Explained | What is relative humidity and why does it matter on a hot day?
Relative humidity is a easy idea as climate phenomena go – however it has important, far-reaching penalties for a way we should care for ourselves on a hot or moist day. Humidity is the quantity of moisture within the air round us, and there are 3 ways to trace it. The most typical of them is absolute humidity: the mass of water vapour in a given quantity of the air and water vapour combination,…

So I was an engineering major in college. Now if you don’t know, it’s a trade secret that engineers HATE math. They will do anything to avoid doing complicated math, up to and including inventing ridiculous design methods where the math is already worked out for you under a certain set of assumptions. So, you make your assumptions, go to the right chart for those assumptions and take a reading with your given variables. If that sounds easier than doing math, here are some examples of real charts that are regularly used:
And my personal favorite and arch nemesis, the psychrometric chart for HVAC design:
NOW imagine that your entire grade for 1/3 of the exam is just your reading of this chart, only it looks like this
So yeah. This post is a little too accurate 😭
University really is about looking at the worst pdf known to man huh

Willis Haviland Carrier (Angola, November 26, 1876 - New York, October 7, 1950) was an American engineer and inventor, known for being the inventor of the air CONDITIONER and the man who gave his name to the psychrometric chart.
Carrier was born in Angola, New York on the shores of Lake Erie and inherited from childhood the maternal passion for mechanics, including clocks, sewing machines and other household appliances.
He loved mathematics and studied it whenever he could when he wasn't busy making devices he had invented.
In 1895 he received a scholarship from Cornell University graduating in 1901 with the title of mechanical engineer.
At the age of 25 he made his first major invention: a cooling system to control heat and humidity in printing processes which was patented in 1906 (however, the first known air conditioning patent is due to Latimer Lewis patented in 1886) .
Carrier installed the first domestic air conditioning system in 1914 in a house in Minneapolis, Minnesota;
until then air conditioners were used only in American public hospitals.

What is Dehumidification? Cooling & Heating
What is Dehumidification?
The method during which the wet or water vapour or the wetness is aloof from the air keeping its dry bulb (DB) temperature constant is named because the dehumidification process. This method is drawn by a straight vertical line on the psychrometric chart ranging from the initial worth of ratio, extending downwardly and ending at the ultimate worth of the ratio. just like the pure humidification method, in actual follow the pure dehumidification method isn't doable, since the dehumidification is usually in the midst of cooling or heating of the air. Dehumidification method together with cooling or heating is employed in variety of air con applications. allow us to see however these processes square measure obtained and the way they're drawn on the psychrometric chart. This article describes psychrometric processes like dehumidification, cooling and dehumidification, and heating and dehumidification. The article describes however these processes area unit achieved and the way they're portrayed on the psychrometric chart.
Cooling and Dehumidification Process
hod within which the air is cooled reasonably and at constant time the wetness is aloof from it's known as as cooling and dehumidification process. Cooling and dehumidification method is obtained once the air at the given dry bulb and temperature (DP) temperature is cooled below the temperature temperature. Let us perceive the cooling and dehumidification method in additional details. once the air comes in-tuned with the cooling coil that's maintained at the temperature below its temperature temperature, its dB temperature starts reducing. the method of cooling continues and at some purpose it reaches the worth of temperature temperature of the air. At this time the vapor among the air starts obtaining reborn into the condensate particles thanks to that the condensate is made on the surface of the cooling and therefore the wetness content of the air reduces thereby reducing its humidness level. so once the air is cooled below its temperature temperature, there's cooling furthermore as dehumidification of air. The cooling and dehumidification method is most generally used air con application. it's utilized in every type of window, split, prepackaged and central air con systems for manufacturing the comfort conditions within the area to be cooled. within the window and split air conditioners the evaporator coil or cooling coil is maintained at temperature not up to the temperature temperature of the area air or the atmospherical air by the cool refrigerant passing through it. once the area air passes over this coil its dB temperature reduces and at constant time wetness is additionally removed since the air is cooled below its stateless person temperature. The condensate fashioned on the cooling coil is removed out by tiny conduit. within the central air con systems the cooling coil is cooled by the refrigerant or the chilled water. once the area air passes over this coil, it gets cooled and dehumidified. In the general the cooling and dehumidification method is obtained by passing the air over coil through that the cool refrigerant, chilled water or cooled gas is passed. During the cooling and dehumidification method the dry bulb, wet bulb and therefore the temperature temperature of air reduces. Similarly, the smart heat additionally the} heat of transformation of the air also scale back resulting in overall reduction within the heat content of the air. The cooling and dehumidification method is drawn by a straight angular line on the psychrometric chart. the road starts from the given worth of the dB temperature and extends downwardly towards left.
Heating and Dehumidification Process
The method within which the air is heated and at constant time wetness is aloof from it's known as as heating and dehumidification process. This method is obtained by passing the air over sure chemicals like aluminium oxide and molecular sieves. These parts have inherent properties thanks to that they persevere emotional the warmth and even have the tendency to soak up the wetness. These area unit known as because the absorbent chemicals. In actual follow the absorbent parts area unit confined within the massive vessel and also the high air is passed within the vessel through one gap. once the air comes connected with the chemicals the wetness from the air is absorbed and since the chemicals emit heat, the dB temperature of the air will increase. the new and dehumidified air comes out from the vessel through alternative gap within the vessel. The body of water and outlet openings of the vessel area unit controlled by the valve. The heating and humidification method is usually used for reducing the saturation point temperature of air. There area unit variety of automatic valves within the chemical plants that area unit operated by the compressed gas at high. If the saturation point temperature of this air is high, there area unit probabilities of formation of condensate within the valves which may cause their corrosion and conjointly faulty their operation. so it's vital that the air passing to such automatic valves have terribly low saturation point temperature. The heating and dehumidification method by exploitation absorbent materials is employed typically within the air drying units. During the heating and dehumidification method dry bulb temperature of the air will increase whereas its saturation point and wet bulb temperature reduces. On the psychometric chart, this method is depicted by a straight angular line ranging from the given dB temperature conditions and increasing down towards right to the ultimate dB temperature conditions.

