Explained | What is relative humidity and why does it matter on a hot day?
Relative humidity is a easy idea as climate phenomena go – however it has important, far-reaching penalties for a way we should care for ourselves on a hot or moist day. Humidity is the quantity of moisture within the air round us, and there are 3 ways to trace it. The most typical of them is absolute humidity: the mass of water vapour in a given quantity of the air and water vapour combination,…

DIY AGE-OF-SAIL INSPIRED FOULIES
part IV: the test
y’all i fucking did it!i’m making an update! first off, let’s go through the weather of the day. it was cloudy with a light but consistent drizzle, slightly chilly, and it had rained enough by the time i was climbing around that the rig was thoroughly wet. (said rig is pictured below with the day’s conditions)
initial reaction when putting them on:
relatively stiff! very similar level of stiffness to my other pair of bibs that I have from 2020; they are just the most basic west marine ones you can buy.
it was sprinkling a bit outside already, and water was beading nicely on the cloth
the ass reinforcement i did began slightly lower than i would have liked, but i guess that’s what you get when you don’t measure anything on your actual physical form before you start sewing lol
i wore them over top of my denim work pants and i didn’t feel congested in there at all
sail prep:
the harness cinched over them just fine and they were super easy to climb in!
we reefed tops’ls and i went out to the yardarm to do the earring lashing, and therefore had full body contact with a wet yard and sail for the duration of the lashing (diagram below), and then stood on the footropes regular-style for a bit to finish up reef nettles. i got back to deck and was not a bit damper than i was before i went aloft. *though everything i was wearing was just ~ambiently damp~ just because that’s how humidity works. if you’ve ever put on an item of clothing that’s been living in under-bunk storage for a month, that’s what the vibe was.
water was no longer beading, but rather a thin film of wet on the top layer of fibers.
sail time!
plenty of time on a knee or sitting on wet hatches i think is what did it. i was still fairly dry; however, by the end of the day i felt a little wetness seeping through at the knees, and more on the butt. that said, the reinforcement was /just/ high enough to cover the part that made contact when sitting.
overall, they fared about as well as those westmarine bibs do currently: definitely works, but not the ideal for a downpour or long watches in the rain.
what i learned:
i’m definitely doing this again and maybe my shipmates and i will have a oilskin-making party, though next time i will be changing the recipe
when i got back to the shop that monday, i found my sample piece of fabric that i put raw tung oil on to see how it cured by itself. it was surprisingly malleable and didn’t crack when i bent it around a bit. i had been pondering using just a quarter of the wax in the next mix just to keep it a bit more flexible so the paint and oil won’t crack as the bibs are exposed to the elements. now that i know what i do, i may even reduce the wax to a few heaping tablespoons just so that whatever wax i use to maintain them will stick better to the cloth. i think the issue here that caused the present pair to wet out was penetration (i’m so sorry i couldn’t think of a better word).
i also waxed the reinforcements after they were attached, and next time i’ll definitely oil the fabric separate from the bibs themselves for an extra layer of protection.
conclusion:
i’m honestly not disappointed and am, in fact, slightly impressed that my amateur soup-soaked overalls are comparable to the state of a (used) pair of mass-manufactured foul weather bibs.

It’s the summertime in Westport, Connecticut.
Elsewhere in the world, a war is being fought. The forces of good and evil collide, and unbeknownst to the woman, her son is about to die.
But no one is dying here.
Here, where plates of burnt cookies and peanut butter sandwiches in Tupperware containers and plastic cups with Kool-Aid litter the rooms. Stuffed animals of various horrendous monsters line the walkways.
May Castellan bakes cookies while her son takes his final breath.
She has no idea that he will never return home.
About a day later, in Westport, Connecticut, the air is humid and hot, but May is out and about anyway. She’s getting ready to bake cookies. Her son’s favorite. His eyes were like his father’s, you know.
But somewhere else in the world, only about two hours away by car, another girl begins to speak. Her name is Rachel Elizabeth Dare, and she’s been taken over by the Oracle of Delphi. The son of Hades is finally not an outcast. Rachel becomes the first Oracle in a very, very long time.
Two hours away, a middle-aged woman collapses.
And one of two things happens in Westport, Connecticut.
May Castellan might have been baking cookies inside her home. When she collapsed, she might have hit her head against the counter on her way down, knocking her out. The cookies, left unattended, caught on fire. May might have died. The firemen, called when the neighbors noticed black smoke billowing from the residence of May Castellan, might have found her in the same place, still with a measuring spoon in her hand.
May Castellan might have woken up in a lobby in Las Vegas. She might have flexed her fingers a little, shocked and finally free of the Oracle’s curse. She might have numbly given the ferryman some cash out of her wallet. She might have appeared before the judges of the dead. They might have declared that ultimately, she had cared greatly for those around her, and had made a brave sacrifice in trying to host the Oracle. She might have been sent to Elysium.
She might have looked around at the host of other dead people, there in a paradise and very confused. A boy might have caught her eye. Barely an adult, with sandy blond hair and a scar down his face. He had blue eyes. Like his father. May Castellan might have approached carefully. She had seen her son in the face of so many people. Was this an illusion, too? She might have asked him, “Luke? Is that you?”
That might have happened.
But it didn’t.
