Psycho-pass Movie Novel Chapter 6 Complete
Note before reading: sentences in italics represent the character’s thoughts; sentences between square brackets are phone/radio conversations or the voice of dominators or other electronic devices.

“...so, the mission was a failure. And you say that the Japanese agent Tsunemori is missing?”
“Yes. She even acted as if she was helping the guerrillas. She completely overstepped her bounds.”
Standing in front of Chairman Hang’s desk in the office of his official residence in Shambala Float, Nicholas gave the report on the failed operation.
“Be that as it may, she was a foreign guest who was completely in your custody. It is a matter of responsibility,” Hang said coldly.
“But...!”
“I’m joking.”
A joke? He couldn’t really laugh. Nicholas was seething with anger, but he didn’t show it.
Hang continued.
“The Japanese government understands the current state of this country. They wouldn’t have sent her alone so easily if she was a person whose death was problematic for them.”
“...it’s a really unfortunate outcome.”
“If anything, Colonel, you should prepare yourself for even bigger trouble.”
“Hm?”
“It is possible that she was sent here precisely because she is the type of person who would not be expected to die in these conditions, I look forward to reading the next report.”
Though puzzled by the Chairman’s meaningful words, after a silent salute Nicholas left the office.
— What is the Chairman thinking?
Nicholas pondered as he walked down the corridor of the official residence. Lately, he had found himself understanding Hang’s thoughts less and less.  Despite being a puppet of the Japanese government, the Chairman had insinuating manners and the number of actions that even the National Military Police couldn’t keep track of were increasing.
MYSTERIOUS CARGOS COMING REGULARLY FROM JAPAN[1]
(If I make any more mistakes...!)
Chairman Hang might even leave me out.
Nicholas Wong, the country’s most effective strategist. — However, knowing too much about the secrets of Shambala Float is a double-edged sword. When the Sibyl System is fully operational, I can’t rule out the possibility that I’ll be left out. Even Sem, that excellent soldier, had been discharged simply because of an injury he received during a military operation. This was the perfect pretext to do so, as he was inclined to doubt the government’s actions. Sem, who could not even receive medical treatment and was thrown away like rubbish, is now the leader of the anti-government guerrillas.
... I have the feeling that the government and the National Military Police have repeatedly made serious errors of judgement in recent years.
— What can I do?  Even if I have to clean up for a puppet, it’s my own important job.
(What about using that man?)
He’s expensive, but I have no choice.
If all goes well, I may be able to sweep the guerrilla away on the way.

— The calm surface of the sea reflecting the subtropical sunlight and the subtle sound of the waves. A single islet floating in the Nansha Archipelago[2]. There, an inappropriately rustic pier had been built on a white sandy beach that seemed to glitter. A heavily armed high-speed boat was moored at the pier.
Tumblr media
On a small hill several hundred metres inland, a colony of Livistonas[3] grew densely. A Provencal-style villa stood there, cutting through part of the palm trees. It looked like a holiday home in an aristocratic colony. A mercenary corps had built a large resort on this island. The countries around the world that hadn’t imported the Sibyl System had essentially fallen into ruin, but their piece of land was the only one that was different. A paradise for the mercenary aristocracy, protected by weapons half a century old — the latest “at the time”. All over the island, young men and women from the southern lands, taken by force, had been forced to work.
Tumblr media
A man was relaxing on the open deck of the villa, in a spot reached by the shade of the trees. Sitting comfortably in an armchair, his long legs crossed, he was reading a French book, tasting it bit by bit.
“Peau noire, Masques blancs”
He was a muscular black man with an intellectual look. His right arm and left leg were prostheses made of a special alloy. As he read, he occasionally tasted bourbon whisky, holding it in his mouth.
His name was Desmond Rutaganda.
Tumblr media
The king of this island. Rutaganda, the king of the mercenaries.
His portable terminal flashed as he received a call.
“...mm?”
He closed the book and started the voice call.
Through a hologram, the face of Nicholas Wong, a profitable customer, was cast from the portable terminal.
[I have an urgent job I’d like to ask you to do. You will be generously rewarded, of course.]
“That would be welcome. Everyone here has too much time on their hands.”
Rutaganda stood up. He took off his reading glasses and placed them on the table. From the open deck he could see the beach. A beautiful beach — however, looking closely at it, one could see the targets lined up for shooting practice. A few slaves who had behaved defiantly had been tied to wooden posts in the ground as a warning. After being tied down so that they couldn’t move, they were aimed at parts of the body that were unlikely to kill if hit, such as the abdomen and legs, and filled with bullets. The slaves, who had been shot for several hours or days, were in great pain. Illuminated and dried by the sun, they would have become shrivelled corpses exposed to the sea breeze.
[There are two Japanese among the guerrillas who have set up their headquarters near the ancient ruins. A man who joined this group and an inspector who came from Tokyo to arrest him. These two... I want you to take care of them.]
“The guerrilla is one thing, but an inspector too? An agent of the Japanese government, right?”
[She might stick her nose into our business in the future. She’s a hindrance.]
“Good grief! Ever since you got involved with the Sibyl, you’ve only been giving us annoying requests.”
[Thanks to the Sibyl, we got our hands on the paradise called Shambala.  If you want, you can live a civilised life here. How long are you going to play savages on that little island?]
“At the level of individuals, violence is a cleansing force. It frees the native from his inferiority complex and from his despair and inaction; it makes him fearless and restores his self-respect.”[4]
[...what?]
“You don’t know Frantz Fanon?”
Rutaganda smiled.
Nicholas with a rather offended face, [We are investigating the exact whereabouts of the targets. As soon as we find them...]
“Don’t worry about it. Mercenaries have a unique intelligence network. Most information can be bought with money and valuables. Of course, I will have to charge you separately for the necessary expenses.”
[...]
“I will need landing permits for the military aircraft and IFF identification codes...”

