Cost of House Cleaning Services
Generally speaking, house cleaning services can be divided into two categories: janitorial services and maid services. These two types of cleaning services provide the same type of service to both residential and commercial property owners, but the specific services provided by each are often different. For example, a janitorial service is an external company that provides specific house cleaning in Western Sydney to a business, while a maid service provides the same services to a residential home.
Average cost per square foot
Whether you are looking for a one time clean or you need a more thorough deep clean, the cost of house cleaning services can vary greatly. It is important to understand how the size of your home, the type of area you need cleaned, and how often you need your home cleaned will affect the cost of cleaning.
A small condo or bungalow will be less expensive to clean than a larger home. A typical bungalow is a smaller home with a large front porch. These homes are generally only one story. The average cost of cleaning a bungalow is between $110 and $660.
A typical 1-bedroom, 1-bath apartment will be priced at $60 to $90. A larger home, such as a 3-bedroom, 2-bath home, will be more expensive. Depending on the number of bathrooms and bedrooms in your home, you may be charged for more than the standard amount of cleaning.
Average cost per hour
Depending on the cleaning company, the average cost of house cleaning services can vary greatly. Some companies charge by square footage, while others charge per hour or per room. The number of bedrooms and bathrooms also affects the overall price.
Some companies offer a package deal for monthly contracts. These services will typically cost less than a regular service. The service can include a deep clean or a light cleaning on a weekly basis. These packages can be customized according to the needs of the homeowner.
Whether you hire an individual cleaner or a company, you should find out if the cleaner has insurance. Some companies have high turnover rates, and it's not always guaranteed that they have insurance.
You can also ask about tipping policies. It's a nice gesture after a deep clean. It can be a good idea to give a 10% to 15% tip on the total cost.
Cost of living in your area
Whether you're considering moving to a new city or just looking for more information about the cost of living in your current location, there are a variety of resources available. A cost of living calculator can help you determine how much money you'll need to live in your chosen location. You'll also be able to compare the costs of two different cities to see how they compare.
You'll also want to consider your big-picture financial goals. For example, if you're planning to buy a home, you'll want to factor in property taxes. You might also want to save for a down payment.
You'll need to pay for transportation, housing, health care, food, and utilities. The average cost of living for each category varies by location. You might want to try changing your lifestyle to cut costs in certain categories.
If you're considering moving to a new area, consider how easy it will be for you to visit your friends and family. You'll also need to consider the amenities available in your new city.
Cost of living in Seattle
Compared to other cities in the United States, the cost of living in Seattle is higher. The price of living is calculated by taking into account housing and transportation expenses. The average cost of living in Seattle is $1913 per month for a single person and $5171 for a family of four.
In terms of basic utilities, a 915-square-foot apartment in Seattle costs $228 per month. Energy has increased 22 percent in the past two years. The average internet plan is 60 mbps and costs $61 per month.
Rent is the biggest expense in Seattle. The rent for a two-bedroom apartment is $2,055 per month. The most expensive part of Seattle is the Pike Market area. A three-course meal at a mid-range restaurant costs $80.
Seattle is known for its tech industry. Many of the city's employers include Amazon and Microsoft. A lot of Seattle residents are working towards clean energy sources.

What is a Home Water Filtration System and What Are the Benefits?
Clean Water vs Pure Water
Last week, Melbourne was crowned Australia’s best city for tap water. The title was judged by theWater Industry Operators Australiaand the prize is based on colour, clarity, odour and taste. By all reports, it tasted delicious! But just because tap water tastesgood, and isclean, does that mean it is pure?
All of Melbourne’s Water undergoes treatment if it is sourced from unprotected catchments. This involves filtration and disinfection. Water is disinfected at the point where it enters the supply system, and again at specified points along the delivery system (Greater Western Water, 2022). Greater Western Water’sDrinking Water Quality Report, 2021-22 states that our city’s water undergoes the following water treatment processes:
Fluoridation; Adding fluorosilicic acid (as per Fluoridation Act 1973)
Chemical Treatment and Disinfection; by Chlorination, and a second chlorine dosing (using liquid sodium hypochlorite) in four locations, including our Werribee catchment.
pH Correction; Little River water supply is dosed with gaseous carbon dioxide
Other filtration activities in certain catchments; Coagulation and flocculation for clarification, sand filtration, drum screen filtration, dual media pressure filters, cartridge filters, reverse osmosis, remineralisation, sludge handling, dissolved air flotation, oxidation, absorption coagulation
Other added substances in certain catchments; polymer alum, lime, ferric sulphate/ sulphuric acid/polydadmac, antiscalant, sodium hydroxide, sodium bisulfite, membrane cleaning, chemicals (caustic, detergent, acid), hydrated lime, carbon dioxide, chlorine gas, aluminium chlorihydrate, polyelectrolyte, sodium hydroxide (caustic soda), potassium permanganate, powdered activated carbon, sodium hypochlorite sodium, flurosilicic acid, sodium hexafluorosilicate, aqueous ammonia sodium, aluminium sulphate and sodium carbonate (soda ash).
Greater Western Water state that the purpose of the above is totake a preventative measures and multiple barrier risk management approach.
