How To Choose The Right Engineered Hardwood Floors
Engineered hardwood floors are popular for a variety of reasons. They are durable, easy to maintain and add beauty to any home. However, choosing the right engineered hardwood floor can be a challenging task. This article will provide an overview of the considerations that must be made when selecting the best engineered hardwood flooring for your home. It will explore the different types and styles available on the market today, as well as important factors such as installation requirements, cost and maintenance considerations. By understanding these elements, you can select the perfect engineered hardwood floor for your home.
The first step in selecting an engineered hardwood floor is determining which type is best suited for your needs. There are two main categories: solid wood boards and composite boards. Solid wood boards consist of one layer of real wood while composite boards have multiple layers bonded together with adhesive. Each type has unique advantages and disadvantages to consider before making a final decision.
It is also important to consider installation requirements when selecting engineered hardwood floors. The installation process varies depending on the type of product you choose and whether you plan to install it yourself or hire a professional contractor. Professional installation may be necessary for certain types of engineered hardwood floors due to their complexity or if you require specialized tools for the job. Consider all options carefully before making a decision about which type of engineered hardwood floor to purchase and how it will be installed in your home.
Types Of Engineered Hardwood Floors
Engineered hardwood floors come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and finishes. Each type of engineered flooring has its own unique advantages, making it important to choose the right one for your project. The most common types of engineered hardwood are solid plank and laminate plank. Solid plank is made up of several layers of wood glued together, with a wear layer on top that provides protection against wear and tear. Laminate plank is made from multiple layers of wood pressed together, with a plastic or vinyl coating that provides protection against moisture. Both types of planks can be used for both residential and commercial applications.
The type of construction used in an engineered hardwood floor will depend on the intended use and application. For example, if you are looking for a durable flooring option for high traffic areas such as hallways or entryways, then solid plank would be the best choice due to its strength and durability. Laminate planks are better suited for areas where water resistance is required, such as bathrooms or kitchens. Both types also have different installation methods; solid planks generally require glue-down installation while laminate planks require click-lock installation making them easier to install than solid planks.
Factors To Consider When Buying
When selecting engineered hardwood floors, there are several factors to consider. These include moisture levels, installation type, grade of the wood and finish. Moisture levels need to be taken into account since they can affect the stability of the wood. If there is too much moisture in the air, it can cause the wood to swell and shrink. Therefore, it is important to choose boards that are designed for areas with high humidity or low moisture levels.
Installation type should also be taken into consideration when making a selection. Floating installations are usually best for engineered hardwood flooring as it allows for expansion and contraction without damaging the flooring or creating gaps between boards. Grade of the wood should also be considered as this will determine how long-lasting and durable your floor will be. It is best to choose higher grade woods if you want a more durable product that is less prone to scratches and dents from daily use. Finally, finish should also be taken into account as this will protect your flooring from everyday wear and tear while adding a beautiful appearance to your home decor. The right finish can enhance the look of any room while extending its life span.
Conclusion
Engineered hardwood floors are an excellent choice for many homeowners. With a variety of styles and options, it is important to consider the various factors that go into choosing the right flooring for your space. The right type of engineered hardwood floor will be one that meets all of your needs, while also providing a durable and attractive option.
The first step in selecting an engineered hardwood floor is to decide which type is best suited for your space. There are solid wood floors, laminate floors, and engineered wood floors. Each has their own unique characteristics and benefits that should be taken into account when making the decision. Solid wood floors offer a more traditional look and feel, while laminate floors have a more modern look and can be easier to install. Engineered wood floors combine the best of both worlds by providing an attractive appearance with increased stability and durability compared to solid or laminate options.
Once you have decided on the type of flooring for your space, it is important to consider other factors such as wear and tear, installation requirements, maintenance needs, cost, environmental impact, warranty coverage, etc. By taking all these considerations into account when making your decision, you can ensure that you choose the best option for your home's needs while also staying within budget.
In conclusion, there are many factors that go into selecting the right engineered hardwood flooring for your home. By considering all aspects such as type of flooring, wear and tear expectations, installation requirements, maintenance needs, cost considerations, environmental impact concerns and warranty coverage before making your purchase decision; homeowners can rest assured they will select an option that meets all their needs while staying within budget constraints.

angst and comfort :(
You jolt up from Eddieâs bed in a cold sweat. You feel gross. Your hands are clammy and your face is wet with tears. As you drift into proper consciousness, visions from your nightmare flicker through your mind; Eddie slowly levitating up and into the air while youâre frantically searching for his favourite mixtape, bawling your eyes out as his bones snap one by one and his body topples in a heap on the hardwood floor.
You start to crying again, sniffling and hiccuping. You go to recite music in your mind, lyrics one by one. Music is your main coping strategy, so this time when it canât calm you down, you go to your only other source - your best source - of happiness: Eddie. â¨The problem was that Eddie just came home from a nine hour shift at the automotive, and he was exhausted. He went to bed almost immediately, throwing himself onto the sofa and drifting goff within minutes.
You didnât want to wake him up.
You sobbed in bed for a while longer, slowly weighing the pros and cons of interrupting his well-deserved sleep.
Eventually, you told yourself, Fuck it, and got out of the blankets.
The springs groaned underneath you as you got up. It was only then that you realised how torn up you really were. The night air hit your body and you could feel the grogginess floating away, being replaced by sheer cold. You nervously shuffled your way to the living room, shivering a bit.
Eddieâs body lay peacefully on the sofa, sloppily covered by the worn-out blanket on top of him that you offered him before he retired for the night.
You stood nearby, watching his chest rise and fall and listening to his slightly heavy breathing. Although gazing at him was pleasantly calming at first, it soon brought back vivid flashes of the nightmare; screaming, shaking Eddie vigorously, trying desperately to get him to wake up, his empty eye sockets and bleeding face staring back at you. The thoughts make you choke down a sob and Eddie stirs.
âE-Eddie?â You hesitate, but finally being yourself to speak up. He stirs again. âEddie?â
He hums in response, not recognising the anxiousness in your voice because heâs still half-asleep. You walk up to him, trembling from the cold and from fear and tap his head lightly. You sniffle and he opens his eyes to find you looking terrified. He blinks a couple times to get himself to awaken completely.
