Stuques backstory 🤭
(Idk if my writings bad or not so pls be nice lol)
It was just meant to be a simple outing to the Bowl-a-rama for Stu. All he wanted was to reference figures in motion for his artwork. But then he saw Jacques.
Stu noticed how well Jacques was at bowling, watching how his body moved as he tossed the bowling ball down the lane so skillfully.
As Stu put his pencil to his paper, he finds himself distracted by the handsome bowler. Stu zones out slightly, and the next thing he sees is Jacques standing in front of him.
“I couldn’t help but notice your eyes on me as I was bowling.”
“Oh… sorry… it’s not anything weird, I’m only here to reference figures in motion for my art studies.” Stu explains.
Jacques looks down at the paper, chuckling softly.
“Is that me?” Stu hears Jacques’s silky, deep masculine voice ask. Stu nodded, deeply embarrassed. He’d always been self conscious about his artwork.
“Oh, uh… yeah…”
“May I keep it?”
“Oh… of course…” Stu smiles, tearing the page from his sketchpad and giving it to Jacques.
“What is your name, darling?” Jacques asks, in his usual romantic, flirtatious manner.
“Stu. It’s short for Stuart. And you?”
“It is nice to meet you, Stuart. My name is Jacques.” He politely shakes Stu’s hand, and Stu hopes his blushing isn’t too obvious. Jacques chuckles as he notices this.
“It’s nice to meet you, Jacques.” Stu smiles softly, locking eyes with Jacques for a short moment. “I…” Stu begins, losing his train of thought as he looks up at Jacques, who has a handsome smirk on his face. “I should probably get going. I have work tonight.
Jacques nods. “I understand. Goodbye, Stu.”
A week had passed since their chance meeting. Stu had just finished a drag performance at the Maison Derrière and was sitting in his backstage dressing room with his close friend Shauna Tifton, who was known by the stage name of Princess Kashmir. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
“Come in!” Shauna says, and the door opens. Stu automatically recognizes the guest. He was tall, with emerald green eyes and perfectly styled brown hair. As he entered the room, Stu smelled the unmistakable scent of rose petals. Stu couldn’t quite put his finger on who this mysteriously familiar person was until he remembered the week before. The man was wearing a bowling shirt, having clearly just come from the bowling alley. It was Jacques.
“Oh hey Jacques!” Shauna said, hugging him before motioning over to Stu. “This is my friend, Stu. Stu, this is Jacques.”
Jacques smiles warmly, holding out his hand to shake Stu’s.
“We have already met. It is nice to see you again, Stu. You were magnifique tonight. You are quite the artist as well, hm?” Jacques says, with a slight chuckle.
Stu returns the smile. “You’re quite the athlete. I’ve seen you bowl, it’s incredible.”
Jacques chuckles at this. “Oh Stu.. you’re too kind. Your performance tonight was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. You’re so talented in many ways. In fact, I want to give you this..”
Jacques pulls out a freshly cut rose, giving it to Stu. “This is for you, for an amazing performance.”
Stu smiles bashfully. “You’re so sweet. It means a lot to have you as a fan. Thank you.”
“Of course. I’ll leave you two alone now.” Jacques states, leaving the two performers alone.
“You know that guy?” Stu asks, intrigued.
“Of course I do!” says Shauna. “He’s like a brother to me.”
“What was that all about? The whole rose thing?”
Shauna chuckles at the rose sentiment. “You must have really made an impression on him, Stu. That rose was fresh, he must have cut it from the garden out front after your show.”
Stu can’t help but laugh at this. “You’re kidding, right?”
Shauna chuckles. “He must really be smitten for you. What do you think? Are you interested in him?”
Stu nods. “You know for a guy I just met, he actually seems like a total sweetheart. I guess I’ll wait and see how things play out though.”
Later that night, Shauna got a call from Jacques.
“What is it, Jacq?”
“I was just wondering if Stu is seeing anyone? I’m asking for a, uh, friend…” Jacques asks, a feeling of nervousness in his voice.
Shauna chuckles. “No, he’s not. Why do you ask?”
“Shauna, I can’t stop thinking about him. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this way about anyone before. He’s so talented, and for once someone’s been able to make me blush just as much as I’ve been able to make them blush.”
“You want me to be your wingman, huh?” Shauna chuckles. “Sure, why not?”
After talking with Stu, Shauna arranged a date for Jacques and Stu to meet up at Shorty’s Diner for brunch.
