hi! um. i have a kinda awkward question

so my friends are always making this joke about me being neurodivergent but i'm starting to wonder if i might actually have it? um. rephrase.

so i stim a lot and have some trouble sleeping if i'm not exhausted. and i always thought it was recent and bc of depression but

i've always walked on tiptoe for as long as i can remember and i remember as a kid my grandma would get annoyed at me for: perching on my chair instead of sitting normally / and wringing my hands as a nervous habit (she told me i looked like an old maid, repeatedly) / and being so restless that when we sat down to eat the table would vibrate / when we sat down on bleachers to watch my cousins play sports the bleachers would vibrate.

but i don't think i have adhd, 'cause i do well academically and love reading books, and i don't think i have autism, because i have no sensory issues or communication troubles. maybe i'm just making something out of nothing? sorry, i'd just like your two cents, thank you!

I toe walk while stimming (usually on my tiptoes and spinning counterclockwise). And tie walking does have a relationship with autism. According to the Autism Research Institute:

Idiopathic toe walking (toe walking that persists without a diagnosed neuro-motor or physical dysfunction) is most frequent in children with neuropsychiatric and communication and learning conditions (Sala et al., 1999; Engström and Tedroff, 2018). Studies on the prevalence of idiopathic toe walking did not differentiate between ASD and other neuropsychiatric conditions until recently. However, in 2019 a large-scale review of trends and treatment patterns found that 9% of children with ASD are diagnosed with persistent/idiopathic toe walking compared to less than 0.5% of children without an autism diagnosis (Leyden et al., 2019).

Causes for this increased prevalence of toe walking in individuals on the spectrum are varied and unclear. In some cases, it results from tight heel cords that restrict the range of movement in the ankle (Barrow et al., 2011). Toe walking can also be caused by a dysregulated vestibular or sensory system involving touch, proprioception, and vision. More research is needed to fully understand which tactile/sensory processing differences may cause idiopathic toe walking in children with ASD.

I found something else from the Autism Research Institute:

A dysfunctional vestibular system, a common problem in autism, may be responsible for toe walking. The vestibular system provides the brain with feedback regarding body motion and position. It may be possible to reduce or eliminate toe walking by providing the person with therapeutic vestibular stimulation (e.g., being swung on a glider swing).

Toe walking may be directly or indirectly related to a visual-vestibular problem. I have conducted several research studies with Melvin Kaplan, O.D. at the Center for Visual Management in Tarrytown, New York. While performing these studies, I observed four individuals who were toe walkers. In each case, their toe walking was eliminated within seconds after the child began wearing prism lenses.

EB: This Pearl contains code, very in depth and difficult code that I don’t want to get into the specifics of, so I will simplify this for you.

EB: It’s a string of code that tells data transferred into a machine what to do. The code allows a creature to be altered biologically by going surface level through behaviors, or deeper levels through biological features. This string of code also seems to specify where the data comes from, which happens to be one of my neighbors, Extracted Prism Sunsets. From what I understand, it’s without his knowledge.

At the end of the code, there is a loop line, which means that the data goes through a continuous loop, so it’s… a never-ending cycle of countless alterations to a certain creature.

it all happened in the blink of an eye. mark lee, the neighbourhood’s friendly spiderman was walking through a dark alley when some kind of golden, sparkly porthole magically showed up from a short distance. rather than being scared, he actually approached the unknown creation, also hearing voices saying “yo, mark, it’s us! come here!”. he was bedazzled upon whoever might be calling his name. he then entered the door, only to find two complete strangers who also exchanged puzzled glances when he removed his mask.

it then came to his knowledge that there are three mark lee’s, all coming from different universes, all having the spiderman alter ego. that quiet night then turned 360°, him joining forces with the other two mark lee’s in curing the villains evilness. yes, it might be impossible but they had hope - and they succeeded.

while he was busy trying to inject the serum into dr. connor’s lizard-like limbs, he could hear mj’s screaming as she fell back, down towards the ground. as if it’s all going in slow motion, the other mark lee jumped down in efforts to catch her body - only to be knocked off by green goblin’s glider. immediately, mark ran towards the edge and jumped off, catching mj’s waist and landing on his feet. only one thing ran through his mind - you. you who fell to your death in the clock tower, you who he failed to catch and ran out of time with, you who he promised to always be on the same path with.

