Concept: a "Secret" setting programmed into Izuku's Suit, that's like a Berzerker mode, or maybe "Dark Deku" mode.

Activates when the suit detects heightened vitals, like heartbeat, oxygen levels, breath, maybe decibels of his voice?

So when Izuku is in his moments of high intensity/anger/rage, basically, when he loses his shit *cough*Katsuki being in danger*cough*, "Dark Deku" mode activates and the suit adapts to protect him further.

Like, extra plates add themselves to his armor, more buffer and aid to joints, there's a sort of "overdrive" effect that makes him faster and more effective. To the outside observer, it looks like this mode makes Izuku more offensive, and yes it does make his attacks stronger...but in actuality, it's mostly a defensive setting, designed first and foremost to protect Izuku.

The only thing is that it will drain the energy faster and he will have to recover.

It was probably a brainchild of Bakugou and Hatsume, bc on Katsukis end, he knows how insane Izuku can get given certain circumstances, and Hatsume having observed countless videos of Izuku's fighting and noticing that one of Izukus strongest trump cards, his OFA rage, would also end up being a huge risk to a Quirkless hero in a suit. They both would have to agree that in those moments, Izuku would need extra support, bolstering, and protection.

Hatsume would relish in the challenge, and Bakugou would sleep better at night if he knew that Izuku would be safe even if he flew into a rage.

Speaking of the energy of the suit, I think it'd be cool of they programmed it to be sort of self charging, like a hybrid car is. Maybe in some way, Hatsume replicates Fa Jin and doubles it as a kinetic energy generator.

Gonna write some meta about ch 431

After inferring Izuku could be by his side if he wanted to, and him indirectly telling Izuku he’s the standard he holds everyone to going unnoticed… it seems to me like Kacchan is releasing Izuku… for now. “If everyone is special then no one is special”… this kinda ties into what Shigaraki said to Katsuki for me. I get the impression that Kacchan believes in his core, that Izuku treats everyone special and Shigaraki had mistaken CYH for “extra special treatment” when, in Katsuki’s mind, loving and protective is really just how Izuku is to everyone.

The dig back at Kacchan for not thinking higher of himself or not noticing “obvious things” (Izuku’s feelings) is pretty sussy and very open to interpretation. It feels like they’re both not risking anything to explore the possibility for more. They’re mirroring each other’s hesitation.

This dynamic is basically inferred later, when Katsuki comments “peaceful idiots” at Kaminari and Jirou who are not taking a leap of faith to start a relationship themselves. “Lame losers” doesn’t really capture the nuance of Katsuki’s feelings towards himself and Izuku. Heiwa boke… two idiots not reflecting upon their obvious feelings for one another - all to keep a harmonious relationship describe bkdk to a T.

BnHA Chapter 424: Detroit Tears

Previously on BnHA: You know what, fandom is way too heated about this still so we’re just going to leave that be that for now and not get involved. I have some conflicted feelings about it, but this is not the place or time. This is a happy post.

Today on BnHA: Oh right, Horikoshi still owns the rights to my soul. And I’ve just been reminded of why I willingly signed them over to him so freely.

Quick heads up that this isn’t going to be my usual style of chapter reaction post, in that it’s really just going to be a ton of rambling about That One Scene. Partly because I’m only halfway caught up with stuff, but mostly because tbh, this is the only thing that matters to me right at this moment.

Also this is your friendly neighborhood spoiler warning that I’m posting about a chapter which hasn’t officially been released yet! So proceed at your own discretion. This reaction is based on @pikahlua’s excellent spoiler translation writeup here. I’ve officially lost all of my fucks about spoilers and it’s extremely liberating.

I’m glad that Kacchan’s arm isn’t just magically better and that he’s never going to be 100% again. and also that the doctor mentions him needing to rest his heart as well. because I did feel like there needed to be at least a few lasting consequences from him LITERALLY DYING AND UNDERGOING OPEN-HEART SURGERY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BATTLEFIELD. but I’m also glad they established that it wasn’t career-ending or anything. he’ll probably have some chronic pain and occasionally aggravate his old injuries while fighting, all of which is great for angst purposes. but it was good to see him being calmly accepting of that while also being determined to put the work in to rehab it as much as possible.

also enjoyed the doctor summing up Kacchan’s highly improbable main character resurrection and subsequent antics as basically being some wild bullshit that nobody can explain. lampshaded the shit out of it. “I don’t really understand” lol. nobody understands. in truth it’s that his secondary quirk is bending reality to his will in order to kick ass.

moving on to the main event now! so Kacchan and Izuku’s reunion was obviously the highlight of this chapter and of my life, probably. I’m not gonna sit here and pretend like it wasn’t. y’all know how it is.

what really made this scene for me was Kacchan being more upset at Izuku’s loss than Izuku himself. all those callbacks and all that guilt. that careful selection of flashback panels. the fact that Kacchan’s past bullying of the quirkless Izuku wasn’t glossed over or forgotten, and in fact is the emotional core that fuels Kacchan’s reaction here. Horikoshi didn't have to cut that deep, but he knows what he's about.

and then the crying. I need to write a lot of words about this right the fuck now. first off, having Kacchan just flat out sob while Izuku for once is the calm one (at least until All Might goes in for the emotional kill later on), is such a beautiful reversal and really shows how far they’ve come. even better is that none of it was even remotely out of character. I’m always appreciative when an author can produce top tier emotional hurt/comfort like this and have it feel earned and authentic rather than forced. well done.

also, “Na--cchan!!” fuck yeah Izuku. we’ll never let him live this down. (but also, him later trying to reconcile his forever-tough image of Kacchan with the crying, hiccupping version standing in front of him, by blaming it on Kacchan’s weakened physical state... oh, Izuku.)

also the fact that Kacchan so easily reverts to this smol crying boy even after defeating the world’s greatest evil pretty much activated every protective instinct that I have. he’s seventeen. he’s practically a man now. he’s objectively one of the strongest and toughest people in the entire world. and yet his eyes still go so wide and his face is still so young and Horikoshi still draws him so tiny and vulnerable whenever he’s like this. goddamn gets me EVERY single time. let’s be real, it’s been this way ever since the “you looked like you needed saving” scene back in the literal first chapter. just, omg. he’s still just a kid and he’s too small to contain all these feelings SOMEONE HELP HIM.

anyway so NEEDLESS TO SAY, Kacchan full on mourning in between sobs because he wanted to keep being rivals with Izuku cut me to my core. I cried too, goddammit. because in Katsuki’s mind it’s like. he wasted a dozen years of potential friendship by being a giant asshole. and they were only able to start getting things back on track less than a year ago. and that was probably the best year of both of their lives. and that rivalry meant so much to both of them. pursuing their dreams together as equals. and he wanted it to continue!! he missed out on so much, and it was his own damn fault, and now it’s all being taken away again maybe!!

and I think it’s especially devastating to Katsuki because he was trying so hard to make up for how he treated Izuku, and then this comes along and now he’s worried it was all for nothing. he’s scared that Izuku will maybe have to quit being a hero. (we know that won’t happen, obviously, but Katsuki is living this and not just reading it. he’s never met narrator!Deku and doesn’t have the benefit of all that foreshadowing and stuff.) but even more than that, I think he’s scared that it will undo all of their progress toward mending their relationship. not because Katsuki thinks any less of Izuku now, quirk or no quirk; but because of how Izuku might feel about being quirkless again, and because of the memories it might bring flooding back to the surface. I don’t think Katsuki fully believes that Izuku has forgiven him. so that’s a major fear potentially rearing its ugly head once more now.

