Fall of the Crystal Empire - 05 Birthday Special
Celestia & Luna race to a distant empire on the fringes of Equestria to save Templar from an unknown threat. Little do they know of the coming darkness that threatens to engulf the world! Little do they know that a new evil has been born.
The tale of the fateful day that doomed an entire empire to vanish for a thousand years. The tale of a day that would change the course of history for of all of Equestria.
So begins the origin of King Sombra.
It's my birthday, so I guess that means I have to post something. How about another
page of Fall of the Crystal Empire? It's totally not because I have it storyboarded out, or because I wanna
get to a part I really really really really wanna do...
Now you know who made it.
Another reason I wanted to get this out was because this section is an homage to
a Tumblr series I followed EONS ago that involved Sombra.
I've had this planned for years, waiting to finally get around to
do it. Originally this whole part would be it's own thing, complete
with a better reference to the blog I enjoyed. I was going
to include another character from it, but she was an
original character and I could never in my right
mind include her, but if you know which blog
I'm talking about, a version of her is present. Well,
off camera. Maybe getting some coffee.
Next Week: Orion returns to finish his challenge, Rightful Heir next week.

The thing I’m actually worried about writing wise with Dragon Age: The Veilgurad, is how unaddressed or back tracks they’re going to be about the Crows.
This is an organization that bought children, stored them in the attic of an abandoned factory stuffed with children, made those children fight eachother for scraps to earn their way into the organization that bought them, and then literally tortured them as young adults to teach them how not to reveal crow secrets if they were captured and tortured on the missions later.
Origins draws very strong comparisons to how the MO of both the templars and the crows is most often buying and indoctrinating small children as young as they can find them to become on demand killers for their own purposes. Zevran is hunted and almost killed were it not for a befriended warden when he shows the slightest signs of being something other than obedient crow property.
But here a teaser with an antivan crow saying that the crows “fight for everyone and we always will” and Lucanis is over here being like “Oh I’m a crow and I kill Venatori slavers as my fav target, hate them,” kinda thing, while being the closest thing the crows have to a prince being the favourite grandson of one of the talons.
I just have a feeling like they’re going to heavily sanitize the crows and try to make us go “they’re cool heroic freedom fighters” rather than. Not, they bought Zevran as a child, tortured him, kept him in cramped, crowded, dirty conditions, made him fight for scraps to stay alive, and taught him to murder targets given to him on pain of death and use his sexuality as a tool to do so to the degree that he has a trauma response in origins where he snaps about feeling like a sex object.
Like, no doubt I’m gonna love Lucanis. Loved him in the stories too. A mage whose magic manifests as “the fade makes my eyes itchy and I prefer to stab” and also targets imperialists and slavers specifically? Yeah. Awesome premise! Bit if there’s no moment of “you love the crows because you were in the extremely privelege position of being born into a high power family within the leadership while other members were bought and indoctrinated as child soldiers and it’s not all freedom fighting and cool assassin fun times” I’m gonna be very disappointed

not only do you have to kill anders (noooo), side with the templars (boooo), and romance seb (dlc and f!hawke only), you also have to get him to 100% rivalry
although, lbr, seb is the only companion they did rivalry well with. it's more about changing his values and the path he wants to take than just doing things he doesnt like and making him hate you. definitely makes doing a rivalmance not so bad
i think it's severely under-explored that, in possibly the rarest timeline imaginable, hawke can potentially become both viscount of kirkwall and princess of starkhaven

