At first, he's right. Stuck with the same girls from his middle school who love to make fun of him, Dan doesn't know why his teacher insisted he come on this trip. Captured and taken by the Martians, Godzilla is forced to fight in a gladiatorial arena, where the King of the Monsters faces its biggest challenge yet: King Ghidorah. In the finale, at a quiet beachside town ravaged by constant sewage spillages and toxic waste dumps, something is stirring. As war approaches and her contact with Howard is broken, it becomes clear to Irmina that prosperity will only be possible through the betrayal of her ideals. Based on a true story, this moving and perceptive graphic novel perfectly conjures the oppressive atmosphere of wartime Germany, reflecting with compassion and intelligence on the complicity that results from the choice, conscious or otherwise, to look away.

If you haven’t read the comic “Project Nought” by Chelsey Furedi (@cheriiart) yet, you totally should! I really loved it a lot and I totally recommend it! The story and adventure is a lot of fun, and the characters are absolutely adorable!
I know it only came out recently, but I still wanted to draw some fan art for it! I love Ren and Mars so much lol. (more of me being excited under “keep reading”)
Also, I’m super proud of the author and artist (Chelsey Furedi) because even though I don’t know her IRL, I’ve followed her art for years, starting right here on Tumblr back in the day! She made the webcomic Rock and Riot years ago (also one of my faves), and I’ve followed her work ever since! I remember being so excited when I heard she was publishing her first official comic book!
Her art and writing has improved so much!!! It’s really inspiring to me to see (in real time) an independent tumblr artist improve so much and get into publishing!
and yeah THE STORY ITSELF IS SO GOOD??? HELL YEAH!!! No spoilers from me here, but trust me IT’S GOOD

comic recommendations
hi again,
recently I made a post as a compilation of some of my favourite webcomics and it got me thinking. What are my favourite physical comics/graphic novels? Anyway here they are (heartstopper is not included but is obviously one).
Tumblr media
bloom by Kevin Panetta -Its a romance style comic similar to heartstopper following hector and ari. Ari's family works in a bakery and one day Hector is hired and the two fall in love etc. Its a sweet storyline with an easy to follow page layout and style.
Tumblr media
The sad ghost club by lizzie Meddings - This book is really great for those who are struggling with anxiety and other mental health issues. Through the comic it depicts the struggles that someone with mental health problems may face and encourages you to be kind to yourself through the character of a ghost called Socks. The art style is very pretty and is in black and white watercolour it is very unique and definitely not something I have seen before.
Tumblr media
PROJECT NOUGHT by Chelsey furedi - This is another queer romance that follows Ren and Mars. Its set in the year 2122 and as part of a student project unaware Ren is sent into the future which is where he meets Mars. The two go on an adventure to uncover some of the secrets of exploitation time travel company Chronotech has kept under lock and key for a long time.
Tumblr media
Pumpkin Heads by Rainbow Rowel-This follows the friendship of Deja and Josiah who every autumn work at a pumpkin patch this year is their last year before college. Together they decide to have the best final shift they could imagine.
Tumblr media
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowel-originally this was a book but was adapted into a 4 book graphic novel/ manga style comic. The story is about cather and her first experience of freedom in her first semester in college. Unfortunately unlike her twin Wren she is not outgoing and is actually quite terrified of the outside world. Through the book she experiences her first tastes of adult life from bars to parties to boys. Its a bit trivial maybe a bit cringe but its a fun easy read. What is there not to love!
Tumblr media
If you’ve made it this far thank you I hope you read some of my recommendations
Daizine :)

WIP Ask Game
Tagged by @foreverginevra, @theresthesnitch and @soloorganaas! Thank you!!
Rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have wips. (You can make your own post or reblog this one!)  I have deemed that this isn’t just for writing either. Sketch titles? Comics? Dnd campaigns? If you have an unfinished project, it counts!!
I had done a similar one a few months ago when I had first got back to writing, and had included all of my old and long abandoned fics; so let's try again now, only with the WIPs that date after that one!
The Tournament
Prompt 1 thejilyship
Afterlife: Liberated
Sirius/Lily smut
Lily and Clark: The New, New Adventures of Superman
Petunia/Sirius
As If By Magic sequel
The Rest Is History
Tagging: @thejilyship, @prongsdamnyou, @nought-shall-go-ill, @petalstofish, @turanga4, @constancezin (art counts!), @evesaintyves and also my dear @darethshirl!

Deadeye 2: Electric Boogaloo
I added a second chapter to my fic inspired by @5hio’s wonderful royai/fma cowboy AU. What started out as a one-shot may develop into a full fic, as I really do love this! In the meantime, please enjoy this second helping <3
The fic so far is available to read over on AO3 and the second chapter can be read below the cut if that’s more your thing ;)
Hope you enjoy!
Chapter 2: sunsets and firelight
They’ve been riding for a few hours now.
