No one tagged but me (I’m new and quiet and not very prolific) but I wanted to share anyway 🥰
He starts to close Gale’s foot locker when his own lucky deuce catches his eye. He holds it tenderly in his hands, remembering the day he gave it to Gale on the morning of that fateful first Bremen mission, praying it would protect him. There’s a slight blood stain on it from the injuries Gale sustained. Gale earned the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions that day.
He puts the lucky deuce in his pocket.
Bucky closes Gale’s locker reverently. He isn’t ready for their story to be over yet. They haven’t even gotten the chance to write a chapter.
Harry Crosby stops him to tell him that they intend to ship Gale’s locker home to his father. Bucky would rather die than let Gale’s father get his hands on Gale’s possessions. “I expect my buddy back Croz. He’s just MIA.”
He can feel the concerned gazes of both Crosby and Robert “Rosie” Rosenthal as he walks away. He’s playing the part of grieving best friend when in his heart he feels like a war widow.
He steps outside to find that it’s started raining. Typical England weather and fitting to his mood. He can’t tell if the moisture on his cheeks are raindrops or tears.

i've been reading too many fics and i just had an awful thought - that the reason brady was so insistent on bucky jumping before him was because he was afraid if he went first bucky wouldn't jump at all
#masters of the air#mota#bucky egan#john brady#i've seen it at least three times how brady is so adamant that bucky jumped before he did and now i can't stop thinking about it#bucky went out there with no intention of coming back everyone could tell#especially after that jacket switch#so brady does what he does - manages to reach past bucky's grief to that protective side of him#that wouldn't let anyone burn alive in a crashing fort#and gets him to jump first#oh 😭#abbie talks

I HC that when meeting them, people assume Gale is more protective over John, he's always silently sitting next to him, watching and analysing everything and everyone around them.
He doesn't seem to join in on the fun, dancing, drinking or playing games. He just hangs next to a happy John enjoying himself. Like a little protective bodyguard.
John seems almost unapproachable, you can hardly get a moment alone with the guy without Gale being stuck to his side. So naturally, people assume it's because Gale is both protective and possessive of his best friend.
That is until someone tries to separate them.
John's on the dance floor drinking and singing, having a good time with his friends. Gale isn't too far away, watching them from the bar, he likes seeing John happy.
That's when he's approached by a couple of drunk soldiers. They seem friendly enough, so Gale doesn't say anything. Maybe they get a little too close and comfortable for Gale's liking.
He doesn't do well with people he doesn't know, especially when they're drunk. They make him uncomfortable.
Maybe they say or do something he doesn't like so he tries to leave, but there's two of them and they block him from leaving.
Curt probably sees this and rushes over to separate them before John can see. Things escalate and the soldiers put their hands on Gale intentionally or unintentionally.
John is on them before anything else can happen. He goes absolutely feral. Curt and a few others have to drag him off of the drunk soldiers.
No one's allowed to touch or make his Buck uncomfortable.
That night, everyone realises that John is just as protective if not more of Gale than they thought.

I thought it would be fitting to post a sick-fic snippet, considering the upper-respiratory infection I’ve had for the past week has been kicking my ass.
So this is a little Bucky taking care of sick Buck fic.
Thank you for reading.
Gale went to sleep at Thorpe Abbots.
When his eyes shot open, he was in complete darkness. The only sounds in the room were the soft even breaths of his fellow officers.
Something was balled up in Gale’s stomach. This must’ve been what woke him.
God he hadn’t felt real nausea like this since he was a kid.
It’s alright. He tells himself. Just lie still and it will go away. Just calm down. Breathe, in and out. Calm yourself. It’s fine. It’ll go away.
Another roll of pain and discomfort had him up on his feet and bolting out the door before he could think twice.
He just made it outside behind the building before the contents of his stomach emptied into the grass.
Gale leaned against the bricks, heaving, tears streaming down his face.
God, how he hated it. The lack of control, the inability to stop it. Forced to endure until it’s over.
He felt himself drop to the ground, curling into his own body, trying to slow his breathing. Trying to get rid of that awful scratchy feeling in the back of his throat.
He blindly wiped at his face with the bottom of his tshirt, hoping he hadn’t been loud or interrupted anyone’s sleep.
It reminded him too much of the terrible nights of his childhood, fresh bruises already blackening around his cheek, under his ribs, the pain swirling behind his eyelids causing the sickness before little Gale could get it under control.
“Buck?” A voice called out, whispering, but still too loud for the dead of night.
Gale didn’t have the energy to respond.
Footsteps grew near.
“Buck! Hey,” a body crouched near him, gentle hands settling on his shoulders, like a blanket.
When Gale didn’t lift his head immediately, Bucky, softly, barely touching him, placed his rough hand on Gale’s cheek, calling the other man to meet his eyes.
When John felt the wetness of tears under his palm, his brows furrowed further in concern, if that were possible.
“Hey, doll, what’s the matter?” He whispered.
Gale must’ve been really really tired. The term of endearment didn’t seem out of place, it didn’t jolt his system the way it would in any other instance, it just seemed right.
As if he were expecting John to call him that.
A second hand moved, so Buck’s face was effectively caged in by John’s grasp. It was only then he realized the heat Gale’s skin was radiating.
“You’re burning up, Gale. We need to get you back into bed.”
Gale finally lifted himself from his hiding place, meeting John’s eyes. He’d never seen that kind of worry there before.
“You called me Gale.” He mumbled before he could think about it.
John huffed a laugh, shaking his head.
“Because I knew it would get you to pay attention.” He stands, and gently places one of Buck’s arms around his own broad shoulders.
“I can walk.” He mumbled, yet disproving his own point when he practically slumped into John with all his body weight, tucking his face into his neck. Gale huffed, wanting to be embarrassed, but finding he was rather annoyed at relying on John for yet another thing. Relying on anyone for anything is bad enough, but John doesn’t need a burden like him. He should be free, like a bird.
Gale is beginning to think, in the only rational part of his mind left, that there may be something wrong with him.
Maybe he’d been poisoned.
A snort followed his poor attempt at being right,
“Sure, doll. If you say so.”
Bucky practically carried him all the way back inside, he smelled like fresh air and lucky strikes with just a hint of something simply titled ‘John’, it could never be recreated, Buck knows.
Once settled under his blankets, warm and content, John smiles softly at him.
“Get some rest, Gale.”
“Thank you, John.” He whispered, watching the silhouette of the other man freeze and the continue his journey back to his bunk, without looking back.
A sad, pathetic sigh escaped him before he drifted off into an awful, fitful sleep.