A middle-aged woman collapses on a sidewalk in the heat of a Connecticut summer. Her neighbors call 911, scared that the crazy lady who lives nearby might have finally kicked the bucket. The ambulance arrives quickly, and the paramedics whisk May away to a nearby hospital. She finally wakes up, and begins to take solid foods again. May feels as if she is in a trance—finally without the Oracle’s curse, she doesn’t know what to do with herself. She has become the insane woman, the woman without a child or a job or friends or even an okay house. How does she go on from here?
Two hours away, a girl with fiery red hair and paint on her clothes and skin talks to a boy with pale skin and a skull ring. “She’s been freed,” the girl tells the boy. “I could sense her leaving.”
Two days later, the girl and the boy show up in May’s hospital room. They aren’t technically allowed to be there, but a little Mist goes a long way.
May looks at them suspiciously. “Who are you two?” she asks. “I don’t have any relatives other than my son, and he’s…” she lets that hang in the air for a second.
“I’m sorry, Ms. Castellan, but it’s true. Your son died a hero,” the boy says softly. The girl shoots him a look, but May needed the truth. She’s been living a lie for too long.
“We came to make sure that you were okay,” Rachel says softly. She makes eye contact with May, and a certain kind of understanding passes between them.
“You will make a wonderful Oracle,” May tells her firmly. “Do not doubt that. I was young and foolish. I made my choices. But you are stronger than I.”
“Thank you,” the girl says softly.
“Now,” May says, “Can you two tell me more about my son?”

Covers Bookbinding for beginners by a beginner- The Home Stretch
*drinks half a gallon of coffee*
COVERS!
You've gotten your typeset done for the fic, you've battled the demon that is your printer, folded pages, stitched pages, glued pages, glued end pages, and end bands. Made the cover, covered the cover in potentially homemade book cloth.
Now it's time to design a cover.
It's time to make this thing into a fully functioning book and slide it on your shelf and have a nice bout of "Laying on the Floor while Questioning the Human Condition (TM)".
There are a few options.
It depends on what you want.
I can only take you so far with Cricut/vinyl applications. But I researched enough to maybe, MAYBE give you the run down on at least how to get your cover from Canva to the software to cut out your vinyl. I'll start there since this is what I know the least.
Open up your version of Canva.
Make a document, I've seen some fanbinders make all this in the cricut software but I can only smile and nod along. But for me- this is the best I've figured:
go to the search bar and type in book cover (or use the drop down menu) click on a random template.
Fiddle and fart your way into a design you like. Text and Font Options are available in drop down menus and find some designs that are "Easy to Weed" which I understand as "Getting rid of all the stuff that's not going on the cover".
For Example:
Do you like it? It took me 40 seconds, I'm very proud of it. But this isn't to impress you really I just need to show you how to save your file so you can make the leap from one software application to the next.
Hit "Share", Hit "Download", File Type- Hit the down arrow, Hit "PNG" I missed this for the first few times--- BUT!
Click the "Transparent Background"
If you're doing more than one colour Vinyl you're going to duplicate the page that is located right next to the lock icon above the document. Hit that. Delete the stuff that you want to be different colours. Otherwise it will just cut everything out as one colour and I've seen some vinyl covers that get damn fancy.
You can also build a title cover just measure the spine and height of your spine and rotate your text to horizontal if you please.
Now for how I do mine. I use Printable Iron On Vinyl. Keynote there is a difference, there is stuff for light fabrics, and stuff for dark. Choose for what your primary book cloth will be but the paper itself will be white.
Make your design.
I have 3 different covers for Celestial Navigation by Sabrecmc just because of how LARGE the fic itself is. I had to split the text block up for ease of handling.
I saved as a PNG, and loaded up my fancy printable vinyl into my printer and went through the software for printing, I had to do some fiddling but for my purposes I had to get the whole cover in the right size on the page- it took some fiddling yours might be simpler it might be more complex. But once I got it printed I trimmed off the white and was left with a peel-able rather velvety feeling thing.
Remove the backing. Get the iron on and go low and slow with the provided barrier material to prevent melting and damage to the print you've just done.
I made spines as well and made an 11 x 8.5 (Or brochure template)
And lined up my spines accordingly as to not waste materials. There will be grids that pop up automatically to let you know if things line up.
Print them out on the "highest quality" out put for your photo software.
It peels like a sticker. It may take a bit to get it going.
Line it up as nicely as you can on the cover (double check on the still exposed board).
There is a protective sheet that comes with it USE IT. Set your iron to a low heat and move it around frequently.
If you're in a relatively humid area (I live in a coastal town so the humidity is pretty high all year). Have a heavy book to squish your covers down with to try and get out any bends that may happen post ironing (also why we want low and slow).
Leave to cool.
Now you have a text block and a cover.
For all intents and purposes for my demonstration I'm leaving the spine off and am redoing everything with this fic from the ground up. There are aspects and mistakes that I have made that have irked my brain. So I will be leaving the spines off for this round. This is the learning curve and since a lot have things have clicked into place since beginning this series that have given me the "AH HA! CLARITY!" moment. I have completely reworked EVERYTHING in my text block of Celestial Navigation. Plus I've a perfectionist issue that is a lot milder than what it was.
But these two text blocks will work as my "Ground Zero" and will be the books I compare all potential future binds too.
As a note that I said in the beginning of this endeavor:
THIS IS FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY. FOR THE LOVE OF FUCK DO NOT SELL WORK THAT DOES NOT BELONG TO YOU!!!! YOU HAVE ASKED PERMISSION (I dearly hope) TO DO THIS DO NOT BREAK TRUST WITH THE AUTHOR.
