i keep thinking of mayyyybe trying to cover a milgram song and the thing is that i did. try to do it once but to my own shock and surprise the only song that i was able to handle was. weakness.
i literally was like "okay i have a high-pitched voice uhhh let's go with after pain or umbilical or tihtbilwy maybe??" and that failed and i was like "okay i can't handle fast-paced songs let's go with something slower" that also failed.
and then i tried to sing weakness and. it worked. it didn't sync with the instrumental that well so i still was a little slow but it still. sounded good.
#haruka muu and mahiru kinnies in me were fighting and haruka won. good for him#this close to just singing mappi's psychogram cover honestly. let me go insane. let me go crazy#the hardest thing about singing for me is not even the actual process or mixing or anything. it's the fact that i don't live alone#i COULD sing the highest notes ever or something but consider this. my grandma is taking a nap#or there was a time while i was just quietly singing one of the songs and my mom was like “are you okay? it sounded like you were swearing”#I FIND IT FUNNY HOW SHE WASN'T MAD AT ME FOR SWEARING SHE JUST GOT WORRIED BC SHE THOUGHT SOMETHING HAPPENEDHJDFJDKDK#.. just realized that me kinning haruka muu and mahiru basically screams “i NEED attention”. hold on gonna go fix my kinlist real quick /j#[ 💚 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐬 ]

We've had 16 years of our best girl! She's brought the world, and this community, together with the wonderful songs created using her. There's been a lot of amazing melodies brought to us with the help of Miku, so let's see what you guys' favorites were!
~~~
2007
After fighting neck and neck all day, Melt by ryo (22.9%) won out against Miracle Paint by OSTER project! (niconico link)
~~~
2008
There were several in first place throughout the day, but in the end, the winner was Love is War by... well, also ryo (18.8%), who also took second place with World is Mine! (niconico link)
~~~
2009
wowaka's first entry and first win with Two-Faced Lovers (39.6%)! (youtube link)
~~~
2010
With a landslide second victory, Rolling Girl by wowaka (55.7%) takes the 2010 slot! (youtube link)
~~~
2011
The third victory in a row, wowaka takes 2011 with Unhappy Refrain (22.9%)! (youtube link)
~~~
2012
Pinocchio-P takes the win with his first entry, Common World Domination (35.1%)! (youtube link)
~~~
2013
The 2013 slot is taken by Aishite Aishite Aishite by kikuo (23.9%)! (youtube link)
~~~
2014
Patchwork Staccato by toa was close all day, but didn't manage to overtake Hibikase by Giga (24.6%)! (youtube link)
~~~
2015
Keeping the lead all day, Alien Alien by NayutalieN (31.4%) wins the 2015 poll! (youtube link)
~~~
2016
With a heavy lead, Ghost Rule by DECO*27 (30.4%) takes 2016! (youtube link)
~~~
2017
wowaka's brief comeback to the vocaloid community brings him another win with Unknown Mother Goose (33.1%)! (youtube link)
~~~
2018
Mikito-P snags a win with Ghost Girl (Shoujo Rei) (26.4%)! (youtube link)
~~~
2019
With more a third of the total votes, syudou takes 2019 with Bitter Choco Decoration (36.6%)! (youtube link)
~~~
2020
In an unprecedented twist... 2020 saw a 3-way tie! With 15.8% of the votes each, Digital Girl by Kira, Darling Dance by Kairiki bear, and Because You're Here by PinocchioP all take the win, with Jackpot Sad Girl by syudou just one vote behind! (Digital Girl youtube link) (Darling Dance youtube link) (Because You're Here youtube link)
~~~
2021
PinocchioP songs duked it out, with Non-Breath Oblige and God-ish neck and neck all day (as well as Undercover by DECO*27), but in the end Non-Breath Oblige (23.9%) was the winner! (youtube link)
~~~
2022
PinocchioP takes his third win in a row with a quarter of the votes on Reincarnation Apple (25%)! (youtube link)
~~~
2023
And in our last poll, for the current year, DECO*27 and PinocchioP both snag another win with (Not) a Devil (33%)! A fitting win, I'd say, being such a wonderful showcase of how different producers use Miku in different ways! (youtube link)
~~~
Some other information and stats:
(If I counted correctly) PinocchioP received the most total unique song submissions at 15, with DECO*27 right behind at 13!
wowaka's Rolling Girl received the most total submissions!
PinocchioP received the most wins at 5 - unsurprisingly when you consider that PinocchioP won the producer poll a few months ago!
DECO*27's Ghost Rule received the most total votes on any poll! (30.1% of 184 votes = 56 votes)
Propaganda by Crusher was the first non-Japanese song to get submitted. Digital Girl was the only non-Japanese song to receive a win
Annnd... if anyone's curious, my votes were:
Miracle Paint by OSTER project
Love is War by ryo
Romeo and Cinderella by doriko
Rolling Girl by wowaka
Senbonzakura by WhiteFlame
This is the Happiness and Peace of Mind Committee by Utata-P
Self-Inflicted Achromatic by nekobolo (it was so hard choosing between that and Fakery Tale)
Sea Lily Deep Sea Tale by n-buna (also very difficult choosing for that year)
My R by Kurage-P
Ghost Rule by DECO*27
Hibana by DECO*27 (also a difficult year to pick)
Garando by Picon
Psychogram by DECO*27 (I really like deco niina-san, okay)
Cynical Night Plan by Ayase (another difficult year)
God-ish by PinocchioP
Hollow (Utsuru o Aogu) by Choisauce (which I thought would receive more votes....)
(Not) a Devil by DECO*27 and PinocchioP
I hope you all enjoyed, and once again, Happy Birthday to our girl!

spill the beans.
ooooooooookey dokey boss, i dont have any pictures of them though :( just some pages in my phone notebook..... I'll do my best to summarise them!! i probably wont ever do any proper ocgram thingy with em so ill just spill their secrets hehe... theres 13/14 so ill put them under a cut!!
