Does anyone understand what it means that Ecuador, which used to be the second safest country in South America, is in a state of emergency, am I going insane is it just me???
#rambles#i feel for my Latinx siblings. I've been obsessively checking the socials of my Ecuadorian friends.#i have family near the Ecuador/Colombia border and seeing that Peru deployed their army to the border as a contingency measure#(to prevent the violence from spilling over into their country) is stressing me out more than a little bit#i think our president is going to announce the same measure in a bit. not that I think it'd stop the cartels who control alternate routes 🤷#what do I know though. I'm still in shock

Peru’s former president Alejandro Toledo has been sentenced to 20 years and six months in prison after he was linked to a corruption scandal involving Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht. Odebrecht became synonymous with corruption across Latin America after the firm paid millions of dollars in bribes to government officials and others. Authorities accused Toledo of accepting 35 million dollars (£26.9 million) in bribes from Odebrecht in exchange for allowing the construction of a highway in the South American country. The National Superior Court of Specialised Criminal Justice in Lima, Peru’s capital, imposed the sentence after years of legal wrangling. Such wrangling included a dispute over whether Toledo, who governed Peru from 2001 to 2006, could be extradited from the United States.

Honestly what baffles me is the fact that Castillo decided to make a coup when he didn't have any support
if he hadn't there would still be a possibility that he wouldn't have been impeached and even if he had, he would have had the chance to victimize himself and run to an embassy
But no he decided for a coup, one of the worst crimes, and ran at the last minute towards the Mexican embassy and as such he was detained by the police
My dude... why????!!!

Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori Dies at 86
Alberto Fujimori, former President of Peru, has passed away at the age of 86, according to his daughter. Fujimori, who led Peru from 1990 to 2000, was known for his controversial presidency marked by significant human rights abuses and corruption.
Fujimori’s tenure was marked by his aggressive stance against the left-wing guerrilla movement, which earned him both praise and criticism. While his supporters credit him with defeating insurgents and stabilizing the economy, his administration was also accused of severe human rights violations, including the use of death squads.
Fujimori’s political career ended in scandal, leading to his resignation amid corruption allegations. After fleeing Peru, he was arrested, extradited, and subsequently convicted of multiple charges, including corruption and human rights abuses. He served over 15 years of a 25-year prison sentence before his release in December due to a reinstated presidential pardon.
His daughter, Keiko Fujimori, announced his death on social media, stating he had been battling tongue cancer. Dr. Jose Carlos Gutierrez confirmed Fujimori’s death was due to complications related to his cancer treatment.
Fujimori's legacy remains deeply divided. Supporters view him as a savior who stabilized Peru, while critics see him as a dictator who presided over a regime responsible for numerous atrocities. His daughter Keiko, currently a prominent political figure in Peru, has indicated plans to run for president again in 2026.

A tale of two leaders: Alan Garcia of Peru and Marcelo Oberbrecht of Brazil
Alan Gabriel Ludwig Garcia Perez was born May 23, 1949, Lima, Peru at 3 am. This gives him the symbol of 16 Libra (HS) “terrific winds in the stratosphere.” Coupled with Neptune at 13 Libra explains a lot of his personality that seems more undulations of bravado than plans. At 6′ 4″ (193 cm) tall he had a commanding appearance. Born in APRA Both his parents were members of the rebel group…

Y’all I genuinely urge you to stay up to date with world politics.
In my country, Venezuela, elections have just been held and the blatant disrespect that the so called government have for their people is astonishing.
How can they claim that Nicolas Maduro, one of the most hated dictators of our time, won 51%/5+ million votes?
How is it possible that he won when the voting panels have been updating every hour how Edmundo Gonzalez (the opposing candidate) has been winning by TRIPLE the vote?
How is it possible that most of the 7.3 million Venezuelan immigrants can’t vote and have no say in what goes on the country that gave them life?
How is it possible that Venezuelans have to fear for their life in voting stations because the military are set there to prevent them from voting?
How is it possible that the pig that’s called president is currently celebrating his “well-earned” victory?
Countries like Chile and Peru are already making statements that they will not recognize the results given by the CNE (the Venezuelan electoral system)
FREAKING ELON MUSK IS MAKING TWEETS REGARDING THE SITUATION
I think it’s sickening how all people can do is talk about it and not do a single thing about it, especially because as a society we try to condemn any harm to human rights just like how we did Russia, who by the way, is one of the dictatorships biggest supporters.
VENEZUELA HAS BEEN FACING AN HUMANITARIAN CRISIS!!!!
People have been facing literal hell since the late 90s and people in power DO. NOT. CARE.
Educate yourself, educate others, and most importantly TALK ABOUT IT, because I’m certain we’re not the first or the last country to go through this.
This is as much as I’ll say.
I hope they all rot in hell.

#venezuela#politics suck#I genuinely wanna go there and pull a rambo and kill all those motherfuckers

(Nov. 29) Indigenous Group Wins Fight to Reclaim Ancestral Land After Being Forced Out 8 Decades Ago
In a major victory for Indigenous rights, an Ecuadorian appeals court has sided with the Siekopai Nation to regain ownership of their ancestral homeland in the Amazon rainforest. The Siekopai people were forced out of their territory, called Pë’këya, over 80 years ago during the Peru-Ecuador War in the 1940s. This ruling will mark the first time the Ecuadorian government grants a land title to an Indigenous community whose ancestral land is now a protected area. The Siekopai are on the brink of extinction with a population of only 800 people in Ecuador and 1,200 in Peru. In a statement, Siekopai Nation President Elias Piyahuaje said, “We are fighting for the preservation of our culture on this planet. Without this territory, we cannot exist as Siekopai people. Today is a great day for our nation. Until the end of time, this land will be ours.”
