I pride myself on how soft and delicate my art looks, so… even though I have some followers who prefer the stark hatched lineart, it’s very daunting for me, because I feel like it detracts from the gentleness of my work. Thus, hatching is a struggle for me, which is why I refrained from trying to hatch their faces. It’s hard to get the lines to look thin enough that it doesn’t look too heavy, and to get them all going in the same direction so it doesn’t look sloppy. I also noticed the direction of the hatching should change depending on which area I’m shading. The area under Edwin’s sleeve really doesn’t look right to me, and I feel like I should’ve either refrained from hatching it at all or should have done the lines in a different direction. Most of it didn’t turn out too bad, but I do feel like I could’ve done something better with Edwin’s shirt. Maybe if I used a thinner pen and had the lines closer together. I’m super proud of their hair though, and I’m so glad their faces turned out well. Generally, as long as the faces look okay, I can be happy with the final product.

Plenty of differents stuff....

Tombow WS-BS (or WS-BH) are my bff for inking + are super waterproof for when I'm doing watercolors ❤️ same but in bigger for my PROCKEY markers by uni (water based) ✨

I'm not a big fan of alcohol based markers actually so I use this 3 brand I found in a cheap grocery store: Graph'it, Touchthree and Twinmarker (better with a layout papers)

I often use Faber Castell felt pens because bright colors + plenty of them + also water based + good texture

For the finitions, I usually use pin type Posca by uni and I stole my little cousin her signo uni-ball gel pen because... Glitter✨

You are c r u s h i n g these ink drawings. What size are you doing? Is it all just one pen or are you incorporating markers/brush for the blocking? Do you thumbnail sketch beforehand or are you driving straight in with ink?

They’re all made on A5 pages (about 14 cm x 21 cm) in a sketchbook.

I’m using a S (thin) faber castel pen for the details and a large Prockey marker for the black blocks. Most of the criss-crossing lines are made with old, nearly destroyed S pens I’m keeping just for this kind of occasion, lol

I do a rough sketch beforehand on the same page.

A different kind of “ink” drawing- I used Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils. Lined with my oil-based Prockey marker, I attempted blends with my pencils and it sets like ink once completely dry. Today’s stationary purchases from Kawaii. It’s a Japanese store that sells everything from food, homewares, cosmetics and stationary. Everything is $2.80, so it’s easy to spend quite a bit of money in there.  They didn’t have my favourite soda or any pocky this time, so this is all got. I’ve purchased the Prockey markers from there before and wanted to get more colours. I also wanted some more gel pens to add to my collection and those heart envelopes were too adorable to pass up! I plan on using the storage containers in my draws for my extra pens.

Subaru and Tsukasa from .hack//sign, painted with watercolors. I was having trouble coming up with ideas when I started this picture, which is why there are multiple parts of it that feel a little off to me. In retrospect, I wish I had found a better pose reference, because this angle makes it look like Tsukasa is a lot shorter than Subaru, but I'm pretty sure Tsukasa is supposed to be a little taller than her. I need to figure out how to draw someone leaning their head on the chest of someone shorter than them. I guess Tsukasa's knees could just be bent. Maybe he/she is sitting. While painting this, I had thought that I regretted doing the black ink on Tsukasa's shirt, since I ended up liking the flat unshaded look of most of the painted areas. But in retrospect, it doesn't look too bad! I was originally going to shade this in my usual "cel-shaded" way, but once I colored their faces, I realized I really like the flat look, so I decided to leave it mostly unshaded. Now that the picture is done, I like it better than I thought I would. That said, I hope to draw more of these two in the future, and I'm hoping I'll be more confident with the next one.

This is a character I created for one of my original stories, entitled Carkour. The story is about an extreme sport in which people compete in dangerous obstacle courses with their cars. I haven’t decided on a name for this character yet, but he might possibly be the main boy’s rival. I’m not entirely sure yet. The main boy, Kenji, is going to be brash, carefree and energetic, so I want his rival (and potential future boyfriend) to complement him well. This guy is serious, reserved and aloof. He starts off standoffish and slowly grows closer to others. I’m considering whether he would be a good match for the main boy, or if Kenji needs someone more tough and feisty as a rival. What do you guys think? The characters haven’t been popping into my head as easily as I would like, so I only really have one character set in stone, and I want to build the other characters around him, so I need to make sure the characters mesh well. Also, feel free to suggest names for this boy!