Atop their respective steeds, and side-by-side, the journey has mostly passed in silence with nought but the sound of hooves against the prairie to disturb the peace.
He’s made casual conversation a few times.
But Riza doesn’t seem all that keen to talk.
It isn’t born out of rudeness, no, Roy instead supposes that she simply isn’t all that used to company.
After all, most gunslingers like her tend to go it alone.
Roy can’t think of anything worse, these few weeks he’s spent alone have been enough hell for one lifetime.
So, he’s glad for her company.
The sun is low in the sky, its orange hue casting shadows across the plains, and bathing them both in evening rays. There’s just something all the more ethereal about watching the sunset from horseback, Roy decides.
And the colour of the sky reminds him of her eyes again.
“Beautiful, isn’t it?” Roy pipes up, throwing his glance momentarily in her direction before continuing to observe as the sun dips steadily beneath the horizon and out of sight.
He wonders just how many sunsets she’s watched out here alone.
She hums, “We should think about making camp soon. It won’t be long until it’s dark.”
“It is getting cold,” Roy agrees.
She turns her head back towards him, “I think that’s just the alcohol making you feel cold.”
She’s right, of course.
The effects of the alcohol still linger within Roy’s system, even despite the sobering experience of the bar fight. There’s a dull throbbing behind his eyes and in his temples that tells him the morning hangover is going to be killer.
But that’s a problem for the Roy of tomorrow.
They canter for a little while longer, Riza’s dog contributing the occasional bark at its own shadow, before the woman stops suddenly and dismounts from her horse.
“This seems like as good a place as any,” she informs him as she surveys the area with hands poised sharply at her waist.
Roy decides to defer to her judgment. Frankly, he’s not so sure what makes this particular spot any better than the miles and endless miles of dust they’ve already trekked through today, but he’s happy to stop. He’s exhausted, and his own Mustang beneath him is flagging too.
It’s been a long day.
Clambering down from his horse with about as much grace, coordination and dignity that a drunkard can have, Roy successfully manages to get his boot caught in his stirrup.
Overshooting the force required to release his foot, Roy sends himself toppling backwards and he lands with a harsh thud, his back stinging against the ground.
“Ow!” He splutters, choking on the dust his impact kicked up. Escorting a hand behind himself, Roy rubs at the impact site on his back and knows that it’s definitely going to bruise.
He silently hopes that Riza hasn’t just seen him make a complete arse of himself.
She has.
“I’m impressed you were able to stay upright on your horse for the entire ride,” Riza explains, arms full of bundled canvas and bedrolls, with her amusement barely concealed.
“I’ve been way more drunk than this before,” Roy states, wearing it like a badge of honour. He grins up at her dumbly, but she isn’t impressed in the slightest.
“Here,” she says with a curt roll of her eyes, dropping a bedroll down onto Roy’s stomach like a dead weight.
It’s the second time today he’s had the wind knocked out of him, this time his legs shoot comically upwards and curl inwards towards his chest from the bedroll’s impact.
I probably deserved that, he thinks.
Standing to his full height, and pushing the bedroll under his arm, Roy moves to tie his steed to the abandoned fencepost next to Riza’s own. He brushes his palm gently down his horse’s snout, offering her praises and a fuss behind one ear.
Riza has already set about making her tent when Roy strides back over, she’s efficient in its assembly and he supposes it must be second nature for her by this point.
The same can’t be said for him.
Rolling out the bedroll is simple enough, but setting up a tent? Roy’s sure that he doesn’t have enough arms.
And his alcohol addled mind is doing nothing to help the situation.
After what feels like hours of fumbling, and with his head trapped inside the canvas somehow, he feels another pair of hands take the material and help to free him.
“Here, let me,” Riza says softly, impressed by Roy’s enthusiasm, but amused by his failure. “You collect the firewood instead.”
That’s probably a little bit more up to his speed.
A short stroll away from the camp leads him to a babbling stream; on its banks, he finds dried perennial grasses and old branches. He puffs his chest out in victory and gathers arms full of the stuff so that he can make a sufficient fire.
His foraging effort successful, he returns to camp to find Riza proudly stood beside his tent, making the final few adjustments to ensure the structure is secure.
“Thanks,” Roy says with an honest smile, “Found us some firewood too.”
“Don’t mention it,” she says. “Just set it down over there.”
Depositing the wood, leaves and twigs into a heap, Roy reaches into his pocket to extract his lighter.
It’s pure silver, an heirloom from the father he’s never met.
Successfully sparking the fire to life with a flick of his wrist, Roy re-caps the lighter and passes his thumb idly over the initialled engraving.
He only realises he’s been daydreaming when Riza breaks the silence between them.
He realises she’s scowling.
“What was that?” Roy asks, not having heard what she’d said the first time due to his personal distraction.
“I asked if you smoke,” she repeats, voice laced with apprehension as she gestures pointedly towards the lighter, her lip curled in something like distaste.
