Polly’s insulinoma was confirmed, so she’s got that tumor, hemolytic anemia and her seizures. 😳 Our sweet little vanilla cupcake is putting up a good fight, though. We’re getting human food and treats in her, which is an improvement, and she ate a half of a small can of dog food this morning. Lunch is still debatable but we’ll keep trying. We’ll see the doc again on Monday for a recheck on her bloodwork. Please keep her in your thoughts a prayers. This is tough on her little body but she’s handling it like a champ. Because seizures aren’t enough.... 😒 Poor Polly had to see Doc today b/c something was off kilter. We learned that her glucose is low...aka: she’s hypoglycemic. We sent some blood off for confirmation, but the bloodwork we did indicates an insulinoma...a tumor in the pancreas that produces (extra) insulin, causing her sugar to drop. She was at 51, which is not good. As a Type 1 diabetic myself, I’m here to attest that it ain’t good, and you feel like poo. So we sent off bloodwork to confirm, and I’m trying and begging her to eat. She’ll require a specific diet, need to eat 3x a day and take prednisone. Sometimes surgery is an option, but at Polly’s age and with her seizures, it’s risky. So we’ll provide the food and prednisone and whatever else doc wants us to do. I stumbled to the restroom in the middle of the night, eyes half open, groggy and clumsy, only to find this when I returned to bed. Polly’s heart is so big, and she loves so deeply. Even in the wee hours when you can’t determine what’s up and down from the sleepy in your eyes, this little love can touch your heart. Polly came to us frantic and afraid. She now rests in the arms of her foster siblings and her foster mom with a forgotten past. She receives daily meds for her seizures, dresses in her pretty red coat on the colder days, becomes thrilled at the sight of a stuffed toy, and insists on staying close (as she currently rests at my feet). What a blessing this little vanilla cupcake has been. Polly is at the doc today for the removal of her lump. Bless her heart, she was so terrified. Broke my heart. 💔They’ll send it off for confirmation of melanoma and its stage. VET DAY! Stewart & Polly visited w/Doc today. Polly needed a spot checked on her inner thigh, which turns out to most likely be melanoma. Fortunately he said that it will probably come back as benign or low grade so it shouldn’t be too much to worry over. We’ll schedule the surgery to have that removed. Stewart had to get his heartworm treatment work up done so we could see where he’s at w/his health. Bloodwork & radiographs looked good, so he now has 2 mths of Heartguard & then his shot & pred, then a month later 2 more shots & pred. BUT, don’t let that stop you if you’re in love - we can do a foster to adopt during his treatment! Lastly, he’s got a goofed up elbow. While he didn’t provide Doc w/the most pristine x-ray, it looks like there’s a malfunction. It won’t completely flex as it should, so maybe there’s an older injury to his growth plate or something. We’ll recheck during his treatment, but it may be that we don’t want to rock the boat & make it worse. He does well, still normal and playful, just a slight limp here & there. So we’ll see what he gives us in a few months. In other good news, he stuck his head into every trash can in the clinic. 🐽 After, they both enjoyed a pup-pop from Sonic...as you can see, Stewart has no trouble cleaning his bowl. Polly had a less clean ending, but as you’ll note, Stewart doesn’t mind doing dishes - he wiped it clean! His last photo shows you his expression after yelling at a passerby who got slightly too close to the car. Can you imagine the audacity?? Stewart let him know this was inappropriate...the dude moved on.
