💛 - what are their favorite activites to do together?

they study together a Lot. between enjolras' progression through law school and combeferre going into his philosophy phd, they are constantly studying, and they're both terrible at taking breaks and looking after themselves, but they're great at making the other take breaks and look after themselves, so they have a good little system together. it's this extra time spent together that makes them realise maybe they don't feel this same kind of pull, that they do for their other friends.

💐 - what’s their favorite “domestic bliss” moment? do they cook/clean together? do they like to go out shopping together?

it's their evenings in bed together. enjolras always has a book or articles he reads before bed and combeferre has a few puzzle books to wind down with, and they cuddle up together and sit quietly for a good hour before they're both ready to turn in for the night. if one of them is too tired for that, the other makes a very good pillow to fall asleep on. enjolras has found some very interesting positions to both read and pillow himself on combeferre's stomach.

🩶 - which one apologizes first? how do they apologize?

enjolras, especially at the start. combeferre often needs to take some time to sit and process things before he's ready to talk, and enjolras knows that, from their literal decades of friendship, but he gets really anxious when they start dating and he always comes back to combeferre to apologise. he's very shy and apologetic, he buys flowers, he's genuinely scared he's ruined everything the first few times. he almost always goes to courfeyrac for advice, who always tells him "give him space, he'll come to you when he's ready" and enjolras almost always ignores that.

when combeferre apologises, he's quietly anxious. he doesn't have the same rejection anxiety that enjolras does but he still has anxiety, and again he goes to courfeyrac for advice - and tries his best to follow it. once he's got his own thoughts figured out, he tends to find enjolras and apologise and explain in great detail why he's in the wrong and why he's sorry. enjolras appreciates it, but he mostly just wants to hold combeferre and tell him it's forgiven.

once they're more established in their relationship, they both try to accommodate the other - combeferre will apologise and tell enjolras he needs space soon after any argument, enjolras will apologise over text and make sure combeferre knows where to find him when he's ready.

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

MY MODERNISATION OF VALJEAN TRAVELLING TO ARRAS purely because it took sooooo long for me to get to a place where i was happy posting it. i was so attached to the concept of modernising that scene but it had literally been on the go since 2020 so i was beginning to give up thinking i'd ever actually get it finished. then i had a burst of supreme productivity one day and suddenly it didn't seem so impossible after all and! voila!

27. What do you listen to while writing?

a mix of stuff really! generally whatever song/album/artist i'm obsessed with at the time. which means usually abba. if it's a longer fic/bigger project i'll create a playlist (the future's owned by you and me had it's own playlist for example) but i haven't done that for anything i've written this year. sometimes i'll listen to my grantaire playlist when writing roads (aka the exr car share fic). i think i might've listened to my enjolras playlist when writing a new day dawning.

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

i really really really like the opening paragraphs of a new day dawning. i don't know why, you know sometimes you just write something and are immediately happy with it? it was one of those!

also no spoilers but the ending of obstacles (the valjean travelling to arras fic) because the mental picture it paints still makes me giggle when i think about it.

ExR Broadway AU ideas

I was thinking back on a brainrot I had with @pumpkinspice-prouvaire a while ago and I thought I might as well polish it a little and publish it. This comes from a comment while watching Aaron Tveit's Miscast "Mein Heirr" performance.

It all starts when a conservative theatre journalist makes an article about the decline of Broadway, and he uses Enjolras (who mostly plays intense revolutionaries and other serious dramatic parts) as an example of a "good" gay performer who doesn't go around "prancing in heels and glitter".

This prompts Enjolras to go to his good friend and Broadway director Courfeyrac and ask him for his gayest and most slutty role. Courf, who has been dying to put Enjolras in eye-candy outfits for years, immediately casts him as Sally Bowles on a Miscast-type performance.

The problem is that... there is a reason Enjolras usually plays serious revolutionaries. He doesn't have a single loose bone in his body. He can get through the moves (he's a professional, he's a trained dancer), but he looks serious and stiff no matter what he does.

In a desperate attempt, Courf orders him to put on his costume and walk around in character until he feels comfortable in it.

Meanwhile, in a café near the theatre, Grantaire is an underpayed barista and failing art school student. He has been ranting to his friends about the broody angel in disguise who comes every day for his coffee for months.

... And then one day, black turtleneck angel comes in in a sheer top and lace-up pants and high heels???? And sprawls all over his counter and flirts with him?????

No, Enjolras is not suddenly smooth. It takes him a while to get there, but Grantaire doesn't notice. He's too busy trying to not scald his fingers with the coffee machine when Enjolras puts a heeled foot on a chair to stretch as he waits for his order.

Joly and Bossuet get a lot of panicked texts for a while. Grantaire has multiple theories getting progressively more unhinged, from evil twins to alien abduction. After a while they can't get over the curiosity and go to the café to try and see the mysterious man.

Joly (is working on an acting degree from R's school): ...That's Louis Enjolras, isn't he. Bossuet (plays the bassoon with goal to work on Broadway): That is absolutely Louis Enjolras. I think he's playing in Miscast next month. He's probably preparing for a role. Should we tell R? Joly: Are you kidding?? This is hilarious, I want to see how long it takes for him to figure it out.

Grantaire emphatically does not figure it out. This man has worked next to a bunch of Broadway venues for years and not learned anything about it, and he's not going to start now (yes, Joly, Broadway is a perfectly valid art form, he's just not interested in it, okay??).

At the end, Joly and Bossuet get tickets for Miscast and drag Grantaire, kicking and screaming, to go watch it with them. He's pouting in his seat, when suddenly they bring a chair to the stage, music starts and a familiar face (and outfit) comes on stage and starts singing.

