Happy new year 2023 from Tonari!
Year of the Rabbit is upon us in 2023 and I'm just gonna drop some fun meta in accordance to this image.
Because I can.
Can't forget that Saitama did some bugs bunny stuff before.
What he did on Moon of I.O is basically bending reality like he's a cartoon character. So it kinda fits with the rabbit and the moon mythos lol.
But I'm also interested about all the symbolism of the rabbit and the moon and the chinese zodiac.
In the Buddhist Jataka tales,[4] Tale 316 relates that a monkey, an otter, a jackal, and a rabbit resolved to practice charity on the day of the full moon (Uposatha), believing a demonstration of great virtue would earn a great reward. When an old man begged for food from them, the monkey gathered fruits from the trees and the otter collected fish, while the jackal found a lizard and a pot of milk-curd. Knowing only how to gather grass, the rabbit instead offered its own body by throwing itself into a fire the man had prepared. However, the rabbit was not burnt and the old man revealed that he was Śakra. Touched by the rabbit's virtue, he drew the likeness of the rabbit on the Moon for all to see. It is said the lunar image is still draped in the smoke that rose when the rabbit cast itself into the fire. The rabbit is believed to be a Bodhisattva. Han Dynasty poets call the hare on the Moon the "Jade Hare" (玉兔) or the "Gold Hare" (金兔), and these phrases were used often, in place of the word for the Moon. A famous poet of Tang China, Li Bai, relates how "The rabbit in the moon pounds the medicine in vain" in his poem, "The Old Dust".
When Westerners gaze at the 月亮 (yuèliang; moon), they may jokingly say that the moon is made out of cheese or that they see the Man in the Moon. When a Chinese person looks at the moon, however, they most certainly will see the Jade Rabbit (玉兔 Yùtù) standing under a cassia tree holding a precious elixir. Like the Chinese zodiac itself, the legend of the Jade Rabbit has many different origin stories. One of the most common stories in China begins with the Jade Emperor disguising himself as a beggar. Once disguised, he embarks on a journey to find a worthy animal to help him prepare the elixir of life. In this tale, the Rabbit willingly attempts to sacrifice himself as food for the beggar by jumping into a fire. However, the Rabbit is saved by the Jade Emperor, who then carries the Rabbit to the moon where he helps create the elixir of life. Those looking for the Jade Rabbit will find his outline on the moon with his pestle and mortar, mixing the divine elixir to this day. The concept of the Chinese zodiac has spread to other Asian countries, but other cultures have slightly different interpretations regarding the Jade Rabbit. In Japan, the Old Man of the Moon brings the Rabbit back to the moon to live with him because of the Rabbit’s great kindness. According to this myth, the image seen on the surface of the moon is of a rabbit pounding out mochi rice cakes, not the elixir of life.
About this elixir of life...I've thought about references to elixir of immortality before.
The elixir of life, also known as elixir of immortality, is a potion that supposedly grants the drinker eternal life and/or eternal youth. This elixir was also said to cure all diseases. Alchemists in various ages and cultures sought the means of formulating the elixir. In the 8th century AD Man'yōshū, 'waters of rejuvenation' (変若水, ochimizu) are said to be in the possession of the moon god Tsukuyomi. Similarities have been noted with a folktale from the Ryukyu Islands, in which the moon god decides to give man the water of life (Miyako: sïlimizï), and serpents the water of death (sïnimizï). However, the person entrusted with carrying the pails down to Earth gets tired and takes a break, and a serpent bathes in the water of life, rendering it unusable. This is said to be why serpents can rejuvenate themselves each year by shedding their skin while men are doomed to die.
I am distinctly reminded of the part where Sage centipede's carcass drops down on top of heroes while it bathes in ocean water. Heroes were definitely kind of doomed to just perish here, but Saitama parking a large ship avoided the disaster. Then pig god casually eating all the heroes allowed them to ultimately survive. Sage centipede and Elder centipede were notorious for being practically immortal because they just regenerated and shed their skin, so Garou had to destroy it's heart.