and of course, he’s also just sad and upset on Izuku’s behalf, because he knows Izuku is sad about it too, even if he’ll never show it and will just downplay it because of his selfless nature. it’s a major loss, and one deserving of tears being shed, even if Izuku won’t shed any of his.

so yeah. it’s a lot. in Katsuki’s mind it’s the potential loss of a partner (if Izuku quits heroics), and a friend (if Izuku does cool toward Katsuki as a result of being quirkless again), and a dream (of them reaching the highest heights together), and his friend’s dream. so it makes perfect sense that all of that would overwhelm him. all of this is stuff that’s broken him down on past occasions as well.

so anyway it’s going be very cathartic when all those fears prove to be unfounded (because they better be unfounded lol). but in the meantime it’s a very moving reminder of how much he really does care and how far the both of them have come.

also Horikoshi really couldn’t resist giving Nobu one last chance to destroy everyone when this scene rolls up in the anime. that’s so reckless of him. there will be no survivors.

All Might telling both of them they’d become the greatest heroes was also the perfect chef’s kiss moment on top of everything else. we already knew it, of course. but it was good to hear him say it. and they needed him to say it. they needed and deserved to hear it.

and I really love that the qualities he specifically praised them for were the same things that each of them had struggled with the most in their respective journeys. he tells Izuku, who had such a difficult time learning how to tell the world “I am here!!”, that he inspires everyone and has become everyone’s hero. and he reminds Katsuki, who struggled with learning how to save people, and has especially struggled with his guilt over what happened to All Might at Kamino, that he saved All Might’s life and is the reason he’s able to still be there with them. both of them just really needed to hear that acknowledgement and encouragement, and it was such a powerful passing of the torch moment. All Might gets so much shit from the fandom, but he really is a phenomenal mentor when he’s in the zone, and I’ll die on that hill.

also a nice touch keeping the focus of those panels on the two boys and their reactions. even though I would have liked to see All Might’s face when he thanked them at the end, it definitely felt deliberate. this is their moment. their soft little tearful smiles afterwards punted my heart off a cliff and then picked it up and held it gently.

lastly, let it be known that I’m still convinced Katsuki has OFA (All Might vestige explanation when??), and it’s not lost on me that that would be a mighty convenient way for Izuku to potentially still go on a-quirkin’ in the end, if that’s how Horikoshi wants to play it. I'm just saying.

also before I forget, just a quick shoutout to Horikoshi for FINALLY showing all three members of the Bakufam in a scene together in which they finally managed to not be completely dysfunctional lol. my deepest darkest BnHA secret is that Mitsuki is secretly super high up on my list of favorite characters. and she was great in this chapter, and I love how she was just “WHAT THE FUCK” aghast at Katsuki using his main character powers to continuously ignore his injuries. and then she and Masaru kind of silently agreeing to step outside the room and let the boys and All Might have their moment. while still secretly listening in. because you know they were. good for them.

lastly for reals, I just want you all to remember that as great as this chapter was, the one thing that it was STILL missing which we have STILL not gotten is a HUG. we demand HUGS. I’m not leaving this manga till I get a bkdk hug goddammit. I will stay here all night if I have to.

Deku's possessiveness V.S. Kacchan's protectiveness

Bkdks. We've all read countless fics with bkdk pining after each other, of them getting jealous and whatnot. Usually, the fandom labels Kacchan as the possessive one and Deku as the protective one, but I (respectfully) disagree. I say that Deku is the possessive one and Kacchan is the protective one.

Now, when I say Deku is possessive and Kacchan is protective, I'm not saying that they don't have the other trait. bkdk are both protective and possessive of each other. HOWEVER, the way I see it is:

Deku is possessive. When he gets possessive, it feeds his protectiveness.

Kacchan is protective. When he gets protective, it feeds his possessiveness.

When you read fics from Deku's POV and he's seeing Kacchan being happy with someone else (both platonic and romantic), he gets possessive. Why not me, why THEM, I know him better, I've known him for LONGER, etc. There also is a kind of "indulging" in the "selfishness" of wanting Kacchan all to himself if that makes sense. Like yes, he'll feel bad about being jealous over Kacchan having friends, but also he can't bring himself to stop being jealous/possessive of Kacchan. Deku's possessiveness has the message of "I know Kacchan better than anyone else ever has/will, I've worked hard to stay by his side and I'm not gonna let some EXTRA take him from me."

However, when you read fics from KACCHAN'S POV, and he's seeing Deku being happy with someone else, he gets protective. He also kind of attacks himself in the sense of "I want the best for Deku and I am not the best. I hurt Deku countless times in countless ways, [person] hasn't hurt Deku like I have, and [they] will make Deku happier than I ever could. If they ever hurt him though [they]'re dead." Kacchan's protectiveness has the message of "I want Deku to always be happy. If he's happy with someone else, then I'm happy."

Again, Deku does have moments where his protectiveness shows more than his possessiveness. A prime example is the training camp arc, when Kacchan is kidnapped. It starts as possessive, with Deku basically going "Give my Kacchan back!" and Compress commenting on this and saying that Bakugo doesn't belong to anyone.

However, as his possessiveness increases, Deku's protectiveness also increases. He's a lot more self-sacrificial and desperate in reaching Kacchan to save him. To protect him.

On the other hand, Kacchan also has moments where his protectiveness gives way to more possessiveness than usual. The first example is when Kacchan is stabbed by Shigaraki. He sees Deku about to get severely injured, and he becomes protective and takes the hit instead of Deku. However, after getting stabbed, he says "stop trying to win this on your own." This is where his possessiveness shows, in which he's trying to fill the role of being a Symbol of Victory. "Let me be YOUR Symbol of Victory."

There's also the fact that Bakugo carries guilt because of his actions from the past. This has him being more prone to leaning away from being as possessive as Deku is because "I hurt Deku. I don't deserve him. Deku isn't mine. He doesn't belong to me, he never has." Because of this he leans more towards protectiveness in the sense of wishing for him to be always happy in the ways that he prevented when they were younger and whatnot.

Of course, during his apology, he also expresses how they all will help him. However, you also have the moment where Izuku stumbles and falls. Kacchan's protectiveness comes in as he rushes to grab him and hold him steady. Izuku apologizes for the things he says, and Kacchan says "I get it." Not we, because his possessiveness comes forth in that moment. It also comes forward when he talks to Class 1A and Endeavor.

"You know nothing about Deku."

"I know Deku more than anyone else."

Those are very possessive statements, which are very similar to Deku's possessive mentality.

However, Deku doesn't carry guilt. This has him lean more towards being possessive of Kacchan. "I've ALWAYS stuck by Kacchan, you must be stupid if you think YOU can take him from ME."

However, I also think that once bkdk enter a relationship and Kacchan truly, wholly believes that he is worthy of Deku's love and the relationship in general, he'll allow himself to be a lot more possessive. Like once he's had the realization of "Izuku deserves the best and he chose ME, and I trust his judgement so that means I'm the best for him," he'll go, "Anyone who tries taking him from me will lose a couple fingers. I bite bitch," which is how I feel a lot of people think he's like from the get-go, when that more blatant possessive comes later on.