As they moved, Kougami lent Tsunemori his shirt. Since Tsunemori was wearing the PSB fighting uniform, the logo had to be hidden. He couldn’t bring a person who openly identified herself as a government official into a base held by the organised resistance, and since they had gotten wet running from the Ganesha, the shirt could also warm her body.
Ancient temples, completely forgotten, located where the forest gave way to the countryside. The guerrilla base camp, the organisation of the resistance structure, had been built on the ruins of the once flourishing capital. Old people and children lived there, then soldiers.
Kougami stopped the military jeep at the entrance to the ruins. A few local men, old rifles at the ready, approached. One of them, who appeared to be the leader, spoke to him.
“Kougami, who is she?”
“It’s hard to explain... but she’s not an enemy. She’s a guest of mine, Sem.”
The man named Sem was dragging his leg slightly due to some kind of injury. There was also a scar on his head.
“…ah”
Tsunemori hadn’t been able to greet him immediately. She’d been overwhelmed by the strange atmosphere he was in. That didn’t mean that he was a frightening person. Despite the bloodshed he’d experienced, his honest gaze radiated a dignity that hadn’t lost its humanity.
“Did Kougami also show you the way? Then we are comrades.”
The smile and Sem’s outstretched hand finally allowed Tsunemori to greet him with a bow. Despite her confusion, she accepted the handshake.
“I am Sem. I am the leader here.”
“I am Tsunemori Akane. Nice to meet you.”
Tsunemori was still unsure how much she could trust the guerrilla.
The group of ancient ruins appeared tangled with ivy and invaded by wires, on the verge of being swallowed up by the forest. A harmonious sight of vegetation full of life force and gigantic stones burnt and discoloured by the sun. On the other hand, it seemed to be effective in deceiving the government forces. Because of the topography, even bombing didn’t seem to work. The ruins were located in the middle of small mountains with several caves that also served as shelters. In the largest of the old temples there was a great number of barracks and tents. Women and children lived there. The women’s duty wasn’t just to cook and wash, those who seemed to have quick reflexes had joined the men in picking up weapons. The men lived in the soldiers’ quarters nearest the forest. Most of the men worked hard at military training in the open air.
This was the rebel base where Kougami and Tsunemori walked side by side. At that moment, the inhabitants of the base made a gesture as if they were worshipping Kougami. — This is gratitude. Kougami Shinya had gained respect in that base. In the few years that Tsunemori had been fighting crime in Japan, he must have brought these rebels many small victories.
Tsunemori had become incredibly sad. She didn’t want to believe that Kougami’s decision had been right.
A structure that looked like something between a prefabricated house and a tent was Kougami’s place. The leaders of the rebel forces seemed to be gathered on the second floor of the perfect wooden structure. The two of them were alone in Kougami’s room. There was a strange tension. Kougami prepared Java tea for two and sat down in front of her, the table separating them.
“…Is Gino doing well?”
“After that he became an enforcer.”
“I see...”
A look of slight regret appeared on Kougami’s face.
“Is there a new inspector instead of Gino?”
“Yes. She’s not a bad person, but... she looks at latent criminals with too much hostility, and that causes problems in the investigation.”
“Looks pretty tough.”
“Not as tough as your situation, Kougami-san. What are you doing in a place like this?”
“At first, I was looking for a quiet place. I was tired, you see”, Kougami had a distant look on his face as he said this.
“But when I left the Sibyl System, I found that there weren’t any quiet places left. Everywhere in the world was a battlefield. I thought I had trained myself, but I realised how naive I had been. I learned to survive again.”
“But why did you join the guerrillas?”
“Soon after I came to this country, Han’s arbitrary policy and the use of drones to hunt down guerrillas began. It was too much...”
Tsunemori thought back to the battle of the National Military Police led by Nicholas and the battle of the drones to defend the borders.
“So, I decided to teach the resistance forces how to fight them back. The drones are all made in Japan. I know their weak points and the best ways to defeat them.
“What will change in such a way?”
“We may look like this now, but in the beginning, we saw the possibility of winning through perseverance...”
Lighting a cigarette, Kougami continued.
“He may call himself Chairman now, but Han is really just the leader of a military clan. He joined forces with Sibyl to gain an advantage over his rivals. He didn’t want the paradise of Shambala Float. He was only interested in the military drone units he would acquire on the pretext of defending it. That was all he had in mind,” Kougami puffed out a cloud of tobacco smoke with a melancholy look on his face.
“As a result, Han’s power overwhelmed the other military clans and his men became the strongest armed group, but that should have been the end of him. In a sense, the Sibyl System is the ultimate bureaucracy. It would be anathema to a dictator. Once he got to the point where he could rule, he would be completely controlled by the system and rendered powerless. It was only a matter of time before Han found out how terrifying Sibyl could be, and we thought that once he realised that, Shambala Float would kick him out before he could finish building it. That’s what we thought a year ago.”
“But... the outcome was different.”
“Yeah. Han has quietly handed over the real power to Sibyl, and a Japanese-style paradise has been created over the sea... And now armed drones are still running around mercilessly killing the opposition forces.”
“...”
“Maybe there is a back story between Han and Sibyl that goes beyond our imagination. I can’t give up until I find out what it is. Although it’s getting harder lately, you know.”
Despite this pessimism, Kougami’s expression was one of unwavering and strong fighting spirit.
“This... is your justice, Kougami-san. Is it? Without relying on the law, you continue to fight with your selfish stubbornness, involving a multitude of people.”
“You’ve learned how to talk, uh?”
“You haven’t changed at all. Uh, I’m relieved.”
“...?”
At the serious tone of his voice, Tsunemori softened her expression. Kougami looked doubtful.
“Do you really have nothing to do with the terrorists who came to Japan?”
“Sure, there were some who said that we should take revenge on Japan, the place where Sibyl has its roots. Both Sem and I were against it, so they left that camp... They weren’t a bunch who could work out the way to cross the ocean on their own.”
Tsunemori showed Kougami the faces of Samurin and the others on the holo display of her portable terminal.
Kougami nodded, “No mistake. Samurin, Maa, Nook, Muse, Soban, Simu... It’s them. Are they all dead?”
“The man called Maa is the only one who survived.”
“They wasted their lives...”
Kougami said, looking sincerely sorry.
Tsunemori’s face darkened. She couldn’t tell Kougami how miserable Samurin’s end had been. She was eager to continue the conversation.
“...They even made arrangements to get advanced cracking equipment getting in touch with the receivers of the abandoned blocks. Isn’t that strange?”
“Sure. My guess is that there must have been someone who helped them.”
Both Kougami and Tsunemori fell silent, absorbed in their own thoughts, and after a while, “...somehow it looks like we’re both in a deeper quagmire than we thought.”
Kougami spoke.
“Stay here tonight. At daybreak, I’ll have someone take you to Shambala Float. If you behave yourself, you won’t be harmed.”
“Would it be useless to ask you to come with me voluntarily?”
“Please don’t tell Sem you’re a detective. If they find out you’re a government agent, even they won’t be able to keep their mouths shut.”
4
The large base of the Resistance forces used a group of ancient ruins. In the darkness of the night, a figure swam in the great river that surrounded it. Swimming at night makes it difficult to get a sense of distance, and amateurs are prone to drowning. However, “she” was far from such foolishness.
Desmond’s group of mercenaries, outlaw spies hired by Nicholas Wong.
Yulia Hanchikova, a member of the mercenary group, was swimming towards the Resistance base.
A woman from old Russia with short hair, her body surrounded by water. The well-trained, tall body was wrapped in a stealth suit, difficult to detect by any sensor. The face was also camouflaged with stealth paint.
The suit clung to her body, thin but highly resistant to bullets.
Rutaganda preferred to conduct military operations with a small number of elite soldiers.
Yulia, Weber, Babangida, Bun and the leader Rutaganda. A team of five in total.
“…”
Yulia was one step ahead as a reconnaissance officer. The woman was carrying a backpack full of sensors. Protruding from the backpack was an antenna made of conductive reinforced plastic. The antenna, which moved like a living creature detecting Yulia’s thoughts, looked like a scorpion’s tail with a stinger. Having confirmed that there were no guerrilla sentries, Yulia emerged from the river. She scattered almost insect-sized micro-drones over a radius of several kilometres. Yulia sent out terahertz waves from the micro-drones and the antenna.
A terahertz wave radar.  Terahertz waves include light waves, radio waves and everything in between. By building an optical measuring system, it’s possible to get a highly transparent range. All of Desmond’s mercenaries had contact lenses and handheld terminals for military use. Contact lenses with an ultra-compact display and integrated microprocessor.
An advanced army would have countermeasures against micro-drones and terahertz-wave radars, but the guerrillas didn’t have the technology or the money. On the contrary, the technological power of Desmond’s mercenary group outstripped even Shambala Float’s government forces. Only a few mercenaries and private military companies currently possessed this level of technology. Both were backed by the Japanese government.