He sits up and beings you in for a hug, as you shed tears against his shirt, âHey, hey, hey. Sh. Itâs okay. âM here. Iâve gotcha, sweetheart.â
You sit down with him and bury your head deep in his chest, wanting to be held and wanting to feel his heart beat to confirm that he was well and truly alive.
He holds your head and runs his calloused fingers through your hair, scratching your scalp lightly with one hand and holding your lower back with the other. His body is warm. Itâs like hugging a teddy bear. It feels perfect against your icy flesh.
He waits until youâve settled down, your breathing was still hitching regularly, but the sobbing had stopped. He pulls you away from his chest so he can see your face, dotting kisses on your forehead and rubbing your arm.
âWhat happened?â
âNightmareâŚâ You pause, âagain.â He pulls you in again and rests his chin on your head.
âS-Sorry.â You splutter, guilt suddenly striking you.
âNo, no. Donât be. Not your fault in the slightest.â His voice vibrates against you soothingly.
âUh,â You look down, separating yourself from him, âCould you come and sleep with me in the bed?â And his big, comforting smile told you everything you needed to know.

Is there going to be a part 3 to the yandere John wick piece?
Love how you wrote the first 2 parts.
Platonic Yandere John Wick Part 3
Inspired by @discoscoob
John is clearly in a dilemma, torn between the need to return to work and the concern for your well-being. He contemplates his options, his mind weighing the pros and cons of leaving you alone in the room.
After a moment of thought, an idea seems to form in his mind. He glances back down at you, his gaze taking in your weary and fevered state once more.
"Come here, sweetheart." he mutters, his voice firm but gentle as he moves to pick you up. You groan in protest, not wanting him to be anywhere near you. You are too tired to physically resist, and your head falls onto his shoulder.
Despite your reluctance and tiredness, John easily picks you up off the bed, his strong arms wrapping around your weary body as he supports you against his shoulder. He notices the groans but pays them no mind, his concern for your wellbeing overshadowing any protest you might have.
"Sshh, it's alright," he murmurs, his voice surprisingly soft as he holds you. His large frame envelopes your smaller body, his arms securely holding you close.
He rubs your pack in attempts to sooth you, not verbally addressing your discomfort. He takes you out of the glorified prison cell he calls your bedroom and down the hall to his office.
As he walks down the hall, he carries you into his office, his footsteps muffled against the hardwood floor. He takes a seat on the couch and delicately places you down next to him, keeping one arm on your back to ensure you stay upright and comfortable.
With a sense of practised care, John positions a pillow behind your back to support you and helps you to lean back against it. He then drapes a soft blanket over your weary form, making sure it covers you up snuggly and provides some comfort.
He adjusts the blanket and pillow until he's satisfied that you're comfortable, his touch gentle despite his usual firm demeanour.
After he's finished tucking the blanket in, he takes a moment to observe you, making sure you're settled in comfortably. He then reaches over to the ice pack he brought with him, taking it to place gently on your bruised cheek once more.
After securing the icepack on your bruised cheek, he moves away from the couch and goes to retrieve something from the other room. He returns a moment later with a cold, wet cloth and a tall glass of water with a straw inside.
He sits down on the couch beside you once more, holding your glass of water with one hand and the wet cloth in the other.
"Drink," he instructs gently, his voice a gruff murmur. He lifts the glass of water to your lips, offering it to you for sips. He watches you intently, his gaze assessing and concerned, waiting for you to take a few sips of the cold liquid.
You feel humiliated and embarrassed, you hate that you are allowing him to take care of you after what he's done.
As you slowly sip the water, John watches you intently, his eyes fixed on you. He can sense your inner turmoil, the humiliation and hatred you likely feel at his nurturing behaviour. His expression remains stoic but the way his eyes soften slightly suggests he understands your internal conflict.
He doesn't comment on your emotions, merely continues to offer you sips of the water, his gaze still fixated on your weary form.
You feel tears start to form in your eyes, shame crashing down on you. You turn away from him, not wanting him to see you cry.
John notices the tension in your shoulders and the way you turn your head away, trying to conceal the tears that are beginning to gather in your eyes. His expression remains stoic, but there's a hint of understanding in his gaze.
He watches you with keen awareness, his instinct to comfort you pulling at him, but he doesn't force it. He instead sets the glass of water down on the side table, his hand reaching out to gently rest on your shoulder.
"It's okay," he murmurs, his voice low and gravelly. "You can cry, sweetheart. You're tired, and you're unwell. It's alright."
He continues to hold his hand on your shoulder, his touch gentle and restrained. He's keenly aware of your emotions, the weight of the last few days bearing down on you.
He gently rubs his hand in soothing circles, his touch soft against your shoulder. He knows you're going through a lot, the emotional toll of the situation taking its toll on you.
He keeps his voice low and calm, hoping that the gentle comfort and security of his presence can help to soothe you, even just a little.
"Sshh, it's okay. Let it out."
âI donât know what you want from me..â You barely manage to get through the sentence without sobbing. You can't stop the sobs from coming out from your throat.
John listens intently as you speak, his thumb continuing to rub soothing circles on your shoulder. He can sense the pain and confusion in your voice, the raw emotion clear.
"I don't expect anything from you," he mutters, his voice firm but gentle. "Except for you to rest and let me take care of you."
He can see the tears welling in your eyes, the sobs barely suppressed, and it tugs at something in his stoic heart.
You use the last of your energy to try and push his hand off of your shoulder, Put he seems to take that as an opportunity to hold your hand.
As you try to punch away his hand, his reflexes are too quick and he simply responds by gently gripping your hand, keeping you from pulling away. His grip is firm but not painful, his touch surprisingly gentle for a man as ruthless as he is.
He doesn't comment on your attempt to resist, merely holding your hand in his own, his eyes holding a mix of curiosity and understanding. Heâs trying to comfort you, in the best way he can.
You try to pull your hand out of his, but he doesnât let go. You are upset and disoriented, this fever is horrible.
As you try to pull your hand away from his again, John doesn't let go; he only tightens his grip, holding your much smaller and weaker hand in his own. He doesn't comment on your resistance, merely keeping a gentle yet firm hold on you.
"Stop," he mutters, his voice firm. "You're sick and tired. Let me help you."
