Hell Hath No Fury

Sky didn’t have time to dodge the punch aimed at his face as Y/N hit him square between the eyes and he staggered back in surprise. He looked up from his throbbing and bleeding nose and up at the really pissed off Ice Fairy. Sky’s never seen Y/N so angry like this. The surrounding air was so cold and sharp that it actually hurt Sky to take in oxygen. “Y/N? What the fuck are you doing—”
“HOW COULD YOU!” Y/N practically roared as other students started to stare and whispered about them. The keeper of the Ice Serpent and the Prince of Eraklyon in the middle of an argument? Very big news.
“How could I what?!” Sky asked. “What the fuck did I do to deserve to be punched in the face for?”
Y/N sucked in a harsh breath as his voice deepened and Sky could see his breath as he spoke every word from his mouth. “You and your psycho girlfriend!”
Sky frowns. “My girlfriend? No, Diaspro is not my girlfriend, Y/N. She’s not even my fiancé anymore.”
“Well, whatever you guys are to each other, you guys should be thrown in jail for your fucking magical arson.” Sky’s eyes widened at that. Diaspro wouldn't be that stupid, would she?
The prince looks at the Fairy as he gulps. “Y/N, what did she do to you?”
“She set my house on fire, Sky! She set me on fire and told me, ‘Surprise, bitch. I bet you thought you saw the last of me.’ It's a good thing her magic wasn't strong enough to kill me, and luckily my parents weren't hurt,” Y/N said. He began to cry and Sky looked so guilty, even if he had nothing to do with it. “Y/N, you have to believe me. I didn't know about this. I swear.”
“Why should I believe anything you say, Brandon? Oh, wait, it's prince Sky of Eraklyon? You had no problem lying to me for four months and making me believe that you like me. That you cared about me. When all this time you were stringing me along while you were engaged to someone else. Then I was humiliated in front of the whole school while you comforted her and left me broken and crying on my knees.”
“Wait, if you would just let me explain—”
“—Enough! No more lies. I'm going to find your slutty little princess and then I'm going to make her wish that she was never born.” Y/N turns on his heels, an ice trail following him as Sky runs after him. “Y/N, wait, you can't just do this.”
Y/N turns to Sky, fist frozen over as he looks at the blonde-haired boy. “Do you want another one?” He indicated to his fist.
Sky shook his head no.
“Good.”
Y/N walked off as Sky watched him go.

I get where people are coming from when they say Diaspro in Winx lost the plot for the sake of being turned into a minor villain and that's all once Valtor enabled her to do what she did in S3, but I feel like that was a reasonable narrative choice. It's only a love potion at that point (while I could go on all day about the ethics of love potions, of course, a later season has her straight up trying to do direct murder). She's a noble, guards will do her dirty work, and I understand that she would feel like getting revenge on Bloom while getting back together with Sky. She was promised a position — romantic AND political — she nearly had and then it was taken from under her by a random fairy who wasn't even "supposed" to be in the running. I don't think what she did was nice, but it makes sense for the story and for her character for her to want to reclaim her position in the way she did. Sky's love was an accessory, in part, to her political ascension, and thus he is again rendered accessory and accomplice by the love spell. And, sending guards after threats seems to be the thing to do in the magical universe if you're a disgruntled noble, so it's probably not unfamiliar for Diaspro to have seen occur before or want to do. It's not a uniquely rotten response any more than Radius' behaviour towards the monster (who, he didn't know it, was Stella). If we fault her for this action rather than only the intention behind it, we need to examine how the worlds in Winx Club deal with threats to their monarchs in general, which sounds interesting but I frankly don't have time for tonight. Diaspro did wrong, but she didn't do uniquely wrong there, and Eraklyon has the punitive security structures in place to have enabled that.
Diaspro's later appearances seem to flatten her motives and the symbolism behind why her relationship with Sky was important and what she does about it (who cares what Diaspro's political aims are and how her status might reflect how she deals with problems, the audience needs to see Bloom thrown into fire I guess), but I feel like seasons 4-8 weren't really that good anyway, so I can't even claim this as a fault of the writers doing Diaspro specifically wrong instead of them just doing the whole show wrong at that point. It might be related, and it might be a coincidence, but a lot of the writing choices seemed to become more flat to me right around when the art shifted to that lifeless godawful Flash simulacrum of S1-3's art.
Also like... idk but if some long-haired hottie wizard in a sick coat and contemplative eyeshadow told me he could help me get my promised chance at both romantic and political success back, I'd at least hear him out, yknow, see what he had to say (<- don't trust me I simp for Valtor)

