DBZ Thoughts: Yamcha Deserved Better

So I got into Dragonball because I grudgingly watched Kai on Nicktoons with my brother. My complaints became faker as the Frieza saga thickened and before I knew it, I fell in love with the series. Sometime later, I discovered Dragonball and watched that series as well. I think I watched GT after DB.

Since I watched DBZ first, I cared little for the human characters. I liked Piccolo because of his relationship with Gohan. And I enjoyed Krillin in the Namek/Frieza saga and I felt sad when he died. But I didn't really CARE. Tien and Yamcha were afterthoughts. I thought Chiaotzu was lame and a waste of space. All I cared about were the Saiyans.

But then I watched Dragonball and I fell in love with the human characters. So much magic and wonder. I like DBZ but Dragonball hits differently.

Anyway, I liked Yamcha. Was never a huge fan but I have really begun to feel sorry for the guy especially since my love for Vegebul has kind of faded a bit. I admit that even in the height of my Vegebul fanfic days as a teenage girl, I felt super uncomfortable or annoyed reading fics where Yamcha was painted as a loser, abuser or cheater. I hated how fanfic writers treated Yamcha like trash to make Vegeta look better. People out here trying to make Yamcha into a monster to make Vegeta, the guy who beat on Gohan in the previous two sagas and killed a village of Namekians with sadistic glee, look good :(. Now that I look back on it, I was reading trash!

Intro aside, I wanted to reflect on some ways that Yamcha could have been treated better in the series (DB and DBZ). I think Yamcha is a great character already and he does not need to be a bloodthirsty Saiyan to be amazing...but just some small things that could give him some more wins.

Dragonball: Yamcha vs Tien as the semi-finals fight

Yamcha's fight showcased Tien's cruelty. Roshi's fight symbolized the older generation being surpassed by the younger. But would the story change all that much if the fights were switched? Give Yamcha a chance to make it to the semis and use it as a storytelling device to show that Yamcha is catching up to Roshi as well. I think the story could have been even stronger if Tien was shown to surpass the older generation but then showed his cruelty.

DBZ: Bulma & Yamcha's breakup ending more amicably

I HATE how many Vegebul fans treat Yamcha. Yamcha is a good man and Bulma was always the abusive and unfaithful one in the relationship. I was not a huge Bulma fan in DB. Honestly, I don't think I truly liked Bulma until she got with Vegeta and became a mom. Anyway, why is it necessary to paint Yamcha as a cheater to pave the way for Vegebul? There are many ways for people to break up! The breakup could be a mutual thing where they decide they are better as friends (just look at their sibling vibe in the Buu saga). Maybe Future Trunks' arrival causes Yamcha to be more insistent on marriage and family and Bulma does not feel ready for the commitment. Maybe Yamcha walks away because he can't stand Bulma being friendly with the guy responsible for his murder. So many ways to paint Yamcha, and even Bulma, in a better light so that Yamcha does not look like the loser beta male who lost in the love triangle.

God I fucking hate Vegeta so fucking much holy shit. Holy shit, every frame he's in, every scene, every gif, every jpeg, he's got this painfully smug, stupid as shit, fuckass look on his stupid scrunkly face. Absolutely no part of his ugly as sin piece of shit character design is endearing. His stupid fucking hairline? Who the hell makes a "bad boy" boy friend of the main girl with a hairline like that. His dumb short ass stumpy legs? His shitty, lumpy bastard head? The three thousand percent unnecessary dumbass shitass fucking POINTY HAIR STANDING UP IN ONE DIRECTION that no Saiyan has EVER FUCKING HAD IN tHE HISTORY OF GOD'S GREEN FUCKING EARTH? God, I hate him. I hate him so much. So FUCKING much. Every time I see a stuffed toy Vegeta or an Vegeta gif or a shitty goddamn anime clip, it ignites my primal rage response and I'm overcome by the need to punt this shitty little homunculus into the fucking sun. "Bhurr blur, I'm Vegeta the fuckshit monkey fucker, I am the prince of all Saiyans ". Fuck you. Fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you. You look like the grumpy troll from trolls world tour summoned a patronus. Your dumb fucking twig hair makes your whole shitty head look like a hairy skin tag. I hate your dumb fucking creased forehead and your stupid, empty souless eyes and your over-the-top douchey ass arrogant asshole personality. Any scene he's sad it invokes all the wrath and fury of a spoiled child having a meltdown over a chocolate bar in a w*lmart checkout line. And I know its irrational. That's the worst part. I know he's just a shitty fucking side character in a stupid fucking Shonen anime, I know it doesn't matter, I know I shouldn't care. But that's part of the problem. The part where no matter the might and fury of my hatred, the locus of my homicidal intent is alltogether inconsequential. I find myself laying awake in the dark in the early hours of the morning consumed by the spirit of Wrath itself, all the force and might of a flaming hurricane directed at a bottle of piss in a ditch by the highway. The absurdity of it all burns me to my core. What better things could this energy be directed towards? And yet my disdain for this stupid, useless, insubstantial failure of endearing character design utterly eclipses the intrigue of all other pursuits. I hate him. I hate him on a level of my mind reserved for the worst of the world's array of sinners, and I can't even begin to justify it. Shitstick the Prince of all shitfucks is, for all intents and purposes, the animated corpse of all of humanity's saccharine pretenses- every condescending, passive-aggressive statement of meaningless upper middle class suburban drama distilled into a single, hateable form. The fucking. Fuck. I have no words. There is no cuss or epithet in any language that can encapsulate the height of the emotions I am experiencing. God, I hate him so much. I hate him so, so fucking much. I want to light his ugly little dumpster body on fire. I want to graphically beat him to death with his own stupid fucking scouter. I want to punch him to death. You know that weird feeling you get, when you see a picture of something so cute you find yourself overcome with the bizarre, inexplicable urge to squeeze it? It's EXACTLY like that, except instead of cuteness it's disgust. The wordless knowledge that his existence as a fictional work is evidence of all the failures of mankind. I find myself possessed by the will of a Holy Angel gone rogue with the belief that God has made a mistake, and I alone must correct it. This is the trial by which Samael himself fell from grace. This wild, meaningless rage. A thousand blades of shining steel cast with inhuman force in the direction of a plastic grocery bag floating on a breeze. What horrors must I have committed in a past life to be plagued by this torment now? I must Unmake this fictional alien

Fusion Revived - CH 2 (You Again)

➤ This story is actually complete (finished Sep 2021) over on my Ao3 already; I'm just publishing it here on tumblr too for archival purposes. I hope any and all curious readers enjoy if they haven't checked it out yet!

