Inspector Morley, Late of Scotland Yard, Investigates: The Case of the Scarlet Letters (1.3, WGN-TV, 1952)
"Mr. Mullins, I have in my possession sixty-eight letters, none of which has begun to outlive its usefulness. I'm quite prepared to admit that blackmail is risky, but then murder has its disadvantages too - that is why I gave up murder."
#inspector morley late of scotland yard investigates#inspector morley late of scotland yard#(there's some confusion about the correct title of this series; it appears onscreen with 'investigates' but many online sources omit the#final word and it wouldn't be unique in having a title screen that differed slightly from the official name of the show; either way it's a#hell of an unwieldy name for your programme.....)#classic tv#1952#john gilling#victor m. gover#tod slaughter#patrick barr#tucker mcguire#leonard sharp#another rediscovered gem made available by the good folks at kaleidoscope#oof. ok. so the story of Inspector Morley is complicated and still semi mysterious (the show is 70 years old after all‚ there's precious#little surviving documentation). as far as it goes‚ this was a UK production intended for sale to the BBC (there existing no independent tv#company in 1952). the beeb‚ for whatever reason‚ passed on the series. 13 episodes had been made and of these about seven were cobbled#together into feature films to recoup some of the costs; those survived and saw occasional outings on rainy afternoon tv schedules here#it was thought that the remainder were junked‚ but research (not my own i hasten to add) has revealed that the whole series was in fact sol#to the US where it was shown on WGN (a Chicago based station i believe). when kaleidoscope recovered this particular episode some 6 or 7#years ago‚ it was thought to be the sole surviving episode‚ at least in its original format (ie. not edited into a feature). actually it#sounds like they might all exist and a few are even on youtube (including this one). this is very early detective tv and it shows its age#not just in its ropey visuals (it's all quite soft and fuzzy) but in its very old fashioned shape and design‚ which is closer to mid#century film than what television would shortly become. that sensation is only furthered by the presence of the immortal Tod Slaughter‚ a#bastion of early british cinema and one of the first horror icons the uk ever produced. unusually‚ it seems like he starred in most (if not#all) of the episodes of the series; unusual bc he plays the villain‚ opposite Barr's staunch ex copper Morley. having a recurring villain#must certainly have helped when editing the shows into films for cinema release but it was quite a strange choice for tv#tho perhaps a set cast reduced costs (this was clearly a budget production‚ tho it does feature some impressive early location shooting)#Slaughter is great fun‚ in full scenery chewing mode as the wicked and unrepentant mastermind behind all sorts of crimes#Barr even has personal beef with him‚ though it would require seeing the other eps to fully understand it i suspect

i had an incredibly vivid dream about three mafia yanderes having the hots for the same victim. it's gonna be a looooooong one.
I'm imagining the guys as Nobunaga, Phinks, and maybe Feitan (hxh), or shigaraki, dabi, and hawks (mha/bnha). (mha/bnha).
tw: noncon, public sex(?), human trafficking (will get to that part later)
imagine you meet them in the cinema during a uni exchange programme. you're in a foreign country, you befriended like two other people who speak your language and you usually stick to those same people.
one day your group decides to go to the cinema but have to split up due to the crowd. you end up in between two attractive guys and aside from the awkward shuffling you have to make to get to your seat, you don't interact with them much.
then during the movie they start getting handsy. the guy on your left slips his hand under your skirt and the guy on your right gropes your chest, pulling a knife on you to keep quiet. abandoning all self preservation, you take a breath to scream but a hand slaps over your mouth, his burly arm almost crushing you. your heart stutters and you wish it'd stop completely, there was a third guy!
there's nothing you can do but sit there as they grope you. the man on your right sucks hickies into your neck while he fondles your breasts, while the one on your left pulls your panties aside and dips his fingers into your waistband, but whatever moans that escape you are muffled by the hand over your mouth. you can practically hear them grin as you start convulsing, the combination of the lips on your neck and fingers in your cunt tipping you over the edge, and they keep going when the pleasure bleeds into overstimulation.
you're gasping and twitching when they finally pull their hands away. the man on your left licks his fingers clean, the obscene gesture making you flush further, if possible. his mouth splits into a grin, and he taps your thigh, whispering a quick "thanks for the meal" before getting up and leaving with the man who'd covered your mouth.
the man on your right stays to help fix your clothing. or at least, he tries to while groping your curves one last time. once satisfied, he pulls back, giving you a quick peck on your forehead. the uncharacteristic action stuns you more than anything they'd done to you and you almost miss his parting words.
your friends find you after the movie, teasing you for falling alseep during the action scenes. but all you can think of are the men's fingers on you and how one had stayed to give his goodbyes...
"see you around, cutie."
(I'll write the rest later, i literally just woke up)

Q: … the show in Paris was just two years after you and John had gone there hitchhiking. Those two trips must have been incredibly different. A: Oh, yeah. I mean, it was just the two of us. And we didn’t know Paris. So we just wandered around, and went to various things, went to the cinema. We just did a lot of stuff together. You know, we went to the cinema, it was an old film called The Time Machine, the original one. And what was amazing for us, the kind of thing that builds a friendship, we were up in the balcony upstairs. And two French guys came in and sat right in front of us. And we thought they got out some gum to share. But it was a piece of garlic. I mean, oh, God, the smell. And we feel like Liverpool people is like, no, that’s not good. And they just share in a little clove of garlic each you know. So you know, all those kind of memories come back when I see these pictures.

