Well the last two days were big clowning days for everyone! Early Friday we had Chaos Dad commenting on a tweet from March.
Source: David Jenkins Twitter Next, fans noticed that the "Got a really good feeling about 2024" post that David took down from Instagram was re-added. Our friend cremeishere noticed that the post had been removed from David's Instagram after one of the cancellations (around March 22). Today however, it was noticed that it was back. Do we know exactly when it came back? No idea-- but Honking ensues!

== Love Notes ==
Hey there Lovelies! I hope you all are getting some much needed rest this weekend! It's been a lot lately, huh? The world, elections, so many different countries struggling, online -- everywhere's been pretty crazy lately. I know a lot of you have so much on your minds, and rightly so. When so much is happening all at once, seeing struggles go on in your safe spaces too can make things so much harder to cope with. It is okay to feel sad or upset if your safe space doesn't feel the same way it did right now. It doesn't mean it won't feel safe again one day. Life and situations ebb and flow, and circumstances change, as much as we always want good things to stay the same. Good things can come from change too. Our magnificent and kind friend @xray-vex shared a screenshot on twitter the other day of this tumblr post and I thought it was incredibly appropriate to how a lot of people have been expressing they've been feeling lately.
I know sometimes it feels like you have to respond to that tweet, or get into that discourse, but if you don't have the energy, just remember you don't owe anything to anyone. You are wonderful the way you are, and you deserve to enjoy your space too. If it feels like too much, take a break, watch a new show, read a new book, step away if you need to. Or if re-watching our pirate show would help-- feel absolutely welcome to do that too. Whatever YOU need for YOU. It will be different for everyone, and there is no shame in wanting to do something different to make you feel better. There will always be folks here for you if you decide to step away and come back, so don't be afraid to if you need to okay? We love you crew, we care so much about you, and your health. Be well <3

Dont give it 5 minutes if you cant give it 5 years. Meghan Markle next phase heres how I think its going to pan out by u/WorthSpecialist1066
“Don’t give it 5 minutes if you can’t give it 5 years.” Meghan Markle next phase, here’s how I think it’s going to pan out So Megxit was in January 2020.I think January 2025 (Catherine’s Birthday, naturally) will be the big announcement of Meghan’s conscious uncoupling from Prince Harry. She gave it 5 years to become a Hollywood A-lister and basically everyone has shunned and laughed at her. Netflix is dumping her. With any luck the King, Prime Minister and Prince William are figuring out how to get rid of the Sussexes. Definitely no titles for Meghan to monetise in the case of a divorce.Hence she will rebrand herself and the Kids, Meghan Sussex. (No more Markle association for her,)I think the Instagram account sussxroyal (with it’s currently 9 million followers (at one point I think it was 11 million) will be taken out of mothballs. Meghan has been busy changing colourful outfits in Nigeria and Colombia in anticipation of curating her social media content. (All she’s ever been is an influencer). She will start flogging those kids: Lily and Archie Sussex.Harry will get his £7million from the Queen Mother when he turns 40in a few weeks. That is literally the last payday.im sure she’s made sure that all their money is comingled for their California 50/50 divorce. i think, she’s got her eye on some billionaire with a charitable foundation, who is against the UK. Probably Chinese or Russian. Hence all the flashy, skin baring outfits on the latest trips. Harry is literally and metaphorically being edged out of the picture. The discard is happening, The penny dropped when I saw this video linked on another thread.https://youtu.be/YXfvuxPKUOU?si=Gy5F_KM2CkUtINn2around the 20 minute mark, they talk about how she reinvented herself as a “foodie” to get with Cory Vitiello. Who at the time was a “hot chef” in Canada. ( I hadn’t realised how targeted it was as being British, I’d never heard of Cory.)So she did the same thing: reinvented herself as a Humanitarian in India and Rwanda to bag the thick Prince. So now, she’s rebranding as a diplomat to bag someone else up the food chain. She's not insisting on her title so much in her paid for puff PR pieces. Zoe Terakes is in ensemble cast of The Office Australia
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/zoe-terakes-is-in-ensemble-cast-of-the-office-australia/
Zoe Terakes is in ensemble cast of The Office Australia
Actor Zoe Terakes is officially part of the ensemble cast of The Office Australia, our new version of the TV comedy series headed by actress Felicity Ward.
