#ask #non mdzs #My health journey has been: Hernia -> acid reflux -> Vocal pain due to aforementioned reflux -> chest infection.#I'm terrified to know what's about to hit me next. Please let it be something kind. PLEASE.#The consequence of living with linguists is that you'll wake up with a wacked up voice -#suddenly you're sitting you down in front of a program called something like Praat having your shimmer and jitter levels calibrated.#They gave me a GRBAS of 33012. I have a fun thing called a pitch break where a whole octave just does not exist.#My vocal pain was bad enough I ended up seeing a speech pathologist and that whole experience was super neat!#I learnt a lot about voice - to be honest I might make a little comic on it after some more research. Fascinating stuff.#For example; your mental perception of our voice modulates the muscles of the vocal folds and larynx.#meaning that when you do have changes (inflammation = more mass = lower frequency)#your brain automatically attempts to correct it to what it 'should sound like'. Leading to a lot more vocal strain and damage!#And it gets really interesting for trans voice care as well - because the mental perception of one's voice isn't based on an existing sampl #So a good chunk of trans voice training is also done with the idea of finding one's voice and retraining the brain to accept it. Neat!#Parkinsonial Voice also has this perception to musculature link! The perception is that they are talking at a loud/normal volume #but the actual voice is quite breathy and weak. So vocal training works on practicing putting more effort into the voice #and retraining the brain to accept the 'loud' voice as 'normal'.#Isn't the human body fascinating?#Anyhow; Now I have vocal exercises and strategies to reduce strain and promote healing.#Which is a lot better than my previous strategy of yelling AAAH in my car until my 'voice smoothed out'.#You can imagine the horror on the speech path's face. I am an informed creature now.#I'm my own little lab rat now. I love learning and researching. Welcome to my tag lab. #phew the lineup is finished at long last!!!#i wanted to try my hand at drawing lotr’s significant female characters close to how tolkien described them #or may have described them if he had bothered to give them more page time (*cough* lothíriel *COUGH*)#arwen’s simple silver dress in fellowship really enchanted me and i also gave her a pair of medievalesque braids #eowyn is the closest to her movie counterpart - with the exception of her hair not being loose and flowing #galadriel has deeper gold hair than PJ or Amazon’s to reflect her vanyarin heritage and match her with the mallorn leaves of lorien #goldberry is plus sized because MTG’s version ingrained itself permanently into my mind since she’s so beautiful #shelob is here in her human incarnation just for giggles and to please the lovely lady villain lovers in the crowd #i based lothiriel’s dress off of one of morgana’s in bbc merlin and her appearance on my HCs for boromir and faramir since they’re cousins #ioreth and lobelia were a challenge for me to experiment with fashions appropriate for ‘older’ women in their respective cultures #rosie is firmly established as a redhead in pink in my mind - she’s youthful feminine and loveable #lord of the rings #lotr #arwen #eowyn #galadriel #goldberry #shelob #lothiriel #ioreth #lobelia #rosie cotton #art #fanart #my art #merilles #btw i still like my previous designs for these characters i just wanted to try something different/more canonically accurate :)

I've got a bone to pick with all of y'all! How come the fandom representation of Fulgrim is so damn empty compared to his actual novel depiction!? Why did no one tell me about all the people on his damn ship pre heresy?!?!?

All anyone ever talks about with Fulgrim is the hee hoo slaanesh primearch, or the smug artist boy. But no one has mentioned that the first description of his eyes is that they're friendly. Or that he's introduced in his horus heresy novel by walking in and gently asking a wonderful musician to continue her concert after a noble disrespected her. I know about all the creepy and horrible shit. But why did none of you ever mention he's absolutely sweet?!?!?

Anywho, I'm reading Fulgrim visions of treachery, it's pretty good.

Since the modern Machete and Vasco are reincarnations of their former selves, do you think they might occasionally experience remnants from their past lives in the form of things like vague memories/dreams or feelings that they can't quite explain?

Such as how maybe Machete wouldn't be able to watch stabbing scenes in shows/movies without getting a faint ache in his chest, or an imaginary metallic taste in his mouth. Maybe Vasco would tend to get especially clingy and oddly concerned about Machete's well-being during a particular time of year(around whenever the previous Machete was assassinated).

can we talk about Phil and Jaiden today and their interactions after Jaiden finally shows her wings because I’m going crazy.

Jaiden showing off her wings for the first time to Phil, and Phil both happy for her and also insanely jealous, because why did she get to keep her wings, while his got clipped so badly he needs his backpack to counterbalance the weight he lost - or at least the weight he looses having to keep them close to his back.

and the whole time they’re talking in a group, hanging around spawn, Jaiden is perched somewhere above the group. up in a tree, moving from branch to branch, or against the wall, or right on the top of that lamppost. Phil, on the other hand, stays sat on the bench the entire time. grounded.

and every time Jaiden hops from perch to perch, he looks specifically at her. zooms in whiles she’s sat on the lamppost even as he continues conversation. its such a small detail but really helps punch in just how much Philza can’t let it go, can’t stop wishing that he could do the same.
