Guess who got 30/30 on her finals’ viva 😭💃
It was the biggest adventure of my goddamn life.
The viva was scheduled at 3 pm today so I was pretty chill. I was like okay I’ll do the hardest ones till late night, grab some good sleep and wake up a little early to revise the rest.
But my university sent a mail at 10:30 pm, saying ✨surprise motherfuckers, the time is changed to 9:30 am, all the best insufferable freshers✨
Post this mail, I had made peace in accepting that I aint gonna get any sleep tonight and I had to revise 4 subjects till 8 am (minus 30 minutes to get my boogie ass ready because I will never enter the uni looking like crap and 30 more minutes to reach the university)
I started studying around 12 am because all we did was cuss the fuck out of the university and exam managers for a bloody 1.5 hours.
Considering my attention span, my study session lasted for approximately 15 minutes before I opened Pinterest and keep scrolling mindlessly until it was suddenly 2 am 🤩. Then I went for a mindless walk around the hostel, disturbed my bf for a good 15 minutes, and realised he wasn’t giving me any attention because he actually studies and uski fati padi thi so I came back in my room and re-started studying. It continued till 5 am (paired with stress eating, gossiping, watching a documentary)
THEN, I ACCIDENTALLY FELL ASLEEP AT 5 AM AND WOKE UP AT 8 AM!?!? I had to leave at 9 am so there was no bloody chance of revising Histology and Radiology that I very confidently left for the morning 🤗 I left the house at 9 and kept a ppt of histological slides open on my phone so I could at least revise SOMETHING.
If this drama was not enough, here is more :
Me and my friend had decided to pair up for the viva but some dude mishandled the list and jumbled the numbers and I had to beg my classmate to go with a random dude so me and bestie could go tgt.
As I was about to enter the viva room, a physical fight broke pit between two students and my examiner walked out to stop the fight and never returned.
I confidently wrong answered a sub question and made the doctor believe that I was right cus I answered everything else too. 10 in Anatomy ✅
Manually picked the harder examiner for Histology because bestie shat in anatomy so I wanted her to score in Histology with the easier examiner. My reactions to the first two questions- ✨ma’am I don’t know✨ and she was glaring me so bad I cannot explain y’all but then by god’s grace, she asked me more questions (redemption arc) that I answered but she gave me 7.5 so I was like okay, I did shit in the beginning so-
Next was physiology and if y’all weren’t aware of my bad reputation with the professor (George), well now you are 🤗 But then I again had a choice to choose my examiner and I chose my favourite teacher from last semester and George was like ✨why are you not sitting with me huh✨ in the most sarcastic tone ever like i would ever voluntarily chose you , kind sir.
End result, I scored full in physiology too which just proves that my physiology wasn’t a problem, George was the problem!
Last was Radiology. I was scared for my life since I slept and didn’t revise radiology AT ALL. But the examiner was impressed by my marks and gave me 2.5 🙂↕️
Now if that still wasn’t enough adventure for you, let me introduce you to my bad math skills. 7.5 in Histology + 2.5 in radiology makes 10 which meant I had scored 30/30 but my dumbass forgot math and thought I scored only 27.5 and went out a little sad.
Then a senior dude asked me how was it and I was like ‘Accha tha bas muje ek baat bata histology ke liye maximum kitna hota hai?’ And he was 7.5 and then it hit me ‘Oh bhaiii fir toh muje full mile hai’ 😭😭😭
I’m never forgetting this day. I narrated this entire thing to my mom twice, once to bf, a 30 min voice note to @hum-suffer and now on tumblr.
#desiblr#medblr#desi memes#istg the dude started laughing when my math skills were revealed 😍#Im not really proud of myself cuz a lot of people scored full ao it doesn’t fell special to me anymore tho#Kanya in med school#thanks krishna im never forgettinf how i was about to shit my pants but you helped 😗#krishna and kanya

