one of my favourite aspects of supernatural that you very rarely see in paranormal shows is that sam and dean are already versed in the world they live in. there’s no sudden discovery of ghosts and demons and now they have to learn about them along with the audience; they are born into it and already know all about it. it allows the audience to follow their personal story instead of also trying to figure out this new world and its rules
the first season is full of knowledge we never see them learn; “w*ndigoes are in the minnesota woods or- or northern michigan. i’ve never even heard of one this far west.” […] “great. well then this [his gun] is useless.” (1x02), “you don’t break a curse. you get the hell out of its way.” (1x08), d: “it’s a god. a pagan god, anyway.” […] “the annual cycle of its killings? and the fact that the victims are always a man and a woman. like some kind of fertility right.” […] s: “the last meal. given to sacrificial victims. d: “yeah, i’m thinking a ritual sacrifice to appease some pagan god.” (1x11)
almost every episode in the first season is a monster they’ve faced before that they then explain to the audience in a way that should feel patronising; like it’s the same speech given over and over again but instead, the audience almost feels included in the knowledge. it’s stated with such an innate confidence and comfort in said knowledge that it feels like we already knew it too; “spirits and demons don't have to unlock doors. if they want inside, they just go through the walls.” […] “the claws, the speed that it moves; could be a skinwalker, maybe a black dog.” (1x02), “it's biblical numerology. you know noah's ark, it rained for forty days. the number means death.” (1x04), “no no no, not the reaper, a reaper. there's reaper lore in pretty much every culture on earth, it goes by 100 different names.” […] “you said it yourself that the clock stopped, right? reapers stop time. and you can only see 'em when they're coming at you which is why i could see it and you couldn't.” (1x12)
they already know and, at least in the first season, already have what they need to kill whatever they’re hunting; already know to salt and burn bones for spirits, fire for a w*ndigo, exorcisms for demons, a silver bullet to the heart for shapeshifters. there’s only three times in the entire first season that they run into something new to them; 1x14 when sam gets his first vision that leads him to another psychic, 1x16 when dean calls caleb for help on the sigil he put together and he tells him about daevas, and 1x20 when they find out vampires are real- and they only don’t know that bc john thought they were hunted to extinction and not worth mentioning
(there’s also technically two half instances if you count one of them knowing something the other doesn’t - sam figuring out the tulpa in 1x17 and dean already knowing about the shtriga in 1x18 - but those still rely on sam and dean having prior knowledge)
even when they’re uncertain about facing something, it’s not bc they don’t know what it is; it’s precisely bc they know what it is and acknowledge that it’ll be a difficult hunt (“i don't know, man. this isn't our normal gig. i mean, demons, they don't want anything, just death and destruction for its own sake. this is big. and i wish dad was here.” 1x04)
so much of the tension in paranormal shows typically comes from the main character(s) not knowing what is happening to them/the people around them and having to find out how to resolve it. supernatural is unique in that it operates more like a police procedural. the tension comes from solving the clues and identifying patterns to figure out who (what) the killer is and intercepting before they can take another victim
it’s such a different tone to go for when compared to other shows that came both before, during, and after its run. it sets sam and dean on even footing with each other since they both have the same knowledge going in, and it puts them in a place of authority usually reserved for an outside character
the shows i compare spn to most is charmed, buffy and teen wolf; every main character in those shows are brought into the paranormal world knowing nothing, putting them on the same level as the audience, and they have their mc interact with others already knowledgeable about that world in order to overcome their problem/monster of the week. the audience organically learns about this new world as the characters learn about it. it’s a sound writing strategy that prevents “as we already know”-style exposition but something that complicates it is if your world building isn’t unique or intriguing enough, this slow introduction can become boring
we’ve seen shows like these before; sitting through the same tropes of characters learning to use their powers, struggling with no longer feeling normal/relating to the regular world around them, and not knowing how much they can trust the people already involved in this new world gets repetitive. all three shows eventually reach the same level of comfort with their new world that spn starts with but if the characters aren’t enough to draw you in, you can end up dropping it before they reach that point (and often, before the overarching plot can really kick in and evolve the show beyond the villain of the week format)
it’s the superhero origin movie in tv format; dragged out and overplayed. dropping the audience into an established world of course comes with its own problems but you also have the benefit of pre-existing established character dynamics that let the audience slot in like they’ve always been there instead of just getting to know all the characters while the characters also get to know each other
