maybe some angst where will thinks hes not good enough for mack? hehe ty
Tumblr media
i’ve gotchu!!! the angst is there but so is the hurt/comfort bc i am a sucker for it 🥹🩵
Will lies flat on his back in the dark, staring at the unfamiliar ceiling of his hotel room. The thin sheets are twisted around his ankles, kicked off in frustration half an hour ago. The hum of the air conditioning fills the silence, and somewhere in the hallway, someone’s laughing way too loud for midnight.
He should be sleeping. They have a game tomorrow. But his mind won’t stop chewing on the same thought over and over again like a dog with a bone: Mack deserves better.
He rolls over and picks up his phone from the bedside table. No notifications. Not even from Mack.
It’s not like he expects a play-by-play of Team Canada’s locker room, but… still.
Mack scored a ridiculous goal today against Sweden. An insane breakaway off a backhand pass from fucking Sidney Crosby, so clean it made the highlight reel within minutes. Twitter’s losing its mind. Every NHL account’s posting about it. Crosby himself said in an interview that Mack’s one of the smartest young players he’s ever played with.
Will’s on the fourth line now.
He curls into himself on the too-firm mattress, pressing his cheek against the cool pillowcase. It doesn’t help.
The worst part is that he’s not even mad about the demotion. Not really. He gets it. It’s strategy. Matchups. Warsofsky’s trying to find the right mix and Will’s caught in the shuffle. Again.
But then he thinks about Mack—who doesn’t have to fight for ice time, whose face is lighting up the Jumbotron, who probably got swarmed by reporters after the game and handled it all like a pro—and he feels small. Smaller than he has in a long time.
It wasn’t always like this. Back in San Jose, they were equals. Rookies together. Same line. Same weird rookie rituals and late-night Uber Eats orders. Will had Mack’s number memorized before he had the team systems down. They made each other better on the ice, fed off each other like magnets.
But now? Worlds is different.
Different teams. Different countries. Different rooms.
Will misses the little things the most. Mack flopping onto his hotel bed. Mack dragging him to the gym way too early and rewarding him with coffee after. Their little milk-and-cookies-before-bed tradition that Mack made fun of until he got used to it—and then needed it.
And God, Mack.
Mack with his hair still damp from the shower, tugging Will’s hoodie over his head like it’s his. Mack whispering some ridiculous idea at midnight like sneaking into the hotel kitchen. Mack’s stupid white noise app playing ocean sounds while he falls asleep curled around Will, breath warm against the back of his neck.
It’s easy to believe Mack wants him when they’re together. Mack’s never been subtle about it. He touches Will constantly, talks to him like he’s the most interesting person in any room, laughs at all his jokes even when they’re bad.
But now, with miles between them and Will stuck on the fourth line while Mack headlines the highlight reels, it’s harder to remember what any of that means.
Why would Mack want someone like him?
His phone buzzes.
Will startles, heart flipping as the screen lights up with a FaceTime request. Macklin Celebrini.
He answers in under a second.
Mack’s grinning, face slightly flushed, hair damp and curling around his ears. “Hi.”
Will swallows. His voice comes out hoarse. “Hey.”
“You look like shit,” Mack says cheerfully.
Will laughs, the sound shaky. “Thanks.”
“You sleeping?”
“Was trying.”
Mack leans in closer to the camera. “Thinking too much?”
Will shrugs. “Something like that.”
Mack’s eyes soften. “Miss me that bad?”
Will tries to play it cool, but he knows Mack sees through him. “You’re annoying when you’re not around to distract me.”
Mack grins. “You’re annoying when I am around.”
Will smiles, just a little. “Yeah, well. Guess I miss that too.”
There’s a pause. Mack doesn’t say anything for a beat, just looks at him like he can see through every cracked piece of Will’s confidence. Then he says, quieter, “I miss you too.”
Will’s chest goes warm and tight at the same time.
“Was thinking,” Mack says, “after this whole international bullshit’s done, I’m gonna steal you for like a week. No hockey. No cameras. Just us.”
Will’s throat is suddenly too tight to answer, so he nods.
Mack sees it. Smiles, gentle now. “Good. Also, Mo’s asleep already, so I can stay on for a bit. You want the ocean sounds?”
Will closes his eyes. The ache eases a little. “Yeah. That’d be good.”
Mack flips the camera around, aims it at the nightstand where his phone speaker starts playing a familiar soft tide. Then he sets it down, turns back, and stretches out.
“Go to sleep, Will,” he says, voice low and steady. “I’ll be here.”
And Will, for the first time all night, thinks he actually might.

can you do one where samy and will go to a party in Michigan and Samy gets super drunk and when they get back to her apartment it is just her and will and he is helping samy and she is throwing up and he is helping her and then the next morning she is hungover
i think this ask is from like last summer or close to it (eek so sorry). i've been looking through my asks and landed on this one as i try to answer old ones
i always feel like whenever will and samy go out, he never gets super drunk so he's still sober enough to get them home and take care of samy (also so she never has to worry and can just have fun) -- takes place sometime...this past school year when will comes to visit
au masterlist
the senior hockey house was lively. considering how popular the boys were on and off the ice, their house was always packed anytime they threw a party. it was mostly the girls who tried getting in to talk up one of the players which was always a gamble if they were successful or not because most of the hockey boys were there to have fun.
samy weaved her way through the crowd in search of her boyfriend. she kept getting stopped by someone who wanted to talk to her, so her efforts to find him turned into a 30 minute adventure. there was always a familiar face around the corner like a classmate, a hockey boy, or her soccer teammates that wantd to talk and considering samy got super chatty whenever she was drunk, she always stopped to have a conversation.
will decided to just go to her since he didn't know nearly enough people to get stopped every 5 minutes. he finally found her in the living room talking with tj and tyler. the blonde smiled and silently touched her arm so he didn't startle or interrupt the conversation. the brunette caught his gaze and interrupted herself anyway to greet him.
"ooh, hi baby. i promise i was coming to find you. i got stopped sooo many times," the girl chuckled. the boy's smile grew.
"i figured. that's why i just came to you instead," he kissed her temple. tyler and tj smiled at the affection. at this point, everyone was so used to samy and will that hardly anyone really teased them anymore (besides their closest friends). they were really just "mom and dad" status now.