When he woke again, he was sweating, and it was bright enough in the room to blind him when his eyes creaked opened.
Then he caught onto the silence of his surroundings. No quiet murmurs of morning. No shuffling feet.
Daylight.
Silence.
Oh God, the meeting, the mission.
“Oh, fuck.” He says before he can remember he isn’t supposed to.
He’s up and getting dressed before he can even breathe.
He’s late. He’s so incredibly late, the captain is going to have his ass.
Oh, no.
“Whoa, whoa.” A hand on his chest settles his rushed movements. “Slow your roll there, cowboy.” Bucky just walked through the door, holding, what looks like, soup in a cup?
“Bucky, I’m late. What are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be helping Curt with flight check?” Gale is confused as to why either one of them are still here talking, and why no one woke him up.
A small smile appeared on John’s face, stilling Gale once again.
“What’s with the face?”
Bucky shook his head,
“Leave it to you to be deathly ill and still be worried about flight check.”
Gale looks at him like he’s crazy, which makes it even funnier.
“I’m not sick, John.”
“Tell that to your hundred and four degree fever.”
“What-how do you-“ Buck stopped, huffing in a breath. He probably looks ridiculous, one pant leg on and no shirt, with a sock halfway rolled up his foot. “Why are you here, then? If I’m sick, you could catch it. I shouldn’t even be in here, I should stay in the med tent.” He’s babbling.
Bucky has been watching him with wide eyes. He’s never seen Gale so ruffled, and stuttering.
He’s never seen him so not put-together.
He loves it. He’s drinking up the sight like water, though he does feel a pinch of guilt and hurt that Gale had to be sick in order for him to see this side of him.
“It’s a cold, Buck. Your body just needs some rest and it’s forcing you to get it, the only way it knows how.” Bucky turned back to something that he had discarded on his bed.
“You are not late, so you can stop having a panic attack and lay back down. I already told the Captain that you were sick. It’s not contagious. And I’m not leaving you here, sick and alone.”
For once, Gale went without a fuss.
He was exhausted.
“I brought you some pills. Doc said they should help.” John said, offhand.
The words send Gale spinning into a future he’d never imagined before. One where he and Bucky are living in a nice humble house with a few acres out back. John brings home the paper from town and they gossip about the neighbors while they drink coffee in the morning, huddled together on the porch swing. Maybe a good hound at their feet.
“Buck?” That warm hand returned to his face, this time feeling his forehead.
“Jesus, Buck, I’ve never felt skin this hot.”
“Careful,” Gale huffed a laugh. “You’re gonna give a fella an ego too big for his boots.”
John seemed to think this was funny too. Fond amusement colored his eyes, clear skies on a moonlit night.
“Maybe you could use a little ego, Saint Cleven. You’re too humble.” The hand that had previously taken his temperature by touch, carded its fingers through Gale’s hair. Sweaty blond locks that had fallen over his forehead were pushed back, cool air on his face more prevalent. It felt good while at the same time, sent shivers down his spine.

SHANNON!! You know how much I love the Silver Bullets girls, so I freaked when I saw you posted this!! You also know I love angst (who doesn't, right?). So, could I possibly get Bucky x Kennedy with the prompt, "Hands off!" OR "You'll back off if you know what's good for you."
I couldn't choose which one I liked more lol!! Protective Bucky is my absolute FAV! I know it is going to be amazing!! Thank youuuu!💕🫶
MADS!!!!! HELLO MY FRIEND!!!! so lovely to see you both in the inbox and sending in this duo and prompt! :D i saw it and was immediately like - mads you are a GEM - because protective bucky IS the absolute best!!!! THANK YOU FOR THE SILVER BULLETS LOVE!!! they're my girls and are a joy to write so truly thank you :) your love and support has meant so so much!! i DO know you are an angst lover too hehe, so i decided to take a look at the earlier days of kennedy x bucky knowing one another (with extended cameos from judy and paulina - paulina who i wanted to work with more since i have written a lot of her yet), and dealing with...a rather precarious moment in which bucky is VERY MUCH being protective over the SB girls (with hints of kennedy x bucky of course because that's what makes the world go 'round). i went with the second prompt because i just couldn't help myself with that prompt - it's just too good!!! so please enjoy!!! <333333
far less losses
(a/n): you remember when judy mentioned that john egan has an 'awful soft spot for the Silver Bullets crew'? well....here we are, with bucky showing off that soft spot (which also equates to his soft spot for a certain kennedy farley) all on display. SO -- please enjoy kennedy, judy and paulina, with a bit of bucky being well....bucky haha! please enjoy and thank you again! <3
"I think it's cute!" Judy exclaimed with a smile from beside Kennedy in the mirror in the bunk room the Silver Bullets girls were camped out in, "Truly, Kenny, just even taking those few extra minutes to pull a few pieces of hair away from your beautiful face always makes you feel better."
Judy was right - and she usually was.
After a rather depleting mission that morning, Kennedy had been feeling like laying down and staring at the ceiling for the rest of the evening was her ultimate goal, but Judy Rybinski had found her and convinced her to pull on her Class-A's and take an hour or two to destress in the local pub.
Kennedy shifted herself side to side in the mirror, her thick ginger hair that was usually pulled back from her face in a poor-looking ponytail or hastily put-together braids, appreciating the extra minute Judy had taken in telling her to leave her hair down and clip up some stray pieces behind the lower part of the crown of her head.
"This looks nice." Kennedy said, her voice sounding strange at the sight of seeing herself actually looking quite pretty. Usually covered in grease, dirt and other substances that she didn't even want to know of, seeing her face so bright and clean, her brown eyes light and alive, made her smile a bit.
"You look so pretty, Kenny," Judy said from beside her in the mirror, glancing up at her with the most genuine look on her face, "seriously, you could walk in any pub in England and they'd think that it's Rita Hayworth." Kennedy couldn't help but grin at Judy's words as she took in all angles she could.
"Oh, c'mon, Judy," Kennedy said, glancing down at the ball gunner, "you could do much of the same and they'd think it's Ingrid Bergman."
"That's mighty kind of you Kenny," Judy said with a chuckle, her face glowing, "Ingrid is quite the star, isn't she? Top compliments from Kenny Farley herself."
"What can I say? I'm a miracle worker at the best of times." Kennedy said and Judy laughed again, before looking up to Kennedy softly.
"Let's go get some drinks." Judy said, "Forget about whatever the hell today was, right?"
The walk across base with the sun nearly set was quite peaceful, especially in the summer months - it almost felt like home in some weird way.