sam and dean already knowing about the supernatural lets the audience immediately get to the core of the story; the conflict between sam and dean, the search for their father, and the mystery of what killed their mother
#i could go on forever theres literally so many examples#dean figuring the ‘two dark doubles’ is a shapeshifter sam figuring out the changing ghost is a tulpa#also peak how many of these examples come from dean despite them pushing so hard for sam to be the one knowing hunting theory#this format is why i cant stand watching the first season of charmed despite loving it so much#i just cant be bothered watching them have the same struggle ive seen a hundred times play out again#different genre but sons of anarchy does this well too; all the characters are already in the club life and already have inner conflict#spn having such a natural introduction makes me so glad they didnt go with the original plan of sam not knowing about hunting#that wouldve been Painful#watching spn so young has really shaped my view of media bc i legit cant stand things with a learning curve#give me an established world damnit#lord of the rings never stops to explain what a dwarf is! you just go with it! and it rules!#dean is just as theoretical and lore savvy as sam and id go as far to say he actually knows more#instead of trying to do this bullshit brains v brawn divide they shouldve done new tech vs analogue#sams laptop is famous and he also knows how to hack thing where the second dean doesnt know something he defaults to books#have dean be the one where if its written down he can find it almost like a proto bobby#they even kind of support that by him being the one to find the phoenix in s6 when they go through all their books#but this was 2005 and characters could only be so conplex and theyd already decided dean needed to be the hot one and sams the nerd one#side note how many of these metas am i going to write on this rewatch? tbd#side side note included all the quotes and episode numbers makes me feel so academic#coming out of my cage and ive been doing just fine.txt#carry on my wayward son#talk meta to me#meta#supernatural meta#spn#supernatural#dean winchester#sam winchester#save post

AU where Jonathan Sims, Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, London, keeps getting statements about this weird tiny town in Michigan called, Hatchetfield. Said statements include people talking about the events of Perky’s Buds and Jane’s a Car, alongside NPMD because that's the only Hatchetfield stage show where people actually survived. He’s half-convinced that Hatchetfield isn't a real place, and these statements are Tim and his coworkers playing an elaborate prank on him. I mean, it just seems ridiculous. Weed smoking psychic birds? A man fucking his car? The vengeful ghost of some highschool bully seeking vengeance on every “nerdy prude” that's ever lived? It's absurd, really.
So, when he finally caves and looks up Hatchetfield online, imagine his surprise when he learns that it's a real town that he can visit. Queue, Jon impulsively booking a last minute trip to Hatchetfield to see if what he's learned in the statements really holds any water.
Spoiler alert: it does.
Hijinks include him running into trouble with PEIP and meeting another technology disliking man named some variation of "John" (that being General MacNamara), staking it out in the Witchwood and getting shat on by Nighthawks, and digging deep into the mysteries that lurk in the basement of CCRP.

Random, possibly terrible, possibly wonderful, definitely insane idea:
Now that the Dead Boy Detective agency's bigger than it used to be---and the name's not entirely accurate, since it now consists of two dead boys, an alive psychic, a girl who came back from the dead (yes, that's Niko, she's fine in this scenario), a trans-dimensional afterlife worker, and an alive butcher---they're able to take on more cases and do work farther afield, and the word's caught on with a lot of ghosts.
Eventually, they start getting a lot of notices about some weird stuff going on in this small town in Michigan. It's not that unusual at first---missing pageant queens, a haunted forest that's home to more than one giant man-like creature, a corporation whose crimes against humanity veer more towards the paranormal side of things than normal---but when they look closer, they realize that there's something incredibly wrong with the town's relationship with time and reality... and according to the Night Nurse, every single citizen has died at least once.
So, the gang goes to Hatchetfield.
#dead boy detectives#starkid#hatchetfield#you can't tell me that jenny and emma wouldn't get along like a house on fire#and oh my god the CHAOS of crystal and niko going to hatchetfield high while the boys tag along#THINK ABOUT MISS HOLLOWAY MEETING EVERYONE

for @blubblesandink who requested the prompts “two shots of vodka” and “After the night, when I wake up, I’ll see what tomorrow brings” with Nancy! I hope you enjoy this and I apologize for the belated fic!
-
She always goes to a different bar, even she’s still in the city or the state. A few times, she’s at a different country, on the road of her current scoop which gives her an excuse to order exquisite drinks before her usual. Keeps her buzzed and loose enough before she starts the tradition with that somber cloud that never skips a moment precipitating above her head.