001! most of them dont have names yet lol i hate picking names 😔 but he's wonderful.... he's 11 and he's a lil silly ^^ he grew up with a single mother who began dating a very abusive man and then they both started abusing him, so he's extremely distrusting of adults. she got pregnant and he realised he needs to protect his siblings, but knows he cant hope to fight back against his parents, so instead he decides to secretly kill the baby after theyre born to prevent them for suffering. He's done this 3 times! He has alot of angelic imagery since he views himself as a saviour. Uhmmm OH his cover songs are Cosmic Rendezvous-> Psychogram-> Mirai Yo. Im not super happy with the picks tbh so they might change...
002! She's 43 and her first name is Yukino :) no last name yet.... she's based on a Kazui theory i saw when Cat came out that's definitely not true and was talked about in a pretty discriminatory way, so ive decided to steal the idea and make it better. She craves violence/abuse and has a gore kink, but has done her very best to repress those feelings and live a normal life, believing herself to be a monster for having these feelings and thoughts. She definitely has OCD. She has a daughter and had a husband, but abandoned them both after seeing her child do the same things she did as a child when her interest in violence started building, thinking that its her influence that caused it and that her child will be normal without her around. Also because if she's got no one tieing her down, she can maybe indulge in her fantasies instead of living a proper life. Her husband, not being able to handle the abandonment + knowledge that the one he loved was fantasing about him suffering the entire time + not being able to look after a child alone, takes his own life.... im not too happy with the murder tbh i might change it later......... she's great though i love her. Her cover songs are Hibana -> Animal -> Mosquito!
003! No name but he's baby. Actually he's 16 but to me he's baby. The first thing he does in milgram is demand a lawyer and tell the warden his murder was self defence (it wasnt). He forces all the other kids into doing his study club while they're in there... he's very 'proper' yknow. He's kinda like Nervous from the first novel if uve read it, went to middle school and became so anxious with being mistreated by his classmates and the adults that he tried to be perfect... and it worked! Until he entered high school, and there's this one girl in his class who is just slightly better than him..... so he pushes himself more and more, secretly hating her and himself for not being good enough. One day, late at night, she finds him on his own, at a pier. She tries to befriend him, since she's just like him, and wants to help him with his burdens and for them both to drop the perfect act...... unfortunately for her, he (again) hates her and cannot comprehend that someone could see through his act and would still love him, has a slight mental breakdown and beats her to death with debris near by, and dumps her body in the water. He gets to be perfect again yayyyyy ^_^ he's the most developed in terms of milgram routes, but I'll maybe talk about them another time.... his cover songs are Angel Hair-> Antibeat-> Theory Of Negativity
004! Kanae ♡ she's a complete hermit! A childhood schizophrenic (18 now) who was neglected by her family and outcasted at school, she's completely dependent on her psychosis, as it gives her companionship and purpose she doesn't have elsewhere. She's aware that she's schizophrenic, but has no intention of getting better. Upon entering milgram her psychosis has come to a (temporary) stop, so she spends most of her time in the prison with 010, since 10 (Kanami) never shuts up and is fine with Kanae not saying much in return. She can't stand silence. She had a younger sister (10ish?) who she was expected to look after since her parents aren't home much, however considering her mental state she can't really look after a child... so after not being fed in awhile, said child tries to make herself food! Only for Kanae to leave her room for the first time in days and finding her sister dead from accidentally poisoning herself;; oops! Her cover songs are Nocturnal Kids -> Liar Dance -> MKDR
005! Probably my favourite ♡ he's one of 3 explicitly queer characters, canonically being in love with his victim and being trans-coded... not explicitly trans but damn can u read his story as a trans story!! He's 17, popular, pretty, rich, has a loving family, his grades aren't perfect but they're still good, and he's genuinely pretty nice to people... he's living his best life! He doesn't know why he's in milgram, he hasn't killed anyone, he swears! A kid went missing in his class sure, but they weren't close, he knows literally nothing about that! Atleast thats what he says ^_^ teehee.... i wanna keep his murder a secret its more fun that way... he's probably the 3rd most unforgivable person in here :) his cover songs are Cinderella-> Secret Feast-> Ghost Rule
006! Haruki :) a lil shy but really nice! She's 28, but when she tells people they don't believe her since she acts kinda childish... she's also a system! But she thinks she's a spirit medium since she keeps introjecting dead people... her system has 6 alters in total, maybe 7 depending on what happens in the prison... but the story only really focuses on 4/5 of them. She lives in a shitty apartment and mostly lives of the money her grandmother sends because she can't hold a job (she tries her best!), her victim is her closest (and only) friend, they met a few years back at an old job and have been inseparable since.... they spend most of their time together. This friend however has lived a very difficult life and struggles alot with suicidal thoughts, basically only staying alive for her sake. She's learned to not tell people about how she's basically 'possessed by ghosts' after growing up being treated like a freak for it, but watching his mental state get worse and hearing him talk about how he wants everything to stop, she decides to tell him the truth. Both because he's important to her and wants him to know this very personal thing about her, and because it's basically like saying "hey when you die you don't actually stop existing, so you should just stay alive 😁". Unfortunately, he hears this and thinks "wow if i die i get to be a part of my favourite person 24/7???? hell yeah" so he convinces her to help him kill himself ^^ she refuses at first, but eventually gives in and watches him get hit by a train. And thus, she gains another alter...... her cover songs are Two Breaths Walking -> Zombies -> Undead Alice!
007! He's a bastard. He's sarcastic, blunt, rude and thinks everything sucks forever. He's 24. He's also based on a kazui theory! Mine from t1 thats definitely no longer canon... so ive taken it and made it much worse!! But from an outsiders POV it looks more like fuuta's story, with it being centred on toxic online groups,, he lived a very normal and good life! He was popular in school, graduated with top marks, went to a good college, graduated, went to a good uni, graduated, got into a good job, got a girlfriend- and surely he'll marry her and have kids and move into a big house and watch his kids grow up and die. That's what he's been told to do, that's what everyone does! Except for some reason he can't comprend, he feels completely dead inside. Theres a ball of dread in his chest and its building everyday until he can't ignore it. Everything feels empty and numb outside of this feeling. So he looks for answers, and while he doesn't find any, what he does find is a group of people on social media who feel exactly like he does. They don't try to lie and say everything's fine and that he needs to just power through, everything sucks and they're the only ones admitting it. They don't encourage eachother to get better, they help eachother get worse, because life is terrible so why shouldn't you just do what you want? And 007 gets sucked in completely. He quits his job, cuts off his girlfriend and friends, and moves back in with his parents, to their dismay. That was 6ish months ago. He's obsessed with social media and will do anything to feel alive in this terrible world. So, of course, when one of his online friends tells him she wants to die, why wouldn't he wish her luck? Life is terrible, he's kinda jealous that she can actually do it while he can't. And then he wakes up in the milgram prison ^_^ his cover songs are Chimera-> Otome Dissection-> Rabbit Hole!