Growing up with both older and younger siblings - all brothers - she'd spent enough of her summer days outside from dawn to dusk, drinking her mother's fresh-made lemonade, peeling oranges and eating cheese sandwiches, catching frogs, playing in the streets, making a fair attempt at a ball game where she was usually one of the only girls (having brothers made you automatically a part of the line-up, even if you struck out 90% of the time, she got better though).
She'd come inside, sweating, covered in dirt and grass, with her freckles on full display and her mother would tell her to go and get herself cleaned up for dinner. And everything would smell like fresh lavender soap and soft linen, and dinner would be roasted chicken, carrots, potatoes, asparagus, all the fixings, more lemonade, cookies for desert. Her mother would have to make multiple batches just to feed all her hungry kids.
And her dad would come back from work and be cracking jokes, telling them stories from work, what he had done that day. Something about summer, at home, in Boston.
My how the times had changed from then to now.
The local town pub was a place she'd been a few times, but each time it was much of the same when she got in. It was in fact like entering a whole different world that was separated from both summer and Thorpe Abbotts.
Everything smelled like beer and smoke, there was also music playing, people dancing and without a doubt, every corner you turned, you were shaking hands with someone, introducing yourself and saying your hellos. A home away from home. And it was quite the eclectic mix - USAAF and RAF pilots and crew members all together, local town people, Land Girls. Enough of a comfort though so you could enjoy your drink and meet a new face or two.
"Pretty crowded." Judy said from beside her as they stepped inside and took their ganders around, "Never seen so many people shoved in one place."
"One too many bad missions seems to send everybody here, I won't lie, Judy." Kennedy said, reaching up to tuck some hair back over her shoulder, and letting her eyes glance around again.
"Look who decided to show up." Judy and Kennedy looked up to see Paulina, resident radio op, coming towards them, her long, dark hair elegantly curled, her red lipstick making an appearance again that reminded Kennedy starkly of their training days where Paulina was always going on about the importance of always carrying a tube of lipstick where she went. She always said that you'd never know who'd you see - Christ, Cary Grant could show up and you'll be thanking yourself for that damn tube of lipstick!
"Thought you were staying in?" Kennedy shrugged.
"Judy dragged me out. Promised to pay for a drink."
"Hey!" Judy said looking to Kennedy and teasingly shoving at her shoulder, "I didn't say a thing about paying! I told ya that you needed to get out. Destress. Ya know?" Paulina snickered and glanced to Kennedy who smirked.
"And…I didn't drag you out. I was just convincing enough to get you outta that bunk room." Judy said, "It's a good trait to have, isn't it, Pauli?"
"That's right," Paulina said, stepping forward to wrap an arm around Judy's shoulders, "let's get you two some drinks, alright? And….just so you know, Lieutenant Bradshaw offered to open a tab, so….go crazy, I don't know….I guess she could see plenty of the looks on our faces."
"She's a sweetheart." Judy said with a smile.
"She always knows," Kennedy said quietly as they moved towards the bar, "she's good like that. Reminds me of Birdie."
"She always reminds me of Birdie." Paulina said with a sad smile, "Maybe it's a sign from Birdie up above. Letting us get ourselves Annie Bradshaw as our pilot. You know?"
"I take any sorta stuff like that as a sign," Judy said as they approached the bar and called for three beers, "there's no one like Birdie, but there sure as hell isn't a soul like Annie Bradshaw."
"You ever think about what might've happened if Birdie hadn't gotten hit?" Paulina asked as the tender brought their beers and gave them a smile - Paulina took a long, hard sip before sighing, "Just….things would be so different, but we woulda never met Annie. I don't fucking know, it's weird to think about sometimes."
Kennedy and Judy exchanged quiet glances, but it wasn't like Paulina was lying. Sometimes it was weird to ponder a thing like that - if Birdie had never died and they had never met Annie. And then in moments like this, Kennedy always though that life worked to do things in ways that were always meant to be and clearly what had happened was meant to be, despite the circumstances.
And Annie Bradshaw was always meant to be Silver Bullets' command pilot in place of Birdie Faulkner.
That was one thing for sure.
"Good evening." All three of their heads turned to find one of the RAF pilots they'd seen hanging around in the weeks previous coming towards them, his eyes catching Kennedy's in a way that made her slowly shift her gaze away and sip at her drink again. She sighed. Paulina rolled her eyes.
"Evening." Paulina said slowly, lifting her mug of beer towards him before sipping it and growing quiet. Judy glanced at Kennedy, who gave her a quiet look.
Many of the men that were outside the 100th were usually nice and cordial to them. There'd been some off-handed, unneeded comments before about women in aviation, but they'd heard enough of it to ignore any sort of comment like that. They'd heard it all. For months. Some for years. Ignorance was bliss.
"You three wouldn't happen to be part of the lady crew in the 100th would you?" he asked them, sipping his beer slowly and meeting all their gazes, "I've just had quite the conversation with your Annie Bradshaw if you are. Sweet girl."
"It's Lieutenant." Kennedy offered his way, meeting his gaze again, "She's our pilot."
"Ah," the RAF - Kennedy thought he was a pilot it seemed - pilot said, with a nod, "very sweet girl." Paulina shifted beside Kennedy and sighed.
"Command pilot." Paulina muttered under her breath.
"Anything else?" Judy asked, almost sweetly, but slightly like she were undercutting his words in a way where she wanted to try and disperse the interaction as quickly as possible, "We've had a long day." The RAF pilot glanced at her and smiled, before glancing at Kennedy and Paulina.
"Long day? What ever was the matter?" he asked them and then chuckled slightly and sipped his beer again, "Right - you fly during the day, am I correct?"
"Here we fucking go," Paulina said, pushing back from the bar table, looking ready to start swinging, but Kennedy held her arm and looked to the RAF pilot again, "I swear to God, Kenny."
"We do." Kennedy said, "Why? Is there a problem with that?" The RAF pilot chuckled.
"No, no, not at all. Just curious." Kennedy leaned forward and raised a brow.
"Curious. Curious, curious, curious - what are we curious about it. We've been doing it ever since we came across the fucking pond-"
"What we're trying to say," Judy said interrupting her and giving both Kennedy and Paulina a look, "that's just what we do. We do days, you do nights. Either way, we're pounding the Germans day and night and you should be really thankful for that. You do what you all do, and we do what we do. And it works."
"You'd have far less losses." he offered, in a way that sounded condescending - it made Kennedy's skin crawl.
Far less losses.
Birdie.
Birdie invaded her mind like she always did.
"Listen, we just finished a really crappy mission," Kennedy said, leaning forward and gently wrapping an arm over Judy's shoulders and pulling her closer back from the RAF pilot, "we can pick up this conversation another time."