Again, it all circles back to the good old "bkdk are two halves of a whole, they complete each other."

Win to save, save to win.

Playful

This is basically my exsucse to not work on my 3 drafts i have sitting and waiting for me to tend to...(Also to cope with my mans death in s7😭)

Summary: Izuku and Katsuki have a free day and decide to chill at the dorms, Izuku starts feeling playful after over veiwing Kastuki's phone.

It was a pretty easy day so far. The morning, well afternoon, started off calm with the smell of sweet pancakes wafting into the students dorms. Turns out All Might somebody woke up to make the kids breakfast, thanking them for their extra hard work over the week.

After breakfast the students hung around the lounge part of their dorms, soon trailing off and separating to themselves and their rooms.

Bakugou now laid at the edge of Izukus bed, the fan blasting over him as the green haired boy used some pillows to prop himself into the sitting up position at the opposite side of the bed from the explosive boy who sat a few inches away from his feet. Both scrolled on their phones, with the background noise of some old TV setting the school set out for studying.

The lights had dimmed due to the usual room light being turned off and the few lamps Izuku had on, which lit the room perfectly, his curtains blocking out the daylight exactly right. Daze layered over both of the boys comfort, making the atmopshere sympathic and protective.

As the minutes passed, both caught up in their own worlds, Izuku noticed a small movement of the mattress, a shaking of some kind. The almost unnoticable movement came from none other than Katsuki, snickering to himself as he watching some video on his device.

As Izuku adjusted his position to get a better over look of the boys phone, he deceted what looked to be a couple on Bakugous cell. The couple seemed to be cuddling with a caption that was too far for the observant freckled boy to read, there was a jerk of movement from the couple as the girl soon started to laugh and squirm from the boys hand placement under her arms. "How is that funny?" Izuku thought to himself, he didn’t understand the blonde boys humor sometimes, it often confused him.

"Stupid.." He heard the boy mumble under his breath before scrolling onto the next video. "Stupid?" He stumbled apon this for a while before using his foot to snake under Katsukis ribs, as he was laying on his side, and wiggle.

"What!" The boy jumped before shouting, the wiggling coming to a stop, annoyed asking what Deku needed. No response came, and the wiggling started back up.

"StohOP!" He twisted as the sensation nearingly blew the lid off of him. Izuku grinned, "This is funny" He stopped and pulled his foot back.

"Grr.. I’m serious, what do you-" Bakugo growled for a second, turning over to face Izuku, before he could get his last words out he was pounced on by the playful boy. They wrestled for a few minutes before another wiggle to the ribs and the blonde stopped, weakening his struggle and had himself pinned.

"Dont. You. Even. Dare!" He threated before barking out a laugh as the green haired boy stayed silent and quickly shot his fingers straight for his sides.

"I swEAR-" Izuku paid him no attetnion, where he got this intense feeling for tickling was unknown to him, he investigated Katsukis body, listening to every pitch and watching his ever jump, twitch, and squirm.

"You swear what? You know your not aloud to use foul langue in my room!" Which was true, Izuku had made a rule, if you were to swear in his room then you would have to put a tip in the swear jar. Sure it was corny and annoying to anybody hot headed who would step a foot into his room, but it was way to keep peace in the only place he could control.

“YOhoOhoU- GAHahaHA!!” The laughing boy tried to get some words out, anything to try and help him, but anything of the sort would cost a tip to go in the jar.

“Me? Me what?— Ha! Bad spot?” As Izuku messed around his torso, he inspected a particular spot between Katsukis ribs and armpits which made him go nuts.

“NONONONO!!” He screamed before falling into loud laughter and cackles. Deku starred in awe, admiring how bad this spot was to him, and how easy he could access it.

“PL-PLEAHEASE!! ITS SOHO BAHA-AAAAHH!!” He tried to get a hold or grasp of Izukus attention before the tickler sped up his fingers. Causing Katsuki to buck and squirm like a wild bull.

“You’re still ticklish here? I thought it would have gone away by the time we were still kids, Kachan!” Izuku teased, slightly laughing to himself as he noticed how flustered it made his childhood friend. Izuku slowed his fingers, moving down to his stomach.

“I-ihit doesn’t just g-goho away!” Bakugo barked out, he answered like it was obvious and he knew how bad his ticklishness was.

“Well if that spot didn’t go awayyy…” Izuku removed his fingers from Katsukis body, hovering them above it.

“NoNoNoNo! NO! Y-YOU BETTER NOT! DE-IZUKU I AM SERIOUS!” He pleaded, trying to get out of his still pinned situation, but to no avail as Izuku inched closer and closer.

“..then this one wouldn’t either!” Izuku quickly flipped Kachan over, still keeping him pinned with his hands by his side, and slowly traced around the back of his ribs.

“You know,—” Izuku trailed off trying to annoying Bakugo even more.

“NoHOhO! S-sHUT Uhahaup!!” He shook his head, squirming under the soft touch.

“I’ve realized…”

“StoHOhop TaHaAhalking!!”

“That your most ticklish,”

“ShuHAhaUT! uHauhaup!”

“Around your ribs? What’s up with that?”

“Tch- I dOHont knoHOW!!” He yelped as Izuku dug into the back of his ribs,

“You go crazy, it’s fascinating.”

“IZUHUHUKU!! ILL KIHIHILL YOHOU!” He screamed wiggling to try and turn around and cover up the ticklishness.

“actually if the nervous system that connects to the ribs also connects-” As Izuku mumbled, Katsuki was losing his mind. Not only was he losing Izukus attention but the fingers were becoming for persische and faster.

“OH MHAHAY GOHOD!! SHUAHA-AA! NONONONO!!” As Bakugo tried to get Deku to snap back into reality, Dekus hands wondered right where the top back of the ribs meets the armpit. This sent his spiraling, as he bucked and kicked and did whatever he could to get it to stop.

“STOHAHAOP!! STAHAHAP RIHIGHT NOW!! EHEHARTH T-TO IZUHUKU!!” He kicked his leg up and hit the boy in the back, snapping him out of it and the tickling to come to a stop.

“Wha-wha? O-Oh! Sorry Kachan, I didn’t mean to-” Izuku quickly got off of his and flipped him onto his back, Katsuki instantly curled into his self, hugging his ribs.

“My……My gohod!….You… you nearly—Nearly killed me!” He angrily growled, panting to catching his breath

“I’m so sorry! I didn’t know!” Izuku, being Izuku, tried to over compensate how angry Bakugo actually was (which was not a lot) and try and fix it. He hated having the feeling that he made somebody feel bad.

“T-That! Was the—….. WORST!” Katsuki slowly sat up looking straight into the green boys nervous eyes.

“I- I didn’t know! I’m-im so sorry—”

“No no! You deserve a little revenge”

“I-I.. what?” Deku slowly scooted back on the bed worried for what Kachan would signify as ‘revenge’

“Don’t try and get away! GET OVER HERE!” Bakugo lunged towards Deku.

They wrestled with Deku losing this time. Before he could say anything a scream was heard from inside the room, that scream being Izukus. Laughter flooded the air quickly as Katsuki got his revenge.