But this year, Nancy is in Halifax. The temperatures here are more frigid given the Canadian side of the Atlantic. But she finds herself embracing it more easily than she had in past twenty-eight years next to Lake Michigan, excluding her time abroad. Maybe there’s some truth about living in Canada is easier than in America.
Unless Nova Scotia has its own story of alternate dimensions and bloodthirsty psychic monsters.
She’s not retired yet, but Nancy sees herself moving a little down to a farmhouse at the countryside, maybe with three sheepdogs and a horse for company. She smiles at the thought and files that to the cabinet in her brain specifically saved for the future.
When Nancy takes a seat at the counter, the bartender comes up and asks for her order.
Nancy finds herself hesitating. Debates between her usual and trying something new that would help her ease and settle further into the setting. The bar is cozy, more of a cafe for catching Z’s and seagazing than a commonplace for alcohol and sorrows. There’s even fluffy couches aligned below the windows.
In the end, Nancy stays faithful.
“Two shots of vodka.”
The bartender nods. She looks five years younger than Nancy, one side of hair longer the other and dyed lavender. She’s quick too. Nancy swears by the time ‘vodka’ leaves her lips, the bartender has already slid the drinks over.
“Waiting for someone or is it personal?” She asks with a lopsided grin.
Nancy smiles back, “Personal matter.”
She makes a sympathetic click with her tongue. “Well, if you need anything, another drink or food, let me know.”
Nancy watches her leave to the other end before casting her gaze back to the vodka shots.
In the beginning, the first several years, she had made mental monologues to herself. A mix of self-consciousness of saying anything aloud in public and a silly superstitition that somehow Barb can still hear her.
That’s how it started. In honor of Barb. Every year, on the same day. September the fourth. When Nancy Wheeler and Barbara Holland found each other in kindergarten and stayed together since.
Nancy forgets easily - underestimates - about how much grief can not only fill up your body more than water and how it never gets drained out, no matter how many times she rings it out of the cloth. It always refills.
But that doesn’t mean that the grief reaches the same level as it usually does. Every year, Nancy feels its capacity lower and lower until she’s trending through it by her ankles. Like that part of a beach’s shore where the waves lap around the legs but never soak you or get strong enough to pull you in.
Sometimes, Nancy looks back at those years and wonders how she managed to survive without risking alcohol poisoning like she’d nearly done at Tina’s Halloween party in ‘84.
Nowadays though, her tradition had shifted from honoring Barb’s memory to the Party’s.
They aren't gone gone. But their once fire-forged connection had waned over the decades, especially as the kids had grown older and moved to live on their own. Nancy still talks to Mike, though their last conversation was two months ago when she told him about her move.
Some days, she regrets leaving them so soon. Wishes of another life where she put her own ambitions behind and stayed in touch with the Party.
But those wishes are still regrets. Even the occasional wandering thought of where Steve or Jonathan or Max or anybody was right now will never give her a clear answer.
Nancy taps a finger on her chosen glass. Her recently manicured nail makes tiny clink-clink noises against the edge, creating tiny ripples across the content’s surface.
She sighs. Rolls her neck with a crick - god, she’s getting old - and finally lifts up her shot in salute to nobody and everyone in particular.
“To you, to us.”
She gulps down the vodka. It flows warmly down her throat and settles in her chest like a dragon breathing fire in reverse.
As she places the glass back down, Lavender Hair appears in front of her. Nancy doesn’t jump or flinch.
“What about the other one?” She asks.
Nancy shoulders on her coat and tote bag as she sits up, “I just leave it for a while. Dunno what happens after I leave.” She pauses before chuckling, “Maybe one of the ghosts drinks it.”
Before the bartender can comment, Nancy slaps a ten dollar bill in front of her and leaves the bar.
Outside, she takes a moment to inhale the fresh afternoon air and turn her face towards the sun. It’s barely five in the afternoon but she has an article to finish by tomorrow.

Ring of Horror: Rosemary
Hailing from the Valley of Shadows (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) is Holly Letkeman. Better known today by the monstrous moniker of Rosemary. Okay, maybe it's not the most menacing or imposing of names, but Rosemary herself is both those things and more. Plus, Rosemary's Baby—A classic horror flick directed by convicted statutory rapist Roman Polanski so there's a spooky connection to the name. Getting her start in the business in 2008, Letkenman was trained by three Canadian greats, Johnny Divine, Tyson Dux, and Coach Scott D'Amore. She'd work her first match on January 30th, 2008, at a Prime Time Wrestling event in Belleville, Michigan, featuring heavy cross-promotion with the Insane Clown Pose's wrestling promotion, Juggalo Championship Wrestling.