We’re Melbourneplumbers, and it is our mission to ensure Melburnians have access to safe drinking water in order to prevent waterborne diseases; plumbing plays a vital role in protecting public health. We are also cognizant of the difference betweencleantreated water, andpurefiltered water. Reading a list of the added substances above (detergent anyone?!) sounds more like what you’d read on the side of a can ofCoca-Cola, rather than straight from the tap. The reason for this is completely understandable, they need to keep their pipes clean in order to deliver water to you disease-free.
For the general population, tap water is perfectly fine to drink, cook, clean and bathe in. But we’ll go into detail below some of the problems that can occur with treated tap water, and how whole home water filtration systems can help in solving these.
Types of Water Problems
ChoiceAustralia has conducted research, in conjunction with Sydney Water, to determine the 5 most common contaminants in Australian tap water:
Stained plumbing/clothes. Likely caused by iron, manganese, copper.
Red/Brown slime in water pipes – Caused by Bacteria feeding on Iron
Discolouration of water – Turbidity (cloudy water) from hydrogen sulphide, iron, manganese, humic and tannic acids
Unusual colour or taste – caused by Hydrogen sulphide, low pH, iron, zinc, copper, lead, total dissolved solids, chloride, bacteria or algae, chlorine, paint soaking into plastic piping
Corrosive Water – likely caused by pH, copper, lead
Greater Western Water, our local water authority, has the task of ensuring water is treated enough to not be a risk to public health, but not treated too much to cause other problems to the end consumer.
Many people who are concerned about the processes of water treatment often opt for filtered water, or drinking water from water bottles. The following highlights what whole house water filtration systems are, and what benefits they can deliver to the end user.
What is a Home Water Filtration System?
There are many options on the market, but we consider those fromComplete Home Filtrationto be the jewel in the crown of the water filtration market. They are Australia’smost awarded water filter, including winning a Telstra Best of Business Awards Winner in 2022.
Essentially, a complete home water filtration is more than a kitchen mixer tap water filter; it filters all water entering your home for showering, drinking, washing etc by removing unwanted particles, chemicals and pollutants out of the water. Systems range in price from a simple reverse osmosis system (≈$1,000) to a whole house system (≈$6,000).
The benefits of removing chemicals, such as chlorine, out of your water once it enters your home are discussed below.
Health
Allergies are more prevalent in modern society, mainly due to pollution, dietary changes and less exposure to microbes. One such allergy iscercarial dermatitis, or chlorine rash. Symptoms of this allergy include an itchy, red rash, scaling of skin, small hives and swollen/tender skin. A frustrating allergy for someone to have as it can flare each time they shower due to the levels of chlorine in a municipal water supply.
Chlorine is a natural element compared to bleach, however, is used to treat and disinfect (and is a main active ingredient in bleach) thus likely to irritate those with skin sensitivities.
Chlorine often causes people to have lung irritations, and in extreme cases those with sensitivity to chlorine can feel unwell just breathing in shower vapour.
I’m getting controversial here, but chlorine has actually been linked to cancer and has been considered a carcinogen. Having a family member recently diagnosed with a Gastrointestinal Carcinoid, I’ve been researching causes. The World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology stated in 2016 that“published reports have revealed increased risk of colorectal cancers in people exposed to drinking water or chemical derivatives of chlorination”(World J Gastrointest Oncol. 2016 Apr 15; 8(4): 402–409). I should note this is a peer reviewed journal, not a subreddit of conspiracy theorists (I do love them though).
Skin and Hair
My 40’s are coming for me as fast as theSnowpiercertrain is perpetually lapping the globe at top speed (IYKYK). For the first time in my life I’m beginning to consider buying blood-of-a-virgin anti-wrinkle cream, not just the nivea face + body + pets. I’m finding my skin so dry and irritated when I exit the shower and I’m certain it’s not due to the volcanic water temperature…
Chlorine is a contributing factor in drying out your skin after you shower. It strips away your essential oils and opens these pores up, causing your skin to dry out. It causes itchiness and dryness and can trigger eczema.
Along with my skin ageing, my hair is becoming less of an ochre brown and more of a dusty silver… so I visit Thomas and his team atUNIK Hair Designin Point Cook to give me a paint job every now and again. Chlorine can strip dyed hair of colour, and dry it out, so many home filtration users enjoy its beauty benefits along with its health benefits.
Appliances
Water hardness refers to calcium and magnesium, amongst other minerals, in our water. If water is too ‘hard’ if it has higher than usual amounts of these minerals in the supply.
If not filtered out, these minerals cause deposits on appliances when water is heated (such as calcium on showerheads, in kettles and on coffee machines. Hard water means more soap and detergent is used for washing and cleaning, as its harder to lather.
Environment
Finally, home water filtration systems void the use of bottled water and thus reduce plastic pollution and fossil fuel consumption. If reducing your carbon footprint is important to you, and you’d like pure water without using plastic water bottles, whole house water filtration could be an option for you.
Installing a whole house water filtration system
If you’re interested in discussing the benefits of investing in a home water filtration system (which needs to be installed by a licensed plumber) get in touch with us on9931 0905.

I just want people to understand why I, as an Australian, am against greyhound racing as an industry.
In 2015, the ABC (our national broadcaster and a very reputable news source) exposed the live baiting practices within the greyhound racing industry in Australia. This scandal brought light to a host of issues within the industry that were widespread – not limited to just one area or one trainer or one track. These things were happening across the country.