008! She's even worse ♡ actually when writing this i kinda had a better idea for her story, but since its just came to my head I'll have to think on it a lil more.... uhm for now though she's 32 and also thinks life sucks but she's (kinda) over it now. She's used to being at the bottom of society but takes out her feelings by looking down on people even lower than her. Until i figure her out more thats all i can say TT her cover songs are Psuedo-hope Syndrome -> Delusion Tax -> Mono Poisoner!
009! Taisei Furukawa... he's the second one i made so he has a full name yay :] he's my second canonically queer character, he's gay and has had one boyfriend basically his entire life! They met as kids in the same elementary school, his bf came from a very shitty family and Taisei was the first person to treat him kindly and stick by his side no matter what. Unfortunately, his boyfriend kinda sucks, and is lowkey highkey abusive, isolating Taisei from everyone so they both only have eachother. Taisei only realises just how much his boyfriend had ruined his life at 25, and he's pissed ^_^ he knows he can't just break up with him, his boyfriend definitely won't let that happen, and he has no one to turn to for help. So the logical thing here to do is to turn the tables on his bf and try to convince him into a double suicide. Taisei doesn't have much desire to live after being worn down for so long, and he needs to make sure his bf won't just find and abuse someone else once he's gone, so a double suicide is the best option. Sure, he could do a murder homocide, but after how long he's suffered, he kinda wants his bf to feel how he feels... and it works :) the both jump of their apartment building, his boyfriend dies and Taisei wakes up in the milgram jail with a fucked up leg, needing crutches to walk. He's kinda antisocial and grumpy in t1 for understandable reasons (though he helps the kids with the study group at times), but if he's forgiven he becomes alot warmer and friendlier :) there's alot of art symbolism in his story... his cover songs are Turret Of Justice-> 118-> Shinkai Summit!
010! Kanami Shimizu!!!!!!!!! The girlie ever!!!! And the 3rd and final canonically queer character, she's a trans lesbian. She's 23 and so full of life and love and she's so so kind and energetic and kinda annoying but she's just so happy to be in jail with everyone!!!!!!!! She's the first one i made... however i kinda scrapped her murder awhile back since i didn't like it, but i don't have a new one yet :( but whatever her murder is, her personality and ideals remain the same! She's been hurt alot in life, and when she looks around she realises that everyone is the same. She can't live in the real world, it'd crush her, she knows this, so she wants to make a paradise where everyone can be happy forever... and milgram is the perfect place for it!!! So you have to forgive everyone for her ok ^_^ if you don't she won't forgive you. She won't let you ruin this for everyone. Her cover songs are Home -> Please Show Me -> Hedgehog!!
011.... doesn't exist!!! Not anymore i killed him sorry. I didn't like his story that much, but I'm too commited to following the og milgrams male/female prisoner pairings to just leave it at 11 prisoners, so I'll just wait for a new guy to appear in my mind.........................
012! She's 12! No name! My most recent one (except for the former 011 rest in peace). She's being a nuisance for everyone in the prison, she has alot of rage and she will make sure everyone hears it!!!!! She's friends with 001 and she tolerates Taisei but everyone else is her enemy and she WILL fight them if they cross her, which would be scary if she wasn't like 5ft. Her murder is just teenage rebellion went a lil too far........ she doesn't fit in at her new school and acts out, but all the adults in her life don't really get involved, just saying it's a phase she'll grow out of. This only makes her act out more, and more, and more, until it gets out of hand and someone dies. She didn't want any of that to happen, but in milgram she insists she's happy about it and is very very evil and scary so you should listen to her before she kills you as well. She has alot of animal (specifically bear) imagery :) her cover songs are Parasite -> Aitai-lians -> Lonely Shit!
The warden! Our beloved Es he's such a loser. He enters the prison not really taking any of this seriously, and does his best to be as annoying as possible to everyone, he's convinced he's the biggest freak here and he will prove it. Unfortunately for him he is definitely not the biggest freak here and by the start of the second trial he's learned this the hard way. He's an efficient warden despite everything, knowing what to say to rile the prisoners up so they spill information, however he quickly starts losing control of everything and it's kinda pitiful....... his cover song is Salamander!
Jackalope! She fucking hates the warden ^_^ she's secretly a lil fond of him but she'd never admit it. She's very no-nonsense and constantly lectures him to do his job properly, and usually ends up cleaning up after him.... she's not a very good Jackalope, she gets attached to everyone too easily, even if she pretends to be aloof. Jackas dont have cover songs, very very sad....
Mmmmmmmm thats everything!! That was alot more than i thought i wont blame u if u dont read everything.... was fun to infodump about though, thanks for asking lol. Im gonna screenshot everything i just wrote incase tumblr eats it like it did last time,,

🎬: Please do not remind me Kazui and Kotoko didn't get their songs covered by Es 😭 It was such a disservice. I'm gonna just chalk it up to Kazui's voice is so deep that Es couldn't sing it properly and by the time Kotoko's MV was shown to them, the first trial ended before they could even sing it.
Or, y'know. Your AU, so Es did cover their songs too.
Also another thing for post-MILGRAM hangout where Es joins in too...KARAOKE (didn't Milgram have some sort of karaoke-related event running earlier?) Or maybe they have their own karaoke party at someone's home (I know someone has a karaoke set at home!), so they sing their songs and encourage Es to sing too...and pleeeeease sing "half" and "harrow" too (this will lead to Es finding out they've been eavesdropping on their singing. Hey!). Bonus that Deco's song is such a bop in the AU that everyone sings the songs they covered.
...my train of thought is still running, but I just imagined this AU's Milgram allowed everyone to gradually accept their faults that almost led them to their crime. Soooo Mahiru is still just as sweet, BUT rocks it when she sings "Psychogram". Also Amane, I like to imagine at this point she can be a bit more of a kid (I can dream!), so she's sort of bouncing around when she sings "Positive Parade" and "Animal" while the girls dance with her.
