Losing a foot race by only about a foot sucks. And no, not as in twelve inches — as in, one footstep.

Luckily for Noctis, Gladio wasn't so cruel as to subject him to daily training at the ass crack of dawn as punishment for losing. That kind of thing can't be forced. Unluckily for Noctis, Gladio isn't about to let this defeat go unpunished, either.

The others are likely to be up now that the morning sun is well into the sky. Prompto is likely waiting for the two to get back so they can begin to load things back into the Regalia. And Ignis is probably whipping something up for breakfast before they depart from the campsite.

Right...Ignis.

This feels wrong. Like a stupid game between high schoolers. Like some dumb bet — okay, this is some dumb bet. But that justification doesn't make Noctis feel any better about what's about to happen. In fact, it almost certainly makes it worse. These kinds of things shouldn't be done because of dumb bets...

But, well, Noctis is nothing if not a man of his word.

Wiping sweat from his brow, he exhales, placing a hand on Ignis's shoulder and coaxing him to turn away from the outdoor kitchen, towards him. They're close. Close enough for Noctis to keep up his end of the deal and get it over with.

But Ignis is way more to him than just some bargaining chip in a stupid game. Bet or no, he has to be sure he's okay with this. He has to make this mean something.

Saszor ( @saszor ) — another disabled artist who has AMAZING disabled oc’s and is one of the only artists i’ve seen that accurately portrays facial differences!

Caleb ( @littlestpersimmon / @/sethpuertoluna on Twitter) — An amazing autistic indigenous south-east asian artist! His work is always so gorgeous to look at and the composition work is phenomenal.

Prompto & Co ( @katetorias ) — an autistic system! Pri has some great artwork with a variety of different styles! Prin has drawn disabled people and mobility aids, and seeing people be open about their disorders always makes me happy to see!

PURIPRADO ( @/puripradoo on twitter ) — a Gyaru Gal who draws amazing gals, as well as wheelchair gals! Genuinely makes me so happy to see!

Dave ( @/benthicmidas on twitter ) — an autistic disabled artist. He draws great mobility aids and combines disability with fandom really well!

Ei ( @heartboiled-egg ) — I really absolutely love the way this artist designs characters and outfits, it’s always so cohesive and inspired!

Love ( @hereloveblooms ) — This artist is GREAT! We’ve traded art a couple times and their work blows me away each time! I love their designs as well as their clean linework!

ive been rereading your ffxv fic "im trying hard to take it back" for literally four years now. please end my suffering and tell me how gladio feels. please. PLEASE. (but only if u want ofc)

(fic) Short answer: Gladio feels insane guilt and spends a lot of his life trying to make this up to Prompto. In the process, they deepen their connection as friends and do begin a relationship probably around the one-year mark of endless darkness. <3

Longer answer: (implications of abuse/violence tw but no worse than in the fic itself; just what others assume to be true even if it's not in the context of this specific fic)

Gladio is a secret romantic at heart who has always envisioned meeting his soulmate, but he's also duty-bound and duty comes first. So even though he reads romance books (amongst other types of books too) and indulges in his head a bit as many people do, he's often put his duty to the crown first and foremost in his mind. He also didn't imagine his soulmate was anyone on this trip and thought perhaps the person he may have been fated to meet died in the assault of Insomnia. Even if they were a refugee, they can't be a priority to him at this moment. His priority has to be Noctis.

Prompto has obviously grown on him over the course of their road trip, but there are aspects of them that don't 100% mesh (as is true with every realistic relationship). That said, Gladio never in a hundred years would want this moment of (understandable but out of line) frustration and anger in the wake of Luna and Altissa to be a permanent mark on Prompto's face. He's genuinely horrified and disgusted with himself for a long time after this and spends most of his life trying to make it up. He feels like a dirtbag about it.

That said, Prompto runs away from him in this moment and they need time to calm down, just as the fic shows. Noctis goes after Prompto, just like in canon. Prompto falls off the train and has his Despair Arc just like in the DLC, now with the added despair of "well, in addition to being a clone, my soulmate hates me. And in addition to the mark of inhumanity on my wrist (barcode), I have a giant hand print of him literally Shoving Me Away on my face. Forever."

Aranea: Well, do you want to die about it. Or do you want to live.

Prompto, eventually like in canon: Live, I guess. But it will be excruciating.

Aranea: That's what living is. We do it anyway. Your friends love you. Get off the floor.