âI wanna go homeâŚâ You mumble, trying to turn away from him.
As you mumble your desire to go "home" and turn away from him, he gently but firmly grips your shoulder, preventing you from turning too far.
"You are home," he mutters, his voice steady and calm. "And I'm taking care of you now."
He doesn't release his hold on your shoulder or hand, keeping you close to him despite your resistance. You cry into the pillow, balling your fists so hard your knuckles turn white.
He watches as you cry into the pillow, your fists clenched so tightly that your knuckles have turned white. He can sense the depth of your emotion, the pain and frustration that are overwhelming you.
He doesn't try to stop you from crying, instead he simply keeps a steady grip on your shoulder, his thumb rubbing gentle circles on your skin in an attempt to soothe you.
"Sshh, let it out," he murmurs, his voice gruff yet gentle.
Your fingernails dig into the palm of your hand, your hands shaking. You canât unclench your fists.
John watches as your fingernails dig into the palms of your hands, your fists shaking from the force with which you are clenching them. He can see the pain and anguish on your face, the tears streaming down your cheeks.
He tightens his grip on your shoulder, not out of punishment but to ground you.
"Sshh, you're hurting yourself," he mutters, his voice firm but full of concern. "Relax your hands. Let me see them."
He begins to pry your fingers apart, loosening the vice-like grip you have on yourself.
"Careful," he murmurs. "Let me see."
His concern is evident in his eyes, the way they search yours intently as he frees your fingers from their painful clench.
With his fingers now gently grasping your hand, John slowly coaxes your clenched fingers apart, easing the pressure on your palms. He notices the red welts on your skin where your nails were pinched against the sensitive flesh.
"Easy," he mutters, his tone gentle but firm. "Let me see your hands."
He reaches for your other hand, carefully undoing the other clenched fist with the same careful precision.
John senses your resistance when he moves to inspect your shaking hands. He can see the way your fingers twitch slightly, your fingers refusing to open.
"It's okay," he murmurs, his tone gentle yet firm. "I'm not going to hurt you. I just need to check your hands. Let me see them."
His touch is still gentle as he continues to coax your fingers apart, trying to ease your resistance but firm enough to not be ignored.
After a few moments of coaxing, John successfully pries your clenched hand open, revealing the raw and red flesh where your nails had pinched the skin.
He lets out a soft sigh, his expression a mixture of concern and frustration. His eyes rake over your trembling hand, taking in the sight of the indents where your fingers had been digging.
He gently takes your hand in his own, bringing it closer to his face to inspect it more closely. His touch is light, as he delicately runs his thumb over the indents left by your nails.
"Sshh, it's okay," he whispers softly, his voice a soothing murmur. "I'm not going to hurt you."
His eyes remain fixed on your injured hand, a frown on his face as he examines the damage caused by your clenched fists.
John notices the lack of blood on your hands, a clear sign that your clenched fists hadn't been strong enough to draw any blood. He watches as you roll over onto your side, facing away from him and the couch cushions.
His frown deepens at your gesture, but he doesn't try to force you to turn back around. Instead, he remains silent for a moment, his eyes fixed on your back as you curl into yourself.
After a moment of stillness, he lets out a deep sigh, his chest rising and falling heavily in a manner that betrays his own inner turmoil. He's clearly wrestling with a range of emotions - concern, confusion, frustration, and something else.
He hesitates for a moment before speaking. "May I turn you back over?" he finally mutters, his tone more gentle than usual.
âNo..â You mumble, curling into a ball. Your skin is prickly with how warm it is, it's hard to think straight. You wipe your tears away with the blanket draped over you.
He listens to your soft, shaky "no" and the way you try to hide your tears by wiping them away with the blanket wrapped around you. His eyes follow the movement, his expression still a mix of concern and curiosity.
He's silent for a few moments before trying again, his voice softer than usual. "Please? I just want to look at you."
You groan, not wanting to be moved again. But you donât have the energy to resist.
John doesn't hesitate and gently turns you over, his touch gentle yet firm. He places the ice pack under your bruised eye once more, his fingers cool against your warm skin.
He then tucks the blanket back around you, the soft material cocooning your tired body and chasing away any drafts. John's expression remains stoic, his gaze fixed on you as he carefully adjusts the blankets around you.
After making sure you are comfortable and well-covered, John steps back, his eyes still fixed on you. His expression is pensive, his mind clearly pondering the situation.
"I need to go and make some calls," he mutters, his voice gruff yet laced with concern. "I'll be back soon, alright?"

TTN hobie and reader during the middle/end of TTN when they r together but before she leaves for LA and r is helping hobie finish setting up his boat and r adding all of her belongings around the house before/while she moves in
-đď¸ anon
Hihihihi Thank you for the lovely request! TTN! Hobie has my heart â¤ď¸
Pairing: Hobie Brown x fem! Reader/ Spider-Punk x fem! Reader
Tags: TTN! Hobie, TTN! Reader, kissing, suggestive content. Story is set before the epilogue and in the middle of chapter 10. Spoilers for thread the needle. Fluff.
Thread The Needle Masterlist
Ęâ ¡â á´Ľâ ¡â Ę
You didn't waste any time moving in with Hobie. No slowly leaving your things around the house, no slyly stashing your clothes right next to his, not even waiting for the day of your graduation. You and Hobie just decided on a date to move all your belongings to his boat and did it, no side stepping, no dilly dallying, no excuses. Just you and Hobie making round trips from your dorm to the houseboat, arms full of boxes and heavy bags.
The sewing machine was the challenge, being heavy and clunky. Yuri was kind enough to lend you her car for the day, but couldn't help you in moving since she had to study for a quiz. You were kind of thankful for that though, now you have more time to spend with just him and piles and piles of your belongings. Still, with the help of Yuri's beetle, it took two trips of packing and unpacking your stuff.
Hobie never complained nor huffed at the effort, eyes always on your form, arms at the ready to lift boxes for you. You're eternally grateful, that's probably why you're snogging him on the floor of his boat instead of setting up your sewing machine or unpacking your suitcases.
"I need" kiss "to" kiss "unpack." You say in between smacking of lips. Giggling, as if you're not the one instigating the kiss. Back on the hardwood floor, arms looped around his neck, your palm spread over his nape. You resist the urge to glue him into place with your legs, instead you lay limp under him. Eyes tightly closed, smiling through it all.