"i was just telling ty and tj about your season and how you scored like soo many goals in your rookie season," will quickly blushed at the praise.
he never had to worry about leaving samy be at parties because well 1. he trusted her and 2. she just talked about him to everyone she interacted with anyway. he was the same way too, any party he was at in san jose he just talked about his girlfriend the whole time. mack definitely got sick of hearing him yap on about her.
"oh really?" the hockey player chuckled.
"i mean, duh. i gotta brag about you. he's so humble," the brunette smacked his chest and will's smile had never been bigger.
"i honestly can't believe you're a pro now. makes me miss our dev program days," tyler chuckled.
"don't remind me. it goes fast, man. i honestly can't believe it either. i feel like i'm dreaming sometimes still," will admitted.
"i mean you deserve it. you were a fucking beast out there. still are," hearing those words from former teammates made the rookie flush. sometimes when he doubted himself he just remembered how proud his former teammates were of him and why he did this—for them.
"geez, thanks ty. i appreciate that. you are too," the boys continued their small talk while samy finished what was left in her cup. she was buzzing, probably on her 4th drink of the night..she lost count an hour or two ago.
whatever ethan and mark always bought was way better than the cheap alcohol her and hannah got for their wine nights. it got samy drunk pretty fast and she was already tipsy when they got there because her and hannah pregamed with samy's soccer teammates. there were great perks to being friends with the senior hockey players because she always got her friends an in.
tyler and tj let the couple have a moment together since will came over to originally find samy. the girl grinned up at him and will couldn't help but smile back. "hi, pretty."
"hiii, how are you?" she grabbed onto him and he caught her before she stumbled over.
"how are you? drunk?" will could smell the smirnoff on her breath mixed with some type of berry.
"likee yeah. i'm good though. i'm sorry i didn't make it to you sooner. soo many people just wanted to stop and chat. you know me and talking," the brunette giggled.
"i know, you love talking. you think it's maybe time to go?" the shark's rookie wondered just because it was almost 1 in the morning and he knew samy well enough that he knew when she needed to go to bed and stop drinking before she started throwing up.
"okayyy, we can go. i better say bye to hannah and make sure she has a way to get home. and mark and eth so they know i'm leaving," samy determined and will nodded.
"okay, let's find them," with will being taller, he could see through the crowds of people better than samy.
he took her hand to lead her through the house in hopes of finding one of the three people she listed. however, samy was talking to every single person she walked by, sometimes trying to stop completely, but will kept pulling her along.
they found hannah first. she was talking with a few of her gymnast friends, immediately grinning when she saw will and samy.
"hey guys!" the brunette exclaimed.
"hannah!! hey!!" samy jumped into her roommates arms.
"hi pop. what's up?" hannah laughed when she caught the girl.
"will says we're leavinggg. are you getting home okay?"
"yeah, i'll be good. i might go back with georgia and farah," hannah pointed to the two girls beside her.
"you might or you will?" will always needed to confirm the getting home plans.
"she will. we'll get her home okay, don't worry," farah smiled kindly. mark's girlfriend was basically the mom of the group, so she aways made sure the girls made it back home safely. will trusted her and nodded.
"text us," he reminded hannah who nodded.
"will do. take care of her," she giggled down at her roommate again and passed her back to the boy.
mark and ethan weren't far. they were in the kitchen with mostly their teammates now since people were starting to leave. mark spotted the couple first knowing the look meant they were leaving.
"ooh, whats this?" samy spotted a cup of something and picked it up faster than will could stop her. she took a few sips of it before immediately coughing and making a face of disgust.
"hey, don't drink that. i think you've had enough," will took it from her and handed it over to mark who stepped in.
"you guys leaving?" the older boy wondered.
"yeah, i'm gonna take her home. great party, thanks for having us," will nodded.
"you're good to walk her?" mark confirmed and the blonde nodded.
"i'm sure. i'm not even that drunk."
"okay, let one of us know if there's any problems. get back safe," the boys fist bumped.
will took samy by the arm to lead her to the front door. the girl was giggly as they walked, claiming he was tickling her. "baby, that tickles!" she giggled.
"i'm not tickling you, i promise," will hummed.
he would let her go, but he also learned that samy was a runner when she was drunk. if he let go, she'd 100% take off down the street and he did't want her doing that, especially at 1 in the morning.
"do you hate me?" sometimes samy's topic changes gave him whip lash.
"no, why would i hate you?"
"i dunno. you just suddenly decide to hate me?"
"i would never do that, i promise. i love you," the blonde smiled and kissed her cheek again. samy blushed.
"i love you. i love, love, love you."
these were basically their walks home on nights out. samy yapped on about anything that came to her mind and will just listened. he held her arm or her hand to make sure she didn't run off. when will wasn't around to do this, it was usually hannah, mark, ethan, or moldy walking the girl home.
"i'm so drunk right now," samy stated blankly.
"you did drink a lot tonight. you'll probably have a killer hangover tomorrow," will chuckled.
"ugh, don'ttt say that. i can't even think about that right now," the soccer player shook her head.
after another 10 minutes, they were back in samy's apartment. samy kicked her shoes off, feeling a bit more sober after the walk, but the slowing down was making all of the alcohol catch up with her. she was running to the bathroom before will could even process her leaving until he heard the sounds of her yacking in the toilet.
he quickly went to her. she was bent over the toilet, so will pulled her hair back before she threw up in her hair. he tried pretending she wasn't throwing up because his stomach was not that strong to begin with,
"get it all out, baby," he comforted, rubbing her back in soothing circles.
samy threw up 3 more times. whatever was in that random cup she picked up must've been strong in addition to the four or some drinks she had. will flushed the toilet and helped the girl to her feet.
"what do you need? water? food?"
"probably water," the hughes sister mumbled.
will went to the kitchen while samy splashed her face with water from the sink to refresh herself. the throw up definitely sobered her up a bit more, so she was becoming more aware of herself and her surroundings. her boyfriend returned a moment later with a fresh cup of cold water. he leaned against the doorframe to watch her drink it.
"sorry..i definitely went too hard," the brunette flushed.