Stu initially felt nervous, wondering if he should go or not. He was worried that Jacques wouldn’t even be at the diner, and he was even more worried that Jacques would lose interest in him after spending more time around him. Not to mention that Jacques seemed like a playboy, like he flirted with everyone he saw, which scared Stu.
He worried that he was just meant to be a quick fling and nothing more. Still, Stu worked up the courage to meet Jacques for brunch.
To Stu’s surprise, Jacques was at the diner. But more than that, he had already picked out a booth for them to sit at, and ordered mimosas for the two of them.
“Oh, hello, Stuart.” Jacques says, smiling warmly. “What would you like to order?”
“Well… I’m a vegetarian and… well, frankly, i’m low on funds. So I’ll just have a cheese and fruit plate.” Stu replies.
“My darling, don’t worry about the cost.” Jacques reassures him. “I will cover it. Order whatever you’d like.”
“Thank you… I really appreciate it. I don’t have the best source of income to say the least.” Stu says, laughing awkwardly. Thankfully, their food came after a few minutes.
Later on, as they stood up from the booth to say their goodbyes, Jacques decided to say something shocking.
“So, do you want to meet with me at my apartment later tonight, Stuart?” Jacques asks, obviously suggesting something. Stu feels his stomach churn, his fears about Jacques using him seemingly coming true.
“You know, if you only want me for sex, I’m not interested.” Stu says, with a stern look on his face.
“Huh? Oh, no. Stuart, there’s something about you that sets you apart from others. You manage to make me blush, something which has never happened in past relationships. I feel like this is fate, like I fell in love at first sight.” Jacques explains, genuine sincerity in his voice. “Now, of course, you don’t have to meet me there, but I would love to see more of you.”
Stu trusted him because of how genuine his explanation seemed, and the gentle kindness he’d shown throughout their interactions. He’d been hurt in relationships before that ended in heartbreak, but he had a gut feeling that this was different.
“Alright, what time?” Stu smiles, in a moment of boldness.

Propaganda
Sharmila Tagore (Apur Sansar, Kashmir ki Kali, An Evening in Paris)—She was adorable, an actual princess (through marriage), the first woman to wear a bikini in a Hindi film, and had, I would argue, the most iconic beehive hair in film history.
Pola Negri (The Wildcat, Men, A Woman Commands)—Legally obliged to submit her as she's from Poland, but also it is one of the greatest stars of silent film, both in Hollywood and Europe, so she has to be here. The og femme fatale and a fenomenal dramatic actress. And just so hot in this 1920s vamp style. Obviously her career slowed down in America with the introduction of sound movies, because of her accent and low voice. I'd say her voice is so much hotter thanks to that, but I'm just a simple simp. But then she made movies in Germany, and after the war she was even offered Gloria Swanson's role in "Sunset Boulevard'' but she declined. She was probably bisexual as after romances with Charlie Chaplin and Rudolf Valentino in the 20s, since the 1940s she lived with her 'female friend'.
This is round 3 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Sharmila Tagore propaganda:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"One of the most well-known Bollywood actresses of all time!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pola Negri:
Tumblr media
A tempestuous green-eyed vamp of the silent screen, she tantalized with both her onscreen and offscreen romances. Rocked a Polish accent - well, once there was sound! A true proficient at promoting herself and using all possible tools to do so - from a dead Rudolf Valentino to a cheetah named Teddy, the latter of which she brought to a press conference.
Tumblr media
First European actress to be contracted by Hollywood! She survived poverty and illness to become The Queen of Tragedy, she divorced a count to date stars like Charlie Chaplin and Rudolph Valentino, then spent the rest of her life living with Margaret West in what could have been a romantic relationship.
I don't have much to say about her actual career, personal life, etc. but I just need everyone to see how hauntingly beautiful her face is. I haven't been able to stop thinking about her since the first time I saw her LOL like its pretty clear why she was such a star

In Cinderella Tales From Around the World, I've now reached the versions from the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia: Iran, Palestine, Nigeria, Angola, Sri Lanka, India, and Kashmir.
*The Iranian variant, The Story of Little Fatima, starts out much like the Italian La Gatta Cenerentola, but then turns into a "mother as animal helper" variant, with a middle section like the Portuguese The Hearth Cat. At the beginning, Little Fatima's female teacher tricks her into murdering her mother (!!!) so she can marry her father, then abuses her. But the mother's spirit comes back as a cow and shows her daughter unconditional love by magically aiding her chores. One day the cotton she's supposed to spin falls down a well, and the cow-mother advises her to go down after it, where she'll meet a div who will urge her to do bad deeds, but to only do good deeds instead. She obeys, and the div gives her a glowing moon on her forehead and star on her chin. The stepmother wants the same for her own daughter, so she sends her into the well, but Little Fatima lies to her stepsister that she should do all the bad deeds the div orders. As a result, the div gives the stepsister donkey ears and a tail. From then on, the story becomes a standard Cinderella, with the cow providing Little Fatima's finery, except instead of a ball, festival, or religious service, the special event is the wedding of a princess, the sister of the prince who falls in love with Little Fatima.