Ergo, removing the heart removes the source of lifeblood, so might be one to keep in mind.
I can't forget how Pig god ate Evil Natural Water and how human body consists of mostly water and what it might entail cuz he ate evil natural water remnants.
Can't forget how Psykos also made Evil Natural Water and she has serpent motifs.
So if divine power is "elixir of immortality" and evil natural water is a construct of what may be just divine power, water and evil intent...checks out.
Oh and OPM God being in possession of elixir of life? Lifeblood? Yeah. Also checks out because the one below is depicted with little more than blood circulatory system.
Makes you wonder why a samurai dude, I forget the name, who got cleaved in half somehow didn't die. And tank top master got brutally mangled and somehow...survived and is not worse for the wear. And Air got his neck pierced and his spine and idk, he's gonna be ok too right?
Divine power = elixir of life sounds appropriate.
Rabbit personality traits Let’s start with the impact of being born in the Year of the Rabbit on personality. Rabbit people are said to live life free from constraints and are in constant pursuit of their ideas. Because of their weak wills, however, they have difficulty achieving great things. In addition, Rabbits are sometimes too guarded and delicate when managing human affairs and personal matters. While they tend to be tenacious and ambitious, these characteristics may also lead to jealousy when they don’t get their way. Those born under the sign of the rabbit do not like to argue, preferring peace and quiet. They are good listeners, excellent negotiators and tend to work well on a team. They can be artistic and creative but also have a strong desire to avoid stressful and risky situations. They can also be pessimistic and insecure and therefore are hesitant to make quick changes.
Sounds like an interesting year might be ahead of Saitama.
And finally, an aztec mythos reference, because OPM God's temple is basically an aztec temple.
According to an Aztec legend, the god Quetzalcoatl, then living on Earth as a human, started on a journey and, after walking for a long time, became hungry and tired. With no food or water around, he thought he would die. Then a rabbit grazing nearby offered herself as food to save his life. Quetzalcoatl, moved by the rabbit's noble offering, elevated her to the Moon, then lowered her back to Earth and told her, "You may be just a rabbit, but everyone will remember you; there is your image in light, for all people and for all times."
"Quetzalcoatl, in its literal sense, means 'serpent of precious feathers', but in the allegorical sense, 'wisest of men'."[6] Among the Aztecs, whose beliefs are the best-documented in the historical sources, Quetzalcoatl was related to gods of the wind, of the planet Venus, of the dawn, of merchants and of arts, crafts and knowledge. He was also the patron god of the Aztec priesthood, of learning and knowledge. Quetzalcoatl, the Aztec god of the sun and wind, air, and learning, wears around his neck the "wind breastplate" ehēcacōzcatl, "the spirally voluted wind jewel" made of a conch shell. This talisman was a conch shell cut at the cross-section and was likely worn as a necklace by religious rulers, as such objects have been discovered in burials in archaeological sites throughout Mesoamerica,[8] and potentially symbolized patterns witnessed in hurricanes, dust devils, seashells, and whirlpools, which were elemental forces that had significance in Aztec mythology.
I mean yea, Feathered Serpent basically. Quetzalcoatl reference. And Psykos learned more than she wished for and according to her, became the ultimate being of intelligence.
A very interesting year ahead.
Unlike Tigers though, like last year, Rabbits are prey animals. And many myths talk about Rabbits making some kind of sacrifice and how appropriately we're also dealing with a dude from Tsukuyomi at the same time. Like oh em gee rabbit and the moon mythos oh em gee.

Do you like how ONE and Murata have been handling the esper sisters arc? Personally I'm a big fan atm, I wasn't much of a Tats fan before the MA raid, but now I can't wait until we finally get to see her on panel again.