The results of the information gathered by the terahertz wave radar were displayed on the contact lens display. In the computer graphics-processed field of view, guerrilla soldiers and weapons in ancient ruins were framed in red. At the same time, accurate maps and the location of guerrilla watchtowers were uploaded.
Immediately, Rutaganda’s instructions arrived.
[Attack the nearest, Watchtower A. Immediately after that, Watchtower B as well.]
“Roger.”
At the entrance to the ancient ruins there were watchtowers made of steel frames that served as lookout posts. Two watchtowers, each with two guerrillas on sentry duty. The watchtowers were about 15 metres high. Yulia, who already knew the enemy’s position, wrapped the conductive reinforced plastic antenna around the steel frame and climbed the watchtower silently.
The watchtower was surrounded only by a low wall and was mainly used to watch out for drones and aeroplanes. Humans weren’t expected to sneak up on it, or so it seemed. The area of the watchtower was five metres square. Stealth kills were quite a challenge in such a space, but Yulia could do it. She climbed up to the watchtower and silently approached a soldiers.
She pulled out a knife and slit the throat of the defenceless guerrilla.
She then moved on to the next guerrilla soldier. She grabbed the rifle sling, pulled it down, covered the soldier’s mouth with one hand and stabbed him in the heart with the knife.
After returning the knife to its sheath, Yulia slinged a suppressed submachine gun on her back. Subsonic bullets are used to minimise the sound of gunfire (when conventional bullets are used, the initial velocity exceeds the speed of sound, resulting in a high-pitched gunshot accompanied by a shockwave). She pulled the trigger, aiming at Watchtower B from Watchtower A. Two more kills without making a sound.
“...Clear”
Yulia informed her comrades via the communication function of her portable terminal.
Desmond’s mercenaries exchanged information through a hologram that appeared from the portable terminals.
“Shall we go?”
The hologram could be typed on directly with the fingertips. Rutaganda moved his index finger and ticked a box on the troublesome watchtower that Yulia had silenced.
“The operation is on schedule.”
Rutaganda moved on foot, the Thai sniper Bun with a jetpack, the French Weber and the African Babangida with a reinforced exoskeleton.
Reinforced exoskeleton — the so-called powered suit. A two-legged, weaponised, armoured suit.
Total height 2.8 metres. One could say it looked like a steel troll. Omni-wheels on the legs and thrusters on the back allowed strong three-dimensional manoeuvrability on uneven ground and in urban areas. Armament consisted of a large-calibre autocannon mounted on the left arm, a multi-purpose guided missile on the shoulder and a rocket launcher.
The military power was sufficient to defeat the guerrillas.
The male tactical adviser known as D (Delta) and the female Japanese investigator known as J (Juliette).
5
It was evening at the rebels’ base camp — . The light in Kougami’s room faded into darkness.
Tsunemori used the bed and Kougami tried to sleep on a blanket on the floor.
Anyway, it was after they had fought their way through the battlefield. When he calmed down and thought about it, he felt exhausted.
The next morning, he had planned to discuss the further course of action with Sem.
Kougami Shinya and Tsunemori Akane. The strangely tense atmosphere between them couldn’t be erased. Only Tsunemori’s conscience was clear. No, she was too tired, so she was too sensitive, wasn’t she? Anyway, she couldn’t sleep, so she left Kougami’s room.
She looked out of the window of the covered corridor.
“Ah...”
There were probably only a few electrical generators. The guerrilla men lit real fires instead of lighting equipment. The same fires that men used a long time ago.
The night sky was amazingly beautiful.
The stars were crystal clear like gemstones. The guerrilla camp had few lights.
Speaking of the amount of light, such a bonfire was not even a tenth of a streetlamp used in Tokyo. With the ground so dark, the sky was easy to see.
“The sky is amazing,” Kougami had also stood up.
“The stars look like they might fall.”
“In Japan the ground is too bright.”
“And yet the convenience of electricity is useful, isn’t it?”
“Of course, that’s true. The scientific development itself is not bad. The problem is that science and technology are abused for the benefit of a minority.”
We met again after so long —
Kougami remained the same Kougami.
“So, in the end Gino has become an enforcer...?” Kougami murmured with a hint of regret.
“In the old days...popsan…Masaoka-san said ‘I don’t want to see Nobuchika fall and become an enforcer’. If I meet him again in the afterlife, I won’t be able to apologise.” “In such a case...”
“Kunizuka?”
“She’s the same as before... but her crime rate is tending to improve.”
“That’s good news... I suppose. Shion?”
“That person is always the same. She’s the real balancer of Division One.”
“...Kagari?”
“Nothing. He’s still missing.”
He’s not missing.
Kagari has been killed.
She knew that, but if she told him the truth, what would the Sibyl System do? Would it try to kill Kougami?
It had nothing to do with the escape abroad. Fighting the Sibyl System was one thing but knowing the truth about it...it was impossible...Sibyl couldn’t welcome that.
She couldn’t tell the truth... her chest felt so tight.
Still, she couldn’t allow Kougami to find out.
“…Is that so? And Professor Saiga?”
“He’s in seclusion, but he’s allowed to work as an important advisor.”
“So he’s alive, uh… ?”
Kougami smiled faintly.
“That’s a good thing.”
At these words, Akane was also lured into a smile.
...ah, that’s right.
Life is not bad.
“What do you think of me?”
Kougami asked.
“Are you angry with me?”
“If you had not killed Makishima...”
While thinking about the question, Tsunemori replied.
“Ginoza-san’s hue was getting worse. He might have become an enforcer just the same. Besides, even if Makishima had lived, you would have been eliminated, Kougami-san.”
... If that had been the case, I wouldn’t have really forgiven the Sibyl System.
“Therefore, there’s a good chance that your escape abroad... was the best decision. It’s annoying. I would have preferred you to stay more in Japan...”
“I think… I’m inexcusable.”
“The Kougami-san who stays with the guerrillas is so lively that it’s kind of annoying.” “Lively? Running here and there is nerve-wracking...”, Kougami frowned.
“And my mother is in Japan too...”
“Tomoyo-san, right?”
“Yes.”
“I visit her now and then. To take her mind off things, I guess.”
 “Thank you.”
“No...”
While saying this, Kougami had such a gentle look on his face.
“Astute”, Akane thought as she looked at him.
“What do you think of her? In my memory she’s a very strong person.”
“Really, she’s very strong. She never showed a weak face in front of me.”
“I can’t be in Japan. Then there are things to do here. It’s beyond my control... Human life is like that.”
Night fell. The bugs piled up around the fire, making a musical hum.
“Kougami-san, isn’t life precious?”
“No, it isn’t.”
“...”
“It’s not a matter of when we’ll die, it’s a matter of how we’ll die.”
The moment Kougami said this, Tsunemori could no longer stand it and burst out laughing.
“Pfff”
Just like that, growing steadily and holding her sides, she had a hearty laugh.
“What’s that for!?”
She had laughed like that a long time ago. From the bottom of her heart.
“Because,  Kougami-san...”
...because you said it the way I expected you to.
“No, it’s nothing.”
“How mean. Laughing out of the blue...”
Kougami, shrugging his shoulders, also laughed a little.
Tumblr media
The moment Tsunemori's laughter stopped...
“You have grown for good.”
Kougami whispered heartily.
“Is that so?”
Just the sound of those words made Akane feel embarrassed.
“You have the face of a good owner. You also have the face of a skilled hunter.”
“And you really are a stray dog now.”
“A stray dog, what a terrible thing to say.”
“Sure we meet like human beings now.”
“Yes, finally.”
“Isn’t it ironic? Even though we have met like human beings, as usual, a case comes between us.”
“It suits us, doesn’t it?”
So…. it’s a case. The reason why Tsunemori Akane has come here[5].
“One of the terrorists who came to Japan had a rare paper book with him. Proust’s ‘In search of lost time’”
“I bet it was mine. When Samurin was here, he loved to read it. I thought I’d lost it, but he must have taken it with him.”
“Earlier, too, that man called Sem... he said you showed him the way. Are you sure you haven’t become their spiritual leader and not just a tactical advisor?”
She didn’t know if he was aware of it, but Kougami had flinched with a rather displeased expression.
“To be honest, I don’t like it, and it doesn’t suit me either. But unwillingly, it seems that the guys here have been influenced too much by my words and behaviour.”
“Even if you don’t mean to, Kougami-san, you have a force like gravity that draws people to you. Well, it’s like Makishima Shougo.”
“...Do I look like that man to you?”
“You were able to predict Makishima’s next moves better than anyone else. It wouldn’t be strange if you had similar talents and character traits.”
“...at least when I was in Japan, my words never misled anyone. So why now?”
“Because you’ve changed the way you live your life. From one side of the system to the other. No matter how you feel about it, the place you’re standing now is not much different from the one Makishima Shougo stood before.”
“Are you saying that from now on I’ll become like Makishima?”
“No. But there will always be people looking for Makishima’s talents in you. People who are angry and frustrated with society are looking for something, an attractive force that they can trust. They may try to put you on a pedestal like they did with Makishima.”
“That’s annoying.”
“But you have no ambition to try to control people’s hearts. That’s the biggest difference between you and Makishima Shougo.”
Kougami couldn’t help but laugh at Tsunemori’s misunderstanding when she compared him to Makishima.
“If that’s what you thought of that man, then I understand why he’s giving me so much trouble.”
“Huh?”