He laughs, “Only on days with a ‘y’ in them!”
She’s not laughing.
“Well,” she begins curtly, “If you must smoke, I’d rather you didn’t do it in camp.”
Roy blinks, confused, his brow furrowed tightly. Yes mother, he thinks, but he’s able to bite his tongue.
Instead, he nods and simply repockets the lighter, “You’ve got it.”
***
Roy’s stomach gurgles in anticipation, a reminder of just how little he’s eaten over the past few days, as Riza stirs a pot of beans which sits warming enticingly over the fire.
She’s already passed him a bowl; it’s simple, wooden, and nothing like the silverware he’d been used to back when he was a sheriff.
“Should be warm enough by now,” Riza hums, extending her arm outwardly towards Roy.
He passes her the bowl, eyeing her over the top of it with an expression akin to a puppy begging for scraps, as she begins to fill it.
“Please, ma’am,” he drawls, “May I have some more?”
“Idiot,” she says endearingly with a shake of her head. “Fine, you can have another scoop.”
Victorious, and with his bowl piled high, Roy immediately gets to work. Jamming his spoon deep into the bowl, he piles up a hefty portion and pushes it deep into his mouth.
He watches keenly as Riza sets aside a more conservative portion for herself before seating herself down beside him. She has a bottle in hand, too. Roy hopes that it’s something strong. He holds his hand out expectantly.
She scoffs.
“Absolutely not,” Riza scolds. Instead, she tosses him a bota bag. “It’s water-only for you, at least until you sober up.”
Roy whines, catching the bottle and uncapping it before taking a glug. He’s almost forgotten what water tastes like.
They nourish themselves in silence for a while longer until both of their bowls are emptied. She collects his, rises to her feet, and sets them aside to wash in the morning.
Roy wonders if she ever stops thinking about what’s next.
But he also supposes that ignorance is a luxury not afforded by those who call the Wild West their home.
It’s a while before she seats herself beside him again and, when she does, she has another bottle in hand. She sips slowly from it, her focus trained on the flickering campfire.
“You really know your way around out here, huh?” Roy asks, shattering the silence, and keen to know more about her.
“I’ve lived out here almost my whole life. It’s all I’ve ever known,” she explains, casting her sepia eyes over to him.
He frowns, “Have you always been out here alone?”
“Not always,” she sighs after a pause. “It used to be me and my father.”
Her eyes drift back over towards the campfire and stare idly ahead, clear in thought.
He’s clearly prodded on a nerve.
“My aunt raised me,” he interjects quickly, keen to change the subject and regain her focus.
It works. A small smile plays at her lips, a curiousness in her eyes.
“Here, just let me –” He sticks out his tongue and purses it between his lips as he rummages around inside the deep pocket of his overcoat. He finally finds his prize.
In the palm of his hand sits a gold pocket-watch; it shimmers in the dull light of the campfire, the seal of the lion clear on its front. He brushes off the lint and blows on it before he buffs it clean with the corner of his sleeve.
Her eyes are wide when he looks up.
He swallows.
She points towards the watch inquisitively, “Is that gold?”
He nods.
Something like a frown sets about her face again.
“My aunt gave it to me,” he explains.
He supposes it’s entirely likely that Riza may never have seen gold in the flesh before, especially not all the way out here.
He pushes the clasp on the watch with his thumb and reveals the clockface and small photograph inside.
He hands the photograph to her.
“That’s me and, as you can see, I’ve gotten more handsome with age,” he grins.
She chuckles with a shake of her head, her frown dissipated.
Next, Roy jabs a finger at the other figure on the photograph, “And that stubborn battle-axe right there is my aunt.”
“I can see the resemblance,” Riza notes quietly, studying the photograph.
“She raised me. I never knew my folks. They died when I was young. She never told me exactly what happened to them. Said it wouldn’t do any good to know.”
“I’m sorry,” Riza notes apologetically.
He dismisses it with a wave of his hand, “Don’t be. No use mourning parents I never knew, right?”
She hands him back the photograph, nodding her head, a flickering sadness in her own eyes, “I never knew my mother, either. She died having me, so I understand.”
Roy swallows, eyeing her apologetically, “That must be hard.”
She shakes her head, “It’s like you said, no using in mourning, even my father never spoke about her.”
“For what it’s worth,” he says, “I am sorry.”
She nods again, “Thank you.”
He leans to rest on his elbow, looking up at her.
“Hey, who needs blood relatives when you’ve got a horse, a dog, and a drunkard to look after, right?”
Sharp as a tack, she fires back, “Who says I’m keeping you?”
Roy chuckles, “Fair enough.”
At least it made her smile again.
Riza finishes her drink silently and rises to her feet. Dusting herself down, she eyes Roy like a mother scolding a son for staying up way beyond his bedtime. “It’s late,” she says, “And you need to sleep the alcohol off.”