Prime Video has confirmed the all-Aussie The Office will premiere all eight episodes on the streaming service on October 18.
The long-awaited, highly-anticipated Aussie spinoff of the franchise follows Ricky Gervais’ UK version and Steve Carell’s US version, as well as 13 other spinoffs around the world.
On Monday, Prime Video dropped a first-look image at actress and comic Felicity Ward, who’s the franchise’s first-ever female lead.
Felicity is playing the new boss Hannah Howard who is the managing director of packaging company Flinley Craddick.
Aussie actor Zoe Terakes is also officially part of the ensemble cast, alongside Edith Poor, Steen Raskopoulos, Shari Sebbens, Josh Thomson, Jonny Brugh, Susan Ling Young, Raj Labade, Lucy Schmidt, Pallavi Sharda and Claude Jabbour.
“When Hannah gets news from Head Office that they will be shutting down her branch and making everyone work from home, she goes into survival mode, making promises she can’t keep to keep her ‘work family’ together,” the synopsis states.
“The staff of Flinley Craddick indulge her and must endure Hannah’s outlandish plots as they work toward the impossible targets set for them.”

The Office Australia filmed last year
Zoe Terakes was spotted wearing a tradie’s outfit on location while filming the show in the Sydney suburb of Rydalmere in June last year.
The non-binary Australian actor and a group of their castmates were photographed around an office building that was transformed into the comedy series’ fictional Australian company.
There’s been chatter about an Australian version of The Office since 2018. At one point, Magda Szubanski was rumoured to be up for the lead role, before Felicity Ward was cast.
The Australian version of The Office will premiere on Prime Video on October 18.

When insurrectionists stormed the US capitol on January 6, 2021, in support of former president Donald Trump, Meta had to confront the reality that world leaders—even those in democratic nations—might use its platform to call for violence against their own citizens and political rivals. The company had long kept a policy that forbade users from inciting attacks, but political figures had typically been given greater leeway, on the basis that a tech platform couldn’t be seen to interfere in political discourse.
But, facing immense pressure, Meta did, finally, suspend Trump’s Facebook account on January 7, and later announced a new policy on incitement to violence by public figures on its platforms, which threatens bans of between six months and two years for violations.
That policy was tested this January in Cambodia, when the autocratic prime minister Hun Sen went on a livestream to threaten opponents of his Cambodian People’s Party, saying he would “gather CPP people to protest and beat you up,” and send “gangsters” to their houses. Hun Sen, who has 14 million followers on Facebook, has a credible history of violence and intimidation against activists and political opponents. Though the video was reported for violating the company’s policies against hate speech and incitement, Meta left the video up, arguing that Hun Sen, as a world leader, made the video newsworthy. In June, Facebook’s independent Oversight Board, which makes judgements on select content moderation decisions, said that the platform had made a mistake, requiring it to remove the video and recommending that Hun Sen’s Facebook page and Instagram account be suspended for six months. The company took down the video, but said it would conduct a review of the board’s recommendation to suspend Hun Sen’s accounts.
Meta usually implements the Oversight Board’s recommendations. But this time, the company seems to be hesitating. It has until August 28 to review the board’s recommendation, and take action—or not—on Hun Sen’s Facebook page. The company now faces a decision that is fraught with risk, with consequences for itself and for users in Cambodia, and which could set an important precedent ahead of 2024, when more than 30 countries—including the US, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and the UK—are due to hold elections. How Meta deals with Hun Sen’s account could set precedent for the standard to which world leaders are held on its platforms, which are used by billions of people around the world, and test the legitimacy of the Oversight Board.
“The difficulty is going to be where you draw that line of when a world leader demonstrated enough that they should be kicked off the platform,” says Katie Harbath, a fellow at the Integrity Institute and who formerly oversaw Facebook’s elections operations until 2021. “No platform has taken action in the middle of an election in terms of taking down a world leader. What does this look like in the case of India? Or Indonesia, or Mexico, all of these countries with elections next year?”
