Here's the request that @dynastinoble asked me, and its the five Primos characters as the Scooby doo characters =^////^=
Again, I'm sorry if it took a lil' longer to make this request... Like how I said multiple times, I'm often super slow with requests and trades... TT////TT

So, Primos ended up coming out after all. I've seen a few of the episodes and it's…okay. It's nothing groundbreaking by any means. Honestly it's pretty standard. Tater is an overall decent protagonist. While she can be kind of dramatic and a bit annoying, you understand why she feels the way she does. She's a kid and it's normal for someone her age to not always be kind and understanding to others. She's honestly more relatable and sympathetic compared to a lot of the always sunny and kind even when they're being hit with a baseball bat protagonists we've had in recent years.
The stereotypes, while definitely there, aren't as in your face and distracting as some people thought they'd be. And while it's still early in the show and we haven't gotten to see everyone in depth, the characters seem pretty dynamic and have a lot of potential.
One character specifically I'm pleasantly surprised by is Big Nacho. From his first appearance giving Tater noogies and twisting her arm, it was reasonable to think he'd just be some one dimensional bully character, but he's actually not. Big Nacho is a sweetheart. He's happy to help around the house with cleaning and other tasks, saying that he and Nachito were “raised right”. Speaking of Nachito, the dynamic of the brothers is actually so adorable and loving. Big Nacho loves how much his younger brother looks up to him and he genuinely tries to be a good role model for Nachito, even if he doesn't always get it right. Sure, Big Nacho can be kind of gross and play too rough, not always knowing his own strength. That's pretty typical teenage boy behavior, but he's not outright mean for the sake of mean. His family means a lot to him, and spending time with them really does make him happy. We see this with how upset he gets when Lita and Tater ditch their trip to the pizzeria. We also learn that Big Nacho is dyslexic which was a surprise, but he ends up helping Tater in helping Nachito by sharing the ways he's learned to deal with his dyslexia.
I hope we get to see more character development like that for all the cousins. While it's not a huge deal, it's definitely not as terrible as people were making it out to be. Primos had a rocky start, but I genuinely believe it deserves it's chance.

oh wow, it looks like Disney's Primos is coming out - I thought they shelved it!
I showed my parents the trailer, and they immediately said that the main character looks just like I did when I was little lmao, because it's true
Because, like, 1)I'm Chicane, and we have the exact same coloring, 2)I had short hair and braces from ages 9-11, 3)I had many many pairs of jean shorts, 4)glasses, lol, and 5)my mom shaved my unibrow every month when I was little
And then, of course, the premise - when I was 8 I had to live with my cousins for Summer (+ one month of school) before we moved in with my grandparents bc *~*technically we were homeless for several years*~*
How many cousins? Well, first with only 3, but then there were problems, so then we moved in with a different tía, who, at the time, had 7 kids.
(if anyone's curious, I have 20 cousins total, with 1 more on the way)
Being in single 3 bedroom house (with 2 makeship rooms in the garage) with 7 cousins, 4 adults, and my little brother was. Um. An experience.
But anyway, after I showed my parents the trailer, I told them this show was supposed to premiere a year ago but had controversies after the theme song dropped, then I showed them the original theme song to see if anything caught their attention.
And sure enough, absolutely nothing. My mom questioned the nickname Nachos, bc it can sound kinda iffy, but nothing else caught their attention.
(and oh, for context, they both grew up in LA, both growing up translating for their parents)
I showed them some clips of why people hated it, and yeah, they were confused bc they would say "oye primos," not "oigan primos." I guess my grandparents weren't concerned with teaching exact grammar at home, more concerned with making sure that my parents were learning english at school
everyone being mad at "terremoto heights" was um. weird. because we're constantly making earthquake jokes, because we're waiting for The Big One, which we know will inevitably screw us over and possible strand us without water and home if/when it comes. but we still joke about it, you know? my whole class made earthquake jokes, and my parents made earthquake jokes when they were in school and they lived through the LA quakes
it makes me wonder if Animaniacs released their "A Quake" song today, would people have been up in arms as much as they have for Primos?
but I guess changing it is fair, if Disney wants to have an international release. even if making earthquake jokes is part of SoCal culture.
they were really surprised about the nickname controversies, because here in SoCal, those nicknames are like. pretty common. yes, even the one that they ended up changing. it's almost as if words have different connotations in different places..........