SUMMARY: Majin Buu has been destroyed, and the Earth has known peace for close to a year now. Life hasn't been too peaceful for the person responsible for saving the world and the entire universe however, but when an ordinary woman meets him one day, things start to change.

RATING: Teen and Up. PAIRING(S): Vegito x OC/Reader, alluded Gochi, alluded Vegebul CONTENT: Canon Divergence, Slow Burn, Friends to Lovers, Family Drama CW(s) THIS CHAPTER: None.

She liked going for walks around the countryside. Some might think it’s foolish for a woman to live basically out in the middle of nowhere on her own, but the pros of she not having to deal with noisy neighbors or other human aggravations made it worthwhile. As did the beauty of nature that surrounded her.

It was a shame she couldn’t be completely independent from society though. She wasn’t knowledgeable enough on how to grow her own food or make her own clothing, and she was too dependent on luxuries like internet to go without them. Having heating, running water, and electricity was also very nice.

Her job out in the city thankfully wasn’t a huge pain to travel to or from, it paid well, and it itself wasn’t something that demanded she invest all of her time and energy into. She worked her absolute hardest during her shift, but outside of it, she gave anything related to work little attention.

Today was her day off, and she chose to spend it outside. Enjoying the pleasant weather and temperatures, she kept her eyes aimed at the sky, watching a group of birds pass by. There was something else in the sky that caught her attention, and after taking a moment to look closely, she could see it wasn’t another bird.

It was a person. She could make out that they had quite the impressive head of spiky hair.

She gaped up at them, unsure if she was just imagining things, but then they suddenly descended from the sky. Too nosy to just ignore what she witnessed, the woman quickly trekked towards the location they dropped down in. When she got there, she was face to face with someone she frankly thought she wouldn’t see again after their meeting a handful of days ago.

His face held a rather introspective expression, but it faded when he saw her appear over the hilltop. Recognition had his face lighten.

“You…weren’t you that apple woman from before?”

“Apple woman?” Of all things she could’ve expected him to call her, that wasn’t one of them. She tsked, crossing her arms. Now that he was standing this time instead of sitting, she took note that he was about a foot taller than her, but she wouldn’t allow that subtle intimidation factor to work.

“I have a name.”

“Oh?” That smirk of his was back, and one of his gloved hands came up to rest on his waist. The amusement that bled into his outlandish voice wasn’t missed by her.

“What is it then?”

She knew she should be cautious when it came to strangers. It was unwise to give your name to one, but in this instance, an idea came to her. She was far too curious about this man for her own good.

“I’ll tell you mine, if you tell me yours. First.”

“Aren’t you bold?”

He chuckled. Thanks to their close proximity to one another, behind his curled lips she could see the elongated canines of his teeth. A feeling of uncertainty had her confidence waver.

“Vegito.”

“…Huh?” She blinked.

“My name is Vegito.” He scrutinized her, for her reaction surely. He may have found it to be lack luster, as she only gave him an impassive stare and nothing more.

He was like a mystery box that just kept giving. She couldn’t determine if his name meant something specific in another language, or if it meant anything at all, but at least she wouldn’t forget it. Vegito…

“_____…”

His eyes widened ever so lightly. Before he could possibly comment on her name, she moved onto something more pressing.

“How were you doing that?”

“Doing what?”

“Floating in the sky.” Her gaze flicked up to it.

“Oh, that?” Smugness joined his playful demeanor, as he looked down at her with onyx eyes that sparkled with a certain light.

“I can fly. Nothing more to it.”

“…Fly?” This evoked a reaction. Shock erased her frown, and her arms went limp at her sides.

“Yes, fly. You know, what most birds and many insects can do.”

“I know what flying is.” She hissed, but unaffected by her irritation, Vegito snickered.

“How were you doing it?” Unlike flying birds and insects, he had no wings that she could see.

Silence was his initial response. The intensity of his gaze was truthfully unnerving, and even though she wouldn’t admit that, the woman felt herself starting to sweat.

“Before I can answer that…I must ask you this. Do you know what ki is?”

She wondered why that was relevant to the discussion, but she saw no harm in it.

“Yes. It’s supposed to be the life force of all living beings, or something like that.”

“You’re right.” Vegito was visibly surprised, not expecting her to be somewhat knowledgeable of the concept. She felt a small amount of pride at having managed to get that cocky look off of his face, if only briefly.

“Where did you learn of it?”

“I’ve looked into martial arts.” Pieces were starting to connect. Vegito wearing a gi made sense; he must have been a martial artist himself. It helped explained why he was so ripped at least.

“I don’t practice any though. Just read about some things that interested me.”

“I see….well, ki is the energy that our spirits naturally emit, but the strength of it varies from person to person. You can channel it, and use it in a variety of ways. One way, is by flying.”

That sounded far-fetched, but she wasn’t ignorant. Unlike a lot of humans out in the world, she knew there was more to things than what met the eye. Like this spiky-haired, fanged man here.

“How do you use ki to fly? Do you have it carry you?”

“Close. To cut a long explanation short: you force your ki underneath you to push yourself upwards. It generates lift, similar to what rotor blades do for a helicopter.”

“Really? That sounds…complicated…”

“Eh, it’s not. Anyone with sufficient ki and control of it can fly. Even children.”

The day she sees a child flying through the sky is the day she might question existence itself, but for Vegito, he was likely speaking from personal experience.

“I think you can learn how to fly. You’re strong enough at the bare minimum.”

“…Strong enough? Like, my ki is?” She quirked a brow. Vegito didn’t seem to be pulling her leg, but then again, she couldn’t be utterly sure. “How can you tell?”

His smirk returned with a strength that made her want to roll her eyes.

“I can sense ki.”

Sense it? How in the world was that done? Her head was starting to hurt.

“But I can teach you how to fly if you want _____. I’ve been pretty bored lately, and I don’t mind imparting knowledge onto someone else.”