He fights his way through his issues and gets rescued like in canon. Gladio probably tries to talk to him when they all catch up again, trying to apologize, and Prompto tells him to hold off on that for later.

Then, of course, Noctis is eaten by the crystal and "later" becomes much, much later as they evacuate and try to survive in eternal darkness. (Though they also can't Not think about it because it's a giant hand print. On Prompto's face. And every person they meet has Something To Say about it, for better or worse, whether they knew Prompto before or not. Prompto cannot escape it, and when Gladio is not doing Crown Duties he feels he must do in Noct's absence, he's with Prompto, so he also Cannot Escape It either. Even when the person speaking is unaware that Gladio left that mark. It's almost worse when they don't know, but when they see it's Gladio, who is such a big guy who seemingly hit Prompto and left that permanent mark there, some of them get nasty to him and some back off out of fear. Both are horrible. The guilt is eating him alive.)

Eventually, enough time passes as the dust settles that they do Talk About It. Gladio apologizes sincerely, for the 500th time. Prompto's like, "Well. It's not like you could have known that this would be The One Time it happened." And then cracks a joke about their soulmate mark being a Prompto's hand print on Gladio's ass from a butt slap in another life, which does help the tension somewhat. (The more Gladio tries to apologize, the more Prompto grows sick of hearing it, so they just have to move on and keep going, as he's learned to do.)

They grow closer over time, especially because there's not a lot of people who have survived to this point and even less later on. They do get together romantically, both because they do like the idea of soulmates (for different reasons) and also because they're living out of each others pockets for years, so there's an affection and dependency that develops there. Also, teenage Prompto always thought Gladio was really handsome and teen Gladio thought Prompto was cute and sincere for a pipsqueak.

When they are out together on dates in normal settings surrounded by strangers after the light returns, Gladio will receive dirty looks for the rest of his life from strangers who see the hand print on Prompto's face and immediately (correctly) assumes it was out of anger rather than a funny accident or something. (Edit: Some people will assume there is a funny story attached. Gladio will not know what to say to this. Prompto will play along.) He will learn to live with this. Prompto is really grateful Gladio is with him despite everything.

Meal Etiquette

A year has passed since Pluvira had come into Primam and Prompto's lives. Within that year, Primam had a rather lenient King of Insomnia, and rather caring brother who allowed her to spend time getting to be a new mother. Now, it seems that leniency has lifted and she has since been called back to her seat on the Royal Lucian Council, leaving Prompto staying at home and being the sole parent having to look after their firstborn.

Word Count: 782 Notes: I just wanted to write Prompto being a dad. Not really canon to what I have released of the rest of my XV: Reimagined. But fun...for me.

Spoon in hand, Prompto was making faces opening his mouth and closing it. He was trying to get the fussy baby in the highchair to get her spoonful of mashed mango and banana baby food in her mouth. Though, as it stood, this particular adversary was one of the most troublesome he had ever faced. At least when it came to getting her to eat her meals.

“C'mon, Vira…” Prompto said, sighing with a sheepish smile on his face. “Mommy had Uncle Iggy make this special for you! Daddy and Mommy have had Uncle Iggy's food, and it's so yummy! You'll love it! You just gotta…open…your mouuuuu-u-uth, ahhhh--”

Prompto gently bumped the spoon against Pluvira's pouty lips, her expression speaking volumes of her lack of amusement and defiance both. Her refusal to eat made Prompto bite back a groan as he attempted to think back on how Primam always made it look so easy.

‘Sometimes, you just need to sweeten the deal,’ Prompto recalled Primam saying. But what did she do most of the time?

Scrunching his face in thought, Prompto recalled that, most of the time, Primam saved feeding Pluvira for when they were ready for meals. But…Pluvira was at an age where she was using her limited vocabulary and was demanding ‘nummies’.

“Noct, I'm going to kill you…” Prompto muttered under his breath. It was only recently that Primam was called away back to her role on the Lucian Royal Council now that Tandem had no longer wanted to be her stand-in and handle her responsibilities. Which meant that Prompto was now on his own with Pluvira…and she was only ever fussy when Primam was gone.

Taking in a breath, Prompto slowly exhaled and dumped the spoonful of baby food back into the jar before getting up. He then had an idea and walked over to the fridge, looking around until he found the clementines. Pulling them out, he made sure to peel a couple of them before bringing them back in a small bowl.

This had to work.

“Alrighty, Vira… Daddy's got your favorite. Look! Clementines!” Prompto plucked a clementine slice from the bowl and then popped it into his mouth. He gave a small ‘mm~’ as he ate it.