I like how Tatsumaki can confidently hold her own in the 'protagonist' role, and it's entertaining to watch her solve/confront problems in unorthodox yet brutal ways (with her own signature twist), so I'm enjoying seeing her get the spotlight. The arc is still early to see how it turns out, but this time manga Tatsumaki isn't so pathologically black & white antagonistic - there's layers to her anger that are understandable (she's not someone solely to be feared), so it's going to be tough for Fubuki to convince her otherwise when Tatsumaki's seen all the direct evidence she needs to put her foot down when it comes to (their) safety. :')
#opm#tatsumaki#elcuervoborracho#replies#i enjoyed seeing tatsu hold her own vs psykorochi to come out on top#her confidence and competence are justified vs those who underestimate her#(but saitama is going to be....different :'D)

On Genos asking Saitama if he got stronger...
Initially, I was a bit confused on why Genos is asking Saitama this again. It's already been addressed in the previous arc, and you'd think it's all well and done, but ONE makes a point on bringing it up again, and that Saitama's answer is different.
But that's because he's referring to two different things!
To recap:
A lot of people assume Saitama is talking about his core...
But that I wholeheartedly disagree. Genos asked on whether or not he got stronger. Saitama answered he has. Except Saitama wasn't talking about in terms of power, he's talking about in terms of spirit.
And Genos has! There's a distinct difference between sacrificing your life to taking any chance to blow yourself up just because you're passively suicidal. The story doesn't spell it out for us, but for all of Genos's great penchant to somehow survive despite barely cutting it, he doesn't exactly value his own life and happiness. This is the first time he's been put into a corner with little chance of escaping and deliberately chose not to blow himself up, because he started to not only to value the lives of his comrades, but his own too. And Saitama acknowledges that it's a good thing! That he's not wrong or immoral to feel that way! Because Saitama knows what it's like to be suicidal. Choosing to live another day is a brave feat of strength indeed.
If you're gonna argue Saitama is just being dumb and Genos was being dumb because he was misinterpreting things again because what Saitama actually meant his core got stronger - here's the thing: Saitama has never cared about power. It's always been about character with him.
The only time he'd care about someone's power level is when it's getting absurdly destructive that it may destroy his or other people's property (Psykorochi, Tatsumaki) or when it's obvious it's about to kill or has killed people (Boros's CSRC, Cosmic Garou). He didn't care that Mumen Rider is weaker than DSK, but he cared about his strength of character to protect people against all odds didn't he?
Even then, how the heck would Saitama even judge if Genos's core actually did get stronger? He doesn't have any basis for it. He hasn't seen the enemies Genos fought. He hasn't seen what the core could do. Hell, he hasn't even seen Genos since he has a broken up body during hotpot night to even know what his feats are. All he knew is that Genos is now limbless and that he lost. But that he had enough strength in spirit to hold on and protect Tatsumaki without fully giving into despair that he'd blow he and Tatsumaki up all thanks to King telling him what happened.
This... was a TERRIBLE answer.
So why was it so ass? Because this time, Genos is clearly asking not if he got stronger in spirit but stronger in terms of power.
Saitama is the last person you should be asking these things, since you might as well ask someone who is lightyears away from earth that you changed the engine in your car so now it could go greater distance and last longer on the road, he'd say "sweet!" but he won't ever be able to tell the difference even if you pop your car hood open nor show the number miles you traveled. To him it's all the same: he's too far away to make an accurate judgement.
Heartbreaking thing is, there's a fairly good reason why it's to important to Genos to be acknowledged he'd grown stronger in power and why he pursues power to begin with: it's not just vengeance nor justice for everything he lost, it's also to make sure he never experiences those loss again. Nor for anyone to experience the same things he did. Saitama's casual "dismissal" just affirms Genos's worst insecurities and fear - that he's still the same weak and helpless 15 year old that couldn't save his town nor protect his family, but survived anyway. Genos has achieved the height of power he previously thought impossible, but heartbreakingly he's so in his head he can't or doesn't even acknowledge it. For all he knows, he still doesn't have the power to not just beat enemies, but to protect people.
They really need to have a proper discussion, but ONE is never one for simple and straightforward journeys.

