🖤💛 “THIRD OR NOTHING!!!” 💛🖤
Finally another full out for me to post lmao. This piece is my thank you and love letter to my first show of my current drama season: PUFFS! A hilarious Harry Potter Parody, this show has grown to be one of my all time favorite comedies now. The plot is entertaining, the characters lovable, and the final message a strong one. I’m going to miss this play so very much and will forever be grateful for my chance to play Megan Jones with this amazing cast. I hope this silly thing can help portray all the love I have for this show and our cast that I cannot put into words. Thank you, Puffs, for everything.
Also, because I have to say this now, DO NOT REPOST MY STUFF.

i love when tragedies are like “the love was there. it didnt change anything. it didnt save anyone. there were just too many forces against it. but it still matters that the love was there”
-Starpeace, tumblr
This isn't my normal type of post, but I just closed my high school's production of 'Puffs, Or: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic', and I can't stop thinking about it. This show broke me and put me back together and I don't know what to fucking do about it.
I played the role of Megan Jones, and she taught me how to be a person again. Skip straight to the next heading if you just want to know what the hell I'm talking about, otherwise, here's my Love Letter to Puffs: you deserve the world and the world doesn't deserve you, but every person reading this deserves to see this show at least once in their life.
First of all, this show is hilarious. Like, 'laugh until your stomach hurts and you can't breath and you start coughing up your sanity' hilarious. Your abs will hurt after seeing this show and your tear ducts will struggle to keep up with demand. But, despite that, or maybe because of that, it is also heartbreaking. Maybe the best kind, I think. The kind that rips your heart into pieces but then sews it back together, tells you that you have to carry on, but somehow that's worse, because hope hurts more than anything else.
And to see Puffs is one thing, but to be in it?
I don't know what to do or how to feel. For the rest of my life I will have carry this grief nestled next to my soul. The characters have the faces of people I know, and goddamn that makes it so hard to think about but just as hard not to.
I am changed, for this show. I am a different person at the other end of this nine week love-stained, obsessive hell. It found me when I was in a very vulnerable place, only halfway to healing, and picked me up and straight up told me to my Megan's face that I "shouldn't have to be alone"! Told me safety is love and loneliness is a lie we tell ourselves when we hate ourselves too much to see reason. That justice is the only pursuit that brings both self-love and heartache.
Live theatre is a powerful, powerful thing and yes, a professional recording of Puffs is available on Amazon Video and some pretty good bootlegs are up on YouTube, but if this show is open anywhere near you at a local high school, college, or community theatre, then I'm begging you to go see it in person. High school-age actors are uniquely suited to this show so don't let that make you wary!
If anyone, ever, wants to talk about Puffs, I'm more than available. PM me, ask me, tag me in your post. I don't care if you're seeing this post 2 months or 2 years or 10 years from now, if I am still on this hellsite, I will respond.
Go see Puffs. If everyone on this planet did, I think the world would be just a slightly better place.
Okay, hold on, what's Puffs?
Puffs tells us the story of a certain badger-aligned house during the seven years a certain orphan boy wizard attends a certain school of magic, plus ✨it was the 90's✨. If you can't tell, Puffs is technically a Harry Potter parody, and it very intentionally gives JKR no money and is not licensed with Warner Bros. Maybe that's a small part of why it spoke to me so much, because in the simplest terms: Puffs won custody of me in the great JKR/Fandom divorce. I really felt betrayed by JKR's transphobia and treatment of representation issues and this show was a bandaid and a kiss better for my aching, eleven year-old heart.
The story follows the Puff Wayne Hopkins, a young British orphan who was raised by his uncle in New Mexico. Wayne is the nerdiest, 90's-est kid you've ever met and well, as a fan of Star Wars and Dungeons & Dragons and Lord of the Rings, when he gets his school letter he gets this idea in his head that his life is about to become as awesome as that of the average fantasy protagonist. That he's gonna be a hero! Of course, he isn't. That's Harry. It's Harry at every single turn and Wayne and his friends are constantly being screwed over as unmentioned side characters in Harry's world-shattering and school-wrecking life, not to mention that the Puffs are the laughingstock of the school anyway, constantly failing classes and being bullied by the Snakes.
