I'm a full ass grown adult and I just rewatched the fifth season episode where Harry bangs an alien without going through protocol and turns blue.

So check it. Brother has been on the bridge for over five years and you could probably do a supercut of all the times he's saved his team members lives and frees the ship from the clutches of some sentient space blob and whenever he and Janeway had a scene I'm screaming at my laptop "HE DECIDED TO SHAKE THINGS UP CAUSE YOU HAVEN'T GIVEN HIM A PROMOTION EVEN AFTER HE TOOK ALIEN TENDRILS UP THE NOSE FOR YOU!!!"

Like, I know it's just shitty writing so I'm not a Janeway hater but also the whole episode is about Janeway keeping him a infantile child-man.

The whole Rutherford promotion arc on Lower Decks makes the whole thing even more a hilarious tragedy.

on the subject of voyager being absurd I need to talk about how insane of character Harry is like he's actually not just overacheiver career boy, he's overacheiver in Life because he felt like his parents loved him too much for what he was so he had to earn their love. he was literally in juliard youth symphony right. music was a very real viable career for him. more than that like yes he was also an absurdly skilled engineer. in a timeline where he never left earth he gets promoted to lieutenant in like 6 months, wins several awards, and designs a revolutionary engine. and still in the Canon Real World he graduated summa cum laude of his Starfleet class. Literally top of his class. he also has an award in piloting proficiency. and also ends up being a senior office on his first day.

but more than any of that, the most absurd thing to me is he was a star athlete. I think about this daily like he was captain of the Velocity team and also a fucking. three times champion in the stupid space racketball game. like that's so insane to me. just star athlete on the starship. it's like— okay what's an athlete gay people are likely to know. okay before Caitlin Clark was in the wnba she was really big in college basketball right. so it's like if you worked at NASA and one day Caitlin Clark just strolled into the office, and then due to a series of increasingly unfortunate events you ended up on Mars and Caitlin Clark was also there. on Mars. the whole time with you. am i getting this across does anyone else feel how insane this is.

My one criticism of the Lower Decks episode set on Voyager, is that if you're going to promote your unpromotable ensigns on a Voyager themed episode, not having Harry Kim there seems a huge missed opportunity

She also builds models of the alien ships encountered throughout Voyagers' journey... a slow hobby that's excellent at passing time.

Harry Kim gets promoted in season 2 and in season 4.

Seven of Nine holds the rank of Crewman in season 4 and wears a teal uniform. She might get a provisional field commission as an officer later on. She has more visible implants, both borg and starfleet designs. Instead of heels, she has Advanced Knee Replacements.

Maybe Slamtha is a Maquis who ends up on Voyager? That's a whole different story...

I know it was a joke, but I love the idea that Harry is just a little bitter that he's still an Ensign after all of this.

oh hey man. yeah im okay, yeah im just thinking about how harry kim is canonically referred to as voyager's guardian angel. and how harry is responsible for saving the ship countless times. and how he kills himself and blows alternate versions of himself up and is sent through rifts in space, all to get back to voyager. and how he is maybe the most dedicated Starfleet office on that ship, and how, at times he's more committed to Starfleet than the Janeway and doesn't waiver in principle. And how when Janeway was feeling lonely and isolated, it was Harry who brought her in with the rest of the crew. And it was Harry who bonded with B'elanna and made her feel like she had a friend among Starfleet. And it was Harry who refused to let Tom be ostracized by everyone on the crew. And it was Harry who became Seven's first friend on the ship. how he consistently stays a force of optimism and beacon of hope even when everyone else has given up. it's always harry trying to help and stay positive and be there for everyone around him. Just. Yeah. Guardian angel.