His strong arms lift him up for a moment before examining your flustered face, beaming up at him. Hobie tilts his head, contemplating if it's worth leaving your arms so you two could unpack. He weighs the pros and cons, deciding.
"Nah" you squeal when he comes back down, expertly moving his lips against yours, every curve and plushness of it already memorized. He knows what to do to incite that sound you make just for him.
You laugh loudly when he presses the soft skin just over your rib cage, ticklish, you pull away with a giggle. Pupils blown out, you stare at his equally large pupils. Breathing heavy, you pinch his nose as revenge.
He surrenders, coming down from the high of kissing you. Eyes roaming around his, no, yours and his living room full of your stuff littered around the place. The kitchen island with your Gromit mug that you claim to despise even though you always use it. Next to it is your school bag, pins and patches decorate the backpack, some of them you've nicked from Hobie.
On the floor next to you are boxes full of your projects, hours upon hours of hard work inside. You giddily showed it all to him before you ended up on the floor from teasing him too much. Clothes and pieces of cloth were put back hastily inside the box just before you descended on the floor. With Hobie's hand placed on the back of your head so you don't smack it against the wood.
After a minute of staring and your laugh bouncing off the walls, Hobie finally speaks, with the full intention of actually starting the process of unpacking.
"Where to first? I could set up the machineâ"
"Bedroom" you say with a not so sly smile, half lidded eyes staring at him with fondness.
He blinks in surprise, a low groan in his throat, smirk playing on his kiss bitten lips. "No time to waste then" lifting you up effortlessly, you hide your victorious laugh over his skin. Face hot on his neck. Equally hot hands on the back of your thighs, making sure you don't fall.
Hobie practically jogs over, kicking the door open. It hits the wall with a slam, he stops in his tracks after seeing more piles of boxes on his bed.
Guess you two actually needed to unpack beforehand, whoops.
A/n: Will be posting more of these separate from fluffy fridays! Thank you for reading! â¤ď¸

rating ways i get around as a ~1 month non-ambulatory wheelchair user in order of discovery (reblogging if/when i find a new method)
1. a hospital-issued wheelchair. iâve already complained about these on my blog at length, hereâs my last one. iâve been in a few different ones, so this will have to be my broader takeaways. pros: better than dirty public floors, more efficient than any chair-less method, a couple did have pushrims. cons: not right for any real outings or outside tasks at all (you do not want to be in one a minute longer than you strictly have to), not really comfortable, designed overall to make it easy for caregivers, not really to give independence (i suppose not an objective flaw, more of a reality that didnât mix well with my situation or personality). 5/10.
2. being carried. this one depends a little bit on the person, but i kind of hate the principle either way. i donât want another back injury in the world and it feels humiliating. pros: it hasnât had to happen often (and will hopefully happen less as i make my living situation more accessible). cons: like, everything. not fun for the person who has to do it and not fun for me. depends again on the person and their method, but rarely comfortable, practical, or sustainable. 1/10.
3. âpikeâ position (sitting up, legs in front of me, sliding my body with my arms). pros: i can be fully independent, it feels good just to move, and i can even tackle the stairs in my parentsâ house like this. can be fun on hardwood. cons: not as fast as a chair, friction can complicate things, especially when iâm not wearing full-length pants (cEDS), canât really reach anything above light switch level (thatâs if i strain), can make your arms BURN (especially going up stairs). only really practical inside homes. 6/10, would be rated higher if i could do it in other places.
4. lotus pose. this is basically a variation of the last, except i fold my legs in a specific way. i feel like it reduces drag in some ways? pros: somewhat more sustainable, easier to open doors and go upstairs. cons: harder/scarier to go downstairs (+ friction, canât do it in public). 6.5/10.
5. custom manual wheelchair. it came only a few days ago, so my feelings could change. it doesnât quite⌠feel like an extension of my body? yet? i need to learn wheelies. pros: like everything. so much faster than the last three methods, i can use it in public, designed for long-term use and my body specifically. cons: the accessibility problems that come with a wheelchair, canât navigate my house as easily, rough on fingers and a shoulders after a while. 7.5/10.

An Email Through Time
You have mail⌠You have mailâŚ
The computer echoed across the room. The robotic voice flowing through the speakers sounded as though it was trapped inside of a tin can. Old hardware seemed strangely difficult to upgrade in the Age of Technology. I groaned, slamming a pillow over my face and tuning out the sound of the broken notification system. Youâd think that one alert would be enough.Â
Almost as if a God above watched me in spite, my alarm clock blared on my bedside table. Iâd always been a strong advocate for sleeping in. Waking up at five in the morning to catch the train to work seemed to exacerbate my affliction. I grabbed my phone, silenced the alarm, and checked my social media. It was my daily routine and a comfort I had grown accustomed to.Â
You have mail⌠You have mailâŚ
The notifications from my computer did not stop, interrupting my routine. Slowly, I dragged myself out of bed and over to my cluttered desk. I sat down quickly, the rolling chair under me was not expecting my sudden weight and rolled away. I grabbed the corners of the desk and pulled myself back. Clicking through my computer, I looked at my new mail. Most were ads or subscriptions that I had long since forgotten about. Nothing of interest caught my eye until I saw a subject line in all caps.Â
READ IMMEDIATELYÂ
My heart began to beat faster. The email was only a few hours old, landing in my inbox while I was deep in sleep. The email address was clear as day. The same string of letters and numbers that I had created so many years ago. I had begged my mom for weeks to let me create an email. I had wanted to play my online games, but I could never have imagined that one day this would be waiting for me.
I had heard from so many of my friends that they had all received emails from the future. I didnât believe them, choosing to think they were being scammed by someone who wanted them to buy thousands of dollars in gift cards. But, with my email address staring back at me, I felt a pressure in my chest that I could not comprehend.Â
The news had not spoken of this phenomenon yet, but in the coming years, it would wreak havoc on the world as we knew it. We would be able to communicate with our past selves. As far as I knew, my friends had only used it to warn themselves away from boys who would eventually break their hearts. At the time, it seemed silly to me. There were pros and cons I suppose. On one hand, you would save yourself the pain of a breakup, but on the other, you would be restricting yourself. You'd be limiting the deep and enriching moments you have with other people.