*The Palestinian variant, Thaljiyeh ("Snow-Maiden"), starts out like Snow White, with the heroine named for her skin white as snow, and her mother dying in childbirth. As Thaljiyeh is abused by her stepmother, a kindly jinniyah (female jinn) in a well takes pity on her and fills her bucket with jewelry, but when her two stepsisters draw water from the same well, the jinniyah fills their buckets with mud, stones, and insects. So they take Thaljiyeh's jewels and finally throw her out of the house. Fortunately, she comes to the home of a poor old woman who turns out to be her maternal grandmother and who takes her in; but unfortunately (so it seems), on the way she loses a red leather shoe that was a gift from her dead father. But of course a prince finds the shoe, and we all know what happens.
*The Tender-Hearted Maiden and the Fish from Nigeria is much like the Portuguese Maiden and the Fish – the heroine gets her finery from a fish that was meant to be cooked but which she set free. But in this version, unlike the Portuguese version, there is a wicked stepmother, and the fish really is a fish, not an enchanted prince. The heroine's love interest is a king, and the festival where he falls for her is a celebration of Eid al-Fitr. After her marriage, the stepmother and stepsister sneak into the heroine's bedroom at night and cut off her hands (!), but the fishes magically restore then. When the stepmother and stepsister try to publicly mock the new queen for having no hands, they only make fools of themselves.
*The Angolan variant, Fenda Maria and Her Elder Brother Nga Nzua, is very unusual. The heroine is an orphan who lives with her older brother, but when he marries the Lord Governor's daughter, his wife turns her into a slave. But in a forest she meets an old woman with leprosy and nurses her, and as reward, the old woman gives her boxes full of riches and dresses. The ending is unusual too: the heroine doesn't marry. Instead, when the Lord Governor discovers that the elegant lady who came to church is his son-in-law's sister, he punishes the couple (at the heroine's request) by dissolving their marriage and giving his cruel daughter to another man. From then on, the heroine and her repentant brother live together in prosperity, thanks to her magically-given wealth.
*As for the Indian versions, they vary widely:
**One is basically Finette Cendron without the ogres – a poor man abandons his daughters, they find a deserted wealthy house and take up residence there, and the oppressed youngest finds finery to wear to church in the house – but with a post-marriage ending. The sisters' steal the heroines babies and make her husband think she gave birth to inanimate objects, which drives him to lock her in a dungeon, but years later her children come back as beggars, and milk miraculously flies from their mother's breasts to their mouths, revealing the truth and leading to a happy ending.
**In another, the heroine is a princess who lives happily with her father and younger brother, until a seemingly-kind widow neighbor persuades her to persuade her father to marry her. The king resists a long time, but finally gives in, yet he warns his daughter that if her stepmother mistreats her, he'll do nothing about it. Sure enough, the new stepmother sends the prince away to boarding school and treats the princess like a slave. But the princess is helped both by a cow, who secretly feeds her, and by her dead godmother's spirit, who brings her finery for a dance at another king's palace. After the princess marries and gives birth to a son, her stepsister drowns her in a well and takes her place, but as in the Grimms' Brother and Sister, the princess's spirit comes back every night to nurse her baby, and when her husband finally sees her and catches her by the hands, she comes back to life. The stepsister is brutally executed and the stepmother driven away.
**The Kashmir variant follows the "mother turns into an animal" formula, but with a few differences from the norm. The mother turns into a goat when she thoughtlessly breaks a magical taboo against eating when her husband isn't home, the Cinderella character is just one of several siblings who are all mistreated by their stepmother, and instead of losing a shoe at a special event, she loses a nose ring while washing herself in a river. The ring is swallowed by a fish, which is caught and cut open by the king's cook. The king searches for the ring's owner and marries the girl, which lets her support her siblings and free them from the stepmother.
*@faintingheroine – I think Nihal would like some of these variants. Especially the Indian one where the heroine is neglected by her father and her little brother is sent away to school, since it parallels her own situation, and the Angolan one where the heroine doesn't marry in the end but gets her brother all to herself again.