In 2016 the NSW government moved to ban greyhound racing. This was eventually overturned and the industry continues. The reasons for the initial ban were:
Between 48,000–68,000 dogs were killed in past 12 years (prior to 2016) in NSW because they were too slow or otherwise unsuitable for racing
Live baiting is widespread, with about 10–20 per cent of trainers engaged in the practice
Greyhound Racing NSW had a policy of deliberately misreporting the number of dog deaths and injuries
The industry is not capable of reforming over the short or medium term
These findings were from a special commission of inquiry conducted by former High Court judge Michael McHugh. Regardless of the NSW government’s backflip on this issue, I didn’t just magically change my mind after reading these findings. Greyhound racing in Australia is an atrocious industry that values money above anything else.
I feel similarly about Australia’s horse racing industry. It is plagued with similar animal welfare issues and they have a much harder time with rehoming spent racehorses.
I am absolutely in favour of animal sports where animal welfare is at the forefront and the purpose is sport. The purpose of Australia’s greyhound and horse racing industries is profit. You can try to convince me that other countries are different, but if their racing industry is similarly propped up by a gambling industry, pardon me for being extremely skeptical that it’s as good for the dogs as it is for the humans.
Here is a snapshot of the news around greyhound racing in Australia from the last couple years.
29 Jan 2020
Greyhound racing sees 64 deaths, more than 1,200 injuries on Queensland tracks, figures show
"The business model of the greyhound industry requires dogs to die and be seriously injured.
"This goes on year after year despite the promises from both government and the industry that they're going to clean up their act and stop it."
13 Nov 2019
Victorian greyhound trainers suspended after allegedly using possums as live bait
Three Victorian greyhound trainers have been suspended after allegedly using possums as live bait, but the head of the sport insists the illegal practice is not widespread.
"I'm pretty sure its much more widespread than three individuals in the industry."
30 March 2019
Greyhound racing deaths, injuries on Tasmanian tracks rise despite industry efforts
Twenty-five greyhounds were destroyed on Tasmania's tracks last year, more than double the year before.
The Office of Racing Integrity says, when it comes to injuries, the industry is failing greyhounds.
18 July 2018
Mass greyhound grave found at Sydney property, a dozen emaciated dogs seized
The RSPCA has uncovered a mass grave containing the remains of nine greyhounds on the western Sydney property of a licensed trainer.
Twelve other greyhounds were removed from the property suffering emaciation, with parasites, pressure sores and severe dental disease.
1 July 2018
Greyhound trainers concerned reforms could destroy industry
While consensus in the industry is the reforms will mean better conditions for the greyhounds, there is concern that some measures may make breeding unaffordable, and force some tracks to close.
Some clubs are already running adoption programs, while others rely on animal welfare groups to assist.
29 Nov 2017
Greyhound industry struggling with change and desperate to move on from live baiting scandal
"Less than 1 per cent would be involved in that sort of thing," the trainer said.
But they will have a hard time convincing the public, who saw trainers deny animal cruelty was a problem, only to see hidden camera footage of the very same people engaged in live baiting.
Fifty-four trainers in three states were eventually charged with criminal offences as a result of that investigation by Animals Australia and Four Corners.
Most received life bans, while some cases are continuing through the courts.
Another 179 trainers and owners were charged with the unauthorised export of hundreds of dogs to Macau and mainland China.

Border crossings strain resources in Rio Grande Valley (AP) Elmer Maldonado spent a week in immigration custody with his 1-year-old son after crossing the Rio Grande through Texas to request asylum. One night, the Honduran father and son slept on the dirt under a bridge shivering from the cold temperatures at an intake site where large groups of migrants turn themselves in to Border Patrol officers. His experience illustrates a cycle that is repeating itself thousands of times a week amid a dramatic rise in migrant children and families at the U.S.-Mexico border: They arrive in the middle of the night by the dozens and are kept at outdoor intake sites, then taken to overcrowded detention facilities well past the 72-hour court-imposed limit. From there, the families are either released into the U.S. or expelled to Mexico, the lucky ones dropped off at a COVID-19 testing site with documents. Children traveling without their parents go to federal shelters that are also quickly filling up. The process is largely out of the public eye. The Associated Press has not been allowed in any of the Border Patrol facilities. Journalists are often limited by authorities even when going to the banks of the Rio Grande to witness the process and talk to immigrants.
Capitol fencing removed 77 days after deadly riot (USA Today) An imposing fence-line strung with razor wire has been removed from the outer perimeter of the U.S. Capitol complex, more than two months after the deadly siege. Capitol Police said Wednesday that local streets blocked by the network of barriers also had been re-opened to traffic, though authorities said they are prepared to “quickly ramp up security at a moment’s notice, if needed.” An inner-perimeter fence around the actual Capitol building will remain in place while police and lawmakers continue to hash out a long-term security plan.
US saw estimated 4,000 extra murders in 2020 amid surge in daily gun violence (Guardian) For exactly a year during the pandemic, the United States did not see a single high-profile public mass shooting. But a surge in daily gun violence contributed to an estimated 4,000 additional murders throughout 2020, in what experts warn will probably be the worst single-year increase in murders on record. Early estimates suggest the US may have seen at least 4,000 more murders last year than in 2019, and potentially as many as 5,000 more, according to projections based on FBI data, though complete official statistics will not be available until the fall. Many of the homicides are concentrated in communities of color that have historically seen the worst burden of daily gun violence, including in Philadelphia, St Louis, Chicago and Oakland.