But with that said, I hope we'll get more Es' song covers! Or at the very least make up for "half" and "harrow"...and c'mon, Es didn't get to sing at all this trial. What gives?!
RIP I know 😭 I'm hoping we'll get a bunch of covers to fill the trial hiatus, and that they'll start with those two!! I know some people were worried that they would never get covers because they didn't reach 1M before the trial closed, but I think that's an oddly unfair requirement for the later prisoners. So I'm confident we'll get them at some point!
Kotoko's does make a bit more sense -- it was right at the end of the trial, and there wasn't much too break down in the lyrics because she was very forthcoming with information/intention. And I like that explanation for Kazui's! Es was intimidated by his voice and didn't want to do it an injustice by singing it poorly. Maybe Kazui makes a snide comment that they would have actually understood his crime better if they'd studied/sang his lyrics like the others' 😅
And I love the post-Milgram thoughts! Given Yuno's mvs and her written response about liking karaoke, I can definitely see her taking everyone out to her favorite karaoke spot. I like that too because the covers were kind of an indulgent inclusion of mine -- I knew they didn't quite fit in during the trial hiatus but I really wanted it to happen asdfdsn. Like, I know Amane wouldn't do frivolous things, and Kotoko/Shidou/Kazui would try to take the situation seriously and not play around. But if it's all after the experiment... >:3
Thank you 🎬! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for those covers soon 😤🤞
#milgram#amane would feel better about having normal fun and without their duty in mind the adults could have more fun :')#it looks like kotoko has an unhealthy relationship with her duty/responsibility so itd be really nice for her to open up and have some fun#that would explains why they go so hard in the covers too!#because if youre just fucking around with 'coworkers' you wouldnt go super hard on the emotions/power#but out at karaoke night with your friends? oh you can put your whole chest into those psychogram verses#you can bring the crowd to tears with your neo-neon rendition#you can go crazy go stupid with an animal cover#absolutely loving the idea that deco*27 is part of my au canon now#maybe i should add yamanaka while im at it LMAO#thank you sm aahhh!#speaking of es covers i gotta go loop triage a few more times........#lights camera sing your sins

Mahiru T1 Cover - Psychogram
Here's your pal back again with another cover analysis! Am I getting annoying yet? Mahiru time let's go! Psychogram's a cool song, really unique sounding! And, because Mahiru actually has a lover to sing this to, it makes it easier to connect the song to her!
... We just, you know, have to make sure we don't accidentally make her sound like an irredeemabe insane person. I swear it's not as bad as it looks, believe me, please-
CW Murder and mentioned suicide, abusive and toxic relationships.
So... Psychogram is about a girl who fits the 'yandere' trope, I don't think there's a better way to put it.
I love you so much You're too wonderful, I don't want to let anyone else have you Hey, if not me, who would you choose? Come on, don't be scared It's just a fable, a what-if If you won't answer, then I don't need you
I've had enough of apologies Just keep smiling like that forever Don't make me worry; this hard goodbye Will never happen again I love you so much I dreamed of being together, just the two of us Don't run away anymore, I'll protect you I'll toy with all the things that get in our way, One after another It's all for you, I don't need anyone else
(Translation)
"Toying with the things that get in our way" may sound weird, possibly due to translation issues, but essentially it means she will easily deal with anything standing in the way of 'their' love, as if they're just playthings.
The word 'psychogram' doesn't really have a consistent definition, but the most applicable is that it's something which describes the mental functioning of an individual. It's used two times in the song.
It was always going to end this way Is your color changing because I touched you? From your open mouth, a face appears A sweet, sweet psychogram
The first verse has the singer claiming she can see her love interest's 'psychogram' just from their words ("open mouth"), in other words, believing she always understood her partner's emotions perfectly or something along those lines. That's why "it was always going to end this way", because "their color changed when the protagonist touched them", which I believe would imply blushing. Basically, she thinks her interest has always been in love with her.
It's so heavy, it gives me a shock Come on, tie me up tightly You'd better eat every last bite Of the sweet, sweet psychogram
The other case has the singer offering her partner her own psychogram to 'eat', meaning she wants them to accept her as she is. And I'm choosing to strategically ignore the "tie me up tightly" line.
And just in case you're worried I'm reading the lyrics uncharitably, the song ends with the singer killing the other.
I love you so much You're too wonderful, I don't want to let anyone else have you Hey, if not me, who would you choose? Come on, don't be scared It's just a fable, a what-if You won't answer, huh? You're disgusting Come on, don't be scared I'll never let you go
So, uh. Yeah, that's the basic premise of the song. Which is, uh... not a great look for Mahiru, gotta say. I see why the "yandere" interpretation of Ai Nan Desu Yo was so popular in Trial 1.
In any case, what's important to take away from Psychogram in relation to Mahiru aren't the actions the protagonist takes, but rather the feelings they have for their love interest. Going line by line, we first have the idea it was always meant to be and wanting to fully understand their lover, their 'psychogram':
It was always going to end this way [1] Is your color changing because I touched you? From your open mouth, a face appears A sweet, sweet psychogram [2]
[1] [Love is (Un)Dead] (T2 VD) Mahiru: I thought it was fate. He said it was, too.
[2] [Ai Nan Desu Yo] This is a claim of responsibility From the two of us with matching love Wanting to know everything about you, but wanting to die because it can't come true It's all because of love
The relationship is tumultuous and the love is too much.
"What is that face you've never shown to me?" Hey, let's make it sting "When will you give in and be my friend?" Hey, let's make it sting [1] There's nothing here but foul words They swallowed me up I get it, I get it I agree, there was enough love in the first place [2]
[1] [Ai Nan Desu Yo] We fought sometimes, I was happy to get hurt Let's have matching pain, this sickness is pretty bad
[2] [I Love You] My love, it scored an own goal, destroyed my love and me with its weight
Overwhelming love which is scary or inconvenient for the partner (please ignore the murderous undertones in Psychogram)
I love you so much You're too wonderful, I don't want to let anyone else have you Hey, if not me, who would you choose? Come on, don't be scared It's just a fable, a what-if If you won't answer, then I don't need you
[I Love You] This can’t go on, something’s got to give, I even love saying the words, “I love you” My emotions are out of control, that’s inconvenient? I don’t care!