"don't apologize. you had fun," will quickly shook his head.
he took the cup back from her when it was empty. his next job was helping the girl brush her teeth. he followed her routine—securing her hair back with a headband, wetting the toothbrush before putting the toothpaste on, finding her makeup remover. will had this down to a science.
samy loved turning her brain off whnever her boyfriend was around to take care of her, but as he brushed her teeth for her, she couldn't help but admire him. he was just soo pretty in her eyes, so handsome, so good looking. his little curls were peeking out from under his hat that samy thought about twirling around her finger later.
"okay, spit," he said. she leaned over the sink to spit the toothpaste out and rinse her mouth clean. the next task was her makeup, but that was easy when all the boy had to do was wipe her face off with the wipes.
he was gentle with it. he carefully wiped at her face to get the mascara, foundation, blush, eyeshadow, and eyeliner off. "would younger you think you'd be in this spot right now?" samy asked, kind of thinking out loud as the alcohol wore off.
"what do you mean?"
"like..what would 11 year old us think of us right now?" the brunette giggled thinking of her younger self who absolutely despised the boy in front of her with all of her being.
"i would think younger will would scream cooties and make some snarky remark," the blonde smiled too.
"who would've thought.."
"wouldn't want it any other way though," the hockey player grinned. he threw the wipe out once he was finished and let samy look at herself to make sure he got it all.
"you're perfect at this," she grinned.
they made their way to her room. samy was sober enough to find herself clothes to change into so will dug through his bag for a pair of sweatpants and a different t-shirt. the couple changed and will went to find tylenol and another glass of water for his girlfriend in the morning.
samy climbed right into her bed, glad to be in bed after the long night. will returned with the pills and the same glass he gave her earlier.
"for tomorrow morning," he motioned to the nightstand. samy smiled.
"you're so nice to me."
"i try," will laughed. he climbed into the bed a second later, reaching for the light on his way down to the pillow.
samy scooted close to him knowing how warm he got and how cold she was at the moment despite the blankets on top of them. the boy wrapped his arms around her and samy found his little curls like she knew she would. playing wih his hair was one of her most favorite things to do.
"i love you," she whispered.
"i love you more. sleep well," will hummed.
"thanks for always taking care of me. it means a lot," will's taken care of her for as long as she could remember after nights out and it definitely wasn't going to change anytime soon.
the couple was fast asleep within minutes of one another. will's steady heartbeat put the girl to sleep and her fingers threading through hs hair was what had the hockey player slipping into a deep sleep.

Need a merch idea, @/sjsharksproshop? 😬 Watch @/BrodieBz's full breakdown: NHL site link —San Jose Sharks/X (2025 Mar 30)
[Video description: Brodie Brazil commentating over Sharks pregame sewerball footage from their 2025 March 29 game. Video begins with him speaking to the camera.
Full transcript/description below the cut.]
BRAZIL: Before we bring you Sharks hockey, we first need to bring you Sharks soccer.
Cut to a split screen of two shots of Sharks players (left -> right) Barclay Goodrow, Luca Cagnoni, and William Eklund playing sewerball. The bottom shot is slightly zoomed in from the top one. There is a ceiling panel already missing above a door in the background.
BRAZIL: It's Cags, Goody, and Ekky here playing our favorite soccer game. If you drop the ball you're eliminated—uh oh!
Cagnoni kicks the ball into an already-loose ceiling panel that looks like it's been hit before, knocking it out of place so that it is half hanging out of the ceiling. A piece of it falls onto the floor. He kicks it again to get it back towards the other two, hitting another panel next to it. Eklund lunges over to get it, kicking it into the wall and wiping out onto the floor. He scrambles to get back up and ready.
BRAZIL: That ceiling panel just took a devastating hit. Meanwhile the competition goes on. Look at the level of effort here.
Goodrow passes back to Cagnoni, who lightly bumps the ball off his head and to Eklund, who hits it to Goodrow with his head. Goodrow passes back to Eklund and he returns it with his head again. Goodrow passes back to Eklund and he runs under it, looking like he's going to hit it with his head again, but it soars over him and into the corner of the room. Cagnoni kicks the fragment of the ceiling into the corner.
BRAZIL: Some headers; Ekky with one, another one, he'll try for a third, but uh oh! He drops the ball, so he's out. Meanwhile, what about that panel?
Klim Kostin rips the rest of the loose panel out of the ceiling, carrying it out of frame as Cam Lund, Cagnoni, Eklund, Alexander Wennberg, Tyler Toffoli, Macklin Celebrini, and Georgi Romanov start to assemble a new circle. Eklund walks forwards to peer up into the new hole in the ceiling.
BRAZIL: Well, you gotta call Klim, as in Klim Kostin. Look at him—the responsible one, clearing the debris. Ekky's like, "What exactly is up there anyway?"
Camera cuts to a shot of what looks like two separate ceiling panels leaning against a wall.
BRAZIL: By the way, I'm here to suggest this for the Sharks Pro Shop—autographed pregame used ceiling tiles. Maybe $29.95? Tell 'em Sharkie sent you.
The video ends.

here's cass in her 05 design.
this is more or less how im gonna draw the backyard kids in the atari era as well just to make it easy for myself. like more rounder heads like the 97, still chibi-ish but a tad bit older?
under the read more is 05' HCs for cass
cassandra cruz HCs - 05 edition (this is more so around hockey)
after going through middle school (cause thats where i HC the kids are at least around 04) she began to play hockey more
hockey was the thing to break out of her shell as she began to be more talkative and less afraid. being able to be in the mighty whale sharks helps with teamwork, communication, resilience, discipline, adaptability, and the ability to contain her composure. being in hockey actually made her less anxious about schoolwork and homework.
her worst sports are basketball, football, and skateboard. on her spare time she does try to learn how to skateboard.
never tries to fight any of the opposing team (not allowed anyway). her checking comes from using her hockey stick to poke the puck away from the opposing team.
the mighty whale sharks is one of the many BHL teams and its the kid version of the san jose sharks. in fact cassandra's jersey number is joe thorton's jersey number but reversed: 91.
word got out that she's still called 'sparkles', so her mighty whale sharks teammates also call her 'sparkles'.