In March, Letkeman took the ring name PJ Tyler, inspired by Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler and possibly Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, and began performing across the Canadian Indies, frequently appearing for Scott D'Amore's Border City Wrestling. By her second year, PJ Tyler could be regularly seen on Pro Wrestling Xtreme and Great Canadian Wrestling shows.—It was in the latter promotion that Tyler picked up her first championship, winning the GCW WILD Champion in a tournament. PJ Tyler's run lasted 117 days before dropping it to some random dude named Anthony Darko. Info on the title change and Darko's run with the belt is .—And not really all that important. Near the end of 2010, Tyler switched up her ring name, dropping the PJ and the Tyler in favor of a Courtney and a Rush.
Courtney Rush didn't slow down, working feverishly across various indies North of the border and somewhat dipping her toe into the United States indie scene, mainly for SHIMMER Women Athletes' taping in Chicago, Il. She'd end up signed to Impact Wrestling in 2016. But before that, Courtney Rush dominated Canadian wrestling, amassing quite a collection of championships, including an 833-day regin with the Acclaim Pro Wrestling Woman's championship, among other not-as-lengthy but still pretty lengthy title runs.
On her own, Courtney Rush was bound to make it. She had all the tools needed to succeed in the industry. It was just a matter of time before Courtney Rush was signed with someone. Unfortunately or fortunately—depending on your perspective—Courtney Rush went, and doggone got herself possessed. Possessed by a demon assassin. Rosemary.
Track 10 off Marilyn Manson's fourth studio album, Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death), filled the Impact Zone on January 26th as Rosemary took the stage. Painted up like some kinda demonic, demented haunted house performer, smudges and smears specked her arms and legs, not a look wrestling fans were accustomed to. She delivered a terrible, nonsensical promo to the Wolves (Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards), who stood in the ring. Fellow Canadian Crazy Steve and fellow monster Abyss joined Rosemary on stage, officially coming together as Decay. The trio attacked the Wolves—Stealing their Tag Team titles in the process. Decay would legitimately hold the titles in March after defeating Beer Money Inc. (Bobby Roode and James Storm) at Sacrifice.—Early in the same show, Rosemary scored a shenanigans-filled win over wrestling legend Gail Gim. In October, Rosemary would get some gold of her own. Winning the vacant TNA Knockouts World Championship in a Six-Sides of Steel match against Jade.
A respectable 266 days with the strap ended with Rosemary dropping the belt in a title vs. title unification match with Global Force Wrestling Women's Champions Sienna (Allysin Kay) at Slammiversary XV. In the weeks leading up to the event, Rosemary turned Face, claiming The Hive had sent her to protect Allie, first saving her from a beatdown from Sienna and Laurel Van Ness. What The Hive exactly is is not entirely clear. It seems to be more of an idea. Or perhaps it's an ageless being from beyond the stars that is psychically and spiritually linked to the being known as Rosemary.
A feud with the debuting Taya Valkyrie would end before it started, thanks to personal issues on Valkyrie's part. Rosemary reentered the title hunt, failing to regain the yet-again vacant Knockouts title in a tournament. The feud with Taya Valkyrie picked right back up once Valkyrie returned. Their short-lived angle concluded in a fancily named hardcore match (A Demon's Dance Match.) No longer preoccupied with the title or Taya, Rosemary could again focus on protecting her pal Allie.
And help, Allie needed. Su Yung had her sights set on ending Allie. On the April 26th, 2018, edition of Impact, Yung, along with a legion of Undead Bridesmaids, attacked Allie, attempting to put her in a coffin.—An attempt stopped by Rosemary. If you're a fan of horror and wrestling, then this is the feud for you. The demonic Rosemary protecting the sweet, innocent Allie from the evil undead bride Su Yung—Chef's kiss. Big, sloppy, chef's kiss. An injury Rosemary sustained at an indie show facilitated her needing to be written off TV a week after the start of the angle. The May 3rd Impact featured a match between Rosemary and Su Yung. At least it was meant to. Before the bell, the women broke into a brawl on the ramp. Yung summed her Undead Bridesmaids, who with them brought a casket. Allie was there too, trying to assist her best friend, Rosemary. It didn't go so well. Allie was forced to watch as Su Yung dumped Rosemary into the casket, sealing her inside.