Shinkane Week 2024:
DAY FOUR: Trick or Treat
"Come dine with us", served by Sybil.
(Brain cannibalism is always so cool for Psycho-pass. This is my tribute for a little horror. This was actually the first piece I planned while looking at the list. It took me way faster to draw, maybe I can catch up with the week. This is s2 Akane look. Kogami was going to be smoke made, but I could not figure out a good angle. I guess I could have draw a cigarette candle or something in there to illuminate the scene, but welp.
Kogami is wearing a blind fold because of symbolism or something. I still think about how funny it is that Akane has known about Sybil for at this point 8 years now, and I don't even think she talks to Mika about it. Despite of the fact, I think both of them probably have inklings of each other knowing. Thinking about how Akane entertained the thought of telling Kogami about the truth of Sybil in the 2015 movie novel version during her car ride with him, and I just want to scream and cry at the same time.
I love how sharp everyone looks in s2, very different from how round and soft everyone's design in s3. )

A detail about the Peacebreakers in Providence. (translated + spoilers)
Tumblr media
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Overseas Research Department Field Survey Team/Peace Breaker Official activity period: 2098/04~2113/04
A unit that obtains and manipulates information useful to Japan from other countries. Its main mission is to enter other countries, gather information, carry out sabotage operations, and provide weapons and operational support to anti-government organizations who support the Japanese government. Regarding anti-government support operations, operations were carried out through domestic third-party organizations
(Example 1). It has been confirmed that it was provided to and expanded to the government and rebel forces of the former Southeast Asian Union (commonly known as SEAUN) (see corresponding data 04231 for details). Through "monitoring"derived from [...] The members were selected from among the soldiers who belonged to the Special Forces of the National Defense Force, based on the Sibyl System's advanced decisions, and from among them, those who had a particularly strong sense of national pride were selected. Establishment: Wave After its establishment, the company did some original work. Main strategies and execution records. 2099_Conflict within the Union of Southeast Asia
2111_Rebellion in the Republic of South Asia 2112_Operation Footstamp 2113_Kona Island independence group reduced cropping Involved in etc. For details, see 67721 data
In June 2118, the decision was made to dismantle the unit, and in the same month, the whereabouts of the unit commander and training staff went missing.
In October 2118, independent activity was confirmed, and it was completely destroyed. To this day, it is said that its range has expanded to include Japan, Northern Russia, and the Russian Federation. Tonami is said to have been the general manager since the company's founding.

Multi-type labeling function installed on the front of the waist
***
Sibyl itself is promoting conflicts to expand itself, and then denying asylum to the refugees which is why they're confined to Dejima/Kyushu. Sibyl lets MFA do the dirty work and it's obvious that Sibyl just turns a blind eye to this because it benefits their colonisation approach. I wonder what Kogami's thoughts will be when he comes to realise that his "democratisation" in Siam Reap (Psycho Pass Movie) was just a part of Sibyl's grand plan. Also Kona Island? Didn't Rutaganda and his mercenaries live on an island? The knowledge that Sibyl would let the world suffer, after having seen the true effects of it in his journey abroad and that probably every person he met or lost on his journey (including the people that Tenzing lost) was suffering due to Sibyl's duplicity. In Case 3 Novel, Frederica is investigating the Peacebreakers in Tibet-Himalaya and Garcia by extension. Honestly, Kogami Shinya seeing the horrors of war, trying to help people and then returning to become a cog in the System is a tragic enough ending for me. I guess this was the meaning of that painting in that room. (The Abyss, I assume?)
Tumblr media
Anyhow, I'm on my fourth rewatch (first time with subs so thank god I can follow the dialogues), and Sibyl has a knack of grinding my gears (pun intended), I've come to despise the System as much as Kogami. I'll delve into a proper review later, for now just accept my ramblings. I have 10,000 thoughts on Akane too, who in this movie punched me right in the heart, honestly I don't know how Akane-chan is so strong. I admire her grit.

Ok I’m just gonna say it. My feelings about Kougami up to this point:
(Disclaimer: I have not seen PPP yet so my impressions are based on the spoilers and discussions that all the watchers have had, -and they are subject to change) - also trying to separate my shipper feelings from this but beware of my inherent bias anyway.
Season 1: Kougami is generally very warm and protective towards Akane. He doesn’t see her as a woman yet but they both validate each other to an unimaginable degree. I mean, she risked her life and psycho pass to help him track down Makishima who ppl believed was a ghost. She restored the credibility of his investigative abilities and made him actually think that there might be a better world without the structural divisions that they have. That didn’t stop him from breaking the law but it’s obvious that he especially thought very highly of her even after leaving the country.
Psycho Pass: The Movie: honestly, the movie is so enjoyable with regards to Kougami’s character development. He smiles at Akane so much in this movie, tries to get validation from her and again is really protective of her. They definitely pose Akane as more womanly and more as a equal with him - both in physical and mental abilities. She also impresses him several times in the film. He’s overall amused like “wow, she actually followed me all the way out here. What a woman”
SS Case 3: He sings praises of Akane ofcourse, even in the presence of an undeniable beauty like Frederica. If anything, we can contrast Frederica finding him to Akane finding him in the first movie, and his dialogue and body language alone show how he’s mildly annoyed by or at least resistant to Frederica’s presence. Most of his character arc here is in relation to Tenzing though which I suppose was supposed to teach him to be responsible for more than just himself(?), but that ends up being left open ended during his fight with Garcia (I mean he stabs the man to death before they can conclude the dialogue). Overall though, Kougami’s smiles are for Tenzing here and also when he’s saying that he’ll return to Japan.
Season 3 and First Inspector: He’s either all focused on the investigation at hand or with Akane. Everytime he smiles in this season- it’s for Akane! And not to mention, they don’t even really discuss work or philosophy in their interactions, but more about themselves and what they’ve missed from each other after being separated for years. This is what gave me hope that his emotional intelligence had improved and he would finally find some peace in Akane’s presence.
Providence: Based on what I’ve read, Kougami feels rather out-of-character in this. Like a weird blip in the timeline of his character arc. All the bonus scenes I saw anyway just made his interactions with Akane awkward. I didn’t expect it to be absolutely smooth but where’s the warmth that he initially had for this woman in S1 and the 1st movie??? What is this fuckboi behavior Kougami??? Maybe he’s able to make up for it in the 3rd act of Providence at least based on the notes I’ve read but he’s just so cold. Like he has a point to make?? I’m so confused. The tone of Providence is just cold in general and we keep seeing scenes where Ko and Akane are just on their own, never really together and communicating - the rain, the ice, the cold city drafts - just adds to it. But maybe the fact that S3 and PPFI comes after this gives us hope that he did get his act together and maybe visited her more and actually talked this out with her while she was in confinement. Maybe we’ll get some bonus scenes in a novel format.
I haven’t even seen PPP yet and I already need a season 4 to redeem Kougami’s character like what the hell. (And I’m sure the animation staff are exhausted and I don’t wanna encourage overworking them) - even if it’s like a measly 45 sec scene, I need to see the warm and caring Kougami again.
Providence looks phenomenal though - the team definitely outdid themselves - and I can’t wait to watch it.