IF You want to offer a copy to the author- GO FOR IT. Close friend that is showing interest in the fic?? Sure ok.
But if you sell it for monetary gain? I hope you stub your toe, and just before it finally heals you stub your toe again and may all your breakfast cereal turn to slugs.
DO NOT BE A DICK. I am writing this whole 'How To' Series as an experiment of Good Faith that you, the potential binder, will do right by the community and not compound an issue that has been cropping up. Etsy sellers, and this horrible Facebook community that will steal other's typesets, and begin selling them.
Like I said- this is a breech in Fair Use.
Now with that lecture, again, out of the way lets settle the rest of this series.
You will need:
Glue
Book Press
glue brush
Wax Paper.
Your Cover.
Your Text block.
Get your textblock and cover lined up with some wax paper in the middle of the decorative pages (if you're doing them other wise the page you glue down to the cover and the rest of the text block.
Fiddle, fart and dry fit until you are satisfied.
Lay down a layer of glue on the page NOT THE COVER ITSELF.
DON'T BE ME. I FUCKED UP HARDCORE AND DID THE COVER WITH THE GLUE. HOOOOO NELLY LET ME TELL YOU HOW BADLY THAT FUCKED SHIT UP.
HOW BAD WAS IT? BAD. VERY BAD. DON'T BE LIKE ME THAT FIRST ROUND, BE LIKE ME ON THE SECOND ROUND AND PUT GLUE ON THE END PAGE.
Line up the textblock for a final time and then apply the paper to the cover open the textblock and smooth what you just glued down. Flip over and repeat.
Then add weight to the text block put it back in your press, or if you're like me and have a reprint in the press just throw books atop the block.
Allow glue to cure over night.
Shiver, shudder, and lay on the floor. Your fic is now a book that you can put on your shelf.
Welcome to the wild wild world of bookbinding.
I've been your host trying their best to explain all the things.
I will likely continue this series with "OK SO I LEARNED SOME SHIT ALL THAT SHIT I WROTE BEFORE FEEL FREE TO LISTEN BUT I'VE GOT BETTER SOLUTIONS NOW" time stuff.
#bookbinding#ficbinding#diy#bookbinding for beginners by a beginner#oh my god I'm done for now#I've done it#I wrote out all of the things#and i likely have to go back and FIX some shit cause.... whooooooooooo I learned a LOOOOOOOOOT#mistakes are great learning tools don't get me wrong but hoooooo I learned a lot

Madame Putiphar Readalong. Book Two, Chapter XXIII:
For the first time in this novel where any place can suddenly become a prison*, we enter the first tangible, actual jail in the novel, and it's none other than the Bastille.
*I believe Proust ironized about noblemen becoming the hosts of whichever place they were in. In Borel’s novel, they are imbued with the alchemic power of transforming any place into a jail whether they own it or not.
J.M.W.Turner, Lecture Diagram 75: Interior of a Prison c.1810 based on an etching from Piranesi’s Prima Parte de Architettura e Prospettiva (1743, pl.2)
We follow Patrick, armed with Pompadour’s letter, into the building. Borel compares it with a beast. Patrick is entering its belly to rescue an already semi digested Fitz-Harris. The jail itself is alive, slowly ruminating on and digesting its prisoners in its gut-like cells. The Bastille is a stone bull, a lot like Phalaris’ Bronze Bull, the narrator remarks. This was a terrifying torture device from ancient Greece, the neoclassicists’ model of rationality and measure, imposing the style in repressive official art (for example see Auguste Préault’s Tuerie: a Romantic response to Triqueti’s La Loi vengeresse a previous and official neoclassical bas-relief)
I’d also say Borel is putting us in perspective with this example: it not only casts the horrors of the Bastille in a magnitude of excess worthy of a capricious, self-appointed tyrant from antiquity, it also shows us how this type of power abuse is not specific to a determinate place and time period (although this novel is very much about ancien régime and restoration era France), it has happened in ancient Greece, it has happened in 18th c France, whenever this abysmal power imbalance is allowed to exist these types of abuses will happen. Finally, the brazen bull is also a great metaphor: its acoustic design transformed the tyrant’s victims desperate cries into the bull’s mooing, a final insult to those dying in it, transformed into a gag or entertainment for the tyrant. (also worth noting, Phalaris was established in what now is Agrigento, Sicily, a colony of Greece, coexisting with democratic Athens)(Phalaris was also, like the French tyrants, finally overthrown by the native population, and some say, roasted inside his own bull)(it is a VERY relevant comparison, on so many levels)
It’s also interesting to note how abstract Borel is keeping France’s most iconic prison. Most of his readers would have had a mental image of it I suppose. But think of how precise Balzac gets when depicting the Concièrgerie (or Hugo in his Choses vues, or Dumas with the Château d’If in Montecristo) it’s almost as if Borel, for now at least, is not interested in documentation of a precise space, we are allowed to imagine any prison, we are allowed to go full Piranesi here. [Insert your mental image of an ancien régime prison here] in lieu of ancien régime France’s most iconic prison, because, maybe its horrors exceed a concrete time and space, specific as they are.
We do see the vault Fitz-Harris is locked in, in its tangible side: a dreadful place where you can barely stand upright, humid, dark, freezing; as well as in its psychological dimension, the effect it has had on Fitz-Harris, how different he sounds now, no more cheerfully mean spirited “monomania of speech”. After weeks of sensory deprivation and immobility, probably half starved as well, he’s grown completely paranoid and afraid of his own shadow. He has probably been hallucinating before, since he thinks Patrick is imaginary too, he also fails to react to the sound of his cell’s door opening.