A lot happened while Rosemary healed up. Allie went, and doggone got herself possessed, turning Heel and aligning with former rival Su Yung. Allie (now going by Dark Allie) and Su Yung teamed up to defeat Jordynne Grace and Kiera Hogan (No relation to former singer/reality star Brooke Hogan) at the January 2019 Homecoming. Rosemary returned that night, saving Kira Hogan from a post-match beatdown and reigniting the storyline with Allie and Su Yung. Rosemary worked to free Allie from the demonic hold that had taken over her. Along with Kira Hogan, at March's Against All Odds event, Rosemary dragged Allie with her into the Undead Realm in hopes of retrieving her friend's soul. -- Rosemary failed to save the soul of Allie, losing her friend forever.
Rosemary's revenge came in May when she laid out Su Yung in a Demon Collar Match (Dog Collar Match) where the ladies worked smart rather than hard. It's not a terrible match. But it does lack the violence and aggression you'd want from such a heated blood feud between two unholy hell beings. Instead of using the chain to brutalize one another, they find creative ways to incorporate its use. Choking spots. Tripping and tangling each other up. Dragging and pulling each other around the ring. It all works. Just would've worked better in a different match with different wrestlers. These two should've been trying to kill each other. They should have bled and broke to finish off this feud. Though Rosemary did take Su Yung prisoner.
Rosemary kept her captive close, having Su Yung accompany her to the ring over the next few weeks until Father James Mitchell had Havok free Yung while attacking Rosemary during a non-title match with Taya Valkyrie. Rosemary continued her unsuccessful pursuit of the Knockouts Title while simultaneously battling James Mitchell, Havok, and Su Yung. The entire saga came to a head with James Mitchell banishing Havok and Yung to the Undead Wasteland and Rosemary rescuing them.
TNA/Impact Wrestling has always been a wee bit silly. But Wrestle House was the undisputed peak of Impact/TNA buffoonery. A goofy Big Brother/Real World-style reality show, except with a vaguely supernatural twist. They can't leave the house, possibly due to a curse from Rosemary. The whole thing was madness. Ridiculous fun to be enjoyed by all but a few wrestling fans with a penchant for brightly colored suits, Southern idioms, and tennis rackets. It might not have been "Real Wrestling," but it was stupid, creative, and different, which is always appreciated. Her time in Wrestle House led Rosemary to form a brief team with former enemy Taya Valkyrie.
The team of Rosemary and Valkyrie competed in a tournament for the Impact Knockouts Tag Team Titles. They lost and stopped teaming after. She wasn't single long. Disbanding her team with Valkyrie in December and getting back with one of her exes by January. Ex-partner, that is, and it was Crazy Steve whom she got back together, reforming Decay—Sans Aybss; in his sted, the group added Luchador Black Taurus and former Rosemary foe-turned-friend Havok. When it comes to the story of Rosemary, it is hard not to be reminded of the famous quote: "Do I not destroy my enemies by making them my friends?" Time after time, rivals become allies.
With Havoc, Rosemary would have her first run with the Impact Knockouts Tag Team Championship. The iconic team of The IInspiration (Cassie Lee and Jessica McKay) took the belts from Decay after 98 days. Rosemary floated around the Knockout Tag and Knockout Women's Championship scenes for a few months with no success. Havok abandoned Rosemary in June, leaving her without a partner to face the Knockouts Tag Team Champions—No longer The IInspiration but now The Influence (Madison Rayne & Tenille Dashwood). However, as fate would have it, an old frenemy was back to get Rosemary's back. Taya Valkyrie. Valkyrie partnered with Rosemary for a title match at Slammiversary. That night, Rosemary became a two-time Impact Knockouts Tag Team Champion. In addition to aiding Rosemary in getting back the belts, Valkyrie joined Rosemary in her quest to find and bring back Havoc.
In the Undead Realm, Rosemary and Valkyrie found a different… Maybe unpossessed Havoc, going by the name Jessicka. Eventually, the trio took the name the Death Dollz, defending the belts under the Freebird Rule.—A rule allowing any two members of a larger team to defend the belts. Possibly made most famous by supergroup, the Spirit Squad, a quintet of male cheerleaders made up of five young men who at one time had dreams of being "serious" pro wrestlers but ultimately just got drenched in poo.
Between 2022 and 2023, the Death Dollz held the belts twice. Losing their titles first to VXT (Chelsea Green & Deonna Purrazzo) before getting them back 56 days later. The Coven (KiLynn King & Taylor Wilde) ended reign two for the Dollz. -- In the wake of this loss, Rosemary returned to the Undead Realm to retrieve her former partner, leaving her current partner, Jessicka, to wait. Rosemary wouldn't return.