question!!! About American Psycho since you got me curious but also I’m lowkey scared to pick it up how triggering is the novel or the movie like which do you think is easier? And which do you like more?
If you are triggered easily just skip both. The novel is a thousand times worse than the movie and there is no Christian Bale or funny music to offset the gory shit in there.
The movie isn’t a total slash fest and it’s really more focused on the dark comedy and satire than the killings, and most of the horrendous shit from the books is not present in the movie (rat…. ifykyk) Patrick also says lots of slurs in the book and you get a clearer picture of his feelings and also if you don’t like a certain guy in a certain big house that is white being mentioned, the book is extra not gonna do it for you.
Also, although the movie cuts out a lot of the crazier gore and horror it’s still happening and Patrick makes it clear that he’s torturing women for example because they’re women. You’re gonna have to be cool with a lot of things real freaking quick 😔
For me personally I can stomach the movie more and it’s easier to drop and get into versus an almost 400 page book. The novel despite its very triggering content I think is very impactful and I also find it’s aided by Ellis’s other novels. If you didn’t know!! His books all exist in one universe and Patrick didn’t actually first appear in American Psycho, but Rules of Attraction, where his younger brother, Sean, is the main character (if you do read both novels they each have a chapter dedicated to the other brother). It’s a pretty neat way to see how Sean’s behavior contrasts with Patrick’s, but yeah, most of them are gonna be very triggering and they focus on very rich people doing very terrible things while on some stuff.
Neither the book or the movie are easy to try so just take a moment to think about it? I’d say. I think it’s one you can just pass on, while I certainly enjoy it it’s not something I’d consider ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY TO TRY you can rest easy never looking at it lmaooo.
Anyways I’ve gotta return some video tapes bye <3

Hi.... If you don't mind me asking, can I ask, what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series/games/etc) and your top 10 favorite characters from any media ? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this questions....
sure, thanks for asking! my top favorite characters don't necessarily correspond to my top favorite media so it's great we're differentiating them.
top 10 favorite media (in no particular order):
never let me go by kazuo ishiguro (novel) — this one is a slow burn, a bit heartbreaking. I still don't know how to describe the feeling the story left me with. it's like... contemplative, and bittersweet? there is also a movie version as well; watch it if you want to see andrew garfield screaming.
orpheus and eurydice (greek myth) — what can I say? it's tragic, but the love was there. it's tragic because there was love. I like any media that touches on their story. hadestown is probably the most popular, but I'd like to recommend eurydice by aucoin and ruhl.
the good place (tv show) — funny, genuinely good story, has a lot of heart. love kristen bell in it. there's also a podcast from the cast talking about the behind the scenes.
you're the worst (tv show) tbh I think it's just because one of the characters reminds me of my ex, so some of the scenes felt extremely personal lmao. also, I watched the season 3 finale during a breakup, which is the worst time to watch that scene. but it's genuinely a fascinating show about "terrible" people getting into relationships. tackles some heavy topics, has some dark humor. season 4 was kind of a mess, but the way they ended this show in season 5 is exactly how I think it should've ended.
the world ends with you (video game) — the ideal way to experience this game is to play it as a teenager or young adult, like specifically at that age range (but later on is fine too).
nier automata (video game) — love when video games talk to me (the player). love games whose story can only exist as a game. did you know you can go through the amusement park level without killing a single machine except for the boss fight? also, there's a youtube video of the english voice actors reading the concert script.
gravity rush (video game) — it's a shame the studio behind this was shut down. it was such a unique game to me, and the world building is fascinating. falling around as kat and exploring the world felt relaxing and fun.
shinsekai yori (anime/novel) — this was originally a novel (there's a translation here) but I first experienced it through the anime adaptation. it's not the kind of story that's my favorite because I watched it a bunch of times. I only watched it once or twice, but the story still stayed with me, and it made me contemplate on the consequences of empathy. I watched it at the same time as psycho pass, and tbh I think that's a pretty good way to watch it. you appreciate both series more when comparing them. the novel translation I linked is pretty good too.
dishonored (video game) — 11/10 art direction, stealth mechanics, world building. it's just a really fun game. I wish fortiche (studio that animated the arcane series) could make a dishonored animation, but alas
link click (donghua) — might be recency bias since I'm currently obsessed with this show, although I've been watching it since 2021. but it's such a fun... experience, I would say? the story itself is great, but the experience of engaging with it makes me feel like johnny truant from house of leaves sometimes. idk, I'm kinda insane about this show atm. but I think that's the ideal experience; you gotta be insane about this show to get the most out of it
top 10 favorite characters (in no particular order)
edmund and lucy pevensie (chronicles of narnia, c.s. lewis) — technically cheating since this is two characters. whatever. they're the heart of this series, to me
emma woodhouse (emma, jane austen) — tbh I need to read more austen books besides emma and pride and prejudice. but emma is really so wonderfully flawed and entertaining. she thinks she's soooo clever. I like that about her. also this book is such a delight because it's just a bunch of characters who think they're clever at the regency era social game. plus the movie version stars anya taylor-joy. she's great. I love her
namine (kingdom hearts) — she's in my url, after all. re:com was actually my first kh game. kh can't end without sora thanking her
kisa tachibana (jack jeanne) — otome heroine, but it's important to realize that I think she's a weird theater girl (affectionate) who heavily uses avoidance (through theater!) as a coping mechanism. you will not get this from the game except for like, one scene. there are some hints of this in the side materials. but yeah this is like. a very specific interpretation of her, probably not even the intended interpretation for her. also, she's got gender thoughts that I wish she'd interrogate for herself, but she won't, but that's what also makes her interesting imo
shen yuan (svsss) — if there's ever a guy you'd want to put their brain under a microscope, it's him
cheng xiaoshi (link click) — studio lan researched how to create "sincere guy you'd want to protect" and perfected it in cheng xiaoshi. big heart, an actual angel. but he's actually really clever, if people would just let him exercise that cleverness
kaneki ken (tokyo ghoul) — another character whose arc is "kindness leads to tragedy." hm. (also: I like haise and his relationship with arima. this is important for you to understand what I like about kaneki)
lelouch vi brittania (code geass) — I was this close to putting cg in my top 10 media list, especially for the poetry of its ending. but tbh it's the characters that make it great. some aspects of the show did not age well. but anyway. he's one of the best characters to have been created in anime imo, but most people nowadays know him from the soup store meme
wanderer (genshin impact) — genshin's writing fluctuates in quality, but they truly knocked it out of the park with wanderer. and his story isn't even over yet! (he's got the albedo/durin plotline and dottore plotline to follow up on)
shuichi saihara (danganronpa V3) — (major spoilers for the game incoming) favorite dr protagonist. actually feels like I'm a detective when playing him. love the trust/doubt and truth/lie theme going on. dr protagonist who doesn't push for hope as the answer against despair. dr protagonist who lies and commits perjury in court. dr protagonist whose game plan was to ask everyone in the final trial to commit group suicide with him to end the danganronpa franchise. we don't know if he's actually a "real" person, or a scripted one. he's great, but you have to go through DR1 and SDR2 to truly appreciate him imo (you cannot play V3 as your first danganronpa game)
honorable mention to yin yu from tgcf. he couldn't make it to the top 10, but he's up there. tgcf is my least favorite of the three mxtx novels, but yin yu is one of the realest and most human characters mxtx has written, imho.