Fitz-Harris’ monomania of speech is not entirely gone, he cannot help and call Pompadour “—L’infâme! La Putiphar!” right within the guards’ earshot. Patrick grows understandably anxious....
(Interestinly Patrick, a relatively recently emigrated man, knows the Bastille by reputation, he mentions in reference to Fitz-Harris’ anti Pompadour outburst, something called citerne-aux-oublis, a place he says, prisoners were thrown into for harsh(er) punishment. I tried looking this up on Borel’s Bastille related sources but had no luck with the exact words or synonyms I could think of... It is possible Borel is referring to the apparently famous “oubliettes” of the Bastille?
“M. Viollet-le-Duc has assured us, quite gravely, that the famed oubliettes (the bottoms of which were shaped like sugar loaves, so that prisoners might have no resting-place for their feet) were merely ice-houses! It is not denied that these cells existed, and those who care to believe that a Mediæval architect built them under the towers of the Bastille as store-chambers for ice to cool the governor's or the prisoners' wine, are entirely welcome to do so. These were amongst the places of torment in which Louis XI. kept the Armagnac princes, who were taken out twice a week to be scourged in the presence of Governor l'Huillier, and "every three months to have a tooth pulled out."
From The Dungeons of Old Paris, by Tighe Hopkins.
Violet-le-Duc’s drawing of the vaults, and explanation of its origin as ice storage here
Whether he means that or something else, it speaks of the Bastille’s infamy as a symbol of terror, mentally torturing the general population in an attempt to keep them in line out of fear.)
Fitz-Harris, maybe out of prison instilled paranoia, or maybe just projecting his own faults into others, thinks this is a trap, Patrick is lying, he falsely claims he is pardoned, but Patrick is actually leading him to his execution. He still follows, because he has to prove he’s not a coward. (this reminds me of the duel and how differently they both understood masculinity and honour... more on that very soon, in a shocking reveal about Pat’s character)
This routine of Patrick begging for FH to follow him, and the prisoner refusing to be set free is pretty interesting.... there’s something Plato’s Cavern to be said about it, surely. However terrible the conditions, a routine is a routine, sudden change is more scary than quotidian incarceration. It is uncertain and stable at the same time (trying to put myself in the shoes of a person who could barely see his surroundings, calculating the passage of time by the irruptions of the guards, once you realize you’re not being moved I imagine you grow calm because it means you get to live, since any abrupt change is seen by Fitz-Harris as the possibility of execution)
However, as F-H is not as far gone yet as to be unable to notice that he is in fact, being released, showers Patrick in praise, abases himself, swears to change for good and live to “earn” Patrick’s friendship, which he has without having really deserved it. But Patrick reveals a dark side to what we before though was his Christlike behaviour. He confesses a rather perverse pleasure in subjugating the one who hated him so much by making him thankful. His revenge is simply not won by the force of an iron blade, but it is a much crueller revenge, he says. Patrick is less of a saint, less of a Christ intuiting virtues in his potential apostles than what we had been led to think before. He of course has never shared this secret source of pleasure to Debby, not even when she thought him mad and too good for this world for helping Fitz-Harris...
(i am including Fitz-Harris’ previous phrase, I bolded a part that seems like it will be relevant in the future, translation by @sainteverge )
“Apologies, apologies for the all the harm I have done to you! My entire life shall henceforth be entirely dedicated to cleansing myself of my crimes towards you. I shall do everything to be worthy of your esteem; for he whom you esteem must be esteemed by God. As for your friendship, do not ever give it back to me, it would be to profane it! Keep it for hearts righter than mine. Oh! you have my eternal gratitude!” “Fitz-Harris, no gratitude. You owe me nothing, I told you I do not avenge myself with a blade; but I did not tell you that I am not capable of revenge; therefore here is mine: a good deed for an insult. This one is more cruel, I think, than the blade, what say you? to force someone who hates you to bless you, despite himself, in the depth of his conscience; to force a man to blush, to die of shame before his fellowman; that is, if I’m not wrong, a revenge! What say you, Fitz-Harris? We are even, I believe?”
I for one, did not expect this from Patrick... his revenge is still, killing them with kindness in a way... but there’s something about his choice of word that is sensuous and almost cruel, that reveals a vanity, and a perverse relishing in other’s subjugation that is surprising from him. He seemed exceedingly good, and it’s interesting for borel to suddenly introduce this mildly sadistic streak in him.
We are denied Fitz-Harris' reaction, but I bet he was surprised himself.

What is the relationship between dew point and relative humidity?
It provides a measure of the actual amount of water vapor in the air – so the higher the dew point, the more moisture in the air. Relative humidity increases as the air temperature drops to the dew point or the dew point rises to the air temperature (since the humidity is relative to the air temperature).Sep 20, 2021
Dew point vs. humidity: Which one is a better measure of how muggy the air feels?
Your Weather app says the relative humidity is only 60%, but sweat is pouring down your face because the air feels so muggy despite a measly 60% not sounding all that humid. Now you can’t even fathom what a relative humidity of 100% must feel like.
But the next morning, the relative humidity does reach 100%, yet you need a jacket for your walk to work or school. What is going on here?