Thinking about the differences between WC and manga Isamu, and wondering if his willingness to collaborate with Sekingar and Sitch in the manga to handle the Neo Heroes situation (as opposed to WC where he went all alone) are related to him having witnessed the S class heroes actually being able to work together during the Psykorochi fight, plus other details about MA arc that duverged from the WC. Hopefully he'll keep that cooperative stance for long enough...
You caught me at a perfect time! I think so. At the beginning of the raid, Isamu was so frustrated with the S-Class that if that'd been the last word, he'd definitely have struck out on his own.
But then he saw with his own eyes that these heroes could cooperate. He saw that they'd look out for each other despite everything. He saw that the guys he excluded, Genos and Bang, showed up anyway out of a sense of dedication. He saw that even officials he'd dismissed as mere suits could step up and be brave. Come to that, even his shitty-ass cantankerous former mentor, Dr Bofoi, showed up, albeit not until after the danger had passed, but then he did save all their lives. Hell, even BLAST showed up!
I think it really drove home for him that it's not necessary for people to be nice, easily understood, or easy to get along with to be thoroughly good and trustworthy. That's an important life lesson -- one too many of us aren't learning.
Consistent in ONE's writings is that the outcomes of actions compound. Good and bad, today's actions prime tomorrow's reactions. The difference between what Isamu is doing in the WC and in the manga is earned trust. The heroes and officials in the manga have earned his trust and respect.
There's a big difference between writing off everyone and wanting to show everyone how things ought to be done.
I wish Isamu and Sekingar the best of luck in what's going to be their most difficult mission ever.
#OPM#meta#Isamu#Sekingar#S-Class#the manga really is taking us interesting directions#the difference between what Isamu is doing here and what he did in the wc makes sense given what his experiences were#I love the chaos theory of ONE's storycraft: prior conditions inform subsequent ones causing divergence despite similar initial conditions

1. how far have you read into the opm manga?
2. which scene(s) would you most want to see in the anime?
3. other than genosai & sonic/mumen who's your fav ships?
!! HalllLLO <3<3<3
All of it! Everything! I read it as soon as it comes out. A new chapter hits and ten minutes later I'm feeding screenshots into Google translate and checking stuff on reverso context so I can understand what they're saying ;;;
Gosh....... I mean the obvious answer is the core touch, right?? And Saitama holding him after. Although because I care about one [1] Boy™, many MANY Genos shots--him doing housework in his dragon body, him absolutely fucking kicking ASS during the big fight with Psykorochi.... If he's on screen I'm going to be happy XD But GOODNESS have there been some great scenes. GOD climbing over the moon, that really scary shot of Evil Natural Water in the ocean, Saitama with Jupiter framing him from behind, the Monster Association being torn out of the ground and seeing how big it was. Also the Pyskorochi dogfight. I am absolutely delighted by that XD I'll be happy with anything though, to be honest ;;; I'm not super-convinced the next season will get all the way to the end of the Garou fight, but I'm easy to please and will be happy with pretty much anything ;;
Batarou!! Batarou (Badd/Garou) is actually my #2, and then it's a bit of a tie between all the rest--Speedal (Mumen/Sonic), Psybuki (Psykos/Fubuki)....Tatsuking? Kingtatsu? King/Tatsumaki. @batneko got me into Amaizomb (Amai/Zombieman) recently too, and then a VERY honorable mention for...Iaiatomic??? Atomic Samurai/Iaian. I'm also fairly into Sonic/Flash XD LISTEN as long as Genos and Saitama are together, I'm really not picky with anything else
Thank you for the ask!! <3<3<3<3
#ask#precious robot baby#egg on legs#honestly my only NOTPs are Sai or Gen with any ladies that aren't just different versions of each other#i don't care too much otherwise#i'm happy if you like them!! but i will just#cheer you on#from very very very very far away ;;;

do you think the mad cyborg is still alive/out there? do you think kuseno was at all involved with the mad cyborg prior to meeting genos? somehow i feel that the parts of the story we dont know about are sinister in some way..
