This Is Her House : Celebrating Saraya

Hello Everyone! Yes , you did read the title of this article right! I wanted to write about a wrestler who has made history and has a movie about her life. The wrestler I’m talking about is Saraya, formerly known as Paige. Today is her birthday and I wanted to celebrate her!

Saraya Jade Bevis was born on August 17,1992 in Norwich , England . Her mother and her father are both professional wrestlers, which means she is a second generation wrestler. Her mother is known as Sweet Saraya and her father is known as Ricky Knight. Her brother, Zak Zodiac , is also a professional wrestler as well as her half-brother , Roy Knight. Saraya’s nephew , Ricky Knight Jr., has also joined the family business by becoming a professional wrestler.

Bevis entered the professional wrestling business at the age of 13 when she made her debut in World Association of Wrestling ( WAW ) . This was her family ’s wrestling promotion, thus , she debuted under the name of Britani Knight. She toured the European Independent Wrestling scene and won several championships. Nevertheless in 2011, she would soon get her big break when Vince McMahon signed her to WWE after her second tryout for the company . She was sent to their developmental brand , Florida Championship Wrestling ( FCW ) , and soon made her debut there under her real name at one of their house shows before changing her name to Paige and debuting on their TV program in 2012. She chose this name as a tribute to one of the characters on the TV show , ‘ Charmed ’. Thus, FCW was rebranded into what is now known as NXT. The Anti-Diva would make her NXT debut the same year.

On the May 29, 2013 episode of NXT, Stephanie McMahon , the daughter of Vince McMahon and Co-Chief Executive Officer of WWE at the time , would make an appearance on NXT. She announced that there would be a tournament to crown the inaugural NXT Women’s Champion. Paige soon found herself entering the tournament. She would go on to defeat wrestlers such as Alicia Fox to go to the finals. Therefore , she would make history in WWE.

In the finals of the tournament, Paige would face Emma ( Tenille Dashwood ). She would go on to defeat Emma and become the youngest NXT Women’s Champion, at 20 years old . She would successfully retain her championship against opponents such as Natalya , Summer Rae , Emma , and Sasha Banks ( aka Mercedes Monè ) . Nevertheless, she would have to vacate the championship in April of 2014 after making history once again.

On the April 7 , 2014 episode of Monday Night RAW , in which this episode was the show after Wrestlemania XXX ( 30 ). The current WWE Divas Champion , AJ Lee, was standing in the ring cutting a promo. During Lee’s promo , Paige’s music would hit and she would interrupt the champion . She congratulated Lee on retaining her championship before being challenged to a match for the championship after AJ slapped her . Nevertheless, the match started and Lee would soon find herself in Paige’s signature move , The Paige Turner , to quickly end the match. Therefore , Paige won the match and made history again. She became the youngest Divas Champion at the age of 21. She also made history by becoming the only woman in the WWE to be NXT Women’s Champion and the WWE Divas Champion by having both championships at the same time . She would also be a key figure in the Women’s Evolution in the company as well as a cast member on the reality show , ‘ Total Divas ’. In 2018 after having to retire due to a neck injury , she would become the general manager of Smackdown. It was rumored that she was assigned the job to help promote the movie about her life , ‘ Fighting With My Family ’ , which starred Florence Pugh as Paige . In 2019 , she would become the manager of the Kabuki Warriors , Asuka and Kairi Sane .

Paige would leave WWE in June of 2022. In September of the same year, she would make an appearance for Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling ( AEW ) , at their Grand Slam show . Khan would announce her signing to the company after she did this . She would be wrestling under her real name , Saraya. Her first feud in AEW would be with Dr.Britt Baker , DMD. On the November 9,2022 episode of Dynamite, she would announce that she was fully cleared to return to in ring action . Saraya’s first match in five years would be at the Full Gear Pay-Per-View against Britt Baker where she would win. She would also form a Heel stable called , ‘ The Outcasts ’ , along with former WWE talent, Ruby Soho , and Toni Storm. They would attack the original AEW Women’s talent. Thus , in 2023, Saraya would challenge for the AEW Women’s Championship in a fatal four way match against Britt Baker , Toni Storm , and champion Hikaru Shida. The match would take place at the All In Pay-Per-View in London, England .

‘ All In ’ would take place at the legendary Wembley Stadium. Saraya would have her family escort her to the ring before the match to Queen’s ‘ We Will Rock You ’. She would find herself successful by defeating Baker , Shida, and Storm by becoming the new AEW Women’s World Champion in front of her home crowd. She would celebrate with her family after the match. The AEW Women’s World Championship would be her first championship in almost nine years. Her title reign would last over a month before being defeated by Hikaru Shida on ‘ AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday ’ , which took place on October 10, 2023.

Saraya would soon reform The Outcasts with Ruby Soho. They would replace Toni Storm with Harley Cameron. Saraya and Cameron would soon turn on Soho after it was revealed that Saraya put Cameron up to kissing Soho’s boyfriend, Angelo Parker , to try and break them up. This would lead to Soho and Saraya having a feud . Therefore , their feud would quickly after Soho announced her pregnancy. Saraya and Cameron are still tag team partners.

