Larry Gonzalez: Night Visions

A professional cinematographer and a photographer, Larry Gonzalez understands the language of both mediums, blending them to create nocturnal imagery pregnant with narrative potential. The people in his images become characters whose story seems to be fleetingly suspended, a moment of contemplation or indecision, of apprehension or regret. One can feel the listless undercurrent, the sultry night air inducing a melancholy torpor spiked with a shot of latent danger… like the build-up before a storm. His images do not simply harness atmosphere as context but as the material of storytelling itself.

Today is the day #CrockerKingsley #CrockerKingsely2019 opens in Roseville. Our work is on display Jan 12-Feb 23🌹 This is my hometown gallery debut ! Growing up in #Sacramento , Crocker Art was our #art source. I am honored to show this photograph from a 2017 trip to Puerto Rico called “Gato En El Portal Verde”, among the work of many talented #artists . Visit for the opening reception Jan 19 5-8pm and I will be there to meet, greet and tell you about my piece. 📷🎞 Every two years the Kingsley Art Club sponsors the Crocker-Kingsley Competition to choose the best of emerging and established California's artists. David Pagel of Los Angeles is the Juror for this 2019 Crocker-Kingsley Competition. Pagel is an art critic who writes regularly for the Los Angeles Times. From the over 1900 entries, Pagel has selected 80 finalists whose works will be exhibited in the gallery of Blue Line Arts (until Feb 23) and from these, has selected the five winners of the Crocker-Kingsley Prizes. New this year will be a prize for People’s Choice !
