Note
Feed the ask box, "I love asks about tiaras" edition 👑:
Which are your top ten favorites? Are there any that've been out of the public eye for some time that you hope are still in one piece? Obviously this can go for any other form of jewelry, too.
One I hope hasn't been broken down is the Boucheron Great Wave.
Oh, my top ten would have to be:
1. Queen Alexandra's Kokoshnik
2. The Baden Fringe Tiara
3. Grand Duchess Irina Alexandrovna's Rock Crystal Tiara
4. The Greville Emerald Tiara
5. Empress Alexandra Pearl drop tiara
6. The Lusitania Tiara
7. The Spanish Fleur de Lys
8. Countess of Roseberry's Tiara
9. Essex Tiara
10. Russian Matrimonial Tiara
I would really like to see more of Queen Mary's collection in England because it's literally just sitting in a vault somewhere. We saw her diamond bandeau on Meghan Markle but there are at least five other tiaras we haven't seen in decades. I would really like to see the Russian Imperial collection but most of it has been broken up and destroyed so I doubt we will ever see the full collection.

↬ The Boucheron Lattice Tiara
Another giant in the royal family's treasure trove, the Lattice Tiara, also known as the Gordon Tiara, takes some serious experience to pull off. Made by Boucheron in the early 20th century, the tiara wasn't originally of royal origin, passing from jewelry box to jewelry box for the better part of forty years. Eventually, in 1941, it was scooped up by the Hon. Mrs. Martha Gordon, a society hostess who was a friend of King James II and Queen Katherine, then the newlywed Duke and Duchess of Woodbine. The Gordons were spectacular hosts, but by the early 60s the couple had racked up a significant amount of debt, fuelled by Mrs. Gordon's expensive taste in clothes and her husband's gambling addiction. These debts eventually caused the couple to be evicted from their West Warwick penthouse, with several of their belongings being sold or repossessed. To alleviate their friends' hardships, James and Katherine purchased several pieces of expensive jewelry from the couple. The idiocy of Mrs and Mr Gordon is something to behold. Dowager Queen Anne wrote in her diary around the time of purchase. I warned Jimmmie against such an outrageous purchase, but he was adamant. Kitten and I look after our friends, he said. One wonders what those two have that's worth such a pretty penny! It's better not to indebt yourself to your inferiors, but I suppose I'm close-minded in my old age. Jim said that, too. To this day the full extent of the purchase is unknown, but it is said to have included a diamond necklace, a pair of diamond chandelier earrings, a sapphire necklace, a gaudy fringe necklace, and at least two tiaras. It was the Boucheron tiara, with its delicate lattice patterning that became a favourite of Queen Katherine. I admit, I've coveted this [tiara] for years [. . .] It never suited Martha's head, anyway. — Queen Katherine in a private letter, spring circa 1962 For the remainder of her life, Katherine wore the lattice tiara consistently. Even after her husband died in 1970, she continued to sport the tiara at high-profile events. The tiara was an interesting part of Katherine's tiara evolution, showcasing how the Queen graduated from small, light-weight tiaras, to heftier, more dramatic pieces. When Katherine died in 2018, it was inherited by her son, King Louis V, and in 2026, it was worn by Tatiana, Princess of Danforth for the first time. The upgrade in jewelry, despite the princess's widowhood, was viewed as a reaffirmation of her status and role as the mother of the future sovereign.
HM Queen Katherine wears the Gordon tiara at the George League Gala concert on April 25, 1970. She pairs the tiara with teardrop earrings also acquired in the 1962 Gordon Purchase and Queen Matilda Mary's Wedding Necklace
HRH Tatiana, Princess of Danforth wears the Gordon tiara at a banquet for international heads of government on May 23, 2027. She also wears the Gordon fringe necklace. The banquet was attended by over 5000 delegates.

“Catherine can't pull off the Strathmore Rose tiara. Don't get me wrong, she's a gorgeous woman and the tiara on her looked great. But, the tiara gives off a youthful vibe and should be saved for her daughter or daughters-in-law. It would be a gorgeous tiara for Prince George's future wife. I'd rather see Catherine in the Queen Mary's fringe. It's more powerful looking and would suit her after the online abuse she suffered in the past year.” - Submitted by Anonymous