Saraya is also an advocate for addiction and mental health.

My Final Thoughts:

It’s amazing how Saraya accomplished all of this in her career. I also love how she was able to face all of the obstacles in her life and how she overcame them. Fighting With My Family is also a great movie . Happy birthday, Saraya!

Curious, but why do you think CV wasn’t as popular among the fan base as animated/prime? I haven’t been in the fandom long enough, but have a general understanding that there’s G1 elitism but CV wasn’t terrible. Also, this could be skewed since I don’t know peoples responses to animated or tfp at the time (or RiD2015).

There are a couple things to consider here.

One: target demographic. Cyberverse is generally understood to be skewed a little younger than most mainline TF cartoons. Generally, mainline TF cartoons are assumed to be aimed at around the 6-14 demographic, I'd say. (With the Rescue Bots stuff filling the pre-school niche and the comics being for adults.) But there's a very big difference between the average 6 year old's taste and a 14 year old's taste. Some shows, like TFP, lean more towards the older tween/teen demo; some, like Cyberverse, more towards the under-10s. A lot of adults who like kids' cartoons prefer the stuff aimed at slightly older audiences. So the younger a cartoon is pitched, the less it's likely to engage lots of the "adult nerd" secondary demographic. (And of course, some dumbasses are straight up like WAHHH IT'S KIDDY AND THAT'S BAD, HATE because they do not want to admit they are in a franchise that is overwhelmingly made up of cartoons made for children, like losers.)

Two: format. Cyberverse is not a 'full' show like most TF cartoons. Each episode is ~10 minutes long, not ~22, and it's nowhere near as heavily serialised as a some recent takes on that format (Steven Universe is probably the preeminent example). This means a lot of the episodes earlier on especially are standalone and have just a single one-and-done A-plot going on. This does change in later series, especially series three, but for a while there the tone is much more 'goofy and fun shorts' than 'overarching narrative', which tends not to gain the same kind of teen or adult fandom engagement. It tends not to lead to a lot of speculation, or fanfic, stuff like that which builds momentum and engagement.

Three: budget. To put it bluntly, Cyberverse was a budget cartoon compared to stuff like TFP. (My personal assumption is that this was likely deliberate, what with TFP having infamously become one of the most absurd money leaks of a cartoon I have ever heard of.) It was more or less designed to be a web-first streaming series rather than like, the next big flagship cartoon on TV. (It aired on CN's app first and many countries only had it on various random apps; it now lives on Youtube mostly.) They had very little money, and while the team made that money go really far on the show itself, it shows in some regards. First up, it got next to no promo. Like. This show had almost no advertising. It was not treated as 'the next big Transformers franchise' by Hasbro tbh: it's often referred to as being something of a 'stopgap' series. Also, the toyline is incredibly sparse and cheaply done, with weird gaps and terrible distribution and a huge amount of under-engineered toys. Given that the shows exist to sell the toys, and toys drive interest in the shows... yeah. Anyway, the fact it wasn't treated like the Next Big Transformers Thing meant a lot of people straight up skipped it.

Four: the first series was easily the weakest. Like, I love Cyberverse, but s1 is eminently skippable. The low budget there hit them hard I think. Very few characters ever show up, all the settings are the blandest, flattest wastelands they can manage a lot of the time. The whole thing is basically designed from the ground up so they can justify only having to have two actual regular main characters! Series one did not grab most of us who did start watching when it began airing. When it got a lot better in series two and three, a lot of the audience had unfortunately already dismissed it.

All the above combined to mean that Cyberverse is a little bit of a black sheep of the continuities, with Earthspark being seen as the 'proper' return of TF by a lot of folks. Which! Is a real shame! Because Cyberverse fucking RULED. Okay. The uptick in how good it was once series two ditched the 'only two characters' thing and brought on a full cast of Bots and Cons was ridiculous. It's funny and goofy and incessantly charming and it uses its format to its advantage to tell fun little stories you just wouldn't get in a show like Prime. The continuity picks up while still allowing episodic stories, the writers bring in fun ideas from other continuities, Starscream starts a cult and eats people's souls, it's wonderful. They got really creative, and the fact they didn't necessarily have that overwhelming need to appeal to a nostalgic audience 24/7 meant they could get a bit weird and silly with it. Kids' cartoons that are for kids and strive to be entertaining in that way are good, actually!

Series three notably has a whole mini-arc that follows characters and their development episode to episode and reintroduces and reinvents the Quintessons in a big way, and it's one of my fave TF cartoon arcs ever. A lot of folks find themselves surprised by how much they wind up enjoying Cyberverse once they give it a shot. But there was that really rocky start combined with it being a very atypical format for the series that just limited how many people did give it a shot.

Cyberverse has its contingent of dudebros who hate it for being a kids' show, but mostly? It's just kind of overlooked.

Who the hell is CM Punk and why is he “All Elite”?