In Myanmar, a New Resistance Rises (NYT) In a jungle in the borderlands of Myanmar, the troops sweated through basic training. They learned how to load a rifle, pull the pin of a hand grenade and assemble a firebomb. These cadets are not members of Myanmar’s military, which seized power last month and quickly imposed a battlefield brutality on the country’s populace. Instead, they are an eclectic corps of students, activists and ordinary office workers who believe that fighting back is the only way to defeat one of the world’s most ruthless armed forces. After weeks of peaceful protests, the frontline of Myanmar’s resistance to the Feb. 1 coup is mobilizing into a kind of guerrilla force. In the cities, protesters have built barricades to protect neighborhoods from military incursions and learned how to make smoke bombs on the internet. In the forests, they are training in basic warfare techniques and plotting to sabotage military-linked facilities. The opposition is a defensive response to the military’s mounting reign of terror. The Tatmadaw has cracked down on peaceful protesters and unarmed bystanders alike, killing at least 275 people since the coup, according to a monitoring group.
Torch relay for Tokyo Olympics kicks off its 121-day journey (AP) The torch relay for the postponed Tokyo Olympics began its 121-day journey across Japan on Thursday and is headed toward the opening ceremony in Tokyo on July 23. The relay began in northeastern Fukushima prefecture, the area that was devastated by the 2011 earthquake, tsunami and the meltdown of three nuclear reactors. About 18,000 died in the tragedy. About 10,000 runners are expected to take part, with the relay touching Japan’s 47 prefectures.
Taiwan beefing up its defenses (South China Morning Post) Taiwan has begun mass production of a long-range missile and is developing three other models, a senior official said on Thursday, in a rare admission of efforts to develop strike capacity amid growing pressure from mainland China. The island’s armed forces are in the middle of a modernization program to offer a more effective deterrent, including the ability to hit back at bases deep within mainland China in the event of a conflict.
Some Australians return home as others evacuated in floods crisis (Reuters) Australians hit by devastating floodwaters began returning to their homes on Thursday as skies cleared and authorities accelerated clean-up efforts, though fresh evacuation orders were issued in some areas where water levels were still rising. Relentless rains for five straight days—the worst downpour in more than half a century—burst river banks, inundating homes, roads, bridges and farms and cutting off entire towns in Australia’s east. More than 40,000 people were forced to move to safe zones and two men were killed after their cars became trapped in floodwaters. Water continued to flow from overloaded dams and rivers on Thursday, particularly in New South Wales state, leading authorities to urge caution. Major flooding also continues in Sydney’s western suburbs of North Richmond and Windsor, while fresh evacuation orders were issued for some areas in the centre of the state.
One man’s mission offers Beirut neighbourhood a vision of hope after blast (Reuters) The sheer scale of the destruction in Beirut’s Karantina district after the massive explosion at the port last August made rebuilding a daunting feat. That was where Marc Torbey El Helou, a charity worker, came in. The low-income neighbourhood was one of the closest to the blast that killed 200 people. It stands across from the giant, mutilated grain silo that has become a symbol of the tragedy. Helou decided a day after the explosion to dedicate himself, and the aid group he runs, to rebuilding the neighbourhood. Just removing the rubble required 300 truckloads. Some buildings needed immediate help to stop them collapsing. Helou says the same of Karantina’s residents. “There were children here who would not laugh or play for months.” Helou’s charity, Offre Joie (Joy of Giving), has repaired Lebanese districts hit by war and violence since 1985. “Unfortunately, it means we have the experience for this,” said Helou, 33, who has used a wheelchair since a diving accident in 2016. With the Lebanese state hollowed out by decades of corruption and failure, it fell to aid groups and volunteers like Helou to rebuild the city. Offre Joie took on six blocks in Karantina and nearby. That includes the homes of about 350 families. More than seven months after the explosion, one of the largest non-nuclear detonations on record, many residents have yet to return. But the streets are bustling with life again, and the buildings never looked so good. The charity’s budget was trapped in the bank thanks to controls imposed during Lebanon’s financial crisis. But donations poured in from abroad: up to three million dollars in cash, construction material and containers full of food. Thousands of volunteers also came, including engineers and psychologists.
Musical Chairs But The Song Never Ends (NYT) Four elections in two years have failed to give Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the necessary 61 seats to form a coalition government with a majority in Parliament. With more than 90% of Wednesday’s vote counted, Netanyahu’s right-wing alliance had 52 seats and his opponents had 56. And the gridlock extends beyond the election. Administrative stagnation has left Israel without a national budget for two consecutive years in the middle of a pandemic, and with several key Civil Service posts unstaffed. The idea that the political deadlock paralyzing the country isn’t going to get better, and in fact appears to have gotten worse, has Israelis pondering the viability of their electoral system, the functionality of their government and whether the divisions between the country’s various politics—secular and devout, right-wing and leftist, Jewish and Arab—have made the nation unmanageable. A Tel Aviv-based analyst said Israel isn’t yet a failed state, like Lebanon, because it still has institutions. “But there is definitely erosion,” she said. “Not having a budget for two years—this is really dangerous.”
