Today while shopping at the Antique Center of La Crosse and I found a little piece of Florida history and had to take it home. Kinda shocked at the fact I found this all the way in Wisconsin.
The Parliament House Resort in Orlando, Florida, traces its roots to a modest lakeside motor inn inaugurated on February 11, 1962, at 410 North Orange Blossom Trail. Initially, boasting 120 rooms and a burgeoning reputation as a premier event venue, it quickly gained traction under the management of Ned Eddy, Jr., and his brother, James (Jimmy) Eddy. Despite early success, by 1975, the property faced financial turmoil, prompting its acquisition by Bill Miller and Michael Hodge for $648,000. Their stewardship heralded a transformative era, culminating in the emergence of the Parliament House Resort as a celebrated LGBTQ+ destination, renowned for its vibrant nightlife and inclusive atmosphere.
Since its rebirth, the Parliament House has served as a cornerstone of Orlando’s LGBTQ+ community, offering a sanctuary for self-expression and camaraderie. Evolving from a modest motor inn to a sprawling entertainment complex, it not only provided a platform for cultural events but also fostered a sense of unity and pride within the LGBTQ+ community. Over the years P-house featured such acts as Charo, Macy Gray, Jennifer Holiday, Chaka Khan, Eartha Kitt, Cyndi Lauper, RuPaul, Salt-N-Pepa , The Weather Girls, and even Gloria Gaynor. Personally, I remember sitting and enjoying drag shows hosted by Darcel Stevens and the Footlight Players, and dancing to music played by DJ Brianna Lee. Despite its closure in 2020, the Parliament House’s legacy endures as a reflection of its pivotal role in shaping LGBTQ+ rights and culture, leaving an indelible mark on Orlando’s vibrant social fabric.

White House Press Secretary Responds to Florida Gun Law
It is shameful that so soon after another tragic school shooting, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law a permitless concealed carry bill behind closed doors, which eliminates the need to get a license to carry a concealed weapon. This is the opposite of commonsense gun safety. The people of Florida — who have paid a steep price for state and Congressional inaction on guns from Parkland to Pulse Nightclub to Pine Hills — deserve better. President Biden has been clear: too many lives are being ripped apart by gun violence. The President continues to call on Congress to ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines, require safe storage of firearms, eliminate gun manufacturers’ immunity from liability, and require background checks for all gun sales, and for state officials to take action at the state level. Orlando Pulse
Ronald Hopper of the F.B.I's office in Tampa, Fla., appealed on Monday for patience in the Orlando investigation
My friends and I were at #purseorlando #pulsenightclub #pulse for this #massshooting….
Me and all my friends were ok, after breaking through a barricaded wall, in complete darkness…
With people crowded and crawling for their lives…
We managed to tear down a wall and escape through the back of the club….
There was more then 40 shots fired... lam safe, and all of my friends are safe…
I stayed behind to help gunshot victims and carry bodies to nearby trucks to take to ambulances…
For some reason, my instinct was to help those injured around me... I cannot believe we tore a wall down…
And were able to get out of a complete tragedy.
I am so thankful to be ok, and i wish nothing but peace of mind to those affected by this incident….
As it stands…
The swat team has the building completely surrounded…
People are still trapped inside in what seems like a hostage situation…
Words cant describe what i feel inside…
The fear…
The adrenaline…
The reality of the fact that people lost their lives today a few feet away from me…
Please send your energy and compassion towards the people in this devastating tragedv...

Pulse Remembrance Day: Today, we remember and honor the 49 lives lost at the @pulseorlando mass shooting on June 12, 2016. Pulse served as a refuge for communities that are not safe at home, not safe at work, not safe in the streets, and not safe from police brutality. For many, Pulse once stood as a space where LGBTQ+ communities could experience moments of joy that are often stolen under systems of oppression. Our communities suffered a painful loss, but we will continue our fight for intersectional and inclusive justice and equality #saytheirnames Rest in power. #pulsenightclub #pulseorlando https://www.instagram.com/p/CBVr9Puhp0z/?igshid=qulx7esm8eck

Today is the anniversary of Pulse, ya'll. Here in Orlando we celebrate and remember the lives of the ones we lost. 49 angels.
This year feels particularly personal as I get ready to come out to my dad, and then to everyone else. Pulse changed so many of my perspectives. I am not the same person that I was ten years ago, and I am very grateful for it.
49 beautiful people who were living their lives, open and honest. I want to be the same.

Please join me in honoring the 49 people killed in the #PulseNightclub shooting four years ago. My old friend Javier Jorge-Reyes was killed that night. He was a kind and generous person who lived life to its fullest. I enjoyed dancing the night away with Javier on several occasions. We hadn’t seen each other in many years, but he touched my life and I’ll always remember him. #remember #pulseorlando #orlando #orlandostrong #gaypride #lgbtq #lgbt #prayers #lgbtqpride (at onePULSE Foundation) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBVX8MTpXqo/?igshid=15tkc345dhq7z

I made this image right after the horrific events at #PulseNightclub after my grief turned into anger. I was angry because it took the death of 49 souls for our black and brown faces to be plastered all over the news. It took the death of someone's lover, sister, brother, friend, husband and more for the world to look at us in the face and feel something for our community. I still feel something every time I step into a dancefloor and I hear a glass break or a fight break out. But I will be damned if our spaces become spaces that I fear. My heart goes out to the family and friends of those 49 lives and to the survivors that must deal with this every single day of their lives. #PulseShooting #PulseSurvivors #PrideMonth https://www.instagram.com/p/BynZC_NFod3/?igshid=9vmpe590db58

"DIVERSITY MURAL"
by Cherie Bosela and Jennifer Kuhns
In June, 2016 Pulse Nightclub in Orlando was hosting a "Latin Night" when the deadliest mass shooting by an individual was perpetrated (tragically, surpassed multiple times since), killing 49 and injuring 53. In early 2018, across the nation, in Shelton, Washington, Jennifer Kuhns worked with her high school students to create the first Diversity Mural, and in Orlando she and @LunaMosaicArts owner Cherie Bosela decided to create a companion piece in direct response to the Pulse tragedy. More than 1,000 hearts were collected by Bosela from people all over the world and the two mosaic artists have created this message of solidarity with the LGBTQIA community on the side of Lamp Shade Fair on N. Mills Ave. @cheriebosela/ @jenn.kuhns/