"Apologies, apologies," the RAF pilot said, holding up his hands in a pitiful, mock-defense, "I'm only commenting on such happenings. Nothing more."
"Commenting-" Kennedy started, but another voice entered her ears.
"Evening."
"Major." the RAF pilot said, suddenly straightening up, sticking out his hand to shake, and his eyes turning glossy, that earlier determination and confidence dwindling.
Kennedy slowly looked back over her shoulder and watched as Major Egan, the smell of beer and cologne wafting off of him, came to a stop beside the three of them there, looking towards the RAF pilot with a face that was the closest to stone-cold that there could be. And Major Egan was not the best at schooling his emotions and concealing what he was actually feeling, but he was doing a pretty damn good job right now.
"What are we talking about?" Major Egan asked, his voice deeper than Kennedy had heard it before, as he crossed his arms and straightened his back, looking directly at the RAF pilot, "Go on, don't mind me."
"Uh, well-"
"Just about our missions," Judy butted in sweetly, looking up at Major Egan, "sir, we were just discussing our….rather interesting differences. But that we bomb the Germans all the same."
"Really?" Major Egan said, almost sarcastically, his smile wide on his cheeks, his voice a crack higher, his tone one that he always had when he was trying to hide his annoyance, "Thank you for that Rybinski, really valuable information." Major Egan looked at the RAF pilot. "You should've just come and talked right with me. These ladies have had a long day. Up at 0300 and still making it out here. They don't wanna have to discuss anything with missions and all. You should know." The group fell quiet as the RAF pilot rather loudly and quite nervously slurped at his beer.
"I just knew they were apart of the lady crew. With Annie Bradshaw-"
"Lieutenant Bradshaw-" Major Egan offered.
"-and I just figured I'd have a chat with them. Never did do much talking about missions with a lady crew before."
"Oh and it's bound to be your last-" Major Egan commented.
"Sir-" Kennedy said looking to him and giving him a look as he met her gaze. Something in his eye told her that he was going to stop until this RAF pilot walked away and she was almost too tired to care if he did say something more or not.
"What's all this about a lady crew, too?" Major Egan said, "They're another one of our crews in the 100th. Did all the same training we did, same shit." Major Egan chuckled. "You wouldn't know that because you were here, what? Drinking warm beer and complaining about the sun-shining, huh? Upset it wasn't nighttime-"
"Major." Paulina said looking up at him, "Just ignore him, we were going to go find Lieutenant Bradshaw anyway."
"Nah, nah," Major Egan said, stepping forward, closer to the RAF pilot this time - the height difference was palpable, with the RAF pilot looking upwards and Major Egan looking downwards, like some sort of quiet conversation being exchanging between the two, "gotta name?"
"Uh, Langley, sir-"
"Langley." Major Egan said, with a funny tone to his voice that was clearly making fun of the way the RAF pilot had said it, "Where the hell you from, Langley?"
"Birmingham. Sir."
"Oh, you're gonna start calling me sir, now, huh?" Major Egan said glancing back at the group of the three of them and grinning that sarcastic, shit-eating grin and pointing over his shoulder, "He called me sir, what a fucking character." Major Egan turned back to the RAF pilot and let his face grow cold.
"The crew is Silver Bullets and they're apart of the 100th just like myself," Major Egan said, "and they've had a long day. All of us have, got it? So, you'll back off if you know what's good for you. And leave these ladies alone and run along to you and your British friends, alright? Get yourself some warm beer, too."
"It's not really super warm-"
"You drink warm fucking beer." Major Egan said with a look, hands on his hips this time, "Go on."
Slowly Kennedy glanced back at the RAF pilot and watched as his brain seemed to rewire, licking his lips quickly as he did so, before retreating like a dog with its tail between its legs. The three of them watched as Major Egan watched the RAF pilot turn to leave, ducking out of the pub with the beer in his hand. Major Egan turned to them, a grin on his face, clearly satisfied with the words that had left his lips and then met her gaze.
"What a guy," Major Egan said, as Kennedy held his gaze, her cheeks heating slightly as she looked back to her beer sat, the glass practically melting on the beer and sighed, "these RAF pilots got a set to be saying stuff like that to you all."
"He said he talked to Lieutenant Bradshaw, sir," Judy said looking up to Major Egan who leaned up the bar beside her, "called her a sweet girl and all. He couldn't even seem to fathom the idea of Annie flying planes." Judy chuckled and looked to Major Egan again. "He probably would've fainted on the spot to hear that we actually are pretty efficient as an all-female bombing crew." Major Egan chuckled at her words and raised a hand for a beer.
"Got that right, Rybinski." Major Egan said with a smile Judy's way before looking to Kennedy and Paulina, "Everyone doing okay after today?"
One thing Kennedy always appreciated with their leaders was that they recognized the toll missions like that took on people - whether if they showed it on their faces or not, their eyes always spoke in ways they couldn't. And he could see that, that much was true.
"I have a cold beer in my hand, sir," Paulina said with a smile, "that's enough to be thankful for after today I must admit." Major Egan let the corner of his lip poke upwards and glanced at Kennedy.
"Farley." Major Egan said, his voice a drip softer than it had been when he'd first come over, "You're quiet."
"And when Kenny Farley's quiet," Judy said with a small smile, "you know the mission today was beating us more than helping us, sir." Major Egan looked to Judy with a saddened smile on his face before looking back at Kennedy.
"Just thinking about something that pilot said, sir," Kennedy said, looking to Paulina and Judy before looking back to him again, lacing and unlacing her fingers over and over again in a nervous way, "reminded me of Birdie." The group of four grew quiet at her words.
"Just when he was going on, sir, about flying night missions," Kennedy said with a nod, "something like we'd have far less losses than if we flew at night. And it just….I don't know, shit like that bothers me. Because he clearly knew about our crew sir, which meant he oughta have heard about Birdie." Major Egan's eyes shifted to hers again, before he glanced back over his shoulder towards the doorway, shuddering his shoulders and letting out a disgruntled groan. He reached forward to take a long sip of his beer and then stood up from the bar and looked to them.
"Come find me if another one of these smucks has another fucking comment," Major Egan said, reaching up to run a hand through his dark curls on his head, before offering a smile, "no one makes comments about the Silver Bullets crew without me hearing about it, alright?" Then he turned and Kennedy couldn't help but step forward and wrap her hand around his upper arm and look up at him.
"Don't do anything stupid, sir," Kennedy said, looking up at him knowingly, "you can have your thoughts about Silver Bullets and our crew, but other people don't like the looks of a woman in the service, nor a whole bombing crew. Don't go getting yourself into more trouble than is needed, sir, alright?"