“I’ll go take a leak,” Roy tells her, “Then I’ll head straight to bed.”
She scrunches up her nose and Roy supposes that they don’t know each other quite well enough for toilet humour just yet.
Hayate has joined the woman’s side by the time Roy has managed to drag himself up to his feet; the dog patters obediently inside the tent as Riza holds open its entrance.
He can’t help but smile at the sweet scene.
But he also can’t help but be a little bit jealous.
He’s about to ready himself for bed when he notices that he pauses before entering the tent herself.
She looks to him.
“Goodnight, Mr. Mustang,” Riza breathes softly.
Now, that makes his heart flutter.
He beams, nodding enthusiastically in acknowledgment, “Sweet dreams, Ms. Hawkeye.”
He watches as she disappears out of sight, smiling dumbly and fondly to himself for a few seconds until his brain eventually catches up and rather unhelpfully reminds him that he still really, really needs to pee.

Name Calling (3)
FANDOM - MCU
PAIRING - BUCKY X READER (female reader, no physical descriptions)
WARNINGS - ALL OF THEM, SMUT, VIOLENCE ANGST
DESCRIPTION - In which the ongoing and bloody war of words between you and Bucky turns in your favor when a disgruntled one night stand of his lets slip a secret when you run into her in the elevator… Now you have all the ammunition you need to destroy your enemy but you don’t plan on killing him quickly. Oh no, Bucky Barnes was going to suffer and you were going to enjoy every second. You just didn’t count on how much you would enjoy it.
Chapter Three - Vernichtung
Bucky stormed away from the kitchen and from you as fast as his feet could carry him. His chest was heaving and his shoulders were shaking as he tried to contain the rage coursing through him. As soon as you had viciously cut him with your words he had almost lost control for a split second and had slammed his metal fist onto the counter before he could…
“Bucky.” Steve’s voice cut into his anger clouded mind before he could finish the thought.
Bucky paused but didn’t turn around, ragged breaths tearing themselves from his throat as he tried to calm down.
“What was that?” Steve’s voice was low and even and when Bucky ignored him he continued.
“I have never seen her act like that, I’ve never seen heard you say such cruel things either. What the hell happened between you two to cause that?”
Bucky pushed his hair out of his eyes and shrugged half heartedly
“I guess being called damaged goods pushed her buttons and she snapped. And people call me unstable.” Bucky snarked.
Steve glared at him and opened his mouth, probably to give a Captain America patented lecture before realization flickered across his face and he frowned.
“That’s not it Buck, I wouldn’t tell her you said that and besides we were together the whole time. She couldn’t have known what you said about her.” Steve’s tone made it clear he was still annoyed about what exactly Buck had said.
Bucky’s eyes narrowed and he half smirked
“Maybe little miss perfect needs to remember she’s not the only one with enhanced hearing.”
Steve’s mouth opened and closed several times before he clenched his jaw, the ramifications of what Bucky was saying sinking in.
“You heard her coming and knew she could hear you. That’s why you said those things. You wanted her to hear them.”
“She needed to hear it Steve, she prances about this place having everybody fawn over her. She’s nothing special, she’s just a failed experiment. She doesn’t deserve special treatment.” Bucky snarled.
“Are you jealous of her? Buck you have me, you have memories of a life before all that. She had nothing. She was born and raised in that damn facility. People fawn over her because its the first and only kindness she’s ever been shown!” Steve’s volume rose as he spoke
“Get your head together and stop treating her so awful. She deserves better, she’s a good person!” Steve pleaded with his oldest friend.
Bucky scoffed in response and walked away
“She’s not a person at all Steve.”

Sam raised his fist and knocked on the door as he mulled over the situation with Y/N and Barnes. A couple of seconds passed before the door swung open and he pushed the issues aside for a brief moment so he could spare a heartfelt smile for the red haired spy he had sought out. She responded with a smirk of her own and a raised brow.
“What can I do for you Wilson?” Natasha enquired curiously.
“Need you to help me diffuse a rapidly escalating situation.”
She swung the door open and invited him in with a tilt of her head. Sam made a beeline for the kitchenette and immediately busied himself making coffee. He glanced over to the couch where Natasha was subtly piling up paperwork and files. Noticing him watching she slipped them out of sight.
“Little side project I’m doing for Stark.” She said by way of explanation.
Sam knew that was all the explanation he was going to get.
“So I take it this is about Barnes and Y/N?” She asked
“Man I’m not even gonna ask how you know.”
“Not much outside of a mission could have you this wound up and the tension between them has been growing steadily. It was only a matter of time before it escalated.” She told him.
“Well she overheard him basically calling her unlovable and broken and she responded by reminding him he was a murderer and she… was not. Then Robocop broke the kitchen. You know Steve and I actually thought those two were going to be good for each other once upon a time. Similar backstory and all that.” Sam handed over her coffee as he sighed wistfully.