Coronation Jewels
Even though there were no tiaras for the coronation of King Charles III, there were still plenty of stunning jewels on display. Here are my favorite jewelry looks.
Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom
Queen Camilla wore an altered version of Queen Mary's Crown with Queen Victoria's Coronation Necklace. I can't quite tell which earrings she's wearing but they are not Queen Victoria's Coronation Earrings. Overall she didn't wear as much jewelry as I was hoping for but she looked wonderful so it was probably the right choice.
Queen Suthida of Thailand
Queen Suthida wore Queen Sirikit's Sapphire Suite that contains beautiful and absolutely massive sapphires. She also wore the Nine Gems Belt which is meant to bring good luck to the wearer.
Queen 'Masenate of Lesotho
I wish we had a better look at Queen 'Masenate's necklace with mysterious blue gemstones. It's stunning and seems familiar but I can't place it.
Queen Sibonelo LaMbikiza of Eswatini
I also want a better look at Queen Sibonelo's big diamond necklace. It looks like there are a row of rubies along the outer edge. Update: I found a better picture!
Queen Azizah of Malaysia
Queen Azizah looked lovely with her diamond fringe necklace and multiple brooches.
Queen Máxima of the Netherlands
Queen Máxima took the no tiaras dress code personally and wore the biggest diamonds she could. Her earrings are made from the large diamonds of the Stuart Tiara and she wore another big diamond on her belt from a stomacher that belonged to Queen Emma.
Princess Eugenie of York
Princess Eugenie debuted the Albemarle High Jewellery Diamond Collar Necklace and Earrings by Garrard. I would not be surprised if they were a loan because together they cost $162,000.
Queen Letizia of Spain
Queen Letizia also wore big diamonds with the Queen Ena's Diamond Earrings from the Joyas de Pasar.
Crown Princess Mary of Denmark
Crown Princess Mary debuted slightly simplified forms of the turquoise jewels given to her by Queen Margrethe last year for her 50th birthday. The jewels are Danish royal heirlooms and even if they weren't already adaptable I'm sure they can still be worn in their previous forms and knowing Mary maybe even a few more.
What were your favorite jewels worn at the coronation?

Queen Elizabeth's Last State Banquet
OTD Queen Elizabeth hosted the state banquet for the American President and the First Lady.
The Queen donned the Burmese Ruby Tiara, which was made in the 1970s. She paired it with a much older suite of jewels: the Crown Rubies, which were originally set with opals but transformed to ruby jewels by Queen Alexandra.
The then Duchess of Cornwall wore familiar jewels, including the grand Greville Tiara. She paired it with her pearl choker necklace with the imposing pink topaz clasp.
The then Duchess of Cambridge paired Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara with diamond and sapphire fringe earrings that belonged to the Queen Mother. She secured her brand-new Royal Victorian Order sash with her Oak Leaf Brooch and a four-stranded pearl bracelet.
The Princess Royal wore diamonds and aquamarines, including the Aquamarine Pineflower Tiara. The diamond and aquamarine brooch that secured her Garter sash was once the central element of the tiara
A thrilling tiara moment came courtesy of the then Countess of Wessex, who debuted a remodeled version of her wedding tiara at the banquet. The tiara’s elements have been reconfigured, and the base has been completely redesigned. She’s also wearing a diamond demi-parure we’ve seen before (but for which we have no known provenance)

Happy 4th wedding anniversary to Princess Beatrice of York and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi!
The couple tied the knot privately on 17 July 2020 at the Royal Chapel of All Saints, Windsor. The couple are believed to have begun dating in September 2018, and their engagement was announced on 26 September 2019.
Beatrice's wedding dress was a remodelled Norman Hartnell dress that was lent by the Queen, and she wore the Queen Mary Fringe Tiara that was also worn by the Queen at her own wedding.
The couple has a daughter Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, born on 18 September 2021. Edoardo has a son - Christopher Woolf - from a previous relationship.

I think Catherine should wear the Strathmore rose tiara as a headband, one of the fringe tiaras and maybe even a third inbetween since the fringes are tall. She can wear both the emerald and sapphire choker necklaces along with a few other necklaces of varying lengths. Add some more rings, bracelets and other assorted trinkets so that even the ghost of Queen Mary would say you might have to take one piece off. Then she can talk with the press and say suck it Meghan all of this is mine and will never be yours. My evil side is very strong today.
Catherine has something far more valuable than all the diamonds in the world. The love and respect of her people :)

Sunderland's Royal Jewel Vault (12/∞) ♛
↬ Queen Matilda Mary's Pearl Fringe Tiara
Out of all the tiaras in Sunderland's royal jewelry box, Queen Matilda's Pearl Fringe is perhaps the most remarkable. The tiara, which Queen Irene once called a wall of diamonds, is instantly recognizable due to its classic design with an intriguing twist. In 1908, the Prince and Princess of Danforth celebrated their silver wedding anniversary. The occasion was a great excuse for lavish celebrations and, more importantly, for Sunderland's courtiers to curry favour with extravagant gifts. Predictably, this turned gift-giving into a fierce competition between aristocratic families, who vied for the most expensive gift. To produce a magnificent gift, a group of prominent women formed an uneasy alliance. The three women included: the Marchioness of Bathurst (wife of the current Conservative prime minister), the Countess of Bloor and the Countess Farnsworth (the paternal great-aunt of the future Tatiana, Princess of Danforth). Pooling their combined wealth, the women were able to afford a major piece of jewelry for the princess. They quarrelled throughout the process, notably over the tiara's design and who would present the gift at Chester Palace, but the princess herself was impressed with their effort. The resulting tiara was a spectacular fringe tiara of white and yellow gold set with diamonds. Much to Matilda's delight, the tiara bore similarities to Queen Caroline's Fringe Tiara, a favourite of her estranged mother-in-law Queen Alexandra. The tiara featured sixty brilliant-set graduated bars and drop pearl toppers which cloud easily removed. Futuring over 400 diamonds, it cost around $7,480. Princess Matilda took an instant liking to the tiara, choosing to debut it at the wedding of her eldest surviving son, the Duke of Woodbine to Lady Anne Sunningdale, in 1913. At the wedding, the tiara generated interest from the press and public, who marvelled at the tiara's dazzling beauty. When Matilda Mary became queen in 1921, it continued to maintain the title of her most recognizable tiara. When Matilda Mary died in 1945, it was inherited by her daughter-in-law Anne. Despite having not one but two other fringe tiaras, wore the tiara consistently throughout her husband's reign. Posing in it for multiple portraits. Queen Anne died in 1973, and along with most of her personal jewels, she bequeathed the tiara to her granddaughter-in-law, Queen Irene. The piece quickly became a central part of Irene’s jewelry collection, being worn frequently throughout Irene and Louis's first European tour in 1973-4 where the press once again gawked at the tiara's enthralling row of diamonds. It is one of the few tiaras Irene has worn consistently throughout her tenure as queen, having appeared during foreign tours, at royal premieres, and at state banquets across the world.