He leaned forward, and the excitement upon his face was blatant. In the moment, he was like a child who couldn’t wait to do something fun. The abrupt innocence in his smile was…jarring, and she was at a lost for words. She was saved by a buzzing noise that cut through the air then, and an object vibrating in her pocket. She reached down into it to pull out her phone.

Checking the screen, she sees that she received a text message. It was from one of her co-workers, asking her to…come into the office in an hour? For a favor?

The rush of anger had her exhale a puff of air out of her nose.

 “I have to go. I’ll…take a rain check on that flying lesson.”

She turned on her heel to stomp away, furiously typing out a reply on her phone’s screen. Vegito watched her leave, slightly disappointed that his offer wasn’t accepted, but he shook if off. Standing straight, a hand went to his chin as he thought about one particular thing.

He was oddly motivated. This irritable lady has been a new spark, among his dull days…he felt like bothering her more, just for a little while longer.

🌸 I always remember shipping characters in movies and so on, but probably the first ship that made me go AAAAAAH even before I knew what shipping was, must have been the VegeBul (Vegeta x Bulma) from Dragon Ball, their dynamic always seemed fun and cute to me and I found myself thinking about them in scenarios outside of the series and well, yes, they did things to my brain jdjdjjx

🌸 OH BOY!! AU IDEAS FOR RINHARU ARE ALWAYS SPINNING IN MY HEAD CONSTANTLY BUT, here are two of those that are always present in the back of my mind :

Kiki's Delivery Service AU: I LITERALLY HAVE THE ENTIRE STORY VISUALIZED IN MY HEAD WITH A RINHARU TWIST, Explaining broadly, Haruka would be taking the role of Kiki and Rin Tombo's, but differently, Haruka is within the time limit in which he can complete his witch training (and they practically force him to go), he doesnt know what he wants, he likes swimming and flying but He doesn't have a dream or goal, and well, Rin... Rin has too many dreams. In the AU it would also include Nagisa, Reí and Makoto (Makoto is Haru's cat, aka the only reasonable being around him ). The truth is that I have so many details about this AU because I have a fic that has this concept with like two chapters published (I have more written in draft, but I haven't edited them)

Mexican AU: Where I let my deepest headcanons come to light and create a universe where Haruka's family has a seafood restaurant, Rin went to the United States in search of the damn American dream and the entire history of Free! It is developed with some third world changes in the Mexico Mágico style AAAHSHHDHHD (Rin knows how to dance cumbias like a pro) (this is actually more of an AU of Free! in general, but the story that has formed in my head focuses mostly on Rinharu lol)

Rant incoming... Because I don’t understand some lies I read at all?

I really don’t like spending time on this kinda of discourse so I will keep this the shortest as I can...

Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, MHA, Bleach (or any other popular shounen if you will) are NOT sexist they are battle mangas and guess what they are.. SHOUNENS? Why some people go all their way to accuse mangakas, CREATORS to be sexist just for the solely reason they didn’t met your very specific expectations and your every single “demand”?

No I am very tired, because it makes little to no sense, it reminds me of high school when some friends of mine would complain about shoujo having romance? and mostly focusing on female characters? FOR REAL it’s the same energy and makes no sense now I won’t break down each non sense I have to heard or read because I am not into discussion but this is something I need to speak my mind on (btw I won’t answer replies if you wanna say something my ask is open but you know wtv)

first I am gonna adress Kishimoto because he is so kind nice and humble and he does not deserve this nonsense he is a good author with flaws OBVIOUSLY but in general he is good! I am tired and it became old already Kishimoto is really not sexist stop making accusations without evidence (where did you take he hate women? this has no basis he never showed disrespect ever), the biggest flaw from Kishi in my point of view is not giving other characters, other than Naruto and Sasuke, much focus and this includes the female characters lets say Ino for example gurl... I respect her SO MUCH and everytime someone make a complain about her I laugh because it is just about natural things or perks on her personality which makes her HUMAN I think she is a very natural and compelling character I did reblog some posts that highlight her very greatness and keep in mind she is a side characters! her team for me is more interesting than many main teams  ~personal taste blabla~ also same for Tsunade, this woman is a beast she is so much the figure of respect in Naruto and I, as a woman, find her very VERY excelent her story and her highlight moments were short but so impactful even her romance with Dan made few pages was great (same for Ino and Sai! what a 1000/10 couple and both are so good characters...) her solution was well written she is strong without “magical eyes” or beasts... Now my main problem with Kishimoto is on a matter of focus, now I wanna thank the Hinata and Sakura fans because they already defend these amazing ladies so much so I will save it from now but for me Hinata and Sakura are the shape and soul of Konoha future, hope and peace too! Just as much as their husbands!

Let’s go for Bleach now, Tite Kubo might be a little interesting, I appreciate that he defends his work so much because if you dislike something so much just write your own thing right? every author should just say this ~ lol his female characters ARE very strong and have a lot of focus, Rukia and Orihime were more remarkable (FOR ME, as a reader anyone is free to feel different in this matter) than Ichigo and other male characters I think only Aizen have the same love (from me) lmao but enough this lets jump to the part where people mess up, you can dislike a character and a manga as much as you want but don’t lie the popular statement of “Orihime is useless only says kurosaki kun!1″ is so annoying and wrong I won’t even... I mean Orihime literally have one of the greatest powers in the series even freaking AIZEN took interest on her powers?? Why?? Even?? Disregard?? That?? it is so hate for the sake of hate. And we all know how strong many female characters on Bleach are but it’s so fun how all this hate is driven to Orihime and in the end all the female characters get bashed even tho none of them are weak, this is tiresome (and the fandom can kinda be contradictory here)

about Dragon Ball oh boy, this one tires me A LOT I srsly feel tired just typing rn, we have freakin BULMA her presence alone in the universe of the manga is even more than relevant, yeah she starts funny (I have no problem with her earlier character) but she matured and she became even better but lets never forget how she was always relevant?! Her strenght relies on being the most realiable and efficient character in the entire series rather than punch power super explosions ~~ etc she is just a fearless, independent, smartest (and don’t forget also the cutest! ~lmao i love her~) character in the entire series, and we have Android 18 a extremely strong character, ChiChi is a very strong woman she CHOSE TO BE A MOTHER AND A HOUSEWIFE btw this applies to all animes or media... And don’t even get me start on Videl... People pretend to be accepting but be judgin female character just for being a mother and staying home like? srsly? this is not the only thing they do! Videl and ChiChi are STRONG 

BEING A HOUSEWIFE AND MOTHER ARE NOT WEAKNESS AT ALL and thats the end of story, all people who put this trait down are just so zzzZzzZZ more of the same average complainer...

anyways, I will just leave it here, btw I am not saying you should love every manga every character hell I have dropped many mangas and animes because they didn’t suited me and I didn’t spend my time hating on them... I am saying that at least keep this honest! Don’t lie, don’t put fingers accusing author of this and that just because it didn’t specific meet your very expectations okay? 

if you dislike the way something is done or written you can always read/watch something else! lucky us to have so many things to choose!