My heart was in my throat as my finger hovered over the mouse. I wasnât sure if I even wanted to read it. But, I knew myself. If, in the future, I had become okay with this procedure, there was a reason. Or, even more horrific, I still wasnât on board with it in the future but had to make the difficult choice because of a catastrophe waiting to happen.Â
I took a deep breath and clicked the email.Â
SUBJECT: READ IMMEDIATELYÂ
Today, for you, it is March 15th, 2025. Do not under any circumstances go to work.Â
Short and sweet. To the point. Distressingly so.Â
âI have to go to work,â I spoke out loud. âWhat the fuck. I have to go to work!â I began to get frustrated. I canât imagine a world where I have forgotten my constant struggle with money.
I searched through my email frantically, praying that there would be another message holding more context than âDonât goâ. Itâs honestly so typical of me to leave out pertinent information. Maybe future me knew that if I was told why I shouldnât go, I wouldnât think it was a big deal. I left it vague to set off this type of response in myself.Â
I cursed under my breath and stared at the phone lying on my desk. I thought of the shopâs number, reciting it in my mind like a mantra. My foot bounced against the hardwood flooring and I rubbed my eyes in frustration.Â
I picked up the phone and dialed the number, placing the phone on speaker and laying it back down on my desk. My manager, Meghan, answered in a somber tone.Â
âI canât come in today.âÂ
âWhat? Eileen, come on. Youâre the third person to call out this morning. If one more person calls out Iâll have to close the shop for the day.âÂ
âWait, other people are calling out?âÂ
âYeah, and if you donât come in Iâm fucked.âÂ
âMegâŚâ I rubbed at my temples. âPlease. I never call out. This is my first sick day in over a year.âÂ
I heard a deep sigh come through the speakers. âI know. Youâre my best employee for a reason. Do you know why everyone is calling out?âÂ
âI can take a guess,â I said, running my mouse over the cryptic email. âYou know, you should probably close for the day. I donât know why. I just have a bad feeling about today.âÂ
I had worked with Meg for seven years. We had been the only consistencies through years of other people quitting or being fired. She deserved her spot as manager. Well, she deserved a more lucrative job, but if she had to stay in a shithole, she might as well manage it.Â
âWhat are you talking about?âÂ
âI got an email from the future. You know, like Dennis was talking about a few weeks ago?âÂ
The line went quiet for a moment, then clicking from a computer mouse. Meg gasped.Â
âI just⌠This is impossible. I thought we always said it was bullshit.âÂ
âI thought it was too. What happened?âÂ
âI just checked my email. I got one too. Oh my god, this is so scary.â Meg took a deep breath and cleared her thoughts. âOkay, I am thoroughly terrified, so Iâm going to close up the shop for today. Iâll send everyone who is here home and then Iâll send a mass text to all the employees that we will be closing for the day. That seems like a good idea. Iâll text the boss and tell him that too many people called in sick and that it is impossible to run the store with three people.âÂ
âGood. Wanna come over?âÂ
Meg laughed as she began the process of closing down the store. âI feel like we shouldnât be in groups, what if itâs like the apocalypse or something?âÂ
âIf it was like the apocalypse I think the news would be reporting on mass emails. Come on, we can wait it out together. I have alcohol!â
âWell, neither of us works tomorrow-âÂ
âAnd maybe we will never have to work again!â I laughed into the microphone. This entire situation was much more than I could bear on my own.Â
âOkay. Fine, give me an hour to close up and Iâll be there. You better have breakfast ready for me, Iâm starving.âÂ
âOf course, whatever your heart desires shall be yours.âÂ
Meg laughed and hung up. I put my phone down and stretched my back against the chair. I allowed my head to spin for a few moments before shaking it off and heading to the living room. I cleared any garbage, refolded the throw blankets, and fluffed the pillows on the couch. Walking into the kitchen I noticed last nightâs dinner plates sitting in the sink. I groaned and got to work cleaning. Once I was done, I realized how much time I had before Meg would arrive.Â
I plopped onto the couch, trying to wrap my mind around the events of the morning. I could not come up with any substantial theories and it hurt my brain to think about it. When I started to make breakfast, the email was still burned into my brain. Do not under any circumstances go to work. I made large strips of bacon, scrambled eggs, and buttered toast. Do not under any circumstances go to work. I ran around the kitchen, looking for the blueberry muffin mix that I knew I had bought. Do not under any circumstances go to work. Finally, I took a deep breath and placed my hands on the counter to steady myself. I needed to relax. It was probably just a fluke or a scam.Â
As I finished breakfast, Meg had arrived. She sat down at the kitchen table and filled her plate. I poured her a glass of orange juice and apologized for the lack of muffins. She rolled her eyes and ate her fill of eggs and bacon. I pecked at the food, but I was no longer hungry. My stomach was still in knots. Â
Meg insisted that we have the news on in the background, in case something happened while we lounged around for most of the day. We swapped stories and gossiped about the people we knew. None of it mattered and that was exactly what we needed to take our minds off the heavy weight in our hearts.