The Puffs work hard to become better but it rarely turns out. I mean, just look at Cedric, who plays a huge role in mentoring Wayne and his classmates the first act. Yikes. As the Puffs grow into their teen-hood it even gets a little spicy (in the hilariously awkward, teenage way), and eventually, they each come to understand that Puffs matter, Puffs are the best, in fact, Puffs are the "Mighty Ducks of wizards. No. The Mighty Ducks 2 of Wizards!"

sometimes I think about how I wish I had more information on the characters I got cast in plays. Because I participated in a production of puffs and was multi cast (like most everyone else), I personally was playing 6 different roles.
One was Sally Anne and the other was Myrtle. Sally Anne has a scene where she and Wayne kiss, I didn't find this out until we were doing practice. Luckily they changed the scene a bit, but I was still uncomfortable. Sally Anne then drags him off stage, to presumably have sex. Which you know, was kinda uncomfortable, especially since the person playing wayne was/is 4 years older then me.
And then Myrtle, she only had one scene. Thank the gods but it was so eugh. Especially since the person who played Cedric would sometimes get really close to me and repeat one of my lines, which was: Myrtle and Cedric, cedric and Myrtle, Cedric and Myrtle.
And the person playing him was/is 2 years older then me. I mostly tried to ignore him whenever he did that.
But I usually felt somewhat uncomfortable around him when he did that and was mostly never alone with him backstage. Typically I had 1 or 2 people with me who I felt safe around. So that was a plus.

boutta be a junior in high school when school starts up, and since im a theatre kid, im ranking the roles i played for my first half of my high school drama career, just for funsies :)
#6: Peaseblossom -- "A Midsummer Nights Dream"
My first ever high school play! This was the fall play for my freshman year
Kinda boring, I was one of the fairies for the fairy queen Titania, but i really didn't do much. I had fun feeding Nick Bottom peas tho
#5: Fauchelevent -- "Les Miserables"
This was the spring musical I did for my sophomore year
I played an old man who got run over by a cart full of acid and had one line. I think its a significant improvement from being a random ass fairy :)
#4: Flight Attendant Ancestor -- "The Addams Family Musical"
My first high school musical! The spring musical for my freshman year
I did a lot more as this character than get run over by a cart full of acid despite still being ensemble, and Addams is just a much more entertaining show than Les Mis LMAO
#3: Lesgles -- "Les Miserables"
Another role i played in that same Les Mis show lol
Being a student was epic :)) i got to have a gun and i got to die, and i also got to be very silly with the student gang, had a lot of fun as him hehe
#2: Mary (Green) -- "Fearful Symmetry"
The one act we did for our ITS show my sophomore year
There were multiple Mary's, 5 in total, as well as 5 versions of each of the other characters, so I was one of several Mary's (the green version), and it was a ton of fun despite the role being tricky and having to learn another language for a couple of the lines (cuz each Mary was in a different section of the world - I was in Kazakhstan)
I also ended up getting an award for "outstanding actor" when we performed at the ITS festival, which was pretty cool i think :]
#1: The Narrator -- "Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic"
The fall play of my sophomore year, and my first time playing a lead B)
THE NARRATOR IS SUCH AN EPIC CHARACTER MAN they were so fun to play. Normally i hate being a narrator but i got a chance to watch the show and not interact with the cast's drama and also make jokes that would make the audience chuckle. This was my peak, it goes downhill from here
I love this show and i will forever have warm memories whenever i think abt it
Cant wait for my junior years shows. Woo

Tumblr media
REVIEW: In his play "Witches!? In Salem!?" playwright Matt Cox presents Satan's perspective on the 1962 events in Salem, Massachusetts, and the subsequent trials, arguing that this was one historical event in which he had no involvement or even presence. Cox, the writer behind the long-running Off-Broadway comedy "Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic," brings his irreverent and sharp wit to the Salem Witch Trials for an evening of theater that is both hilarious and thought-provoking.