Relative humidity is exactly that: relative to the air temperature. It could be 100% with a temperature of 80 degrees or a temperature of 20 degrees. Most likely, it’s not going to feel muggy at 20 degrees no matter what the relative humidity is at that temperature.
But it can feel humid if the temperature is 80 degrees and the humidity is only 60%. That’s because the dew point is 65 degrees.
Dew point vs. humidity
The dew point is the temperature to which the air must be cooled in order for it to become saturated. It provides a measure of the actual amount of water vapor in the air – so the higher the dew point, the more moisture in the air.
Relative humidity increases as the air temperature drops to the dew point or the dew point rises to the air temperature (since the humidity is relative to the air temperature). Once the air temperature and dew point meet, the air becomes saturated and the relative humidity reaches 100%. The dew point can never be higher than the air temperature.
Similarly, as the air temperature rises and/or the dew point drops, the relative humidity decreases because the air is getting farther away from saturation.
This chart illustrates the key differences between relative humidity and dew point.
Using the 100% relative humidity example at an air temperature of 20 degrees, that would mean the dew point is also 20 degrees. That’s indicative of a bone-dry air mass even though the relative humidity says otherwise.
In general, once the dew point exceeds 60 degrees, there’s a lot of water vapor in the air, which is what gives the air that muggy feel.
At 60% relative humidity with a temperature of 80 degrees and a dew point of 65 degrees, you’re probably going to break a sweat while doing anything strenuous – even at night or on a cloudy day – because dew points in the mid-60s are indicative of a muggy air mass.
This is why relative humidity is practically useless when trying to determine how humid the air is outside. You’re probably not going to break a sweat at 20 degrees, even with 100% relative humidity.
When does the air start to feel humid?
This table illustrates how muggy the air feels at various ranges of dew points.
Weather conditions affect everyone differently, but a good generalization is that dew points in the 50s or lower are comfortable for most people, the 60s are humid and somewhat uncomfortable and the 70s are oppressive and very uncomfortable. On rarer occasions, dew points can even get into the 80s, mainly along the Gulf Coast or in the corn-covered Upper Midwest; that’s essentially unbearable to just about anyone.
However, these comfort and discomfort levels can vary by region because people who live in the very humid climates of the southern United States might be able to tolerate dew points in the 60s far better than those who live in the much drier climates of the northern U.S.
"Dew points in the Seattle area typically hover in the 40s or 50s in the summer due to our proximity to the cool waters of the Pacific Ocean," said Weather meteorologist Scott Sistek, a resident of the Pacific Northwest. "It's a rare occasion when dew points climb into the low 60s, with mid-60s nearly unheard of. Thus, on the few occasions they reach that level, Seattle residents surely note the very muggy conditions."
In contrast, Sistek said that in the tropical climate of Florida, dew points in the low 60s during the summer are likely a cause for celebration since much of the season has dew points in the 70s there. So it all depends on what your body is accustomed to experiencing each year.
Next time you open your Weather app in search of the humidity, perhaps you’ll consider looking for the dew point instead?
The heat index, also known as the apparent temperature, is what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature. This has important considerations for the human body's comfort. When the body gets too hot, it begins to perspire or sweat to cool itself off.

Why Professional Mould Inspection Is Essential for a Healthy Home
Mould is not just an aesthetic problem; it can create health problems and even interfere with the quality of air inside your home, affecting people in your home in general. While most homeowners may attempt to rid themselves of this problem on their own, professional mould inspection and remediation can be the only proper steps to ensure no residue lingers.
What is mould, and why is it dangerous? Mould is a fungus that flourishes in moist and humid places. Thus, the growth of mould can occur almost anywhere in the home, such as bathrooms, basements, kitchens, and even inside the walls. Although tiny quantities of mould may not trigger health problems, there are specific types of mould that produce spores and toxins that can cause health issues when mould spreads extensively. A Professional Mould Inspection is essential to detect and address mould growth before it becomes a severe problem. Sometimes, exposure to mould can lead to respiratory, skin, and allergic issues, and in certain cases, more serious health concerns.
Why You Need a Professional Mould Inspection A professional mould inspection is not just a matter of searching for visible signs of mould in damp walls or in damp areas. Here's why you need a professional inspection:
Detecting Hidden Mould
Mould does not always grow in places that are easy to see. This fungus usually grows in walls, under carpets, within ceilings, and in unventilated corners. Professional inspectors use many specialized tools like moisture meters, infrared cameras, and air quality testing equipment to detect mould even if it hides in less easily viewed areas. That is how they identify the actual problems, rather than masquerading the small area.
Identifying the Type of Mould
Not all mould is equally harmful. Some types are relatively harmless, while others, like black mould are toxic and require careful handling. A professional mould inspector can identify the type of mould present in your home and determine the best course of action for removal. Knowing what type of mould you’re dealing with is crucial for choosing the right remediation approach and ensuring the safety of your home.
Comprehensive Remediation Plan
After the mold inspection, you shall receive a full plan for remediation from a professional. This mainly deals with steps taken to remove the mould, cleans and proper treatment of affected areas, and measures to be taken for prevention. One would have a do-it-yourself plan, which might just be some form of cleansing, whereas in a professional plan, some aspects would include air filtration, total cleansing of contaminated parts, or even any form of repairs and improvement that would help your house remain mould-free.
Protecting Your Health and Safety
Mould removal can spread spores and toxins in the air, thereby risking exposure. Professional mould inspectors and remediators have equipment and follow the strict guidelines to contain and remove mold with safety. This means neither you nor your family has an opportunity of exposure to harmful spores while remediation is going on. Professionals also limit their action so that spores may not spread into areas around your home, thereby aggravating the same problem.