What is a more ethical way to visit Greece in terms of lodging? Like in terms of over development in the tourist sector? Hotels or air bnb or hostiles?
That’s a good question. With the assumption that there is the budget for any of these, my recommendation is definitely:
Hotels >> Hostels >>> Airbnbs
With an ethical perspective. (With a quality perspective I would probably switch hostels with airbnbs.)
Hostels are not particularly developed in Greece. It can be an okay choice though, especially if you do not care about many amenities, you are young and don’t have too particular needs / preferences or are tight on budget. But it is 90% the lowest quality option in Greece.
Greek airbnbs can vary from mediocre to awesome and you can find okay places for very good prices. However, it is the least ethical option. Yes, it’s usually people renting a property for some more income but a) many rich people with a LOT of properties turn all of them into airbnbs or buy more and more properties to use them exclusively as airbnbs and b) Greece is one of the countries that has started facing very serious problems due to the uncontrollable expansion of airbnbs. The government is trying now to set some limitations to them. Especially the most touristy areas have huge issues since all property owners - regardless of income - turn their apartments into airbnbs, making it impossible for local people and critically important professions such as teachers and doctors to find houses on normal rent to stay. As a result they are forced to quit on their jobs and touristy yet remote places such as islands and traditional towns are left without teachers and doctors and generally suffer from an imbalance of necessary services. There are now just tourists, restaurant owners and airbnb owners frenchkissing or something there and that’s it. Sometimes, when the need for them is too bad yet people still insist on turning their houses to airbnbs, teachers and doctors end up sleeping in rooms or yards or rooftops of the local owners. That shit has turned into a dystopia. Furthermore, the rise of airbnbs has been causing big problems in cities and non-touristy areas as the cost of rent has skyrocketed (as the incentive for house owners to not make their property an airbnb) which makes it impossible for students and young people to find apartments in reasonable and affordable prices! I don’t care if anyone reading this has airbnbs and is pissed, airbnb is unethical in touristy countries!!!
Because Greece is a touristy country there is a huge variety of hotels to choose from, all quality types, all types of businesses. Greece is a country with MANY family run hotel businesses that can have great quality and can provide a cozy environment even better than airbnbs do. There are obviously also many big shark hotel chains but they are not the standard. The standard are the family run hotels. You can usually tell by the websites whether a hotel is part of a chain. For example, the Hiltons are foreign sharks. The Domotels are Greek sharks. But even so, even the sharks, honestly they do not cause a lot of problems. Usually they are expensive large hotels with all sorts of amenities, big breakfasts, nice environments.
There are some concerns about hotels lately getting overbuilt in environmentally sensitive areas but that is also the case for private properties intended to be used as airbnbs. This is something you as a tourist can’t possibly guess. But hotels - big chains or not - definitely cause fewer problems in the society compared to airbnbs.
But if you want both an ethical choice and good services opt for a small or medium sized hotel that is not part of a chain. Usually most of them are of the 3 star and the 4 star range, but you can find lower and higher as well. Those are often called boutique hotels.
Last but not least, a whopping 80% of the services sector in Greece is tourism, therefore all these people need tourists to go to hotels to make an income and help economy run smoothly. We are not talking about the sharks here, but simple owners who have to sustain the hotels, receptionists, cleaners, waiters, cooks and all other professions involved in a hotel. Let alone that the sharks employ a gazillion of people that have to make a living - gardeners, physiotherapists, gymnasts, drivers and so on. Airbnbs are antagonising that 80% of the service economy trying to steal tourism’s profit and turn it into their personal side income.
I know I didn’t have to write all this but I am passionate about this topic.

A teeny Boston fix-it fic
Had some feelings about Boston's ending (like everyone on this website), decided to channel them into fix-it fic (like half the people on this website). Please enjoy this missing scene that would have fixed everything for me had they shot it (or something like it). [Edit: A slightly amended version now lives on AO3.] New York, February 2024
