Some of the wip of the making of my Eskel scars! This was my first ever time making any kind of FX makeup sculpt and I learned so much in process.
Sculpt - mold - cast - applied
The one minor hiccup is that I did not realize how sensitive the transfers are to being squished and so on the day of our actual shoot, after having been packed in a makeup bag all weekend, they were quite a bit less gnarly than my first makeup test!
Now I know for next time, and I still got some absolutely gorgeous photos courtesy of @electrospectrum

Hi hello I LOVE Heehaw, they're so cool, that's an amazing fursuit!!
Can I ask how you made it? Especially around the eyes, and the hinge jaw.
Also curious about the shirt with gloves? Is there a word I could search for for that kind of shirt?
Thanks, I love seeing wierd furries and drag kings! :>
Thank you for the kind words!!
I made my first Heehaw face by casting my face in plaster and sculpting the snout shape on it using chavant. I then made a few silicone versions (Dragonskin 10 and one of the Exoflexes specifically), and from there it can be attached to my face with Skin Tite adhesive
I love the look and feel of silicone, and it's very simple to cast with in my experience. One of its downsides for this project is that it's just too heavy for a big Ole snout, and when I slush casted it to have thin walls I sacrifice movement capabilities.
The newer Heehaw face I have is purchased from NorthFX, and is made of hot-curing foam latex. It's lightweight, attaches to skin perfectly using Prosaid adhesive and allows for a range of expressive movement. It's split into a top and bottom jaw which you can glue together and use paint or makeup to blend the seams, and the results look super slick! I used Mehron facepaint to blend it all together and a very thick application of Ben Nye setting powder on top, which I swear by.
Foam latex prosthetic's major downside is that it's fragile and wicks up sweat, so it can't be used many times. Now that I know I love the material I'm working on making my own, but it's much more complicated than using silicone and requires a dedicated oven. I'm getting my materials from Monster Makers, and luckily since it's not a huge piece I can just use a large toaster oven for it (whatever oven you use can't be used again for food).
It's hard to tell when I've got my jeans+chaps on, but I've actually got a whole spandex bodysuit on! I fabric painted the ombre to the hands and some of the body hair, and the rest of the hair were wool combos I wet felted.
I'm nowhere near an expert or anything, but I am more than happy to answer questions and help people out who want to get into furry face prosthetics. Theres a lot of dense information online about making this stuff that took me foreverrr to navigate through, and I'd be happy to be a source of info that HOPEFULLY isn't too confusing. I've been super inspired for this whole project by furry prostetics of old and want this artform to return to furry spaces again because I rarely see it!!

Don't worry! Round 3 is coming soon!
I've just been super busy with work and life. And Halloween. I went to a super fun Halloween party on Saturday and got to wear my full costume for the first time. It was pretty great...but how do some of you people apply eye makeup every day without going crazy? Also, Prosaide is a very stubborn adhesive.
Anyway, I have a 7-day stretch of days off coming up, starting on Friday. That's the absolute latest the polls for Round 3 will go up.
In the meantime, here's something I drew at work during a slower chunk of the day. I promise I'm not trying to rig the results with all my FCA Lagoona content; I'm just excited that I got her, and that she looks so pretty in person.
See you soon!

calling all sfx makeup artists!
hello folks! i have a quick question regarding applying and paintings prosthetics. they're silicon-based and are also full-faced prosthetics. can i apply with spirit gum, or is prosaide best? also, can i mix paints? like if i use alcohol activated paint first, can i then put grease paints or water activated paint on top?
this is for a convention coming up so i want to have plenty of time to paint these and make sure they look good y'know? (aka this is me freaking out because the con is in 2 weeks and i still gotta make horns too)
below is the prosthetics! i have one more set coming but i figured if i got these done then i'll have an idea of what to do for the last one.

