repost from @chokolateexpressions916 Third Strikers with non-violent offenses will soon be eligible for early parole consideration under #Prop57 via the Stanford Three Strikes Project: In a surprise development, late yesterday afternoon California administration officials confirmed that they would not appeal the landmark Court of Appeals victory from last month, which held that prison regulations denying early parole to nonviolent Three Strikes prisoners violated the California Constitution and Proposition 57. In light of this decision, the administration also announced that it will soon issue new, emergency regulations extending an opportunity for early parole to over 4,000 prisoners sentenced to life under the Three Strikes law for nonviolent crimes... The upshot is that thousands of Three Strikes prisoners sentenced to life for nonviolent crimes will have a chance at early parole beginning in January...This is exciting and overwhelming news. But there are still questions and work to be done to ensure the process is implemented fairly and effectively. First, we have not yet seen the new regulations and don’t know how the parole board will handle the influx of new Three Strikes cases. Pending publication of the new regulations, courts have agreed to hold all of our pending cases in abeyance, but lawyers will continue their litigation if the new rules present new problems or issues. Second, just because Three Strikers will have a chance at parole, that doesn’t mean the board will release everyone, or even most people. The question is whether each prisoner poses a risk to public safety, and the parole board’s current grant rate is not as high as we’d like: a large majority are denied. If you know or represent someone who may benefit from these developments, by far the most important message to them is to continue to participate in as much rehabilitative programming as possible and begin to develop a professional, comprehensive reentry plan. In the weeks ahead, there will be developing more information, practice guides, and sample parole packets for the Three Strikers who now have a new chance at freedom. Stay tuned for updates (at Compton, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/BpFBJ2mHATsMePBDbkUBWBQ8EW5h5_BUdGitaQ0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1hxwsiozu93ds

This morning @pastormykmac led chants of "#Freedom4Dajon" on the Alameda County Courthouse stairs, as Dajon Ford's case was heard inside the facility. Dajon was arrested and charged as an adult at the age of 17 in 2013. Last year, Proposition 57 passed, which took the power away from district attorneys to directly try juveniles as adults, and put that power back in the hands of judges. Dajon now has the opportunity to transfer his case to a juvenile court. @pastormykmac, @princekwhite and a large group of supporters gathered to have their voices heard, hoping to ensure Dajon's case be heard in a juvenile court. #Prop57. #SchoolsNotPrisons. #DreamBeyondBars. #Feedom4Dajon. #Oakland. #EveryDayBayArea. #CatchlightEveryday. Two Views on Extending Prop 57 from San Quentin
Common wisdom says that public safety requires the continued incarceration of any person who committed a violent crime, but in this case, common wisdom is wrong.

@Regrann from @bornillegal - A new government report showing huge increases in the incidences of domestic violence, rape & sexual assault over a two-year period in the United States deserves immediate attention from lawmakers & the incoming administration, Human Rights Watch said today. The statistics show a 42-percent increase in reported domestic violence & a 25-percent increase in the reported incidence of rape & sexual assault. The National Crime Victimization Survey, based on projections from a national sample survey, says that at least 248,300 individuals were raped or sexually assaulted in 2007, up from 190,600 in 2005, the last year the survey was conducted. The study surveyed 73,600 individuals in 41,500 households. Among all violent crimes, domestic violence, rape & sexual assault showed the largest increases. Except for simple assault, which increased by 3 percent, the incidence of every other crime surveyed decreased."The numbers in this survey show an alarmingly high rate of sexual violence in this country," said Sarah Tofte, researcher for the US Program at Human Rights Watch. "This should serve as a wake-up call that more must be done to address the problem in the US." but wait it doesn't stop there If a woman who conceives through rape does go on to have the child, she can open herself up to being victimized by her rapist again & again. In 31 states, paternal rapists are allowed to sue for custody & visitation rights like any other father, as a Chicago woman who was served with custody papers from her rapist brought to the public’s attention last summer after former Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) made his “legitimate rape” comments. Even in the states that don’t protect the parental rights of rapists, many rapes never lead to a conviction & certain provisions can make it difficult for a woman impregnated through sexual assault to keep her attacker out of her & her child’s life. 😕 its bad enough we cant smoke weed without going to jail but this sh*t right here is out of hand & we need make an uprise & burn Babylon...We must protect women & children✊ #cityovgods #pizzagate #sb1322 #prop57 - #regrann

Prop 57. Tips to Build Your Case For Early Release
Now that Prop 57 has passed the flood gates will swing open and inmates will pour in all seeking an early release from prison.
Stop Sign. There will be no automatic release of inmates. Inmates who seek to be released will have to request early release from the Parole Board. So here are some tips that inmates can use to help build their case while serving their base term (which is required) prior to being released early.
1. Get your GED. If the prison facility offers education classes take them all.
2. Complete Substance Abuse and Anger Management Classes -whichever are applicable to your situation.
3. Exhibit Good Conduct while in custody. (If you are requesting early release, the Parole Board is going to want to feel confident that you will be released back into society, as a mature adult; not as a menace.
These tips will help you tremendously if you are going to request early release. *And remember to save all your class certificates as these will be used as persuasive evidence in your case.
Good Luck!

Apparently these are "Non violent crimes" which is f*cking ridiculous. Rape no matter how it happens is a violent crime. Trying to explode a school is a violent crime. Domestic violence with trauma is a violent crime. Human trafficking involving sex with minors is a violent crime. ALL of these are violent crimes!!! SO why are these seen as "non violent crimes"??? Why are the people committing these crimes getting out early????