At the Under Siege pre-show from London, not that one, the Ontario, Canada one, The Coven faced the Death Dollz in a non-title match. Jessicka's partner was a surprise return. Not Rosemary, but rather, for the first time in some seven years, Courtney Rush—Free of Rosemary's demonic possession. Rush and Jessicka carried on as the Death Dollz until the demise of Impact Wrestling at the end of 2023.
A brief history of TNA/Impact Wrestling. Founded by J, E, double F, J, A, double R, E, double T, and his father, Jerry Jarrett, in the long, long ago of 2002. That same year, Panda Energy International purchased a controlling share of the promotion, appointing Dixie Carter (the daughter of the company's owner) president. Smashing Pumpkin's frontman and full-grown man-baby, Billy Corgan, thought he bought the company. He didn't. In 2017, Anthem Sports & Entertainment acquired TNA Wrestling, rebranding the promotion as Impact Wrestling. Anthem rebranded again in 2024, reverting to TNA Wrestling. Rebranverting? (That's a word, right?—If you use your imagination.)
The Rebranverting didn't stop with the promotion's name. The Death Dollz also got an all-new-old look. Rosemary was back with Havoc by her side as Decay, returning to become TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Champions at the rebrandverted TNA relaunch event, Hard To Kill. And for the most part, that's the road so far. There's so much more to the Rosemary story. Years of television, interwinding character arks, and continuity rarely seen in the weird, wacky, and wild world of wrestling make it something special and worth the time.
Holly Letkeman and everything she's created within TNA/Impact/TNA (Again) has continuously been a diamond in the rough. Horror or humor, she delivers. Rosemary and her host vessel, Courtney Rush, deserve to be known. Their story to be heard. You could say it's a shame Rosemary has had to spend so much time trapped in the endless purgatory of TNA/Impact.—On the other hand, WWE never would've leaned into the spooky absurdity of Rosemary's world. More people would've seen her and her story. But it wouldn't have been as good. It wouldn't have been nearly as good. No, Rosemary is right where she should be. And it's on us to find her. To join The Hive.

Some OC stuff I drew about a week ago - Lizzie & Norma's divorced parents! Plus some extra doodles. I had been meaning to do more but then I lost motivation and couldn't find it again.
Almost all of my headcanons about their parents were spawned both from Norma's "if my parents hear about this!" line during the Lady Luctopus boss fight, and Lizzie responding to the baby-obsessed rich couple with "or you could just have a happy life together?", and then I worked backwards from there. :V
If the text is a bit hard to read:
Socorro Nova Natividad
Lizzie & Norma's mom
Psychic
Artist
Hails from Zaragoza, Spain
Experiences mood-swings and poor impulse control
Wanted to be a Manic Pixie Dream Girl, 'but then adulthood happened'.
Lizzie's favourite parent
Norma has complicated feelings about her
Harding Difficulty
Lizzie & Norma's dad
Judge (literally)
Hails from Upper Michigan
Has complicated feelings towards psychics (the legal profession isn't very kind to them)
Puts on a mask of aloofness but it secretly menaced by constant anxieties about money, his career, his daughters, etc. (Norma got her 'see problems to be solved everywhere' mindset from him)
Lizzie thinks he hates her
#psychonauts#psychonauts 2#psychonauts OCs#OC family members#lizzie natividad#norma natividad#lizzie & norma's parents#I like height differences in couples too much#also I realize Harding is kinda similar to Newton Boole my other intern dad OC#the difference with him is that he's very entrenched in psychic affairs while Harding is more of an outsider#and thus they have very different attitudes towards baseline psychics#Harding is dealing with 'normal' psychics; Newton is dealing with the Boole family brand of psychics#also Newton is still married :V

sniping bots, don’t feel insects innocuous as leaves’ movement in sunset, sustaining rain with every overcast,

-- WRITEBLR (RE)INTRODUCTION;
-- ABOUT ME;
kael knoxton martin | 22 | he/they/xe | 📍 mid-michigan
i'm a transgender disabled writer (who... needs to start using writeblr again). i've been writing since i was four or five years old, and writing has always been my main outlet for Experiences and Emotions and All Of The Side Effects Of Being Alive. in short, i cannot stop writing or i will die. hence why i should use my actual writing blog more!
my writing comes in a variety pack of fuckery but my greatest loves are poetry, science fiction, and creative nonfiction. i'm deeply passionate about disability & mental illness representation, alien cultures, platonic soulmates, monstrousness and the perception of it, nightmares, and pretty much anything "weird".