ANYWAY the biggest thing is that they agreed that the voice actress was out of line (although they think it's obvious that the "shithole" comment was poking fun at trump and that that was being taken out of context in bad faith) but - and this is an inside joke I'm not gonna elaborate on - makes sense considering her name
(IF YOU'RE A MUTUAL OR A TRUSTED FOLLOWER, if you're curious about the joke, I WILL dm you to explain if you ask)
but yeah. it's obvious that this is Disney's answer to The Loud House and The Casagrandes - that being said, all the vitriol towards this shows seems very unfounded. this show just seems very Chicano, moreso than other things I've seen.
and like, as I've explained here, this show is very, heavily relatable to me specifically. none of my white friends understood the pains of living with a bunch of your wild cousins - but multiple of my Chicana friends did. at different schools districts even.
it's just... a lot of the things people are shouting is "bad representation" is literally just... my life. And, apparently, the creator's life, considering it's based on her childhood.
I think it's nice that she made a show about Chicano culture. It does suck that apparently no one knows or even seem to want to know what Chicano culture is.
I just can't help but to wonder if I ever make something about my life, my lived experience... will people call me bad representation? idk.
anyway, I'll probably check the first few episodes out. I'm not sure I'll watch the whole series, since, lately, Disney's shows have been kinda a miss for me. but maybe I'll be surprised. I'm willing to give it a shot

⚠️Long Post Alert⚠️
Alright I've seen a lot of (negative) buzz around Disney's new show "Primos" so I'm gonna put my 2 cents in
According to the Primos wiki, the show is about "Tater, an eccentric 10-year-old girl with big dreams and, unbeknownst to her, a certain “it factor” that makes her exceptional. When her 12 cousins (“primos” in Spanish) move in for the summer, they help her discover just what it is. Tater’s aspirations and larger-than-life imagination are seen via entries in her super-secret diary, which turn her deepest thoughts into grandiose animation sequences."
Tumblr media
FIRST, it's yet ANOTHER piece of children's media about the main character + their large Latin American family.
Upon doing some research apparently this show is about the creator's personal experiences, which okay valid. But when creating media that meant to represent a community it would be better to offer a DIFFERENT perspective rather than give us the same trope that has been done to DEATH.
Tumblr media
And I'm gonna be real with yall, I LOVE Coco and Encanto, but both movies also fall under this trope. Not all Latin American families live with their extended family, we don't need ANOTHER piece of media perpetuating the stereotype.
Also, Disney has been putting out a few shows on Disney Channel and Disney Junior that are clear knock offs of Nickelodeon shows. Some examples:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And...hm....lemme think....a kids TV show about a Mexican girl and her quirky large Mexican family getting into some Mexican™️ shenanigans...where have I seen that before...?
Oh right
Tumblr media
Yeah the premises are slightly different, but it's essentially the same trope so already right off the bat Primos feels like a knock off version of The Casagrandes.
SECOND, there are many stereotypes already present in the series just from tbe opening theme. Many of the cousins fall into stereotypes themselves, particularly the names. Some the names of the cousins are Gordita, Big Nacho, Nachito, and Cookita. I've seen people justify the use of these names by saying many Latin Americans are given these names as nicknames, which is true. But then again, having a characters named Nacho and Gordita in a show that's supposed to be about LatAm representation is just in bad taste. It's giving "Marco Diaz from Star vs. the Forces of Evil being half Mexican and being obsessed with nachos for some reason but not representing his Latino heritage in any other way other than him wearing that Day of the Dead themed costume in The Blood Moon Ball ep." It feels lazy, and of course, stereotypical.