she has performed a hat trick before on two away games
there's an empty net on the opposing team and if she's near her team's goal net, she try for a long goal and hit the puck as hard as she can. it happened to get her a goal in the last seconds of a 3rd period game, getting her team the win and she couldn't believe she got it. she didnt realize she hit a goal until the horn indicated that she did. since that game, players have been calling that her big shot. she rarely makes that kind of shot in her games.
relationship HCs - 05 edition
tony: while her outgoing side shows, however, does not mean she gets less shy around tony IN FACT, she gets worse. actively just dances around it even when by now tony knows about it (but also secretly likes her too) nothing but lighthearted jabs at each other because of this. i dont know if atari still keeps the stat boosts but has the same ones in baseball 97, BUT tony also gets the stat boost when they are in the same team
joe thorton: has a friendly rivalry with joe. HC is that the pro players are in a different neighborhoods and play against the backyard kids sometimes. despite being in different neighborhoods, they're on friendly terms and talks with cass about going pro for the NHL. gets a stat boost if she's against joe
by middle school, she's best friends with angela, tony, amir, kenny, and achmed.

acknowledging that i got your message and am not posting it (thank you for your very kind and sweet words about me being ripshit mad about prospect development unprovoked) but did want say that for me when it comes to like learning prospect development, so much of it just came from watching ahl hockey pretty much exclusively from 2021-2024 - excluding the avs cup run, i think i watched less than 20 nhl games for three straight seasons combined and less than 5 that didn't involve seeing the sharks in person - and being able to see in close detail how the pacific division specifically develops their pipelines.
cut for length:
so for example, watching all these pacific division teams constantly has given me a pretty good eye for how they landed at the nhl level now - lak have a youth movement because the reign have been incredibly good at developing chemistry. dustin wolf is a beast bc he'd been fighting demons in stockton (and you can say the same for most of the goalies who came out of tucson for the yotes and are now successful league-wide.) i can also see why teams struggle to develop prospects -- among other things, san jose's goaltending prospects have never been balanced correctly between starts, san diego struggles to build a balanced team, vgk just drafts super weirdly and now henderson is kind of mid.
it's not all a 1:1 fit for what's happening in the ahl vs the nhl - if that were the case edmonton would have been calling up WAY more prospects from bakersfield than they did lmao - and there a lot of varying factors in development like, who gets stuck in the chl until they're overagers, who spends time in the ncaa and for how long, which european prospects get sent back to europe to continue developing for a year and then return. but at least at the ahl level -- i have watched so many gd games with the cuda against the same 10 teams each season, so you really start to notice patterns in the teams and see the ways teams either embrace or discourage that growth/those behaviors/the patterns.
and then that's not getting into how veterans and journeymen can define the team culture (toronto and rich clune, the barracuda and john mccarthy when he was a player) and how a lot of the success of a team AND (hot take) prospect development, can be chalked up to what kind of example the vets and journeymen are setting, how many vets you retain each year etc. cuda were a nightmare position two years ago when the entire vet corps walked. so much of the reason they struggled last year was, imho, no captain and a completely new veteran group that was completely blown over the problems that have been kind of endemic san jose. ([further hot take] i think that's why a lot of the kids stuck to simmer and knyzhov during games, because those guys had been in the soup for years and could model how to play in the system at the nhl level. )
and then even more specifically for me, i do not really give care about the draft - they're not my boys until they're MY boys, so the draft is none of my business lmao. i'm way more concerned with like -- okay, these are our newest lil guys so how are we developing them, where do they fit in our system...which then ends up being, over time, how is our system evolving, where are we failing them, where did this go wrong. some of it is unfixable from the start - a guy has been skating for his whole life one way and it's not nhl caliber and it's too late for him to change - and some of it systemic to the team - a guy is too short on a team that the new gm wants to be big - and some of it as a spectator makes no damn sense and the mind of gmmg is a mystery that i grow to detest more and more every day. why did we sign valtteri pulli and then call up henry thrun for an entire season. gmmg answer my phone calls i watched that man play in person 36 times i know he's better than henry by orders of magnitude. gmmg why did you block my number
i don't have a concluding thought here... tl;dr for me learning prospect development just came from being completely lost in the ahl sauce due to being a season ticketholder for the cuda and just watching the same ten teams over and over again. you get really familiar with prospect development when you're watching that much and you do start to get a broader view and realize that not all of a team's success can be chalked up to high draft picks and drafting well. there's so many factors outside of a teenager's natural talent that can make or break prospect development if the teenager isn't nhl-caliber out of the gate. and all of that can be a deciding factor in whether a team lets a prospect walk after their elc, or whether a prospect chooses to walk after their elc, or a european decides it's not worth the money sink to keep trying in north america, or a prospect requests a buy out because the minor leagues are a difficult league to play in financially, emotionally, and physically and they want to go home before their bodies get destroyed etc etc. that was not a tl;dr and also now it is 2am. thank you for asking feel free to write in anytime.

Like many of his fellow Latin American leaders, Uruguay’s new president-elect is left-wing. But Yamandu Orsi, who narrowly won a runoff election on Sunday, stands out in at least one way: He has never attacked Israel.
Gustavo Petro in Colombia, Gabriel Boric in Chile, and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brazil are all vehement critics of Israel; some have broken diplomatic ties with Israel over its war in Gaza. Jose “Pepe” Mujica, Uruguay’s former president and Orsi’s mentor, is also a harsh Israel critic.
Orsi, by contrast, expressed admiration for Israel’s multicultural society after visiting last year and reiterated those sentiments this month, shortly before the election, even suggesting that he could self-identify as a Zionist. He says he supports Israel’s right to exist while also backing calls for a Palestinian state.
“On the boulevard you see people of both faiths,” Orsi told an interviewer from the Jewish community in September 2023 in Tel Aviv. “That is what surprises me the most, honestly. There is a part of the reality here that is more about coexistence than the other. So it is possible.”
Orsi was on a trip organized by the Central Israelite Committee of Uruguay and the Latin American Jewish Congress, traveling with officials from those Jewish groups on an itinerary focused on science and innovation. Orsi, then mayor of Uruguay’s Canalones region, also visited major tourist attractions including Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust memorial.