The text comes while Boston is enjoying a post-fuck joint at the window of his shitty shoebox apartment in Washington Heights.
“Huh,” he says, passing the joint to the boy next to him and unlocking his phone. The guy takes a hit and blows the smoke out the window, elbows propped on the windowsill. He leans over Boston’s shoulder.
“That’s fucking cool,” he says, and it takes Boston a second to realize he means the Thai alphabet, not the fact that Boston has just received a cordial text from that shithead Mew, of all people.
“Mmm,” he says, trying to process the text. He’s high enough that he feels less relaxed and more stupid, like he’s got to parse each word individually. Mew is thanking him for the photograph he’d sent for the hostel. It looks good on the wall, he’s written.
“Anything important?” the boy next to him asks. He’s blonde, with shaggy, tousled hair, now all the more so for the way Boston had pulled it while he had him bent over his bed. They’d met at a bar not long after Boston had arrived, and now they have a nice little booty-call thing going on. The guy is a graduate student in something Boston doesn’t give a fuck about – biochemistry? bioengineering? – and he probably couldn’t find Thailand on a map, which is fine by Boston because he couldn’t find wherever this guy grew up in on a map, either. He has the vague impression of the middle of the country, something something deserts and corn. They know no one in common and have nothing in common, which is also fine by Boston. He’s learned now not to fuck anyone he might end up liking.
The only problem is that the guy’s name is Nicholas, of all things. “Nicholas or Nick,” he’d said to Boston, when he’d first sidled up to him with the promise of sex in his eyes. “I don’t care which.” Boston has never once shortened it, even though he knows his accent renders the syllables just a little bit off.
“Important?” Nicholas repeats, and Boston realizes he’s been staring at his phone screen for too long. Six weeks ago, even a month ago, when he was lonely and exhausted from operating in English all day, he would have said yes, and maybe could you get out of here, I’ve got to make a call. But now that he’s found his feet and daily life comes a bit more automatically, he’s not so sure. Mew and his sanctimony and Nick and all of Boston’s mistakes are so far away.
“Nicholas,” he says, instead of answering. “You wouldn’t catch feelings for me, would you?”
Nicholas looks alarmed. “Uhh. Look, no offense, because you seem like a cool dude, but I’m super not looking for anything serious right now. I’ve got so much work with school, and I just thought we were blowing off steam—”
Boston can’t help but laugh at his own panic reflected in someone else. “It’s good, it’s good,” he says. “Relax. That’s what I want, too.”
Nicholas takes another hit. “So what, ex-hookup texting you?”
“Ex-friend,” Boston says. “Long story.”
“Oh,” Nicholas says, nodding with the wisdom only half a joint of primo cannabis can confer. “I lost friends when I came out, too.”
Boston snorts. “It’s not that. I fucked his situationship.” He’d learned that word from another hookup a couple weeks back, and he loves it. Excellent fucking idiom. “He got a recording of it and threatened me that he’d play it for my dad –”
“The fuck?” Nicholas says. “Jesus. Dude.”
“What?” Boston says.
“That’s like, deeply fucked up.”
Boston shrugs, feeling half a step behind. “It was my fault,” he says.
“Bro,” Nicholas says. “I think that’s like, a crime.”
Boston can’t quite figure out what to say to that. He’d thought Mew was taking it too far that day, but no one else has ever suggested that Boston deserved any less.
But then, Americans are quick to tell people to fuck off. And Nicholas doesn’t have the whole story.
“He’s talking to me again,” Boston says, showing Nicholas the phone, which he can’t read so why did he just do that? “I tried to say sorry before, but he didn’t forgive me.”
“Do you forgive him?” Nicholas says. “I mean, is that ‘I’m sorry I tried to revenge porn you’ in Thai?”
“Um,” Boston says. “No?”
“Well then,” Nicholas says. “You didn’t ask me, but I’d leave that shit on read.”
Boston blinks at Mew’s text a couple of times. His head is clearing a bit. Maybe he doesn’t need, like, closure or anything. Maybe he’s a dick, but maybe his old friends are dicks, too, and maybe he can just … try not to fuck anyone’s situationship in the future. To the best of his ability.
“Yeah,” he says, putting the phone down. “Yeah, okay.”
#sorry i just needed literally one person to suggest to boston that maybe he'd been wronged too#and for boston to have his character growth not amount to nothing in the last 4 minutes#oh no i'm writing my opinions in the tags#only friends the series#only friends fic#boston only friends#only friends fix-it fic