Dekus no good, very bad, faceplant into masculinity and internalized homophobia

I made this a thought post from chapter 402 originally, but I can’t let these thoughts fester any longer. Gotta be correct about it 🫶🫶🫶

Alright so when I originally talked about this on a couple of platforms (not just tumblr, tiktok too and a bit on Twitter that has no connection to this account lmao) I feel like people told me that I was “stretching” with my assumptions.

But then Toga’s backstory being told to Ochako was… directly referenced to a queer allegory. And in 394, she directly says that she likes girls. It’s the thing said last, implying it’s something she’s still ashamed of feeling.

This chapter basically confirmed in my mind that Himiko’s blood quirk was the equivalent to the homophobia that was probably in her own household. And in my mind, that means that blood quirk = metaphor on her queer experience.

And then suddenly, the pieces clicked into place.

In 348, Izuku disagrees with Himiko and Ochako’s ideals—not only at the idea of girly romance, but also at unconventional romance.

Ochako has distanced herself due to Izuku’s inability to confront his own feelings. Shown both physically and metaphorically.

Ochako took all the steps to walk away because from Izuku. Because Izuku held her back.

Or more rather, she realized that Izuku was no allmight, but rather just an average boy in need of saving as anyone else. He is someone who’s flaws cannot align with Ochako’s own ideals for a relationship.

Because ochako is weird.

Izuku holds her back. She can’t be everything she needs to be while around him.

And that’s something Izuku’s not going to understand, not like how she needs him to understand.

And Himiko knows who Ochako is on a more fundamental level than Izuku ever will, and that’s okay.

I feel like whenever I talk about these character flaws having to do with Izuku, it almost sounds like I’m bashing him? I swear, I’m not, it makes complete sense as to why he is this way. And there are people (Katsuki) in the world who can have this in a relationship under the right communication, and some people can’t. And that’s just how we exist. That’s okay. We don’t all have to be compatible with everyone.

Back to the main point, the pieces and the people putting those pieces together were starting to see their parallels.

Even the manga placement parallels them, especially with how clever I feel horikoshi can be with his paneling.

Looking down, looking up. Both three quarter angles. Small mouth expression, big mouth expression. And that blush.

Fake smile when unhappy. Falling for someone who is dying, who you’d do anything for, even toe the line of death defending them, fixing them—just because you can’t help but love someone you wish had walked into your life sooner (or in Izuku’s case, accepted into your life sooner).

Someone you’d sacrifice for. Someone you’re violent for. Someone you’d kill for.

Someone you’d rather let an entire population of people die for than live without.

Someone you’re undeniably, unequivocally, selfish for.

And yet Izuku doesn’t recognize his same symptoms of love through Himiko Toga as Ochako does.

Himiko must be dehumanized to Izuku, because if she’s a person, then she is him.

(What’s even more interesting about this panel, is that if the characters were reversed and it was about Izuku’s violent feelings over protecting Katsuki, danger sense would be going off constantly. So toga is the perfect counter, but Izuku is the ultimate weakness.)

So, okay, how exactly do these things matter? How does this have to do with Izuku’s own personal struggle over his masculinity?

I think what’s important to clarify here is that when I say “internalized homophobia”, I don’t mean that he necessarily is beating himself up over the fact that he likes a boy instead of a girl.

I think it’s connected to his fear of rejection, and his own personal issues having to do with remaining a “strong man” instead of a “weak man”.

Izuku may not believe that liking men is anyone’s business but his own, but does Katsuki think that?

Izuku has called his feelings of admiration gross. Not that he himself is an awful person for feeling them, but that Katsuki will be the one to think they’re gross. And he’s worked so hard to get to this point in their relationship, he doesn’t wanna let it go over some stupid feelings.

And this is where toga comes into the picture, his parallels between her, because just how is Toga supposed to know that Ochako isn’t judging her for her feelings? Technically, all of the things she’s said before the final fight between them have only proved the inevitable. That Toga is gross, a freak, a predator, a danger, because she loves a woman.

How is Izuku supposed to interpret being called a stalker by Katsuki? How is he supposed to interpret when people call him creepy for his muttering and analyzation? How is he supposed to interpret being called a crybaby by his idol, Katsuki, and everyone else when he cannot control that?

How can he handle feelings that are out of his control, and still believe that they’re okay?

And at the very least, even if homophobia doesn’t exist in mha, heteronormativity does. Especially shown through Ashido, a straight girl.

None of that is necessarily Allmight, Katsuki, or even Ochako’s fault, because of course they’re just teasing him—but it doesn’t change the fact that it affects how he perceives himself.

So when I say that Izuku has problems with internalized homophobia, I mean that he is afraid of how the people around him will perceive him, than a constant feeling of self hatred due to not liking women.

And when I say that his internalized homophobia is an extension of his masculinity, I mean that because he has no confidence in himself and his more vulnerable emotions, he is unable to accept what or who he is. This ofc affects the people around him, like saying that Ochako CANT be weird because she’s just “so amazingly normal” without realizing that he’s just downplaying who she is and what she thinks, or dehumanizing the most openly queer character in the series because it benefits the perception he has of himself, or even silently rejecting Katsuki’s feelings simply out of a need to “control his heart and control his quirk”.

In Izuku’s mind, the only way to keep Katsuki is to not be the weird kid he was in his childhood. In a way, Izuku is still performing for Katsuki.

The pro hero convention

Finally, Izuku can't contain his excitement; he's going to meet All Might himself! Yeah, he's retired, but he'll attend this particular convention because he's now the mentor of one of the best pro heroes: Dynamight.

Now, Izuku truly admires him too, but the truth is that he bought his ticket because he wants to see All Might.

He wonders if he'd be willing to sign his merch or at least Izuku's old notebook in which he has gathered a lot of information about quirks over the past twenty years.

Izuku is just a quirkless boy who works at a bakery, but he's still a fan boy who loves to know everything about pro heroes and the things they do to protect society.

Maybe he can go see pro hero Shoto after that; it's not like he doesn't want to stay and see Dynamight as well... it's just that they used to go to the same school when they were very little and even though they weren't friends ('cause Katsuki himself told him that a couple of times), the little blond boy used to protect him from other kids that made fun of him and Izuku called him his hero because of it.

It'd be an awkward reunion, that's why he wants to avoid it. Besides, it's not like Katsuki has a friendly personality. It's one of the reasons his PR is exhausted at the moment and follows him basically everywhere.

Although now that he thinks about it, Katsuki has probably forgotten all about him already.

Maybe Izuku has nothing to worry about.

There's a huge line already; Katsuki has a lot of female fans because he's very handsome, just like Shoto.

Fortunately, he doesn't have to get in line because All Might is by himself watching everything from afar; the fact that no one recognizes his true form makes Izuku sad. It's true that it's not like most of people know the story behind All Might's power, but it's not a secret either.

Shaking with excitement, Izuku approaches the tall, thin and blond man with the dark blue suit and tries to speak without stammering too much.

"Could you please sign my notebook, All Might?"

The man smiles, although he looks a bit surprised at the same time.

Izuku gets flustered.

"I mean... I know you're not here to do that, but I thought–"

"I'd love to, young man."

"Really?" Izuku knows he has stars in his eyes at the moment and that he's blushing, but he can't help himself.

