The crack of ice is louder than Steve expects. Thunderous roars from beneath the sheet of ice as he rushes forward to shove a small child out of the way of a harsh, jagged line. Then there's a snap as the ice gives way beneath him.
And the water is cold, so cold.
Steve's small body is wracked with white hot pain from the cold. His lungs burned with a need to cough, his asthma flaring with the sudden change in temperature and he had to fight it as he tried to swim to the surface. The heavy coat Bucky had insisted he wear dragged him downward.
Then it's black. Entirely black.
Fear settles in the pit of his stomach and then he's... being lifted? There's arms around his middle, and someone is definitely kicking at his shins occasionally as they pull him back up to the surface.
When he breaks the surface he takes a long gasping breath that causes a coughing fit. Bucky's blurry face comes into view as he helps to lift Steve out of the water muttering away about how he can't turn his back for one second.
Steve is still hacking up a lung on the ice when Bucky reaches behind Steve to pull Steve's rescuer from the icy depths. Vaguely aware he's gaining onlookers, Steve curls in on himself to shield himself from the embarassment.
"Hey! You alright?"
There's a hard tug on Steve’s shoulder, turning him onto his back and Steve's eyes widen as he looks up into the eyes of prettiest, yet soggiest, dame he'd ever seen. His heart thuds angrily, he pushes down a wave of coughing to let out a choked, "I'm good, thanks."
You sit back onto your haunches and sigh with relief. "I saw you save that kid then go under. I just... dived right in after you."
You give a nervous chuckle and Steve sits himself up onto his hands, his cheeks beginning to turn a sweet shade of glowing pink. Bucky glares between you both.
"You're both morons." He says folding his arms. "I had to grab you both."
Both you and Steve offer Bucky a sheepish grin and a quiet thank you and he sighs.
"Yeah, well, you made me look good in front of my date I guess so there's that." Bucky cracks a smile before turning to Steve. "Go home and change. Your ma would haunt me if I let you get pneumonia.... again."
Steve rolls his eyes and gets to his feet carefully before offering you a hand. You try not to pull too hard as you stand and give Steve a smile. The cool breeze makes the both of you shiver, your wet clothes clinging to your skin and sending a chill to your bones.
"And you," Bucky turns back to you. "Thanks for saving Stevie."
Before Bucky can add anything about walking you home, Steve beats him to it.
"How many blocks away are you?" Steve asks as you shuffle past Bucky with another small thanks.
"About five." You puff, fighting another shiver. "You?"
"Two blocks." Steve says, shucking off his heavy, soaked coat and placing it over your shoulders. "We could..." Steve clears his throat. "Stop at mine first and get you some dry clothes first?"
Bucky watches with an impressed smile as Steve acts the gentleman, but there's a slight worry in his eyes as he know how dames usually respond to Steve.
But you wrap Steve's coat around his shoulders as well, cocooning you both from the cold. Your heart had been skipping wildly, even more so when Steve had given you his coat despite also being soaked in this freezing weather. You couldn't resist a gentleman.
"Don't suppose you have any coffee you could give me too?" You ask playfully as you both begin to walk to Steve's apartment.
"I... um, yes." Steve doesn't know how to process his excitement or how his heart rate has spiked again.
He halts to cough hard almost doubling over but he feels your hand gently placed on the centre of his back. He looks up at you bleary eyed and you smile down softly at him.
"Take your time. I've got all the time in the world."

Chapter Four - A month later, Bucky and Steve's apartment, 8:30 am
Chapter warnings: some fluff/bonding time, more of a filler chapter.
Word count: 1702 words
"James Barnes!" Addie shouted from the living room as she stamped her foot. "Is anyone gonna be excited that I got a job??"
"Wait what??" Steve poked his head from the kitchen where the scent of oatmeal came wafting through the small room.
"I got a job, Stevie!" Addie jumped once. "Where's Bucky?"
"Uh, I'm not sure."
"Is that man still asleep? JAMES!!"
A loud--and objecting--groan was heard from Bucky's room where Addie found the man still sprawled out on his bed.
"Bucky! It's amazing because guess who's little girl got a job!?" She jumped on the bed and yanked the pillow out from under his head.