Mr Evershed x Student!reader - personal challenge
Hiya, I love ur writing. Any chance u could do something with mr evershed x student reader who has Tourette’s. If ur not comfortable with that maybe something to do with adhd? X - Anon💜
Sitting in the classroom, you were rocking back and forth on your chair while you waited for whatever teacher it was you were supposed to have for the day.
“You’re gonna fall…” Sam whispered.
You grinned a little at her and shrugged.
“Means I get a few days off.”
She laughed and did the same as you, both of you talking about what you were going to do after school.
She decided she didn’t want to go back to the hostel, so you said she could come to yours instead since your parents were away for the week and they wouldn’t care.
You decided to talk about what to do when you both got there and what you wanted to order for dinner when Mrs Carp walked in and you groaned a little.
“What a bitch…” you mumbled.
Sam laughed and put her chair back on the floor but you didn’t.
“Put your chair on the floor (Y/N).”
“It is on the floor Miss.”
“All four legs.” She snapped.
You looked at her.
“Why? It’s not like I’m gonna be hurting anyone. Maybe myself but that’s not the point, it’s my chair, not yours. So nope.”
“I’m going to warn you once more time.” She said lowly.
You made a face at her and set your chair down and she started to teach the lesson using whatever she had been by the original teacher.
You were bored though.
Not only did you hate math, but you hated Mrs Carp too, so you were thinking of any possible way that you could get out of the class.
You mindlessly swung on your chair again, resting the back of it against the wall as you read the book in your lap.
“Do you know the answer (Y/N)?”
“What?”
“Clearly you need to be taught how to pay attention. What’s the answer?”
You looked at the math problem she put on the board and shrugged a little.
“Do I look like I know that? Seriously miss I grades would say otherwise.”
A few students snickered and watched what was going to happen next, having been in a few classes with you and the teacher they knew it wasn’t going to end well.
“It isn’t rocket science, at your age you should know this.”
“Oh at my age? And I suppose at your age you should be in a nursing home?”
“Right get out!”
You smirked happily to yourself and grabbed your bag, leaving the classroom with a sarcastic wave and started to aimlessly wonder the hallways.
It was the last lesson of the day, so you could just leave, but you wanted to wait for Sam so you just wondered.
As you were wondering, you walked past Mr Evershed who was looking for someone.
“(Y/N)?”
He turned around and watched you stop in your tracks.
“Uhm… no?”
“Aren’t you supposed to be in math?”
“Stranger danger!”
With that you took off running down the hallway and Mr Evershed just stood there confused about what he was supposed to do.
He couldn’t exactly go chasing after a student, but he also didn’t know what class you had just come from, all he knew was that you had math.
He watched you sprint around the corner, nearly crashing into a wall and he sighed to himself, pinching the bridge of his nose.
He decided to just leave you, he was sure whoever it was would email him or come speak to him so he carried on what he was doing.
And he was right Mrs Carp came to tell him what had happened and all he could do was sigh again.
“I’ll have a word with them in the morning, thank you.”
Before he became a teacher he had no clue who you were, but since becoming the acting head teacher he had heard your name so much the moment someone said it he assumed you were in trouble.
The following morning you were stood outside the gate taking to Sam while you sipped some of the drink in the van you were holding.
“Morning you two, (Y/N) can we have a word?” Mr Evershed said.
“Morning sir, I’ll see you later (Y/N).”
Sam jogged away and you looked at the headteacher.
“I will have to politely decline your request, school hasn’t started yet and I really should avoid unnecessary stress.”
“If anything going to stress you out it’s that drink, it’s not even 9 in the morning and your drinking an energy drink?”
“If it makes you feel better it’s my second one.”
“That really doesn’t make me feel better. Are we really going to stand here and wait for the bell to go?” He sighed.
You hummed a little, rocking back and forth on the skateboard as you shrugged.
“Hey, I’m here it counts for something.”
“Because you legally have to be here?”
“Yeah pretty much.” You nodded.
Mr Evershed sighed and looked at his watch, seeing you still had ten minutes before the bell went he leant against the gate and looked at you.
“So, I heard about yesterday. Want to tell me what happened?”
“No thank you.”
“(Y/N), what happened?”
“I’m gonna be real with you sir, I actually can’t even remember, but I can tell you that your tie makes you look old.”
Mr Evershed rolled his eyes at you.
“Really? We’re just asking to be placed in isolation today aren’t we?”
“Hey, outside of school. I can say whatever I want here.”
He shook his head a little and smiled.
“I don’t think I’ve ever heard so many teachers complaining about one student (Y/N), seriously, I can’t tell if I should be worried or impressed.”
“I personally think you should be impressed. Can’t be worried about something you can’t control.”
“What makes you think we can’t keep you in line?”
“I mean, I can barely keep myself in line so…”
The bell rang and you picked up your skateboard, walking through the gates and towards the reception where you were stopped from going any further.
“Drink in the bin, and my office please we still need to talk about this.”
“We have all day to talk, or if you’re fast enough you can catch me after school. Either way.”
“No, we’re going to talk now.”
You mocked what he said and finished your drink, putting the can in the bin he was holding up for you and walked into his office.
You didn’t sit down though, you simply stood up, setting your bag and skateboard on the floor as you did a little dance while you waited.
“So, wanna tell me what’s causing all these behaviour issues? I mean you’re a bright student, I’ve been your grades. Aside from math and Science you seem to be really good at everything. If you’re struggling we can put some extra help in place you know.”
“Nah that sounds like a lot more work.”
“Well, we have to do something. I need some sort of explanation (Y/N) otherwise I have to consider taking further action.”
You stood on your skateboard, rocking back and forth a little as you looked around his office.
“I have this amazing, amazing condition sir. It’s called ADHD.”
“Right, and why isn’t that in your file them?”
“Because I was diagnosed last year, haven’t got round to it I actually completely forgot.”
“Okay, so is there anything that helps with this?”
“Magic pills.”
“(Y/N).” He warned.
You snickered a little, raising your hands.
“I’m serious! I have medication that’s supposed to help with my adhd helps me concentrate and all that.”
“I’m going to take a wild guess and say you haven’t been taking them.”
“Nope! Unmedicated for the win!” You grinned.
Mr Evershed rolled his eyes at you and gestured for you to get of your skateboard which you did.
“Right I’m going to need a doctors letter, and I’m going to have a meeting with your parents. You are to be put in isolation for the day.”
“Oh fun, okay.”
“But you’re going to be spending it in my office, so I can keep an eye on you and make sure you don’t get into anymore trouble.”
“Not fun…” you mumbled.
“Skateboard please.”
You walked over and handed it to him and he put it under his desk and pointed for you to go sit at the other table.
“You’re going to be working there today, Loraine is getting you some stuff now.”
You huffed and started to pull books from his bookshelf and he just looked at you defeated knowing it was either let you do that or have you causing chaos.
“If you’re supposed to take your medication why haven’t you been taking it?” He asked.
You looked over, and went back to where you were trying to build a house out of books.
“I forgot.”
“Have you tried setting alarms to remind you?”
“Yeah, but then I forget what my alarms are for. And I also forget to set those half the time too.”
He chuckled a little and shook his head, turning back to his computer so he could finish the email he was typing up for your parents.
You got bored of trying to build a house out of books, and now you were scrolling through your phone.
“No phones during school hours.” He said.
“I get that’s your rule, but it’s a stupid one.”
“I will put you in isolation longer.”
“You wouldn’t, you’re gonna get pretty fed up of me soon.”
“Keep trying, I have kids. It’s going to take more than a hyperactive, unmedicated, student with ADHD to get the best of me.” He grinned.
You smirked, taking that as a personal challenge.
Your task for the day?
To annoy Mr Evershed so much that you prove him wrong and that you can get on his nerves

