the birds are coming
Birds are not real. Birds are robots made by the government. Birds are spying on you. One day, the birds will kill us all. They will suck our blood and sing our praises. Make every meal a party!
Bird Speakers – iPod Nanos, $39.99, Amazon
Aaahhh…. I just hear the air guitars and badass drumroll. Bird Speakers are not that birdie. But they do work to make sounds that mimic the screech of birds, all from your iPod, through the help of some really cool USB dongles. I totally think I could see it working with a lot of music from Tool, Pink Floyd, U2, and Shania Twain.
Bird Walk – iPhone, $9.99, iTunes
iPod Bird Walk is a beautiful way to bring the birds into your home. Just hold up the receiver, and it will give you the clearest sounds possible from around you. Of course, the bird in my pocket is loud as hell, so I haven’t been able to really test this product yet. But it sure does sound like a bizillion birds chirping, and it’s something that I have wanted to try. Check it out!
Bird Magnet – iPhone, $14.99, Amazon
Yep, you heard me right. Bird Magnet is a yellow plastic ring that you get to stick on the back of your iPhone. It makes your phone more bird-proof and, hopefully, gives the bastards something else to peck at. They don’t like plastic much.
But one day, regardless of what you do, the birds will come for us. And they will kill us all. You know, by getting inside our ears and making our eardrums bleed. There is nothing that we can do about it. It’s happening.
Since no one can stop the birds, I propose that we will just have to use our imaginations and come up with creative ways to defeat them. I suggest Bird Pinball, Bird Mario, Bird Cops, Bird Tactics, Bird Darts, Bird Snacking, Bird Pie Eating, Bird Moth Repellent, Bird Ammo, Bird Courting, Bird Power, Bird Genes, Bird Incest, Bird Nicer, Bird Smarter, Bird Invader, Bird Thinker, Bird Insight, Bird Chef, Bird Brewmasters, Bird Drinker, Bird Grounders, Bird Zen, Bird Science, Bird Guy, Bird Quieter, Bird Hunter, Bird Navigation, Bird Scare, Bird Cubbers, Bird River Runner, Bird Time Traveler, Bird Claws, Bird CEO, Bird Genius, Bird Teacher, Bird Boss, Bird Full Cycle, Bird Brother, Bird Tender, Bird Keeper, Bird Keeper Job, Bird Planter, Bird Galler, Bird Quitters, Bird Left Behind, Bird Pants, Bird Probie, Bird High Flight, Bird Nemesis, Bird Trustee, Bird Highway Pilot, Bird Knowledge Seeker, Bird Football Coach, Bird Hero, Bird Heartbreaker, Bird Lousy, Bird Soaring, Bird Super Nova, Bird Wonder, Bird Whisperer, Bird Moralist, Bird Moralizer, Bird Nostalgia, Bird Smart. Then, we will try to put on our best when the birds come. And we will not give in, for we are the bird killers.
–
What new ways are you coming up with to counter the birds?

Slim-down Monarchy
For those who don't get it and are like ChArLeS dOeS hIs SiBlInGs DiRtY, a slim-down monarchy, as he wants, does NOT mean:
It means:
To illustrate even better, here's the line of succession at the moment (WITH THOSE WHO ALSO ARE WORKING ROYALS IN BOLD):
1. The Prince of Wales
2. Prince George of Wales
3. Princess Charlotte of Wales
4. Prince Louis of Wales
5. The Duke of Sussex
6. Prince Archie of Sussex
7. Princess Lilibet of Sussex
8. The Duke of York
9. Princess Beatrice, Mrs. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi
10. Miss Sienna Mapelli Mozzi
11. Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Jack Brooksbank
12. Master August Brooksbank
13. The Duke of Edinburgh
14. Earl of Wessex
15. The Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor
16. The Princess Royal
Now, what King Charles III wants is to keep things small, narrow and simple, as much as possible, because the more working royals, the more the tax-payer has to pay, but also the more work the Royal Family can do. But obviously those of us tax-payers in the UK really don't want to be giving them more money.
So King Charles wanted to have less working royals (he currently has those put in bold, plus spouses, plus himself and his wife, and some of the late Queen Elizabeth II's cousins with royal titles). The normal thing is for a monarch to have siblings and children who, if they're adult, are all working royals. This is because the standard is for the monarch to name his children working royals, and once they die, that means those other children are the new monarch's siblings.
So some of Queen Elizabeth's cousins are working royals because back in the day they were probably made working royals by their grandparents when they were royals (much like Prince William was made working royal as the Queen's grandson). You don't lose the job unless you want to, or you leave the UK, or you do something disgraceful, so they still have the job. King Charles probably didn't see the point on taking the jobs away since he's only got one child (when normally a monarch would've had more) to work as well, and no grandchildren who are old enough to work as well, and since they've done a great job so far, even though they're older.
For the same reason, King Charles III wouldn't have taken the job from his sister (who's the hardest working royal of them all, and with the biggest load of commitments) nor his little brother the Duke of Edinburgh (who's also known, along with his wife, for being incredibly hard-working and loyal to the family).
That means that when he wanted to slim-down the monarchy, what he meant was that if Prince William and Prince Harry were both working royals (which isn't the case any more), and at any point both of them had adult children who could be working royals while Charles was still king, then perhaps only William's children (and perhaps only George or George and Charlotte, but not Louis) would be working royals. That would've meant that Harry's children would've gotten to have relatively normal lives (as do all of Harry and William's cousins, to an extent, and Princess Anne's husband and children, to whom they didn't give royal titles so they could have lives as normal as possible) and pursue their own careers and personal interests, with more freedoms, in the way Harry seemed to want. When choosing who to make working royals, it only makes sense to do it on the way down of adults in order of line of succession, because the whole idea of being a working royal is preparing for either being or devoting your life to supporting a monarch.
So obviously, it wouldn't make sense now to try and narrow the working royals. I mean, who do you remove? King Charles will likely just wait for his elderly family to die before naming Prince George or Princess Charlotte, once they're adults, working royals.
And obviously, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their children at the moment have no chances of becoming working royals, unless they really do a massive reconcilliation with the royal family. It wouldn't just be about charming King Charles III; they'd have to charm the whole Privy Council.