I had been a Psycho-Pass fan since the anime premiered in 2012, but I disconnected myself of the series after the first movie. I'm still waiting to see Providence, so I can't judge until I see it by myself but reading how Kougami seems more emotionless leaves me....worried that the new writers have made him like that so they could push their "no romance" agenda in the series. It also makes me miss Urobuchi: say whatever what you want about the man, but a thing I always had loved about him is how he never was afraid to make his stoic and cold characters shown a vulnerable side of them and break the mask when they are confronted with losing those they care for - for what I read on his portrayal of Kiritsugu in the Fate/Zero light novels as well Homura Akemi in Madoka Magica - which leaves me wondering how he would had handled Kougami and his interactions with Akane if he had written Providence. Maybe is the Shinkane shipper and UroGen fan in me that feels doubly dissapointed, but still I'll wait to see the movie to form my opinion.
Ugh, this is so true. I feel like sometimes they see Kogami as this overused hyper-macho trope who is unable to express anything, and he's masculine, sure, but he's also sensitive and introspective. That's what made him interesting in S1. He cared about Kunizuka, about Sasayama. He was pissed as hell when he suspected Kagari had been killed. He cared about Masaoka.
I agree and suspect what you say is true. The writers are terrified of any whiff of romance in Psycho-Pass. That's why they gave up on the subtleties of any relationship and compensate with guns, fights and explosions. But if everyone is just "there", what are the stakes? Why should we care if someone dies since there's no relationship developed between the characters?
It would've been interesting to see Kogami struggle with the possibility of being close to someone. Being clumsy and stupid because he has no experience, but trying to connect with Gino and with Akane. Make an effort. And then see all of them finally reconnect in a way. They had it all set up with the Sinners of the System movies. I don't know what happened there.
I also wish Urobuchi would've contributed to Providence. He would have killed half the cast, but now Psycho-Pass feels too safe. No real risk. No dramatic peaks. I don't think we will see anything of the level of Yuki and Ko in the killing subterranean maze, or Akane hitting Makishima with a helmet, or the psychopathic perversions of the rich. It's not that show anymore without Urobuchi.
Please share your thoughts when you watch the movie! It'll be interesting to see how everyone interprets what's going on.

I can't tell you how much I love Ubukata Tow's writing! He wrote the series Mardock Scramble and Soukyuu no Fafner, he wrote the screenplay for Human Lost (a sci-fi version of Dazai Osamu's novel No Longer Human). and he has been writing for Psycho-Pass since season 2. All of these are my favorite sci-fi anime because I fell in love with Ubukata Tow's style. The characters are relatable and complex, the dystopian worlds he created are intriguing, he uses a good amount of symbolism from various cultures and religions, and he tackles some pretty heavy themes in a way that makes me see the world of the anime and reality from a new perspective. You really don't find psychological writing like this very often.
When I went to see Psycho-Pass: Providence today in theaters I was excited mostly because I knew Ubukata Tow had written the story. But even though I'm a fan and I'm familiar with a lot of his work, I was still blown away by the writing in this movie! I love the series, but I'd dare to say Providence is the best addition to the series so far. It had everything I loved about the characters, the dystopian world dominated by the Sibyl System, the psychological crime plot line, the thrilling action scenes, and all the twists and turns. The fact that Providence had it all packed into a movie instead of an anime season, it had everything I loved from the first two seasons and set up season 3 perfectly, and the pacing didn't feel rushed! I really have to hand it to Ubukata Tow-sensei. He nailed it with this movie!

Psycho-pass translations Update
Hi everyone, it's been a while since I last posted Psycho-pass content.
I'm also sorry if anyone was looking for my old translations and couldn't find them. There was no problem with the URL or anything like that. I simply moved the posts to private mode because I wanted to give the chapters a quick revision and reconnect the threads of the story so far...and that's what I did.
I cancelled almost all the posts with partial translations and will only keep the complete chapters active.
I finished chapter 6, which I had left half done, and from now on I will translate the next chapters until the end of the book.
You can find the index with all my translations pinned on top of my blog. At the moment, only the Psycho-pass Movie novel has working links. Once finished that, I will revise and repost Utopia hound too.
For the moment, that’s all.
Bye

Shinkane/Fredegami Analysis
[Disclaimer: The views & opinions expressed on this post does not necessarily reflect the PPC's character represention]. 🤗
Now let's delve into...
Shinkane
Tumblr media
Season 1 shows us the obvious reasons that lead us to think any romantic possibilities of Shinya x Akane. As mentioned in my previous post From Shinkane to ShizuAka.
And the release of 劇場版 PSYCHO-PASSサイコパス fueled our interest even more. 😍❤️‍🔥
Fredegami
It all started in this scene from Psycho Pass: Sinners of the System 3.
Tumblr media
Where Frederica openly flirts with Kogami (as described in the novels) and expresses her interest about him. Kogami was indeed mesmerized by this beauty.
The Comparison:
As hurtful as it may sound. Shinkane is one-sided. Let's face it and be honest.
The showcase of Shinya x Frederica is intentional for Psycho-Pass Providence movie.
The Story Debunked:
After the events of 1st Movie. Kogami seemed to step away further from Akane & the whole Div. 1 as advised by Ginoza.
The latter did that for the sake of Akane, seeing how Kou's influence affected her deeply. And as he explained further in the boat scene from PPP. He wants to prevent Akane from being a latent criminal which Kou fell into.
Kogami met Frede in Tibet-Himalaya Kingdom, after she cases for him (probably after the events of SS3 where she was first introduced). Akane might have initiated it to help bring back Kogami since she wasn't successful in SEAUn.
Kou begins to ease-up (not necessarily open up) with Frede seeing how dedicated she is to her work in MoFA and how she is a potential good leader judging by how she work as girl boss.
In PPP, Kou still care for Akane but it's obvious he starts to give Frederica a chance. Thinking about how she was used by Yabuki to intentionally lie (Saiga's ultimate downfall).
In Kogami's head, Frederica is amazingly tough but also a soft woman from the inside. Which is why he sided with her after Yabuki's death.
Being with her in the dark room, tagging her along the rescue mission. Wearing the same coat. Plus and the most striking, is the fact that he let Frederica say out loud "ME AND KOGAMI WILL JOIN AKANE TSUNEMORI"
Also, [I believe] the events of PP3 Manga; (the Hotpot, & the Gun sparring) happened before Akane's release and the events of Psycho Pass 3 and before Azusawa-kun introduction and the BiFrost. Which shows a somewhat sweet interaction between the two.
But the events of FI happened, and Kou realized that Frede isn't as fragile as he thinks she is.
So he somehow wants to mend his connection with Akane by picking her up from the Tokorozawa Correction Center.
The Ship Analysis
Kogami & Frederica might've feel some spark after the events of SS3.
They might've gave it a try which leads to their closeness in PPP movie and Few chapters from PP3 Manga (which again I believe happened before the BiFrost narrative).
But during and amidst the BiFrost incident, Kogami might've realized Frederica is similar to his ideals. Accepting bribe for the sake of Justice.
Note: There's one thing that the online translator failed to translate which not all fans (who upload their copy of the manga/novel) easily realized. It is about the tone.
In the Season 3, after Kou beat the heck up from Kei, he received the instructions from Frede to let Azusawa-kun escape to which he obliges BUT with a tired (and almost fed-up) tone.
So eventually they slowly and silently fell apart. And intend not to pursue any chances of relational progress. They've kept their professional closeness but slip through any possibility of building a solid chemistry.
Therefore, Kogami gradually re-establish his Season 1 connection with Akane. By showing up in a car and let her decide where to eat just like the old times.
Because deep inside, Kogami longs to have a solid source of affection eventhough he can't explicitly admit it to himself. That's one thing Frederica called him off during their conversation about the Cigarette puff (where it conveys too much love or less affection received from childhood).
At one point, he might've think that Frede was the one. Same age, badass beauty but soft and tender inside. I think that's the type woman Kou likes. But he finally realized Frede is a well-established woman who doesn't need his protection.
P.S
The views/opinions expressed on this post are based from what I read from the Manga/Novel and anime SS3/FI/PPP source materials. With the characters's perspective in mind. You may take it with a grain of salt to which you are very much welcome 😉.
All in all, let's just wait for Season 4 shall we? 💕🥰😊🤗 It might have more revelations.

