@extraordinarygrrls ❤️ (for Abby)
“GOD, THAT POOR KID.” Allison walked out of the interrogation room and closed the door, letting out a long sigh as she sat down in one of the chairs of the waiting room. She looked up at Abby from where she sat. “His face… when that safe opened, he… he was TERRIFIED. He’d been there the whole time. If it weren’t for the oxygen mask, he’d have been dead. And he keeps asking where his father is…”
She swallowed thickly, then spoke again. “We have to find him. ERIC. I still hate the guy, believe me, but… until we find a body, he’s still alive in my eyes. And Daniel NEEDS his father.”

THE FIRST THING Lindsey noticed about her was how nervous she seemed. She’d expected that; she’d spoken to Allison enough to know what to expect, but the last thing Lindsey wanted was for Abby to feel uncomfortable or not at ease. So, she just gave the other woman a reassuring and calming smile, immediately taking Abby’s hand and shaking it. “You look nice, too. I’m Agent Lindsey Perez.”
Once Perez had shaken Abby’s hand, Strahm reached out, taking it and giving it a firm shake. “Agent Peter Strahm, FBI.” He seemed to be staring her down — but not in an intimidating way, more in an analytical way, as if he was analyzing her. Peter had a tendency to do that whenever he met new people. But he figured it was probably making her uncomfortable, so he cracked one of his rare, small smiles for about half a second before his expression faded into his usual neutral one.
Allison quickly noticed the awkwardness and chimed in. “Her work is FANTASTIC. I mean, if it weren’t for her, we wouldn’t have, like, ANY leads on this case.”
Perez nodded, then smiled directly at Abby, looking into her eyes. “You seem very dedicated to your work. What got you into forensics?”
First meeting redo for @fantasywritten now that she has collected strahm, kerry & perez.
Kerry told her not to be nervous, there was no need to be nervous, she’d put in a good word about the strange woman in the forensics lab. That her work was good, that she was good, Kerry even said she’d come down with them.
But she couldn’t help it, Kerry got her talking again, after John took her, after she confronted the man he truly was. Maybe she never was in any real danger, but the hurt and betrayal was palpable. She knew he was doing this, and that he still had Eric Matthews imprisoned somewhere, and that he’ll keep killing, he’ll just keep killing until he dies too. And he’ll never see himself as a killer, or a hypocrite, or a monster. What does that make her?
She was talking again, but she was in knots, fluttering around like a hummingbird, her thoughts were scattered, she got more overwhelmed by things. How could you talk that up, Allison?
But they came to the lab, eventually. Kerry, as always, with that same reassuring air, and the two new agents. Both were taller than her, just as professional and cool as each other. She turned with a start when she was alerted they were they, and removed the earphones she sorely needed. “Oh! Kerry.. Hi. Yes, right. And you two are the FBI agents, yes? Wow you two are… Really.. I mean, you both look very nice today.” Compliments, remember, those are nice. Be nice, be easy.
She tried her best to smile politely, look at them while she’s talking to them, but it’s clear she was a little mixed up, and even more nervous. “I’m… Abigail. I mean, Cain. Last names… Abigail Cain… Is my name. You can just call me… Whatever you like?” She looked to Kerry for help, she was struggling. She at least remembered to offer handshakes.

@extraordinarygrrls (continued from here)
SHE’D FIGURED Abby wouldn’t be willing to sneak her out of there. Maybe she could convince Perez. But deep down, Allison knew this was probably the best place for her to be. It just sucked. She was SO DAMN TIRED of being stuck in his hospital bed. When the hell were the doctors going to clear her?
With a long sigh, Allison rested her head against the pillow, staring up at the bright lights of the room. “I KNOW.” She knew that, and she knew Abby was right. It would be good for her to get some time off. She HAD become obsessed with the case — but it was mostly because they always seemed to be SO CLOSE to solving it. It was maddening. And then, more people would die, and they’d be back to square one.
Squeezing Abigail’s hand with her own, Allison moved her gaze back to her friend. “I know… I know. So was I, obviously.” A weak attempt at a joke to lighten the mood. IT DIDN’T WORK. In fact, it only brought those memories back even stronger than before. But, as usual, Allison pushed them down with a slight grimace, changing the subject slightly. “I’m okay… but I’ll be better once I LEAVE THIS PLACE.”

yet another surprise starter for @extraordinarygrrls bc i have no self control lol
“WHAT’S GOING ON?” Allison stepped into the lab, not even bothering to knock. She knew something was wrong; Abby had hardly been out of the lab at all in the past week. “I’ve barely seen you.” Maybe no one else had noticed, but Allison had. “Do you want to GO GET LUNCH? I’m starving.”

surprise starter for @extraordinarygrrls because i just finished my kerry icons!
“ALL RIGHT, come on. We’re going out.” Allison normally didn’t suggest things like this; she tended to get hyper-focused on her work, but it was the holiday season. Wouldn’t it do them all some good to have just ONE NIGHT of peace? Offering Abby a smile, Allison grabbed her car keys, motioning for the other woman to follow her. “There’s a Christmas festival going on tonight, and I think we could BOTH use a break from this stuffy building.”