(you can see my published pieces, my self-published collection of poetry, and my substack newsletter here!)
-- MY WIPS;
i have two main WIPs right now...
the reposing force of the great lakes
a story i've been planning for about two years now. in a universe where superheroes are widely known to the public and treated like celebrities, the great lakes region of the united states has its own reposing force -- a collective of carefully chosen superheroes who make it their mission to help and protect everyone around them.
three characters - ivy white, kingsley henneth, and rowan james - apply for a job within the reposing force each for a different reason, and all get rejected for the same reason. their powers are "useless" and would be "an embarrassment" to the organization.
a week later, however, the entire reposing force (except for one member!) gets kidnapped by a powerful, revenge-driven supervillain and exiled to a nightmarish dimension. now they're forced into saving the heroes that rejected them and fighting the threats that pile up in the wake of their absence, trying to navigate a destiny they never ever wanted.
fate harvested (working title)
set in an unknown part of space in an unknown future, the harvestman is the most feared vessel in all of known reality. piloted by a group of criminals, each with their own specialties and unique abilities, the crew of the harvestman will do almost any job if it pays well enough.
during an assignment to steal artifacts from a tourist planet, the crew of the harvestmen experience their first loss in several decades when their heist fails. the leader, former staezandan warrior skylas graver, believes that the person who hired them set them up to fail, and sets off to find them.
it doesn't take him very long.
the buyer ends up being marlenn zinn, the fourteen year old child of sol zinn, the immortal ruler and founder of a faraway but powerful planet known as kaltox iii. he was right, she did set them up to fail; the intent was actually to distract them so marlenn could stow away on their ship.
marlenn begs them for help; the entirety of kaltox iii is hunting her down, believing her to be a youth mentioned in the old kaltox prophecies. according to the legend, the psychic child will bring great loss to their world, and this can only be prevented by "harvesting" marlenn's psychic powers through a procedure that effectively kills her.
the crew must decide whether or not helping marlenn is a good use of their time while also navigating their own traumas that developed in childhood, and eventually they soften as marlenn's own trauma hardens her even more. Found Family, tm.

Well, this is an artwork you guys have already seen, but I decided to use this as an opportunity to update her biography since a lot of people have been asking me about her age and powers and such. You can view the full description of her powers from my DeviantArt post about her!
𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐞: Amanda Bright
𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐬: Lady Ace
𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: EXA 105-2(1)

𝐃𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡: 23rd June
𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: American
𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: Royal Woods, Michigan
𝐎𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Freelance photographer for the Royal Woods Gazette
𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬: As an Alphahuman, Lady Ace has a number of noteworthy powers and abilities, some of which are active when she is in her civilian form, and others only when she becomes Lady Ace.
Enhanced Strength and Speed
Flight
Enhanced Durability and Recovery
Psychic Sense
Machine Control and Sentience
Energy Weapons and Shields
Nanostorm Burst
𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: While Amanda Bright is normally quiet and composed, as Lady Ace she is much more loud and outgoing. She relishes in the fame and attention being a superhero in an otherwise normal and uneventful city brings her. When dealing with criminals, she prefers to defeat them in a spectacular way, especially when she knows there are people watching. In battle she often spouts one-liners and catchphrases as a means to distract her foes, to clam those in distress, and rally support from onlookers. However should a threat beyond her control arise, she takes on a more serious stance towards it.
𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐲: The daughter of and Steve Bright and Miriam Chua, Amanda Bright grew up in Ironwright, Maryland before moving to Royal Woods, Michigan at the age of 19. Life would be relatively uneventful for the young woman until the night of her 23rd birthday when the alien artifact known as the Lightbearer crashed landed in Tall Timbers Park.
UNITE was the first on the scene and had plans to bring the Lightbearer back to headquarters for a suitable candidate of choice to inherit its powers. However the young photographer, who was also investigating the impact site under the assumption that it was a meteor, managed to bypass security and come in contact with the alien artifact.
The Lightbearer saw Amanda as a worthy candidate and bestowed its powers onto her. Over the course of a few days, Amanda would not only unlock her nanomachine imbued suit but also the full extent of her powers. She would eventually cement herself as the superheroine, Lady Ace.