Benefits of a Mould-Free Home Mould inspection and remediation are services professionally done not just on the fact of simply removing noticeable mould, but for the following benefits:
Air Quality Benefits: Removing moulds means improving indoor air quality and making your home a healthier place to live. It eliminates allergens and respiratory irritants, especially in the cases of people with allergies, asthma, or other respiratory conditions.

How to Maintain an Underground Wine Cellar at Home in Australia?
Homeowners with an underground cellar for storing wines must ensure to give it much attention. That’s where the environment must be controlled if you want to store your collection properly. Below you will find a few easy tips on how to take care of your underground wine cellars in Australia so your investment does not go to waste.
Control the Temperature
It has been seen that temperature plays a major role among all the other factors. The optimal temperatures vary from 12C up to 18C. You should not have fluctuations. Fluctuations in temperature affect the wine and such climate change could harm the wine. If the cellar is warmer the wine ages early, When your cellar is warm into the summer, the wine is ready within a short time. For the best of luck, the area also should not be too cold because the flavours do not have enough chance to develop.
Maintain Proper Humidity
Humidity is also critical. Healthy people should maintain relative humidity within the range of 50 to 70 per cent. The worst part is if it is extremely dry, the corks may shrink. This can open the bottles to the air, hence causing the wine to get spoiled. On the other hand, this causes the paper labels to expand and if this is done in a very humid environment mold may grow over the labels. Make sure to use a hygrometer to check on the humidity levels you have in the room.
Ensure Ventilation
Mould and mildew are also prevented in your wine cellar by ensuring appropriate ventilation. Ensure there is a little or some kind of ventilation in the room. However, avoid strong drafts. Also, good ventilation will benefit by preventing stuffy air as well since wine can pick up scents and smells too. Storing of items that have a bad odor such as cleaning products should not be stored in the cellar.
Lighting Control
There are various factors deleterious to wine, with light being a major factor and sunlight as the worst. These rays are capable of cleaving wine’s constituent molecules. Store your wine in a cool, dark place, or use only a minimal amount of light when storing your wine. Avoid fluorescent lights. LED lights are a safer one because they have low levels of heat that may be emitted. Another protection measure is also using UV resistant doors on the collection as well.
Store Bottles Correctly
One important rule is to never place your wine bottles vertically up-right. This also helps to keep the cork wet so that they do not dry up before going into use. If the cork ever gets dry it allows air into the bottle and this will ruin the wine. Wine should be arranged by classification, area of origin, or year of production to locate wines.
Inspect Regularly
Do not forget to monitor the condition of your wine sometimes, for instance, once in a while, open your wine cellar. From previous measures of temperature and relative humidity available, check signs of moulds and fluctuations of temperature and relative humidity. Check that all machinery such as cooling units or humidity control systems is in good working condition.
Final Words
Fear not, as with the following tips, keeping underground wine cellars in Australia is doable. This means that one must control the amount of heat, moisture and light levels in the room. Treat your bottles right and do a good check-up on your cellar from time to time. This way your wine will remain perfectly stored for several years as per your need.

Common Bathroom Remodel Mistakes to Avoid
The best way to avoid common mistakes is by learning what they are. Knowing about potential problems allows you to plan better from the beginning.
Here are the most common mistakes we see as we work with customers:
Inadequate Ventilation
From hot and humid showers to kids splashing around, excess moisture can come from anywhere.
Ensuring proper ventilation allows airflow to prevent waterlogged surfaces. In turn, you stay ahead of issues like mold and mildew.
This can be as simple as choosing the right bathroom fan.
You’ll want to make sure that your fan vents out of your house, rather than dumping the moisture in between floor joists or into the attic.
If you’re concerned about a fan pulling heat out of your home, consider choosing one with heat-exchange ventilation.
Drainage Issues
Similarly, powerful drainage in the tub, shower, and sink allows the plumbing to do its job. This will reduce water damage and prevent most puddles after use.
It can’t be overstated how important this is, for both health (less mold and mildew possibilities) and safety (less possibility of slipping).
Lack of Storage
Odds are, your current bathroom situation doesn’t offer you enough storage. Towels, cleaning supplies, makeup, skincare and haircare products, bath toys—the list goes on and on!
Your bathroom remodel is your chance to up the storage to be as convenient and useful as possible.
Poor Lighting
Likewise, the bathroom is the place where most people get ready for the day and clean themselves up. We’ve all had the experience of trying to shower or put on makeup in a poorly lit bathroom.
So, when upgrading your bathroom, take this into account. The proper light placement, light fixtures, and light bulbs make a world of difference.
Incorrect Measuring
Measuring will probably be one of the first things done—whether you’ve decided to go DIY or hire a contractor.
At the beginning, loose measurements may suffice for a general idea of your remodel.
However, it is vital that all measurements be precise when it comes to buying products and completing renovations. This is when the old construction adage applies: “Measure twice, cut once.”
Not Consulting Experts
Luckily, this one is a pretty simple fix. Whether you plan on a DIY project or hiring a team, consulting an expert or two will provide you with invaluable insights for your particular situation.
A bathroom remodel is not something you should face on your own without a little guidance first.
Poor Materials (especially tile)
Choosing the right materials and products will make the difference between an expensive-looking bathroom and a cheap-looking bathroom.