Just hours after the Oversight Board’s decision was released on June 29, Hun Sen announced on Telegram, where his channel has just over 1 million followers, that he would be leaving Facebook, and took down his page. The Cambodian government issued a ban on all of the Oversight Board’s members, and Hun Sen threatened to shut off access to Facebook in the country. But the departure didn’t last long. On July 20, three days before Cambodia held national elections, the page returned, managed by one of Hun Sen’s advisers, Duong Dara.
The speed of the prime minister’s about turn, and his unwillingness to act against Facebook, show how important the platform is in Cambodia.
More than 10 million of Cambodia’s 16.6 million citizens—or about 92 percent of the people who have access to the internet—use Facebook. Hun Sen, the country’s leader since 1985, has had an active page since 2010. In 2015, Facebook introduced its Free Basics program in the country, partnering with a local telecom company to make a select group of websites and apps, including Facebook and Messenger, effectively free for users. This meant that even poor Cambodians could access Facebook, and that for many, Facebook and its products were the internet.
“Facebook has been very important for [Hun Sen’s] political message, as well as in making him close to the electorate and the citizens of different parts of the country,” says Sokphea Young, a researcher at University College London who has studied the role the platform has played in Cambodia. In particular, people in remote areas of the country have been able to connect with the ruling party over the platform, Young says.
The ubiquity of the platform, he says, also allows it to function as a tool of state surveillance. “If you do anything ‘bad’ on Facebook, try to mobilize anything that does not go along with the law, you will be arrested,” he says. “Facebook is run in a democratic country, but in this way is supporting the ruling party.”
That function—and the economic significance of Facebook, which is used by many businesses in Cambodia—makes it unlikely that the country would completely ban the platform, Young says.
However, a ban is not impossible. The CPP won the national election, amid allegations of vote-rigging. In a widely anticipated move, Hun Sen announced that he would step down on August 22 and hand over the premiership to his son, Hun Manet. Hun Sen will become president of the Senate and acting head of state when Cambodia’s king travels abroad.
The country has previously ordered telecoms companies to block dozens of sites, including most independent media, and last year created its own internet gateway that gives it more control over what people in the country can access.
With the regime’s power over the country secured, there is less jeopardy for the government in blocking Facebook. “We see that as a real threat now,” says Golda Benjamin, Asia-Pacific campaigner with Access Now. “Because the election is over, I think there’s a real threat of blocking the platform and then also threatening the physical presence of any Facebook staff in Cambodia.”
The threat of a ban complicates Meta’s decisionmaking, and introduces both commercial and freedom-of-speech considerations into its deliberations: Is it better for the platform to enforce its policy strictly and risk millions of people losing access to information and services, or to compromise its policy—and the integrity of the Oversight Board—to keep them online?
Meta spokesperson Corey Chambliss told WIRED that the company “remains focused on making sure as many people as possible can use our services to share what matters to them, while removing content that breaks our rules.”
An Oversight Board member, speaking to WIRED on condition of anonymity, says the board did take into consideration the possibility of a countrywide ban of Meta’s platforms when formulating its decision. “It was our judgment that it was more important to keep the regime from being able to use the platform to threaten the political opposition, even at the risk that Facebook might be shut down now,” they say. “The point of a decision of this sort is not just to take down one post, but to try to nudge the company in the direction of more consistent enforcement of its already existing rules having to do with abuse of the platform.”
It’s not clear that suspending Hun Sen would have a material impact on his ability to reach supporters.
An analysis of mentions of Donald Trump after his suspension from Facebook and Twitter found that conversations around him did indeed decrease, but researchers were unable to tell whether that was also due to a simultaneous crackdown on many far-right groups that supported him as well.
Hun Sen’s supporters and other party members will almost certainly remain active on the platform. He uses Telegram, and has a popular TikTok account—although neither has as many followers as his Facebook page. Instead of an outright suspension, Access Now’s Benjamin says the company could take some half measures, such as removing the ability to share content from Hun Sen’s page or deprioritizing its reach. In its current policy, Meta says that pages that violate its community guidelines may “be removed from recommendations and have their distribution reduced.”