Orphic
(adj.) mysterious and entrancing; beyond ordinary understanding

Tia willows
"Wake up, lilly"
"Mhm.. five more minutes please"
Chuckling to myself, I made my way to the dresser to brush my hair and tie it up neatly. I checked the time, "it's 7:05 already. Get up in 10 minutes or else you'll be late for school."
.
.
"ELIZABETH JANE WAKE UP!"
"I'M UP, I'M UP" "Why am I paired to share a room with the head girl again?"
"Awh, don't say that li, I know you love me.
Now get your pretty ass off the bed and get ready for school."
"YES, ma'am"
"I'm readyyyy"
Lilly came out of her room singing. "Thank you now let's go, we don't wanna be late."
Locking the door of our shared bedroom, we make our way out of the hostel. I see many students leisurely walking towards the school gate and some giggling and waving goodbye to their boyfriends.
"I am so tired of seeing these bimbos and their sigma boyfriends. Why don't you complain about them?" Lilly said, frustrated.
"I can't complain about things happening outside the school premise. Either way, two more months and we will pass out so bear with it." I said with a small smile.
"I can't express how happy I am to be leaving this school."
"OH, it's not that bad."
"You say that because you're the head girl."
I simply shrugged at that and walked towards the great hall for assembly.
"Good Morning, school"
We heard the voice of our principal blaring through the speakers.
"Please take your seats all of you. I have some very exciting and important announcements to make."
The hall buzzed with excitement. It's no surprise what we were gonna be told about. It's that time of the year when school got the busiest and I've seen the previous head girls break sweat and bones because of this. Students fighting to be heard and chosen and the only time when the whole sixteen in the student council comes together to work.
"OH! the excitement in the air is making me dizzy", Principal said making some of us giggle.
"Yes, you guessed it right. Our school's annual programs' date has been selected. It will be held on the 16th of November."
The entire hall broke into loud discussions.
"Girls please settle down, I know it is a very exhilarating news. I know you all are thrilled to decide what to wear and what to do. But before that I need to-"
"GIRLS SETTLE DOWN" the voice of our vice-principle roared out. And in an instant, the voices of the students died down and hall became silent.
"Thank you, Mrs. Pataudi."
"No problem, Mrs. Allen."
" So as I was saying, the number of events haven't been chosen yet. The student council will sit today with the teachers to decide the number of events and participants. The head girl and deputy head boy has to meet Mrs. Hawkins after the first period to discuss about the upcoming fest"
I gave Zahir, my deputy head, a slight nod.
"That will be it, have a good day and God bless you" Saying this, our principal walked down the podium whislt talking to the other teachers and walked out of the teacher's-door.
Me as well as the rest of the student council stood up to go stand infront of the hall doors to assist the students out in proper line and check their uniform for anything incorrect.
As the last student walked out of the door, I turned to the rest of the council members and told them to meet me and Zahir during the break.
We walked out and I went up to get my books from the locker. Walking inside my first class, I spotted Lilly chatting away with Zara and Merlin.
"Good morning Ms. Head girl."
"Good morning girls"
I sat beside Lilly and they filled me in about their latest gossip.
"I heard there's a new girl coming." Zara whispered.
"There's only 5 months left for finals, Now??? Will she be able to catch up?" Lilly said, surprised.
" She was being home schooled by the our teachers which technically means she has been a part of this institution. But news says she was recovering from a disease that's why she could not physically come to school" I said with a knowing look. I did not know her name but being the head girl has its perks.
"You knew?? How could you not tell us?" Lilly said with a look of disbelief.
"I did not think it was important."
"How could-"
Lilly was cut off as the rest of us saw our class teacher entering.
"Morning class, please sit, I am running low on time so, if one of the prefects could please take the attendance and hand me the list later, I would be grateful"
Before I could response, a sharp voice said "I will do it. No worries"
"Thank you so much, Amora."
"And I wanted to introduce you all to your new classmate. But she is stuck in the principals office filling some paperwork. Where is our head girl? Oh there, sweetheart could you please come with me to the principals office and take the new girl for a school tour?"
"Of course, ma'am."
"Thank you class. Have a good day."
As I walked out of the class with Mrs. Chow, we could hear the class erupt into chatter and laughter.
"The students will have a field day with all the teachers busy with fest work" Mrs. Chow said with a hint of smile.
Nearing the teacher's room, she turned around and said "You will find her inside principal ma'ams' room"
With a nod and a small bow I made my way to the principals room.
Just as I was about to enter the room, the door opened making me and the other person bump and all the papers in their hand flew all of the place.
Both of us bent down to pick and arrange the papers
"I am so so sorry" I apologised.
" No it's not completely your fault. I'm sorry too" said a sweet voice. I looked up to see a very pretty girl of my age smiling down at me.
I stood up and handed the papers to her. "I'm guessing you're the new girl?"
The girl smiled and with her hand extended said, "Yes You're right. Hi, I am Ifra Lateez. Are you the head girl?"
I took a hold of her hand and said,
" Hello I'm Tia Willows, the head girl of The Agatha Highs"
~
Hi lovelies. This is the first chapter, more like the introduction of the female lead of the series. I hope you liked it. The next chapter will be the introduction of the male lead. Please like and comment. I love you all. Bye <3

CHALLENGES THROUGHOUT BEING A COLLEGE STUDENT.