Saudi official denies threat to harm UN Khashoggi investigator (Reuters) A senior Saudi official denied on Thursday he had threatened to harm the human rights expert who led the U.N. investigation into the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, after the United Nations confirmed the expert’s account of the threat. Agnes Callamard, the U.N. expert on summary killings, has said that a Saudi official threatened at a Jan. 2020 meeting in Geneva that she would be “taken care of” if she was not reined in following her investigation into the journalist’s murder. She said the remark was interpreted by U.N. officials as a “death threat”. The United Nations confirmed her account on Wednesday, describing the remark as a “threat”. Neither Callamard nor the United Nations has identified the Saudi official who made the remark. However, the head of Saudi Arabia’s human rights commission, Awwad Alawwad, identified himself as the official on Thursday, while denying he had intended any threat.
Stuck ship in Egypt’s Suez Canal imperils shipping worldwide (Washington Post) A skyscraper-sized cargo ship wedged across Egypt’s Suez Canal further imperiled global shipping Thursday as at least 150 other vessels needing to pass through the crucial waterway idled waiting for the obstruction to clear, authorities said. The Ever Given, a Panama-flagged ship that carries cargo between Asia and Europe, ran aground Tuesday in the narrow, man-made canal dividing continental Africa from the Sinai Peninsula. In the time since, efforts to free the ship using dredgers, digging and the aid of high tides have yet to push the container vessel aside—affecting billions of dollars’ worth of cargo. Overall, famed shipping journal Lloyd’s List estimates each day the Suez Canal is closed disrupts over $9 billion worth of goods that should be passing through the waterway. A quarter of all Suez Canal traffic a day comes from container ships like the Ever Given, the journal said. “Blocking something like the Suez Canal really sets in motion a number of dominos toppling each other over,” said Lars Jensen, chief executive of Denmark-based SeaIntelligence Consulting. “The effect is not only going to be the simple, immediate one with cargo being delayed over the next few weeks, but will actually have repercussions several months down the line for the supply chain.”

Wood Deck restoration Sydney- Simple Steps to a Large Problem
Have you been thinking about what your deck could look like if you took the time to really give it a once over and restore it to its original beauty. The biggest part about Wood Deck restoration Sydney is actually taking the time to do it. Once you've made that decision and you get yourself motivated you'll find that it wasn't that hard at all.
One to the biggest concerns is the condition of the building material that was used. Wood decks need to be looked at to see if there is any rot or termite damage. Look at the structure and see if it is still sound and safe to use. Don't stop at looking just at the surface of your boards, get right under it and look closely to see if there is any unnoticed damage there.
Purchase new boards of the same type of material to replace any that are beyond hope. You will notice color differences between the old wood and the new, but don't fret over it because it'll all turn out great in the end. Old decking will require a cleaning with an industrial type cleaner that does not destroy the wood fibers.
It is best if you use a biodegradable cleaner that will not destroy any plants or beneficial soil organisms. Many cleaners say they are biodegradable but in a strong solution they can still damage vegetation so be careful when using them.
Pressure washers are often used to clean decks, but should not be used by a novice because they can damage the soft fibers in your wood. If you use extreme caution and don't have the pressure set to high they do a wonderful job at restoring the look of the wood. I find that oxygen bleach is a far better way of restoring wood than any other methods including pressure washing especially for a beginner. It is environmentally safe for your plants and your pets as well as the wood or any beneficial soil organisms. In fact you'll find that it actually helps your plants by adding extra oxygen to the roots.
The trick for it to work is to let it soak right into the wood so it can do its magic there. Brush it in and don't let it go dry and you'll have a new looking deck that is uniform in color. Rinse it off with a garden hose and let it dry before adding a stain and sealer.
Steve's Deck Rescue P/L provides a wide range of professional restoration & repairs of decking to domestic and commercial clients across Sydney. If you’re looking for exceptional decking whether it’s Pressure Wash Deck Sydney, Timber Deck Sanding Sydney, re oiling deck and hardwood or outdoor decking in the western suburbs of Sydney, you can trust Steve's Deck Rescue.

Sydney Wet Weather: Smashed Lambos, Transport Delays and Waterspouts
Sydney has been drenched by its heaviest rain in three months today, with accidents, transport delays and coastal water spouts a result of the torrential downpour. With flooding on many Sydney roads, a Lamborghini sports car slammed into a tree when it hit an aquaplane in Fairfield, Sydney's west. There were also delays for commuters when flooding caused a stop to Light Rail services between Central and The Star because of flooding at Capitol Square. A waterspout was spotted swirling off Clovelly Beach, in Sydney's eastern suburbs a result of the strong winds which reached more than 24km/h in areas including Cronulla in Sydney's south. Sydney Observatory has recorded more than 30mm of rain and Sydney Airport saw close to 15mm. At its heaviest, catchments saw 14mm of rain fall in just 20 minutes. The city's earlier torrential downpour was due to a low pressure trough near the central coast of NSW which caused showers across the Sydney Basin. More info please visit.