Listen, I really think the mechanical engineering field is awesome because it opens you up to so many possibilities but I swear to god, learning the ins and outs of air conditioning is really pushing it. There is nothing cute about having to figure out how to use a psychrometric chart for the 4th time because you can barely remember any of the sensible heat factors:(
#mechanical engineering#i cannot believe i am being pushed to complain about my degree on tumblr#smh i'm tired#psychrometry#really ain't shit#being an undergrad in engineering is so unnecesarily boring

We are having a good old clean up in the studio, and I discovered a marvelous box of environmental monitoring through the ages.
First up we have a lovely yellow whirling/sling hygrometer/psychrometer (all four combinations seem to be valid with varying popularity). It has two thermometers, one with a wet sock over the bulb. You spin it around and use a psychrometric chart to find the relative humidity based on the difference in temperature between the two. It is undoubtedly the most reliable of any of these because it does not need calibration.
The miserable object below it is an elderly Tinytag datalogger, which has a port to connect it to a computer at the top so one assumes it works the same way as the new ones (the nice bumblebee at the bottom right). It monitors and records the temperature and humidity readings every ten minutes or whatever interval you set, then you can download the data to make a graph to frown at.
There is a dial with needles pointing to the temperature and relative humidity. It is likely to determine the humidity based on the tension on a horsehair. The big thermohygrographs work the same way, but I love them more.
Next we have a handheld environmental monitor. It probably measures the relative humidity based on electrical resistance. I still use one of these, although not this particular model. It seems to be a bit confused, since it thinks the highest temperature it was exposed to was 70ºC, and the lowest was -50ºC.
Below, we have the current array of equipment. There are two freestanding monitors (one out of battery), and one nice Tinytag bumblebee as described above. The port is underneath. We also have Hanwell brand dataloggers that transmit their data by radio in real time to a system controlling the heaters, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers.
But it is much less satisfying to swing a Hanwell around like a whirling hygrometer.

Fundamental of The Psychrometric Chart
Fundamental of The Psychrometric Chart When designing an air conditioning system, the temperature and moisture content of the air to be conditioned, and the same properties
Psychrometry is the science dealing with the physical laws of air – water mixtures.
When designing an air conditioning system, the temperature and moisture content of the air to be conditioned, and the same properties of the air needed to produce the desired air conditioning effect, must be known. Once these properties are known, the air conditioning task can be determined. This analysis can…

How Indirect Evaporative System Stands Out from Other Cooling System?
he demand for indirect evaporative cooling systems has grown quite significantly in the last few years. If you are thinking about getting the right cooling system for your workspace then you have certainly landed yourself on the right page. We are here to discuss different types of evaporative coolers and what can be the best match for your property.
What Are Evaporative Coolers?
When it comes to evaporative cooling systems, they are also acknowledged with the name of Desert coolers and are available in different types. So, you need to research well and understand which types of evaporative cooling systems will fit your space. From an indirect evaporative cooling system to direct Evaporative systems, you need to understand the process of their mechanism and then decide which system will help you with the best result.
The evaporative coolers are a perfect option for the places where the humidity is very low and the ambient temperature is high. All these aspects help the system to provide cool air for breathing and comfort working. Higher the temperature ,better the cooling efficiency.
Take a look at the Indirect Direct evaporative Cooling system . It involves tow stages of cooling -Indirect Evporative Cooling and Direct Evaporative Cooling:
FIRST STAGE : INDIRECT COOLING
As depicted below in the schematic diagram, the indirect stage cools the outdoor air without adding moisture. This cooling is typically achieved using one of two methods. In one method a cooling tower may be used to provide naturally cooled water to a cooling coil in the AHU. In another method a plate type heat exchanger may be used in first stage of cooling. The incoming ambient air is cooled using a cross-flow heat exchanger .
It lowers down both Dry bulb temperature and wet bulb temperature of incoming air without use of any compressors.
2ND stage – DIRECT COOLING
The same air stream passes through a water- saturated honey comb pad (evaporative media) where additional cooling takes place. However,This increases the humidity level of air. This evaporative media is designed to be 90 percent efficient.. Since in indirect mode the air stream has already been cooled without adding moisture. Therefore, the air after stage-2 has a lower humidity than it would have using only a direct evaporative process.
The psychrometric chart below shows the indirect direct evaporative cooling (IDEC) process:
Why Indirect Evaporative Cooling System?
The demand for indirect evaporative cooling systems is getting higher with every passing day. The reason being the way it operates. It brings in a number of advantages with itself and helps one avail complete value for money.
Take a look at the advantages of indirect evaporative cooling systems:
With the help of this technology, the electricity will get down so will the expenses related to it.
It gives better cooling than direct evaporative cooling and that too with low humidity.
You will be benefited from completely fresh air. This means there will be no recirculated air to get your health down.
This technology is not using any kind of harmful refrigerants and is following the eco-friendly mechanism to help you breathe easy.
So, these are the benefits of Indirect evaporative cooling systems and this is what separates it from others. All you have to do is to look for a reliable indirect evaporative cooler manufacturer and supplier like Evapoler to help you have it installed. Connect now and get your indirect evaporative cooling system installed at very nominal rates and as per your business needs!