"Yeah, sure! Follow me!"

Izuku doesn't know how his legs somehow keep functioning, but they do. He walks behind All Might towards the table where Dynamight is signing merchandise with an expression that tells everyone he'd rather be anywhere else.

All Might sits on a chair next to the young pro hero and tells Izuku to show him everything he wants him to sign.

"Izuku?"

The green haired boy blushes to the tip of his ears and gets immediately nervous.

"Kacchan! Uhh... No, sorry! I mean Dynamight!" Izuku begs all the gods up there Katsuki doesn't kick him out before he gets at least one of his things signed by All Might.

"You can call me whatever the fuck you want," Katsuki smirks, looking suddenly very happy with himself.

His PR is having the worst time of her life; the girls in front of the line are impatient already and Izuku is sure more than one recorded Katsuki cursing out loud.

"Do you two know each other?" All Might smiles, genuinely curious.

"We used to go to the same school when we were little." Izuku says, very proud of himself because he sounded normal and didn't stammer once.

"We played house a lot; I used to demand Izuku to be my wife every single time," Katsuki says, very proud of himself.

Izuku's face turns completely red; he can't believe he had forgotten about that.

"Here." Katsuki hands Izuku his own phone while a very enthusiastic fan starts glaring at Izuku likes he's her nemesis now.

"Uhh..."

"Add your number."

Izuku is so nervous he doesn't even question it, he just does it. When he gives him the phone back, Katsuki has a huge grin on his face that shocks his own fans a bit because they're used to see him with a frown upon his face all the time.

"So... you have come here to see me?"

"I actually wanted to meet All Might."

Katsuki's smug grin disappears in an instant; he grimaces like he's in pain before narrowing his eyes.

Then he pouts like he used to do whenever Izuku didn't want to play house with him. Now, he remembers...

At that moment his PR tells Katsuki to keep signing and Izuku feels relieved for not having his undivided attention anymore.

All Might chuckles, looking from him to Katsuki with amusement before asking Izuku to put everything he wants him to sign over the table.

Izuku is too excited again to think about what just happened with Katsuki; he's never been so happy before.

He makes his exit quickly and goes directly to where pro hero Shoto is signing things for his fans.

Still shaking with excitement about what happened earlier, Izuku decides to wait in line to meet pro hero Shoto and keeps looking at all the merchandise All Might signed for him.

Izuku can't stop grinning the entire time.

"Izuku."

He gasps and he's sure a couple of people around squeak in delight when they notice Dynamight standing a few feet from the line.

"Kacchan!" Izuku mumbles, wondering how Katsuki managed to escape from his own signing.

"It's my lunch break," Katsuki says, almost like he's reading Izuku's mind.

He smirks when the green haired boy blinks at him, but has to growl at the people who gather around him to try to get a picture and an autograph too.

They take a couple of steps back as soon as they notice the way the pro hero is glaring at them.

"Let's go grab something to eat, Izuku. My treat..."

"I was waiting to–"

"Half and half is not worth it," Katsuki cuts him off, looking irritated out of the sudden. It must be due to the fact that he's always fighting Shoto over the first place.

Despite the expression on Katsuki's face, Izuku can't help but smile at him; it's like when they were kids, the blond had always been stubborn and kept following Izuku around until he agreed to play as his wife.

"Fine," Izuku gives in, allowing Katsuki to lead him outside the building for a moment.

They actually have a good time; it's like he never stopped seeing Katsuki because it's so easy to talk to him about anything.

Despite being just a quirkless guy, Katsuki seems genuinely interested in Izuku's life; he asks about the bakery and makes Izuku share the location with him.

At some point, Katsuki takes one of Izuku's hands in his and stares into his eyes in a way that makes Izuku turn completely red in seconds.

"I want us to be close again."

"Sure! I'd love to be your friend!"

To his confusion, Katsuki shakes his head a couple of times.

"I don't want us to be just friends," he says, leaning closer. "I want to start dating you."

"Are you sure? I mean we just–"

"I never do anything I don't want to; yes, I'm pretty sure," Katsuki assures him, leaning forward to give him a kiss on the forehead.

"Okay, let's start dating!"

Izuku thought it'd be weird to even think about it since Katsuki is one of the best pro heroes and he's very talented and famous, but the truth is that Izuku feels at home whenever he's with him.

Maybe this could work out.

The only bad thing about it is that in less than a day, Dynamight's fans find out through social media.

Mean and Meaner

(Part one)

Katsuki Bakugou is notoriously vicious, and just down right cruel in most circumstances. The class of 1-A had just started to grow accustomed to him, however, a certain turn of events changes the balance of the hero course students.

Training Arc spoilers, most likely differs from canon since its been a fat fucking minute since ive watched / read that early into the series + My writing is a bit rusty so my b 😨

Katsuki Bakugou was the epitome of anger, explosive behavior, even having a matching quirk. In the most blunt way possible, he was fucking mean.

Izuku, anyone close to him, and even anyone anywhere in a mile radius can testify for this fact.

If Katsuki is walking in the middle of the hallway, it's you who should move for him. If you somehow convince him to hang out or have a movie night, it's a given he's calling the shots and picking the movie. It doesn't matter whether you snap back, or are the embodiment of sweetness. He'll blast you into tomorrow at any verbal backlash, and kind words will be ignored if you're lucky.

Nevertheless, he was an integral part of UAs Hero Course. As loud, and brash as he was, he earned his way into the school, earning his spot at the very top of the entrance exams, and the sports festival. Despite how difficult it was starting out, and even though he'd never admit it, he'd made friends in 1-A, and stupidly enough, he thought, cared for his classmates.

That's probably how he got into this mess, is it not ? He trained vigorously, was absolutely naturally talented, bright as ever-- No logical explanation, even though he was there, being the victim of the crime, would make him understand how he ever got here. In a dingy, mildew ridden, room, tied and strapped to a chair. It was raggedy, and had an annoying scent of iron that wasn't even slowly, but definitely surely, driving him insane. This was nothing like the wealthier and more comforted parts of his or Dekus home. The change in atmosphere continued to unease him, despite how he'd stay firm in his angered stance.

Before he could let himself even acknowledge how uncomfortable it really all was, what he thought was going to be a second villain encounter, charged at him head on.

You, unwavering, glaring, and everything Katsuki deep down despised in himself, stomped up to him and pushed your finger into his unguarded chest.

"Hah?" He wasn't scared, not of a weakling like you. Youd just be another run of the mill villain, and despite how grim his chances were, no way in hell was he giving up. "Just who the fuck are you ?"

His confidence wavered for only heartbeat, when you just laughed right in his face.

How fucking rude.

"I could be asking you that. I thought the league captured people with potential. Not some dumb bitch who's still cuffed up and has his tail between his legs like a lost puppy stranded in the rain."

His jaw dropped a bit, but before he could even bite back, you just about ripped his throat out with tiger-like fangs.

"God. I was actually hoping I could have an escape buddy, not some hero wannabe. This is fucking embarrassing, im glad I never enrolled in those shitty, stuck up school. You're too busy learning how to wipe your ass to protect yourself when it comes down to it. Pa-the-tic."