After my SPM’s life ended, I chose KPTM as my next destination for my diploma’s journey. My parents also hope that my new life as a college student going well and reach my goal in the future. Furthermore, I am the eldest and only daughter of my two younger brothers. I need to show them that I can survive and finish my diploma with flying colors. Once I got there on July 13, I felt excited to study there and meet with many friends from different states. This was also my first experience staying in a hostel far from home. I am able to learn new things as a dormitory resident and how to spend time wisely for my daily routine alone without my parent's guidance.
A few days passed, and I heard unexpected events happen inside and outside our hostel. I am not familiar yet with these new environments and new people's surroundings. Too many incidents and problems at the same time. I was a bit scared that the same things would happen to me in the future. However, I stayed positive and kept myself from doing useless things. I never told my parents about those things that happened to avoid them from worrying about my condition and safety. I just told them what am I doing, have I had eaten or not, and always updated my activities either with my mom or my dad. Sometimes I will make video calls and talk with them whenever I am bored or I have something to share.
A couple of months passed by, and thank goodness I started to get comfortable with my surroundings and explore new things ahead. One of the biggest challenges that I needed to face up until now was the devices that I used in my studies. Since, I was little my parents never taught me to use these kinds of things because they said it could waste my time from studying. Until I finished secondary school, my dad gave me permission to use my mom’s old for me to use it during college until now. It gives me a lot of patience to face all because of the problem the phone had after I used it. Such as, it always restarts itself and black screen for a long time. However, I learned that not everyone can afford gadgets because of family income and so on.
In conclusion, I learned that as a student there are many challenges that need to be faced on my own, especially since I live far away from my parents. I also learned to be more independent and feel difficult like my parents used to.

Weekly Journal #1 : Meeting my online friend in college.
It was the first time I had stepped into my college life, and I only recognized one person—let’s call her Amira. Amira is an online friend I met during the pandemic. We got to know each other through the same group. She has a nice and cheerful personality that makes it easy for everyone to become friends with her. So, it was a coincidence that we ended up at the same college and became roommates! I was excited to finally meet my first online friend in person. However, I now wish I could go back in time and never have asked her to be my roommate, or even my friend.
On the day we moved into the hostel, it was chaotic with so many students starting their college journey. Still, I waited for her to arrive so we could be roommates. She even asked another person, who was alone, to join us—let's call her Hana. Coincidentally, Hana and I are from the same place, Pahang. Hana isn’t shy at all and can easily hold a conversation, while I’m more of an introvert, so Amira did most of the talking for us. Looking back, I wish Amira hadn’t dragged Hana into being our roommate.
After we unpacked and settled in, we spent some time getting to know each other. The next day was orientation day, and we had to wake up at exactly 4 AM—it was really exhausting. But the orientation itself was exciting! We met new friends along the way, as Amira, being talkative, easily connected with others. While it’s not necessarily bad to talk a lot, it becomes a problem when you talk too much. People start to see you as annoying or a busybody. At first, I didn’t mind because I’m not the type to start conversations, but Amira, on the other hand, had no problem constantly bragging, Especially about herself.

New Zealand Part 1 (Week 11)
One of the beautiful things about studying at UNSW is that during week 6 of our studies, we get a flexibility week where the majority of courses don’t hold class and students are given the chance to catch up with schoolwork, get ahead, or do nothing and just relax! My hostel-mates and I knew about this opportunity from the day we got here, so a big trip was always in the works. We even knew that we all wanted to spend the time in New Zealand. The only problem? There’s 18 of us living in the hostel together and we’ve had enough trouble planning trips for just 5 or 6 people, let alone 18. Everyone had a different vision of what a trip to New Zealand could look like between camping, or renting cars and staying in AirBnBs, or living out of campervans. Needless to say, the trip planning was procrastinated all through the 4 weeks of summer and another 4 weeks of term 1. Once in a while someone would say, “Guys, we really have to plan this. Plane tickets are getting expensive!” and they’d be met with more approval and support than a professor who has suggested extending a homework deadline. But, as expected with our group, no action would be taken. Until one person sits down and buys themself a roundtrip flight to New Zealand, nobody is going anywhere. Soon enough, after intense procrastination and discussion, tickets were bought, plans were made, the group of 14 (four couldn’t make it) had divided into two campervans and two cars (who would be staying in AirBnBs), and I was sitting on a plane to Queenstown.