We had ordered an early dinner before I started work on a large pitcher of margaritas. I had to make good on my promise of alcohol. Between pulses on the blender, Meg filled me in on the contents of the latest romance book she had finished. We laughed at all the protagonist's stupid decisions.Â
âIt was like a Hallmark movie. You have to read it.âÂ
I sat down with our glasses and we talked for hours. By 10:30, we were drunk and giggling like any other night. Meg was gushing over how cute Dennis was. She said that sheâd love to ask him out but didnât think that he liked her. I rolled my eyes and smiled. âI donât think Iâve ever seen someone so in love. You should text him.âÂ
âWhat? Right now? No way, I could barely keep a conversation with him going right now.âÂ
I threw my head back with laughter. âYouâre probably right. In the morning, then?âÂ
Meg repositioned herself on the couch, swirling her almost empty martini glass. She was quiet for a moment.Â
âHere, let me get you a refill,â I said, grabbing her glass and walking into the kitchen.Â
âI canât believe we got those damn emails, itâs like-â She cut herself off, I turned to look at her. She was staring at the TV, the look on her face sobered me. âTurn the volume up. Come here, turn the volume up!â She was frantically looking for the remote. I rushed back in, swiping it off the armchair and raising the volume.Â
A lone reporter stood in the center of the city, our storefront in the background of the broadcast. The street was desolate, an unsettling sight. The area had a lively nightlife. There were many bars within half a mile of that spot and a slew of businesses that stayed open late to accommodate the heavy, drunk, foot traffic. Seeing it empty left a pit in my stomach.Â
ââŚAfter nearly twelve hours, police still have no clue what has happened in the city. Unfortunately, there are no witnesses. The area has been almost abandoned. Families are saying that their loved ones came into the city this morning to go to work. At some point, around 11 am, they stopped responding to texts or calls. Nobody has heard from them since.âÂ
Meg had a hand over her mouth, muffling any gasps she would accidentally release. My head felt like it was spinning again. I checked my phone. I was bombarded by texts and calls but my fingers shook too much to respond to any. Twelve hours had passed since these people had gone missing. I felt my breathing become faster and my heartbeat grew louder.Â
ââŚWe are unsure of what this means, where these people have gone, or if they will come back. The police have put a lockdown on the area. Once we have wrapped here, not a single soul is allowed in or out of the area.âÂ
âWe would have been there,â Meg said, stating the obvious thought that floated through the room.Â
âAnd if we were there, we would have disappeared.âÂ
âSo, if we disappeared, how could we have emailed ourselves?âÂ
Meg and I looked at each other for a long moment before reverting our attention to the screen.Â
Youâve got mail⌠Youâve got mailâŚ
Meg and I jumped out of our skin, the notification seemed like thunder in a world that was quiet enough to hear a pin drop.Â
âSorry,â I said, shaking my head and getting up to check my email. As I entered my bedroom, I looked out the window onto the open street below. Nobody was walking and there werenât any cars driving, but all the apartments were lit up with people flitting around inside. Everyone was too terrified to leave their homes.Â
âNobody is outside,â I called to Meg, hoping to share in the unease. I shook the computer mouse, bringing my computer screen back to life. The newest email made my heart leap again. I couldnât take much more of this.Â
SUBJECT: THANK YOU
I canât begin to explain how grateful I am. Iâm not sure how time will flow moving forward, but you stopped us from, technically, enduring the worst experience of our life. I do not know what happens from here but thank you for saving us.Â
The message was still so cryptic. What did I save us from? How would this change events in the future? Will I remember an event I didnât experience? Well, technically, I guess I did experience it, but this current form of myself didnât. I began to feel nauseous. Margaritas didnât seem to go well with changing the course of the future.
I stood from my desk and walked slowly back to the living room. Meg was staring at her phone screen, tears pouring down her face. She looked up at me, holding her phone in my direction. I took it gingerly and read the email that was brightly displayed on her screen.Â
It was the same.

can i request? reader is together with kise, and is bestfriends with akashi. akashi caring and being protective of reader like a sister. while kise loves reader, there isn't denying that having a relationship with a celebrity, one that is flocked by girls, is challenging. wholesome, sweet but also with a little dash of angst please! thank you for writing!!!
I love a good angst request (°âĄÂ°âĄ) Admin Neon
âIâm sick and tired of this always happening, Sei!â
On the other end of the line, you heard Akashi give off somewhat of a sigh. It sounded garbled through the phone receiver, drowned out by the clicking of your shoes on your hardwood floors. You were pacing, trying to fill the echoing silence in your home with something â anything.
âWhat happened this time?â you heard Akashi ask through the phone, though his tone of voice implied that he already knew.
âSame as usual,â you bit out bitterly. Youâd come to a pause near your homeâs front door, leaning a shoulder up against a wall as you screwed your eyes shut in frustration, replaying the events of your date in mind. âSomeone recognized Ryouta and asked for a picture. Instead of waving them off, saying he was busy, he humored them. Then a whole fucking line of them came out of the woodworks.â
You heard a noise, like a braying, and you paused in your rant.
âAre you at the stables?â
âIâm paying Yukimaru a visit today,â Akashi answered.
You could hear the horse breathing in the background and the sound of it softened the hard edges of your anger a bit. You deflated, doubt filling up the spaces where fury once occupied. This time it was your turn to let out a heavy sigh. Pressing your back against the door, you sank down until you were seated on the floor, head in your hands.
âI didnât think dating a celebrity would be this hard,â you lamented. âI donât know if I can do this anymore, Sei. Maybe I should break up with Ryouta.â
You continued your conversation with Akashi, weighing out the pros and cons.
Outside your home, holding a bouquet of pink carnations and purple hyacinths, Kise stood staring at the thin wooden door, having heard every word. He bit his lip, holding back the call of your name he desperately wanted to utter. Glancing down at your doorstep, he gently placed the bouquet down on the welcome mat. He gave the door one last look before walking away.

The Ultimate Guide To Choosing The Right Timber Flooring In Sydney: For Your Home
When it comes to enhancing the aesthetic and functionality of your home, few flooring options can compete with timber. Offering a timeless look, incredible durability, and a range of style options, timber flooring in Sydney is a popular choice for homeowners looking to elevate their interiors. Whether you're building a new home, renovating an existing space, or upgrading your floors, this guide will help you navigate the world of timber flooring, offering valuable insights on types, benefits, and where to find the best options in Sydney.
Why Choose Timber Flooring in Sydney?
Timber flooring is known for its beauty and versatility, and itâs easy to see why it remains one of the most popular flooring choices. Hereâs why timber flooring is ideal for homes in Sydney:
Natural Beauty: Timber floors bring warmth, texture, and a sense of timeless elegance to any room. The natural grains, rich colors, and unique patterns of timber add a luxurious appeal that can suit any style, from contemporary to rustic.
Durability and Longevity: Timber is known for its strength and durability. High-quality hardwoods like oak, blackbutt, and spotted gum can last for decades with proper care. Unlike carpets or vinyl, timber doesnât need to be replaced frequently, making it a long-term investment in your home.
Increased Property Value: Timber flooring is a premium feature that can increase your homeâs market value. Many buyers view timber floors as a desirable feature, and homes with timber floors tend to sell faster and at higher prices.