Wanting to be accepted fully as they are.
It's so heavy, it gives me a shock Come on, tie me up tightly You'd better eat every last bite Of the sweet, sweet psychogram
[I Love You] It’s ok for everyone else but not for me Unfair and stuck between in love and love Kiss good-bye to this feeling cuz it’s too heavy? I can’t, no way no way no way
Uh... calling?
"Answer me right away--where are you now?" Hey, let's make it sting
[Ai Nan Desu Yo] Ring ring, I'm calling you in the middle of the night Forcing you to wake up, and I say "Good Morning!"
Not wanting to separate ever, even when they apparently drift away sometimes.
I've had enough of apologies Just keep smiling like that forever Don't make me worry; this hard goodbye Will never happen again I love you so much I dreamed of being together, just the two of us Don't run away anymore, I'll protect you I'll toy with all the things that get in our way, One after another It's all for you, I don't need anyone else [...] Come on, don't be scared I'll never let you go
[Ai Nan Desu Yo] If you don't hug me, even our hearts will start drifting apart. [...] Even when I test you, even the times we do the breakup ritual, Is because I love you
You see? Again, I don't feel like I have to elaborate on the connections beyond putting similar lyrics next to each other, since the connection is pretty straightforward if you ignore the murderous tendencies. One other connection is the love interest winds up dead as a result of the protagonist's love, which again directly connects to Mahiru and I don't think I need to really explain.
The final thing to note is that last line, "I'll never let you go", which in the video plays when the partner is already dead. This could play into the shinju (double suicide motivated by love) theory of Mahiru's "murder", which is too long to get into here, but if you want to read more about it, you can do so in this amazing post by dearmahiru. I personally find it quite likely, it's very interesting!
Yeah I don't know what else to say for this one. Take care!

RIKU INNO PROPAGANDA:
honestly... i understand that riku and yue are "you're both horrible people never change just never involve anyone" but their relationships really remind me a lot of abusive relationships with abuse coming from yue, they remind me of domestic violence if it makes sense. there's a similar feeling that it's inescapable and it's just the way things are supposed to be, it's normal, and also if you leave no one will ever love you like them.
i don't remember the information introduced in earlier trials very well so i might be missing something, but from the current mv it seems like yue is the one who, well, tries to be in the constant state of suffering, and eventually he makes riku grow desensitized to violence and pick up self-harming habits from him. yue is pretty possessive of riku? like he has problems with guilt-tripping others, thinking that suffering is the only way to make people pay attention to him, and specifically take away all of riku's attention; again i don't remember earlier trials well but with the whole "no one but yue gave you the attention you wanted", yue trying to make them jump together, etc. it feels like yue didn't want anyone else to like riku and to be his friend, to have him. yueriku psychogram redraw when? that makes the whole "you stayed with yue just because he was a tool to give you attention" sound kind of bad, as if yue was any better. victim is really the victim i guess. the only one who has survived is the only one who can hold the whole responsibility for toxic relationships
from the outsider's point of view riku of course is the one who holds more power, because he has friends, fans, a reputation, all of which he used to attack yue, but it's not so easy to see what's going on behind the scenes. riku why didn't you just leave the person who was possessive of you and has been showing from childhood that he takes pleasure in violence and made you grow desensitized to violence and pick up on self-harming habits? why did you have to be so dramatic about it.
propaganda accepted 👍👍
also don't worry you're fine i wouldn't necessarily say that yue didn't want riku talk to anyone else bc riku still had friends and he even had a gf (he'll mention her again in his and reina's interrogation as well)
but it was more about yue basically refusing to talk to anyone other than riku. so it was more like "sure i'll let you spend time with others but i'll make you feel really bad about it bc i don't have anyone else to talk to other than you". you're so right about yue and riku's relationship being similar to domestic violence bc riku really thought he can't escape and that nobody will love him as much as yue does even though he literally could just end his friendship and leave yue without doing all of. that. idk men will make their classmates hate and bully their childhood friend and make that friend believe that they want to commit suicide with them and then tell that friend to go die alone instead of going to therapy 😔
#their relationship can sound a bit weird bc like. again riku DID have friends and he had a gf and he was very popular so why did he keep-#coming back to yue. i see it as riku sort of feeling like he has to take care of yue. yue has definitely threatened to take his life#so i think riku would be okay with yue dying but he wouldn't want people to think that it happened bc of riku#also the attention that yue gave him was like. VERY overwhelming and that's the kind riku wanted.#also psychogram is more rukakei song to me but i see your vision..#yueriku are also very pseudo hope syndrome to me..#❔answering asks ❔#🎸prisoner 009: kuroki riku 🎸

I tried to sleep early for once and now im awake now so???
Anyway Ive been holding in those dichotemy thoughts for a long yime Ive talked about it before that post because Im incapable of shutting up but like- I clued into those when I watched AKAA for the first time and I just had to go quietly insane about it since I was so scared that people would be mean about it.
Assorted sleepy thoughts about it:
-Mikoto also falls into this, Milgram I see your “playing into bias” narrative moves, you do not frame someone this much in blood and this much shadow if you arent trying to scare Someone. Mikoto being the most obviously horror movieish in MeMe was the biggest hint that something was up with it- why in thre series filled with murderers is this guy so scary huh Milgram??? What about this guy in particular? What was so different about him huh? I love it when stories do this shit- its always So Fucked I love it.
-Both TIHTBILWY and I Love You play into this to some extent but its much more subtly present in TIHTBILWY. That pouncing animation? The phone scene? The lyrics about matching pain and break up rituals? Fantastic, 10/10. Giving her Psychogram was even better.
-Going Back to Magic Amane is like…not scary, at all in Magic. She is Not Terrifiying in it. Its not even an After Pain Muu situation where if you look back you can see her “true colors” hidden behind the surface- Magic Amane is only really “scary” in that one shot where her eyes turn into spirals and thats less scary and more “quietly horrifiying if you know the implications”
Magic Amane was not scary and we voted her guilty so she could improve- I can imagine Yamanaka fucking cackling when the verdict was finalized. Which fair enough!