Artist’s Spotlight - Steorie

Drum roll, please!! It is my great pleasure to introduce as our first artist interviewed in this new series, the one, the only, Steph aka @steorie! Do you want to know more about one of the most prolific artists in the fandom, the one behind several fandom-famous fanart (including our lovely icon)? Then wait no more! Enjoy her interview (and go follow her, in the odd chance you don’t already).

S: Ok, uhm, where to start? 😆 I’m a tattoo artist from Germany and try everything to get my studio going right now. Other than that I’m either reading or drawing in my free time. I’m boring like that.

GT: How did you become a tattoo artist?

S: Oh my, I kinda stumbled into this. I was very unhappy with my job back at the time and a friend of mine (who is heavily tattooed) said that if I can draw I could tattoo it too. (which isn’t all that easy in the end 😅) But yea, I went and started an apprenticeship in a studio for a few months, then quit my job and started working as a tattoo artist full time. And I’ve been doing that for a good 3 1/2 years now.

GT: Has it paid off?

S: Oh most definitely. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. :)

GT: I gather you've always been artistic. Did you take any art classes or just practiced by yourself?

S: I never went to an art school. I just have always been drawing since I can remember. :) I love watching livestreams of other ppl drawing/creating things, though. I learnt a lot that way.

GT: Do you remember when you started doing fanart? Or at least doing it consciously?

S: Hmm, I think proper fanart that wasn’t some horrible doodles where no one could see what it was supposed to be, might be fanart for sailor moon and dragon ball. 😌 Think I was around 11/12? But I’m not really sure though. 😅

GT: Hahaha I'm sure your doodles were still great. But omg, two of my favorite animes! Who are your favourite characters on them?

S: Usagi and Rei. <3 their friendship was everything to me. I also love Vegeta! I have a soft spot for mean looking ppl with a big heart. ❤️

GT: Love Rei! I'm an Aries like her, so I had something to relate to her. And I love love love Vegeta, though my favorite is Trunks. But Vegebul remains one of my favorite ships.

Do you remember your first ships ever on any show?

S: Vegeta and Bulma are one of my all time fav OTPs. Also Seiya and Usagi are I think, my first ever ship, back when I didn’t even know what shipping was. 😆

GT: Nice to know we have two OTPs in common! What are some of your other ships? Do you still make fanart for them as well?

S: I dont have a lot of shows that im invested in THAT much that i have the urge to draw fanart for it. But im still madly in love with Agron and Nasir from the Starz Show Spartacus. (Everyone needs to watch this tbh!)

Another one of my first otps in a show are Michael and Maria from the original Roswell Show back in the 2000. They had the best chemistry too. :)

GT: How would you describe your fanart style?

S: Uh…oh my, let me think. 😆🤔I’m a big ol romantic deep down in my heart. lol I guess that shows in my style? Also I love bright colors. I want people to start smiling when they see my art. 🙈❤️

GT: I would say the colors definitely are your most easily recognizable attribute!

Walk us through your process, please.

S: I have to admit that I never do any sketches tbh. I just start directly with the lineart once I got inspired with an idea and go for it. I mostly do digital art. I work on an iPad Pro and use the procreate app. I have a lot of back and forth going on when I start to color. I use lots of different layers and settings and fool around with the colors and filters until I like what I see. Oh my gosh, I’m so bad at explaining. In the end I just BS my way through art and hope for the best. 

GT: And what does inspire you? Where do you get your idea from?

S: I mostly get inspired by the show itself. But there are so many mindblowing fanfictions out there as well that constantly give me ideas. Also music and the lyrics of songs I love. :)

GT: How often do you start a new piece? And, on average, how long does it take you to complete it?

S: I usually don’t work on more than one piece at a time. I need to focus on one and don’t want to work on anything else before I finish the current drawing. I usually need a week, maybe two? Depends on how detailed the drawing is going to be, if I’m going to color it, if I will add a background and so on. :) My submission for the Gallavich zine (which you guys will hopefully hold in your hands soonish!) took me about 28 hours for example.

GT: Wow! That's dedication! And it shows.

Do you take prompts? What about commissions?

S: I don’t have enough time for requests. :( but I do take commissions from time to time if I can manage it next to my main job. :)

GT: What are some of your own favorite Gallavich fanarts?

S: Definitely the one you are using as an icon right now. And maybe one I did back in 2014 when I first started watching the show. It’s of them from season one, sharing a smoke in their winter coats. :)

GT: They're both great! And once more, thank you for letting me use your art as an icon.

What are some of the other people in the fandom you admire?

Anyone goes, not only here either, and not just artists.

Oh, there are so many talented people out who make the fandom such a special place. Let me think for a second.

Art wise I’m in love with Lulu‘s (@luluxa​) painting. The way she colors her pieces is absolute art goals. So very impressive. Also she adds so many details and makes it such an experience to look at her art. Phenomenal!c❤️ I also adore Mitchell’s (@psychicskulldamage​) art! His chibi comics are sooooo freaking adorable and funny! The style is also so unique and it brings me so much joy whenever he shares something new. ☺️💓

Another huge inspiration and talent I admire is Gray (@gallavichy​). Her stories just go straight to my heart and I have taken a lot of inspiration for drawings from her stories. The emotions she inflicted in me with her writing is unbelievable.