Reading PP Providence spoilers has depressed me. I have mixed feelings about the movie, I suppose I can have a proper think about it only after I see the movie (it’s not available yet in my country). Read ahead at your own risk of being spoiled. This is a vent/commentary.
Shinya being a reckless fool is consistent enough…I’m pretty sure I’m going to break down crying during some of his scenes, especially the ones with Saiga. I am hoping for some Kou Gino content as well, the tension between my best boys has me nervous. I am curious to see how it turns out, the tension could be felt between them in S3 so we don’t know if it’s fully resolved or not. I know that Ginoza has a right to be angry at Shinya and my heart goes out for those two, their relationship was complicated from the start. The prodigal son returning to face those he left behind, it’s obvious that people are angry at him.
About Shinya especially, apart from the fact that he’s weighed down by the ghost of Makishima, depressed and losing his sense of purpose, being used as a tool for war and being haunted by multiple deaths and wars, being turned from a detective to a killing machine it is a tragic journey. From some of the stuff I read in S3 novels and Gino’s reaction to their reunion, Shinya must be feeling incredibly alone. But is he ever going to heal? Knowing that Professor Saiga is dead and that Shinya goes to jail for killing Tonami… I don’t know if that’s even possible. There was no mention of Makishima’s ghost either but I like to think he’s still being haunted, after all Sinners Case 3 and Providence occur back to back.
As for Akane’s part, I’m more concerned that she took that step to shoot Kasei I do not understand her reasoning yet but I can understand her grief and anguish. She’s suffered, losing her friend, her grandma and she’s faced with the inability of doing anything against the System while working under it.
But the whole Atsushi Shindo angle strikes me as strange. In S3 novel translation, Akane is typing out her reflections about the System, from the very beginning I felt that Kei and Arata were planted by Akane because it’s a part of her plan to bring down the System by replacing it with something better, and I ventured a guess that the System caught on and this was why she was imprisoned but with Providence spoilers I am confused as to why that was never her goal and she took such an action. The plot doesn’t make sense to me yet.
Her motivations and beliefs turning to a degree where she violates the law for her personal sense of justice strikes me as odd and uncharacteristic. Because make no mistake, Shinya and Akane though have a similar outlook on the System react to it in very different ways.
Shinya uses his rage against the System to rebel against it. His sense of justice is deeply personal and rooted in his emotions and he’d rather bear the burden of his sin of killing alone than have anyone else share it for him. He’d repeatedly break the law and handle things his way.
Akane uses her judgment, her intuition of ethics in the law to make her decisions. Her process is slow but it’s fuelled by her conviction alone of what the law truly is. Not the systems or the provisions but the collective belief of people and she knows that using violence against violence will only create more chaos.
Which is why it strikes me as odd that Akane of all people would take this step. Regardless, she technically avenged Kagari. I also somewhat dislike the fact that Shinya is required to step in and protect her, because I believe Akane is strong enough to protect herself (2015 Akane and Sinners of the System Akane is my favourite) Shinya was not by her side all this time and she suddenly isn’t a damsel in distress…in any manner of speaking. From the context of the spoilers it might be that the story is a commemoration of S1 Psycho Pass so there are multiple parallels and callbacks to S1.
Other than that, I’m curious about the Stronskaya document, how does it tie in with being a threat to Sibyl? S3 had no mention of this, with all the crazy things going with Bifrost so are these two related? Or is this document a way to put an end to the System that the Peacebreakers tried to exploit?
Have they elaborated about the MFA’s motivations? Frederica is someone that I am extremely curious about especially since she talked about changing the shape of the world and has previous enforcer’s affected by the System working for her. From the workings in Sinners, I felt as though the MPSWB and MFA had come to an agreement to phase out the System without alerting it. I believed that was why Hanashiro scouted Shinya, so that he could aid her with his skills to bring an end to Sibyl.
Saiga in Providence does state that: Justice has many sides.
Since the very beginning our protags pursued their own interpretation of justice and the law. We see Ginoza trying not become like his father but ultimately becoming a victim to the System, loyally helping out Akane and staying by her side to keep an eye on her. We see Akane trying to reform the System by leading a team of Inspectors and Enforcers that’s based on trust and respect, on treating latent criminals like humans. We see Shinya giving in to his personal sense of justice, fuelled by his sense of pride and betrayal at the System for failing Sasayama, because it let someone like Makishima get away.
What I want to see is the dynamic between the MPSWB and the MFA, working to take down the System and the deeply philosophical questions to still underline the plot. That is the Psycho Pass that I ended up enjoying.
I’ll be clear, I’m not a fan of shipping…(yes I self-ship but that is a different matter. I do it for my enjoyment) I’m more interested in the dynamics between the Golden Trio and the deep rooted reflections on society and human life, A.I and socio-political criticisms and the personal philosophies of the characters.
Okay vent over. On another note, will we ever get to see an interaction between Shinya and his mom? Is Tomoyo ever going to scold her brat of a son for putting his friends through such pain? For running away? Despite all his faults I also want him to feel some affection and love and feel validated, my man is too depressed, the smoking and drinking is going to end him soon regardless, if the guns don’t get to him first.
Shinya is such an idiot.