He looked at you, shocked. For one of the only times in his life, Katsuki Bakugou was dumbfounded. He didnt even have the chance to attack before you basically clocked him. All of his insecurities and fears bubbling up.

Is this how Izuku felt ?

He was quick to snap out of it though, when he saw a familiar, snarky grin. Where he remembered it from, he was unsure.

"And who are you to be saying that ? You look about my age, so it's clear you're just a no brained drop out who had no other options but to be a fucking whore to some loser villain gang. You wouldn't stand a chance against the heroes."

There it was again, that grating, irritating laugh, that echoed throughout the damp room, and through each bone in his body. Hes not scared, is he ?

"God, you really ARE dumb." You genuinely laughed, usually finding amusement in how easy it was to tick people off, but this was just absurd. "You sure are jumpy, scared. Especially with conclusions. Your critical thinking skills are in desperate need of a first grade class, how'd you even graduate ?

He looked at you, growing more angry. If it weren't for the stupid binding, and the hope the heroes would find him before he had to take things into his own hands, he wouldve knocked the shit out of you yesterday.

"What do you mean, fuckface ? If you have something to say, just spit it out already. No one has time for your shit."

You scoffed. "Clearly the league does." Before he could accuse you of anything else, you pulled out a large cuffed hand locking device, in the metal, a name was carved in. "The league scouted me first, obviously thought I was stronger. More worthy than you." You stuck your tongue out, teasing him with salt in his wound. "Of course I don't have time for that bullshit. Both heroes and villains are way out of their fucking minds. They look like little kids tripping over themselves to play pretend." You looked him dead in his ruby red eyes, "You all need to grow up."

He was beyond pissed at this point, who the fuck did you think you were ? Just who were you ? Was that name yours ? No way you had a fucking custom made handcuff. Was it due to your strength ? How long have you been here ? What have you even been doing to get found by the League ? Who are you ?

Before he realized it, his boiling anger turned into an itching curiosity.

But over his dead fucking body would that be clear.

"Great, so you're a dumbass and delusional. What makes you think getting kidnapped is a compliment ? Did they take you from the fucking psych ward ? For everyone's sake you should be put back in."

You laughed, again. The way his words barely even effected you irritated him, the way youd easily bite back with something arguably even meaner, you irritated the fuck out of him.

"Then what is it, ready to accept the fact you're just that weak then ? If it's not a compliment, what is it ? A show of how gullible you "Heroes" are ? Nice fucking try."

The argument stopped there, but for the next few days, the bickering between you rarely ceases.

Occasionally, a league member will come in to shut you up, and re cuff you, scolding you for 'escaping.'

You, not even waiting for the villain to exit, but as soon as they turn your back to you, would unlock them with ease.

"If you can get out so easily, why dont you just fucking leave ? For someone who pretends to be so smart and strong, you really have a lack of self preservation."

"Hah, rich coming from you ! What are all those muscles for ? Can't break out of some chains ? Bet you're just a fatass pretending to be strong."

"HEY ! Fuckin watch whatcha say. I could get out quicker than you, kill every lowlife here, " He paused, looking you in the eyes as intimidatingly as he could, "Including you, and escape with time on my hands."

You laughed and punched his shoulder, slowly but surely getting closer and more annoying throughout the days. He hated to admit it, but your punches weren't light. They had a kick to them. It was a little relieving, knowing it wasn't just him and a dead weight.

"Okay, keep dreaming. And you say I'm the delusional one. If it weren't for some big shot hero school, you'd be applying for residential hospital services. Maybe we would've met there."

"Dont get fuckin sappy, the heroes are gonna be here soon, and ill be back to my life and forget you ever existed."

"God I fucking hope so."

Izuku:

- Earned his quirk by showing his heroic side and training extremely hard for 10 months. You can say he was “in the right place at the right time” but it was how he reacted that caught All Night’s attention.

- Had to earn the trust and respect of everyone he meets. Everyone he’s met underestimates him and most don’t even like him at first.

- Only has himself to defend himself and hardly even gets to do so.

- Had to figure out how to use the basics of his quirk on his own cause no one had any good advice for him.

- Break numerous bones and being lectured numerous times despite doing the right thing.

- Had to grow as a person to become a leader.

- Has suffered numerous losses and his victories usually involve him being extremely injured at the end.

- Has a canonically logical explanation as to why his quirk is evolving.

- Has some plot armor, but he’s the MC so it’s to be expected and it doesn’t protect him that much to begin with.

- Is shown to be intelligent but is only the 4th highest ranking student in the midterms.

Katsuki:

- Won the genetic lottery in terms of his quirk

- Is somehow an ace fighter despite only beating up weaker people and having no combat training.

- Everyone loves him immediately, and if they don’t, they’re portrayed to be ignorant and dumb.

- Has Eraserhead batting for him every second and never has to explain/justify his actions.

- Is rewarded for accomplishing the bare minimum and sometimes for even ignoring orders/protocols.

- Is already a naturally born leader despite not having any social skills.

- Only has two losses and they’re both from the Big Bad.

- Has no logical explanation for his quirk evolution.

- Has plot armor up the wazoo and has cheated death twice.

- Scores 3rd in the midterms despite not showing nearly as much intellect as Izuku.

I still don’t understand AFO. Why is he like this. This series repeatedly goes out of it’s way to humanize the villains but AFO is still just evil because he wants to be the demon lord and I don’t get it.

That would be the point, I feel-- AFO doesn't want to be understood or seen as "human." He wants to completely lose himself in character, wants other people to mindlessly play along with the story he's written for himself like good little extras, and wants everyone around him to acknowledge what a ~perfectly inhuman demon lord~ he is-- and he's bent the entire narrative of MHA around himself like a shield in order to accomplish that. Like, the idea of people breaking the same black and white narrative that he's been using to protect himself (and trap others) quite literally drives him insane:

"That murderer--" "You killer--" oooooo you're so mad that human nature is basically good, that people are endlessly capable of growth and healing, and that actual human beings can't simply be shoved into teeny black and white fictional boxes ooooo all the more evidence that he's gonna completely lose his shit when Tomura ultimately refuses to kill Izuku lmao

I wanna point out his speech bubbles in the second image, bc Hori frequently uses speech bubbles to emphasize a character's mental state-- Like.... Bro is literally coming apart at the seams with rage that Stain is trying to be anything more than a starter villain. 😭The english translation also kind of sort of makes it seem like AFO is simply referring to Stain by his moniker (Hero Killer), but the term he uses in the original text feels a little more... loaded, imho?? The kanji used for Stain's "Hero Killer" Moniker is "Goroshi" ("殺ごろし"), but here, AFO instead refers to him as a "Murderer" (殺人犯/satsujin-han). Calling Stain an out-and-out murderer instead of calling him by a villain moniker feels a lot more specific, a lot more pointed, and it also tells us a lot more about AFO’s fucked up sense of values.

Anyway, I've said this before, but AFO is a character who reads heavily as an escapist fantasy gone horrifically wrong. "Why is a world where villains are allowed to climb back up from rock bottom and heal so intolerable to AFO?" "why does the idea of people breaking free from their roles make AFO so angry?" "why is AFO literally trying to BECOME a comic book character?" are better questions to ask than "why is bro just evil for the sake of it," I feel. Like obviously, a world where the label of "villain" gets thoroughly and utterly dismantled is one where AFO loses his power over others.... but it's also a world that rips that protective layer of "fiction" away from him, exposes his own humanity, and destroys that delusion of becoming the "perfect villain king" that he's wrapped himself up in.