There are so many more ppl who needs to be mentioned but these three immediately come to mind. :)

GT: When did you first start watching Shameless?

S: I started back in 2014, when season 4 aired.

GT: And what attracted you to Ian and Mickey's relationship?

S: Well, first of all, the chemistry between Noel and Cam is just sooo good and they are both so amazing together. It’s so much fun to see them together on screen. I fell in love with Ian and Mickey’s teasing, bickering and how they fought so hard at such a young age to be together, in whatever way they could be at certain times. The connection they shared, even if they were apart and couldn’t be with each other, it was always obvious to them that they were each other’s person though. And that fascinated me and I was in deep. :’)

GT: Did you join the fandom right away? How was the fandom back then different from now?

S: Omg it’s been so long. 😂 I was still very much into Spartacus at the time and only sloooooowly stepped into shameless. But the fandom was immediately so very welcoming and supportive, I was in deep quickly. lol I would say the fandom hasn’t changed much? At least from what I experienced. Still lots of amazing art, stories, discussions and memes going around, next to ppl fighting tooth and nail about certain topics. 😅 We are a lot of very passionate people, so it never gets boring. 😆❤️

GT: Truly.

You mentioned the fandom being welcoming and supportive. Have the comments on your art always been positive?

S: Surprisingly, yes! The art I made during s4-5 for shameless is still my most popular shameless related stuff, if we take a look at the notes at least. It really blew my mind.

GT: Let's go back to Shameless. What's your favorite season of the show?

S: I would have to say season 4. It was just phenomenal. From the acting, to the story telling, to the whole mood of the season. I was just so invested in everyone's storyline. Frank and his failing liver, Fiona in jail and how she endangered Liam, Debs slowly becoming a young woman, SHEILA, even Sammi was fun to watch and her storyline with Frank really got to me, how she showered him and was there to bring his drinking buddies from the alibi to Sheila’s house when he was too weak to make it there on his own. Of course I don’t have to mention how brilliant yet gut wrenching Ian and Mickey’s journey throughout the season was. Just chefs kiss on all fronts.

GT: I just love Sheila.

Do you have a favorite episode and/or scene?

S: I mean my fav episode has to be 10.12. :)

GT: I think we all collectively died when we watched that!

What did you think of the ending? 

S: Tbh, yes. As far as it concerns only Mickey and Ian. (I didn’t like all the endless open endings for everyone else though) Their future looks so bright right now. I couldn’t ask for more. I’m sure they will have a good, sweet life together. <3

GT: Do you have any headcanons for their future?

S: I’m sure, they will expand their business as they mentioned in 11.10. Hire some guys, buy more cars and so on. I could imagine them each doing something different later on though and only function as the bosses of the transport business. I hope Ian can work in the EMT, nurse field again somehow? And as for Mickey, I could see him do more with his passion for art. Maybe he will work as a tattoo artist himself one day. 😆❤️

GT: I agree, I'd also love for Ian to go back to being an EMT, he was actually good at it. And hell yes to tattoo artist Mickey!

S: Other than that I think they will eventually move back to the South Side again, maybe buy a house? And I hope they are gonna travel together once their probation is over. See the world and everything it has to offer. :’) Maybe visit Mandy, wherever she is and then Fiona in Florida.

GT: I so wish they'd at least mentioned Mandy again!

If you could go back and change one thing in canon, what would it be?

S: I think I wouldn’t change anything? Well, obviously I wish I could undo any harm ever done to them, but that’s not how it works. Yea, I think I wouldn’t change a thing storytelling wise. I would have wanted to see them on THE date. No matter which season but it would have been some nice fanservice if they had shown them at sizzlers or something else on a date. ☺️

Okay wait.

Ian sleeping with that woman in season 7. Cause I think he was always sure about his sexuality and it was kind of unnecessary? (You could maybe link it back to his bipolar and him being kinda already a bit unbalanced after the fight with Caleb and maybe his meds didn’t work properly anymore, but even then I’m not that sure he would have done it?)

GT: What's the most challenging thing about creating fanart about them?

S: It’s the coloring for me. I can do lineart for hours and hours but once it’s time for color I’m like …lmao

GT: And what's the most fun part?

S: Oh definitely the hair.❤ I loooooove drawing hair. And Ian's and Mickey's are kinda unique, which makes it even more fun. 😊

GT: What are your favorite themes of tropes to draw?

S: Uh, I don’t have any? 😳

GT: Hahah, that's ok. Great, actually. But are there any themes or tropes you won't do?

S: Uh, I dunno…do you have examples of what kind of tropes are out there?😅

GT: Well, for instance, I know you didn't use to make smut art until very recently. What made you decide to go for it? (not that we're complaining)

S: Ah, i get it now. Well, I’m still very picky about nsfw stuff. I usually prefer to leave some things to the imagination, you know. But i kinda got bored a bit, drawing always the same kinda stuff and you can learn so much about anatomy if you draw ppl being intimate with each other! 😆 So yea,i learnt once again to never say never.

GT: Hahah

About about future works. Do you have any WIPs or ideas for future art?

S: I have a few things I wanna draw (but so little time.) I also work on a fun commission right now. If ppl are interested in WIPS or something like that, I sometimes post WIP stuff on my twitter. :)

How I Can’t Live Without Apple/ A Drabble

Welcome back!

This week I’ve been hard at work remodelling Chapter Two of my Vegebulocracy Summer Prompt Challenge and while it isn’t complete yet, I feel like it has vastly benefited from the rewrite - it’s most definitely hotter!

Also, I had to return my work iPad Pro earlier in the week :( I’d borrowed it temporarily to see how the digital drawing felt on it. Turned out it’s pretty damn good and blew me away with how natural it felt. Sadly, it needed deploying elsewhere in the business which left me without the comfort of its Apple-y goodness.

That’s where Amazon stepped in! See this weekend, Amazon have been preparing for the Prime Day sales including electronics like iPads. Also this weekend, most of the high street electronics stores are slashing their prices to compete with the online giant.

Turns out I couldn’t live without my portable sketchbook, notebook, streaming device so I managed to snag myself a deal - ended up saving about £50.

Anyway, to the main event of this update!