"Farley," Major Egan said, reaching up to rest a hand on her shoulder, "I've already made enough comments towards them, about them, for them to build a bridge to the States and back. Defending you all ain't much trouble." Kennedy stared at him and fell quiet. "Look, I just got a few choice words for him. That's all."
"Those choice words better involve, don't say that sorta shit like that again and then a firm goodbye and no more, sir," Kennedy said looking at him, "you don't need that face sporting anymore black eyes."
"You think I got a pretty face, Farley?" Major Egan said, looking sideways at her with that award-winning grin again, pearly whites shiny and bright, his eyes squinty, his gaze on her. Kennedy stared at him, the tops of her cheeks turning red as she suddenly felt herself stand quite still, "Go back and enjoy a drink with Stagliano and Rybinski without someone like him hanging over you. Don't worry about me." Kennedy watched him and then slowly nodded.
"Thanks for that back there by the way, sir," she said, quicker than she wanted, her eyes holding his, "it was a long day, with the mission and all. We just wanted a night out without thinking about it, sir, ya know?" Major Egan smiled and bumped her shoulder.
"Think of it as free entertainment." Major Egan said with a grin, before nodding towards the door, "Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to head out for a bit. Enjoy your beer." He quirked out a grin. "You should wear your hair like that more often." And with that, he was stepping away, running his hand through his own hair and stepping outside the pub again. Kennedy watched him go, her cheeks flaming red - the fact he had noticed her hair was enough for her to swallow it down and forget about it. She turned and slid back to the bar, in between Paulina and Judy.
"What'd he say?" Paulina asked, bumping her shoulder, "Looked pretty damn happy about telling that guy off."
"I think he's probably gonna take a punch to the face, but he's going to go send the message home it seems." Kennedy said quietly as Judy giggled, "What?"
"The look on his face when he saw you weren't the happiest camper, oh Kennedy, it was real sweet." Judy said as Kennedy sipped her beer and ignored the swirl in her stomach and crimson on her cheeks, "He's just sweet on us, you know that. They all are. They'd defend us tooth and nail any day."
"See," Paulina said, leaning towards Kennedy and dropping her voice so only Kennedy and Judy could here, "could've put on that tube of red lipstick even just for him."
"Pauli!" Kennedy admonished and Judy giggled.
"You ain't ever gonna forget it, Kenny, never!"

again, fight me for this, but i don't think bucky really took the name back. it is still there, just a simple "buck", well it has always been there for the both of them. from the very start he has already decided that name would belong to gale and gale only; there's no point in taking it back, but he'll preserve it for himself only. because both john and gale knows he would never return to that "buck". it's simply just existing there.

Another moment of John being protective of Gale that I forgot to include:
Giving him his lucky deuce before his first mission 🥹
The way that John was always trying to protect Gale…
After Gale’s first mission when he asks Bucky why he didn’t tell him what it was like up there and Bucky said he didn’t know what to say…He didn’t tell him what combat was like because he wanted to protect him for as long as he could from that terror. And how he stares at Gale as he watches him in interrogation afterwards looking so traumatized and you can just feel how John was angry that he couldn’t shield Gale from the horrors of war.
Then he convinces Harding to let him fly in the next mission in a fake position just so he can be up in the air with Gale. And is constantly checking on him the entire time, freaks out when Buck gets hit and takes over as the gunner so he can take out the Luftwaffe himself so that they don’t hit Buck again. He keeps asking for updates on Buck and visibly sighs in relief and relaxes when he’s told he’s still up in the air. Then he nervously paces back and forth once he’s landed waiting for Buck to come back and his face lights up in a big smile of happiness and relief, saying “better late than never” when he sees Buck’s plane coming in.
Then when he’s in London on his weekend pass when Gale gets shot down he has his enormous breakdown and is obviously kicking himself for having left Gale alone for that mission and not having gone with him. He’s ready to avenge his death (more than fine with the idea of bombing women and children over it) and go on a suicide mission, actually hoping he gets shot down too in the process. Hoping that if Gale’s still alive he’ll find him in the stalag and that if he’s not, well then John hopes he also doesn’t make it because there’s no point in him living or fighting this war without Gale.
Then when they are reunited in the stalag and on the march, his first instinct when they try to escape is to protect Gale and tell him to run and to fight off an armed Nazi guard with a gun so that he doesn’t shoot Gale. He is once again willing for sacrifice his own life for Gale’s.
In conclusion, John C. Bucky Egan was willing to die for Gale W. Buck Cleven and put his life on the line multiple times in order to protect him and save his life. Because Gale Cleven is John Egan’s baby. His babydoll. His love. THE love of his life. His everything. His reason to live and to fight.
#he gave him his lucky deuce!!!!!! 🥺🥲#BECAUSE HE WAS TRYING TO PROTECT HIM#clegan#clegan gifs#buck x bucky#mota#mota gifs#masters of the air#john bucky egan#john egan#bucky egan#gale buck cleven#gale cleven#buck cleven

I finally worked up the courage to write again. I was inspired by @joeyalohadream and how she never gives up! I’m not sure if this is any good, but I’m tossing out into the void anyway. It’s a start to something I left hanging on AO3 back in May.
Gale awakens abruptly to a body on fire. The pain is so intense that he can barely move. He doesn’t want to move. His eyes remain closed but his brow furrows in confusion and he immediately tenses in fear. The viscous cycle of pain continues on, triggering his mind to go back in time. Trading one hell for another.
His father must have gone on another bender last night. When James Cleven goes out drinking, Gale always ends up taking the hit. Literally.
“No, Dad, no,” Gale moans weakly. “I’ll be good.”
Bucky startles awake as Gale thrashes in his arms. Despite the slight slur in his words, Bucky can understand what he’s saying with absolute clarity and his heart plummets.
“Buck,” Bucky whispers in his ear, “you gotta be still. You’re safe now. I’ve got you. Shhhh. You’re ok. You’re safe.”
Bucky gently strokes Buck’s sweaty hair back from his forehead, repeating the soothing motion to try and calm the smaller man panicking in his arms.
The words “Buck, still and safe” break through Gale’s consciousness and he stills with a sharp inhale of breath.
Gale slowly cracks open his matted eyelids, unsure of exactly what scene will greet him. Was he dreaming his father or was he real? He’s relieved to see John Egan’s very concerned face peering over him from above. It’s still dark wherever they are but John’s face glows in the flicker of a firelight.