It will make the difference between a bathroom that lasts a lifetime and one that begins having problems within a few months.
One of the biggest material mistakes people make when remodeling their bathroom is in their tile choices.
Since we work with so many customers who are disappointed in their tile, we want to call this one out specifically!
Tile in a Bathroom Remodel
Tile is the most common installation for bathroom walls and flooring. But, did you know that tile was not created to be used in wet areas? That’s right. It was made for flooring that wouldn’t be exposed to a great deal of water.
Putting tile in bathrooms is a relatively new thing brought on by fashion trends, not functionality.
What does this mean? Well, ultimately, there are quite a few disadvantages to putting tile in an area with a lot of water, moisture, or humidity—your bathroom. One of the biggest problems is grout.
Pitfalls of Grout
Prone to water damage
Maintenance
Must be resealed
Expensive
Grout is a sand-like filling that hardens like cement. It’s the most common method of filling the space between tiles because it’s relatively inexpensive.
However, this sand-like material is just that: sand-like.
It’s very porous, which allows water to easily seep through the tile into your floors and walls, leading to the growth of mold.
Without complete waterproofing, this is the perfect recipe for mold and bacteria to make an unwelcome appearance in your life, threatening your health and peace of mind.
Water damage is the main threat to a bathroom’s longevity, causing structural damage beneath the tile.
Thus, when using tile and grout, it must be sealed. Even when properly sealed, the nature of the materials are not as waterproof as we would like.
Pitfalls of Tile
Moisture can continue to sneak past the tile, warping and cracking wood underneath.
Further, tile can be very expensive. This is particularly true when you have specific aesthetic needs that demand luxurious designs and materials.
Whatever you tile choices, they will play a big factor in staying on or going over budget.
Finally, if your tile continues to leak, you’ll end up spending more on continued renovations.
It’s easy to assume that tile is the best and only option for bathroom surfaces.
This is a common mistake made in bathroom renovations.
Fortunately, there are much better options that solve all the problems that tile presents.

Is the heat index accurate?
FAQ
It's a hot day. You check the thermometer on your phone; it shows only a moderate temperature, but once you leave the house, the heat becomes too much to bear. Why does the apparent temperature differ so much from the real one? It is because the heat index today is particularly high. Our heat index calculator can tell you exactly how high. Read on to discover what is heat index and how to calculate it. You may also be interested in the wind chill calculator.
What is the heat index
Heat index, or the humidex, is the "felt air temperature". It takes into account both the air temperature and its humidity to describe how hot it really feels. Moist air feels hotter because it hinders the evaporation of sweat - our natural cooling mechanism.
It is worth noting that the heat index only considers the relative humidity in shaded areas. Hence, the true heat index in full sunlight can be even higher than the one specified by the heat index calculator.
How to calculate the heat index
Our calculator can determine the heat index based on the temperature and either the relative humidity or dew point. You can check out the dew point calculator for further information on these parameters.
Measure the temperature outside. We can assume it's as high as 95°F.
Determine the relative humidity or the dew point. In this example, we will assume that the relative humidity is 75%.
Type these values into the heat index calculator.
The heat index today is almost 128°F. Oof!
Heat index chart
Is the heat index accurate?
You might be surprised, but not really. The heat index was invented by R.G Steadman and took into consideration about 20 factors. For example, they included the speed of walking, a person's height and weight, but also the speed of the wind, latitude (and hence the angle of sun's rays), or even the pressure decrease resulting from altitude. When the heat index formula was simplified to depend on only two parameters, all of these factors were assumed to be constant. If you walk faster than 1.4 m/s, or you are hiking high in the mountains, your perceived temperature might differ from the one indicated by our calculator. Nevertheless, it's accurate enough to let you know when the weather conditions are bad enough to cause heatstroke.
FAQ
What are the factors affecting heat index?
The heat index depends on two factors: temperature and relative humidity. It is used to estimate the combined effects of both these factors on the felt temperature, using assumptions about the human body characteristics, physical activity, and exposure to the sun.
How do I estimate the heat index?
To estimate heat index:
Find out the temperature.
Note down the relative humidity.
Using the NOAA data chart, trace the relative humidity horizontally until it meets the temperature line. The intersecting point is the heat index.
How to interpret the heat index of 80°F?
A heat index of 80° F, or 27° C, is equivalent to the combination of 40% RH and 80 °F. NOAA advises caution when going outdoors in such conditions.
Is the heat index of 105° F hot?
NOAA advises a heat index of 105°F is dangerous and can cause heat-related health problems like cramps, exhaustion, and heatstroke.

LED display screen moisture-proof strategy in rainy days
In summer, there is a lot of rain in the south, the air humidity is high, and the walls are covered with small water droplets, which makes people feel that the air is full of moisture. For LED display screens, it is very important to master some moisture-proof knowledge under such weather conditions. Yi Service will give you some tips to help you do a good job of moisture-proofing the display screen in this special season.
The impact of humid weather on electronic products
Humid weather is very harmful to electronic products. Humidity will affect the normal operation of the circuit board and cause short circuits, thereby damaging the function and service life of the display screen. Therefore, it is particularly important to prevent moisture from falling on LED display screens in humid environments.
A. Moisture-proofing of indoor LED display screens
The air humidity in the room is usually lower than that in the outdoors, and it is much easier to waterproof and dustproof than outdoors. In order to avoid abnormal display of LED display screens due to indoor air humidity, the following methods can be used to reduce humidity. How much does an indoor LED display screen cost?