How may tiaras does Anne own
These are the tiaras that she has worn in the past
(Descriptions from The Court Jeweller)
What I think are in her personal collection;
✨ Festoon tiara
This delicate diamond festoon tiara was given to Princess Anne in 1973 when she christened a ship. (Not a bad thank-you present!) It’s intricate and pretty, which made it a perfect wedding tiara for Anne’s daughter-in-law in 2008. Anne still wears it regularly, including an appearance at a Guildhall banquet during the Spanish state visit in July 2017.
✨ Princess Andrew’s Meander Tiara
Princess Anne has been wearing this diamond bandeau, featuring laurel wreaths, anthemions, and a Greek Key (or meander) pattern, since she was a young woman. The tiara originally belonged to her grandmother, Princess Andrew of Greece and Denmark, who had given it to Queen Elizabeth II as a wedding present. The Queen loaned it to Princess Anne for some of her early tiara appearances (including a state visit to Austria in May 1969) before giving her the tiara in 1972. Anne still wears it regularly today, and she also loaned it to her daughter, Zara, as a bridal tiara in 2011.
✨ Aquamarine Pineflower tiara
This Cartier diamond and aquamarine tiara, which has a unique pinecone design theme, was a wedding anniversary gift from King George VI to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in the 1940s. In November 1973, the Queen Mother offered it to Princess Anne as a wedding present. She’s been wearing it ever since (including at a state banquet in June 2019), and has even made a few design tweaks along the way.
In the family vault;
✨ Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara
In November 1973, Princess Anne borrowed Queen Mary’s diamond fringe tiara from her grandmother, the Queen Mother, for her wedding to Mark Phillips. Anne was the second royal bride to wear the tiara after her mother, Queen Elizabeth II (who now owns it). Most recently, it was worn by another family bride: Princess Beatrice of York.
✨ Double Row Meander Tiara
This diamond kokoshnik tiara, made of two rows of Greek Key (or meander) patterns, is a little bit of a mystery. Made in the nineteenth-century, it originally also accommodated an aigrette plume. It belonged to the Queen Mother, but we’ve only seen it worn once by a royal woman: Princess Anne’s outing in the tiara for a state banquet at Buckingham Palace during the Chinese state visit in November 2005.
✨ Cartier Halo Tiara
Like two other members of the royal family — Princess Margaret and the Duchess of Cambridge — Princess Anne’s very first tiara was the delicate scrolling halo tiara made by Cartier for the Queen Mother. The piece was loaned to Anne by her mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and she wore it often in her teen years for events like the State Opening of Parliament (October 1967)
✨ Birthday Portrait Tiara
For her twenty-first birthday, Princess Anne sat for a series of official commemorative portraits. She wore an ice green gown with a diamond scroll tiara and posed in front of a background specially painted by Gordon Davies for the portrait session. The tiara has never been seen on a royal woman before or since, so there’s a general consensus that it was probably a loan. (Why would the Brits borrow a tiara? Hard to know. Perhaps they wanted a specific look?) The images were published in British newspapers in August 1971.
✨ Pearl Bandeau
Princess Anne has also worn one more mystery tiara in recent memory: a gold-hued bandeau, which appears to be set with large pearls. She donned the tiara for a state banquet at Windsor Castle during the Indian state visit in October 2009. We still don’t know anything more about it, including its provenance, and we haven’t seen it in public since.
I would love to see her wear the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara (although she probably won’t now that Cam has 🥲), there is also an absolutely gorgeous tiara called the Teck Tiara that has crescent moons, roses and leaves (I don’t even know if it’s still in the main family anymore) 😍
Please drop your favourite tiaras that you’d love to see Anne wear in the comments 😍
#so sad that she missed the last state banquet 😭😭😭#fingers crossed she can make it to the next one 🥹#no going near horses hooves for the foreseeable please…#princess anne#princess royal