If you’re reading this post, you’re most likely somebody who’s heard the latest buzz around the wrestling world: CM Punk is back! But who exactly is CM Punk? You’ve probably heard the name before, either in the context of pro wrestling or as part of his time in UFC, and have always wondered what the big deal is about the guy. You’ve also probably seen or heard about All Elite Wrestling, up-and-coming wrestling promotion airing live Wednesday and Friday nights on TNT. But what exactly is AEW as well? That’s where this post comes in. In this long-ass post on Tumblr, you’ll be given a crash course on the history of one of pro wrestling’s most iconic superstars as well as the abridged history of AEW, the premier wrestling promotion in North America, allowing you to (hopefully) understand the significance of Punk’s return to the squared circle as well as give yourself significant knowledge of AEW enough that you can begin to enjoy the weekly shows they put out!

Okay, so who the heck is this CM Punk guy anyway?

To put it simply, CM Punk is one of the most significant pro wrestlers of the 21st century as well as the history of the industry itself. While he’s not on the level of mainstream recognition as Hulk Hogan or Stone Cold Steve Austin, Punk’s contributions to pro wrestling are arguably as important to the industry. To understand Punk’s significance, you need to have a little history lesson about the industry in the early-to-mid 2000′s.

When you think of professional wrestling, you probably think of one name above all: WWE, World Wrestling Entertainment. WWE was, and still is, the most mainstream wrestling promotion ever. People associate all wrestling with WWE, no matter what. But what about what’s below WWE in terms of recognition? The Minor League Baseball to its MLB? To that, we have to look at the independent scene.

The independent scene is, simply put, the underground punk rock of pro wrestling. It’s where the stars make the names for themselves to rise to the success. Indie wrestling is important because it’s where Punk began. CM (the initials jokingly standing for whatever is on his mind at the moment, ranging from “Cookie Monster” to “Charles Montgomery” or “Chicago Made”) Punk began his career in the independent scene around the turn of the millennium. He rose to significant prominence in the promotion Ring of Honor, one of the most premiere indie leagues in the United States. This prominence was brought on by Punk’s oozing charisma and wrestling talent, making him one of the best known “underground wrestlers” at the time. Then, in 2005, Punk signed a contract with the major league: he was WWE bound.

To regale you with Punk’s career in WWE would require an entirely separate post, so I’ll spare you the specifics and get to the good stuff: Punk was over in WWE. “Over” of course meaning the fans loved him. And why shouldn’t they? Big time wrestling fans knew Punk from his days in ROH and to see him rise to be on national television broadcasts and pay-per-view was rewarding. To those who were introduced to him, he was a fantastic talent and provided immense entertainment because of his talent in the ring and outside it.

Later on in his career at WWE, Punk provided one of the most scathing promos of all time, criticizing the company for its horrific decision-making and idiotic management. The promo was a “worked shoot”, wrestling lingo for a promo that seems like it’s breaking character but is all planned out (Punk was allowed to say anything he wanted, no matter if it was in character or not) but it was still extremely satisfying for the fans who agreed wholeheartedly with Punk about the state of WWE at the time. This promo (now known as the “pipebomb promo”) is just one of the many reasons why CM Punk has remained an immense fan favorite. The idea of a wrestler taking the mic, airing their grievances, and showcasing how a major corporation treated their employees with disdain and damnation is utterly unlike anything seen since Stone Cold Steve Austin back in the late 90′s. Punk, to many people, was one of the first of many “indie stars” that WWE had “poached” from the independent scene, turning them into corporate icons, stripping away their unique qualities as a person and transforming them into recognizable brands to sell merchandise with. To see Punk spit back at the WWE made a lot of people realize that enough was enough for them. Punk was the voice of the voiceless, a wrestler echoing throughout the halls that he wasn’t just a brand to slap onto a cheap mass-produced product, that he was a wrestler (in the mid-2000s at WWE, the term “wrestler” was seen as an irrelevant term, the terms “sports entertainer” and “superstar” preferred by management) in this business to prove himself as the Best in the World. And like clockwork, on July 15th, 2014, Punk was removed from WWE’s active roster after he had effectively walked out of the company weeks prior.

One of the most significant events post-WWE with Punk was his appearance on close friend Colt Cabana’s Art of Wrestling podcast. Colt’s podcast was known for featuring “shoot interviews”, basically interviews with wrestlers out of character detailing backstage information and telling stories. Punk’s episode of the podcast is significant as it eventually led to a total legal dispute with one of WWE’s doctors whose misdiagnosis of a staph infection was one of the reasons for Punk’s departure from WWE. Along with that, Punk’s general dissatisfaction with the “WWE Machine” as it’s been coined was another reason, with him even mentioning at times post-retirement that WWE was responsible for him never wanting to wrestle again. And so it seemed, as Punk later on signed with UFC in an attempt to get a MMA career off the ground, that the legacy of CM Punk ended with his tenure at WWE.

Until, that is, the wrestling world got a little...elite...

Okay, so I get who CM Punk is now, but what’s this All Elite Wrestling business?