Sustainability: Timber is a renewable resource, and many timber flooring options are sourced from sustainable forests. Choosing eco-friendly timber floors ensures you're making a responsible decision for the environment while adding beauty to your home.
Easy Maintenance: Timber floors are relatively easy to maintain. Regular cleaning involves sweeping or vacuuming to remove dirt and dust, and occasional mopping with a damp cloth keeps the floor looking fresh. Unlike carpets, timber doesnât trap allergens, making it a healthier choice for those with allergies.
Types of Timber Flooring in Sydney
When considering timber flooring for your home, there are a few options to choose from, each with its own unique features. Hereâs a breakdown of the most common types of timber flooring in Sydney:
1. Solid Timber Flooring
Solid timber flooring is made from a single piece of wood, and itâs often considered the most authentic form of timber flooring. It provides the natural beauty and durability of hardwood and can be sanded and refinished multiple times throughout its life. Solid timber is ideal for creating a classic and high-end look in your home.
Popular Species: Oak, blackbutt, spotted gum, jarrah, and maple.
Best For: Living rooms, dining areas, bedrooms, and hallways.
Pros: Long lifespan, can be refinished, authentic and natural look.
Cons: Can be more expensive, susceptible to moisture and humidity changes.
2. Engineered Timber Flooring
Engineered timber flooring is made of multiple layers of wood, with a hardwood veneer on top. This design offers greater stability and resistance to temperature and humidity changes compared to solid timber. Engineered timber is often more affordable and easier to install than solid timber.
Best For: Kitchens, bathrooms, and other areas with fluctuating temperatures and humidity levels.
Pros: More stable, cost-effective, suitable for underfloor heating, versatile designs.
Cons: Cannot be sanded and refinished as many times as solid timber.
3. Hybrid Timber Flooring
Hybrid flooring combines the aesthetic appeal of timber with the resilience of other materials, such as vinyl or stone-plastic composite (SPC). Itâs an ideal choice for areas that require extra durability, like kitchens, bathrooms, and high-traffic zones. Hybrid floors are water-resistant, making them a great option for homes in Sydney, where humidity can vary.
Best For: Kitchens, bathrooms, and other moisture-prone areas.
Pros: Water-resistant, highly durable, easy to maintain, budget-friendly.
Cons: Limited natural wood appearance, may not have the same premium feel as solid or engineered timber.
4. Bamboo Flooring
Bamboo is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional timber. Itâs a fast-growing grass that can be harvested sustainably, making it a highly renewable resource. Bamboo flooring offers the same durability and aesthetic appeal as hardwood but at a more affordable price point. Itâs available in a variety of finishes and colors to suit different tastes.
Best For: Living areas, bedrooms, and hallways.
Pros: Sustainable, durable, affordable, hypoallergenic.
Cons: Can be prone to scratches and dents in high-traffic areas, susceptible to moisture if not maintained properly.
Benefits of Timber Flooring in Sydney
Aesthetic Versatility: Timber floors come in a variety of finishes, including matte, satin, gloss, or distressed. Whether you prefer a modern, sleek appearance or a rustic, textured look, there is a timber flooring option to suit your style.
Thermal Comfort: Timber naturally insulates your home, providing a comfortable and warm environment in cooler months. This makes timber flooring an ideal choice for Sydneyâs varied climate, where temperature fluctuations can occur.
Hypoallergenic: Timber flooring is naturally resistant to dust, mold, and mildew, making it a great choice for allergy sufferers. Unlike carpets, timber doesnât trap dust mites or allergens, improving indoor air quality.
Low Environmental Impact: When sourced sustainably, timber is one of the most eco-friendly flooring options. Many timber flooring suppliers in Sydney offer products that are certified by environmental organisations, ensuring that your flooring choice supports responsible forestry practices.
Where to Buy Timber Flooring in Sydney
There are several reputable flooring suppliers and retailers in Sydney where you can find high-quality timber flooring options. Some well-known stores to consider include:
Sydney Timber Flooring: Known for offering premium-quality hardwood and engineered timber flooring, Sydney Timber Flooring offers a variety of wood species to suit different preferences.
Bunnings Warehouse: A popular DIY store, Bunnings carries a wide range of timber flooring, including solid and engineered timber, at competitive prices.
Flooring Xtra: With an extensive selection of timber flooring options from both local and international suppliers, Flooring Xtra is a trusted retailer for homeowners and contractors.
Harvey Norman: This well-known Australian retailer offers a variety of timber flooring products, with options for both DIY installation and professional services.
The Timber Flooring Centre: Specialising in timber flooring products and services, this store offers expert advice and a variety of options for your next flooring project.
Timber Flooring Maintenance Tips
To keep your timber floors looking their best, regular maintenance is essential. Here are some easy care tips:
Sweep or Vacuum Regularly: Dirt and dust can scratch the surface of timber flooring, so be sure to sweep or vacuum regularly to keep your floors clean.
Wipe Up Spills Immediately: Timber is sensitive to moisture, so itâs essential to clean up spills right away to prevent warping or staining.
Avoid Excess Water: Use a damp mop, not a soaking wet one, to clean your floors. Too much water can damage the timber and cause it to warp over time.
Polish and Refinish as Needed: Depending on the type of timber you have, you may need to periodically refinish or polish your floors to maintain their shine and protect the finish.
Conclusion
Timber flooring is a beautiful, durable, and sustainable flooring choice for any home in Sydney. With a variety of options to choose fromâsolid, engineered, hybrid, and bambooâyou can find the perfect timber floor to match your style, budget, and functional needs. Whether youâre upgrading an existing space or starting fresh with a new home, timber floors offer timeless appeal and long-term value that will last for years to come.
Investing in high-quality timber flooring will not only enhance the look of your home but also improve its functionality and increase its value, making it a smart decision for homeowners in Sydney.

Signs You Are Buying a Home in Good Condition
Signs You Are Buying a Home in Good Condition | The Listing Team
Signs You Are Buying a Home in Good Condition
Buying a home can be exciting and overwhelming, especially for first-time buyers. While location, price, and layout often dominate the decision-making process, understanding the physical condition of the property is equally important.
A home in poor condition can lead to costly repairs and unexpected challenges, turning what should be a dream purchase into a financial burden. Although a professional home inspection is a vital step in the process, learning the signs you are buying a house in good condition will also save time and provide added peace of mind.