What I find especially interesting about AFO is that MHA's narrative actually cooperates with shielding him from the readers, to a degree-- scenes that depict rare moments of genuine emotion are overlaid with contrary, cartoonishly evil narration that's meant to distract the reader from what's actually being depicted. The bulk of the series depicts his face being hidden in shadows even though it *literally* has no reason to be, and we don't get an unobscured look until the other characters finally start rallying together to reject his story. He is literally introduced to the series through a TV screen, which MHA has been using as a shorthand for its depiction of fantasy since day one:

In my opinion, I feel the final act of "rejection" that AFO fears isn't from his brother, or his followers, or "his other self"-- what he fears is the story itself rejecting him and finally exposing him for what he is: an utterly mundane human. Like, a total freak of a guy to be sure, but still totally human. The narrative revoking its various "protections" and working against AFO to humanize him acts as the final insult to everything he claims to believe in while doubling as the last bit of confirmation that he was never gonna become a "perfect demon lord." MHA being what it is, this is something inevitable.

Where other characters in this series draw strength from their origin-- the moment that defines them as a human and individual-- AFO likely fears and rejects his own origin for this same reason.

Anyway. I would describe AFO as a wannabe-author who refuses to make public appearances or divulge details about his personal life, but ultimately reveals a little too much about himself through the "stories" and "characters" he tries to write-- so ppl still know he's a freak with issues by virtue of how fatherless his content is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Putting together all the pieces of himself that AFO accidentally lets slip is part of what makes MHA so fun (to me, at least!).

I wanna see your head canons on what their fins would look like! (I can imagine everytime they feel happy and warm their tail glows)

Authors note: These are my personal headcannons for the mermaid AU. I might change them in latter stories but I feel pretty comfy with where they are right now. They where all just sorta ideas I have floating around but I hope you like them! Also I actually had the idea of their eyes glowing when they get happy but decided not to add it, so your not that far off with the tail ♡

Shoji has eight silver colored tentacles with a dark blue under belly. His suction cups are a slightly lighter blue and his beak is the same color as the top. I can imagine him being a bit self conscious about it and usually keeping it covered up by the tentacles, kinda like his mask in the anime.

Koda has motly white tail with red details. His tail actually resembles a seahorse but much bigger to support all of his weight above water

Sato's tail is a a soft brown color with black and white stripes. I imagine his tail with a sorta puffy feel to, not supper puffy though, kinda like puffy stickers. It resembles a sort of clownfish look with brown instead of orange.

Ida has a dark blue tail with one of his bottom fins being made out of metal parts, think like toothless from HTTYD. I imagine he would have made it either himself or with Momo's help.

Sero has a long black tail with white puffy streak all around it. The streaks look a lot like tape, to match his original universes quirk.

Shoto has a half red half white tail that colors switch places with his hair. I imagine that he might have a few darker spots on his tail from his past.

Momo has a red tail with beutifull yellow fins at the bottom. It's a pretty basic mermaid tail but it has a little of a rough texture than the original sleek mermaid scales.

Bakugo has a ash blonde tail with large swirls of orange and black. His tail kinda resembles a catfish in all ways except color.

Kirishima has a red tail with specks of black that resembles a shark. I would imagine that Kirishima would sorta be the protection of the pack so his tail would have scars and possibly a healed bite mark out of one of the fins.

Ojiro has a thick skin colored tail with a small tuff of fins at the end. It kinda looks like his tail from the original universe but is more smooth.

Aoyama has a shiny white and yellow tail that has a sort of sequins look to it. He has the ability to change the colors to fit in with the environment but he says that these colors make him ✨️sparkle✨️ more.

Denki had a bright electric yellow tail with little black marking that happen to look like lightning bolts. His tail takes resemblance to a electric eel.

Izuku's tail is a beutifull emerald green with freckles of red and white. The fins are a bit longer than the average mer-man, it is a pretty yellow and looks slightly tattered and torn (Probably from how reckless he is).

Mina, as stated before, has a glimmering pink and yellow tail. Her tail is very strong and has some visible muscles, but not a ton.

Tokoyami had a dark black tail with a white under belly, like a orca.

Uraraka has a pretty white tail with large splotches of pink and brown, it kinda looks like boba.

Jiro had a shorter but strong looking purple tail with flowy fins that resemble earphone jacks hanging from her side.

Hagakure has a long almost clear tail that resembled that of a jelly fish.

Tsu has a beutifull green tail with black swirly stripes all along it. It resembles that of a tadpole. Her type of mermaid is supposed to grow legs but hers somehow stayed like a tadpoles.

or, the timeline Overhaul, Dabi & Shigaraki Tomura ended up being brothers

Disclaimer: I'm an eldest of four in theory, but an only child in practice. Tell me if the dynamics aren't accurate!

In order to recover from ch.419 and its BIG revelation, I started to wonder... What could've been done to undoom the narrative without altering the story too much? And now, I'm bringing you this alternative timeline with three "potential successors" to AFO, or "how to make Tomura's life a lot worse before it gets better?"

What changes between the og timeline and this one? Tomura's body actively rejects his quirk once it awakens. Just like Izuku, the quirk he got doesn't match him, and he falls sick, literally decaying himself.

Since AFO has already spent quite some time and resources on his little "masterpiece of a project", he and Dr. Garaki want to fix him. Their choice falls on using Kai Chisaki's quirk after the Shie Hassaikai HQ goes up in flames, with the boss still inside.

Kai (12) still struggles with his quirk. It takes time for him to reassemble Tomura in a stable way. They planned on discarding the other kid once his job's done, but notice Tomura has started feeling jealous of Kai, his quirk, and any positive interaction he has with AFO, Garaki (and later, Kurogiri). Kai ABSOLUTELY doesn't want to make friends, and is allowed to stay as a reason for Tomura's heart to fuel more hatred.

When Tōya's brought from Sekoto Peak, AFO and Dr. Garaki try to patch him up themselves for a year, before giving up (it's not worth it for just another replacement). Kai shows, once again, how useful he can be. Same as the og timeline, when Tōya wakes up, he panics, sets the orphanage on fire, and runs home, just to be confronted with the fact nothing will ever change.

This time, AFO doesn't let Tōya out of his sight (he's supposed to survive this time). Kai is sent to "retrieve AFO's possession". Tōya tries to fight back before realizing how much stronger Kai is. The plan was to drag him back, and steal his powerful quirk, but AFO realized he'd make a fine addition to Tomura's hatred.

And he's right. Tōya quickly projects his frustrations about Shōto in Tomura, except no one stops him this time. He's 14, with nowhere else to go, so he stays and makes Tomura's life a nightmare (but Kai's as well, always trying to prove he's better).

Basically, if Kai and Tōya might feel they've been saved from the streets, they're nothing but pawns being used to make Tomura the perfect vessel, keeping his hatred constant by making him compete against the two others.

Dynamic

They might call themselves "brothers", but due to them being, well, themselves, they're incapable of caring for one another at the beginning of the story.

