Sacramento/Black Art of Dance: THRIVE! will have an ENCORE PRESENTATION for this weekend only. Link in Bio! In anticipation of Sacramento/Black Art of Dance’s 30th anniversary, which will happen in 2022, we are presenting an encore of S/BAD: THRIVE!, our first virtual concert. It is our hope to establish and name a scholarship fund in honor of Founding Director, Professor Emerita Dr. Linda Goodrich to support our ongoing efforts to support artists of color and those with a desire to study Black Dance. Consider donating early! Legacy. Building. #ProfBrown #BlackDance #SBAD #scholarship #encore #performance #SacState #legacy #building (at Theatre & Dance, Sacramento State) https://www.instagram.com/p/COJwb1fLTi_/?igshid=11l0c9u368es3

One of the aspects I enjoy most about being an educator is sharing knowledge, especially to empower folks to discover more about the world and themselves. Parallel to that is how to center blackness, destabilize the rigidity of the academy through humanity while attending to the multiplicity of rigor. More voices. More perspectives. Criticality for the sake of growth, listening, equity and inclusivity. 2020 has been a challenge. An unexpected outcome has been guests traveling through time and space sharing their work with my students. We have had @julie.b.johnson speak about her work on women + incarceration in our Dunham course. We also had @mr.sargeant85 offer a master class on Trinidadian movement. And just today, @almaraz_swift gave a master class featuring social dance in Contemporary III. Though teaching dance via Zoom has not been ideal, it has opened up pathways for a different level of engagement with community. #ProfBrown #Year4 #SacState #Dunham #SocialDance #contemporary #dance #academia *The students gave permission to be posted.