Zutara Antis Don't Know What a Toxic Relationship Actually Is

I just saw a Vegebul fan Tumblr user say that Vegebul can't be compared to Zutara because Zutara is toxic and Bulma was not trying to fix Vegeta🤡

As a Vegebul fan, I will proudly say without shame that this Tumblr user is an idiot with no brain. I am tired of seeing stupidity on Tumblr. In what world can you say that Zutara is toxic yet spew nonsense that Vegebul of all DBZ ships is healthier! Vegeta is the same man who was willing to let his baby mama and infant son die and nearly killed his wife when he decided family life was making him too soft in the Buu saga. Zuko was never the level of villain Vegeta was and never treated Katara that badly even when he was her effing enemy!!! 🤡

When has Vegeta ever supported Bulma the way Zuko supported Katara???

Unlike Bulma, Katara WOULD NEVER get with Zuko and spread her legs while he was still an antagonist and wanted to capture Aang!

Katara would never get with a guy who threatened to kill her and showed no sign of remorse either!!!

As for Bulma was not trying to fix Vegeta...so true! She gave him free housing, free food, free training equipment and free sex while he was still an egotistical bastard! She never calls him out for his horrible behaviour (eg. letting Cell become perfect and attacking her future son) or being a less-than-decent dad for Trunks. What a woman!

When has Vegeta ever shown any on-screen attempts to reconcile with Bulma for his hurtful actions? Unlike Vegeta, Zuko had to work for it! On-screen!!! For all of us to see Katara chew him out!!!

Every day I am amazed at Zutara antis who call Zutara toxic. Here is a guy who wronged and hurt a girl in the past that:

redeems himself and atones

proactively works to earn her forgiveness

provides emotional support and lets her be emotionally vulnerable

willing to be emotionally open with her

never lashes out even when she attacks him

sacrifices himself for her

works hard to redeem his nation that oppressed her people

genuinely cares about her and believes in her abilities

actively befriends and makes amends with all her loved ones whom he also hurt (which includes a possible love interest)

ALL ON SCREEN! No hand-waving his past hurtful actions or having character relationship development off-screen. No enabling of bad behaviour. Vegebul needed almost ten years to be a truly healthy relationship. Zuko only needed a few episodes for him and Katara to become great friends. Zutara >>> Vegebul.

In what world is this TOXIC?? Sounds pretty healthy to me! I want a Zuko for a husband (minus the enemy part lol). Who would choose Vegeta over Zuko for a love interest?? Well, I guess some people dig deadbeat husbands ;)

Both Vegebul and Zutara started off on bad terms and both shows ended with both pairs having a great relationship. The difference is that Vegebul began as a toxic relationship vs Zutara having a healthy dynamic once they became friends when Katara forgave Zuko. Zutara never had any romantic dealings while they were enemies. And even when Katara was rightfully antagonistic towards Zuko, Zutara treated each other better than Vegeta did Bulma. Just compare Katara saving a falling Zuko vs Vegeta who did nothing to save Trunks and Bulma.

Disinterpretation

I finally finished the Sarah Z video about “pro vs. anti”.   It’s pretty long, and I ended up watching it in chunks over several days, but I think it’s worth watching, especially if you’re sort of partially connected to online fandom, but not enough to be aware of all the lingo. 

As I expected, the whole thing was vague and confusing because the people involved in the conflict made it vague and confusing.   In theory, the full terms would be “pro-shipping” and “anti-shipping”, but it seems like it’s more about particular kinds of ships that could be considered controversial.  But that’s a slippery slope, and apparently the whole conflict mutated into both sides deciding that every hypothetical relationship between fictional characters is either equally valid or equally dangerous.  

Long story short, it’s just purity culture, which was what everyone on Tumblr was calling it around 2012.  But now, if you’re a sane person who genuinely asks: “Who gives a fuck about Voltron?”, these people will jump your ass and accuse you of being on the side of their enemies.  “Children have died over the importance of Lotor/Hagger!   Your callous indifference proves that you yourself must have murdered children!” 

I think what Sarah Z really hit upon in this video was that media consumption has become so ingrained in our culture that people feel like it has to go hand-in-hand with our morality.   That is, it’s not enough for me to watch Star Trek, I have to justify Star Trek as evidence that I’m a good person.  Maybe this is where the expression “guilty pleasure” comes from.   Conversely, it’s not enough for me to not watch Dr. Who, I have to somehow convince everyone that Dr. Who was invented by the devil.

I’m pretty sure the Reylo ship has a lot to do with this, since it’s kind of understood to be a dark, problematic concept, and fans either embrace its flaws or recoil in horror because of them.   Star Wars itself is a dumb story about space wizards, so people try to give the debate more weight by linking it to freedom of self expression and/or enabling real world harm.   Suddenly it’s not enough to just think two actors would look cute making out instead of fighting.   Now it’s this battlefield for the soul of civilization or something.

I grew up in the 80′s, when “concerned parents” and grifters would accuse the Smurfs and metal bands of promoting satanism and witchcraft.   I used to hear stories of teens going out into the woods in the middle of the night to do occult stuff, and all I could ever think about was: “Why would anyone bother wandering out in the woods in the middle of the night?”  Which is why “concerned parents” turned their attention to things that were closer to home, like Saturday morning cartoons.   It had nothing to do with the content; it was just about finding a safe, accessible target for their hysteria.   Some people want to go on a crusade without leaving the house, so they pick a fight with Papa Smurf instead of confronting the real evils in the world.  Even as a kid, I knew this was a con, because I’d watched the show for myself and knew it was too saccharine to be threat to anyone.

The pro/anti folks have tried to disguise this with a lot of terminology.   I wondered why they seemed to reluctant to use the full terms “pro-shipper” and “anti-shipper”, and it’s probably a couple of things.   First, the word “shipper” is basically an admission that this is pointless bullshit that doesn’t matter, and they’d like to avoid that connotation.   Second, they seem to have decided that this goes beyond shipping itself, into practically anything else they want it to involve.  It’s all part of the con, which is to make you believe that it’s “us vs. them”, and you can be part of “us” by curating specific attitudes about Steven Universe.