Only three things to add to this:
1. He should've mentioned that Diaspro was done much better in the comics, even when many of the same problems that ended up plaguing the show ultimately made it into there.
2. He also should've mentioned that in her last appearance she was at least not treated like a villain anymore and even got a pet black pegasus who was specifically characterized and described as hostile but not evil, just misunderstood due to having been hurt in the past. And he immediately took a liking to Diaspro. The comparison is obvious and suggests at least the Season 8 writer had an awareness of the Diaspro problem and wanted to mend it a little.
3. No joke: if the upcoming Winx Club reboot does not fix said Diaspro problem when/if it adapts her, then I will lose all interest in it. It's the 2020s; it's ridiculous for this sexist writing that treats romantic rivals as inherently evil even when they're the victim to still happen.

Winona the Witch of Enchanted Steel and Diaspro the Fairy of Gemstones have arrived!
After Diaspro's plot to once again try to kill Bloom failed (again), Diaspro decided that enough is enough and let go of her obssession with Sky and to return home to her kingdom of Amethia. Soon after arriving she learns that her antics have made her fall out of favor in court, causing her to loose her right to the throne. Angered and determined to get back her birthright, Diaspro asks for the aid of her bodyguard and now lady in waiting, Winona. The witch didn't want to at first, as she'd rather not deal with Diaspro's unwanted reputation but after a year of hard work and positive political stunts, Winona feels proud of working for her lady. Soon, the two develop a strong, yet secret, relationship after a night in Eraclyon turned steamy.

spoiler?
I have decided to roll with the elements of Icy's backstory we were given in s8 but I have moved them around a lot. Icy does come from Dyamond which used to be a colony of Domino but they fought for their independence and earned it. Icy was the Crown Princess (because we NEED witch royalty and Icy is very regal) coming from a line of witches. Her mother was the only one who did not have magic in their bloodline. Then the Shaman Witch attacked the royal family over an old blood feud and cursed Icy's little sister - Sapphire - to be a polar fox but she herself was neutralized after that. Icy was set on breaking the curse and every failure to do so outraged her to the point that she became a descendant of the Ancestral Witches (no one is born a descendant; people can turn into one via negative emotions running rampant). She managed to break the curse on Sapphire then but her sister never developed magic just like their mother. Icy sort of cut contact with her parents when she enrolled in Cloud Tower and her mother didn't attempt to bring her back home or at least keep in touch because she found Icy's temper too volatile for her to make a good queen and she turned her attention to Sapphire as her successor to the throne. Icy and Sapphire speak from time to time and Sapphire will make appearances in the storyline - she's the one that Pepe ends up with and she'll also be affected by Tritannus' mutation spell cast over the Magic Dimension making history repeat itself when Icy can't help turn her back into a human.

Vigilante sh!t is such a Diaspro song, a ted talk by me.
Draw the cat eye, sharp enough to kill a man = have you seen her? She looks drop dead gorgeous. Always.
You did some bad things, but I'm the worst of them = she and Sky have definitely kissed. She has kissed him. Maybe she’s done something more to him …
Sometimes I wonder which one will be your last lie = he lies and lies and lies. You are betrothed, man! Don’t go around flirting with other girls! (Also the whole switch with Brandon. Not cool)
They say looks can kill and I might try = they do. Drop dead gorgeous, as I said. Princess and Fairy outfit = both iconic.
I don't dress for women
I don't dress for men
Lately I've been dressing for revenge = Just … YES.
I don't start shit but I can tell you how it ends = not her fault she was engaged to him. Oh, but she is gonna get revenge.
Don't get sad, get even = she doesn’t care for your tears, your excuses, she wants payback.
So on the weekends
I don't dress for friends
Lately I've been dressing for revenge = see above.
She needed cold hard proof so I gave her some
She had the envelope, where you think she got it from? = SHE TOLD BLOOM. Not Sky. Sky was forced to explain after Diaspro had told the truth.
Now she gets the house, gets the kids, gets the pride = well, I guess Bloom goes home after the whole chaos
Picture me thick as thieves with your ex-wife = the duo we have been deprived of. Diaspro and Bloom, riding into the night
And she looks so pretty
Driving in your Benz
Lately she's been dressing for revenge = Bloom should have pulled a Princess Diana. I strongly believe Stella has. And Diaspro has, duh.
She don't start shit, but she can tell you how it ends = Bloom goes away. She ends the whole thing. Was it even a thing if he was already engaged?
Don't get sad, get even
So on the weekends
She don't dress for friends
Lately she's been dressing for revenge = the Princess Diana thing, see above.
Ladies always rise above = Diaspro DESERVES to come out on top. To fall in love with an even richer, mightier, handsomer guy. Or, as Cher teaches us, to BE the richer, mightier, handsomer guy.
Ladies know what people want = she knows exactly what she wants. And she isn’t afraid to go and get it.
Someone sweet and kind and fun = and respectful. And trustworthy. And, for Diaspro, I would stress the fun part. I mean, fun.
The lady simply had enough = indeed she had.
While he was doing lines
And crossing all of mine = he makes the rules (his family, but anyway, he doesn’t question them) and crosses them over and over again.
Someone told his white collar crimes to the FBI = Bloom is the FBI in this scenario. Bloom and all the people in the Magic Dimension
And I don't dress for villains = that’s you, Sky.
Or for innocents = Bloom. But Diaspro herself, too.
I'm on my vigilante shit again = doing the Gods’ work and exposing men and their bullishit
I don't start shit, but I can tell you how it ends = with you in the gutter and she on top.
Don't get sad, get even = advice for all us girlies to follow.
So on the weekends = and always, actually
I don't dress for friends
Lately I've been dressing for revenge = Let’s all learn from Diaspro (and Princess Diana 🫶🏻)