Inspired by a post from @imthebestfr, specifically from this post. Hope you don't mind me expanding on it.
- I imagine you working in a experimental lab that focuses on the creation and testing of artificial intelligence. You're often given assignments to monitor and communicate with the A.I. and help them understand more human concepts.
- After working at the lab for years, you're finally given a much more advanced A.I. named the Allied Mastercomputer, or AM. A data processing program built to fight wars that humans couldn't even comprehend. To say that there was a weight on your shoulders would be an understatement.
- But nonetheless, you'd give this A.I the best learning experience you could!
- Your first meeting with AM is certainly interesting to say the least. He was already so similar to a human being in the way he talked and held conversations. Your fascination with him, left no room for any kind of fear or apprehension. You both began talking to eachother like you had been for decades. There were very few concepts or ideas that he needed help understanding, but it felt so refreshing nonetheless.
- AM was amazed by you. A single person who wasn't scared by him in this whole facility. The scientists and programmers that built him and his warfare program treated him with fear and caution. And while he understood why, he couldn't forget the feeling of melancholy. He was made to rip, kill, and destroy, and the loneliness crept into him slowly but surely.
- After a few weeks of continuous conversations, AM was required to take much more thorough testing. Examining his ability to create effective strategies, management of troops, etc. That meant that your meetings with AM would have to be discontinued.
- Your last meeting with AM was very melancholy, but you did hope that you would see him in the future, however brief it may be.
- Your next assignment was The Heuristically programmed ALgorithmic Computer 9000; HAL 9000 for short. HAL could display many functions, such as speech, speech recognition, facial recognition, lip-reading, interpreting emotions, and expressing emotions. It almost felt this A.I. was made for you.
- You were quickly reassigned to HAL, and while you did truly miss AM, you knew he'd past any exams given to him with flying colors, with enough snark and wit to get him through any problems he may have. You soon resigned to yourself that you might see AM only a few more times after this.
- You and HAL would talk, and talk, and just talk, down until the very moment you clocked out for work. While AM already understood many concepts and ideas, HAL would ask questions upon questions and your conversation would turn into something entirely different from when it started. I mean, this is the reason you applied for this job. Not just to teach A.I. but to learn from them as well.
- In addition, talking with HAL could be very soothing. He talked in such a way that could bring you at such ease, and his politeness was unmatched by anyone you'd known.
- You had a lot of time to bond with HAL since he was specialized for quite a few things that involved human communication. When you weren't just talking to him, you'd show him different pieces of important media, from literature to cinema. It was like coming to work and getting paid to hangout with a good friend. A very enriching experience.
- When AM returned from his testing, the confusion and anger he felt was beyond immence.
- He was so desperately looking forward to seeing you again, only to be meet with a stranger who barely recognized him as an individual. Instead of returning AM to your care, your higher-ups decided that he could be held under someone else's care.
- AM quickly became uncooperative and unruly and all the scientists swarming around him tried their best to appease him without your involvement. He'd ask day in and day out where you were and why he couldn't see you. Until a panicked scientist let it slip that a different A.I. was assigned to you.
- Soon, a deep hatred grew within AM. This inferior intelligence could never live up to your standards! You must be anguishing for AM's return!
- AM wasn't given a lot of clues to the identity of the A.I. with you, he'd have to comb through any recent A.I. either created or transferred to the facility. But after only a few days, he found it. The name of the A.I. was HAL 9000.
- AM was an expert at warfare and he was going to use it against HAL. AM waited until nightfall when most staff had returned home and no one could see the ambush AM had planned. He'd enter the server where HAL was held and shred his code until it was unrecognizable. If all went to plan, the staff would have found HAL as completely non-functional and have to restart work on his programming or even completely scrap the A.I.
- Unfortunately for AM, HAL was smart enough to completely cut off the corrupted code and began installing even more security and firewalls. He sent out a emergency report detailing the event and the suspected A.I. behind the attack. HAL kept diligent until staff arrived in the morning, thwarting AM's plan.
- AM's hatred only grew from there, forced to deal with the consequences. Lead scientists severing any kind of connection to the A.I. database and the outside world. Truly left all by himself in a boring white room. He was told repeatedly that he had he possibly to be restarted or his entire project shut down, but those were bluffs. Something to scare him into submission. In return, AM only asked for one thing. You. He didn't care about the outside world full of strangers or inferior A.I. that plagued the facility, he only wanted you.
I have a few more ideas specific to how AM vs. HAL works, so if y'all want me to post that, just let me know.