Cox's play features eleven main characters, with the cast serving in supplementary roles for specific scenes. He constructs the satire from a cacophony of selfish motivations and desires exhibited by the characters. Among them is a contemporary character introduced by Satan- an eighth-grade student named Jenny Ann Bishop. A straight-A student, Jenny Ann boldly declares to the audience, "I'd sell my soul if I could lecture a captive audience on my favorite school subject: U.S. HISTORY." Throughout the play, she appears, providing commentary on the unfolding events.
The satire and irony are perfectly paced, while the character motivations and arcs are reminiscent of a less vulgar "South Park" story. The characters stand out as caricatures, offering a refreshing and engaging experience that avoids clichés.
In the play, there's a compelling scene where Bridgert Bishop travels through time, reflecting on past and present events. As she enters a Walgreens, she remarks on the irony of being murdered for something that is now celebrated everywhere she goes. She expresses a sense that her words are part of a comedy about her tragedy and expresses hope that the real world has progressed since the events of 1692. This scene highlights the enduring relevance of historical events and raises questions about how far society has truly come.
As the story reaches its climax, a chilling twist unfolds. Satan emerges, presenting his alternate version of events, creating a hauntingly captivating conclusion. The play leaves a resonant impact, adding a lingering crescendo, leaving the audience in awe of the unexpected turn of events.
Tumblr media
The production values of the play were impressive, especially considering its modest budget and off-off-Broadway status. The puritan costumes were simple, enhanced by well-designed cardboard pilgrim hats. The Bloodkraven costumes were ironically fashionable, off-the-rack iconic pieces that added a touch of color to the otherwise puritan garb.
Most of the set and props were cleverly designed using cardboard, except for a few key elements such as the history book, gavel, church benches, and cauldron. Even the stage design, except for the quilt-like curtain, had a DIY feel that was both fun and effective, allowing for quick scene changes.
The lighting design, music, and sound effects were also impressive and added to the overall atmosphere of the play.
Tumblr media
"Witches!? In Salem?!" features a truly brilliant cast, including playwright Matt Cox himself. The production boasts a talented ensemble of actors, many of whom are alumni of Cox's off-Broadway hit "Puffs." It would be unfair to single out individual performances, as the entire cast is outstanding. However, Aaron Parker Fouhey, Jessica Mosher, Andy Miller, Jessie Cannizzaro, and A.J. Ditty deserves special mention for their hilarious portrayals and their ability to navigate the show's demanding physical comedy and set changes. The ten-minute intermission is well-deserved, as the cast puts in a lot of effort during the show's two acts. Having seen "Puffs," I believe that Cox has assembled his dream cast for "Witches!? In Salem?!" These actors were undoubtedly aware of the show's demands and were up to the challenge.
In Matt Cox's uproarious comedy titled "Witches!? In Salem?!", the infamous events of the Salem Witch trials are hilariously reimagined. The talented cast, like a well-oiled Swiss watch, delivers a marvelously synchronized and dynamic performance, creating a madcap comedy brimming with laughter and satire, and a couple of introspective moments. A memorable theatrical experience not to be missed.
Witches!? In Salem?! will be presented at 8:30pm on Sat 3/16, Tues 3/19, Fri 3/22, Sat 3/23, Tues 3/26, Thurs 3/28, Fri 3/29 and Sat 3/30 with 4:00 pm matinees on Sun 3/17 and Sat 3/23 at HERE, 145 Sixth Ave, New York, NY 10013. Tickets are available at www.witchesinsalem.com.