MY REVIEW ON PSYCHO PASS PROVIDENCE- part 2
SOME ISSUES (and THOUGHTS) THAT I NEED TO ADDRESS:
I still don’t get the reason why Prof. Saiga and Prof. Stronskaya made the paper. What are they aiming with that? Did I miss something? And conflict coefficient is too much like crime coefficient. This is personal reason, but honestly conflict coefficient is much more reasonable than Sybil. At least, they don’t judge based on how cloudy people are.
I like Saiga and Kougami relationship, and for once we get to see Kougami use Keigo.
No hate, but idk some people debate over Kougami calling Frederica by her name. Akane also called her like that too, except she always use -san, like she did with Shion-san. Kougami also address Shion with her name and nothing happen. He’s just comfortable with both of them, I think. (idk how close they were, need novel)
Why Azusawa never appear on this movie? I thought since we don’t know anything about him in PP3 we somehow have explanation in PPP, with Shindou especially. Well, I despise PP3 anyway, pls don’t ask me why. I appreciate PP staff work tho.
Sugo is cute, loyal hound to his inspector. He’d make quick call, inform anything suspicious to Akane.
I find it funny Kougami act childish in this scenes:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He clearly keep his distance from Akane and div 1 after he and Akane’s convo late night call, even Saiga asked him. He only dare to look at her face again after their body almost exploded with c4, meanwhile Akane from the first time act as if nothing happen. Nice writing, I guess.
Until PPP, I think so many characters have died. And their death is almost have no meaning nor progress to the story (yet with Saiga’s case). PP is dystopian anime, I get it, the story is dark and tragic, I get it, but why they shown so many death after s1? No, it’s not meaningless, it’s actually create situation or drama (for ex Sugo killed Aoyanagi), but not with audience. They don’t make us fully feel related or attachment to the character, but suddenly they’re gone. (like entire div 3 on PP2.) This is just personal opinion, but Saiga’s death is kind of ashamed, they shouldn’t just kill him as a mere bait for Peacebreaker, it’s too bad. There’s so much potential to his character in the future instalment if they ever make one  :’(
Akane running away to fallen Saiga is kinda throw me off. Why not help Kougami or Frederica first? This is out of character. The old Akane would never.
I like that Akane bursts in front of Kougami in elevator scene. When it’s just the two of them, she actually lower her wall because in my case, I never want to cry in public or in front of strangers. Well, she cried near the fountain holo before though, but you get the point.
Kougami sympathy to Akira.
Akira is precious, that’s it. Everyone who watch it already know why.
Just for a brief second, I can see Akane’s eyes shaking when she heard Kougami’s tone on the call. She must be aware he’s in pain.
The scene where Tonami had possessed Akira, Akane could have done so much more or at least TRY something. Where’s the badass Akane we always adore?
Akane always have puppy eyes for one man and one man only. Guess who?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those puppy eyes can kill me.
Also, I find this script is irrelevant. In the hospital, first Akane relief that Kougami is unhurt, then suddenly he said ‘my mistake’? Why is he suddenly apologize, lmao.
Sybil is a bitch. After Yabuki and Shindo’s tasks done, they told Shindo to just die. Sigh.
I HATE that Tonami has low CC. In s1, we only learn that people with low CC can’t even commit crimes except being asymptomatic, and suddenly this new villain who basically terrorist has clear hue just because he feel sympathy to low life and wants fairness for them (cmiiw). He kill people for God’s sake! This shows inconsistence of writing and will create plot hole in the future. And for Akane’s case, I tolerate it probably because Kasei isn’t actually human.
Akane is so strong, she has been shot twice by Tonami, yet she can speak clearly, even sit. Meanwhile we can find waver in Kougami’s voice on that call (he only get one bullet on his thigh.)
I find this interesting.
Tumblr media
Akane is NOT aware that Tonami is about to shoot her. If she knows, would she see Kougami’s sin differently? But after much thought, I think it’s still wouldn’t change a thing, because she wants to arrest Tonami. But dude, Kougami shoots because he can’t lose her, if he shoots his leg or hand or whatever, anything could happen and Akane would’ve been died. If I were him, I’ll shoot his head also without hesitation. I wonder if she understand that she’s at stake.
Who transfer Sugino to SAD? Akane?
Imagine Kougami’s feeling when he can’t do anything to stop Akane. Wow.
Akane’s decision to do that is actually admirable, she honour Shindo and Akira’s death.
This is the end of my chattering. I hope I’m not seen for being a pathetic shipper. I love psycho pass as anime.

Less Than Zero
Tumblr media
Director Marek Kanievska Stars Andrew McCarthy, Robert Downey Jr, Jamie Gertz, James Spader USA 1988 Language English 1hr 38mins Colour
Oooh, aren’t these rich kids screwed up? Tsk, tsk
For a few minutes at the start, it’s possible to believe that this movie’s stinking reputation was undeserved, that like, say, Absolute Beginners, it’s worth a more sympathetic look now that time has passed… A college kid somewhere in America’s snowy east gets a phone call, The Bangles’s propulsive cover of Hazy Shade Of Winter accompanies him as he flies back to LA, goes to his huge midcentury family home and then to a party that has been decorated with (nothing could be more ’80s) hundreds of TVs.
Tumblr media
If Andrew McCarthy always had a somewhat blank screen presence, that’s maybe OK for one of those observer/narrator characters. James Spader as a suave coke dealer who calls people ‘old sport’ is just about perfect. Jamie Gertz at least wears the clothes impeccably. And who could be more suited to playing a charming, indulged addict than Robert Downey Jr, a man whose career somehow survived his many substance-fuelled fuck-ups? (We’ll get back to that.)
But, alas, this movie does stink. In two different ways, one of which matters more than the other. It stinks as an adaption of Bret Easton Ellis’ novel, adding a clunky sense of morality, turning the main character, Clay, from a kid who very slowly comes to realise how much his time at a New England college has left him out of sync with his old friends to a prissy guy who arrives in judgement mode. It forces BEE’s drifty, episodic book into a simple, finger-wagging story about two boys, a girl and the dangers of DRUGS.
Tumblr media
Just say no, kids
That it very much isn’t the book – and frankly, there was no way that anything resembling the novel could have been made by a Hollywood studio in the mid-80s* – isn’t a fatal flaw. There are unfaithful adaptations that are good films. But it’s worth asking what you would want to take from the novel: as I’ve said, it doesn’t have a story structure that lends itself to conventional filmmaking, nor are the characters carefully constructed.
What made the book such a phenomenon – and believe me, people went nuts about it (and I was one of them) – was the way the distinctive present-tense prose style immersed the reader in this world of numb, spoilt, rich brats who are sensation-seeking but not sensation-finding because nothing, it turns out, is so screwed-up it actually manages to wake them up.  When I read it, aged 15, I wasn't sure whether it was any good or not but I did know that no writer – not even Raymond Chandler – had insinuated their rhythms and phrasing into my thought train so completely. Whenever I read a couple of chapters of the book, my brain would shift into continuous flat narration for the rest of the day.
Tumblr media
One of the many excellent decisions Mary Harron made in her great adaptation of Ellis’ American Psycho is understanding that we need the writing, that without the sensibility of the prose this is a just a horrible story about a rich guy murdering people that tells us nothing.  I’m not sure that having Clay narrating would fix Less Than Zero, but I do know that without it much of what makes the book work has gone.
Tumblr media
And so what do we have in its place? In LTZ-the-movie, Clay (McCarthy) is summoned home during the Christmas holidays by Blair (Gertz), his ex-girlfriend. He’s thinking she might want to get back with him, but in fact she’s worried about Julian (Downey), Clay’s bestie but also the guy Blair left Clay for. Will Clay forgive them both? Can they help Julian, whose bottomless appetite for freebasing coke has him 50G in hock to the elegant but dangerous Rip (Spader)?
They go to lots of clubs and spend much time driving through the LA night in Clay’s vintage Chevy Corvette. There are a couple of terrible, terrible 1980s movie sex scenes. Parents just don’t understand. Clay disapproves – he would be pouting but I’m not sure McCarthy’s tiny mouth can manage a pout.
Tumblr media
And Downey is incredibly annoying. God, is he annoying. He’s this whirlwind of puckish energy, constantly doing something to remind us he’s on screen. He’s as overactive as McCarthy is inert. Considering that to some extent, Downey was the guy he’s playing, it might be true to life. But it’s pretty near unwatchable.
Some of it looks pretty. Gertz gets some good outfits, as do McCarthy and Spader. Some of the songs on the Rick Rubin-masterminded soundtrack are great, some very much not. But the story is so clumsy, so basic and so obvious.
Tumblr media
The director is Marek Kanievska, who I will willingly say I had never heard of. Before this, though, he had directed Another Country, a film about gay Marxists at a posh British boys school in the 1930s starring Rupert Everett and Colin Firth, and which – perhaps ironically – had its biggest impact encouraging the fashion for interwar clothes and hair styles. And that’s a pro-gay film, at least by 1980s standards, whereas LTZ-the-movie is homophobic – making Clay, who is casually bisexual in the book, aggressively straight and seeming to suggest that the sex-with-men aspect is one of the main issues why the fact that Julian is turning tricks is disturbing. I wonder if the director started this with very different intentions.
So, then, no, this is not a lost classic. Its reputation as a classic instance of Hollywood taking a book and forcing it into both an ill-fitting structure and an unnuanced moral stance is well-earned. Not even a fun, trashy watch, even.
*This film, the thoroughly sanitised version of the story, still got an 18 certificate in the UK; in the US it was an R at a time when studios certainly did not dabble in X-ratings.