“I am a history teacher and I have taught classes on the Second World War and the impact of the Holocaust,” Orsi said in a second interview upon his return. “The guide showed us and gave us details of aspects that I frankly did not know and that, naturally, shocked me.”
Orsi faced criticism from pro-Palestinian leftists within his coalition, the Broad Front, for visiting Israel in a trip that came just weeks before Hamas attacked on Oct. 7, 2023, launching the ongoing war in Gaza. He also drew some criticism from pro-Israel Uruguayans for a tweet he posted while there that highlighted the income gaps between Israelis and Palestinians in Gaza.
“My strategy is dialogue. I can understand that they want to impose vetoes or … a kind of ideological purity of my actions,” Orsi told the interviewer about the left-wing critics. “Clearly, it is not my path. Dialogue and peace, peace and dialogue — I will not give up on that, nor on the freedom to express one’s opinion.”
Orsi’s campaign focused on the environment and the economy, and Israel was not a prominent part of the election discourse. But he discussed Israel at length just before the runoff election on air with a prominent Uruguayan radio personality.
The interviewer, Orlando Petinatti, is Jewish and pro-Israel; his show, “Bad Thoughts,” has aired since 1991 and is the most popular Uruguayan radio program. Orsi signaled that he agreed with Petinatti’s assertion that there is “no apartheid” in Israel, recalling how he watched Arab players on the Israeli team that Uruguay defeated in a game during his trip.
Orsi also said he would call himself a Zionist if the definition is as Petinatti articulated it: “in favor of the Jewish people having a state in the land of Israel.” Orsi added that that would need to come along with provisions granting equal rights to religious minorities.
“I like Zionism ,and also like the Palestinian cause to have a state,” he said. “Having said that, I’m in favor of Israel’s right to exist but I’m not always agreeing with the actions of the Israeli government.”
Uruguay is home to about 15,000 Jews, according to the Latin American Jewish Congress, out of a total population of 3.4 million. (While most live in the capital of Montevideo, there is also a burgeoning Jewish community in the coastal city of Punta del Este.) It was the first South American country to officially recognize the state of Israel and was home to the first Israeli embassy in Latin America, established in 1948, the year of Israel’s founding.
Orsi’s term begins in March and lasts five years. He replaces a center-right politician who represented the only break in the Broad Front’s leadership dating back to 2005.
Uruguay is considered Latin America’s most stable democracy; voting is mandatory and 90% of eligible voters cast ballots in each round of this year’s election. Its neighbor to the west, Argentina, is the largest country in the region with a right-wing president; Javier Milei is vociferously pro-Israel and is reshaping his country’s foreign policy after a period of left-wing leadership, with the goal of bringing Argentina closer to the United States and Israel.
Paraguay, to Argentina’s north, also has a right-wing and pro-Israel president. Santiago Pena, elected last year, is in the process of moving his country’s embassy back to Jerusalem after his predecessor, a liberal, moved it to Tel Aviv, prompting a diplomatic crisis. Pena plans to visit Israel next week to rededicate the Jerusalem embassy.

Nailers Announce 2023-24 Season-Opening Roster & Captains
Tumblr media
The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins, are excited to announce their 2023-24 Season-Opening Roster and captains, as the team prepares to open its 32nd season on Saturday night with a road contest against the Cincinnati Cyclones. Head Coach Derek Army begins his fourth season behind the bench for the Nailers, as he ranks sixth on the team's all-time list with 72 head coaching wins. Mitch Giguere enters his first season as Wheeling's assistant coach with over a decade of coaching experience at a variety of levels. Equipment Manager Bill Higgins is the longest tenured member of the organization, as the Wheeling, West Virginia native starts his 21st season with the club. Lauren Rittle heads into her second season as the Athletic Trainer, and is one of five females to hold that role in the ECHL. The captain of the 2023-24 Nailers is second year forward Justin Addamo. The 6-foot-6 forward made his presence felt in his rookie campaign, as he racked up 21 goals and 33 points in 42 ECHL games, in addition to five goals in 14 AHL matches. A native of Clermont-Ferrand, France, Addamo will be the second ever European captain for Wheeling, joining Stefan Brannare, who was the captain in 2000-01. The team will begin the season with two alternate captains, and both are second year defensemen - Louis Roehl and Davis Bunz. Both players served as more traditional defensive defensemen in college, before seeing their offensive games expand in the pros, as each player eclipsed the 20-point plateau. Roehl, who attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth, had 24 points in 60 games, while Bunz, who attended Providence College, registered 23 points in 58 games. The Pittsburgh Penguins and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins put their stamp on Wheeling's roster, as seven players have either an NHL or AHL contract, including the aforementioned Addamo. Goaltender Taylor Gauthier and forward Jordan Frasca both enter their second seasons in the organization, and both spent time with the Nailers a year ago. Gauthier turned in a 16-10-7 record between the AHL and ECHL last season, while Frasca tallied 12 points in 36 games with Wheeling. Forward Lukas Svejkovsky spent all of last season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and the 2020 draft pick collected 15 points in 47 games as a rookie. Forward Dillon Hamaliuk was acquired by Pittsburgh from San Jose this summer, and the 2019 draft pick has enjoyed success in his short time in the ECHL, as he put up seven points in six games with the Wichita Thunder. Forward Evan Vierling makes the jump to the pro game, after concluding his junior hockey career with a 95-point season as a member of the OHL's Barrie Colts. Defenseman Thimo Nickl will be the first Austrian in team history, as he will make his North American pro debut, following three seasons in Sweden. Nickl was originally selected by Anaheim in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. The 2023-24 roster features a lot of familiar faces, as there are 12 more returning players joining the players mentioned above. Defenseman David Drake is the active player with the most games in Wheeling, as he has played in 112 contests since being acquired from the Reading Royals in 2021-22. Drake was tied for the team lead with a +12 rating last season, was one of three players to appear in all 72 games, and is the club's lone veteran with 262 pro games under his belt. One of the other players to play in every game was forward Cédric Desruisseaux, who had an explosive offensive season, as he led the Nailers with 30 goals and 59 points. Two other players are