On TOP of this, the word "Cookita" in many LatAm countries is slang for pussy and the suffix "-ita" means small. And the character with this name is the BABY. So yeah maybe naming the B A B Y character something that to many Spanish speakers means "little pussy" in a show ABOUT Spanish speaking Latin Americans probably isn't the wisest decision.
Another detail people have been pointing out leans into negative Mexican stereotypes is the use of the "yellow filter".
Tumblr media
Now I'm gonna be real and say I'm not 100% convinced about the yellow filter being used here. The show takes place over the summer, so the use of yellow might may be used to give the feeling of how hot it is, but I can totally see why Latin Americans would find this offensive.
Also the name "Terremoto Heights" has been heavily criticized. Terremoto means "earthquake" in Spanish and the earthquakes are common in LatAm countries. Then again, show takes place in LA, where a lot of earthquakes occur too. So Im not 100% convinced that this is flat out racist either, but it's definitely in poor taste.
THIRD, the thing that is being SLAMMED at the most, is the improper Spanish grammar and the creator's response to people pointing it out.
In the theme song, the phrase "¡Oye! Primos" is used a lot, which means "Hey cousins!" The issue with this phrase is that "Oye" means hey but in the singular tense, and "Primos" is plural. If you plug in "¡Oye! Primos" to Google translate you'll get Hey Cousins regardless, but in Spanish the phrase is not grammatically correct. In order for it to be grammatically correct the phrase would either need to be changed to "¡Oigan! Primos", "oigan" being the plural word for Hey, or "¡Oye! Primo" and make primo singular. People have been telling this to the creators of the series and well...they haven't exactly been taking it well.
Here's what the voice actress of the main character Tater, Myrna Garcia Velasco said her on social media (Instagram I think, I could be wrong) in response to the bad Spanish:
(If you can't listen to it I'll just summarize. Velasco says that Spanish is the language of the Spanish conquistadors and the only reason why Latinos are LATIN American and not indigenous is because of the Spanish, and to stay mad if you think her incorrect Spanish is an issue. She also brings up how they're "trying to make a good show" for kids who "don't have a grasp on any language" or something?? Idk that's pretty much what she's saying")
Basically this response doesn't make any fucking sense. "Spanish isn't our original language so it doesn't matter if I speak it correctly or not. I'm a NATIVE Mexican so it doesn't matter if I speak Spanish correctly or not"
???????
Girl what the fuck does this mean??? News flash, but the majority of Latin America has been speaking Spanish for CENTURIES. You go to Mexico or most other Latin American countries and you'll find them speaking SPANISH. Yes it's because of the Spanish but it's part of our culture now whether you like it or not. It's like saying "oh it doesn't matter if I speak English correctly or not cause English isn't the US' ORIGINAL language anyway" ?????
Now, the story IS about a mixed kid. Tater is half white half Mexican, so if Tater is a Latina girl who doesn't know Spanish fluently (otherwise known as a "No-Sabo" kid), then the imperfect Spanish would make sense. If the idea behind Primos is to represent the Latin American kids who don't speak Spanish, then yeah thats fine and it was a directoral choice. But judging by Velasco's response, that doesn't seem like thats the idea?? She immediately got defensive and brought up the Spanish colonizers?? Which is relevant??? HOW???
On top of that, one member of the creative team, (not 100% sure who) called someone a "Grammar N@zi" for pointing out the grammatical errors and, well...
Tumblr media
That's def not helping their case.
How the HELL are you gonna make show about a Spanish speaking Latin American family and NOT SPEAK SPANISH PROPERLY??? How the HELL are you gonna start beef with SPANISH SPEAKERS over whether or not it's important to speak Spanish CORRECTLY when portraying SPANISH SPEAKING PEOPLE IN MEDIA??? Yes slang exists, yes different LatAm countries speak Spanish differently, but grammar still exists??
OVERALL: Do I think Primos is this horribly racist dumpster fire? No. Are there MANY choices in this show that are just in poor taste? Absolutely 100%. Are the responses from the creative team outta pocket? Yes of course.