Harpy Eda Progress (random stuff because wow this project has been pure chaos)
Progress has been made but it’s all over the place since I’m procrastinating willingly on some things and forced to wait on others. So here is a bit progress update of random stuff
1. Wig
I bought a lace front in gray from Arda Wigs and one of their long white clip-on ponytails. I crimped both the ponytail and the wig, dismantled the ponytail’s mesh base, and took out the white wefts to glue them onto the main wig. Then I went back and teased almost the entire wig and steamed it to tone down the flyaways. I actually went through the spiking process twice because I hated the first version and didn’t account for the ears. (First version on the left, semi final version on the right)
2. Ears
I have tiny baby ears so I wasn’t sure I could find prosthetics in my size that weren’t custom made (aka expensive). So naturally I decided to spend a lot of time- and some money- to make them myself. I went through the long process of live-casting my ears with alginate (the goopy stuff they use to take tooth impressions at the dentist) and made a plaster cast of my small baby ears. I did a sculpt with Monster Clay and did a second alginate mold and plaster cast to have a nice base for the final latex ears. For the actual ears, these are liquid latex tinted with white acrylic paint and they are brushed/dabbed onto the base ears in thin layers. After 15-20 layers, I have to apply a stupid amount of baby powder to keep the latex from sticking to itself, and then I can carefully peel them off the plaster masters. They just get glued on with Prosaide afterwards and are pretty comfortable to wear.
3. Feathers
I have been in Adobe Illustrator hell creating feather SVGs for the laser cutter software Lightburn so that I can have a machine cut EVA foam feathers for me while I’m busy avoiding my corset mock-up by doing a full fabric stash inventory. There are five feather sizes with four variants of shapes in each size. Every feather has a red outline and dozens of detail texture lines drawn as tapered lines. These are plopped onto appropriately sized art boards that match the cutting area of the laser cutter which is 15x15 inches. Adobe also exports SVGs at 72 ppi (pixels per inch) and Lightburn treats everything as 96 ppi so I had to rescale everything. (Yes, me and the owner of the laser cutter found this through trial and error). The end result is a gorgeous bunch of feathers that I did not have to engrave by hand. There’s currently about 120 out of over 400 feathers cut so far
Everything else is still in early stages or waiting to be done after something else finishes (like the dress or corset that will support the wings’ backplate)

I am least looking forward to the prosthetic mustache, it's always nerve-wracking wondering whether the Prosaid will hold. XD

It's Rolan day! Gods above grant me the good judgement to know when is a reasonable time to start getting dressed so my makeup and prosaid isn't dissolving by the time of my shoot....well, the one I paid for anyway. I have a BG3 meetup at 11, then the professional shoot I paid for is at 3.

The budget has been made. Pieces have been ordered. The timeline has been estimated. It's me and my now 17 page planning document against the world.
tonight is experimenting with securing the domino mask with wig tape. Only one brand for now, but I have others to try if this one doesn't work out. I have high hopes because I really don't want to have to resort to ProsAide
I get to go to SDCC this year (!!!) and realized that if I want to get a cosplay together I need to have started working on it, like... months ago. But! I spent a good chunk of company time tonight compiling a 14 page and counting design document with brainstorming, references, needed materials & prices, construction methods, etc and I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna be Nightwing!Stephanie and it's gonna be rad as hell
#yknow. just chilling and doing home workouts in pajamas and a leather nightwing mask#it feels so silly but I gotta do the sweat test. it needs to stay on my face in awful july california heat#cosplay update#into the soup#shoutout to decade old cosplay forum advice posts. A goldmine of knowledge

October 1st...and... It's officially begun. I know, all you Halloween freaks out there are thinking the same thing. It's just so much fun! With the upcoming Ms VooDoo Vixen, I had to really think up something crazy original. See, my goal is not to blend in. I want to stand out - and I'm guaranteeing I will. I'm not going to reveal my full plan until closer til the event. This is one of the most epic special fx makeup jobs I will have ever done, and I can't help but say I'm more than a little excited and I so can't wait for Saturday. Consider Ms VooDoo Vixen my Halloween kick off ...it's going to be amazing. #halloween2019 #msvoodoovixen2019 #whatchagonnado #specialeffectsmakeup #prosaide #mehron3dgel #tikiparty #pinupcontest #soexcitedrightnow #cantwait #myfavoritepartoflife #livingmydreams #staytuned #jessicajune #jessicajunedoeshalloween #putaspellonyou #onthefirstdayofhalloween https://www.instagram.com/p/B3E-5WYFW49/?igshid=l7o0h49ro6io