Seriously, “about Steven Universe” is such an incredible punchline.  You can make anything funnier by adding those three words to the end of a sentence.   “Do not interact if you blog about Steven Universe.”   “Hey, what’s up, YouTube, this is SSJ3RyokoLover69, and this is going to be kind of a serious video about Steven Universe.”   “Mrs. Johnson, the results of your biopsy are in, and I have some bad news about Steven Universe.”   It’s a fucking kids show.   “Oh no, all the characters look like the characters in all the other kids shows!”   Yeah, that’s because it’s a kids show.   Marvin looks like Garfield, this isn’t new.

The common denominator here seems to be that both sides try to wrap themselves in the flag of vulnerable groups: impressionable minors, trauma survivors, harassment victims, etc.   The “pros” want to protect those people so that they can feel free to explore weird subject matter on their own terms, and the “antis” want to protect the same people from being exposed to weird subject matter that they might not want to see.   It’s all about establishing a moral high ground.   Back in the day, it was called “sanctimony”. 

But people get roped into this, because at their core, people want approval, and this stupid conflict offers them a sense of community.  As long as you support the cause, whatever it may be, you’ll have this online friend network that appears to support anything you do.   But if you deviate from their norm, you’ll be cast out.    Does this sound familiar?

To use a more familiar example, I still sometimes find people clamoring about Gochi vs. Vegebul.   I’ve never understood this, because both ships were canon, and I never saw much direct evidence of a war between them, but people would still talk about how crazy the Vegebul shippers were, and how crazy the Gochi shippers were, and it was like some huge thing going on just over the hills.   It’s the same idea, since the idea that you could like both or neither never seems to occur to anyone involved.   I never gave a shit, because I used to see the same dumb agendas in the Harry Potter fandom.

Okay, so let me take you back.  It’s 2005 through 2011, and I’m hateblogging all seven Harry Potter novels, because fuck you, that’s why.  The funny thing I encountered was that occasionally fans seemed to want to pretend like my bashing of certain characters was proving them right somehow.    They were like “See?  He hates Ron Weasley too!  That proves that Seamus Finnegan is the coolest guy ever.”   The Slytherin stans would do this all the time, because I would constantly take the piss out of the Gryffindor characters for being self-important dopes.   I think they just liked hearing it from an outside perspective.   But I had to keep reminding them all that I hated all of them.   Every character from Harry Potter sucks ass. Voldemort was my favorite, but only because he was the one guy who wanted to kill all of the others.   But he sucks too because he failed. 

And the shippers were the same way.   I’d say something shitty about Ron, because Ron sucks, and some smartass Joss Whedon fan would be like “Yes!  Boost the signal!  That is why Harry/Hermione is the best ship!”  And I’d be like “No, Harry and Hermione suck at least as bad as Ron does.  They’re all terrible and I hate them.”   I really do think there was some sort of Stockholm Syndrome going on with Harry Potter books, where everyone secretly knows they suck, but the fans sort of latch on to one or two characters and go like “Well, he’s not as shitty as the rest.”   Like finding spaghetti in the trash and picking out the meatball with the least amount of lint on it.   Then you’d go and start a flamewar with some other starving person over whether your meatball is shittier than theirs.  This is what people mean when they say to read another book. 

Anyway, the big thing I picked up from Sarah Z’s video is “disinterpretation”, a term coined by MSNBC columnis Zeeshan Aleem.   The Twitter thread is worth a read, but the short version is that he once remarked that a Julia Louis-Dreyfus routine wasn’t very good, and someone got mad at him for insinuating that women are incapable of being funny.    They just took his dissatisfaction with one performance by one comedian as being a universal condemnation of women comedians in general.  And this sort of thing is all over the internet.   Everyone sees what they want to see and then they take it as permission to overreact.  

I ran into this myself a while back, because someone saw who I interacted with on Twitter and decided that they’re all bad guys and if I have any interaction with them, then that makes me a bad guy too.   At the time I tried to play it cool, but the more I think about it, the more it ticks me off.   And over the course of that conversation, it was said that I don’t talk about myself much, and that’s kind of funny, because all I ever do on social media is write long-ass blog posts like this one.  I don’t expect anyone to memorize them, or even read them all the way through, but when I write all this stuff and someone goes out of their way to say they don’t know anything about me, the message is that they just didn’t pay attention to what I was saying, and they didn’t bother to try.

So I’m a little jaded from that, because I got called out for a bunch of stuff I didn’t even do or say, and apparently that’s just a thing that happens.   People will reject you for completely arbitrary reasons, not because of anything you actually said or did, and you’re left thinking you made some terrible mistake.   Except, no, I’ve seen it happen to other people, people a lore more conscientious than I am, and if they can’t satisfy the bullshit purity standards, then I never stood a chance.   If the game is rigged so I can’t win, then I’m not going to play.  

And it’s that same condition that probably draws people into these online holy wars, because if you declare yourself for the pro or anti side, at least then you’ll have a posse backing you up.   Only they don’t support you, they support your willingness to support them.    Once your commitment to their agenda wavers, even in the slightest, they will turn against you.   

Sarah Z suggests that both sides of the war drop the pro and anti terms, since they lost all meaning long ago.   But that just invites a new set of useless terms to perpetuate the same cycle.   Her more useful advice is for fandom people to broaden their horizons.   She got a lot of flak for tweeting “Go outside” once, but the ironic thing is that it’s sound advice.   I had lunch with my mom yesterday and it was just nice getting away from things for a while.   People need to do that more often, and unfortunately it feels like it’s harder to do than ever before.

But “go outside” isn’t just a literal thing.   It can mean going beyond your usual haunts, reading the same books, watching the same shows, rehashing the same conversations.   I think the reason this stuff always revolves around “shipping” is because there seems to be this deep-seated compulsion to pair fictional characters off like this, and for a lot of folks it’s the only way they can consume a story, so they do.   And they do it lot, and there’s a lot of them, and they do it the same way every time, and lo and behold the same old conflicts start up.   So maybe “go outside” should mean “go outside of that cycle once in a while.”   Just a thought.

VegeBul and Sasusaku are nothing alike.

I dislike when SS fans compare their ship to Vegebul, trying to make their ship look better by saying they are alike feels insulting to Vegebul, these ships are so different there is basically nothing truly in common between them.