“Whaa,” he attempts to speak, the words slurring on his swollen and misshapen lips. Gale is frustrated.
“It’s ok, Buck. Don’t try to talk. You’re ok. Well, I guess that’s subjective at the moment,” John whispers with a concerned grimace.
It all comes flooding back to Gale. The failed escape attempt, being made an example of by the German Commandant and being beaten down in front of his men.
Weakness. He could feel weakness in his bones, especially the broken ones.
He’d been beaten down to a bloody pulp in front of his men. He had been raised by his father to never show a bit of weakness and now here he was, literally being cradled in his best friend’s arms like a baby.
If his father could see him now he’d be ashamed.
“Mmmmppphhhhh.”
“Mmmmppphhhhh.”
That sound, it kept happening. What was it? Where was it coming from? He realized with embarrassment that the sound that was more like a moan of pain - was coming from him.
Bucky tightened his hold on him. “Buck, easy now. Your only job right now is to rest. We are in for the night. The Colonel has us all set up nice and toasty, ok? All the men have been taken care of, including you. I need you to be still and settle down. You don’t need to do a thing but go back to sleep.”
He had so many questions. As if he could sense them, John continued.
“We will continue the march in the morning. I know it’s going to be tough on you. I’ll be there to help, so will all the guys. I promise we won’t let you fall, Buck. I let you go down twice on my watch now and I’m not letting it happen again.”
Gale knew in his heart that he was in no shape to walk for miles in the blowing snow, wind and below freezing temperatures that would be required of him but he didn’t have the heart to tell that to John. He never could disappoint John. So he took as deep of a breath as his broken ribs would allow and said, “K, Jo’nny.”
He feels a gentle kiss on top of his head that makes him smile and he allows himself to once again drift away.
He dreams of planes on fire.

Summary: Bucky is feeling down, and you're the only one who can bring him back to himself. Warnings: smut (18+, minors don't interact), fingering. Notes: Let me know if you'd like me to write any specific scenarios or stories :) reblogs and comments are appreciated!
Major John Bucky Egan was devastated. The news of Buck not returning from his last mission spread quickly at the base camp. You saw people try to talk to him and cheer him up in their own way, but Bucky was drenched in alcohol most of the time and with huge dark bags under his eyes. You decided it was your turn to try and bring his hopes up. Couldn't hurt.
You knocked on his door, calling out his name from the outside.
Bucky lifted his head from where he sat at the table, looking up at you with slightly bleary eyes. He cleared his throat as he pulled himself together, trying to sober up in mere seconds. "Yeah?" he asked, his voice gruff. You peered inside his room.
You knew he would brush you off if you asked if he was okay. Instead, you made him believe you needed him. "Do you mind if I come in and stay with you for a little? I can't sleep."
Bucky paused for a moment, seeming just tired enough to fall for your trick. He shifted slightly in his seat, nodding slowly as he sat up. "Yeah. Yeah, come here." he pointed to his bed. "Sit with me."
"Thanks." you spoke as you closed the door behind you and sat next to him.
Bucky watched wordlessly as you sat down next to him, leaning forward and resing his elbows on his knees. He was quiet for a moment before he spoke. "You said you couldn't sleep?" he questioned, tilting his head slightly so he could look at you.
You nodded. "Yeah... I had coffee, more than one cup."
He chuckled lightly, running a hand through his messy hair. "Yeah, that'll do it to ya. Caffeine's a cruel mistress like that."
"Well, I wanted some. So I had it."
"And now you have to suffer the consequences." he mused along, taking a few moments to look you over. "You look tired." he pointed out, as if it wasn't obvious.
"Thanks." you chuckled.
Bucky smirked ever so slightly, rolling his eyes. "You know what I mean. You look exhausted. When was the last time you got a full night of sleep?"
You looked at him for a second before answering. "It's been a while, actually. The infirmary's been a complete chaos lately."
His expression softened, a flicker of concern in his eyes. "When's the last time you clocked off?" he asked, a hint of protective tone in his voice.
You looked at him for a while. "It's been a couple of weeks, but it's alright, we're short on staff! And it's not like I haven't done it before!"
That answer didn't seem to appease Bucky at all. His lips pressed into a firm, unamused line and he fixe you with a stern look. "Bullshit. It's not alright. You're runnin' yourself into the ground. How many hours did you work this week?" he inquried.
"I'm not exactly counting."
Bucky sighed in frustration, shaking his head. "Of course you're not." He paused for a moment, studying you. You could almost see the gears turning as he thought about what to say next. "When's the last time you ate?" he finally questioned.
"C'mon John, I'm eating alright." you insisted.
The Major shot you a doubtful look, his expression serious. "I'm being serious. You look like you haven't had a proper meal in weeks. When's the last time you ate a full meal?"
"Maybe you can eat lunch with me tomorrow."
"I'm not asking that." he said with a sigh, his voice just barely above a whisper. "I want to know when the last time you ate a full goddamn meal was. Tell me the truth."
You looked at the door. "Yesterday, I think."
Bucky raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical of your response. "Yesterday?" he repeated. "You think?"
"Bucky, I'm alright. I'm just really tired."
His irritation grew tenfold at this, his patience at an all-time low. "You ain't alright, you're being reckless." he retorted gruffly. "Look at you, you look like a damn zombie. 'I'm just tired' my ass."
You let the room fall silent for a few seconds. "And how are you?" you finally decided to ask.
Bucky almost froze at the question. He was a mess, even he could see that for himself. For a moment, he thought about brushing off your question. Giving the standard, generic answer. But he couldn't. He knew how he was, and you deserved the truth more than anything. "Like garbage." he finally admitted, quietly after a few moments.
"I'm worried about you Bucky." you began. "You barely come by the infirmary anymore."
He lokoed down, docusing his eyes on his hands as you spoke. "I've been busy." he mumbled half heartedly, knowing damn well it was a blatant lie.
"Too busy to visit me?" you simply asked.
Bucky internally winced at that, his heart aching. "No." he said, his voice cracking slightly from guilt. "I- I just... it's hard, y'know?"
You nodded. "I get it. I can go by just fine without your visits." you tried to win him over with humor.
It seemed to work, even just slightly. He lifted his head, looking at you with a tired hino of playful sarcasmo in his eyes. "Is that so?" he questioned, a soft smile on his face.
"Oh I'm sure of it. It's been real peaceful without you pestering me at work."
He huffed, a soft chuckled escaping his lips. "That's rich, coming from you. You're always bugging me." he pointed out, shifting in his seat to get a different angle of you.
"But that you love."