returning for their third journeys in Wheeling - forwards Bobby Hampton and Félix Paré. Both players finished last year with 15 points, and both have shown the ability to play various roles in the lineup. Forward Peter Laviolette III will begin his second season in his hometown, after posting 11 points and 96 penalty minutes on the ice, and earning the team's Community Award for his efforts around the Ohio Valley. Forwards Matthew Quercia and Shaw Boomhower are back after missing the majority of last season due to injuries. Quercia scored the winning goal in overtime of game seven of the 2022 Kelly Cup Playoffs against Fort Wayne, while Boomhower's 127 penalty minutes in 2021-22 make him a feared opponent when he steps onto the ice. Five returning players are still considered rookies, as they joined the Nailers late last season, following the conclusion of their collegiate careers. Forward Jarrett Lee was one of the first to arrive on the scene, as he needed less than seven minutes to notch a point in his pro debut on March 15th. He finished with eight points in 13 contests. Forward Matt Koopman also debuted on March 15th, and his first point came two nights later, as he assisted on the tying goal in Wheeling's eventual overtime victory. Next up was forward Tanner Laderoute, who was teammates with Roehl and Lee at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. A former NCAA National Champion, Laderoute collected seven points in his first 11 tilts as a Nailer. As March came to an end, forward David Jankowski's career was just beginning. Jankowski finished the year on a five-game point streak, as he totaled six points during that stretch. Sebastian Dirven was the lone defenseman out of the group, but he also showed a flare for offense, as he amassed three points in back-to-back home wins. There are three players who are brand new to the Friendly City. Goaltender David Tendeck enters his fourth pro campaign, after spending the first three in the Arizona Coyotes organization between the AHL and ECHL levels. Tendeck earned 12 wins a year ago with the Atlanta Gladiators, placing him second on the club. He was teammates with defenseman Quinn Wichers in 2021-22, as Wichers played the majority of his first two pro seasons with the Rapid City Rush. Quinn has played in 119 pro games, which includes time in the AHL with the Tucson Roadrunners and San Diego Gulls. Defenseman Avery Winslow will make his pro debut this season, after playing three seasons of junior hockey in the OHL. Winslow got valuable playoff experience in the spring, as his North Bay Battalion reached the conference final. Prior to final rosters being submitted, the Nailers made a trade with the Florida Everblades. Wheeling dealt forward Cam Hausinger to the Florida Everblades in exchange for the rights to defenseman Brandon Hickey (currently with Henderson ), as well as future considerations. Catch all of the action all season long on the Nailers Broadcast Network presented by Main Street Bank. All of the games will air on radio on Mix 97.3 and stream on FloHockey. 20 home games will be televised on COMET TV. DJ Abisalih returns for his 13th season as the Voice of the Nailers, and is joined on the home broadcasts by fourth year Color Commentator Isaac Basinger. The Nailers are just a few days away from the beginning of their 32nd season, as they will drop the puck in Cincinnati on Saturday at 7:35. That will be followed by two additional road matches, before Wheeling plays its home opener against Reading on November 4th at 7:10. Opening Night will feature Mad Chad Taylor - the chainsaw juggler, as well as a magnetic schedule giveaway, and the debut of Nail Ale by Big Timber Brewing. Season memberships and other terrific ticket plans for the 2023-24 season are available now by calling (304) 234-GOAL. The Wheeling Nailers, considered one of the top things to do in Wheeling, West Virginia, provide affordable family entertainment for fans throughout the Ohio Valley. 2023-24 Wheeling Nailers Season-Opening Roster#4-D-Quinn Wichers#5-D-David Drake#6-D-Sebastian Dirven#7-D-Davis Bunz#8-D-Avery Winslow#9-F-Tanner Laderoute#10-F-David Jankowski#11-F-Peter Laviolette III#12-F-Jarrett Lee#13-F-Matthew Quercia#14-F-Jordan Frasca#15-F-Bobby Hampton#18-F-Shaw Boomhower#19-F-Félix Paré#20-F-Justin Addamo#21-F-Cédric Desruisseaux#28-D-Louie Roehl#33-G-Taylor Gauthier#35-G-David Tendeck#36-F-Matt Koopman#41-F-Evan Vierling#70-F-Dillon Hamaliuk#72-F-Lukas Svejkovsky#82-D-Thimo Nickl Read the full article

Can you do a lil blurb of Sammy and will still crushing on each other even though they’ve been in a relationship for a while now (like from the start of it to now). Like they still get memorized by each other to this day and it’s just too cute
waittt yesss samy and will still have such a “honeymoon” stage relationship and are always trying to find ways to “wow” one another because they’re just both so in love with one another. like it’s such a playful relationship of continuously crushing on one another and being shocked that they even pulled one another still ahaha
(btw i just got back to school which means i won’t be as active but i promise i see all of your requests!!! i’m posting this to hold you all over until i can get to them :))
au masterlist
when samy got a text from will earlier that day telling her to dress up when he got back from practice because he had something planned, she couldn’t deny the little skip her heart did reading the text nor the smile on her lips.
it was the way he wrote it and added a bunch of cute little emojis that made her swoon just a little bit. he had practice today, so say busied herself doing things in downtown san jose. she was starting to become a regular and a pro at navigating the city without will. now, she wondered what exactly her boyfriend could have going on him his mind that wanted her dressed up.
samy got back to the house and searched her suitcase for something that screamed “dressed up.” she never usually packed a lot, only really trying to stick to basics, so she was struggling and believing that what she packed wasn’t dressy enough. samy should’ve known will would do something like this.
with what she had, the soccer player threw together something that she hoped met what will had in mind. the long, pink satin skirt fell to her ankles and sat at her hips and the white crisscrossed tank top that hugged her midsection and left her lower stomach open screamed dressy enough. at least the floor length satin skirt was dressy. the girl stood in the bathroom touching up her makeup when her phone buzzed again and her boyfriend’s name lit up the screen.
WILL <3
when you’re ready come outside :)
she smiled at his message, hurrying to finish her mascara and add a touch more of lip gloss. samy stuffed her purse with her essentials, shoved her feet into her sands wedges, and then headed down the stairs to the front door where will supposedly was. her stomach was doing little somersaults as she pulled open the door and her eyes widened when she saw will dressed in a nice button down and shorts leaning against his car holding a bouquet of flowers in his hand. samy’s cheeks heated up as she slowly descended down the steps.