Why You Need Upholstery Cleaning Services
Whether you want to refresh your living room with a slick new sofa, or you just want to get rid of stubborn stains, professional fabric upholstery cleaning Sydney is your best option. Unlike DIY cleaning methods, professionals use certified chemicals and advanced technologies to get your upholstery looking brand new. In Sydney, most upholstery cleaning experts are certified and know how to properly assess the level of damage and set the temperature of the HWE. These cleaning experts inject hot water into the fabric and suckulate the dirt out of the fabric.
Hot Water Extraction Method
Steam cleaning and hot water extraction are two common methods of removing dirt and germs from your upholstered furniture. Most people confuse these two methods, but steam cleaning uses a vapour of hot water to clean your upholstery, whereas hot water extraction uses hot water directly at high pressure to remove all the dirt and germs. Both methods have their benefits and drawbacks. Choosing the right one for your particular furniture depends on its purpose and type.
Dust mite Treatment
Dust is a major contributor to the appearance of upholstery. These particles have rough edges, and they contribute to the degrading of fabric fibers. Regular upholstery cleaning helps prevent the buildup of dust and preserve the life of the material. Many people suffer from allergies throughout the year. Getting your furniture professionally cleaned will remove embedded allergens and restore it to like new condition. Professional upholstery cleaning services like Toms Upholstery Cleaning will remove the accumulated dust and allergens and rejuvenate your upholstered furniture.
Scotchgard Protection
If you want to protect your furniture from stains, consider Scotchgard fabric and upholstery protection. The product is effective in protecting your upholstery against spills and keeps dirt and stains from getting trapped in the fibres. It can also be used to remove accumulated dust. A damp cloth can be used to wipe off the product. Moreover, the Scotchgard protection will last a longer period of time.
Stain Removal
While we often think of professional furniture cleaners when we hear about a stain on the couch, the truth is that there are several different factors that determine the success of the upholstery cleaning process. In addition to cleaning the fabric itself, a professional cleaner will also use specialised cleaning tools and equipment to effectively remove stains and soils from upholstery. In addition to cleaning fabric upholstery, professional cleaners will also use safe, non-toxic products to protect the health and appearance of your furnishings.
Cost
Regularly maintaining your upholstery is essential to keeping it clean. A professional cleaning service will be able to revive even the most faded furniture. A typical cleaning takes three to six hours, depending on the material. If possible, leave the windows open while the upholstery is drying. The drying time will vary from room to room. For most jobs, the cost of fabric upholstery cleaning Sydney will be under $300. But if you're worried about the cost of upholstery cleaning, here are some tips to keep in mind:

NOSFERATU on The Schlocky Horror Picture Show
July 27, 2008
OPENING: Hello, good evening, and welcome to the Schlocky Horror Picture Show. I'm your host, Nigel Honeybone. Back in the 1920s, German director F.W. Murnau was so impressed with Bram Stoker's novel Dracula, he made Nosferatu: A Symphony Of Horror, which remains one of the greatest horror films of all time. The trouble is Murnau didn't have permission, so he simply changed the character names and locales in the script. Harker became Hutter, Dracula became Orlok, England 1890 became Germany 1830, etc. But when the film was translated for English-speaking audiences, the powers-that-be chose to use Bram Stoker's original familiar character names, but in the process a few typos occurred, for instance Mina Harker becomes Ellen Hutter becomes Nina Harker, understand? I don't... Like so many silent films, the images may be Public Domain, but the soundtrack remains copyright protected. So to accompany us on this Symphony Of Horror we have the nerve-jangling sounds of local composer Jeremy Newton, ably assisted by Nat Scott-Quinell. Ladies, Gentlemen and Creatures Of The Night, I am extremely proud, for a change, to present the enigmatic Max Schreck as the grand daddy of all vampires in FW Murnau's original Nosferatu... BREAK: Watch the embodiment of evil spread plague across the land, then after the ads we can get back to the chilling Nosferatu on the Schlocky Horror Picture Show. MIDDLE: Hello, and welcome back to The Schlocky Horror Picture Show. Nosferatu! The name itself is enough to induce an excrement hemorrhage in anyone who watched this movie during their youth, like I did. I mean, those fingernails! He clearly isn't getting regular manicures. Brrrrr! And Nosferatu had the shaved-head look long before it was trendy. Overall, it's one fine piece of cinema. Contrary to popular opinion, the word Nosferatu does not mean Vampire, Undead, or anything else like that. The term originally came from the old Slavonic word "nosufur-atu", which itself was derived from the Greek Nosophoros. Nosophoros, in the original Greek, stands for Plague Carrier. This derivation makes sense when one considers that amongst western European nations, vampires were regarded as the carriers of many diseases, such as sexually transmitted diseases, TB, and reality television. The full title is "Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens." As you've no doubt surmised, Nosferatu was directed by a German. In this case it's Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, one of the "Big Three" Weimar republic filmmakers along with Fritz Lang and G.W. Pabst. Murnau's work often appears on critic's best film lists and he's cited as an influence by filmmakers to this day, yet there seems to be little that gives his work and career the notice it deserves. Not surprising, considering his yet to be fashionable lifestyle choices and somewhat suspicious death in a car accident in 1931. The film stars the aptly named Max Shreck