It would be quite underwhelming if the mad cyborg was already done and deal with, seeing how it's the entire reason for Genos begging to be turned cyborg. So I doubt that's going to happen, mad cyborg is definitely alive somehow, somewhere.
We really don't know enough about the mad cyborg or Kuseno's involvement in the business to say for sure, but the old man wants nothing but good for Genos, so despite his past and mad cyborg being both shrouded in mystery, Kuseno is probably not involved in anything untoward regarding the mad cyborg.
There's definitely something sinister afoot, that's for sure and I have wild theories but nothing really concrete. Perhaps Kuseno was involved in the creation of the mad cyborg and he wants to atone or something, perhaps he knew the person who turned mad under cyberneticization, perhaps he knows who's guilty of creating mad cyborg but he doesn't want to say because it would send Genos into another revenge quest...plenty theories that Genos IS the mad cyborg too but just doesn't remember it...
My most wildest theory because of visual Starcraft references in the drive knight and Genos fusion part during Psykorochi fight is that Genos is one part of the mad cyborg that was separated into drive knight, him and some other robotic parts and mad cyborg would've been some kind of hive mind type of cyborg. And when you think about it, Genos would make a terrifying hive mind type of adversary if we went the evil Genos route with the mad cyborg saga.
But unless we're here for the underwhelming conclusion of Genos and his entire cyborg life, Mad cyborg is definitely out there somewhere in some form and not a done deal yet.

I'm not saying that opm Monsters designs are bad, but sometimes I wish they leaned into the eldritch horror type of creature. I get that a lot of them are goofy because they are purposely made to not be taken seriously, but it would be cool to give off the horror vibe of their world (because honestly I don't know how normal people can chill in a place like that)
But wait, just how far into the story are you, anon? Cause monsters in opm range the entire spectrum of seriously absurd to the absurdly serious. And ONE loves his various monster designs (all the way back to his Makai no Ossan days) and the horror genre too for that matter.
We've already gotten plenty of 'punching out Cthulhu' worthy moments - with the whole unsealed/unmasked Orochi sacrifice, ascended Psykorochi, and the ancient abomination type creatures like the Elder + Sage Centipedes with their utterly wrong double faces. Even Evil Natural Water checks out on both the absurd and serious levels when it auto-kills anything that views it with fear/hostile intent, revved up to 11 when it fuses with the ocean. The manga has plenty of monsters made with this stuff and more.
But most of all...doesn't the entire psychological + Cosmic Horror concept of 'god' fit this to a T??? What with the whole gazing into the unknown abyss thing, and how it's some sinister, all-watching unworldly entity with creepily unexplained prophetic + lunar origins, that entraps and mindrapes its victims into becoming corrupted eldritch abominations set onto the extinction of humanity? Like? (There's a good reason why it's such an urgent threat in the story!)
Did not seeing the ancient prometheus-alien-esque crashed remains of some THING lurking on the dark side of the moon invoke your primal urge of 'nopenopewrongwrongwrong' to KILL IT WITH FIRE!?!?!
#opm#anonymous#replies#or maybe i'm not quite understanding the question cause i think the manga already has plenty of monsters like this?

I've already told some of these before to @gofancyninjaworld in asks I've sent them, but I'll make a post abt some stuff I noticed
Slight differences in Tatsumaki's past
We all already know on just how different and far more unreasonable and I daresay straight up abusive Tatsumaki is in the webcomic, but tbh back then, I wasn't sure what caused it.
For a Doylist explanation, ONE needs Tatsumaki to not be so fatally flawed, bc to be fair, if we put wc Tatsumaki in manga Tatsumaki's situation, SHE WOULD FUCKING DIE. Wc Tatsumaki got lucky, but if she herself were to face Psykorochi and the eventual enemies, that sort of mentality would not give Tatsumaki the help she eventually needed. And not surprisingly, most of the problems the heroes faced in the wc MA arc can be traced back to ding ding ding! Tatsumaki!