“are you okay?” mark asked, not realizing that his eyes are starting to water.

“yeah, i’m okay. thanks,” mj frantically nodded, helping herself to get back onto her own two feet.

that eventful night eventually came to an end, the villains and him going back to their own universe. the one thing he forgot about is how one major event could change his whole timeline - in his case, electro not existing, causing the big battle to not occur at all. oh how shocked he was to find you sitting on a bench at the park the next day, reading through your novel.

“mark, where have you been? i’ve been waiting here for half an hour,” you exclaimed, putting your novel aside and approaching him.

“y/n? what- what are you doing here? you’re alive?” mark rubbed the back of his neck, his mind still comprehending the sight of you standing in front of him - healthy and well. he even pinched his cheeks slightly, in case all of this is just a dream.

“yeah, of course i’m alive, what is up with you today?” you raised your eyebrow. what is going on? he’s being extra weird.

“god, i’ve missed you so much,” he wasted no time in pulling you into his embrace, inhaling the scent of you, the scent that he’s been missing the most. his mind kept on replaying every second of your death since the incident, he couldn’t seem to forgive himself. it’s not like he was at fault but he can’t help but think so.

“wow, okay, i miss you too,” you laughed a little, enjoying the sudden affection he’s giving you.

mark took this as a reminder of how special you are to him, his other half, he supposed. nevertheless, he’d never want to feel how he felt during the first few months of your passing ever again.

“come on, we’re gonna be late to the movies!” you pulled his wrist, leading him to your date today.

i was wondering when it was discovered that asd and toe walking/learning to walk late had a connection? i walked really late (18 months old) and toe walk still today. i was wondering when that information was widely shared because i’m just thinking, wondering if someone suspected asd at all during that period

Hi there, I found a source talking about toe walking. According to this article:

A dysfunctional vestibular system, a common problem in autism, may be responsible for toe walking. The vestibular system provides the brain with feedback regarding body motion and position. It may be possible to reduce or eliminate toe walking by providing the person with therapeutic vestibular stimulation (e.g., being swung on a glider swing).

Toe walking may be directly or indirectly related to a visual-vestibular problem. I have conducted several research studies with Melvin Kaplan, O.D. at the Center for Visual Management in Tarrytown, New York. While performing these studies, I observed four individuals who were toe walkers. In each case, their toe walking was eliminated within seconds after the child began wearing prism lenses.

#OnThisDay in 1995, the Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders episode “Full Circle” debuted.

The Jewel Riders must recharge the magic of their Enchanted Jewels by returning them to the Friendship Ring, the most magical place in Avalon. The girls must perform the Circle of Friendship Ceremony, as they did when they first got their jewels. With their jewels recharged, the girls must then enter the wild magic and find Merlin. Led by their friend, Kit the Prism Fox, and special creatures called magic gliders, the Jewel Riders find Merlin, but Kale has tracked them down. Merlin reveals that the Crystal Palace, itself, is an Enchanted Jewel with great powers of goodness. The Jewel Riders must release the magic of the Crystal Palace to save Avalon. While Merlin holds Kale in the Wild Magic, the girls use Merlin’s Jewel box to release the magic of the Crystal Palace and save Avalon. But Merlin has sacrificed his magic staff that holds his jewel to throw Kale into the wild magic and without this jewel, he cannot return home. The Jewel Riders discover that in accomplishing their quest, they are now tuned to the Jewel Box. This will give their jewels far greater magical power than they ever dreamed possible. They must now learn how to use these enhanced powers and continue their quest to bring Merlin home and protect Avalon. By turning the magic of the Jewel Box to themselves, the Jewel Riders have completed “Level 1” of their training. They are about to enter Level 2. (Leading into the Second Season.)