as the vampire. Schreck, in case you weren't aware of it, is the German word meaning "fear". How cool is that? Schreck was a Stanislovsky method actor, which meant that he immersed himself fully in the character...as well as the unconsecrated soil of Transylvania. He was so effective that some on the set of Nosferatu believed that Shreck might actually be a vampire. This conceit was later used in "Shadow of the Vampire", a 2000 release starring John Malkovich as Murnau and Willem Dafoe as Max Shreck, a vampire pretending to be an actor. What's interesting is how the world almost lost the chance to see Nosferatu at all. Unfortunately for production company Prana Films, this unlicensed adaptation of Dracula was too thinly veiled, and Florence Stoker, widow of the late Bram Stoker, sued with the help of lawyers from the British Incorporated Society of Authors. However, Stoker and the BISA weren't the only people pursuing Prana-Films: Prana was a sinking ship running aground on a financial reef. Just as the BISA sued Prana, it went into receivership and all materials and debts were taken over by the Deutsch-Amerikansch Film Union. The BISA then pursued the Film
Union and demanded that all copies of Nosferatu be surrendered. In July 1925, the issue was settled and all known copies of Nosferatu were handed over to Stoker, and destroyed. Or so Stoker thought. In October of that year, the Film Society in England asked her to endorse a classic film festival, and first on the list was the infamous Nosferatu. Stoker was furious and demanded that the Society give her their copy, but the Film Society refused and legalities followed. By 1928 Universal Pictures owned the screen rights for Dracula, and therefore all adaptations of it, including Nosferatu. Initially, Universal allowed the Film Society to keep the print, but after pressure from Florence Stoker they acquired the print, and it joined its departed kin in 1929. Then came a sudden spurt of American copies of the film under the name Nosferatu the Vampire, but Universal had them all destroyed in 1930. It finally seemed as though this pesky film had met its end. This was not the case though. Following Florence Stoker's death in 1937, copies of the film started cropping up again, as if the celluloid itself was among the immortal undead. Nosferatu truly regained its popularity in 1960 due to American television screenings, and in 1972 Blackhawk Films released the uncut original to the collector's market as Nosferatu the Vampire, which brings us up today. Now, due to it's availability via the Public Domain, it's damn near impossible to find a DVD horror collection that doesn't have a copy of Nosferatu! But only our version has a brand spanking new soundtrack by Sydney composer Jeremy Newton, who we now cross to almost "live" via satellite. Welcome to the show, Mr. Newton... Jeremy: Good evening. Nigel: Jeremy... you don't mind if I call you Jeremy? Jeremy: No, not at all. Nigel: I'm sorry, Mr, Newton, that's all we have time for tonight. As you know, these live satellite crosses cost quite a bit more than community TV can afford... Jeremy: I'm only in Marrickville! Nigel: So without any further ado, let's get straight back to tonight's special presentation of the original 1922 silent classic Nosferatu. CLOSING: After almost a century, the original Nosferatu is a film that has eventually grown on me. Its frank gruesome quality is a stark contrast to the scratchy clean horror of Universal's horror films of the 1930's and 1940's, and the completely unromantic treatment of the Count fits well with modern cynicism. Max Schreck's Orlok is one of the most familiar images in film history, or for that matter in the history of images. So please join me next week on The Schlocky Horror Picture Show when I have the opportunity of inflicting a pain beyond pain, an agony so intense it shocks the mind into instant mashed potato! Toodles!

Pressure Wash Deck Sydney
A beautiful wooden deck, properly maintained, can add greatly to the aesthetic and resale values of a home.
Just look around, decks are almost everywhere. Not just houses but both municipal and commercial facilities use wooden decks and walkways extensively. Because of this Pressure Wash Deck Sydney can be a great profit center for your business or even the whole business.
The great news is that decks need maintenance. As beautiful as a wooden deck can be it can be a real eyesore if not properly maintained.
Why Decks Need Maintenance
When a wood deck absorbs water the natural resins and color can be washed out over time. The combination of wood and water creates a food source for mildew, fungus and mold promoting their growth. Wood and water combined with dirt and even air pollution will also contribute to the proliferation of mildew, fungus and molds. One thing to remember is that a wet deck with a thick coating of mildew is very slick and slippery. This creates one heck of a "slip and fall" liability problem
Inspect
When organizing your project or preparing your bid make some simple observations. Has the deck ever been sealed? Is there old sealer that needs to be stripped and reapplied? Do I have all the chemicals, tools and equipment required for this project? (We will include a sample list at the end of this article). Is there any damaged or rotted wood that needs to be replaced? (Now is a good time to measure.) Are the any missing or loose bolts, nails or screws? Are there any adjacent bushes or plants that need to be protected? Are there any electrical appliances, outlets, light fixtures or telephone jacks?
Beginning
OK you've cleared everything from the deck and placed it far enough to be out of harm’s way. You've locked out the circuit breakers that provide electrical service to the deck area. Outlets, fixtures and jacks have been sealed water tight. Close proximity plants and bushes have been protected with a clear plastic tarp. Loose bolts, nails and screws have been tightened or replaced with galvanized fasteners. Rotted or damaged wood has been replaced. Only now are you really ready to begin. Clear the Deck of Dirt and Debris with a stiff bristle broom or a leaf blower clear all loose dirt and debris from the surface of the deck..