The "YOU FUCKERS" almost gets them thrown out of the theatre.

Backlit by the cave’s entrance, his face is mostly in shadow, but Grantaire can just make out the white of his teeth, lips set in a terrible smile. Even in the dark, his eyes glint with mirth. It’s an expression of pure, cruel glee. It twists his beloved face into something strange and chilling and wrong. Grantaire doesn’t even have time to process, frozen for one second, one precious second that leaves Enjolras enough time to pull his leg back and drive it into Grantaire’s stomach. Grantaire wheezes, the wind whooshing out of him. His head spins, and his lungs burn, and his stomach aches, but through the haze of sudden pain and confusion, he manages one coherent thought: Enjolras is capable of many, many things, but hurting his friends like this simply isn’t one of them. Grantaire is perhaps not his favorite person sometimes, but—he wouldn’t. Not even when they’ve fought. Enjolras wouldn’t. Which means it isn’t him. It can’t be. This isn’t Enjolras.

Instead of working on the actual fic, I'm going to be sharing headcanons on my canon era Enjsette siblings au. I would probably mention some parts of it in the fic(s) I'll be sharing but if they never see the light of day, here are some of them! Shoutout to @pumpkinspice-prouvaire for inspiring this post <3

Fantine absolutely adored getting matching EVERYTHING for her kids: that goes for their names (Eugène and Euphrasie), their outfits, and even their hairstyles. She likes to match her hairstyles with them as well :')

Speaking of hair, since Enjolras has the same hair as her, she lets it grow out so that she can comb and style it. He may be 3 years old but he sure has a ton of hair

When they get placed with the Thenardiers, just as how Mme. Thenardier was Cosette's main tormentor, M. Thenardier would be Enjolras'

Other than the canonical heavy labour Cosette had to do, Enjolras would be sent out to pickpocket from the inn's customers and the rest of the town's inhabitants as well

Whenever Enjolras got caught, Thenardier would put on a big act and punish him in front of whoever was the victim ("My sincerest apologies, good monsieur/madame! He must have gotten his nastiness from his good-for-nothing mother.") before taking him away and just punishing him once more for getting caught

(And I'm not saying this is where Enj would get his immensely deep-rooted sense of injustice from but im NOT not saying that either :))

Cosette and Enjolras would try to take the brunt of the punishments for each other but that just became getting twice the punishment. Eventually, they learnt to just rely and comfort each other afterwards

When Valjean comes to find them, he buys Catherine for Cosette and a toy soldier for Enjolras. He named him Jacques.

Enjolras took longer than Cosette to warm up to Valjean (M. Thenardier was his tormentor after all, so his trust in male authority figures was already low), but eventually grew to trust him once his sister did

Enjolras especially loved hearing Valjean read to him. Valjean read the usual children's books and fairytales but when Enjolras began begging for more, he just gave up and started reading anything he could get his hands on: history, philosophy, etc. (which is why Enjolras turned out Like That)

When they move to the convent, while Cosette went to school, Enjolras stayed in the hut and continued being taught by Valjean (and Fauchelevent!) While Cosette was intended to become a nun, Enjolras was to take over as the convent gardener

Cosette would run up to the hut and chat with Enjolras whenever it was playtime- they would exchange whatever they had learnt during the day

Slowly, Enjolras got his hands on more and more radical books, teaching himself about the current political climate of France and devoting all his time to reading and (attempting to) write his own essays

Eventually, when the family left the convent, it was partially to allow Enjolras to pursue his new-found interest in politics as well as the canonical reason of letting Cosette explore society.

Due to their difference in interests, Enjolras and Cosette grew apart, though all 3 family members clearly still cared for one another deeply

Understanding the dangers of dabbling in politics, he decided to go by a moniker in order to keep his private family away from his public affairs. Thus, Enjolras was born.

This is where my fics begin to pick up from so I guess no more spoilers (??) Hope this made some bit of sense or at the very least, the drawings were enjoyable! :D

last book: the last book I read for fun was my periodic reread of Fahrenheit 451. the last book I read at all (not counting skimming the Brick) is an only-moderately-water-damaged atlas du ciel, which is a French atlas of the 88 modern constellations that was weeded from the library I work at.

last movie: I re-watched Enchanted (2007) on the flight home to Florida! One of the most enjoyable movies of all time.

last tv show: Castle... because I'm always re-watching Castle in some capacity...

sweet/spicy/savory: savory all the way!

relationship status: very happy boyfriend of @internetserviceprovider and very happy boyfriend-in-law of @space-ace-beleren (hey guys, love you guys)

current obsession: I'm back on a pretty hardcore Les Mis kick (thank heavens tbh) but I've been watching Doctor Who with @shamedumpster and Hoo Boy. Oh Man.

looking forward to: small-scale: fresh Cuban bread tomorrow, shopping for gifts for the various people I love, decorating for Christmas with my cat (it's her favorite holiday), and being able to bake sourdough more regularly once I move out. large-scale: finishing my degree, finding a job, and reaching some sort of long-term medical stasis.

sci-fi and dystopia are my favourites right now! i didnt read anywhere near as much as i meant to when i was doing my degree so im catching up now

6 - do you track the books you read? if so, how?

i do! i track them in my bullet journal and also my sister made me a huge, extensive, very fun spreadsheet system for my reading list to check things off and keep track of how much im reading

9 - do you have a favorite author?

as a kid it was always michael morpurgo, and now im working my way through jeanette winterson's books and she is quickly becoming my favourite

10 - what book are you reading right now?

i was part-way through tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow by gabrielle zevin when someone else at the library requested it 😔 so while i wait for that to come back im going to start a re-read of les mis! ive had wilbours translation on my bookshelf to read for over a year so it's about time