-Haruka and Muu play into this so hard that if I wasnt so Amane-brained the post would of been about them. I wonder if Haruka and Muu were partially intended to see how the audience would react to characters that used to be “appealing” but now are “people” and thus aren’t easily infantalized.
This leads into fun Audience-Kotoko paralles (useless weaklings should just shut up and let me protect them!) like- we’re pulling a Kotoko and I am (narrativly) Here For It!
-Muu Its not my fault is soo very good with this lens. Since- she really did do bad things! They all did! And Muu’s so unwilling to change its going to destroy her one day! Muu always tried to position herself as a “good victim” or “powerful person” its fantastic, I love it, itll destroy her one day.
-I hope this doesnt need to be said but dont use this to judge your morality or smthn. Im stating this cause Im relizing that if I didnt think about this all the time Id hound myaelf with guilt over playing into nasty dichotimies but also this is just some fun narrative stuff that is intended to make you reflect on real life, not a judgement of your moral character- I fall into that trap too easily so Im just gonna put that here.

Mappi and kazui!!!!
hello seari how are you how was your day is the weather good for you? i love you
i loveeeee mappi so much but unfortunately have very little thoughts about her in my head right now. isnt that tragic? i think its tragic. i went to go listen to psychogram and parasite to compensate for this fact.
I DO HOWEVER HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS ABOUT THE CONNECTING THREADS BETWEEN MAHIRU AND KAZUI and thats gender roles!
mahiru seems..? to enjoy playing out hers. hyperfeminine, a "perfect girlfriend" that she wants to be, she dresses so modestly but so feminine! i love her, but femininity seems to be all she knows
y kazui....... forced into masculine gender roles from day 1, doesnt seem to be too happy about it either. plays out gender "roles" on stage- a man's man who flirts with women at the bar, goes to war, becomes a cop, marries a woman. and all of it feels like an ill-fitting suit
mukuhara kazui is transfem
she really is
[psst come here. i have a secret for you]

cinnamon!! got any predictions for mikoto and kotokos trial 2 cover songs?
so embarrassing that i was like "aw i wish i could think of something else to post for today" and then i shot up like a bullet going "OH NO WAIT I RECIEVED AN ASK!!!"
um uhm well. hmm. my track record for this has been 1/3 so far so i'd like to see how wrong i am! i don't think these two could get robbed out of any specific cover.
there's tons of different mikoto options i've seen and i want them all tbh. horrid that we're only allowed three when he could easily do so many more... in my perfect reality he protected mahiru from the yandere allegations and covered psychogram himself.
although, funny story with mikoto is that i was discussing potential covers with gunslingr and they said "i fear mikoto will have a chimera cover" right before i said i hope he gets one. my face literally beat red it was soooo embarrassing!!!!
even if i'm still horrified over the memory, i'll still stick to my guns and say i'd like a chimera cover. is it deserving over other songs? absolutely not! but it feels right to me. the cover art depicting miku with three sets of one's—one yanking her hair, one grasping her shoulders, and one praying—really struck me as rgbkoto. especially with the different color palettes bathing one part of her in warm colors while the other is colder (there's a similar mikoto artwork i believe?) there's also the song's name "chimera" which relates to mikoto being made up of multiple identities stitched together instead of a singlet.
the song's theme of reinventing yourself for the sake of attention and hating it also really strikes me as mikotocore. i'm not too familiar with his story just yet but from what i've gathered he struggles with maintaining this easy-going facade in order to blend in with society.
off-tapic but i'm not sure if he works for a black company but... yes, it doesn't justify murdering an innocent bystander (yet) but i will be very upset on his behalf if that turns out to be true. the industry culture of stressing your artists out, making them work overtime, drinking themselves to death, paying them pennies, and then forcing them to maintain this happy-go-lucky attitude—it drives me insane! treat your workers better asshole!!!!!
sorry had to get that off my chest >< but back to the chimera cover! if the black company theory is true then it reads to me like mikoto urging himself to wear this sweet facade whilst loathing everything around him. as an extension of monopoisoner it also has the same "you" themeing and sexual undertones.
Don’t be greedy or you'll drown in poison -> hehe monopoisoner reference
Your face looks like you're trying to suppress your EGO But watch your mouth, love how unsatisfied you are And be sure to swallow any uncouth words
Aw, I just don't know who I am I'm cute Chimera who's changed ←new??That blotchy pattern was a message I'm a pretty little Chimera made to be desired ←♡♡♡
kotoko's a bit harder because my thought process is ❤️❤️❤️ she's so cool! she'll get a cool song! and that's kind-of it.
unfortunately my knowledge of deco is mostly locked into the mvs on his main channel and utaite rachie's cover so uhm. i'm sure there's older songs perfect for her as an extension of anti-beat but dear lord i do not know them. so uh, just going to off of "kotoko would sound so wonderful singing this!!"
I KNOW!! I KNOW!! TWO BORING ANSWERS BACK-TO-BACK LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!!
i'm honestly not a fan of reversible campaign so i'd genuinely prefer if she got 118 or another high-energy song. but hm... it once again simply feels right to me. i feel like kotoko is powerful enough to grab me by the throat and force me to like the song through sheer instrumental change and vocals. rather than mikoto where i can connect him to the entire song, it's really only these two lyrics which strike me as kotokocore:
Using my worthless ego as a pretext I just want to waver between black and white
she insists she doesn't need to be traumatized in order to act this way... she hates herself like everyone else does in the prison. even as she tasks herself as judge, jury, and executioner, i highly suspect its because no one else fought for her. the world she's in is divided between the weak and strong, nothing else. the lashing out in anti-beat slowly dies down into reversible campaign as she considers her feelings. or uh, something like that?
apart from that my absolutely copium cover desires would be theory of negativity, undead alice, ane ghost rule. i feel like those are deffo going to my/haruka/shidou but. but she'd totally slay them. god bless. alternatively for her t3 cover i hope she covers undercover it'd be iconic.
once again kotoko sits in a strange place for me because everything she does will be perfect to me. she's just so cool...!
#throwing up. chance to talk about the kotokoto combo and its mainly mikoto-centric. what happened to feminism#as long as kotoko doesn't cover dilemma im content 🙏 adore that song but it'd be a downgrade#꒰ ☁️ ꒱ ── warm regards‚ cinnamon

"Clothes food shelter + Love and miss you."/ "Love + Fate= Crap, Crush and Bye."