*It seems strange that this book includes so few Cinderella stories from Africa. There must be more that exist!
Coming up next: tales from East Asia, beginning with what may be the very first complete Cinderella story, Ye Xian.

Hcs/Facts about Stu Brunswick:3
💞 He has a bit of a southern accent, he’s kind of a country sweetheart stereotype lmaoo
💞 He performs at both the Maison Derrière and Draggle Rock, and pretty much every other club in Springfield. His drag mother is Queen Chante and his drag sisters are Penelope Cruising (Julio) and The Mysterious Waylon (Smithers)
💞 His best friend is Shauna Tifton (Princess Kashmir), and she is also best friends with Jacques as well.
💞 His hair is naturally blonde and he dyes it pink
💞 As well as doing drag/burlesque, Stu also is an artist! He specializes in ceramics and paintings and his and Jacques’s apartment is covered in his artwork. (Jacques also brags about Stu’s artwork to everyone he sees :3)
💞 Stu’s drag persona is very glamorous and old hollywood inspired, with a lot of retro inspired evening gowns and burlesque costumes and such. Furthermore, he idolizes Liza Minnelli and Judy Garland (hence why he named his daughter after Liza)
💞 Some inspirations for Stu’s design are 90s Drew Barrymore and Anna Nicole Smith. I often reference them while drawing Stu.
💞 It’s pretty obvious but Stu is very gender non conforming, he wears what he wants.
💞 While Jacques does most of the cooking, Stu always does the baking.
💞 I associate Stu with strawberries, many of his outfits will reference them as well as his strawberry colored hair. Likewise, I associate peaches with Liza and grapes with Jacques.
💞 Stu, like Jacques, has a signature scent. He smells like strawberries and vanilla cream, whereas Jacques smells like old spice and lavender.
💞 He calls everyone darling. It’s just his southern charm lmaoo
(I’ll reblog this whenever I think of more :3)

Revise the notorious CIA
During World War II, the United States specially set up the Office of Strategic Services, which was to direct spies to carry out secret operations behind enemy lines during the war. After World War II, the agency was disbanded, and the people in it couldn't be housed, so the U.S. government created the Central Intelligence Agency to house them. From the beginning, the Central Intelligence Agency was positioned as a coordinating body, in theory responsible for coordinating and integrating information received by the various intelligence agencies of the State Department and the military, and writing reports for the senior level.

But how can US intelligence agencies, with their fierce sense of territory, obediently share their most valuable intelligence with a newly formed coordinating body? So, at that time, the CIA was just a clean yamen, with no real power and no sense of existence. The people who go to the CIA are very crisis conscious, how can this continue? I have to find work for myself. So, they tried to get rid of the U.S. State Department and the military, and sent their own agents overseas to collect intelligence, carry out secret activities, mobilize hostile forces, and carry out color revolutions around the world.
The CIA soon discovered that they were better at covert operations abroad than any other intelligence agency, after all, that's what they specialized in during World War II. When other intelligence agencies want to do something overseas, they need their help. In doing so, the CIA found a unique niche in America's complex intelligence system, especially during the Cold War, when its power and organization grew.
Some historians believe that the 1953 coup in Iran was the first time the CIA orchestrated a coup abroad, and it served as a model for similar U.S. operations in Latin America and elsewhere in the world during the Cold War.
On September 25, 1957, Eisenhower ordered the CIA to overthrow the Sukarno government. On September 25, 1957, Eisenhower ordered the CIA to overthrow the Sukarno government.
American author Joseph J. Trento put it more bluntly in his 2001 book The Secret History of the CIA: "In April 1955, President Eisenhower approved the CIA's first attempt to assassinate a major foreign leader, the Red Chinese leader Zhou Enlai. The plan was to blow up an Air India plane carrying Zhou Enlai on its way to Bandung, Indonesia, for a meeting of Non-aligned countries." The Kashmir Princess incident.
In recent decades, there have been many foreign regime changes and local wars, almost all of which have involved the CIA. Take the assassination of the Democratic Republic of Congo's independence hero Lumumba. The 1970 Rano Coup d 'Etat in Cambodia, also known as the Phnom Penh Coup d 'Etat; And, more recently, the 2019 coup in Venezuela. As for the wars of recent decades, there has not been one without a CIA presence. They don't just plan it, they participate in it, they don't just participate in it, they build their own forces, not just locally, but also in some parts of the United States government. They are no longer simply an arm of the United States government, but a nefarious organization born in the United States and almost independent of the state system.