“hi,” the blonde grinned, eyes drinking in her outfit and his own cheeks heated up seeing how pretty she looked.
“will, what is this?” samy grew confused when he handed her the beautiful blue, purple, and pink flowers. she smelled them, the scent of fresh flowers filling her senses.
“just a little something for my girl,” the hockey player hummed, snaking his hand around her waist and thumbing the open skin on her hip.
“you’re so sweet. these are gorgeous,” she beamed, leaning up to peck his lips.
“get in, there’s more surprises,” will urged which just made samy even more confused, but she hurried around to the other side to climb in.
“what do you have planned?” she giggled catching the glint in the boy’s eyes and his mischievous grin.
“you’ll see. it’s a surprise,” will argued.
they rolled out the driveway and will wouldn’t say anything else, so the girl was left to wonder until they got to their destination. the hockey player reached his right hand over to squeeze her thigh, a soft smile on his lips. samy quickly latched their fingers, squeezing back and looking over to admire how good will looked. his curls were a bit damp from the shower he took after practice, but they were the perfect amount of wet and dry that they fell perfectly on his head samy just wanted to reach out and touch them, but she didn’t because will probably styled them just how he wanted them. instead, her heart fluttered again when he began rubbing his thumb across his hand.
it was a small gesture, but it was one that made samy giddy with excitement still anytime will did it. she felt like such a teenager on her first date right now with the unknown of not knowing where it was or what it was, but the butterfly nerves both of them were feeling and sharing.
when they got on the main drag and will started driving in the direction of santa cruz, she guessed it had something to do with the beach because why else would they go to santa cruz? she kept trying to find his eyes and get him to drop a hint, but will was really good at keeping his face set and secrets in.
“how was practice?” samy broke the silence because she still wanted to talk to will and hear his voice after not seeing him all day.
“it was good. we ran some plays and did a few technique practices,” the boy explained and the girl smiled.
“feeling ready for the game tomorrow?”
“i think so, yeah. it should be a good game,” will agreed which was the first time he’s said that in awhile, so samy was glad to hear that. she let him know that by squeezing his palm.
“what about you? how was your day? buy anything cute?” will turned the conversation to her and she flushed.
“it was good. i walked around downtown and just window shopped. i didn’t buy anything. i don’t know if i have money to buy anything right now,” the girl admitted with a laugh.
“if you saw something, tell me and i’ll buy it for you,” will was quick to cut in and her face flushed
“will, i can’t ask you to do that.”
“then don’t ask, i’m already doing it,” he beamed and the girl just rolled her eyes playfully. it would be a miracle if will had any money left after spending all of it on her.
“well, i didn’t really see anything i wanted, so you’re in the clear for now,” the youngest hughes joked.
“you act like it’s a burden for me to buy you things,” the blonde rolled his eyes back.
“don’t forget our roots. you never would’ve bought me something willingly when we were 12,” samy teased with a small chuckle. younger samy and will were such enemies back then, it was hard to believe this was how they were now.
when they pulled into the parking lot samy wondered what will was getting from the back that she wasn’t supposed to look at yet. she stood away from the car like will instructed just waiting for him to tell her what they were doing for the night. she couldn’t lie about the excitement bubbling in her system because will had always been the best at planning these little surprises.
“okay, you can look,” will said and samy spun around.
her boyfriend had a picnic basket slung on his arm, a beach blanket, and a bottle of wine in his hands. the girl’s eyes widened as a large smile crept its way to her lips.
“oh my god, will,” she gushed and the blonde just loved seeing that smile on his girlfriend’s lips.
“how do you feel about a sunset picnic on the beach?” he grinned back.
“i love you,” samy reached up to place a sweet kiss to his lips before letting him lead them down to the warm sand.
luckily, it wasn’t too crowded as they found a spot far away enough that the tide wouldn’t get them wet. samy watched as will opened the basket and pulled out two wine glasses and then the entire grocery store—he seriously must’ve bought all of the pastries, deserts, and appetizers.
“where’d you even get all of this stuff?” samy wondered as she helped lay it out around them.
“the basket is christina’s. i pitched the idea to her last night and she was very much on board. the beach blanket is mack’s. i got the food at the grocery store after practice,” will beamed feeling pretty proud of himself for doing this and it really was worth it to see the smile on samy’s lips.
“and the wine?” she raised her eyebrow.
“eklund.”
“ah, makes sense. well, this is really sweet, will. you wow me,” the girl giggled.
“you wow me too. thought we could have a little date since it’s been so busy lately and i probably won’t see you for awhile after this,” will admitted and a soft smile fell on both of their lips.
they dug into the food and the wine. for being best friends their whole lives, they never seemed to ever run out of things to talk about. samy and will talked about everything and anything while they ate and got (mainly samy because will had to drive home eventually) somewhat wine drunk. they talked about college and everything samy didn’t tell will over facetime. will talked about his teammates and if he could assign them a shred character who would they be. they talked about next summer and where they think they’d be besides the lake house. samy teased will about how much the fans loved his and mack’s friendships and how she was getting replaced (no one could ever replace samy in will’s mind).
by the time they covered all of their bases, two hours had passed and the food was nearly all gone. the sun was almost all the way set below the horizon for the night, but the lights from the town above kept the beach lit for them.
samy was laying on will’s chest. her head found a place over his heart where she listened to its steady rhythm. will’s arm was hooked securely around her waist, still thumbing the open skin between her skirt and shirt. now they were just admiring the starts starting to come out as the sky grew darker and the sun disappeared. it was so perfect.
“did i tell you how beautiful you look?” will mumbled making samy look up at him. he peered down at her while she peered up at him, a soft smile finding its way to her lips.
“you may have mentioned it,” she stroked her thumb over his chest where some of the buttons on his shirt were undone and exposed his toned muscles.
“well, you look really beautiful. you had me speechless when i saw you come out,” the hockey player said making samy blush from the bottom of her neck to the tips of her ears. those compliments would always get her no matter how many times will said them.
“you’re just saying that,” she mumbled.
“i’m not. you make me speechless a lot,” the blonde mumbled.
“you make speechless too. you look pretty handsome yourself. i didn’t know you had these clothes hiding at practice,” she half joked.