Order of the Garter
The Most Noble Order of the Garter is the highest order of knighthood in Britain and the most exclusive with traditionally only 24 knights as full members at any one time, along with the reigning monarch and the Prince of Wales. Created by Edward III of England c. 1348 CE, the chivalric order was one of the first of a growing trend where rulers and noble knights sought to differentiate themselves from the increasing number of knights in the late medieval period. The order's annual gathering at Saint George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, with its magnificent procession of members and retainers in full regalia, maintains the traditions of pomp and pageantry for which the Middle Ages are rightly famous.
Origins
The Order of the Garter was created by the English monarch Edward III (r. 1327-1377 CE) around 1348 CE and dedicated to the Virgin Mary and Saint George. The king was still in a celebratory mood after England's famous victory over a much bigger French army at the Battle of Crécy in August 1346 CE and was eager to further emphasise the nation's martial prowess by creating an elite order of knights. In addition, by the 14th century CE, the number of knights had greatly increased so that the upper ranks of the nobility began to look for some way in which they could differentiate themselves from other knights and create a sort of private members club. These elite brotherhoods were designed to also pull together the greatest fighters and most useful military knowledge and experience so that in times of war the order would prove a useful part of the army's command structure. Finally, such secular chivalric orders were a good way for a sovereign to ensure the loyalty of their best knights who otherwise may have joined an order whose members, instead, swore allegiance to the church (the then-defunct Knights Templar being an example of such an order).
The Order of the Garter was the first of such chivalric orders in England, but there had been several already formed elsewhere, notably the Order of the Sash by King Alfonso XI of Castile and Leon (r. 1313-1350 CE) and the Order of Saint Catherine in France, both founded during the 1330s CE. The pomp and ceremony of the Order of the Garter was something more, though, and it would spawn many other famous orders at home and abroad such as the Order of the Golden Fleece, created by Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy (1419-1467 CE) in 1430 CE.
Just like the legendary Round Table of King Arthur, the order of the Garter was, from the outset, intended to be a very exclusive club indeed. Its first two members were Edward III himself and his son, Edward the Black Prince and Prince of Wales. Alongside this pair were 24 knights, known as Companions of the Order of the Garter, all of whom had fought at the Battle of Crécy. Each member was granted the right to wear a dark blue garter as a symbol of their membership and new rank. A specific coat of arms was created for the order, which includes the flag of Saint George enclosed in a circle made up of a garter. Besides the knights, there were 26 priests and 26 'poor knights' (faith and charity being great chivalric ideals) who were expected to pray for the souls of the more illustrious full members, although they did receive free clothes, food, and lodgings at Windsor castle.

How about Roleswap! Auditore Family?
What happen if one of them (Giovanni, Petruccio, Federico or Claudia) takes the place of Ezio?
Like Ezio is one of the executed and Federico is the only Auditore man that survives?
Or Claudia is the only Auditore child left?
So let’s set some ground rules first.
Ezio can only replace one of them. This means that the only one of them will survive.
This does not take inconsideration what would happen to Desmond’s bloodline unless we set this as a time travel scenario where Desmond fucked up so badly he got Ezio killed instead. We’re focusing on the Auditores in this one.
.
Giovanni:
Giovanni would probably be angst-y as hell for one main reason. He watched all of his sons died, unable to save them because he trusted the wrong man. His relationship with Maria would take a serious hit and he’d grow to be overly protective of Claudia. He would probably choose to escape to Spain like Ezio did before Mario reminds him that he was being hunted. Even if he was to go elsewhere, the Templars will hunt him and his family down.
Another additional wrinkle in this one is that his relationship with the Medici could change as well. He could start to understand that his closeness with Lorenzo only made it so much easier for the Templars to find him and his family.
He would absolutely not hesitate to kill Rodrigo Borgia and the Apple would be able to tempt him as well.
.
Federico:
This would actually be the closest to Ezio’s story beat. The only real difference is that Federico would see himself as weak and a failure for being unable to save his father and brothers. He’d be more serious than Ezio and it would actually take less time for him to be trained as he was already in the middle of his Assassin training anyway.
He would also not hesitate to kill Rodrigo Borgia if given a chance. There would also be a scene with him and Cristina similar to the flashback in ACB. In this one though, Federico would apologize for being unable to save Ezio.
.
Petruccio:
Oh, man. We’re going to play with Petruccio a bit.
A situation we can use is that Petruccio learns of the Shroud and gets Claudia to help him find it. He uses the Shroud to heal his body but this has the dire consequence of awakening the Isu inside the Shroud that starts haunting him like his own personal Bleeding Effect hallucination. In this one, Petruccio is much more connected to the POEs because of the Shroud.
But you know what would be fun?
If Petruccio continues to have a weak body and replaces Claudia as the ‘administrator’ of Monteriggioni. But that’s what they want everyone to believe. Claudia becomes his knight while he becomes the mastermind hiding behind the huge shadows cast by their uncle. The death of his father and brothers shed whatever innocence he had left and he becomes a ruthless player, moving all the pieces in the board while pretending to just be a weak sickly young man. An inspiration that would guide Machiavelli’s hands in writing the Prince.
.
Claudia:
Honestly, Claudia would probably spend a year or more being lost. Her mother is catatonic, her father and brothers are dead, she only managed to get her mother out because her maid knew people who helped them and contacted her uncle to meet with them.
She wouldn’t even think of escaping to Spain. Where would they even stay there?
She knew that the best choice for her is to marry a powerful man who could protect her and her mother but, at the same time, she couldn’t even think of any man touching her without throwing up.
Learning the sword had been her way of trying to ‘heal’ herself. Mario saw her potential and taught her the ways of the Brotherhood.
She wanted revenge but, more importantly, she wanted to protect her mother and the second home that accepted them.
Honestly, out of all of them? Claudia would be the most ruthless of them all because she knows she can’t afford to be weak.
She can’t allow herself to be weak.