"Doll, it is wayyyy to early to be so happy-" he groaned again rubbing his eyes. "Wait- a job??"
"Yes, you bug lump!" Addie smacked his chest. "I got a job down at the drug store! They said I could start this evening!"
"Look at you go!" Bucky sat up, his bed-head making her laugh. "But this couldn't have waited till afte I actually woke up?"
"James." She made a mock-pout, but inside she knew he really did care.
"I'm playing, Adding machine." He poked her before stretching his shoulders.
"I know, but what can I say? I've been bored out my mind with no job, but now that's all changed! Steve's got breakfast coming too."
"Steve's cooking?"
"He had the stove on, that's progress." She teased.
"Get outa here so I can change." He pushed her, gently of course, to which she snickered and fought the dirty comment that rose in her mind. Instead she made her way to the kitchen where Steve was finishing off the oatmeal.
"Hey, Addie." He waved before turning back to his work. "What did Buck say?"
"He's happy for me, of course this was after I pulled on his arm a little." She grinned, but her own words made her reconsider what she meant. In a little less than a decade the man in the other room would be the world's greatest assassin with a titanium arm shoved into his shoulder.
"Whats with the face?" Steve sat down with his bowl, startling Addie from her thoughts. "You look sad."
"Oh, sorry, I just... nothing important. You might not believe me either..."
"That's what you said about how old you were," he gave her the side eye while he took a bite of his breakfast.
"Nah, it's not that important, Steve. I'm here, ain't I?"
"True," he smiled. "Oh, sorry, do you want a bowl?"
"Ooh, yes please, I'm starved."
"I had an idea last night," Steve spoke as he scooped a large helping into another bowl for her.
"Spill." She rested her chin in her hands. "I'm all ears."
"Would you mind modeling for me? I wanna try and draw you."
"Really?? Me??"
"You should see his works," Bucky commented as he wandered into the kitchen. "He's really good."
"I've seen his doodles," she smiled before catching herself.
"Where?" Steve set the bowl down before getting her a spoon.
"Uh..." she couldn't very well say a movie that came out over 100 years later. "I took out the trash and I think your drawing fell on the floor. I put it back in the book for you."
"Oh, well, thanks Ad." Steve smiled and sat back down. "Anyway, whadya say?"
"Well, I'd have to do it on my day off though. That should be Saturday."
"Perfect. Thanks." He nodded. "I'll be looking forward to it."
"You're sweet." She patted his hand.
"Awwwwwww." Bucky made a face.
"You can shut your mouth, Barnes." Addie half-scolded.
"Ouch, my heart." Bucky frowned.
Addie smirked and shook her head. "You're a sad sack of bananas, Buck."
"Wow, she's getting better." Steve looked at Bucky who had his hands on his hips, his tongue running along his teeth.
"One day I'll learn to keep my mouth shut."
"But it is not this day!" Addie raised a finger. She knew neither of the two would get the reference, but screw the timeline.
That Saturday
"Now don't move a muscle-" Steve tapped Addie's shoulder before backing up and fixing the curtain for the right lighting. "You look just perfect. Now the bad news is you have to stay just like that until I say so."
"Oh, fun." Addie rolled her eyes, being careful not to move.
"I won't be long." Steve reassure before sitting on the floor and picking up his pencil.
"And you're sure no one will come in here?" She asked, sounding a little hesitant.
"Trust me doll. Buck won't be back for hours."
"Where is he, by the way? I saw him this morning, but after that he just ran off."
"It's Mother's Day tomorrow, he went to see his Ma." Steve didn't look up as he carefully drew her curves that were projected onto the screen where she stood only in the tights that had stayed with her during the "Trip". She rested her ankle on the radiator(it was off of course), stretching her leg straight out, almost taking the stance of a ballerina.
Her mane of hair tumbled over her shoulder and she held her hands above her head.
"Ah, that's nice." She smiled, forcing down her desire to see her own mother, not even see her, just talk to her.
"Steve?"
"Yeah?"
"I want your opinion."
"Okay, shoot."
"I was thinking about joining the Auxiliary Corps and...I don't know if I should tell Mr. Bob first or wait till I get my letter and THEN tell him."