“There are elements of similarity there but a lot of differences as well. They were never going to get along because they each have the one thing the other wants more than anything.” Natasha told him.
“He has a normal human past and she has a clean rap sheet. It’s like somehow a genie mixed up their wishes.” Sam mused.
Natasha hummed in agreement as she sipped the latte contentedly. Nobody made coffee like Sam Wilson.
“So how do we stop this before somebody gets hurt?” Sam asked her.
Natasha smiled her super spy ‘I know something you don’t know’ smile
“Sometimes Wilson, the only way out is through”
“You’re not honestly suggesting we do nothing? They’ll kill each other.”
“There’s nothing we can do. We can’t make them like each other and any attempts to sway them will be seen as hostile. We just have to pick up the pieces and let them work it out of their systems.” She advised.
“Fine, but when they start Civil War 2 Caps gonna be pissed I’m not on his side. Barnes took my steering wheel, he’s not taking my Y/N.”
“Did you just compare Y/N to a steering wheel?”
“That came out wrong.”

You curled your body into the smallest ball you could as you soaked up the sense of warmth and safety your current location gave you. Someone’s legs passed your line of vision but you didn’t flinch, you knew who it was. You considered calling out to let him know you were there but decided against it. You were perfectly content where you were and knowing he was close by was enough. The decision was for nought as you yawned softly as the legs passed you by again, the end of your yawn tapering off into a squeak as you stretched. The legs paused in front of you and suddenly you were staring at the upside down amused face of Tony Stark.
“You napping under my desk again Kit Kat?”
“No.”
He raised his eyebrows at you, which from your current position looked comical.
“I’m relaxing, not napping.” You protested as you crawled out from under the desk.
When you had first been brought out of the facility where you were made the only person you felt safe around was Tony. Since Tony spent most of his time in the lab you’d been made to feel at home in the space. In the beginning open spaces still made you uneasy and you’d spent most of your time curled up under his desk. Tony never questioned your behaviour or made you feel weird about it, instead he just took to fondly calling you an abundance of cat related nicknames and made sure there were always blankets and pillows in your little safe space.
Tony tossed a screwdriver in your general direction and pointed you towards… well you weren’t sure what it was. A sci-fi looking contraption.
“Unscrew all the metal plates from the sides.” He instructed you.
“Am I average looking?” You asked him.
He paused from whatever he was doing on the other side of the lab and puzzled over your strange question. Or rather you assumed that was what he was doing. It had been part of Bucky’s original assessment to Steve of you and the only part of his insult you weren’t insulted by. More curious as to whether it was accurate.
“No. You’re beautiful.” Tony said matter of factly and went back to whatever he was doing.
Despite what other thought of him or how he acted with others Tony was actually incredibly patient with you. He never belittled or mocked you. He teased you relentlessly but had never come close to hurting your feelings with it. Whenever you didn’t understand something he just explained it. You had come out of the facility with very little knowledge of the world and the way it worked. Thanks to Tony you were a (mostly) fully functioning adult who could make pop culture references. Whenever you didn’t understand something, which happened less and less you had a system. If it involved science, technology or media you asked Tony. If it involved feelings, social interactions or societal regulations you asked Pepper. It was a good system and it served you well.
“This is the wrong screwdriver” You muttered
You grinned happily at the familiar whizzing sound as Dum-E came over to you excitedly waving the correct screwdriver. You crouched down to him and took it, patting him on the head affectionately. You didn’t see Tony watching you fondly but Natasha watching through the glass door caught it. With a smirk she entered the lab and tossed an envelope onto the desk next to Tony.
“As requested. And before you try and thank me, I was happy to do this one. It was my pleasure.” She quipped, throwing a glance back at you over her shoulder.
Tony looked somewhere between giddy and nervous as he looked down at the envelope. You were too busy babbling away to Dum-E as he tried to assist you with Tony’s contraption to pay attention to what was going on. You had heard Natasha come in but figured she’d come and see you after she spoke to Tony. You didn’t think whatever they were discussing was any of your business. You were wrong. The familiar sound of high heels clipping along the corridor reached your eyes and you stood up excitedly.
“Pepper!” You yelled excitedly
“Um… where?” Tony asked, looking around in confusion.
“That’s my cue to leave.” Natasha informed him and started to slip out of the lab.
She threw you a wink as you frowned at her, wordlessly letting you know she wasn’t ignoring you and everything was alright. She and Pepper passed each other in the doorway as Pepper rushed in.
“Did I miss it? Do you have them?” Pepper demanded of Tony, forgoing all hello’s.
Tony’s eyes barely hit the envelope before Pepper snatched it up and started methodically checking the contents. You and Dum-E shared a look of confusion before Pepper let out a loud exhale and nodded to Tony.
“Alright whiskers, we need to have a talk.” Tony informed you.