^^ Landing in Queenstown
Queenstown may not be among New Zealand’s 20 largest cities, but it is renowned for its adventure sports and stunning scenery, earning it the nickname "Adventure Capital of the World," as my friend Elizabeth would say. Our adventures in Queenstown, however, were put on hold until the end of the trip as we had a road trip planned that would take us up north to Christchurch and then back down to the Adventure Capital. So, on our first day there we picked up our car rentals and headed to Fiordland National Park for a quick hike. The greenest plants, mossiest rocks, and most colorful mushrooms riddled the paths and made our short hike one of the most memorable.

^^ Some New Zealand Flora
I also felt a lot safer hiking in New Zealand compared to Australia. New Zealand has none of the snakes that Australia is infamous for and has an almost negligible amount of dangerous spiders compared to the numbers Australia boasts! With our glow worm cave tour waiting for us in Te Anau, we had to get back on the road quickly. Lucky for us, there are worse places to be driving than one of the most naturally beautiful countries in the world where mountains surround you in every direction and lakes bluer than the sky itself pop up out of the blue (pun intended) every few moments. We weren’t allowed to take pictures in the glow worm caves, but imagine yourself sitting on a boat in a pitch black cave with little blue/green specks scattering the ceiling. That was pretty much it! It was interesting to learn about the glow worms themselves – they glow brighter the hungrier they are (to better attract flies) and they’re actually larvae, not worms, so they just need to survive long enough to turn into gnats and reproduce. You may be wondering why I’m sharing so much detail about random worms. Well, as a recent trivia night attendee (two weeks in a row), I see every random fact as a future topic in trivia. You can thank me later.

^^ Just the average roadside view while driving along the west side of the South Island!
Milford Sound was next on the list. Just a two hour drive from Te Anau with the option of a bus service to shuttle you there and back, Milford Sound is a large fiord stretching 9 miles (or, 15 km should I say) to the open sea. Once there, a boat cruise takes you down to the ocean and back while passing waterfalls, dramatic cliffs, and some popular scuba diving destinations. Milford Sound was highly recommended as an activity on our itinerary, and it truly lived up to the hype! From the stops on the bus ride to the scenic cruise, I was in a constant state of awe that I will never forget. The rest of the trip was just as exciting, but I’ll cover it in the next post! Until then, Cheers!