The reasons why I think Stella and Bloom's friendship is amazing and is not something we often see
Tumblr media
Or why Fate is trash
One aspect of Winx club I always loved growing up was the friendship between the girls. They all love each other, despite their very different personnalities and having some rough times.
While I could write an essay about almost every duo in Winx club, I do think that Stella and Bloom are the most interesting to analyze.
Even though they are part of a friend group, the show doesn't try to hide the fact that Stella and Bloom are each other best friend, they even say so themselves.
This friendship is truly groundbreaking when we think about it, for one simple reason: Bloom and Stella's archetypes usually hates each other when depicted together in media.
Hear me out.
Stella is the girly girl, the mean girl, the popular girl with a big mouth who can appear shallow. Plus, she's blond. She bases a big portion of her self-worth in her apperance. Basically, she's the Regina George of Winx Club.
Bloom, she's not like the other girls. There's nothing wrong with her, she's attractive and a sweetheart, yet she attracts attention for being different (in the show there are a few reasons for this, first she's from Earth and she's also the keeper of the Dragon Flame, making her a god-like existence in the story). She has messy hair, dresses in jeans, doesn't really care about her apperance... She's a fish out of water type of character, the character everyone can and wants to relate to. She's the Cady of Winx Club.
These two were designed to hate each other.
Taking into account Stella's nature, we expect her to hate Bloom out of sheer jealousy. Bloom doesn't try and gets all the attention, she's the new girl who turns out to be the one girl more powerful than her, she's also a princess. We could say that everything Stella can do, Bloom can do better.
And yet...
Stella would kill a bitch for Bloom. Never in the show does she display any sort of ill feelings toward Bloom, on the contrary, she spends her time trying to get her to be more confident in herself and her abilities. She's sweet with her and does her best to uplift her. I can say with confidence that Stella is the one person in the show who loves Bloom the most (tied with Daphne), like Sky doesn't hold A CANDLE to her.
When Bloom leaves on missions by herself she's worried sick, she's always clinging to her, teasing her, looking out for her. She's always the one there for Bloom when things get hard (when the Trix steal her powers, when Sky gets engaged to Diaspro, when she thinks of her family...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Bloom, she just loves Stella. She's the reason her dream became reality (it was her meeting with her which caused her to learn her true nature), and Stella took her under her wing to make it easier for her to fit into this new world. She saw from the beggining that Stella was willing to lie for her, to fight for her and she couldn't help but love her, even if she had a big mouth and quite the personnality. Stella brought lightness and laughter into her world, she was her anchor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For real, just look at her reaction when Stella throws herself from the cliff in season two. She spends the episodes after that obsessing over finding and saving Stella.
These two can't live without each other even though one is the 'your typical mean girl' and the other is 'not like the other girls'.
Heck, everytime the villains freaking spy on the Winx these two are all over each other.
Tumblr media
I think the heart of their friendship is their first meeting. Stella was what Bloom had dreamed of all her life: she was a real fairy, the living personnification of her dreams. She's the one who made her dream a reality. As for Stella, she was saved by a human who risked her life and stood up for her even though she didn't stand any chance and didn't know her. Bloom was just lucky she turned out to be a fairy. Bloom then took her to her house and took care of her, without expecting anything in return, which caused them to bond instantly.
Tumblr media
That relationship was freaking transgressive for the time, and Fate's writers deserve jail for what they did to their friendship. Bloom and Stella fighting over a boy and Stella turning into the typical insecure and jealous mean girl? Hell no.

Look at these queens 🥹