An hour later you were walking around the grounds in a daze. You wandered around aimlessly, your mind going a thousand miles a minute and your stomach churning. Anyone you came across ducked their head and gave you a wide berth, the dark emotions almost visibly rolling off you keeping them away. Until now. You hadn’t really registered the pounding sound of boots hitting the ground as someone jogged around the building. It was only when your blank stare into the void had lined up with the jogger that you crashed back into your own mind and you scowled. Around the same time Bucky slowed his jog down as he noticed you, his expression contorting to a scowl as well.
You almost swerved off the path to go walk across the grass and away from him but you refused to give him the satisfaction and instead jutted your chin up and glared at him.
“Soldat.” You hissed at him scathingly.
He nodded cooly at you as he casually jogged passed
“Vernichtung.” He tossed the greeting back at you with a smirk.
Your insides twisted painfully and bile rose up in the back of your throat when you heard the word. You screeched to a halt with a gasp as you tried to suck in enough oxygen. Bucky noted your reaction with a victorious grin.
“Don’t. Don’t call me that. Ever.” You growled out.
Bucky ceased jogging and turned back round to look at you and saw your wide eyed panicked expression. Your shoulders were raised and your hands clenched into fists as you hyperventilated. Bucky frowned, the beginnings of guilt stirring in him. You looked terrified, he could practically smell the fear on you. Yet… you had called him soldat first. A few hours ago you had called him a killer. In fact this was probably another act you were putting on, like your little performance with the waffles. His eyes narrowed at you.
“Why? That is your name isn’t it? That’s what they called you before Stark picked you up and gave you a new name. Like re homing a pet from the pound.”
Your eyes snapped up to his, fury beginning to push out the fear in your system.
“That’s all you are you know. An abused stray The Avengers picked up.”
The more he spoke the clearer your mind got. He thought he was getting to you but his words were having the opposite effect to what he intended. He was only reminding you what you weren’t.
“You’re not a teammate, or a friend to anyone here. You’re a pity project. Stop fooling yourself into thinking that you’re actually a real person. You’re nobody.”
His words made something inside of you click and you smiled softly to yourself as you reached into your pocket and pulled out the gift Tony had given you. Flipping it open you held it up for him to see.
“Actually Bucky, I’m a Stark.”
You turned on your heel and walked away from him, not caring how he reacted. You looked down at the passport in your hands with warmth blooming in your heart as you read your name. You were a Stark.

Some webcomic recs
Webcomics are as underrated as they are varied. I mostly read printed comics now, but there’s no way I’d have gotten there had I not found webcomics before - believe me, I tried, but this damn hobby is super inaccessible to a beginner, not to mention expensive. Webcomics are like fanfics in that regard - hell, some of them are fan comics - in that there’s something for everyone, all within your reach, but in order to find something you like you have to either 1. Get very, VERY lucky, 2. Be prepared to read a lot of bad stuff in order to get to the good stuff, or 3. Hear about them from people you trust.
I was a 2 - i would read anything, back in the day - and while i’m not as unconditionally enthusiastic as i was, there are still some gems I wish got the same appreciation as some talents in the industry. I’ll spare you the rest of the article (dm me for comic rants though), let’s get to it!
note: all the comics are numbered as “1″ because tumblr messed up the google docs formatting
Comics i still follow as they update because either tumblr starts posting about them right away or they’re on tapas
Check Please!
https://omgcheckplease.tumblr.com/
I’m probably not the one introducing you to Check Please, as it’s one of the most popular webcomics out there, thank god. The parts of the fandom i’m familiar with are cool and wholesome, just like the work itself. It’s about a southern gay kid, Eric Bittle, who joins the hockey team in his college. It’s impossible not to love every single character there, the sports drama elements are great, and the format is like solidarity put into panels. The Samwell Men’s Hockey team’s motto is “we’ve got each other’s backs”, and there isn’t a single part of the comic that doesn’t 100% incorporate that.
Heartstopper
https://tapas.io/series/Heartstopper
The 2000s so far have been a rough contest for the title of “sweetest ya romance” but guys, we found it, we can stop now. Nick and Charlie are in highschool, Charlie is gay and out (not by will), Nick plays rugby because apparently that’s what british jocks do. Can i make it any more obvious? It took me a while to fall in love with the artstyle but when i did i fell HARD - the creator is re-drawing some of the older chapters, though, so your experience might be different. The story’s captivating right away, and you want everyone there to be happy from pretty much page 1. The creator also writes ya prose, and some of her books are about other characters from the same school. I love all of them, but Radio Silence is my personal favorite. She also has two novellas about Nick and Charlie themselves, available as e-books.
Charity Case
https://tapas.io/series/Charity-Case
I rarely start new webcomics anymore, but boy, this one got me FAST. and that was even before I realized it’s a polyam love story, which i love but is surprisingly rare in webcomics - at least the ones i know. Julien, an irresponsible young musician, resorts to sharing an apartment with two roomates who are a couple. I fell for the unique, gorgeous artstyle first, and by the time i realized i’m also super invested in the story and characters, it’s already become one of my favorites. Plus, Julien’s hair looks so soft!