AEW, All Elite Wrestling and the sole reason you’re reading this post right now, is the second biggest wrestling promotion in North America and quite possibly the world. Its inception begins with a group of wrestlers signed to the aforementioned Ring of Honor and a little bet made with wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer on Twitter.

Meltzer had proclaimed on Twitter that ROH did not have the capability to sell 10,000 tickets to an arena-run wrestling event. ROH-signed wrestlers Cody Rhodes (son of Dusty Rhodes and brother of Dustin Rhodes f.k.a. “Goldust”) and tag team brothers Matt and Nick Jackson (known as “The Young Bucks”) took Meltzer up on the bet and immediately scouted an arena for such an event. Partnering with Ring of Honor along with other wrestling promotions around the world such as Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, Impact Wrestling, and New Japan Pro Wrestling, the trio promoted the event as All In and managed to sell out the arena in less than 30 minutes, even exceeding the goal by an extra thousand or so, becoming the largest attended wrestling event not held by industry leader WWE since 1993.

Naturally, the success of such an event caught the attention of many leaders in many industries. The idea that an independent wrestling event could create such a huge success in a time where WWE was kingpin of the industry was unprecedented. It was clear that the wrestling world was ready for a change and the numbers didn’t lie.

On the 1st of January 2019, All Elite Wrestling was announced with the running of All In’s sequel event Double or Nothing which would also be the inaugural pay-per-view event for AEW itself. Backing the company financially was Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan along with his son and co-owner of the Jaguars Tony Khan, who would lead the company as president, CEO and head of creative. The announcement of the company was peppered with signings of some of independent wrestling’s hottest stars such as “Hangman” Adam Page, Joey Janela, Britt Baker, and Kenny Omega, often cited as the greatest wrestler in the world with multiple 5 star+ matches under his belt. Also announced were some of the most interesting inclusions: former WWE stars Chris Jericho and PAC (f.k.a. Neville) had joined as well. At the premiere event of Double Or Nothing, the most shocking addition to the roster made his debut as well: Jon Moxley, formerly known in WWE as Dean Ambrose, one of the highest-profile stars in recent history had jumped ship from top of the card in WWE to the newest promotion. Ripples in the wrestling world had turned into immense shock waves.

Alright, I kinda know the history now but why is AEW so important?

AEW’s significance today cannot be understated. Before its inception, the world of professional wrestling consisted of two pillars: WWE and the independent scene, and the two could not be less equal. WWE was seen by many as the top of the line, the area where a wrestler could be seen by the most eyes and where they could be paid top dollar moreso than any indie promotion. But it was also seen, as detailed earlier by CM Punk, as a place of dull, corporatized profiteering. WWE does not treat its wrestlers as characters in engaging, eventful stories. To the WWE, the wrestlers are no more than brands, recognizable faces and repetitive phrases that they can slap onto t-shirts and other merchandise to sell for a quick buck. WWE as a company does not care about the world of professional wrestling, even recently going so far as to call themselves not a “wrestling company” but an “entertainment” company. Wrestlers in WWE are not given the opportunity to come up with material they think will best suit the story of the match and appease the fans, they are given pre-written scripts of dialogue to act out as if they were in a movie and storylines meant to tell the story the writers want to tell rather than what the fans want to see.

For many wrestlers, the art of wrestling is a finely tuned craft. WWE’s corporate micromanagement of the whole process is utterly disrespectful and soul-crushing. At AEW, the story is different.

AEW’s creative team allows its wrestlers to do whatever they think the fans will like. While not necessarily allowing the wrestlers full creative control (Tony Khan, after all, has the final say on things), AEW at least allows the wrestlers flexibility to try new things without being railroaded by storylines. This results in characters like Orange Cassidy (see above) a wrestler whose entire gimmick is that he just doesn’t care. In his matches, he’ll lazily loaf about the ring, putting in the bare minimum effort at attacking his opponents except when the opponents REALLY strike back at which Cassidy explodes into an array of athletic fury while simultaneously never losing his cool. And it works! The gimmick worked insanely well on the independent scene, away from the strict guidelines of a major corporation who probably would not understand it, and fans adored Cassidy’s laidback, lazy attitude. And in AEW, Cassidy’s gimmick transfers flawlessly due to the company’s trust in Cassidy to make it work. And so, AEW remains a place where wrestlers can succeed not at the whims of an out-of-touch old man playing with his action figures in a way that satisfies only himself, but at the whims of creative people who believe in the equally creative minds out in the squared circle who themselves believe in the hearts of the audience, understanding full well what it is they want to see when they come to or tune into a wrestling program.

There are a multitude of other reasons AEW is probably the best wrestling promotion on the planet (ease of access, LGBT diversity among the roster) but the creative freedom it allows its wrestlers remains one of the greatest.

Okay, now I kinda get the appeal. So where does CM Punk tie into this?