Presenting my four ‘canon’ Dragon Age OCs - all rendered in Veilguard at their canon ages!
Tumblr media
The Hero of Ferelden, Elissa Tabris. Born 9:09 Dragon, aged 44. From Denerim. Champion of the Fifth Blight, slayer of Urthemiel. Her later-stage blighting has led to somewhat premature aging, but her determination and ferocity have not dulled even after 23 years. She had begun making plans with Zevran for her calling - he had suggested he kill her, but she refused to let her husband do that.
Tumblr media
The Champion of Kirkwall, Amelia Hawke. Born 9:07 Dragon. Presumed dead 9:41 Dragon. Considers herself to be from ‘the Free Marches’ and ‘originally from Ferelden’ but deflects further questions. Occasionally develops a blank stare if the Dalish are mentioned out of guilt for her role in ending an entire clan at the need of a friend. That pales in comparison to the crime she’s really wanted for, being an accomplice to the destruction of Kirkwall’s chantry and the mass of death that follows. The guilt drove a wedge between her and her love Merrill.
Is ‘lost’ in the Fade a few years later after electing to stay behind - on the onetime suggestion of Asha’bellanar - and to force Loghain to continue his redemption tour.
Both of Hawke’s siblings survive, with Carver a longstanding member of the Grey Wardens while Bethany went on to marry Prince Sebastian Vael and became Senior Enchanter of the Starkhaven College of Enchanters
Tumblr media
The Inquisitor, Vilkė Lavellan Rainier. Born approx 9:05 Dragon. Age 48. Resisted fiercely early attempts to label her the ‘Herald of Andraste’. Her advisor, the disgraced former second in command of the Kirkwall Templars Cullen, got her entire clan killed near Wycome shortly after being named Herald, for which she never forgave him. Fell in love with the wildman of the woods, the man claiming to be Warden Blackwall. She believed when he said his feelings for her were the truth, and the pair remain together as of 9:53. Loat interest in matters of the Inquisition after discovering the fate of Ameridan, and after Solas’ betrayal for which she swore vengeance.
She and Thom retreated to a homestead just on the periphery of Avvar holdings, where Thom is primarily a dutiful house-husband and father to their two kids (a boy, 6 and girl, 4) when not out offering redemption to another lost soul. She drank from the Well of Sorrows in 9:41 but the voices requested to leave in 9:48 and found their way to Morrigan. She takes up the mantle of Inquisitor one last time upon the declaration of the Sixth Blight. Took a renewed interest in ancient elven artifacts in her 40s and cofounded the Veil Jumpers alongside Merrill.
Tumblr media
The Champion of the Fade, the Godslayer, Hero of the Sixth Blight - Jordana ‘Rook’ Mercar. Born 9:30 Dragon, age 23. As an infant was found by Charon Mercar of the Tevinter military abandoned on battlefields near Ventus. He and his wife took her in and raised her as their own. She was denied entry into a prestigious military cadet program by virtue of the Tevinter military’s sexist, and later spent her first night in jail after defending some elves from an attack when she was 15.
Varric discovered Rook after receiving word from the high ranking diplomat - a cousin of King Bhelen Awducan - of what had happened in the liveration of a alave ring near Nessus, a dwarven trading partner. Rook was trained up to be Rook’s second in command.
She was involved with the deaths of the final two archdemons as well as the ‘god’ Elgar’nan, while her actions tricked Solas - the former Fen’Harel - into binding himself to the veil.
The greatest highlight of Rook’s life came in the midst of her worst, as she met the Veil Jumper Bellara Lutare. The pair took it slow (too slow for eventual Lady of Honor at their wedding Neve Galkus). Though Jordana has a rich life of her own, she sees herself first and foremost as Bellara’s knight-protector.
Rook and Bellara marry one year to the day of Elgar’nan’s death. The marriage largely follows Dalish customs sans mention of the Evanuris, with Rook proving her worth to Bel’s ‘clan’ the Veil Jumpers, per elven tradition, having singlehandedly contributed more to elven knowledge of their lost culture than any human in preserved history. (And it turns out their gods had ijt coming)
Is the biological daughter of Ser Jory from Dragon Age Origins and his wife Helena, the latter having fled Highever for Tevinter when Arl Howe’s men raided. Helena died shortly after giving birth in a Qunari attack. Rook learns the truth of her father from records salvaged before the fall of Weisshaupt and both Morrigan and the Hero of Ferelden’s testimony. They are later as a group able to track Helena’s journey.