A Well-Maintained Exterior
A home's exterior can reveal much about how well its owners have maintained the property. Look for clean siding or well-kept brickwork, properly functioning gutters, and a roof that appears intact without missing or damaged shingles. Pay attention to the foundation as well; large cracks, uneven spots, or water pooling around the base could be red flags for structural issues.
Properly Functioning Doors and Windows
Doors and windows are critical to a home's functionality and energy efficiency. Check that doors close smoothly and latch properly without squeaking or sticking. Ensure windows open and shut without resistance and that their seals appear intact. Drafts near doors or windows can indicate poor insulation or needed upgrades, increasing future costs for heating and cooling. High-quality, functional windows and doors improve the home's energy efficiency and indicate attention to detail in maintenance.
A Garage in Good Condition
If the home has a garage, it is important to assess its condition, as this space often reflects the overall care given to the property. Look for cracks in the garage floor or signs of water damage. Pay close attention to the garage door, ensuring it opens and closes smoothly and doesnât exhibit unusual noises or resistance. Garage door warning signs for homebuyers might include sagging sections, rusty parts, or a motor that struggles to operate.
Updated Plumbing and Electrical Systems
Check faucets for steady water flow and ensure the water pressure is consistent throughout the home. Look for any signs of leaks under sinks or around water heaters, which could lead to long-term damage. Test light switches and electrical outlets to ensure everything is functioning correctly. An up-to-date circuit breaker panel and properly labeled circuits indicate that the home's electrical systems are in order.
Clean and Safe Flooring
Inspect the flooring throughout the home to ensure it is in good condition. Hardwood floors should not have large gaps or noticeable warping, while carpets should be free of stains and smells. Tiles should be firmly in place without cracks or chips, and grout lines should appear clean. Damaged flooring can be costly, so identifying issues early on can help you consider whether the home is worth the investment.
By learning to identify the signs you are buying a home in good condition, you will feel more confident in your decision. While no house is perfect, spotting these positive indicators allows you to weigh the pros and cons effectively.

Bathroom Laminate Flooring vs. Tiles: Pros and Cons for Modern Homes
When it comes to bathroom flooring, homeowners are often torn between two popular options: laminate flooring and tiles. Each offers distinct advantages and potential drawbacks, making it crucial to understand their characteristics before making a decision. This guide explores the pros and cons of both flooring types, helping you determine which one suits your style, budget, and functional needs.
Choosing the right flooring for your bathroom is an essential decision. The bathroom experiences heavy foot traffic, water exposure, and fluctuating humidity levels, which means durability and aesthetics are both important. At Westcoast Floors, we believe every homeowner deserves a bathroom floor that blends beauty and practicality. Let's dive into the details of laminate flooring and tiles to help you make an informed choice.
What Is Bathroom Laminate Flooring?
Bathroom laminate flooring is a synthetic flooring option composed of layers of fiberboard, a photographic applique layer, and a protective top layer. Modern advancements, such as waterproof laminate flooring, have made this option more suitable for bathrooms.
Key Features:
Affordable and versatile
Available in a wide range of designs
Offers moisture resistance with the right installation
What Are Bathroom Tiles?
Bathroom tiles are typically made from ceramic, porcelain, or natural stone. Polished tiles and matte finishes are popular choices, offering a sleek, timeless look. Tiles are favored for their durability and water resistance, making them a go-to option for bathrooms.
Key Features:
Water-resistant and easy to clean
Available in various materials and designs
Provides a high-end look to bathrooms
Pros of Bathroom Laminate Flooring
Affordability: Laminate flooring is budget-friendly, making it an excellent choice for cost-conscious homeowners. At Westcoast Floors, we offer premium laminate options that mimic the look of hardwood or stone at a fraction of the price.
Easy Installation: Laminate flooring is designed for simple installation, often with a click-and-lock mechanism. This can save time and money during renovations.
Aesthetic Variety: From natural wood finishes to modern patterns, laminate flooring offers endless design possibilities.
Comfort: Laminate floors feel softer and warmer underfoot compared to tiles, enhancing bathroom comfort.
Maintenance: With regular sweeping and mopping, laminate flooring remains clean and presentable. Waterproof varieties make maintenance even easier.
Cons of Bathroom Laminate Flooring
Water Sensitivity: While waterproof laminate flooring exists, traditional laminate can warp or swell with prolonged water exposure. Proper sealing is crucial.
Durability: Laminate may scratch or dent more easily than tiles, requiring care to maintain its appearance.
Resale Value: Laminate may not add the same value to your home as high-quality tiles, which are seen as more luxurious.
Pros of Bathroom Tiles
Durability: Tiles, especially porcelain tiles, are known for their longevity and resistance to wear and tear.
Water Resistance: Tiles are inherently waterproof, making them ideal for bathrooms prone to water spills and humidity.
Variety in Design: Tiles come in a range of styles, from polished tiles to rustic stone looks, allowing homeowners to create unique bathroom designs.
Easy Cleaning: Tiles resist stains and are easy to clean, maintaining their shine for years.
Resale Value: High-quality tiles can enhance your homeâs resale value due to their timeless appeal.
Cons of Bathroom Tiles
Cost: Tiles can be more expensive upfront, especially when you factor in installation costs.
Cold Underfoot: Tiles can feel cold, especially during winter, unless paired with underfloor heating.
Slippery Surface: Polished tiles can be slippery when wet, posing a safety hazard in bathrooms. Choosing matte or textured tiles can mitigate this issue.
Labor-Intensive Installation: Installing tiles requires professional expertise, increasing labor costs and time.
How to Choose Between Laminate Flooring and Tiles
When deciding between laminate flooring and tiles, consider these factors:
Budget: If cost is a concern, laminate flooring offers a more affordable solution without sacrificing style.
Bathroom Size: For smaller bathrooms, tiles may add a luxurious touch, while laminate can make the space feel cozy.
Aesthetic Preferences: If youâre after a sleek, modern look, polished tiles are a great choice. For a warm, wood-like finish, opt for laminate.
Maintenance Needs: Laminate requires careful cleaning to avoid water damage, whereas tiles are low maintenance.