“i grabbed them before i left. been thinking about being here with you all day,” will used his other hand to thumb some of samy’s loose strands of hair away from her face.
they gazed into one another’s eyes as the moment closed in around them and it was just samy and will in their own little world.
“how’d i get so lucky?” samy muttered quietly.
“you tell me. how’d i get so lucky?” the boy echoed her words.
“would you have guessed we’d start dating when we were 12?” the girl giggled and will rolled his eyes lightly.
“you’re back to this huh?”
“i’m just saying. we hated each other so much when we were 12 and now we’re confessing our love to one another on a beach,” it just made samy laugh that this ended up being their fate even though she would never ask to change any of it.
“i mean i did have a crush on you when were 12, so it’s not that far off,” will shrugged with a small smile.
“what? you did?” this was news to the soccer player.
“i mean we were 12 and like having those weird phases and moods where we were first developing feelings..i don’t know, but yeah kind of. maybe that was why i was so mean to you because i didn’t know why i was feeling that way towards you. it eventually faded obviously until we got older,” the blonde laughed.
“wow, i didn’t even know that. i just genuinely disliked you.”
“alright,” will mumbled, but samy pushed herself up to peck his lips.
“i couldn’t imagine anything different though. i love you so much,” the brunette beamed. god, will loved that smile so much, especially when he was the cause.
“i love you a lot, samy. you’re my girl forever,” he wrapped both arms around her torso and held her ad close as he could even though they were already as close as they could be.
“you’re mine forever,” she kissed his chest before turning her gaze back to the stars that were now shining brightly above them in all their glory.

"Here we go 😎"
—San Jose Sharks/X (2023 Dec 5)
[Video description: A hype reel of the Sharks gearing up for their away game versus the New York Islanders on 2023 Dec 5, set to a laid back, groovy backing track.
(Complete clip-by-clip description with shoulder pads focus below the cut)
Clip 1: Close up of a player's hands lacing up his skates. (Presumably Calen Addison from the number 33 on the skate blade holder?) He is wearing CCM 20K Pro shin pads.
Clip 2: Marc-Edouard Vlasic seated and leaning over to lace up his skates.
Clip 3: Anthony Duclair seated with one leg folded and perched up on the bench, doing something to his foot/shoe (not in frame). His Bauer Vapor 2X Pro shoulder pads (black shoulder pads with red accents and yellow secondary accents) hang behind him in his stall. Nico Sturm's CCM Ultra Tacks Pro shoulder pads hang in the stall to the right of him. (NOTE: Link is to the listing to the non-pro market version but visually they look similar enough.)
Clip 4: Nico Sturm leaning over to tie his skates. The camera pans up to show the look of concentration on his face.
Clip 5: William Eklund holding one of his skates in his hand to examine it. He is wearing a shoulder brace. His CCM Jetspeed FT4 Pro shoulder pads (dark gray and white with red accents) hang behind him in his stall.
Clip 6: Kaapo Kähkönen sits in his stall with his elbows resting on the tops of his leg pads and his hands clasped. He reaches up to adjust his baseball cap, which has a teal bill and a Sharks logo on the front.
Clip 7: Fabian Zetterlund trimming the tape on the toe of his stick.
Clip 8: Shot from the side, capturing (furthest/left -> nearest/right) Mikael Granlund, Anthony Duclair, Nico Sturm, Givani Smith, and Mike Hoffman. All except for Granlund are hunched over, tending to their lower gear.
Clip 9: Shot from the front of the row of stalls from Duclair to Hoffman. Duclair is tying his skates, Sturm is adjusting his socks, Smith is tying his skates, and Hoffman is drinking from a cup. Smith has CCM U+ Crazy Light shoulder pads (black with red accents) in his stall. (NOTE: I couldn't figure out what Hoffman's shoulder pads are)
Clip 10: Close up of Nikita Okhotiuk chewing on something and looking out at something to the right of the camera.
Clip 11: Filip Zadina getting dressed for the game, putting on his jersey. He is wearing Reebok 20K Pro shoulder pads (mostly white, with grey on the front). He has a vacant stall on either side of him.
Clip 12: Anthony Duclair putting on his jersey. To the left of him are (left -> right) Zadina, Eklund, Justin Bailey, and Tomaš Hertl. Eklund and Bailey are both wearing the same CCM Jetspeed FT4 Pro shoulder pads. Nico Sturm can also be seen on the right, back turned to the camera.
Clip 13: Calen Addison putting on his jersey and helmet. He is wearing the CCM U+ Crazy Light shoulder pads, but the back piece attachment strap appears to have been replaced by a piece from a Vaughn chest protector. (NOTE: Vaughn produces goalie gear.) He is not wearing a shirt under his shoulder pads.
Clip 14: Mario Ferraro putting on his jersey. Marc-Édouard Vlasic is seated, wearing his Jofa 8800 shoulder pads with Reebok _K Pro shoulder caps (NOTE: all the shoulder caps from this series look the same to me) in the background.
Clip 15: Fabian Zetterlund walking out of the locker room. He bumps the back of his glove against Kyle Burroughs' at the door.
Clip 16: Jan Rutta and Zetterlund do a fistbump in the hallway to the ice, in which Rutta swings his hand down from above his head and Zetterlund swings his up from below to meet him.
Clip 17: Zetterlund standing on the left and Rutta standing on the right of the hallway, giving fistbumps to Sturm as he walks between them from the door at the end of the hallway. Zadina stands behind Zetterlund.
Clip 18: Another shot of hallway fistbumps. Okhotiuk (left) and Sturm (right) are at the head of each line now. The video has jumpcuts of a line of players proceeding down the hall. With Kähkönen at the head, the players are shown to walk in the following order: Hertl, Duclair, Zetterlund, Rutta, Alexander Barabanov, Granlund, Ferraro, Jacob Macdonald, Hoffman, Calen Addison, Zadina, Bailey, Sturm(?), Burroughs(?), Kevin Labanc, and Vlasic.
Clip 19: Close up, then shot from behind of Mackenzie Blackwood walking down the hall and stepping onto the ice for the pregame skate. His red Vaughn Ventus SLR Pro/SLR2 Pro Carbon chest protector peeks out from the neckline and wrists of his jersey.
End of video.]