I get the need to be compassionate and gunho about the Circle kidnapping children and forcing them inside their ranks, that's a very real problem.
But I don't understand why that compassion turns off for the Chantry and Templars when, canonically, we are told most of the recruits are taken in as children and teenagers.
both the Circle and Templars indoctrinate their ranks as children and use and abuse them in different ways--the difference is that the Templars manipulate those children into believing that this is right and a good cause, and you should want to fight for them. It doesn't take away from the accountability of a Templar's actions to point this out. Just look at Alistair--an 'orphan' forced into the ranks of a templar and despite him knowing better (i think because from the beginning he was outlier and wasn't forced fed Andrastianism propaganda), he had to participate into the system in order to survive.
Alistair got lucky when Duncan recruited him; he saved him from a life in service to a system that would have drugged him in submission and killed him. His own saving grace would be, at that point, if his brother had claimed him--but by then it might have been too late.
But what about the orphans and neglected children who were also forced into Templar service? Who aren't lucky enough to have a Duncan or be the bastard prince for Ferelden? Who will reach 18 years old and have to take the Chant of Light--who can't leave because they made up their lives in service and Jesus christ can you imagine being thrown into Thedas society with the label of a failed Templar recruit? In societies that glorify that service? Why aren't you strong enough? Did you not believe that Maker enough? What is wrong with you?
Pointing all this out doesn't exempt Templars from the horrors they commit, but it doesn't give a background on why the so many would flock to its door despite the warning signs and moral dilemma. And that's with outsider point of view. Let me remain you the average person wouldn't know about the abuses, the crimes, or substance abuse. Why would the Chantry allow the general public to know that? No what they sell is the life of a Knighthood and Heroism and Dedication of the Maker.
Through story and myth, they teach children the Templars are the people you should want to be. That's how it starts, and we know how it ends every time.

Anyway back to Lily. She has helpfully given me another opportunity to give you a preview of what the Dragon Age stream will be like. Finish Inquisition and make your terrible 3rd video already Lily. I finished it in a month doing only 2 streams a week, including The Descent and Trespasser DLCs (and most of Hakkon, I never beat that dragon tho lol.)
Tumblr media
[Lily's Post]
Dragon Age: Origins - Lily you played the City Elf origin. You got extra elf ghetto content. Did you miss the entire main story subplot of Loghain allowing Tevinter slavers to kidnap elves from Denerim's alienage under the guise of quarantining people due to a plague? Were you and your wife too busy talking about pointless bullshit over cutscenes to pay attention? Or did you just spacebar hammer your way through? Did you even finish the game?
Dragon Age 2 - Lily you managed to play almost the entire series without realizing the Templars are an arm of the Chantry. That they're a monastic-like order that people are typically recruited into as children. That the Chantry keeps control of them with the lyrium dust that also fuels their magic cancelling powers and will eventually addle their senses like mercury poisoning.
If you think Tranquility is "brainwashing" then... you REALLY weren't paying attention. Making mages that have passed their Harrowing into a Tranquil is actually against Chantry law. Kirkwall's Circle was doing it illegally because it's one of the worst Circles in one of the most violent cities and their Knight-Commander was going insane under the influence of red lyrium. That's not every Circle in the world. No matter what Anders says.
Speaking of Anders... you did finish the game right? You seem to be completely ignoring what was the inciting incident for the conflict boiling over at the end. Don't make me cheat and peek at your video ahead of time, I like reacting to videos blind.
Dragon Age: Inquisition - What the fuck are you even talking about? If you mean the Exalted March on Halamshiral that happened centuries ago in canon. In fact there's so many elves in Halamshiral its more like the entire city is an alienage and the humans wall themselves off.
Or else you're talking about devout Andrastians like Cassandra poking at a Dalish elf about believing in the Maker? Cause only the Dalish aren't Andrastian you know. Most City Elves are. Skill issue either way, my very fiercely Dalish Inquisitor made friends with her. My Quiz didn't even let her stupid egg boyfriend remove her vallaslin.
You haven't even finished the game yet. Of course that hasn't stopped you from writing your script as you go along. And you're clearly not paying attention to the plot if that's your only take away.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard - Yeah Lily every single critic and fan is complaining about the sanitization of the world in Veilguard because it was cobbled from a disastrous idea of making an MMO out of the series after they cancelled development of a fourth game twice already. It's a miracle we got fucking anything.
I won't pretend I didn't enjoy having every single one of my lore theories validated. And being surprised by a few lore reveals I didn't even see coming. I still enjoyed seeing cities in the north of Thedas we'd only ever heard of. I was very happy to see the Grand Necropolis. Also Emmrich is best girl, best new character in the entire series, 10/10 no complaints, I love Mr. Rogers Vincent Prince.
Tumblr media
Dat combat system is still amazing though. Too bad it came at the expense of the writing this time.