The Property of Hate
http://thepropertyofhate.com/TPoH/
THIS is what comics should be. There’s so much passion here, not just for the story but for the storytelling as well - and the two aren’t as separated as you might think. A young girl is recruited by a TV man to be a hero. The world they enter seems nonsensical and arbitrary at first, but as they travel she discovers its logic, stories and secrets. She will also, as her title suggests, need to save it. There’s so much i love about this comic that i don’t know where to start, so i’ll just say this: it’s absolutely inspiring, in every sense of the word. Also, read the creator’s duck comics, they’ll make you feel things.
Webcomics i occasionally remember to catch up on, get blown away all over again by how good they are, vow to check them regularly for updates then forget. And repeat
Wilde Life
https://wildelifecomic.com/
I think this is the first ever webcomic i read that had a plot? I got on the wagon at around chapter 1 or 2 and it’s hard to believe it but it only gets better with time, even though it already starts at 100%. Oscar moves to a new town and immediately makes friends with a ghost and a grumpy teen werewolf. It has both monster-of-the-week type problems and overarching plots, and reading it feels nostalgic and brand new at the same time. The fantasy world has this special feel to it, that makes me miss growing up in the american wilderness even though i, well, didn’t. Plus, the creator is cool as hell. I knit her a hat in high school in exchange for a commission.
Sfeer Theory
https://sfeertheory.com/
This comic got me through a hard time and i’ll forever be grateful for that. Also, it’s really, really good. This is another case of a comic where you fall in love with the art right away and before long you find yourself caring very much about the characters and the story. You might also find yourself growing out your hair to style it like Luca’s. If you’re me it’ll be a lost cause, so, uh, keep that in mind. Luca works as a technician at the prestigious Uitspan university. A mysterious, powerful man is looking to change that. While the comic’s biggest strength is probably the gorgeous, fascinating worldbuilding - and Luca’s hair - the characters are also ridiculously easy to relate to, even if we don’t know anything about them. Even the most meaningless extras are somehow compelling thanks to the dynamic, rich art style. And did i mention the hair? If you like it, you won’t be disappointed by everything else Little Foolery makes.
How To Be a Werewolf
http://www.howtobeawerewolf.com/
I almost didn’t read this one! My brain has decided i don’t like werewolves and i don’t know how to reverse that. But then i saw Elias’ body language and it was extremely fun and friendly, and so was the rest of the comic, and the rest is history. Malaya knows she’s a werewolf, but seeing as she doesn’t know any other werewolves, dealing with that is hard. That is until Elias discovers her and decides to help, along with the rest of his pack. It’s filled with family and solidarity feelings, some dark mysteries and themes, and the art is beautiful and expressive.
Monsterkind
http://monsterkind.enenkay.com/
Another case of read-everything-this-creator-makes-it’s-all-amazing! Wallace, a social worker, moves - or rather, is moved - to District C, which is mostly populated by monsters. His heart’s in the right place, and apparently so is his apartment, because his neighbors are cool as heck and agree, some of them reluctantly, to help him get his bearings. There’s a mystery to uncover, some monsters to help and a dashing tea octopus to woo - for Kip to woo, anyway - and it’s all a delight to read. Every single character brings their own lovable-ness to the table, and even with the darker parts, reading this comic kinda feels like being hugged.
Comics that no longer update
The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal - finished
http://tjandamal.com/
Guys. guys! I’m pretty sure this is my all time favorite comic, web OR printed. I have the printed version, i still read it online occasionally, a lot of the songs mentioned in it are now saved on my spotify, i had it as my phone background for a good couple of years, the whole package. Amal comes out to his family and it ends with him having to drive to his sister’s graduation in Providence. There’s a guy in his kitchen who just so happens to need a lift there, and he’s willing to pay, and Amal’s too hungover to argue. What follows is the best roadtrip story ever. I’m seriously considering getting my license just to recreate that route. I just really love this story, okay? Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, the creator’s music taste is GOOD.
Prague Race - to be continued in text
https://www.praguerace.com/
The fantasy aesthetic to end all fantasy aesthetics. And the characters are good and interesting. And the world is well built and leaves you wanting more. AND there’s a cat. And it looks so good! Leona is irresponsible and spontaneous and gets her friends in some weird shit that leaves them trapped in a strange world, dealing with several curses, trying to survive and make sense of it all. I could spend a lifetime looking at the art and die happy.
Shoot around - finished
https://www.webtoons.com/en/drama/shoot-around/list?title_no=399&page=1
A girl’s basketball team and its coach, Jeff, deal with a zombie apocalypse. They make the most of the post apocalyptic world. There’s drama, friendship, found family, love and hope - it’s basically everything a zombie apocalypse narrative should be. And i love how the creator plays with the colors from chapter to chapter!