But Piseth Duch, a Cambodian human rights lawyer and legal analyst, says that Meta should remain consistent in its policies, no matter the risks. “I believe that they should strictly follow their principles, regardless of every country’s leader,” he says.
Even if, as some have argued, the threat of being suspended from the platform might have been enough to convince Hun Sen to stay within Facebook’s community guidelines since January, the lack of consequences for breaking the rules means that others will inevitably test the boundaries in the future. If Meta doesn’t impose consequences, “other people will continue to use Facebook to incite violence or speech of speech,” Duch says.
Meta’s decision could have consequences for the Oversight Board, which is a core part of the company’s governance. The body was set up in 2018 to act as a sort of independent judiciary for Meta platforms, particularly around issues of content moderation. Meta funds it via an irrevocable trust, but does not have any say in its decisions.
The board can issue binding decisions as well as non-binding recommendations. Its first decisions were released in January 2021, and since then it has submitted 191 recommendations to Meta, some of which have forced the platform to reevaluate its internal policies. Many of them dealt with thorny topics, such as whether content from a news outlet covering Afghanistan’s Taliban government (considered a “dangerous organization”) could stay up (it could), or whether a Croatian cartoon implying ethnic Serbians were “rats” violated Meta’s hate speech rules (it did). In the case of Hun Sen’s account, the board issued a binding decision that the offending video be removed, and recommended a suspension of the prime minister’s account.
Access Now’s Benjamin says that not following the board’s recommendation could throw into question how the company will approach issues of violent and hateful speech moving forward—particularly with how it handles the context in which a post is made. “If Meta doesn’t not comply with the recommendation of the Oversight Board, it also speaks so much about its sincerity and commitment to its own policies against violent and harmful content,” she says. “If they disobey this recommendation, we are forced to go back to the drawing board of looking at freedom of expression on a per-post basis.”
The Oversight Board member says that the body isn’t issuing any one-size-fits-all recommendations for how Meta should approach future elections. “Every election is going to be unique, the timing is going to be different, the nature of the issues that come up are different,” they say. But the board has recommended that Meta should adopt a new system so that when heads of state attempt to incite violence on its platforms, there is a rapid escalation to try to limit the harm it causes.
But what seems like a question relegated to a smaller market could have massive repercussions in other countries. In India, Facebook’s largest market, the far-right, Hindu-nationalist ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has already banned TikTok and accused Meta of censoring nationalist users, even as reporting from The Wall Street Journal found that the company routinely let hateful and violent content by BJP members stay up on Facebook. Last year, the country announced the creation of a Grievance Appellate Committee meant to oversee moderation decisions made by large tech companies. The government also requires foreign tech companies to have in-country representatives who can be held legally responsible for company decisions, and has set up a state-run fact-checking arm that can flag content it determines to be misleading about the government, which companies, and even internet service providers, must comply with. After the US, India has submitted the most requests to have content taken off Meta’s platforms.
If a situation similar to Cambodia were to play out in India’s elections, Meta might face not only a possible ban, shutting off hundreds of millions of users, but also the arrest of its in-country staff.
And possibly nowhere else is this question more alive than in the United States, where Donald Trump, the person for whom Meta’s policy was originally written, has already begun to campaign for the presidency. His suspension from Facebook ended at the beginning of 2023, but “guardrails” remain in place–if he violates the company’s policies again, he will be suspended for between a month to another two years. How that will play out in the midst of an election is anyone’s guess.
The Integrity Institute’s Harbath says that the Cambodia decision could have afforded the Oversight Board the opportunity to help prepare Meta for these upcoming elections.
“I think that the Oversight Board put Facebook in a bit of a difficult spot with this one because they didn't really adequately address what this will look like in a place like India or a fairly free country ahead of an election,” she says. "I feel like they kind of kicked the can down the road.”

I wonder how harry feels about his friend not being wanted by two whole countries! //
Unfortunately Corden would not be returning to the UK if he didn't already have his own prime time chat show lined up on either bbc, itv1 or channel 4. Just because he's hated online doesn't mean he's lost the industry's respect.