As with any new promotion heavily allowing for greater creative opportunity for its wrestlers, fans are gonna want to see their big favorites join the roster. Names like Daniel Bryan, Aleister Black, Adam Cole etc. known from their time on both the independent scene and at WWE have been tossed around a lot during discussions in the past as far as who should jump ship to the promotion that will best suit them. But one person has always been the biggest “what-if” when it comes to joining AEW: CM Punk. As laid out earlier, CM Punk’s dissatisfaction with WWE was wholly responsible for his greater retirement from the pro wrestling scene. And when there’s only one really significant promotion on the market, why bother? Punk has been vocal in the past on Twitter, in interviews and many other places that his love for the business of pro wrestling was soured and that something truly significant would be required for him to return. It seemed natural to fans that, should AEW prove to be a significant competitor to WWE that, somehow, some way, it could lead to the in-ring return of one of the best to ever step foot in it. And when AEW announced it would be running the second episode of its brand-new show Rampage at the United Center in Chicago, Punk’s hometown, the rumors began to fly.

Punk himself is known for joking about and debunking rumors, hearsay and other lies about his potential signing with any wrestling-related outlets. So when the rumors began to fly that Punk was signing with AEW...the man himself stayed uncharacteristically quiet. And the wrestling world began to gasp...was it true, then? Teasers were thrown about here and there on AEW programming, small things that could go either way but to hardcore fans seemed to understand were plain as day. Punk himself even got in on the action, posting cryptic videos on his Instagram that fans eventually linked to the United Center and a return for the Best in the World. It’s been known as wrestling’s “worst-kept secret” and today, it was revealed in all its glory.

CM Punk, one of the original independent wrestling superstars, one of the few men responsible for changing the culture of professional wrestling in the 21st century, had finally returned home.

Okay, that was pretty explanatory. So now, where the heck can I watch all this?

Excellent question! AEW currently has three methods of airing content:

- Through their network TV shows aired on TNT

- Through their YouTube channel

- Through pay-per-view events

AEW Dynamite is the company’s flagship show airing Wednesdays at 8:00 EST/7:00 CST on TNT. All the company’s major storylines are told on Dynamite and the show usually runs for ~2 hours. There are over 90+ episodes of Dynamite and its not really required that you see every single one though there are many episodes that have aired in the past that feature matches, promos, and other segments worth checking out.

AEW Rampage is the company’s second show and currently only has two episodes aired. It also airs on TNT, Fridays at 10:00 EST/9:00 CST. Rampage has been given the description of being a little more “action-packed” than Dynamite, with shows only lasting for a single hour and featuring little promo time instead focusing primarily on matches themselves.

The company’s biggest stories tend to culminate in one of its four annual pay-per-view events. AEW pay-per-views are available via WarnerMedia's B/R Live service in the United States and Canada, and on FITE TV internationally. Additionally, AEW PPVs are also available via traditional PPV outlets in the United States and Canada and are carried by all major satellite providers. AEW PPVs generally cost around $50-60 and run for about four hours or so.

In addition to the two TNT shows and pay-per-views, AEW also runs two weekly shows on its YouTube channel, AEW: Dark and AEW: Dark Elevation. Both shows are generally referred to as AEW’s “developmental” shows, created mostly for unsigned or up-and-coming talent to showcase themselves in a taped format that forgoes the traditional network TV deals for easier access online. Dark and Dark Elevation’s differences are negligible but both tend not to crossover too much with the main shows, although some stories definitely do. Both shows run for ~an hour and a half on Monday nights at 7:00 EST/6:00 CST (Dark Elevation) and Tuesdays at 7 EST/6 CST (Dark).

AEW talent also provide a few extra sources of entertainment through their own YouTube outlets as well. The Elite, a popular stable in AEW consisting of current champion Kenny Omega and current tag team champions the Young Bucks, feature themselves in their own weekly travel vlog/comedy sketch series Being the Elite while other individual wrestlers like Sammy Guevara, Allie “The Bunny”, and Ethan Page provide more individualized backstage looks at the company through their own vlogs. These aren’t necessary to enjoy regular AEW programming but they definitely add to the atmosphere and you can tell through each how much the locker room loves and respects each other.

Whenever you sign up for a new credit card, you’re always asked if you want to add a supplementary card or an authorized user credit card. Saying yes can be a great way for families to manage their finances, but are there any risks involved to be aware of? How do supplementary credit cards work?

Supplementary cards are pretty straightforward. The primary cardholder can add an authorized user to their account. That user could be a family member, caregiver, or even a friend. Although each additional card will have a unique credit card number, the account is managed by the primary user.

What that means is that when the monthly bill comes, it’s addressed to the primary cardholder. All purchases made by others users will be shown on the statement, but the primary user will be responsible for all the charges. The good news is that the annual fee of any supplementary card is usually lower than the fee that the primary cardholder pays, but you also need to consider any promotions available.

Earn and redemption rates

When it comes to the earn rate with joint credit cards, it’s exactly the same for both cards. Let’s say you have the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card. The earn rate is 5 Marriott Bonvoy points for every $1 spent on eligible purchases at participating Marriott Bonvoy properties and 2 points per dollar spent on all other purchases. It doesn’t matter if you’re the primary cardholder or you’re using the authorized user credit card, you both earn the same number of points.