@extraordinarygrrls
(Abby/Kerry) "I just don't get it, Allison. How are you of all people alone on Valentine's day, you're like... Gorgeous, and you have perfect hair AND you're a badass." Abigail decided to loop her best friend into her Valentines tradition of self pampering. Skin care, chocolates, lots of wine, she'd never had a sleepover before.
"Who needs dates anyway, though, right? So dumb..." She muttered into her glass. "I was thinking of getting Peter a card, but I thought that'd be weird if I don't have the guts to ask him on a date... Besides, I don't think he'd be into the whole flowers and chocolates.. and me..."
ALLISON CHUCKLED SOFTLY, shaking her head. “It’s not that hard to believe. Still, I appreciate the compliments.” Taking a small sip from her wine glass, she shrugged, swallowing the liquid before continuing to speak. “It’s not that I couldn’t GET a date if I didn’t want to. It’s just…” Letting out a soft sigh, Allison didn’t bother to finish her sentence. She didn’t know what she would’ve said, anyway. That she didn’t want a man? That she wasn’t really in the mood for dating after what had happened to her? That she was afraid of people seeing her scars and judging her for them — or worse, ASKING QUESTIONS? No, she didn’t want to kill the mood, so she remained quiet.
But at the mention of Peter, she grinned playfully nudging Abby lightly. “I’VE SEEN you staring at him, you know.” She was just teasing, of course. “But in all seriousness, I think you should GO FOR IT. If he says no, he’s an idiot.” Still, she’d be lying if she said she wasn’t a little worried that Mark and Rigg would make fun of Abby if Peter said no. At least Eric wasn’t there… it was A HORRIBLE THOUGHT, considering he was missing, but Allison couldn’t help thinking it.
“Or I could talk to him for you, you know? Put in a good word.” She’d already done that the first time they’d met, but Abby didn’t know that — OR SO SHE THOUGHT. Smiling, she took another sip of wine. “Oh, and for the record, I’ve never met a man who isn’t into chocolate.”

@extraordinarygrrls:
(Allison/Abby, AU where she lives which is CANON THANKS.) "I-I know, it's probably a real.. real disappointment to you." She couldn't stop fiddling with her hands these days, and struggled to look people in the eyes, especially Kerry's. "Genuis forensics prodigy quits and goes crazy after one case... Meanwhile you almost get turned inside out and you're still a detective." And even still, she was helping Abby while leaving the house was a difficult task. At least she could spend her time unpacking the new place. "I know I was never strong, some hero like you or Lindsey, or Peter. I couldn't stay, not after Mark, after almost losing you all, and John..." A shaky breath, Kerry knew everything at this point. "Maybe that makes me spineless, a-and that's because deep down, I am."
“ABBY…” Kerry found herself offering the other woman a small smile. She truly did consider the other woman to be her best friend. Abby had saved her MULTIPLE TIMES from falling into a deep spiral, an endless void of the Jigsaw case. She hated that Abby was talking shit about herself, ESPECIALLY after all she’d been through. Intertwining her hands with Abby’s, Kerry smiled softly. “You’re not spineless. TRUST ME — you’re one of the strongest people I know.” Even if Abby didn’t believe that, Kerry did. She wasn’t just lying to make her friend feel better. She was being HONEST. She’d been through a lot, and she’d persevered. THAT was bravery. THAT was strength. “But you need to do what’s best for YOU. Not anyone else. YOU.” Her smile faded, just to show Abby how serious she was. After another moment, Allison sighed softly, letting go of her hands. “Come here.” Pulling Abby into a tight hug, the detective rested her head on the other woman’s shoulder. “I love you. You deserve to be happy.”

SHE WAS WORRIED about Abby. She knew what had happened to her, and she felt awful about it. The question Allison kept asking herself was, WHY ABBY? Abby wasn’t a cop; she was a forensic scientist, and she’d done absolutely NOTHING to deserve being kidnapped. Thank God she’d made it out alive. But the trauma was probably killing her slowly on the inside, ESPECIALLY if she was completely cooped up in her lab.
Ah, so she was nonverbal. Allison didn’t comment on it; the last thing she wanted was to make her friend INSECURE. Offering Abby a small smile, Allison gently wrapped an arm around her, hugging her from the side. “Good. I was getting a little worried about you, you know.” She pulled back from the hug a short moment later.
“There’s this new Mexican place I discovered a couple days ago. Do you like Mexican?” Even though she knew Abby wouldn’t respond VERBALLY, she figured the other woman would either nod or shake her head. And Kerry wanted to make sure that Abby had a say in it.

Silence, diligent work, she practically buried herself in it. It’s what she’s supposed to do, right? Obsess, have that sense of grit, that she doesn’t need anyone. Really, she’d had trouble saying much of anything since she was kidnapped by someone she’d once considered a friend. That he was revealed to be the Jigsaw Killer, she fainted then, no one was around to see it but she collapsed in her lab.
Now, she felt insecure and afraid at home, but so lonely here. People looked down on her, she felt it, that her pain meant nothing, she was never maimed, she should get over it. People were more concerned about the disappearance of Eric Matthews, she doubted anyone even knew she was gone except for Mark, and he hadn’t spoken to her since.
She still had a problem speaking, even though she turned to meet her. But when she asked if she wanted to get lunch, she did nod and step toward her. This wasn’t the first time Kerry had to deal with a nonverbal Abigail, thankfully. Even then, the forensic scientist tried to behave herself.