FLP CHAPBOOK OF THE DAY: Everything is a Big Deal for an Ocean by Susan Bruce
On SALE now! Pre-order Price Guarantee: https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product/everything-is-a-big-deal-for-an-ocean-by-susan-bruce/
In turbulent 2020, a year of isolation, the author stands on the shoreline of the #Atlantic Ocean in Montauk, LI and determines each of the waves to be unique, and selves of herself. Everything Is a Big Deal for an Ocean is the imagined poetic exchange between a vast #ocean and a tender writer, as they contend with intrinsic restlessness and connectedness. #poetry #poems #chapbook
Susan Bruce received an MA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and a BA from the University of Michigan. She lives with her husband and their two sons in Brooklyn, where she grew up and in Montauk, NY where she surfs.
PRAISE FOR Everything is a Big Deal for an Ocean by Susan Bruce
Susan Bruce has written a contemporary voice for the voice of waves: humorous, besieged, beseeching. One wave is known as “the comedian of icy coldness”; one lets off steam “and ejaculates more waves”; another aspires “to be a skyscraper”; Everything Is a Big Deal for an Ocean is an elliptical dadaist re-invention of the life and times of waves, here perceived as individual entities with fears, wit, and desires of their own. Bruce has given waves both individual and multiple consciousness, inviting us to reconsider our love and fear of this force of nature. I couldn’t help but think of JMW Turner’s magisterial paintings: what if those waves could talk! Here we overhear the absolutely unpredictable, wholly original conversation between a writer in the sands and the insouciant waves.
–Catherine Barnett, author of Human Hours
Everything is a big deal, especially when you are an ocean full of waves. Bruce’s collection of poems in Everything is a Big Deal for an Ocean inhabits the spirit of being a wave, and a person and a waveperson. The poet is wave, and the wave is a poet who crashes and softens in the spirit of As a wave artist I sprinkle cells of splash. These poems are the power of splash, the sweetness of splash, the inside of a wave and the outside of a wave, a singular vision of the sea in all of its humanity. Everything is a huge deal, a monumental occasion that Bruce has written about through the lens of a wave that is never ending, the embattled and beautiful energy of everyday existence.
–Matthew Lippman, author of We Are All Sleeping with Our Sneakers On
What a surprising, witty, sensual, playful and compelling sequence of poems Susan Bruce has made. What a mind this ocean is—fluid, hypnotic—with its deeply improvisatory logic, its incessant questions, confessions, repetitions; its waves of thought and sinking feelings, its blues and cluttered ribcage. With a light touch and rhythmic beauty, a Yes, and process of investigation, Bruce explores our contradictions and compulsions, our fears and psychic undertows, in a moving lyric meditation on order and disorder.
–Donna Masini, author of 4:30 Movie
Everything Is a Big Deal for An Ocean is like standing on the shore, eavesdropping on an incredibly personal conversation between the narrator and the ocean. We’re lulled, then tossed by the sway of the waves, feel the grit of the sand between our toes, and hear the “growl and burst” resonating our ears. Who is speaking and whether the questions posed will ever be answered mirror the fluid, enigmatic nature of the water itself. In this dialogue, Bruce illuminates both the vast expanse of the ocean as well as the depths of our own internal worlds.
–Heather Aimee O’Neill, author of Memory Future and Obliterations
In Everything is a Big Deal for an Ocean, Susan Bruce connects the world of the writer, and the role of the writer, to that of the natural world. “We could be blissful together.” “I’m left to sing when the sun rises and sing when the sun sets.” That’s the call of the artist, isn’t it? To sing! The beauty of poetry is how we use it to be resilient. These poems make us think and help us to carry on, naturally, as a wave.
–Leah Umansky, author of Of Tyrant (2024)

i literally feel insane you keep adding to your imposter story and its literally my life. I also have a shitty abusive ex who wss followed by a guy named peter that only liked me for my looks and I am now dating a man named will who I think is different. Are you fucking with me. be serious. Do you know me IRL
i even work in the outdoors field and like to cook with garlic mustard. my mom has low standards and low empathy from experiencing abuse. lover of plants. could be convinced of bigfoots. eldest sister. hashtag pure michigan. Next are you going to add the subplot about how I brush my teeth when I'm stressed out
--------------------------------------------------
That's pretty crazy! A lot of this is embellished from things I have personal experience with (because I decided to take "write what you know" literally), names of characters based on people I know have been altered (Peter being one of those altered names). Some other characters are amalgamations. The rest are made up. So I'm pretty sure I don't know you but maybe we're long-lost twins with a psychic connection? lol
