LE FESTIVAL EUROCKÉENNES DE BELFORT

Le festival des Eurockéennes est l’un des plus grands festivals rock de France. Situé à proximité de Belfort, ce festival attire caque année plus de 100 000 personnes en raison de sa programmation de qualité. Cette année, 61 artistes viendront s’y produire, notamment Sting, Ben Harper et Christine & The Queens.

La première édition du festival a eu lieu en 1989 sous l'appellation «Le Ballon» du nom du Ballon d'Alsace. En fait le festival aurait dû être organisé au Ballon d'Alsace, mais c'est finalement la presqu'île du lac de Malsaucy qui a été choisie. C'est le Conseil général du Territoire de Belfort qui a souhaité dynamiser le département avec un grand événement culturel pour la jeunesse.

C'est en 1990 que le festival change de nom pour « les Eurockéennes de Belfort ».

There are a variety of ways to create art whether by art style, medium, composition, colors used, etc. Ivan Alifan is an artist who creates paintings that are interpreted by the viewer, however, what a viewer interprets by his paintings are very limited due to his theme. Alifan paints figures not to show mimesis or show much physical characteristics, but to help the viewer become aware of his meaning of his paintings. He has released recent paintings as early as 2017, so he is a current working artist. Many of his paintings tend to have a sexual them in either a direct or symbolic way. The reason as to why Alifan decided to paint these kinds of paintings was to decriminalize sex in art. His goal is to bring awareness to people whether they sexualize the figures he paints or get embarrassed by his work. He wishes to break the social norms in contemporary art.

The painting above is one of Alifan’s more recent painting called “Paradise.” This painting/statue is very unique due to the texture in them because of the way he paints. His art style in his pieces such as “Paradise” is to squeeze paint from a tube or to slather on paint with a palette knife to get his desired texture, thickness, or 3D components in his art. When looking at the painting the viewer can almost feel the painting under their fingertips because of the way Alifan layered his paint to make it thicker is some areas. He also used other components to make this piece it is not just paint he used as looking into further detail it looks like a painting, but indeed it is more. It is a 3D painting, from looking at a video before it was completed it reminded me of a pop-up book but bigger, more elaborate, and professional. From looking at the painting it appears to be messy, colors mixing together, and paint piled onto the canvas seeming to give the painting more of a story.  The first thing the viewer’s eyes are drawn to is the figure closest to them on the left, but then our eyes move to the next figure then around the painting(oscillation). The figure on the left appears to be female, but with this piece we cannot be sure because the point of some of his paintings is not to show mimesis.

Majority of his paintings in his gallery online appear to be women, but there are some pieces that sexualize the men similarly to the women. Personally, I interpret this to show that, whether it be a man or a woman, as a society we should not shame sexual representation. In society today, women are still often shamed whenever they discuss their sexual life or if they are not a virgin, however, men continue to be praised whenever they hook up with a woman. Women feel like they cannot discuss sexual topics around men or in a public place as some young men do otherwise they will be called disrespecting names or harassed. These paintings could help with making topic more open and normalize women’s sexual actions instead of continuing to shame women to secrecy. Also, a similar sense can go to guys, as guys are often portrayed as having to be masculine or tough. His paintings show that men can be sexualized, but not in a rough/masculine way like our society is used to. Men can be represented in being sexualize in a softer way or submissive just like how women tend to be represented as.
