Ottawa’s job market is a fascinating blend of diverse sectors, yet it is predominantly marked by an overwhelming presence of government-related employment. This scenario sets Ottawa apart from other major Canadian cities, where private sectors often dominate.

I've had my car for a year now and I have never once parallel parked*
I'd like to go to an exhibition this weekend, but there is only roadside/on-street parking available (I've even double checked on google streetview to be sure. and for a few blocks in every direction) and honestly I am panicking a little because this is it. it's unavoidable now. I will have to parallel park.
(* of course, I did parallel park twice during the test to get my license, but that was between poles and traffic cones, not between real people's cars which could be bumped into)

The provincial government is literally evil.
#hey let's pass a bill specifically fucking with the elections of the largest municipalities#'there are hundreds of municipalities in the province and only a handful are being fucked with 99% are being left alone'#*those few municipalities are more than half of the provincial population*#at least they're not doing it during the election like ford did to toronto#but god this government is a bunch of bastards#catgirltxt

My Canadian followers please never forget that even the “truth” part of truth and reconciliation is a sham because all levels of government still refuse to acknowledge that there were way more than 139 residential schools as they intentionally left those that were provincially or privately funded out of the TRC settlement agreement
#tw residential schools#the TRC report directly acknowledges the existence of provincially and privately funded residential schools#go to the list of institutions people have requested to be added to#the settlement agreement and scroll down and see how many#were denied a spot on the basis of not being federally funded#reconciliation is literally a dollars game they’ll pay for what they can’t avoid and continue to lie and ignore their way around#what they can#my grandpas school was denied a spot because of being provincially funded and to this day#the religious order that ran it AND the provincial government explicitly deny that it was a residential school#not even all federally funded schools have been recognized don’t forget that either#anyhow don’t believe them about how much they care and how much they’re doing. they don’t and aren’t#and can never claim to be when they still refuse to come clean about the extent of this genocide

on the whole applying for jobs was a slightly soul-crushing experience but it did end up taking basically the ideal length of time: just long enough for me to finish my thesis, get some free macarons from an interview at a bakery, and not have to go to the interview i had scheduled this afternoon (i didn't get hired by the bakery, btw. i got hired by the provincial government, which pays much better)
#it was actually one of the first jobs i applied for the provincial government's hiring process just takes like. a month and a half#guess who's finally going to be making more than minimum wage!#technically my TA job had a really good hourly rate (thank you canadian union of public employees) but we didn't get many hours

Ms Smith: I do want to talk for a moment about postsecondary institutions, Mr. Speaker. Let’s be frank. I don’t know if it needs to be said or not, but it’s my observation that at this current moment in time Ottawa’s priorities are not Alberta’s priorities. Alberta has been funding targeted enrolment expansion based on Alberta’s labour market in order to ensure that industry and job creators have the skilled and professional workers that they need. We know with the Dow Chemical petrochemical facility. Whether it’s Air Products, whether it’s pipeline projects, we know that we need to have tens of thousands of skilled construction workers to be able to fuel that growth. We also need tens of thousands of skilled construction workers to be able to build the homes that we need.
Ottawa provides funding specifically in other areas that are not urgently needed in our workplaces and our economy. They specifically fund programs, initiatives, and research that furthers their ideology, and that ideology is often contrary to Alberta’s interests.
#postsecondary institutions do not exist to pump out pipeline workers#or take orders from the provincial government's ideology#fuck off#alberta#alberta politics#ableg#Danielle Smith#Brooks-Medicine Hat#UCP#cdnpoli

tiktok just made me input my email and password (I had to select this instead of the default of sending a code to my phone), then made me solve a captcha (that I've never seen before. I had to match object shapes and sizes), then also sent a code to my email for me to input to "verify it was me", so yeah, I think I'm actually just never going on tiktok again, thanks, 'cause holy shit
#my provincial government website doesn't even make me jump through hoops like that#this is a video sharing website for people who think the internet is capable of raising their children#why did I have to do 3 separate things to log into an account I literally have the password for?!!?#there absolutely is such a thing as too much security#I would genuinely rather just never use that site again than have to go through all that bullshit

rajo's bio parents, tanorra and sayevast, early in their relationship. they are now very bitterly broken up but their jobs still work very close together, so tanorra has been sending her assistants to report to sayevast and refusing to talk to her face-to-face for the last 17 years. everyone finds this amusing except for the two of them and rajo (but he doesnt think anything is funny so its not special)
#worldbuilding project#phone art#sayevast is basically a provincial administrator and tanorra runs the domestic chores of the building the government operates outof.

Would be nice if Canadians stopped treating our government like it's a two party system when it obviously is NOT.
#canadians are so god damn ignorant of how their federal and provincial governments work omg#you have more than TWO fucking parties to choose from come election time#if you hate libs you do NOT HAVE to vote for the conservatives#the majority of Canadians never paid any attention in civics class and it fucking shows

anyway i'm praying for legault's downfall now that hundreds of thousands of public service workers are out on strike for better pay as he's offering $7million for some hockey games. the strikes are happening all over the province and the majority of quebecers know someone who is on strike (if they aren't on strike themselves) so hopefully this makes people think abt how teachers and nurses are more valuable than a few hockey games
#the state of provincial politics is such that i doubt it would be better under pq or plq#and qs has been gaining but not enough to form government#so idk what i'm rly hoping for from the next election but i do hope his reputation takes a hit#minority government might be possible who knows#soapbox