Rock and Riot - finished
https://tapas.io/series/Rock-and-Riot
It’s cute! It’s fun! It’s a 1950’s queer ensamble cast high school drama! It’s what Grease would’ve been like in a better timeline, except we still got it in this timeline. The artstyle fits perfectly with the story and characters, but if you want to see what’s the creator capable of now, read their newest comic, Project Nought. It’s a cool sci fi story and just like in Rock and Riot, it’s super easy to connect to every character there.
Alright there’s a lot more but i somehow wrote 4 google docs pages of webcomic recs in one sitting (this is what i’m able to focus on? Really, brain?) and i think that’s enough for now. Like i said, please dm me if you want to talk about anything here, rec some of your own, listen to my rants or tell me i’m a nerd. Or all of the above. I might make a similar post with print comic, but right now i have some dogs to pet. Keep being cool!

Note
for the character ask how about uhh Jack and Saren 👀
i am literally over a month late answering this cause im dumb as hell and adhd likes to hold me at gunpoint lmfao
character ask meem
jack
favorite thing about them: honestly i really love her character arc…… being MAD about trauma but slowly realizing she’s tired of being mad and scared all the time and putting her time and effort into helping other people instead of blind destruction really spoke to younger severely traumatized me who really just, kinda needed that “you can be better, you haven’t been down this path too long, there’s still hope” message. i would kill for jack nought
least favorite thing about them: rmmbr when bioware was like “jack wore that leather strap and nothing else in 2 to hold her titties down in prison” and expected us to buy that she wouldn’t be allowed, like, a sports bra or even just a tank top. yeah
favorite line: i can’t remember the exact line but she says smth abt how her students are her kids and if cerberus wants to get to them, they’ll have to go through her first….. Growth
random headcanon: i feel like this one might be supported canon but i feel like when she’s trying to teach herself to calm down more she starts reading a lot of fantasy shit as a form of escapism, because that’s what younger me did and projection is fun
unpopular opinion: the “psychotic biotic” nickname is bad and everyone who either was responsible for it being in the game or perpetuates it in the fandom should feel bad
song i associate with them: “white rabbit” by egypt central [audio] [lyrics]
favorite picture of them: i have this shot from the end of her loyalty mission, as she’s fiddling with the bomb trigger, and i just. really love the emotion in her eyes, the distress and conflict you can see behind them. i have shots of her escape from cryo too and they’re badass but idk man i think the end of her loyalty mission hits a bit harder, she’s struggling with her perception of reality and what the things she learned on pragia mean about her entire life, both so far and yet to come. i have a lot of feelings about jack, man.
Tumblr media
saren
favorite thing about them: there’s a lot of things but the biggest is how like, every “cold unfeeling villain” trope bioware tried to use to make him seem evil was just an autism symptom that i also have lmfao. saren arterius is autistic, you can’t change my mind
least favorite thing about them: he’s supposed to be WHITE-PLATED he’s supposed to be “THE PALE COLOR OF BONE” DIRECT QUOTE FROM REVELATION he’s super pale off-white BONE-COLORED in the comics and his concept art but me1′s engine fucked him up and made him steel-gray and now everyone in fandom thinks he’s steel hdflsfsflslfsd
favorite line: he has one in the novels abt how he hates torture and it’s only okay if it has a purpose cause it’s brutal and messy and too cruel, which is supported when after he has to torture somebody (who was already a shitty asshole person so like) for information he shoots him to put him out of his misery because quote, “after all, he wasn’t a monster” and i feel like that’s vastly overlooked by even a lot of his so-called biggest fans and also bioware themselves in later games, he’s ruthless but he’s not cruel, he has standards
random headcanon: he has an old stuffed varren his mom got him for his 2nd birthday, who is very precious to him (cause mom died when he was 5) and if anybody other than like, himself or his brother or grandmother touches it it’s grounds to be kicked out of the apartment via the balcony at BEST
unpopular opinion: everybody who tells you he has no sense of humor and is just a stoic asshole 110% of the time is stupid and didn’t pay any attention at all. this includes pretty much all of the big names in the kryterius fandom. actually basically every fan of his vastly misunderstands him, especially the ones who think he could be convinced to romance a human.
song i associate with them: “back from the dead” by skillet [audio] [lyrics], ig if you take it literally it probably fits his brother better but like listen it’s just such a good song for an acrobatic berserker which is how i picture his fighting style
favorite picture of them: i’m gonna go ahead and assume my own fanart doesn’t count lmfao so like, his concept art fucking slaps and i’ll always be mad we didn’t get it in-game cause even tho i understand why they chose the armored look (devs said it made more sense for him to be armored as a hyper-competent spec ops agent) the sleek goth look has so much more PERSONALITY. also supports my theory that turian biotics look like lightning, thank you, have a nice day