Vacation of an Economic student
The semester was over, mid-summer vacations were just around the corner and I was very excited to go back home after a long time I was going to meet my parents, friends, and my cousins. I didn’t even realize how fast the initial days of my vacation went and my holiday was almost over. One sunny morning of mid-summer I stood ready for the new day. Holding a warm cup of coffee I glanced at my schedule for the next few days wondering whether I should extend my holiday or go back to my hostel sooner so I can study for the next semester. It was very difficult to choose because I didn’t want to leave my hometown so early but at the same time, my studies were important as well. The trade-off between the two made me think more practically and I decided to start studying from where I was now; my hometown. This was suggested by my mom which I find quite thoughtful because I can be productive as well as enjoy my last days of vacation.
I was so dwelled in my thoughts about making the right decision that I didn’t even realize my coffee was finished. It was 9:30 already and I was late for the movie so I had to give up my breakfast or else I would have missed the movie. The movie was finished and it was almost afternoon and I had no food in my stomach then I realized that the cost of my hunger was way too much to reach on time at the movie theatre. As I was hungry I decided to go to the old Italian café where I and my friends used to hang out when we all were younger but now everyone is busy with their studies. Reaching there the manager quickly recognized me and asked me how I was. It was quite unexpected to see that the manager remembered me after so many years.
The manager offered me a free lunch for that day out of his kindness to his old customers. I was filled with joy and food after I left the café It was late afternoon at the moment and I had to buy some notebooks and stationary for my next semester so I went to the place where they sold academic things at the wholesale rate, the market economy of that place favored the customers and the sellers as well at some extent. The sun started to go down indicating it was going to get dusk soon and it was time for me to meet my old friends after a long time. I opened my phone to book a cab but I was not quite sure whether I should take an Uber or Ola and then I noticed that there was an offer on Uber; quite like an incentive which led me to book an Uber cab instead of Ola, the driver arrived and I left for my friend’s house. In the middle of my ride, the driver pointed out that he had to fill the petrol in his car so we went to the nearest petrol station. There was a long line of cars and bikes waiting to fill up with petrol. The liter meter above the station showed that it was almost out of petrol but we still waited for an hour-long queue just to find out that they ran out of petrol. We had to wait for another 30 minutes so that they could refill the pump with petrol from the truck. This short incident showed me the reason for the high petrol prices, it was because petroleum was scarce and the quantity demanded was increasing day by day. It is necessary for us to understand that we have to use petrol very efficiently. We can do that by minimizing the use of petrol by traveling by public transport instead of traveling alone in your 4 wheeler or maybe doing a car-pool. Anyway, after wasting 1hr 30mins, I requested the driver to drive a little faster as I was late. I reached at my friend’s house 45 minutes late, everyone was waiting for me. At first, I was not able to recognize his house. There were many marginal changes here and there in his living room which made it look like a whole new living room.
We had a nice time with each other, everybody discussed the problems they faced at their new university. Some said that they had a hard time making new friends while others couldn’t adapt to the new climate change and food. I had somewhat similar problems that my friends were going through, I wasn’t able to adapt to the humid climate, it also affected my skin and it took me a couple of days to make new friends. Our conversations slowly drifted towards our younger days when everything was way easier and simpler, We cherished our childhood memories when we all used to travel, eat, and enjoy together but now everything has changed and no one has time to meet each other. After we finished talking, everybody wanted to dance and sing so we had a nice dancing and singing session, soon Everyone was hungry so we decided to order food at his house instead of going out to eat which was planned initially. After a long discussion about what should we eat, we finally decided to order pizza. I was low-key flabbergasted when I saw the bill because the price was too high as compared to how it was 2 years earlier or so; the prices were almost 10% more. After a long wait, the pizza finally arrived and we realized it was not going to satisfy everyone’s hunger, The quantity of pizza we were expecting was not up to the mark but the taste of the pizza was surprisingly good and everyone loved it. As we were still hungry we decided to go to an ice cream parlor which was near my friend’s house. It was a privately owned ice cream parlor that was famous in the whole colony which gave him the authority to alter the prices in his favor kind of like a monopolistic competition, but the prices were reasonable so everyone preferred to go to that ice cream parlor instead of other parlors in the colony.
So after eating ice cream everybody was satisfied and full, it was time for me to leave because I wanted to start studying the next morning. The stars and the moon illuminated the night, street lamps lit up the streets with warm yellow lights. One of my friends was going to drop me off at my place but at the last moment, he backed off because he wanted to stay at our friend’s house for the night. Due to his actions, I had to book a cab and leave. His actions acted like an external cause because of which I had to suffer. Anyway, I reached home quite late because Uber took a lot of time for booking a cab for me as it was night. I was very exhausted today, even though the day was very joyful and filled with adventures. I wanted to remember this day so I jotted down the whole day in my personal diary. I learned so many things today like breakfast is the most important meal in our day and we should try not to skip it, also it felt very nice meeting my old friends, I used to miss them a lot before when I was in Delhi for my undergraduate program; I feel it is very important for us to take some free time every six months from our busy and hectic schedule to meet our old friends because according to me it is the purest form of friendship that we should never let go where as the friendship we make when we get old are temporary in most cases, thinking all of these made me very sleepy so I fell asleep earlier than usual after all I had to fix my sleep schedule as well. I could see that soon my vacation was going to get over and my college was going to get started. Again I was going to leave my home and return to my hostel for the next semester. Even though I was sad I felt quite excited about the new chapter in my life, new experiences, and new friends I was going to meet, I was very happy and content with the experience I had on this vacation, especially today’s day because I could notice so many economic concepts which I could relate to, these concepts were invisible to me before I studied economics. My interest in economics has increased since this vacation, now I can now see economics being used in every day-to-day aspect of life. I feel that economics is a subject that is very necessary to learn because it helps us to survive in the world in the most efficient way possible.

1. Ghar Ka Khana is Free from Harmful Additives
Most restaurant and packaged foods contain preservatives, artificial flavors, and unhealthy fats that can harm your body over time. These additives may cause digestive problems, obesity, and even long-term health issues.
Benefit: Homemade meals are prepared with fresh ingredients, without harmful chemicals.
2. Packed with Essential Nutrients
Home-cooked meals are naturally rich in vitamins, minerals, and proteins because they are made with fresh vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. In contrast, junk food lacks essential nutrients, leading to low energy levels and poor immunity.
✔ Tip: Eating a balanced diet at home can boost your metabolism and keep your body strong.
3. Supports Mental Health and Reduces Stress
Did you know that the food you eat affects your mental well-being? Research shows that a nutrient-rich diet can help reduce anxiety, improve mood, and enhance brain function.
Why? Home-cooked meals contain omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants that promote brain health and emotional stability.

4. Controlled Portion Sizes Help with Weight Management
When you eat outside, it’s hard to control portions, leading to overeating and weight gain. Homemade food allows you to adjust portion sizes and include more fiber, protein, and healthy fats, which help maintain a healthy weight.
Health Tip: Serve food in smaller plates to naturally reduce calorie intake.
5. Strengthens Family Bonds and Creates Happiness
Eating ghar ka khana together with family or friends creates a sense of belonging and happiness. Studies show that sharing meals reduces stress, improves communication, and strengthens relationships.
Fact: Families who eat together regularly are healthier and happier!
6. Supports Digestion and Gut Health
Home-cooked meals are usually prepared with fresh spices, herbs, and fiber-rich ingredients, which promote good digestion and a healthy gut. On the other hand, processed foods often cause bloating, acidity, and stomach discomfort.
Better Choice: Eat more whole grains, fresh vegetables, and fermented foods like yogurt for better digestion.