All she could hear was the sudden drop of a pencil on the hardwood floor.
"Steve?"
"You want to join the Army???"
"It's not the Army, but it's more like the Red Cross. I want to help people, and I can't very well go out and fight with the war coming."
Oop. Another slip. The Second World War hadn't started yet.
"We don't know if we will go to war, kid." Steve tried to sound wiser, but even still Addie knew he wanted to fight as well. And he would get pretty of it soon...
"Speaking of which, where did you get that bruise on your jaw?"
"What?" She smirked when she heard his pencil stop moving.
"You heard me, Steve."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Alright then," she knew he couldn't see her shit-eating grin, but it was worth it. "I'll ask Bucky then."
"Addison."
"What? I care, Steve. You can't be picking fights with every boy on the street just because he ruffled your hair."
"It's not like that.."
"I'm sorry," Addie suppressed her sigh. "Okay, I know it's hard. But don't worry, give it a few years, maybe you just have one last growth spurt and it's taking it's sweet time."
"You can say that again." Steve muttered before his pencil started moving again. "Hey, lift your chin just a little more."
Addie obeyed him, keeping her neck stiff. "Like that?"
"Perfect."
"I'm serious, Steve. Things will get better, I promise."
"Well-...how do you know?"
"I just do. Can you take my word for it?"
"Alright, Adding Machine." She could hear the laughter in Steve's voice when he used Bucky's nickname for her. "Thanks."
"That looks really good!" Bucky grinned as he handed the drawing back to Steve. "She's quite the looker."
"I can hear you, Bucky!" Addie called from the other room where she was changing back into her dress. She had grown the love the dresses, the modesty was very elegant yet just revealing enough to send the men whistling.
"So what?" Bucky shot back.
"So you're coy!"
"Again, so what?"
Addie rolled her eyes and shook her head. She liked this Bucky, he was happy and he had Steve. Meanwhile the future Captain America seemed a little glum. He couldn't very well work(not without multiple breaks and his asthma limited everything), but Addie would find a way around this..
"You might want to talk to Bucky about what you told me this morning." Steve suggested as Addie strolled into the living room where she halfway sat on the couch's armrest.
"Are you keeping secrets?" Bucky teased as he tickled behind her ear playfully. For a grown man he was very affectionate.
"Maybe," Addie shrugged, trying to sound as is she was hiding something to humor him.
"Steve, we took in a jerk."
Steve just rolled his eyes and simply watching the exchange.
"I am a jerk, flattery will gain you nothing, Barnes."
"Just tell him, Ad." Steve laughed.
"I was thinking about joining the Auxiliary Corps." She sobered and looked at Bucky. "But I wanted to ask you guys' opinion on wether I should tell Mr. Bob now, or wait till I get my letter and then tell him."
Bucky was silent as he exchanged a glance with Steve.
"You act like we're already at war!" He objected, failing at hiding his dismay.
"I said I was thinking about it, Bucky. You know I just wouldn't leave you two like that." But war was coming, wether they liked it or not. And both of them would be heavily affected by it.
"But what about Steve?" Now he was coming up with excuses. "You can't just leave him!"
"Bucky, you aren't listening to me."
"But you can't!"
"Okay," she stood up and walked to him. "James, look at me. I am not going anywhere right now. I see you guys every day and I love you both. But as I said I am thinking about it. I haven't made up my mind yet. Besides, if we do go to war, I want to do all I can, as I'm sure you both will."
Bucky sighed and looked down. "I'm sorry, Ad. You just-...you're the best gal we got and I don't know what we would do without you. What did you tell her, Steve?"
"I didn't say anything, but I'm on the same train as Buck. We'd be lost without you."
"You guys are sweet." Addie still blushed even after a month and half with these guys. "It'll be a shame when I marry one of you."
"Wait- what?" Steve actually spun around on the couch.
"Okay, Ads that was a dumb move."

I want so badly for them to be ok, to get through this and be together forever and live happily ever after.
but i also want her to climb the bucky tree. just once lol. its the chaos in me. and i think theyd have a great time!