Supplementary cardholders can not make redemptions directly. Since you’re pooling your miles and/or points, everything ends up in the primary cardholder’s account. This isn’t a big deal since the primary cardholder can just make a redemption on behalf of the joint cardholder. However, that could still pose a problem if you’re not travelling with the primary cardholder as your included travel insurance (with the exception of travel medical) wouldn’t be included.

NJPW Guide (Part 5): Bullet Club Part 1 - History

Bullet Club, unlike most other groups in New Japan, has a storied history of leaders, betrayal, new leaders, new betrayal, and general evolution of the group. This means that, looking at the group today, it is kind of important to explain what came before and why the group changed.

The Prince Era

Bullet Club was founded by Prince Devitt, better known today as Finn Balor in WWE, who founded the group due to turning heel after a match where he failed to beat Tanahashi. Originally the group was 4 foreign wrestlers (Devitt, Bad Luck Fale, Karl Anderson, & Tama Tonga) who banded together due to a desire to win by any means necessary. After expanding the group so they were able to compete for basically any title, Devitt started a rivalry with his former partner Ryusuke Taguchi. During a match with him he ordered that nobody from BC was allowed to interfere. The Young Bucks came out and broke that rule and Devitt got into an argument with them due to this. After attacking the Bucks for turning their back on him and shaking hands with Taguchi after the match, Devitt left Bullet Club and NJPW.

The Phenomenal Era

Later on in the same show where Devitt left AJ Styles debuted by attacking the IWGP Heavyweight Champ Kazuchika Okada, revealing afterwards that he was wearing a Bullet Club shirt. This era is viewed as having 2 leaders, Styles and Karl Anderson, co-leading the group. Under this leadership Bullet Club won the IWGP Heavyweight title for the first time, AJ Styles won it from Okada, and winning every title there was to win in New Japan at the time. The group also further expanded with the most notable new member being Kenny Omega, who was added to replace Devitt as the Junior Heavyweight challenger of the group. This era would come to an end when, after a fairly unsuccessful Wrestle Kingdom 10 where AJ Styles failed to beat Shinsuke Nakamura, Omega beat Nakamura in a tag match where he was partnered with Styles. After the match Omega beat up Styles and, along with the Young Bucks, managed to convince everyone else to kick Styles out. In a post match promo Omega announced he was becoming a Heavyweight, he and The Young Bucks were now officially “The Elite” within Bullet Club, and that Bullet Club would rule the world.

The Elite Era

During this era Bullet Club was that Bullet Club largely became Face. They lowered the amount of interference in matches, The Elite doing more comedy and wackiness in matches, and in general trying to become more likeable. During this Era Kenny Omega also went on to win the G1, being the first time a Non-Japanese wrestler has won it, and having a series of long as hell but generally thought of as amazing matches with Kazuchika Okada. However not everything was great while Kenny was in charge. The original Bone Soldier joined the group. And also Tensions were starting to get massively high. Between Cody joining and being much more of a bastard than Kenny was comfortable with & a lot of the original members of the Bullet Club getting pissed off at The Elite for making BC all about them. This led too...

The Civil War

Originally this Era was all about Cody VS Kenny in a war between two Elite members for control, that also had heavy tones of a bisexual love triangle between Cody, Kenny, and Kota Ibushi. However that rapidly fell by the wayside due to BCOG. Bullet Club OG was a group that formed in response to The Elite’s dominance. Headed up by The Tongans(Generally every Tongan member of BC but more specifically Bad Luck Fale and Tama Tonga) the group wanted a return to the bastards of old, rather than the good guys they seemingly were. Then at King of Pro Wrestling 2018 Jay White attacked Tanahashi, his seeming Stablemate Okada came out to try and bring some order to it. However BCOG came out as well and everyone proceeded to beat up Okada, making it clear White joined the OG’s. This led to him being the new leader of the group and, with The Elite dropping Bullet Club and then leaving NJPW alltogether, led to Jay White being the new leader of Bullet Club.

The Switchblade Era

Now Bullet Club is more united that it has been in years, with Jay White as the head with Tama Tonga being, similar to Karl Anderson years ago, being a slightly lower member of the card as Co-Leader. With some new members being added and the group returning to the attacks and disrespect of old, Bullet Club has become the main villanous group in New Japan once again. And now it seems they are all set on all-out war with their face aligned competitors, with various members fueding with various Chaos and LIJ members. Time will tell how this pans out for the group but one thing is certain. It is Bullet Club 4 Life.