I wonder what Mahiru's line equals. She appears to be outside the birdcage and in the woods. Her clothes are worn out as she's looking over at something. In a way, remniscent of how This Is How To Be In Love With You ended. Except she's a lot less disturbed by whatever she's looking at. Though, her expression could change as the scene progresses to fit that more disturbed one.
Could the bars of the birdcage have been representing these trees all along? This scene could have happened in real life, but her mental space may have changed as well.
Why would Mahiru need clothes, food, or shelter? I know these are basic human needs, but she admits to living comfortably off an allowance from her parents during her first written interrogation. Plus, she has a part-time job at a flower shop. So, I didn't believe she was struggling for cash. Hm, could she miss them or just the person she loves?
Also, the expression she has is remniscent of the girls in Psychogram, too, during the line, "What's with that face that you've never shown me?" The way her mouth is drawn, that is.
Real odd, all around, but given the image and line, I'm uncertain if this will give more clarity on Mahiru and her crime or be an oh woe is me sort of thing. Hopefully, it's a fair mix of both. I just woke up and saw it. Those are my immediate thoughts about it. It didn't get me as hype as the other thumbnails did. I guess my reaction to it is the same as my one for Yuno's, "Well, this is pretty but probably not gonna be a lot going on."
I hope this mv has more surprises than Tear Drop did.

If I ever want to remember how bias people can be I just think "People were really out here thinking Mahiru would get MKDR and were like she's clearly a stalker from the psychogram cover while simultaneously going the covers mean nothing actually when they were brought up against other prisoners." Don't get me wrong I'm just as bias I thought Mu would be getting Chimera cause of a surface level interpretation of her character.
Yet, got damn some people just need to admit they hate a character and move on. Like I could list several reasons why any of the prisoners wouldn't be for someone or could be grating personality wise but if I do people will swear up and down it's just because this specific milgram character is a horrid murderer within a group of ten murderers.
Like not so friendly reminder you are allowed to just dislike a character or even a person in real life without needing to go to any lengths to justify why if you don't want to. If you do and that's fun for you have it get that enjoyment. Personally I kind of push individual dislike to the bottom when it comes to milgram voting but I'm not afraid to say how I personally feel about any of these characters if asked.
#milgram#everyone deserves to be a little hater sometimes#i just can't wrap my head around how trying to justify why helps anyone though#like i could just not get it cause it's a subjective thing like and dislike#and i'm more into inrefutabke truths than oh i just love them#however i do have autism and am a aromantic/demisexual sooo those could be factors here

'Everyone lives for themselves How lonely and alone are people actually, throughout their lives and in the sometimes fast, sometimes slow stream of decades? What is just a facade, what is imagination, and how much do you need others to feel safe? Answering these questions often seems uncomfortable. Because they convey facts as light that no one wants to recognize. Filmmakers, among others, also ask themselves these questions and discuss in very different ways what being alone can feel like. Man comes into the world alone, interacts with others during his life, relies on his mother and father when things go well, later on the human being, if one can be found, and then, alone, leaves this world again. Encounters and belonging to others create the drive you need to keep going. If this component is missing, there is at least the hope that it could one day become that way. In Uberto Pasolini's Mr. May or the Whisper of Eternity, the loneliness of man in the midst of people is staged as a deeply sad, almost defeatist requiem that tightens your throat. David Lowery stirs up the pain of remembering and getting lost in the memories of a past life, both the living and the dead, with his metaphysical meditation A Ghost Story. In these films, people are asked to endure their existence - and also death - in the awareness that they will always remain alone with the fact of their existence because they cannot share their own existence. Because it is what you have.
This existentialism in the film allows Andrew Haigh to dream a big city dream in which the boundaries between reality and imagination dissolve right from the start. At the center of the psychogram, surrounded by a social vacuum, is a man named Adam, who lives in an apartment building floating above the London skyline that is almost empty. Adam is therefore a lonely cosmonaut who looks down on the million-dollar hustle and bustle of a big city without belonging. He is alone and lonely, listless, lost in thought, drained of the energy of the sunrise, which, it happens, puts on its show for him alone. Neighbor Harry (Paul Mescal), who rings his doorbell one evening, is also isolated and disconnected from a life of togetherness. At first Adam prefers no contact, but a short time later, after it becomes clear that both are queer and feel affection for each other, a tentative relationship develops that is always interrupted by a miraculous fact that reconjugates time and space. Because Adam, who lost both parents in a car accident when he was twelve, gets the opportunity to see his mother and father again. All he has to do is go to his childhood home and everything is suddenly the same again, as if Adam were twelve again. But he isn't, and his parents also know this, as they are aware that he has long since died.
What you wouldn't give to be able to say again to loved ones who have left us what you always wanted to say, to be able to ask again what you always wanted to ask. And just didn't have the opportunity anymore. This opportunity is revealed to Adam and he takes advantage of it. He says goodbye again, can hug his parents again, sort things out and tell them how things have been going for him since then. Andrew Scott gives the lonely person who cannot overcome the pain of loss and is afraid of suffering new ones, with a vulnerable intensity that makes you feel like you have known him for a long time. What he feels becomes palpable, because they are emotions that we are all familiar with. All of Us Strangers becomes an immersive soul journey to a primal fear bathed in colored light, protected by the cloak of repression. Haigh tears this one down. Ecce homo, you think you hear him say. And there he is, this Adam, a lonely human being, torn between longing, farewell and overcome by a desire to travel into his inner self.
Perhaps, some might criticize, All of Us Strangers indulges in an exaggerated sadness. I think emotions like these are too real to be called kitsch. Filming may not have been easy, but Scott seems to have remembered some of the painful experiences in his life. Haigh's film is hard to beat in terms of intimacy and closeness, is surreal, full of dream sequences and memories, immersed in color spectrums and accompanied by a hypnotizing score that leaves room for classics like The Power of Love by Frankie goes to Hollywood and this one finally from the Christmas Playlist deleted. All of Us Strangers is a close-up experience and a psychological trip, perhaps even a ghost story, but certainly not light fare and leaves a heavy, I don't want to say sentimental, but wistful feeling; a lump in the throat, a pressure on the chest. Haigh's film is not liberating, but it is exhilarating and beautiful in its epic exploration of existence, which consists of loss and search. The film has no hope, but a lot of insight. Above all, longing can also mean security.'

