As I said, KH2 did not ruin Axel, merely mishandled him a little. The manga showed us that with the right handle on Axel's intentions, what he does with them, and what he ends up accomplishing for the larger narrative and character arcs, his role in KH2 was workable (contrast with the novels, where Axel becomes a huge plot tumor, a waste of page space, and out-of-character well before DDD/KH3.)

Axel in KH2 didn't suck because he was "problematic", he sucked because they ruined him.

I don’t understand. You mean from CoM? I see the same character. Granted, he got to burn creepy Frogman Von Greasehair to death which i’ll forever love, so as far as his fighting, he peaked there. I’m curious how you think he was ruined. Because he cared about someone? Grew a heart since you saw him in CoM?