This showed up in my recommended videos last night. That time James Corden was owned by Ross from Friends. LOL

I feel compelled to correct misinformation being spread. Please consider using the SIFT method: Stop. Investigate the source. Find better coverage. Trace claims, quotes, and media to the original context. I have great compassion for all civilians suffering the consequences of war, and we need to tell their stories accurately.
TRUE: Israel cut water, electricity, and food to Gaza until Hamas releases up to 150 civilian hostages kidnapped from Israel. The humanitarian situation for Palestinians in Gaza is indeed very dire. (Source: Reuters, BBC)
MOSTLY FALSE: Israel is not telling civilians in the West Bank to hunt down Palestinians with rifles. That is inflammatory fearmongering. What we do know is that 10,000 rifles are being purchased to arm existing "civilian security teams linked to the Israel Police's Border Police" and are not just being given to random people off the street. (Source: Times of Israel)
MIXTURE: Israel did bomb the Rafah Crossing on 10/10/23, but has not bombed it since then. Rafah Crossing remains closed due to Egypt's rejection of setting up safe corridors for refugees fleeing Gaza. Egypt's president stated that Palestinians of Gaza should "stay steadfast and remain on their land." Israel did tell civilians to flee to Egypt on 10/10/23 but reversed the statement later that day. (Source: Al Jazeera, Al Jazeera, The Guardian, Reuters)
MOSTLY TRUE: Israel bombed the Rafah Crossing on 10/10/23 as a signal to Egypt that its aid and fuel trucks heading towards Gaza should turn back or be destroyed. However, OP's phrasing of "threatened the Egyptian government" is vague and could imply a response as drastic as Israel declaring war on Egypt. (Source: Middle East Monitor, Times of Israel).
TRUE: Entire families are being killed or left homeless. As of 10/14/23, the death toll has reached 2,228 people in Gaza and 1,300 people in Israel as bombing continues. (Source: ABC News)
MIXTURE: Reports that babies were beheaded remain unverified, however Hamas did behead soldiers and kill several babies. The rumor about beheaded babies originated from an IDF interview with i24NEWS. (Source: NBC News)
FALSE: OP's evidence for genocidal intent is a tweet of a video interview with a former Israeli prime minister, not a current government official, explaining that wartime means not providing electricity to your enemies. (Source: The Hill)
MOSTLY FALSE: The UK never decided to cut aid to Palestine and could not have reversed a decision that never happened. OP's link itself states the UK is under pressure to suspend aid, the opposite of what OP claims. It's actually the EU that said it would suspend aid but was forced to backtrack by member states. (Source: Telegraph)
MOSTLY TRUE: The US actually spends $3.3 billion annually in foreign aid to Israel, not $3.8 billion. In 2022, that amount was second only to $12 billion in foreign aid sent to Ukraine. (Source: U.S. Department of State, USAID)
UNPROVEN: OP's source on cancelled interviews is a tweet by one Palestinian professor. It has screenshots of three texts cancelling interviews with him: 1) No explanation. 2) Cancelled in favor of video from a Gaza refugee agency. 3) Using his pre-recorded interview. It's misleading to frame this as silencing, and there's no evidence that it's widespread. OP's claim that "Israelis tell lies unchecked" is pure opinion and contradicted by their own earlier link to a former Israeli PM pushed back on by Sky News.
IN PROGRESS: At least one Arab American civil rights group said they received multiple reports of "Palestinian nationals detained by ICE, and/or visited by the FBI" including at mosques. The situation is ongoing, so we should document how it develops so the government can be held accountable. (Source: The Intercept)
MOSTLY FALSE: Europe, Canada, and the US did not ban pro-Palestine protests. OP's evidence is an Instagram post that doesn't even say that and cites no sources either. There have been many pro-Palestine protests in Europe, Canada, and the US. Germany did ban all activity supporting Hamas specifically, which is considered a terrorist organization, but other pro-Palestinian protests are allowed such as a rally in Dusseldorf. France did ban all pro-Palestinian protests. OP corrected this part of their original post, but the misinformation has already been reblogged thousands of times. (Source: Euronews, CBC, PBS, The Guardian, Politico)
Israel has cut water, electricity and food to Palestinians in Gaza. They are buying 10.000 M16 rifles and plan to distribute to civilian settlers in the West Bank to hunt down Palestinians. They're bombing the only way out of Gaza through Egypt, after telling refugees to flee through it, and have threatened the Egyptian government in case they let aid trucks pass through. Entire families, generations, are being wiped out and left to wander the streets hoping they don't get bombed.