EVERYONE THAT GAVE THEM A WEIRD LOOK got a dirty one in return. Frankly, Allison didn’t care what any of them thought of her; it was just annoying how they all judged Abby for just being who she was. Allison knew Abby was one of the most brilliant minds at work, but there was MORE TO HER than just intelligence. She didn’t know her very well, but she’d seen Abby’s compassion firsthand. And she deserved the same in return.
“YES, of course. That’s what I said.” Kerry smiled as she opened the door, holding it for Abby. She was glad to have a break. Although she didn’t show it on the outside, she hated seeing the bodies of innocents, trying to piece together their brutal deaths. But if she didn’t do it, WHO ELSE WOULD?
Once the door had closed behind them, Kerry turned to face Abby. “I DON’T LIKE the way they treat you. I’ve seen what you can do; you’re BRILLIANT, and you don’t deserve all the crap you get.” She headed towards her car, continuing to speak as she walked. “I just figured… ONE NIGHT away won’t hurt anyone. You know?”

With… Her?
She wanted to go out with her? Abby suddenly looked a little worried, pushing her glasses up her nose hurriedly, looking around to see if anyone in the break room was snickering, was this some kind of joke? Kerry did receive a couple of odd looks, a few mutterings about how they were both women, they supposed. As if they were just as confused as Abigail was that Allison Kerry was giving her the time of day, especially to a Christmas festival.
“You want me to… Come with you?” Abigail Cain recently had whatever confidence she had snuffed out by the people around her. Not in her work, of course, she was one of the biggest brains in the department, certainly their best scientist, just… In who she was as a person, she figured it would be the same. People found her mind and expertise useful, but they could do without the rest of her.
But in Allison’s offer there was… Hope, not only the hope that she had one friend in this stuffy building, but also hope that she could pull the older woman away from her obsession with the case, one that would endanger her. “O-Okay! Yes, I-I’d love to, really. If that’s okay with you.” She was already following her out the door like a puppy desperate for a walk.

“I CAN IMAGINE,” Strahm replied with a nod. He’d seen some of the traps, some of the bodies, and he knew it was probably NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE to get an accurate study on them. And yet, Abby was able to do so. Having a job like that HAD to be difficult — one might even argue that studying the deceased was even more difficult than being an FBI agent.
“I LIKED BIOLOGY, too,” Lindsey added, speaking up once more with a soft smile. It was true; she’d been fascinated in her biology class, even though FORENSICS was more her style. She turned to face Allison for a moment, giving her a friendly grin before turning back to Abby, her grin fading a bit as she spoke once more. “Yeah, this case is completely out of the ordinary for us. This Jigsaw killer is seriously SICK IN THE HEAD.”
“It’s DISGUSTING.” Strahm’s expression became slightly more tense, his jaw tightening as he thought about it. His voice rose. “He gets off on putting people in DEATH TRAPS and watching them suffer before dying the most painful deaths imaginable. I mean, what kind of sick, psychopathic, MOTHERFUCKER would-”
“Strahm.” Lindsey moved her gaze to him, her own voice gentle, yet still with a slight firmness.
Strahm stopped talking then, swallowing sharply and taking a moment to gather his composure before he spoke again. “I’M SORRY. It gets to me.” It was clear that he was trying to keep it together.
THE FIRST THING Lindsey noticed about her was how nervous she seemed. She’d expected that; she’d spoken to Allison enough to know what to expect, but the last thing Lindsey wanted was for Abby to feel uncomfortable or not at ease. IT WAS TRUE. The whole department would likely be rushing to her side, NOT to support her in this difficult time, but to question her. She shrugged, sighing softly as she rested her head against the back of the hospital bed. “Yeah, well, that’s the way THINGS GO around here, isn’t it?” Her tone made it clear how she felt about that whole thing.
ALLISON VISIBLY BRIGHTENED UP at the sound of Perez and Strahm coming first. She knew they’d be more sympathetic — well, PEREZ would, at least. She hardly knew Strahm, but she’d spent a good chunk of time with Perez, enough to know that she’d be understanding. “THANKS.” She smiled softly. She wanted to keep a RELATIVELY positive attitude as to not worry Abby, but the other woman could probably tell how distressed Allison was, even if she wasn’t showing it. The experience was playing over and over again in her head. Having Abby by her side helped, of course, but it didn’t take away the PAIN.
“YEAH… honestly, I’d rather not be alone, either,” she admitted, averting her gaze. It wasn’t that she was embarrassed; she knew Abby wouldn’t judge her. It was just that she didn’t want to be a burden, and she didn’t want to jeopardize the case. MORE AND MORE PEOPLE were dying from these traps every day; how were they supposed to keep up, ESPECIALLY if Abby was taking care of her? And yet, she was offering, and Allison appreciated that more than Abby would ever know.