Guys, I have the craziest news for you.
So I have been planning a trip to Italy for two weeks in the spring. For those of you who don’t know, I have two degrees in the History of Art specializing in Florence during the Italian Renaissance - same as Kate (by chance, I didn't get two degrees just because Kate had them lol). I’ve been studying Italian art for almost 10 years - it’s about time I make my first trip to Italy.
I have an $800 flight credit from Delta Airlines due to a crazy flight delay from Ohio over the summer. The credit expires on 10/23, so I only have a few days left to book, but I couldn’t settle on dates, and I was starting to freak out a little bit because the deadline is so close. I knew I wanted mid/late April or early May, though, but I just couldn’t pick.
I work on an international team out of New York, so I have professional contacts all over the world. Someone I work with out of Europe suggested that I fly to London and work out of our London office for a week. I’ve been twice but never long enough to do it properly, touristy things and just exploring, and the time difference between NY working hours and London working hours works very well in my favor such that I could do my regular job from London, have plenty of time to explore, make a weekend pit stop in Paris, and then take the two weeks off for Italy.
I got authorization to work out of London this week so that’s definitely ready to go. I just couldn’t settle on dates. Last weekend, I almost booked my flights for 4/9-4/29. Not for any reason, just because it seemed like it fit just fine in my range of options.
I’m glad I didn’t, because this week, Buckingham Palace announced the date of the coronation… Saturday, May 6th, 2023. The first weekend in May. Right in the mix of dates during which I was thinking of traveling. I didn’t have a set date, so I was flexible on that 4/9-4/29 range.
Long story short, I’ve been planning to go to the coronation when the time came for almost 10 years. And, by pure coincidence… I’ll be in London. No separate trip required. I’ll be in London for the coronation. Can you believe it? I’m actually going to the coronation!
Booking flights this weekend. 4/29-5/20 in Europe. Through the morning of 5/7 in London. I’ll need recommendations of where to stay, what to do, how and where to explore during that first week before I GO TO KING CHARLES’ CORONATION. Can you believe it? Can you BELIEVE IT? By pure coincidence! I’ll be there! I’d always planned on being there, and now, I’m ACTUALLY going to be there, and I didn’t even have to plan a trip around it! It fell right into my lap!
I’m so excited! So many people I’ve been dying to see in person! Charles, Camilla, William, Kate, George, Charlotte, Louis, Harry, Meghan, (Archie, if I'm lucky), Beatrice, Edoardo, Eugenie, Jack, Edward, Sophie, Louise, James, Anne, Tim, Peter, Savannah, Isla, Zara, Mike, Mia, Lena…
And, of course, in that setting, at the coronation, the most regal of all events:
His Majesty King Charles III, Her Majesty Queen Camilla, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales, Their Royal Highnesses Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis of Wales, Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex (His Royal Highness Prince Archie of Sussex)… Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr. Eduardo Mapelli-Mozzi, Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr, Jack Brooksbank, Their Royal Highnesses The Earl and Countess of Wessex, Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and James, Viscount Severn, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, Peter Phillips, Savannah and Isla Phillip, Zara and Mike Tindall, Mia and Lena Tindall…
Coronets! Tiaras! Orders! Sashes! Pomp! Pageantry! Foreign Royals! The ENTIRE British Royal Family at one of their most important ceremonies that happen a handful of times in a lifetime, if you’re lucky! The Coronation of King Charles III!! By pure accident, and I’M GOING TO BE THERE!!! Like I always planned!! Can you guys BELIEVE IT??

Buckingham Palace has confirmed Princess Beatrice has married in a private ceremony with her grandmother Queen Elizabeth II in attendance.
Beatrice married real estate entrepreneur Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi on Friday morning (local time) at The Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge in Windsor.
The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and other close family members attended, adhering to COVID-19 guidelines.
Beatrice is the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.
In February, the palace originally announced Princess Beatrice and Mr Mozzi would marry on May 29 at the Chapel Royal of St James's Palace, but the coronavirus pandemic forced a change of plan.
The chapel was the location for the wedding of Beatrice’s great-great-great-great grandmother Queen Victoria to Prince Albert in 1840.
Beatrice's younger sister, Princess Eugenie, married wine merchant Jack Brooksbank at Windsor Castle's St George's Chapel in October 2018.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wed in the same location in May of that year.