Non-Sequential [Ch. 17]
Pairing: Pre-Serum Steve Rogers/Steve Rogers x Reader
One night, Steve Rogers met a beautiful dame named Y/N. He hadn’t intended on letting her get away. But fate had other ideas. Y/N appeared and disappeared in his life so hauntingly that Steve started to wonder if she was an angel meant to watch over him.
Word Count: 3,400
Chapter 16
“She hates me,” Steve whispered the moment they were alone.
Bucky sighed.
Before calling Steve, Bucky hadn’t realized his actions would put him between Y/N and his best friend. He wanted to be there for both of them. Except he couldn’t side with Steve when he had been a complete and utter idiot. And he had no problem saying that to the punk, either.
“You know Steve…” Bucky sighed again. “You got pumped full of glorified steroids that made you grow a foot and gain over a hundred pounds.” Then he shook his head. “But it clearly didn’t do a thing to that head of yours, because you’re still shit with women.”
Despite the truth behind the insult, Steve still glared at Bucky.
“Thanks. Real helpful.”

Being as he was, Steve always felt out of place. He never held a girl’s attention like his best friend, Bucky. He never had a first kiss, a first date, nothing. He was always stuck at home with his mother to care for him. Of course, Bucky was always hanging about or dragging him places– which Steve never minded. He held Bucky to high standards because, for once, Steve had someone to hang with, someone who didn’t treat him like he was so fragile. Someone who saw Steve for who he was.
Steve had met Bucky a few years ago. He was maybe thirteen or fourteen. Who really remembered? He was fighting a bully in an alleyway next to an ice cream shop. Well, the bully was fighting, and Steve was groaning and hacking up a lung, trying to defend the poor cat that the bully had been torturing.
Bucky had heard the grunts and trash cans being knocked over and of course, he was drawn to the noise. He’d watched for only a second before he had sighed and rolled up the sleeves of his shirt, preparing to lay one on this bigger guy. Bucky had taken a few steps into the alley and clocked his fist right into the man’s skull, causing him to stumble forward and lose his balance. “Come on, punk.” He called, beckoning over to the little blonde man, who had a bloody and what looked to be a broken nose. He’d taken the shorter man back to his home, where Bucky’s mother had helped him heal. Steve stayed at Bucky’s house every day after school for the rest of the month.
So now, it was years later. Bucky had gone off to fight in a war America had no business fighting in. Steve had walked around, finally making a stop at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where he studied the paintings and sculptures to pass the time. He thought about everything in his mind. He thought about how he’d wanted to become a professional painter. He thought about his friendship with Bucky. He thought about his mother and how grateful he was that she was with him.
Steve thought about many things as he strolled through the rooms, looking at everything around him. He’d been so busy looking he hadn’t noticed you were just as preoccupied looking as well. He’d bumped into you, knocking you both onto the ground.
You let out a surprised cry as your butt had collided with the marble flooring, knocking the brochure out of your hand.
“I’m-I’m sorry,” Steve mumbled as he scurried to his feet and helped you to your own.
“It’s okay!” you nearly giggle at the redness on his face.
“Are you hurt?” he asked you, voice timid and unsure.
You shook your head, grinning at the small, handsome blond man. “No, of course not. It was hardly a fall.”
He nodded, running a hand through his short locks of hair. “Um-”
You only shrugged before gently intertwining your arms together, making Steve stutter even more. “Would you like to take a tour with me?”
“Yes.” He blinked, not knowing what else to say, thinking about how proud Bucky would be of him had he been standing next to him. “Of course, I would.”
“Great!”

Muse
Pairing: Pre-Serum Steve Rogers x Reader
Summary: Steve’s little art hobby wasn’t necessarily a secret, but how good he was at it? That part was.
Word Count: 1552
Warnings: Fluff, eluded angst and insecurity from Steve
A/N: This is for a writing challenge by @jbbuckybarnes. I truly tried my best to make this my absolute most inclusive piece of writing, so if you have any constructive criticism on how I can do that better please message me.
I do not own these characters. Do NOT repost my writing and/or fics anywhere without my written permission. Reblogs welcome and highly appreciated.
