After a week away it was a pleasant surprise to find some #boozemail from Pernod-Ricard waiting for me. I love increasing my exposure to aperitifs and these two I can’t wait to try out. Traditionally it's served neat, with tonic or with orange juice as well as a flavour in many cocktails. 👉🏽BYRRH👈🏽 Byrrh was founded in the 19th century in France and this Grand Quinquina is a wine-based aperitif, with no added sugar - all the sweetness comes from the muscat base wine. Other ingredients include coffee, bitter orange and cocoa, as well as as the finest cinchona (quinine) barks. There are equal parts all the main elements to represent equality. Blood orange and pink to represent us from the inside we all the same. Finished off with olive bitters representing the olive branch of peace. Happy to have received these from Pernod Richard, their famous range of aromatised French wine-based aperitif from Podensac. It is a blend of Bordeaux region wines (Semillon for the Blanc and for the Rosé, Merlot for the Rouge) macerated liqueurs, mostly citrus liqueurs (peels of sweet oranges from Spain and Morocco and peels of bitter green oranges from Haiti). The mix is then stirred in oak vats until blended.