Moderate ventilation
Moderate ventilation can help the water vapor attached to the display screen evaporate quickly and reduce the relative humidity of the indoor environment. However, avoid ventilation in windless and humid weather, which will increase indoor humidity.
Place desiccant
Place desiccant indoors and use physical moisture absorption to reduce moisture in the air. In this way, the indoor environment is dry and there is no need to worry about the display getting damp.
Turn on the air conditioner for dehumidification
If there is an air conditioner in the space where the display is installed, you can turn on the air conditioner for dehumidification in humid weather to reduce indoor humidity.
B. Moisture-proof outdoor LED display
The environment of outdoor LED display is more complex than that of indoor. Not only should we consider the problem of humidity, but also do daily maintenance work such as waterproofing and dustproofing. The following are some specific measures for moisture-proofing outdoor LED display. What is the difference between indoor and outdoor LED walls?
Good sealing installation
Good sealing installation can help the display reduce the risk of water ingress and prevent water vapor intrusion.
Clean the display regularly
Regularly cleaning the dust attached to the inside and outside of the display will help the display to dissipate heat better and reduce the attachment of water vapor.
Application of moisture-proof measures for indoor screens
Outdoor display screens can also adopt the moisture-proof measures of indoor screens, such as ventilation and use of desiccant at appropriate times. What is the difference between indoor and outdoor LED rental?
C. Frequent use of display screens
Whether indoors or outdoors, the most effective way to avoid moisture from damaging the function of the display screen is to use it frequently. The working display screen itself will generate some heat, which can evaporate some water vapor, greatly reducing the possibility of short circuit caused by moisture. Therefore, the humidity of frequently used display screens is much smaller than that of less frequently used display screens.
Summary
The humid weather in summer poses a challenge to the normal operation of LED display screens, but through proper moisture-proof measures, the function and service life of the display screen can be effectively protected. Whether indoors or outdoors, proper ventilation, use of desiccant, air conditioning dehumidification, and frequent use of equipment can effectively reduce the impact of moisture on the display screen and ensure that it can still work normally in humid weather.

How does the LED display prevent condensation?
Email: [email protected]
WhatsApp & Wechat: +86 18038197291
www.xygledscreen.com
Users of LED displays know that moisture condensation is a big killer to screens and especially some connection parts that are not water-proof. Although it will not suffer from rain, it can‘t avoid moisture condensation. If the screen got water, it is most likely to corrode these parts. Over time, it will directly affect the use of LED displays.
In some cities with high humidity, moisture condensation occurs easily on circuit boards and parts due to the dramatic change of temperature. Water droplets condensed inside will easily cause permanent damage to interior parts. Under such circumstances, the service life of LED displays can be shortened from 30% to 50%, causing great damage to the company.
How to prevent water and moisture condensation, thus improving the service life of screen circuit boards and saving repair costs has become a major problem in the quality of LED displays. Therefore, in view of frequent moisture condensation and short service life of indoor and outdoor LED displays in harsh environments, the editor has prepared relevant solutions for all of you.
Moisture proofing of outdoor LED displays
Solution 1: For condensation proofing of outdoor LED displays (apply conformal coating)
The application of many outdoor LED displays in our country has not dealt with the protection of circuit boards, thus the moisture condensation of outdoor LED displays exists on a wide level. By targeting this problem, we have found that applying conformal coating can not only prevent the condensation on circuit boards but also increase the service life of products.
The principle of the solution is mainly to attach a layer of conformal coating with micron-level thickness to the surface of the circuit board through low-concentration micron-level coating technology. As the layer has an extremely low surface tension, the dew on the circuit board will automatically slide off, thus preventing it from moisture condensation.
Solution 2: For condensation proofing of outdoor LED displays (electrical heating)
Electrical heating requires to add condensation proofing devices inside LED displays; to keep the temperature inside higher than the ambient temperature outside, and to keep low the relative humidity inside as much as possible. In doing so, moisture condensation inside the panel can be completely prevented.
Moisture proofing of indoor LED displays
As indoor air humidity is lower than outdoor air humidity, dust prevention of indoor LED displays is much easier than that of outdoor LED displays. In order to avoid the abnormal operation of LED displays caused by indoor air humidity, the following methods can be adopted to reduce humidity.
Regulate ventilation
Ventilation devices are often installed to the LED displays. It can help moisture evaporate quickly and reduce the indoor relative humidity. However, it will increase indoor humidity if the weather is humid at where has no wind or air circulation.
Apply desiccant indoor
It reduces the moisture in the air and keeps the indoor environment dry through physical absorption of moisture, so you don't have to worry about the screen being affected by damp. The environment of outdoor LED displays is more complex than that of indoor displays. The moisture-proofing of indoor LED displays, of course, should be applied well. You can also resort to some extra measures.
However, the protection of outdoor screens needs to stress not only the problem of humidity but also the daily water-proof maintenance. Fine sealing installation can help reduce the risk of adhesion of water and dust inside and outside the screens. Regular cleaning of screens can also help the cooling and reduce the adhesion of water vapor.
In any case, the most effective method to prevent moisture from damaging the function of displays, whether indoor or outdoor, is to use it often. The operation of the display itself will generate heat and evaporate water vapor, thus greatly reducing the possibility of moisture that often causes a short circuits. Therefore, the effect of humidity on frequently-used displays is much smaller than that on less-used displays.