Here are 10 differences that would make it clear how different these ships really are:

1. Bulma can be harsh when necessary with Vegeta (he doesn’t mind) she is also supportive of his training, they understand each other and have a dynamic of 2 people that love and respect each other. Compared to that Sakura blushes and becomes embarrassed every time Sasuke is mentioned or is nearby. she acts like his admirer and not like his wife, Sasuke isn’t even around to know how he acts around Sakura but from what is shown he treats her more as a comrade then a wife.

2. Vegeta actually loves Bulma and he shows it, when she is hurt he not only get’s extremely angry at the one who hurt her he unlocks new powers from it and shows how much she means to him. - Compared to Sasuke who hasn’t shown much concern towards Sakura even when she is kidnapped or hurt by the enemy (in Naruto gaiden) also Sasuke never could unlock any new powers for her anywhere in the manga.(curse seal doesn’t count as it is not his power and Sasuke would of reacted the same if it was Naruto or Kakashi hurt, because of his fear of losing his family again.)

3. Bulma would never get angry with Trunks for asking questions about their dad and their relationship. Compared to Sakura who destroys her own house out of anger because Sarada only questioned the nature of Sakura and Sasuke relationship which she had every reason to do so.

4. Vegeta would never leave his family side when they need him shown when he was offered to go to do what he loves to do fight (in the tournament of power) but he refused because he wanted to be there for his wife and see his child born. - Compared to Sasuke who leaves Sakura and Sarada for years (8-12) never writing them, and doesn’t even recognize his own daughter;s face when he meets her, you can say he is doing it to protect the world but not contacting them is not excused and his mission is crap and makes no sense anyway, you can’t deal with an enemy that hasn’t and might never appear, he could of just waited in the village and dealt with it as they showed up like what actually ended up happening anyway..

 5. Vegebul was confirmed to have kissed by Vegeta by being surprised that Goku has never kissed his wife. - compared to the implication of Sasusaku to have never kissed by Sakura’s avoidance of answering a simple yes or no question and ending up deflecting the answer, later she got nothing from Sasuke at the end of gaiden, not even a head poke or a hug.

6. Sakura doesn’t remember if Sasuke ever wore glasses, Sasuke is unsure if Sakura can treat her own injuries when he asks: “you can heal the wound yourself now right?” (talking about her injury in gaiden).showing how little they actually know about each other - compared to that Vegeta and Bulma know each other well enough to know when something is wrong or happened to one another (that is how you show you’re feeling are connected) and I will be surprised if they didn’t know such common knowledge about each other.

Sasuke was good at the beginning and he betrayed the leaf especially Naruto and Sakura and Kakashi for vengeance, he cut away the people who loved him and eventually turned on them completely, then tried to kill them  even when they cared about him still. he only decided to stop his dark ways because he lost to Naruto both in combat and will power and decided to support Naruto’s idealism, Sakura had zero influence on his change. - Compared to that Vegeta started out as a bad guy he never knew Bulma when he attacked earth, after he changed sides (against frieza)  and gotten to know and married Bulma he never truly betrayed her or planet earth, he was brain washed in the majin buu arc but he resisted it and eventually showed how much he truly changed and cared for his family by sacrificing his life to save the world, Bulma and Trunks did have a big effect on his choices to become a better person and to protect earth.

8. Vegebul happened after a time skip but it was foreshadowed at the end of planet namek arc when they returned to earth, and was confirmed with future Trunks appearance, considering Dragon ball never really had a romance sub plot it was all that necessary to establish their relationship - Compared to that Naruto had many one sided romantic sub plots, Sasusaku was one of those one sided relationships and it has turned into a cliche and should of ended at the end of part 1,  but part 2 had other plans and it developed in a  very negative way, with Sasuke almost killing Sakura at least  twice putting her in a cruel genjutsu and not caring about her. Sakura also gave up on saving him at one point or she thought killing him = saving him depends on who you ask. She also lost trust in him after he tried killing her. Sasuke also stated he is not interested, she should of taken the hint and moved on but she still chases after him hoping for scraps of affection that never come making her look pathetic.

9. In terms of personality Vegeta can be hard to deal with he doesn’t show his emotions on the outside to others but it’s obvious he cares because he usually doesn’t do a good job of hiding them basically it’s easy to call his bluffing Bulma sees right through it, when something happens to his family he loses that front and shows how much he really cares., Sasuke on the other hand usually let’s his actions speak for him, before defecting from the leaf  he would save others selflessly without thinking his body just moves on it’s own because he cared probably too much which is why he lost it under the effects of the curse mark in the forest of death. he is the type that would actually say what he thinks, he doesn’t tease or hide how he feels about anyone he might not be the best at showing his feelings as he can be rude but he doesn’t hide his feelings unless he has a reason to, his character was colder in part 2 but he remained true to these traits at heart especially after the end, to sum up Vegeta would not say how he feels Sasuke and Sasuke would, which makes him not say anything to Sakura or show any sign of affection towards Sakura at the end of Naruto gaiden strange and not something he would do if he actually loved her.

10. Sakura has the makings of a tsundere, so does Bulma , only problem is that while Bulma does act as one with everyone including and especially with Vegeta, Sakura on the other hand acts like this with Naruto mostly sometimes with others like Sai or Konohamaru but never ever with Sasuke her personality is completely different when he is around always has been since part 1 with the inner Sakura creation, and it seems she keeps it up even a decade later she becomes docile and obedient and gets nervous and hits Naruto for no reason except her Sasuke fangirl mode, she is a complete 180 from her bad ass normal tsundere state basically RTN Sakura in a nutshell. Around Sasuke, Sakura is nothing but a pathetic addicted fan girl with no back bone. While Bulma will always be a bad ass no matter what.

Sakura gets kidnapped to an unknown location with the enemy and Sasuke is thinking about the enemies abilities I can really feel the love here lol, 

also the next page here where he seems concerned, he is only concerned  from the danger of leaving a weapon that is under the enemy control in play which before made it possible for Naruto to get stabbed. as for Sakura, Sasuke basically tells her I don’t have time to deal with you now take care of your wound yourself you can do that much right? you useless wife can’t believe I thought you could take care of these weakling enemies by yourself. notice how Sakura is still crouching down on the floor in a few of the panels in later pages which shows Sasuke didn’t even bother to help her get up lol.