Palestinians are using their last minutes of battery to let the world know about their genocide and are being met with a wall of "What about Hamas? What about the beheaded babies? Killing children on either side is bad!" even though the propaganda claims have been debunked over and over again. How cruel is it to ask somebody to condemn themselves before their last words? Or before grieving the loss of their entire families? When there's no such disclaimer to Israelis even though their government has shown over and over genocidal intent? Like who are you even trying to appease? What will your wishy washy statement do against decades of zionist thought infiltrating evangelical and Jewish stablishmemts?
Take action. Israel will fall back if public opinion turns its tide. The UK fell back on its bloody decision to cut aid to Palestine under public scrutiny. The USAmerican empire spends $3.8 billion dollars annually solely on this proxy war while its people suffer under a progressively military regime as well. News outlets are canceling last minute on Palestinian speakers while letting Israelis tell lies unchecked. Palestinian refugees are being targeted in ICE establishments and mosques are already being hounded by the FBI. Europe, Canada and the US have banned pro-Palestine protests but people are still resisting. You have the chance to stop this from turning into repeat of the Iraq war.
I want to do something but there's hardly anything for me to do from Brasil besides spreading the word and not letting these testimonies fall on deaf ears. I'm asking you to do this same ant work from wherever you are.

Sporting gender and race: Lessons from Imane Khelif humiliation
New Post has been published on https://sa7ab.info/2024/08/11/sporting-gender-and-race-lessons-from-imane-khelif-humiliation-2/
Sporting gender and race: Lessons from Imane Khelif humiliation
“I send a message to all the people of the world to uphold the Olympic principles and the Olympic Charter, to refrain from bullying all athletes. Because this has effects, massive effects. It can destroy people, it can kill people’s thoughts, spirit and mind. It can divide people. And because of that, I ask them to refrain from bullying.”
These were the words of 25-year-old Algerian boxer Imane Khelif during an interview with SNTV, a sports video partner of The Associated Press, on Sunday, August 4.
Khelif made these comments after facing severe bullying, including accusations that she is a trans woman, following a heated row about gender eligibility.
The gender row began when Italian boxer Angela Carini abandoned her qualifying match with Khelif on August 1, just 46 seconds into the first round, citing safety concerns after a powerful blow to the face.
Following this match, critics targeted Khelif on social media, including contentious figures such as US election candidate Donald Trump, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, and far-right Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Hungarian opponent Anna Luca Hamori further inflamed the situation by comparing Khelif to a devil-like monster on Instagram and spreading transphobic sentiments before their match last week.
Despite the bullying, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has strongly supported Khelif, as well as Taiwan’s Lin Yu-Ting, who also faced bullying during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
On August 3, IOC President Thomas Bach stated, “We have two boxers who were born as women, who have been raised as women, who have a passport as a woman, and who have competed for many years as women.”
Discrimination against women of colour is nothing new
The gender row reveals a troubling pattern of discrimination against people of colour.
Throughout her tennis career, which began in the mid-1990s, Serena Williams faced intense scrutiny over her physique.
Despite turning professional at 14, winning 23 Grand Slams, overcoming numerous injuries, and surviving a near-fatal birth experience, Williams’s muscular build was frequently criticised.
“People would say I was born a guy, all because of my arms or because I’m strong,” Williams told Harper’s Bazaar in 2018.
“I was different from Venus: she was thin and tall and beautiful, and I am strong and muscular — and beautiful, but, you know, it was just totally different.”
Similarly, South African runner Caster Semenya faced discrimination after her 800m victory at the 2009 World Championships.
Despite being identified as female at birth and raised as a girl, Semenya was sidelined for 11 months due to regulations concerning hormone levels.
She has a condition known as differences in sex development (DSDs), which results in naturally high testosterone levels.
The latest athlete to face such scrutiny is Indian wrestling star Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified from her gold medal bout at the Games for being 100 grams overweight.