Sorry if that was real dumb in places, it is hard to do a history without just regurgitating information. Also this got out far quicker than I was expecting so I fully forsee there to have been some important fact I missed. General Discussion: All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Part 2

This is a part 2 of a recent dump of stuff I’m talking about in regards to AEW, if you want to see my critiques and comments in hindsight about AEW Check it out on part 1 -> Here Part 2 is gonna revolve around the future, immediate and long-term, starting with the upcoming All Out PPV

All Out 2020

Criticisms about the Buy In aside, All Out still looks like a heavily stacked card, which is always a positive. I do worry a little that the Tooth and Nail match’s addition will cut into others’ time so hopefully everyone gets a good amount, but if people criticise some matches for being too short remember that fan demand insisted that the same Swole/Baker match be on the paid card rather than having a lot of time to show it for free. And as much as people criticise AEW’s women, the women’s matches are among the top 5 most anticipated matches on the card, probably only behind the tag title and world title match, isn’t that a great thing? Not to mention that the women’s title match encourages AEW/NWA relations, which really would make wrestling better if wrestlers could be more fluid in their appearances. But anyway, All Out is something I look forward to, so let’s break down some predictions? (if you’re wondering why I’m not just doing this on a podcast or something, my voice is not the dulcet flowing river of articulation my writing would imply to be, I like having time and proofing my words, plus if I talk to much my tongue swells and I stutter, stammer and suck at eye contact) So my thoughts for the full card

Predictions

The Buy In

Casino Battle Royale - Eddie Kingston. While I’d be down for Fénix, Pentagon, Archer or even a new or returning face like PAC to win, I think Kingston is the safe bet. The man talks like liquid and his match with Cody brought a lot of eyes to the product. This will continue and start new hostilities, but don’t expect anyone who has faced Moxley before to win, AEW don’t do title rematches so much.

Private Party vs Dark Order (Silver and Reynolds) - this quickly put-together match is going to Private Party, because Silver and Reynolds are enhancement tag teams still, they can win but they won’t win often. Plus the more Silver loses the more bits he’ll have with Brodie on BTE and those are gold.

Main Card

Tooth and Nail - Britt Baker, I expect the cinematic match to have shenanigans but also protect Baker in the midst of her injury recovery. While Swole has been doing the physical lifting of the feud I think having Britt lose on her return could be the wrong choice in the long run.

Dark Order vs The Nightmare Family - Dark Order, Brodie has elevated the tag team to the point where they are a big faction, and they need the big win for this. Cardona, Sky and the Natural Nightmares can take this loss too, but I’d expect QT or Dustin to take the fall for this. Bonus prediction that Tay Conti will indeed join the Dark Order with Anna Jay, leading to them beating down Brandi and Allie at ringside (setting up a women’s tag feud that’d explain why they were kept on other sides of the Deadly Draw bracket)

The Young Bucks vs Jurassic Express - This one I have Jurassic Express, it may be an upset because the Bucks are still reeling from Hangman’s betrayal, this can also lead to the Bucks being more heelish to accompany a Cleaner Kenny Omega. Keep your eye on Jungle Boy, AEW are still hot on him for good reason, this’ll be a huge scalping for Jurassic Express if they pull it off.

Broken Rules - A tough one, but I’m gonna stick with the Multifarious Matt Hardy. I don’t think he wants to end his career just yet and AEW would be foolish to let him go. Plus technically Sami is 2-0 in this feud, so it won’t hurt Sami too much to win in Hardy’s wheelhouse.

Mimosa Mayhem - Another tough one to put down the middle, I am gonna go with Orange Cassidy though. I think Jericho wants to amend the sloppy finish Cassidy’s win had and this’ll make for good comedy to see Jericho (and maybe Hager) flailing around in Mimosa

Women’s Title - I will be happy with either winning, but my heart says Shida. Mainly because I think Britt is the one who should take it from her, their last match was a banger after all. Rosa won’t look weak though, they may even have Shida challenge for the NWA women’s title down the line.

Tag Titles - FTR. That’s it, that’s all you need to know. Hangman’s head is out of the game and Kenny is becoming the Cleaner, it’s time for this schism to start properly, they’ve held it for about a year as well, it’s time.

World Title (Moxley cannot use Paradigm Shift) - It’s easy to say MJF, he is the home breed future and Moxley has had a long run defeating tougher opponents, but I am thinking that Moxley will retain. This is mainly because the odds are so stacked against him, he’ll eke out a win despite MJF’s trickery. The challenger will look fantastic to prove that he will be champion some day, but not today. Instead I think MJF will be thwarted by miscommunication, and as he hinted at during his tag match with Jurassic Express, will split from Wardlow for his ‘fatal error’. Then we’ll get Moxley vs Kingston which can be just as fantastic.

