I Take Refuge in You

A song of David that he sang to the Lord about Cush from the tribe of Benjamin.

1 Lord my God, I come to you for protection. Save me from those who are chasing me. 2 If you don’t help me, I will be torn apart like an animal caught by a lion. I will be carried away with no one to save me.

3 Lord my God, I have done nothing wrong. 4 I have done nothing to hurt a friend or to help his enemies. 5 If that is not the truth, then punish me. Let an enemy chase me, catch me, and kill me. Let him grind me into the dirt and put me in my grave. Selah

6 Lord, get up and show your anger! My enemy is angry, so stand and fight against him. Get me the justice that you demand. 7 Gather the nations around you, and take your place as judge. 8 Lord, judge the people. Lord, judge me. 14 The minds of the wicked are full of evil; they are pregnant with wicked plans, which give birth to lies. 15 They dig a pit to trap others, but they are the ones who will fall into it. 16 The trouble they cause will come back on them. They plan harm for others, but they are the ones who will be hurt.

Lucifer is a heavy metal band formed in Berlin in 2014 by frontwoman Johanna Sadonis. Following several member changes, vocalist Sadonis remains the only constant member, with the current line-up featuring drummer /husband Nicke Andersson (Nihilist, Entombed, Death Breath, The Hellacopters, Imperial State Electric... ), guitarists Martin Nordin and Linus Björklund, and bassist Harald Göthblad. Currently based out of Stockholm, the members are Swedish with the exception of the German Sadonis.

In March 2017, it was announced that Nicke Andersson had joined the band Lucifer as drummer. He had started writing songs with his now-wife and Lucifer vocalist Johanna Sadonis in 2016, when two of its members had left. As he is a multi-insturmentalist, Lucifer recorded their second album in Andersson's home studio without a complete band, only the addition of guitarist Robin Tidebrink. The band's third and fourth albums, Lucifer III (2021) and Lucifer IV (2022), were each nominated for Best Hard Rock/Metal at the Grammis awards.

Johanna Platow Andersson (also known as Johanna Sadonis) is the front woman of the hard rock band Lucifer, which was founded in Berlin in 2014.

Johanna sang in various rock and metal bands in the 1990s and early 2000s (Informer, Dies Ater, Ferox, Cryogenic, Vinterkrig, The Oath, Lucifer)

Johanna Sadonis (born Johanna Claudia Platow) is a vocalist, DJ and promoter from Berlin, Germany.

In 2010, she was part of the electronic indie pop band Informer along with Rayshele Teige, a former employee of Century Media in the US.

She also runs the monthly old-school heavy metal party "Kill Em All Club" in Berlin.

Together with her husband Nicke Andersson she co-founded and runs Riding Reaper Records.

She co-wrote the lyrics and performed vocals for the track "Deep Down South" of the album "New Man, New Songs, Same Shit. Vol.1" (Napalm Records, 2020) by Me and that Man, an acoustic/folk rock project from Behemoth's Nergal.

SCRIPTURE:

'O Lord my God, in You I have taken refuge;  Save me from all those who pursue me, and deliver me, ~ Psalms 7:1

OBSERVATION:

Refuge:

1 : shelter or protection from danger or distress

2 : a place that provides shelter or protection

3 : something to which one has recourse in difficulty

"Save... and deliver me..." 

...from the enemy...

...and myself...

APPLICATION:

Take refuge - before it's even needed...

Accept His saving deliverance...

PRAYER:

Praying verse 17:

I will give thanks to You, Lord according to Your righteousnessAnd will sing praise to Your Name, Lord Most High. In Jesus's Name, and for Your rightful glory and honor...

El Salmo 7:1-2 muestra el clamor del salmista ante las falsas acusaciones: "Oh SEÑOR, Dios mío, en Ti me refugio; Sálvame de todo el que me persigue, y líbrame," (𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐨 𝟕:𝟏 | 𝐍𝐁𝐋𝐀). Psalm 7 - A Meditation

O Lord my God, in you I take refuge;     save me from all my pursuers, and deliver me,  or like a lion they will tear me apart;     they will drag me away, with no one to rescue."

-Psalm 7:1-2

First, I think this may be the first time I've managed a week of this kind of prayer/meditation for years... at least seven.

Which is wild.

There isn't this legalistic demand, just this desire to try and meet, connect, to think, to express... to try and find a way to connect when there is this huge hole within. I know this can't fix me, but I do think it can help me find beauty, wonder, and hope when I want to run. So instead of running away, alot of this effort is maintaining and Being... but Love does something else.

So, to the Psalm.

I don't feel that I have anything in terms of a major revelation or thoughts to share, but taking refuge is active. Sheltering, taking defense, finding a place of protection all require action. Having been alive this long, I have a good idea of what horrors are wanting me dead.

My anxiety, depression, OCD, and collection of unsorted neurosis all try to pull me under.

Besides the normal spiritual practices that have been a mix of helpfulness, I think the healthiest thing I have managed to do in recent years is spend time with people who care about my well being. That is a variety pack of differing things, but end result is someone who loves me will encourage me to do what is healthy. That shouldn't feel so simple, but it is, although i sitll have such a ways to go...

Therapy is something in which I need to invest more time. A plus side is medication seems to help, especially as I am remembering to take it on the regular. So, maybe building better healthy relationships can do more than I thought or cared to think of...

It's easy to try and blame God or expect God to do magical things when so much is clearly on ourselves. It's not a ridiculously stupid notion as "God helps those who help themselves," because we are unable to do that much. Instead, it's more of a t least trying and somehow it sometimes works somehow... which I admit isn't an award winning formula, but there isn't a formula to life.

So, the best advice I can give tot hose struggling with mental illness, find people who love you as you are but care enough to help you push and become the best you that is possible.

Some possible uses of this psalm:

Break a hex (repeat verses 1 to 10 four times over holy water, rinse hands in the water, and then pour outside residence)

Comfort when falsely accused

Promote a just verdict in court (pray verses 8 to 10 before appearing in court)

Overcome crossed conditions (anoint the neck with Jinx Removing Oil and pray this each night before bed for a week)

Protection from enemies