Kai and Tōya are fully aware Tomura is the "rightful" successor to AFO. They don't know his story, and aren't bothered to ask. For them, he's AFO's actual son, making his claim as the successor legit. Despite having accepted that fact, they're not doing much to help out in the beginning, judging their baby brother hasn't earned them yet. They consider each other actual villains (with an alias and all), while Tomura's still... just a kid.

Tomura can't stand his older brothers. They constantly flaunt themselves as being far better than their "useless" brother (but can't stand each other either). Kai is uncaring, and only interacts with him when one of them needs something from the other. Tōya is mean and uses any opportunity to mock Tomura, another masterpiece he knows is weaker than he is. If Kurogiri can interfere when it gets physical, portals can't stop words from reaching the one he's tasked to protect.

The relationship isn't better between Kai and Tōya. Since he had his ass handed to him the first time they fought, Tōya is stuck in a one-sided competition to prove he's better than "that nobody". But, he's a "act first, let Kai think after" kinda guy who still relies on his brother's quirk to use his at its fullest. While Kai does fix him whenever he goes over his own limits (quite often), he only does it since Tōya's long-range attacks are useful to them, and nothing more.

Basically, the story starts like this in this timeline :

Again, I don't want this story to be a fix-it from the get-go. I want them to still be themselves, and AFO having a good reason not to isolate Tomura this time around.

Not fully sure how much would change in this timeline, but I had some ideas like:

Overhaul still has mysophobia and almost always wears a mask, hiding his scar. He's Dr. Garaki's right-hand man, always here to 'fix' any mistake he's made;

The brothers don't know about Dabi's true family. He only uses his alias since he HATES that he took Shigaraki as a last name to hide his true identity;

I'm giving Tomura actual DID (because it's my AU!). Lil' Tenko does front, sometimes. His brothers are a little more gentle with him, projecting the kid they used to be in Tenko;

Dabi & Overhaul egg Tomura into fighting All Might;

Dabi's the one to share vids that link Stain to LOV. He's the one closest to Giran (making his disregard for his safety during the MLA fight even more impactful);

Overhaul's and Eri's paths meet here after she's abandoned by her mother. Going with the theory her quirk was a 'gift' from AFO, he's supposed to bring her into the orphanage system, but decides to take matters into his own hands, behind everyone's back. I'm giving him abandonment issues and 'i need to be useful' issues. He sees Eri's quirk as a way to prevent the Quirk Singularity Doomsday Theory that Dr.Garaki fears from happening;

So Magne never gets disassembled here (yeah!), but he's still punished by Tomura who's snapped since he's supposed to be the leader here;

Dabi gets more and more unstable after Overhaul's imprisonment, since he can't go back from disregarding his own limits anymore;

Also, probably way too op BUT: Dabi can use his second quirk. He's been disassembled by Kai enough times that he remembers what dying feels like and can trick his brain/body into thinking he's dying (though it still actually takes a toll on his body and mind). Toying with the idea it might trigger some sort of Cotard's syndrome after some time 🤔;

Anyway, Dabi & Tomura start respecting each other during the second act, with Tomura taking care of the team and eventually taking over the MLA, while Overhaul & Tomura get closer during the final arc, after freeing his brother from Tartarus (because I needed more screentime from Overhaul 😔);

Cause, like in ANY of my AUs, Tomura actually fights AFO's influence and refuses to let him take over his body, thanks to his connection to the members of LOV;

Except this time, it's also because three brothers have learned they actually care about each other in their own ways;

Long story short, I just feel like these three deserve to beat AFO's ass together 😇

Also: Overhaul gets a redemption arc by NOT getting involved with Eri ever again (though he's sorry), but making sure the kids in AFO's orphanage(s) don't end up being used. Cause... That part of the plot isn't acknowledged in the ending and, like, what happened to all those kids?!

How bad is the fact Jaune faked his transcipts? Like some people think he's evil for it and others think it doesn't matter. So what you think? I'm of his friends would not care and only Weiss would get on his case would but stay quiet if only for Blake.

This is an interesting question since it's kind of hard for me to stand firm on one side or the other on this.

On the one hand, it's bad because it's essentially the same as joining the military and lying in order to get yourself in. I say this is bad because 1) my own personal history with the military and 2) how really screwed up this really is when you think about it. Jaune snuck his way into Beacon, basically a para-military college, with no prior training, no formal education, and just a gung-ho spirit to prove himself. I'm sure if he applied himself formally, he could have been accepted by some measure, even if it were only for a reservist position. His missing background means he has nothing to prove that he's capable enough to protect himself, his teammates, or the civilians that he, as a huntsman, is responsible for. In short; Jaune lied to get into the military, which is a crime.

But then there's the other way to look at this. Jaune joined Beacon to prove himself, which can be seen as two ways, either A) like Steve Rogers, he had noble intentions of helping people in a way that truly mattered at the time, or B) like Izuku Midoriya, Jaune wanted to be like somebody he idolized and do the same as they did to achieve their legendary status, which in this case is becoming a huntsman. Honestly, Jaune did the only thing he knew that would guarantee his achieving of his dream, which was to obtain transcripts (that were forged and faked) and to apply to Beacon. In this instance, you would place the blame less on the soldier who wanted to join (Jaune, Cap, Deku) and more on the one who took his hand and brought him into this world (Ozpin, Erskine, and All Might) as a way to make a difference in both his world and theirs. In short; Jaune is perfect because of his everyman status.

But let's not kid ourselves here. The people who cry that Jaune getting into Beacon as a way of showing how "unfair " and "gary stu" Jaune is are the same people who call him a self-insert and scream that he's a useless male power fantasy taking screentime from the show.

I really love your analyses about Bakugo. You're one of the few people in the fandom whose opinions I value, so thank you. I have a question for you. If Deku and Bakugo were supposed to be the better versions of All Might with their ideals and Deku with his fight encouraged the public to reach out a hand and showcased teamwork, what did Bakugo’s fight do to change the status quo? Deku already gets constant feedback from the public about this. Even Ochako was rewarded in line with the themes in the last chapter. But what about Bakugo? All we see are few crazy fangirls. Bakugo saving All Might was good in the moment, but we didn't see anything after that. His actions aren't acknowledged like those of Ochako or Deku. For example, why don't civilians quote him? He's such a special character that I'm a bit sad about this ending. I can't shake the feeling that he deserved more.

If Deku and Bakugo were supposed to be the better versions of All Might

I have to stop you right there, because either I don't agree with this statement or don't understand it as written.

But if your basic question is what lasting impact does Katsuki have on society, first of all, no one says he has to have one (I mean, what is Shouto's lasting impact on society, for that matter? They're all only like 23-24 years old at this point), and second of all, it entirely depends on what you want to count as a lasting impact on society.

Option 1: He defended the spirits of those who would push for progress.

Option 2: He inspired others to dream of being heroes in the same way All Might inspired him.

Option 3: He devoted himself to restoring the major symbol that inspired society to change in the first place. He protected Izuku's dream (and thus anyone who shared his same dream) better than anyone else ever did.

I've noticed the online fandom has been extremely obsessed with this idea of acknowledgement lately, and I would caution you all to be wary of that. Acknowledgement comes in many forms, but also some things do not need acknowledgement to be meaningful. Of course he deserves the world, but what one deserves and what one gets are often not the same, and MHA has demonstrated that in spades.