Okay, we're trying this again, since apparently writing my thoughts out in the tags didn't work out quite like I wanted it to. *sighs frustratedly*
I have a lot of criticisms when it comes to MILGRAM, especially the way certain topics and characters are portrayed. I've talked about it a bit before, but let me get it all out there.
In general:
I don't like how suicide is treated and portrayed in this series.
As a law student, it grinds my gears that almost half of these characters did not actually commit murder. Even if we ignore Yuno's contentious case (I don't think abortion is murder, personally), Futa, Mahiru, and Kazui's cases are manslaughter or wrongful death at best.
I dislike how imbalanced some of the character portrayals are; I find it frustrating that sets of characters who have similar crimes or similar reasoning for what they did are generally unbalanced to favor one character over the other.
There are issues with ableism in this series.
With regards to characters, I have issues with how Haruka, Muu, Mahiru, Mikoto, and Kotoko are portrayed in particular.
Haruka...okay, I'll admit, I have a bias because Haruka is my favorite, but I genuinely have issues with how he's portrayed in All Knowing and All Agony specifically. The thing with AKAA is, while it's really good in most aspects, I personally feel as though the MV leans too much into the violent acts that Haruka did and less into the sympathetic aspects of his character (like how he's an abuse victim and how he was genuinely just trying to be loved). It portrays him as animalistic and dehumanizes him a bit. I feel like this is especially an issue considering Haruka is very autistic-coded imo. I also dislike that Es calls him stupid and treats him as such. I also don't like how Haruka's suicide threat has been treated during trial 2. I can't exactly explain what bothers me about it, but in some ways, it's been treated dismissively this whole time.
Muu...look, I don't even LIKE Muu, and I still think she got done dirty by It's Not My Fault. The whole monstrous queen bee thing is dehumanizing to her, and I don't really see how it's a "oh, Muu sees herself like this, and it's a portrayal of how she sees herself negatively" thing. I think she's portrayed in an excessively negative light, and like, yes, she is a bad person, but they didn't have to go that far.
Mahiru...okay, so most of my issues with Mahiru are with the fandom and how people portray her, but I still have issues with canon. First of all, I think Daisuki was too graphic with showing her boyfriend hanging twice. It's genuinely kind of triggering and upsetting. It's particularly egregious when you compare Mahiru to Kazui. I say this as someone who loves Kazui: please look at how Hinako's suicide is portrayed in Cat and half and compare that to Mahiru's boyfriend's suicide in Daisuki and tell me that there's no difference. You can't, because there is a MASSIVE difference in how those two deaths are portrayed. In half, Hinako's suicide is just implied with the scene where it shows her standing on the balcony and then shows the balcony empty. In Cat, Hinako is shown falling, and then a red apple is shown falling and going splat. Compare this to how in Daisuki, Mahiru's boyfriend's hanging body is shoved in the viewer's face, *twice*. Yeah. In my opinion, for the second trial, Mahiru's crime is portrayed as worse compared to both Shidou's and Kazui's (partly because we still don't know what Shidou exactly did), which is unfair. Also, translating "dai" as "monstrously" in Daisuki was...a choice, one that I think portrays Mahiru in a negative light. Also, giving Mahiru Psychogram as a vibes cover for trial 1 was also a choice that really did not do Mahiru any favors.
Mikoto...I think y'all know where I'm going to go for this one. Mikoto's writing falls into the "serial killer with DID" trope, which is ableist and overused. He's treated as violent and a loose cannon, which...honestly doesn't make much sense, given the context of what has happened thus far. Everyone but Haruka has avoided him since trial 2 started (presumably because of his DID). Kotoko has told him to his FACE that his existence is a crime, and Es told him that his existence is a sin, which, DON'T SAY EITHER OF THOSE THINGS TO SOMEONE WITH DID. Mikoto's DID is heavily demonized in MeMe, and I think that giving the character with DID Mono Poisoner as a vibes cover was...a choice that definitely paints Mikoto and John in bad lights. Just...yeah. It really sucks to see Mikoto (and John, for that matter) portrayed this way.
Kotoko...so Kotoko is an asshole. We kind of established that during trial 1. The thing is, the entirety of trial 2 has doubled down on making her unlikeable, with the only positive interaction she's had all trial being the conversation with Haruka where he convinces her to not interfere with his attempt to hurt himself, which is not a good look for her either. Deep Cover, as some people have described it, is a diss track where she's pretty much going into why everyone else in the prison is awful and deserves to be voted guilty in the harshest way possible. It doesn't go into her crime or really focus on the more sympathetic aspects of her character. It moves too fast and doesn't even necessarily portray her relationship with the girl she saved in the best light either. Kotoko also gets dehumanized with the whole werewolf transformation at the end as well, although I do think you can argue in good faith that this is how she sees herself, and she's upset or scared of what she's become. Like, I know that some people want to see her get worse, but I genuinely want to see her get better and be a good person who does justice. Maybe that's my bias of having her as my favorite MILGRAM girl though.
Anyway, I think that covers most of my issues with MILGRAM canon. I know I didn't go into everything in depth, but I hope you can see where I'm coming from. I'm absolutely dreading trial 3, and I'm only staying here because I care about Haruka, Kazui, Kotoko, Shidou, Futa, and Mahiru too much to get myself to leave. So...yeah. That's it I guess.
Actually, I'm curious Do you guys have any criticisms when it comes to Milgram? Specifically from a writing/storytelling/character perspective, but it can also be about anything.

Intro post time!
Hello members of the jury! I am 1moremilgram-enjoyer (nickname: FF), and I’m your
Local Amane Momose Apologist!*
*(Her character is nuanced and cannot be reduced to “a pure soul who’s done nothing wrong.” Understand I am aware of this fact and I am only calling myself an apologist in a hyperbolic sense. With that established, I voted her inno because she’s a pure soul who’s done nothing wrong)
This is a Milgram sideblog because it has consumed my brain. My main blog is 1moreff-creator, which is where my nickname comes from. If you want to talk to me about anything non-Milgram related, you might want to go there.
