Alec - Progress
Since the last post I have been working on adding more detail to the interior of the ship. Using the concept, I have been working on adding in the details for example I have mainly been working on where the structure is indented or where it extends outward, making sure that it matches up with the concept as close as possible. The smaller details I may leave depending on how much time I have but the rest of it, such as the various circles, I will leave to creating in Substance Painter once I have finished with the modelling.
For this project I also downloaded and began learning Substance Painter alongside the modelling in preparation for the texturing part of the process. I’ve been watching various videos such as this one to make sure I have a good understanding of the software when I get to that stage.

Zmodeller Armor
The primary focus of my character design is the armor, a critical element that has led me to revisit and refine my initial concept while learning and applying new techniques. Initially, I decided to move away from the previous blockout-sculpt to stick more closely to my original design idea. This decision allowed me to better align the armor with the vision I had for the character, focusing on creating a compelling and visually impactful piece.
To achieve this, I decided to use references extensively, especially for the intricate details that are important to the armor’s design. This approach ensures that I remain true to my original concept while also working efficiently. By combining my initial sketches with detailed references, I can create a more intricate and interesting piece without straying too far from my original vision.
For the armor's base, I utilized a different model from the ZBrush library. I began with a body mesh and made modifications to achieve a more realistic female anatomy. Once I was satisfied with the anatomical adjustments, I utilized the low-poly mesh as a foundation for the armor parts. This clean topology is crucial for achieving the desired level of detail and precision in the final design.
I proceeded by extruding each armor element individually from this base model. This method allowed me to create a structured and detailed armor design while maintaining a clean topology. Following the extrusion, I used ZRemesher to refine the mesh, ensuring that the polygon flow was optimal for further detailing. Creating polygroups with the help of masks supported the addition of smaller, intricate details to the hard surface elements of the armor.
The process involved detailed work with ZRemesher, where I extruded and replaced polygons one by one. This meticulous approach resulted in a clean, well-structured topology, which is a significant part of my updated pipeline. I began with the breastplates and built up each element of the armor from this starting point. This step-by-step approach allowed me to focus on achieving high-quality results at every stage of the design.
Overall, this new process is crucial in developing the armour for my character. By integrating references and utilizing advanced techniques, I am able to stay true to my initial concept while crafting a visually striking and well-defined piece. For the leather clothing beneath the shoulder and armor, I utilized Marvelous Designer to create a realistic fabric simulation. I started by designing and simulating the leather garments, carefully pinning the fabric to the surface of the armor to ensure it draped naturally. Once the simulation was complete, I imported the garment into ZBrush for further refinement. In ZBrush, I meticulously adjusted the fabric to follow the contours of the character's body, enhancing the realism by ensuring that the leather conformed perfectly to the underlying armor and anatomy. This process allowed me to achieve a more authentic and visually cohesive look for the Valkyrie.

Development Project 01 Part 3
The uvs were done and it was time to import the low poly mesh into Substance Painter for baking. I tried baking it in two ways, using the high poly mesh and by using the normal map generated from Zbrush. I found that the bake using the normal map worked better in this case.
I decided to texture the main body, the wings, and the eyes separately. I poly-painted the wing in Zbrush and imported the texture into Substance Painter for refining. I used a single UV map for the whole body since I wanted the textures to be painted consistently throughout the body. Since this was my first time using a substance painter, I followed two tutorials during my texturing process. One was to learn the basics of Substance Painter and the other one, a tutorial on how to texture a clicker, helped in my process of hand-painting the creature. I used multiple layers with masking and curvature maps and some smart materials for a corrosive effect on the skin. I exported the textures from Substance Painter using the Unreal Engine 4 packed format.

In Unreal Engine 5, I imported the low poly models and the textures. I dragged out the models into the scene and used rect lights to make a 3-point lighting system. Since I wanted the eye to look realistic I made an eye lens material for the eyes within unreal using the refractive index of the eyes. I was able to do this by following a tutorial on YouTube.
youtube
I also created materials for the rest of the objects and applied them to the mesh. I realised that the texture was too light so I brought it back into Substance Painter to create some contrast. This is my final result.

Memories & Nostalgia - League of Legends Soraka Character Interpretation Part3
Marvellous Designer First Try Following Tutorial:
As I mentioned before, one of the challenges I took for this project was to try and learn the basics of Marvellous Designer. In order to get started, I followed some tutorials I found on YouTube. This helped me learn some of the interface and also the basic workflow of the software.
youtube
Fig.1
The result of my first tutorial:
For my first try I followed the tutorial step by step. I learned how to sew different cloth pieces and a little bit of tailoring techniques which is far more complicated than it looks. I still need to familiarize myself with the shapes of unwrapped clothes and how to brake down more complicated shapes
After the tutorials, I had my first attempt of making my design of the clothing. I got into some problems such as the topology breaking, or looking really low poly, even though I had the same settings as the tutorial. While working, I realized the problem was with the scale of my model. Because it was too small, the resolution of the cloth that I was creating was also reduced.
In order to make my design, which was a little more complicate than a T-shirt and trousers, I looked into more intermediate tutorials for reference.

These tutorials helped me understand how long fabric works and how to stylize it. There learned some really interesting tricks as well such as how to add elasticity to cloth and how to create folds.