What Chemicals to Use
Sodium Hydroxide (a high caustic chemical) is very popular with professional deck cleaners. Because this chemical does most of the work very low pressures of 500-1200 PSI can be used which helps avoid the condition known as "furring".
Safety note: Always wear headgear with face shields and cartridge type respirators when working with high caustic or acidic chemicals. This is not a suggestion it's a must. While Sodium Hydroxide is a very effective chemical it will darken or may even blacken the deck. Because of this the PH will have to be neutralized with a mild acidic solution. Acids used are Citrus, Oxalic or Phosphoric. These acid solutions will act as brighteners. Neutralizing the PH of a high caustic cleaner will restore a deck very close to its original color.
Add approx. 5oz. acid to each gallon of water.
Citrus Acid- Used on hardwoods.
Oxalic Acid- Primarily used on redwoods.
Phosphoric Acid- Used when an unfinished deck has turned "gray".
I'm very hesitant to suggest a pressure level when it comes to cleaning decks because it's just so subjective. One deck will have harder wood than another and other decks will have softer and harder areas on the same deck. In this respect only experience can really guide you. As a general rule of thumb use the least amount of pressure that will get the job done. Test pressure on an inconspicuous area of the deck. The underside works well for this Excessive Pressure.
Excessive pressure will cause a deck to "fur". This is the appearance of small hair like fibers protruding from the wood. Your customers will not like the way this looks and light sanding will be required to correct this condition.
Ready, Set, Go!
Soak the area to be cleaned thoroughly. This serves several purposes but most importantly, the deck must remain damp throughout the entire cleaning process. Apply cleaning chemical with the applicator of your choice. When just starting out a pump up type sprayer will work nicely. Allow your chemical to dwell for 15-20 minutes. Do not allow to dry. If necessary spray more water or reapply chemical. If you've sufficiently dampened the deck and haven't dawdled this shouldn't be a big problem. Clean. Remember when cleaning use low pressure. Never clean against the grain or across the grain. Feather each pass. The pressure used should be enough to remove dead wood but not enough to cause "furring" Experience will be your best teacher. Rinse deck thoroughly removing all chemical. Apply neutralizer/brightener solution, wait 10-15 minutes and rinse well again. If you are going to seal wait 24 hours if not 48. If you chose your day well rain won't become a problem.
"Furring" Happens.
Sometimes "furring will become apparent even at low pressures. These short hairs like fibers are the result of a "tearing" action on the wood. These will probably be gone in 2-3 weeks but your customer will want them gone sooner than later. Give them a light sanding with a bronze metal scrubbing pad. Use bronze, steel wool can leave rust stains.
Remember practice makes perfect get out there and start learning. Steve's Deck Rescue P/L provides a wide range of professional renovation & repairs of decking to domestic and commercial clients across Sydney. If you’re looking for exceptional decking whether it’s Deck Refinishing Sydney, Timber Deck Maintenance Sydney, re oiling deck and hardwood or outdoor decking in the western suburbs of Sydney, you can trust Steve's Deck Rescue.

Day 105
11/7/2017
I know I haven’t posted in a while. We have been working lately with Keep Jackson Beautiful cleaning up vacant lots around the city.
On Saturday we worked with the recycling effort during the tailgate and homecoming football game at Jackson State University. That was fun!
Last week we were cleaning out a lot which had approximately 10,000 beer bottles. It was a lot. We found other things, such as razor wire, a diabetes medicine auto-injector, a 40 caliber handgun magazine, several shoes and a piece of a boat. anyway, as we were bagging up the endless glass, (which Jackson sadly does not recycle) Sydney was picking up a bag when a piece of glass slashed her leg. We ended up having to end work early to get her stitches at a nearby urgent care. She really didn’t want to go, (she also took the pressure off the cut so she could take a selfie) That was an adventure.
What the heck actually happened today. Today I think we cleaned out something like 14 lots full of litter, as well as mowing and weed whacking them. We saw a kitten! I named it ernest after ernest hemingway. Because that lot was not full of bud light bottles and malt liquor, but instead Gin and Cognac. I feel those are troubled writer booze. Ernest. He was super cute but sadly we couldn’t take him with us.
We did some clean up at the JSU stadium and emptied recycling in the stadium itself. We get to drive our van INSIDE the actual stadium and go up in the press box it is pretty cool.
It is supposed to rain tomorrow so we are working on a painting project instead of outdoor cleanup. Or maybe its still cleanup but the point is it will be inside instead. We have a short week this week because we get veterans day off on friday. I’m trying to think if there are any WWI movies we could watch on friday.... all I can think of is All Quiet on the Western Front. maybe Wonder Woman..... anyway
I need to sleep. David just texted me asking if I wanted to go running tomorrow morning. We have been trying to work together on our goals as a team and a few of us have been running regularly and keeping a log on the fridge. I really like it and it motivates me to keep doing stuff.
Speaking of doing stuff I don’t want to do I need to sleep. If you read this, I’m making it your responsibility to bother me to post more on this god forsaken thing.
its not really god forsaken. I just like the phrase god forsaken.
Also did you see those election results? go Ralph! did you vote? also I am curious to see what the 42nd district will do without Dave Albo. he’s been in office forever hasn’t he? anyway goodnight. Vote in 2018.
g’night
sleep tight
don’t let the friggin fire ants bite they are everywhere.