For a Watsonian explanation... It took me a reread.
Webcomic Blast is... questionable, to say it generously. He's certainly no ideal hero manga Blast is, and that I do think would surely explain its bleaker world. But it certainly also explains why Tatsumaki is so cruel. Her meeting with Blast was brief, and harsh. He saved her life, but there's not an ounce of kindness there.
but the manga -
... They all lead up to the same advise, but god, look at the difference. Not only does Blast makes sure to let Tatsumaki out, Blast guessing Tatsumaki's reasons allowed her to open up to him, reminding her that she was wanted and needed by someone, he also made sure to give her kindly advise on top of the iconic one: Protect your family.
And to Tatsumaki, I do think that makes all the difference.
The two Saitama's costumes are extremely likely to not be the same
Yeah, I admit this also took a reread, so when I came upon this panel, you must understand I was pretty boggled. That would certainly explain why it looks... Like that. It's a genuinely a cheap costume. Heck, I have a feeling Saitama actually just buys another identical looking but different colored costume whenever he damages his. Maybe that's why whenever ONE colors wc Saitama, the suit color differs. This chapter I'm pretty sure was posted AFTER the The Road to Hero OVA, so I do think the change is intentional.
Manga Saitama on the other hand, has insistently kept going wearing the same costume and continuously repairs it whenever it got damaged or dirtied. There's just not doubt Saitama greatly values his costume, and takes pride in it bc it means he's a hero. Even tried entering it in a hero costume contest once and got its leather waxed. In fact he values it so much that he does subtly bend reality around it in that despite tanking attacks that would disintegrate its normal cloth (or literally any matter tbh), it still somehow gets away with dirt at best and a few rips at worst. It's also why when he lost utter faith in his own heroism, is when the suit gets genuinely destroyed except for the glove holding the core. Why though?
Probably because to some extent, the OVAs are canon. ONE did write some of them, or at least approved of them. This panel certainly helps reinforce that, considering it didn't happen in the manga, but in the anime:
That explains why manga Saitama's suit is a bit more quality and actually has good colors - it was made by someone who cared and believed in Saitama.
Webcomic Saitama's mysterious past
I really enjoyed reading the sidechapters in the manga, esp in the earlier chapters. They're pretty charming, some of it was actually a little sad. We get to know a whole lot more abt the characters and their different sides, Saitama especially, a bit of worldbuilding and a moral lesson here and there. Even some additional buildup/insight to some friendships/relationships. It's pretty interesting to see Saitama's past and see how it parallels some characters, Garou being the? Closest? Most poignant? ONE did intend that they're the antis of each other.
What I didn't realize until rereading the webcomic a few times is that we don't know anything about Saitama. At all.
the webcomic to me seems to operate strictly on the rule: if you never read it in the webcomic, it never happened in the webcomic. Opm has no shortage of mysterious characters. Drive Knight is def the one I first would think of. Webcomic Saitama isn't one I'd expect despite being. Well, literally obvious. We don't know anything about him. He hasn't said a word about his past. it's unimportant to the overall story I guess, but still. It's weird. We actually know a bit more abt wc Drive Knight's past than we do wc Saitama's. wc Saitama and manga Saitama may not even have the same backstory except for encountering Crablante and becoming a hero. If it isn't the same... That would certainly explain why they seem to have a different characteristic despite the fundamentals being the same. manga Saitama overall seems to be kinder, and more empathetic. Heck he's even pretty soft to kids, and the manga makes sure to show that over and over. Wc Saitama has never shown if he's nice or even likes kids.
Webcomic Sweet mask never met Blast. Manga Sweet Mask did.
Webcomic SM has this to say abt Blast:
... But manga SM has this:
how this changes SM, we are yet to know. I had to point this out bc I haven't seen anyone point this out, so I had to make sure.
Thnx for reading I have no idea where I am going w this
#opm#one punch man#opm meta#opm webcomic#one punch man webcomic#saitama#tatsumaki#sweet mask#anyways... thots?