"You're making that up." Bucky denied, though his smirk didn't falter. He tried so hard to ignore the flutter in his heart he got as he looked at you - his gaze almost involuntarily flicking down for a moment to your lips.
"I don't think I am." you smiled at him.
He paused, his heart giving another flutter as he saw you smile. It'd been a while since he'd seen that smile. He chuckled softly, shaling his head and running his hand through his hair. "You drive me crazy, you know that?"
Your expression of surprise came quickly to your face. After a few seconds in silence you spoke again. "You're drunk." You chuckled at him.
Bucky let out another soft huff at that, but he didn't deny it. "Maybe a little." he admitted, that smirk on his face returning. "And what about it?"
"You're not making sense, that's what."
Bucky raised an eyebrow at that, looking at you with an amused expression. "And what about it doesn't make sense?" he asked, tilting his head slightly. "I said you drive me crase. You do."
"Bucky..." you started but he interrupted you as he got closer to you, before grabbing your hand gently.
His calloused hand wrapping around yours like it belonged there. He was quiet for a moment, looking at you with a mixture of affection and something else you couldn't quite put your finger on. He almost looked a little nervous.
"Are you okay?" you asked.
Another loaded question.
He opened his mouth to answer but stopped himself. His gaze falls from your face down to his hand holding yours. Bucky was quiet for a few more moments, his grip on your hand almost imperceptibly tighter. His tongue darted out to lick his lips, the words stuck in his throat. He took a shaky breath, lifting his gaze back up to your face. "No. " he finally said, shaking his head slightly as he did. "I'm not okay." His expression serious. "But you make it hurt a little less."
Bucky's eyes flicked back and forth, analising your features. He sighed softly, his guard completely down. "Look at me." he softly insisted, his voice barely above a whisper.
You did as he asked, first his eyes and then his lips. God, he was handsome, specially under the dim lights of his room.
"You have no idea," he said, his voice low, "how hard it was to stay away from you the past few weeks."
His hand kept around your own as he spoke. He could be so gentle if he wanted to. Bucky softly tun his thumb in small circles against the back of your hand, trying to focus on that instead of the growing urge within himself. "I missed you so damn much." he murmered, his voice just barely above a whisper.
You cut him off by closing the gap between your lips.
He let out a soft, almost involuntary sound as he returned the kiss, his free hand moving to cup your face. His hand fently tugged you closer, as if he was afraid you'd pull away.
In turn, you grabbed his uniform's shirt tight between your fingers, pulling him closer to you.
Any thoughts of restraint or resistance melted out of Bucky's brain the moment he felt you grab him. His hand moved to your waist, his grip firm as he pulled you into his lap. "God, I missed you." he mumbled against your lips.
You didn't respond, just climbed on his lap and grabbed the nape of his neck with both your hands, never breaking the kiss you two shared.
Bucky let out another soft sound as you did. His hands sliding to your hips, the feeling of your body against his nearly overwhelming. He kissed you passionately, his tongue gently running along your bottom lip as if he was pleading for more.
He broke your kiss only to kiss your neck, your head rolled back as he catched it with one of his hands.
Bucky's kisses gently yet firm, as he moved along your skin. He could hear the sound of your breath catching in yout throat, his brain nearly short-circuiting from yout little sounds of pleasure.
One of his hands found its way under your dhirt, his fingers tracing along the warm skin of your back.
His hands were rough on your back, but you didn't mind it.
Bucky's lips returned to yours, his kisses a bit more desperate now. He wanted to be closer to you, to have your body against his. One of his hands slid up your body, gently resting against your ribcage. His thumb lightly teased against the underside of your breast.
His touch sent shivers through your whole body.
He broke the kiss for a moment, his chest heaving with want. "You're so damn Beautiful." he murmured, his hand gently gripping your hip as he kept you against him.
You moaned quietly at his words, the way he was holding you down on his lap by your hips was making you dizzy.
He noticed your reaction, the soft sounds of your monas driving him wild. He used his grip on your hip to push you down to grind against him slightly, a soft smirk on his face. "You like that?" he asked, his voice gruff.
You nodded out of desperation.
Bucky let out a soft chuckle, rolling his hips against you to give you a but more friction. "You can't even speak, huh?" he taunted you lightly.
"I can speak." you managed to say quietly.
"Then try sayin' something." he mumbled against the skin of your neck, continuing to push his hips against you ever so slightly.
"Your hands." you pleaded him.
You heard his groan, his grip on your hips tightening as he took in your request. "What about my hands?" he mumbled, his lips moving down from your neck to your collarbone.
You let go of his neck to grab his right hand and position it near your core.
He could feel the heat practically radiating from you, the thought alone nearly sending him over the edge. His fingers gently traced along the edge of your pants, as if he was silently asking you for permission to continue. You gave it to him.
Bucky wasted no time. He was a man of action after all.
He pushed your pants to the Side, his fingertips ghosting along your soaked core. He let out another soft moan against your skin, the feeling of you driving him crazy. "You're so wet, darling." he mumbled as he started to rub small circles, moving slowly to work you up even more.
Your reactions, the little sounds you were making, the way you were grinding against his hand - it was almost too much for him to handle. His fingers teased at your entrance, occasionally slipping inside to drive you absolutely crazy. "I could listen to you all night." he mumbled, his voice low and rough with want.
"John" you trailed off.
Bucky lifted his head from your neck to look at you, his fingers still working at you. "Yeah?" he breathed out, doing his damned bect to keep some control of himself.
"I need you."
Bucky practically groaned at the sound of your voice, the want in your tone nearly making his head spin with a primal need to bury himself inside you. "Say it again." he told you breathlessly, adding a second finger inside you.
You only managed to moan louder.
"God you sound perfect." his lips just below your car. "I need you so bad it hurts."
"Please" you whined quietly.
"You don't ever have to ask me please." his voice sincere.
He lifted his head to look at you, his breathing ragged. His fingers curling slightly on their own, making you let out another delicious sound.
"Make me come." the words come out of your tired mouth.
He moved his fingers faster, adding a third, knowing exactly what to do based on the sounds you were making. "I'll take care of you. "he assured you. "I'll take care of you, I promise."
And he did. In a matter of seconds, you were coming undone on top of his lap.
Bucky watched intently as you came, his fingers working you through it. He then gently removed his hand, bringin it to his mouth and licking his fingers clean with a low moan.
His free hand moved to gently brush the hair from your face, his thumb tracing your cheek as he looked at you with affection and desire.
You looked down at him after that. "What is it?"
Bucky chuckled, gently lifting your chin for you to look at him. "You look so damn beautiful when you're all flushed like this." he told you, a hino of pride in his voice as he added, "I did that."