Looking to the Future So ‘looking to the future’ is not gonna all be direct consequences of All Out, some of it is just stuff I’d like to see happen, not all of it has to and my enjoyment isn’t killed from it, but certain things would make AEW better in my opinion. Business Relations So of course it’d be great to have more working relationships with other brands, AEW is already close to OWE and AAA, getting NWA on board would be a good step to establishing good relationships with ROH as well, maybe even NJPW. On the women’s side it’d be nice if they made more solid ties with Cyberfight - which has DDT Pro, TJPW and NOAH, maybe even Stardom, Sendai Girls, EVE and Ice Ribbon. More relationships would offer wrestlers not working Dynamite or Dark to perhaps represent elsewhere. In this representing it’d be great to see more outside titles being shown, it’s free advertising really. Thunder Rosa will for sure be carrying her NWA Women’s title but wouldn’t it be cool if other brand titles could be carried; Kenny carrying his AAA title with the tag titles, Cardona his Internet title, Lucha Bros their HOG and AAA Tag titles, Big Swole her Phoenix of Rise title, Moxley his NJPW US title (though I expect him to lose to KENTA soon), Rosa’s TJPW International Princess title as well and Yuka Sakazaki’s TJPW Princess of Princess Title. It may be me but seeing these titles does add an air of legitimacy to the competitors, showing how successful they are overseas while promoting other promotions. I’d also like to pitch a ‘Locked Down’ mini show or segment where AEW could show what their international talent is doing, Emi Sakura’s ChocoPro could be a light hearted segment, PAC could do some solid promos and like showing the titles, it’d expose the roster as talented. New Signings Someone just has to do good to have people ask for AEW to sign them, but in some cases it would be cool to sign them up. Of the frequent flyers right now AEW would be mad not to sign Ivelisse and Diamante, and I’ve already expressed my hopes that they sign Will Hobbs, Serpentico, Shawn Dean, Brian Pillman Jr, Kilynn King, Tay Conti, Veda Scott, Nicole Savoy/Lil’ Swole and Pineapple Pete, but it’d also be good business to at least call up Renee Paquette/Good/Young and Mauro Ranallo, even if it is for some guest appearances. Signing the likes of Danhausen, Warhorse, ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey, Millie McKenzie, Laura Di Matteo, Lana Austin, Jamie Hayter, Chris Brookes, Maki Itoh, Miyu Yamashita, Mirio (if he wants to come back into wrestling) and AR Fox. This being said, this should only ease into the Second Show, where we can expose more of the current roster as well. Speaking of Which. (A Few) New Accolades With a bigger division will require more competition. Not all of them need to be titles but something to be fought for. MJF’s Diamond Ring and Cage’s FTW title can help in that matter, but I think a Trios Accolade would be next in line for AEW. This would open the door for more teams to compete; The Elite, Jurassic Express, Best Friends, SCU, Dark Order, Nightmare Family, Death Triangle etc. would still keep it competitive and open the door for more stories of faction warfare. Since this is only my thoughts I would love to see the tag division be intergender too but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that. If we do move to this though PLEASE use whoever designed the world and tag belt, not the TNT belt. Faction Bolstering AEW are looking at the NJPW formula or big factions going into war or tensions with one another, which is good since it does make for lines to be written in the sand. But I think the factions can just be a little bit bigger in some places, and some are easy to add in already. Conti joins Dark Order for 2 women there, have Ivelisse and Diamante join the Inner Circle so we have full LAX (plus Ivelisse tagged with Sammy in LU), Statlander can pair with Best Friends and renew BTE’s skits of her and Orange Cassidy’s palpable sexual tension, I would also enjoy the thought of TH2 joining with Kip and Penelope just to be a faction of talented arseholes. May be the crass side of me, but I also seem to want Brian Pillman Jr to join the Gunn Club simply so we can have an entrance theme that starts ‘Someone call 911, Pillman’s got a Gunn’, Vickie Guerrero could grow her managing of Nyla to an all women ‘Las Guerreras’ faction maybe with Kilynn King, Shaul Guerrero, Abadon or someone else would be a decent move in my books but an exciting faction I can see clearly is a Moxley faction with Darby Allin and Lance Archer. Imagine having Jake the Snake taking care of all that, oh yes is that the good stuff. Future Feuds We’ll end with talking about some feuds I hope to see down the line too, even if they’re not set up already. I’ve already expressed my want for Kingston vs Moxley but another Kingston feud I see in the making is against PAC, Kingston is the man with the plan but PAC will want his Death Triangle buddies back. Speaking of, Moxley could use some bangers with Fenix and Pentagon, both are megastars. While the tag division is looking like it’ll lead to FTR vs Bucks, I think the bigger money is FTR vs Bucks vs Hangman and Kenny first, with Kenny having the Elite ties and Hangman with the FTR ties the storytelling would be ridiculously immense. This thought almost made me pick Hangman and Kenny to win at All Out...almost. I would expect a lot of title defenses from Mr. Brodie Lee, particularly from Cardona but I’d love it if Jungle Boy was the one to win it from him, and for JB to face Sammy Guevara, of the 4 Young Prospects of AEW I don’t think Sammy and JB have gone 1-on-1, could be wrong but Sammy usually went for Darby and JB to MJF, Fénix vs JB would be excellent also. Luchasaurus is also due his hoss match with the Butcher, as well as further conflict with Cage and Archer Also I’d like Shida vs Conti, both are very martial arts-like in their wrestling especially the latter so it would be a good physical match. But yeah, that’s out of my system for now, we’ve talked some good, some bad and some middle, don’t think it matters to anyone but I’ve said my piece Bring on All Out!