If you ask me, I think the main reason why people are so outraged over Primos is because the stereotypes and tropes are tired and dated, and people KNOW what writers are capable of. The response of this teaser, sandwiched between The Owl House ending and the premier of Across the Spiderverse, which have STELLAR LatAm rep, is proof of that. Luz Noceda, Miles Morales and Miguel O'Hara are SHINING examples of good SPANISH SPEAKING LatAm representation in children's media. We CAN have good LatAm protagonists in mediation, we've SEEN IT. We don't need all the stereotypes and overused tropes, so it makes sense why so many LatAm people feel like Primos is offensive and a step backwards.
Disney is getting lazy, they need to get their shit together

Something Blue
A @lachowedding2023 Fic ***
The blood stain wouldn’t come out.
Nacho had been scrubbing the left lapel his wedding suit jacket for what felt like forever. The stain had faded—once it dried, it would probably barely be noticeable. The jacket was black, after all.
But he’d know it was there.
After giving the fabric one last rinse, he hung the jacket over the towel rack. It was only then that he noticed that a little of the blood had gotten onto his shirt as well—his shirt was red so maybe that’s why he hadn’t noticed it at first, but now that it was drying the spot had changed to a brown. He started to take off his shirt but then decided he didn’t care anymore. Seemed fitting for him to walk down the aisle in blood-splattered clothes.
If he walked down the aisle at all.
He grabbed the bottle of tequila he’d snagged from the kitchen on the way to the bathroom and sat on the toilet, then took a big swig. What the fuck was he going to do?
He’d had three swigs by the time the first knock came. “Um, Nacho?” It was Domingo, his best man. “You okay in there?”
Nacho gritted his teeth. “Yeah. I’m fine.”
“Really?” He sounded skeptical.
“Yeah. Really.”
“Cool, cool.” A pause. “So—are you going to come out soon? Because it’s been like, an hour. And the ceremony is supposed to start in forty-five minutes, so…” He trailed off, seeming to hope that Nacho would jump in. Nacho didn’t.
Domingo cleared his throat and tried again. “So, um—on a scale of one to ten, how mad are you?”
That question wasn’t really coming from Domingo. Nacho’s anger sparked again. “You can tell him it’s a ten.”
“Okay,” Domingo said miserably before departing.
Nacho took another swig of the tequila—the last one, he promised himself. The last thing he needed to do was get drunk, but the world had already started to get a little hazy around the edges.
Soon enough, there were more footsteps—at least two people, and both of them were Salamancas. He had a second sense about the whole family by now.
There was a swift rap on the door. “Nachito, it’s me," Lalo said. "I just wanted to say that I perfectly understand why you’re upset. It is unacceptable that your outfit was stained, and I have brought someone to apologize to you, if you’ll hear it.”
“Hey, Nacho,” Tuco said mournfully. “I’m sorry blood got on your suit and shit—which looks amazing, by the way, to anyone who has any fucking taste, unlike that piece of shit No Doze, who should know to keep his fucking mouth shut. Your black and red color scheme is not tacky. When I heard him say that, I couldn’t let it slide. Disrespecting you, on your wedding day? Uh-uh! I don’t fucking think so!” His voice grew louder until he sounded like he was going to start swinging his fists again. “That little bitch! Any disrespect to you is disrespect to me, because you’re a Salamanca now. So he got exactly what he deserved!!!”
“You’re getting off track, primo,” Lalo muttered.
Nacho heard Tuco inhale. “I’m sorry the blood got on you—I should have dragged him away before I beat his ass.”
Lalo cut in. “At cartel weddings, it’s considered bad luck if at least one person doesn’t die. And look, now we’ve gotten it out of the way! And I’m sure the stain isn’t too bad.”
“A little club soda will get that right out,” Tuco agreed. “If you want, I could—”
“No,” Nacho nearly shouted. “It’s fine. Everything is just fine!” It was probably the least convincing lie he’d ever told; he was usually much better at putting up with Salamanca bullshit, but he was at his fucking limit.