These accusations against women of colour not only humiliate actual trans girls and women, who are often denied high-level competition opportunities, but also unfairly target cis women of colour, punishing them for their achievements and questioning their very identity.
This situation also highlights hypocrisy in the Olympics.
Why was Khelif vilified, slandered, and even pressured to provide childhood photographs to prove her gender, while Dutch volleyball player Steven van de Velde, who was sentenced to four years in prison in the UK in 2016 for raping a 12-year-old girl when he was 19, received far less scrutiny?
Although the player has now been removed from the Games, a clear double standard is evident this year.
The female battle against testosterone
The controversy surrounding Khelif has deeply impacted not only her, but also her family, and the broader female community, particularly women who suffer from high testosterone levels.
Elevated testosterone, can lead to unfair scrutiny, especially in women with conditions such as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) or Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH).
Notably, 37% of female Olympians have PCOS, a condition that contributes to 70% of hyperandrogenism cases.
PCOS symptoms, for example, include acne, excessive body hair growth, and scalp hair loss, and the condition affects an estimated 5% of women.
Testosterone, a sex hormone produced by both men and women, is at the heart of this row. Although we don’t know if Khelif has disclosed any medical conditions that may cause high testosterone levels, one thing is certain: having the so-called ‘male hormone’ is nothing to be ashamed of.
Aless Bove, a nutritional therapist at The PCOS Expert, shared her thoughts on women with elevated testosterone: “While conditions like PCOS can reduce the quality of life for many women, it can also be a superpower. Testosterone is often labelled a ‘male hormone,’ but we need it in regulated amounts for energy, mood, and bone health.
“Elevated testosterone does not determine gender identity, but it affects around 5-10% of women and is linked to certain medical conditions. It can also fluctuate depending on lifestyle, diet, and stress,” Bove explains to The New Arab.
Three women with PCOS, who chose to remain anonymous, shared their feelings about the Khelif controversy.
Sarah* expressed her sadness: “I felt very saddened by Khelif’s case. The impact this has had on the world makes me angry about humanity and how people can hurt each other without compassion and empathy.
“Everyone has scars and has gone through struggles, and no one should be judgmental, no matter what.”
She added that the harsh comments about Khelif’s physical appearance reminded her of high school bullying, feeling like a return to a playground where kids are mean.
Layla* shared similar sentiments: “When I first saw the situation surrounding Khelif, I felt sorry for her, much like I did for intersex athlete Caster Semenya years ago. After seeing influencers like Jake Paul suggest giving her opponent a ‘fair chance’ against someone who wasn’t ‘male,’ my frustration grew.
“I, too, have elevated testosterone levels that I cannot control despite my best efforts. I can only imagine how heart-wrenching it must have been for Khelif to see the world turn on her overnight for something she cannot control,” Layla adds.
“Athletes train for years for their moment in the sun, and Khelif’s moment was stolen from her because of a chemical imbalance within her body that the world failed to understand. The so-called ‘controversy’ is morally repugnant and deeply offensive.”
Jasmine* voiced concern for Khelif’s mental health: “I found it incredibly sad and really sympathised with Khelif. As a woman with PCOS, you are always conscious of symptoms making you appear less ‘female.’ The cruel trolls and narrative surrounding Khelif are likely to be triggering for her and could significantly affect her mental health.”
Urgent need for change
Recent events demonstrate the urgent need for significant changes to prevent the humiliation of misgendering.
This also extends to unnecessary revisits of past injustices. For example, amid the ongoing gender debate, critics have fixated on Khelif, highlighting her previous disqualification from competition due to “elevated levels of testosterone,” which allegedly did not meet the eligibility criteria.
This change is not just a matter of discussion; it is critical, particularly given that Khelif has recently received death threats.
So, what actions are necessary to protect these women’s mental health?
First, testing practices must undergo major improvements.
Despite advancements from visual exams in the 1930s to more sophisticated chromosome and testosterone tests, the International Boxing Association’s (IBA) handling of Khelif and Yu-Ting’s testing remains unclear.
The IBA has not disclosed the details of the tests or the reasons for the boxers’ disqualification, citing confidentiality.