"Yes you did." you chuckled quietly.
His smiled returned, his hand moving to cup your cheek ever so gently. He was quiet for a moment, just studying you as he tried to find the right words. "I've been a real idiot, sweetheart." he finally said, his voice soft. "I shoud've come by sooner..."
"Don't worry about that."
"I do worry. You've gotta stop lettin' me be a dumbass, you know that?"
"Me?" you chuckled. "I have nothing to do with that!"
Bucky's grip on you tightened, his expression still serious. "Bullshit." he insisted, shaking his head. "You have everything to do with that. You could set me straight if you wanted to, I'd listen to you in a heartbeat."
You smiled at him. "The I'll be wiser with my choices from now on."
John returned your smile with a smirk, his hand moving to rest against the side of your neck. "Damn right you will be." he told you, tugging you closer to him. "Gotta make up for lost time, sweetheart."

Because the Night
The atmosphere in the pub was already in full swing by the time Major Bucky Egan led his group to the table Tommy saved for them.
“Jesus, it’s like those paratroopers never seen a woman before.” Curt wiped his uniform jacket, “They took one look at [y/n] and it was like Niagra Falls.”
Taking the seat Bucky held out for her, [y/n] thanked him as she sat.
“I think Ol’ Faithful Geyser at Yosemite might be a better choice Curt.” Buck replied taking a seat across from Bucky.
“Yeah, yeah whatever cowboy.” Looking at the expectant faces of Bucky and Buck, Curt sighed “Yes, Bucky I wouldn’t mind getting the drinks. Why thank you Buck, I am the kindest man in this bar.”
Ignoring Curt and Buck, Bucky leaned in closer to [y/n] watching the paratrooper across the bar tense. “So, who is he?”
Major Bucky Egan was not shocked that men looked at [y/n]. She was not only one of the few women around, but she was as pretty as a picture. And she knew it, hell it was on the reasons Bucky liked her. Her beauty caught his eye but her self assured nature drew him in. So while he didn’t love the looks men gave her in general, the look of recognition and remorse in this paratrooper in particular sent air raid sirens through his mind.
Twisting her earring with a sigh, [y/n] met Bucky’s inquisitive gaze. “My ex.”
Raising his eyebrows as if to ask for confirmation of what he just heard, [y/n] nodded to the brunette. From across the table Major Buck Clevens sat up straight as he watched the growing opposing demeanor of the pair. One that spoke of apathy while the other spoke of interest in the topic.
“Who we fightin’?” Dropping the drinks on the table, Curt rejoined the trio, “Bucky’s got that rabble rouser look on his face.”
“The ginger at 12 o’clock doing a shitty job at secretly surveying [y/n].” Buck drawled watching Bucky attempt to catch the ginger’s eye. Major Gale Clevens knew John Egan well enough to know when he was looking for a fight. Gale had seen John protective over his friends and his men, so he could only imagine what he would be like over his unofficial girl.
“No shit? Want me to fuck him up for you?” Turning around in his seat, Curt assessed the paratrooper and his friends. “There’s only four of them, we can easily take ‘em.”
[y/n] leaned back in her chair contemplating the situation she found herself in. Before she had walked into the bar, her biggest concern was how she was going to keep Bucky from serenading her tonight. But walking in and seeing her ex’s face and John’s reaction threw that concern right out of the window.
“While that is sweet of you Curt, no. It’s been two years, I’m long over him and if anyone should be scared, it should be him. I’m not the one who cheated.” Since their breakup, she hadn't put much thought into her ex or dating. And it certainly wasn’t because she was still in love with him. Rather the war broke out and she joined the WAC leaving her with little time or interest to date. Or that had been the case until Major John Egan swaggered his way onto Thorpe Abbotts base.
“That fucker… makes me wanna punch him more now.”
“If it makes you feel better Curt, I broke his nose when I found him cheating.”
“Atta girl.” Buck chuckled while sipping his ginger beer. He expected nothing less from the spitfire who stole his best friend’s heart.
“Didn’t you say you were getting harassing letters from an ex?” The arm that had been carelessly thrown over the back of her chair suddenly wrapped around [y/n]’s shoulder pulling closer to John.
“I was exaggerating, John. It was just a letter!” Placing her hand over his, [y/n] squeezed his hand in a silent plea. “Please don’t do anything stupid...” Looking for Buck for support, [y/n] was however, met with the profile of the blonde major.
Bucky chuckled as he watched [y/n]’s attempt to deter him. While he and Gale Clevens may have been opposites, Buck was a true friend. And true friends let other friends knock out the guy bothering his girl. “Won’t be considered anything stupid if it comes to you, sweetheart.”
Between the protective glint in his eyes and baritone voice, [y/n]’s heart began hammering in her chest. Grounding herself in the contrast of his rough hands against her softer ones, she was reminded of who Major John Egan was. “Look if he comes this way then you can be my knight in shining armor but right now can we just go back to flirting and listening to Curt rewrite a story about how amazing his flying is?”
Curt put hands up in defense. “Hey, I am amazing at flying and I don’t rewrite stories, I just…embellish them.”
Hooking an arm around Curt’s neck, Buck tapped a fist against Curt’s chest. “Oh embellish, what a big word for you Curt.”
Deciding that it had been far too long since he had her attention all to himself, John Egan tucked an escaped curl behind her ear before leaning in to whisper. “…So you are flirting with me, Lieutenant? Keep that up and someone might think you like me.”
The warmth of his body and the smell of his aftershave left her all but lightheaded. They had unofficially officially been an item since his second day at the base. When she decided to share her umbrella and laughter with the handsome hapless Major who lost the battle and a shoe to the English mud.
“Oh the horror Bucky…”
“Oh, calling me Bucky, you must really want me to do this for you.” Caressing her the inside of her wrist, John considered if tonight would be the night he could kiss her like he always wanted to. As a promise for it their last first kiss because the night belongs to lovers like them.
“I’ll call you whatever you want as long as you don’t start a bar brawl.” [y/n] supplied in response watching the smile light up across his face, knowing she had opened a can of worms. But she couldn’t say she regretted it; Bucky Egan was the sun and she basked under his warmth.
“Oh, with a request like that how can I say no?… for now.” Sharing in her laughter, John placed a lingering kiss on her cheek.
Sipping his whiskey, John turned back to the group and sought counsel on his new dilemma. “What do you think boys, handsome, the way to go? No, maybe I should go with pretty boy? No, too soft. Mhmm, how about my darling future husband? Now that has a nice ring to it!”
A/N: I apparently have a thing for hand holding... I appreciate any and all feedback!