Pluvira watched Prompto intently, soon reaching out for the bowl with little grunts. She was determined to get her delicious little treats.

‘Hook, line, and sinker…’ Prompto thought with a grin on his face.

Sitting back down, Prompto broke one clementine slice in half and then took up the baby food jar once more. He got a smaller spoonful than before and then placed the small clementine slice at the end of the spoon. Pluvira was watching, kicking in her seat eagerly.

“Ah!” Pluvira opened her mouth nice and wide, and Prompto finally breathed a sigh of relief as he brought the spoon to her mouth and made sure she was not going to close it before he plucked the slice back and saw her close her mouth around the spoon.

“See? Not so bad,” Prompto said, keeping the clementine piece in his other hand. He knew that it was too small to feed her safely, and needed him to watch her pull at and eat it instead of getting all of it in there.

Pluvira's expression was one of shock as she looked up at Prompto as if she had just learned something new. To be fair, she really did. She then opened her mouth again, another eager ‘ah!’ being pushed out to indicate she was ready for another spoonful.

Victory! That was now just one less thing Primam had to worry about while she was away!

Taking the spoon, Prompto got it filled with Pluvira’s mash and brought it back. He watched her eat consistently from there on until she had her fill.

“Papa’s got it all figured out!” Prompto cheered to himself. Watching Pluvira bounce excitedly in her chair had been rewarding enough. Getting everything cleaned up, Prompto got Pluvira removed from the highchair, making sure not to jostle her too much after eating. “Time to get you in the bath, and then how about you and Daddy sit down and watch some movies after, huh? Wait for Mommy to come home?”

“Ma…ma…ma…” Pluvira babbled, sticking a hand on Prompto’s face.

“Yeah? Excited for Mommy to come back home?” Prompto asked, scrunching his face and then bringing his lips down on Pluvira’s hand a couple times, pretending to bite her. He started to walk toward the staircase afterward to bring Pluvira to the bath. “Daddy’s also excited for Mommy to come back home. We can show her what a good girl you’ve been to Daddy today.”

I was interested at the OG post mentioning a deleted line. I usually try to clear out draft docs so they don't take up space and figured I wouldn't have anything along those lines, but it turns out I have a few stragglers. I remember talking abt this specific thing over on twit ages ago too -

A little something that never made the cut in Chapter 3 of All The Things I Lost On You - the Noct's shitty ex flashback fic for Cagefighter AU. So, this is post Miles Makes a Scene and Tries to Get Physical with Ignis at Noct's Party. In one version of the chapter, Miles was still waiting for Noctis at the apartment when Gladio dropped him off. However, Miles completely ignored Noctis' existence rather than starting an argument. So, instead, I had Noctis decide to take a hot bath to try and relax. He caught up on his texts in the meantime; I wrote texts from Prompto, Luna & Gladio, but these probably have to be my favorite texts I wrote out;

This might seem basic af but I really really love these bc, for anyone that doesn't know, I am very much a sucker for Protective Uncle Cor dynamics - and I got to utilize that a little bit in the previous chapter of this 4 chaptered project. That, and the dynamic of Noct's family in this particular AU. Neither Regis or Cor knew until this moment that Noct's relationship wasn't the healthiest - Noct didn't want them to ever have an inkling about it, and in this moment he's very much embarrassed by the fact that they know now, and they're probably itching for the next chance they get to try and talk to him about it.

And when Noct reads these texts, all he wants is to apologize for Miles making a scene. To reassure them that everything is okay (even tho its not) and they don't need to waste their time and energy worrying about him. But at the same time, he just wants to disappear, never show his face to anyone again, and forget it happened.

I'd also like to point out -

What Cor Says: text your dad you're safe so he doesn't worry What Cor Means: text your dad so he doesn't worry ok? because then he'll tell me you're home safe and I won't worry ok? Ok thank u.

This is the family dynamic Noct deserves damnit!! It is meant to be present in Cagefighter AU the further it develops! ;u;

hi just a small ick that a lot of ppl have abt ur art…pls stop drawing prompto as urself. it’s so hard to enjoy the art when all we see is u all the time it’s annoying actually. “pls no one say “us!” bcs it’s just me and my bf1!1!1!!!” like stop ur being annoying and ur gatekeeping…like it would b nice if u could use ur brain n come up with ur own character to do that for. a lot of ppl would b here 4 that.