On Wednesday, July 31, the IBA stated that the two boxers “did not undergo a testosterone examination but were subject to a separate and recognised test, the specifics of which remain confidential.”
IOC spokesman Mark Adams affirmed that all participants in the women’s event were “complying with competition eligibility rules.”
He noted, “These athletes have competed many times before for many years, they haven’t just arrived, they competed in Tokyo.
“Testosterone is not a perfect test. Many women can have testosterone which is in what would be called ‘male levels’ and still be women, still compete as women.
“This idea that suddenly you do one test for testosterone and that sorts everything out — not the case, I’m afraid.
“I hope we’re all agreed that we’re not calling for people to go back to the bad old days of sex testing, which was a terrible thing to do.”
Bove argues that improving testing involves addressing the complexities and natural variability of high testosterone in women.
She suggests that incorporating medical insights can provide a better understanding of how hormone levels affect performance and health.
Bove adds, “Why should women be excluded for something that naturally occurs in their bodies? Policies should be inclusive, consider natural hormonal variations, and maintain transparent criteria to ensure fair competition.”
She also notes that while women with naturally higher testosterone may have certain advantages in sports, this does not mean their gender should be questioned.
Bove illustrates this by pointing out that Jamaican runner Usain Bolt’s muscle composition, which contributed to his speed, was due to genetics rather than an unfair advantage.
Preventing disinformation in media reporting is also crucial, as media coverage can frame narratives and shape public opinion.
For instance, The Daily Mail’s headline, “Olympics gender row boxer Imane Khelif bursts in tears and declares ‘I am a woman’ – as she gloats about ‘winning a medal for Algeria and Arabs’ having guaranteed at least a bronze after her quarter final victory,” questions Khelif’s gender and portrays her as self-congratulatory.
To add insult to injury, this framing not only perpetuates racial biases but also intensifies the bullying Khelif has endured.
“Journalists and sports officials should receive diversity and inclusion training to promote transparent reporting standards, and ensure that policies are informed by a broad range of perspectives,” says Bove.
“Media outlets should be evaluated for balanced and accurate coverage, and sports organisations must implement anti-discrimination policies to foster an environment of respect and equality.”
While there’s a long way to go to get these improvements in place, some changes are currently being discussed.
A Joint Paris 2024 Boxing Unit/IOC Statement on Thursday, August 1, indicated that the IOC needs National Boxing Federations to reach a consensus around a new International Federation for boxing to be included in the sports programme of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
As Khelif prepares to compete against Chinese boxer Yang Liu for the gold medal this Friday, we can only hope that the focus will remain on the Algerian boxer’s talents and not on trolling.

== Love Notes ==
Hey Lovelies. It's that time again to take a moment for yourself, and do a quick self-care check.
First: Have you had any water lately? Anything to eat?
Whatever you're doing, take a minute to get yourself a glass of water, maybe a small snack, the rest will be there when you get back. I know it feels like you absolutely CANNOT stop what you're doing, or you won't get back to it, but I promise you, unless what you're doing is literally life-saving (like open-heart surgery) or you're in the middle of driving a bus full of people, it can wait a couple minutes.
I know you're strong enough to push through and keep going, but you deserve a break. You deserve a minute or two to yourself.
Second: Time to take a deep breath.
Remember to hold it just for a second or two and take your time breathing it out.
In through the nose, out through the mouth.
Great job :)
Today I was reminded of a short meditation poem by Thich Nhat Hanh on breathing that used to help me get through rough days and I wanted to share it with you-- with each line, breathe in and out slowly. Here's more on it if you're interested: Meditation Poem
In, Out Deep, Slow Calm, Ease Smile, Release Present Moment, Wonderful Moment
Right now, you're the wonderful, present being. You're alive, you're breathing, and you're kicking ass. It's fucking tough out there sometimes, and it's okay to struggle, just don't ever forget how incredibly unique and wonderful you are.
Infinite numbers of events, random meetings, and stars colliding led up to the imperfect, glorious you, and you're still here, shining with us (whether dim or bright tonight).
Love you crew. Whatever challenges you're facing, know we're here for you. Reach out if you need us <3