Bright sunlight pranced throughout the small Brooklyn apartment, flittering and flickering through the air. A few tea light candles were strewn around on flat surfaces, emanating a soft vanilla scent that enhanced the sweetness that lingered from the nights dessert, a rare thing but a necessity with what was bound to happen in the next few weeks. Soft blankets and a peaceful quiet, comfortable silence that only made the warmth of the moment stronger.
Your eyes flickered from the book in your hand to your sweet boyfriend sitting opposite of the room in his favorite chair. A colorful pallete and a dirty cup of water sat on the table next to him, his hand moving in thoughtful flicks as his teeth nibbled at his lip in concentration. A few pieces of his blonde hair had fallen into his face, occasionally shaking his head to move it from his view and causing a smile to spread across your lips.
Steve has always painted. A fun little hobby to fill the time. Sometimes it'd just be a drawing, a simple sketch with charcoal. But lately, since meeting Dr.Eskrine late last week he's been specifically painting more and more. The colors on his pallete have even become brighter and move varied, but he never showed you the pictures. You assumed they were just personal little doodles, nothing big and extravagant, maybe something that would be somehow embarrassing for him.
However, you did know why he had been painting more. Steve had been recruited, kind of. He'd be the subject of an experiment called Project Rebirth. Neither of you knew too much about it, but you did know that within the next week or to Steve would be receiving his letter for him to be wisped away.
At first, Steve was excited. He finally had managed to find a way to get what he wanted, a way to serve his country. And you were excited for him as well, how couldn't you be? His blue eyes lit up so bright when he told you, so excited and talking so fast he was practically reminiscent of a puppy. He nearly gave himself an asthma attack with how much energy was coursing through him.
But the reality quickly set in for the both of you. He'd be leaving. Your Stevie, your perfect gentleman of a boyfriend, your number one supporter would have to leave you, and there was a good chance he may not come home. You two cried that night, a whirlwind of emotions laying catastrophy to your bliss, and vowed that every moment between then and him leaving would be the most special time you could imagine.
Some would argue that there wasn't anything special about this; About sitting feet apart, in the most peaceful quiet only slightly disturbed by the sounds of people going home after a long days work outside, doing your own thing. But you couldn't have this with anyone else, this comfort and feeling of home was something you never felt until Steve. Everyone was shocked when the two of you moved in together, but you hadn't wanted to let this feeling slip through your fingers, and you were even more grateful now that you had made the decision to do so.
Without thinking much of it, you sat your book down and stood up, moving to Steve. After pressing a kiss to his forehead you grabbed the dirty cup of water and moved to the kitchen just feet away to refresh it for him.
You felt his gaze follow you, as it always did when you moved about. He tried not to admit it but he was truly shocked as to how he got so lucky to be with you. Someone so caring, driven, and open minded. Someone who's inner beauty matched their appearance, who was definitely way out of his league in his opinion and didn't have a care in the world for how small he was. A girl who was almost too ambitious and too determined for her own good. You inspired him, way more than you knew at this point.
"Whatcha painting, dear?" Your voice cut through his thoughts as you came back with the fresh water, only trying to peak at the pad of paint paper a little.
The flush that covered his skin was far too obvious for him to play off, and he tripped over his words as he talked, "it's uh, nothing - really - I mean it's not nothing but-"
The light laugh that fell from your lips caused him to blush even darker. Steve watched as you leaned down and pressed a chaste kiss to his lips before kneeling beside him. The look you gave him was too pure and sweet and he knew he wouldn't be able to resist whatever you requested of him next.
"Can you please show me some of your paintings, Stevie? You paint so much and I feel like this is a piece of you I don't know much about." The sweetness and curiosity had him cliff diving head first into falling in love with you all over again.
"Uh, s-sure." Steve did well of hiding the one he had been working on, sitting it aside and out of view as he flipped through a few pages of his painting paper and showed you a picture he painted of a garden.
Your breath was practically stolen as your gaze danced across the intricate detail of the picture he was showing you. Variants of almost every shade in the rainbow were whisped across the paper, creating a beautiful scene of blooming flowers and bushes, caged in by a white picket.
"You can paint? Like, really paint?" The statement came as more of a question, almost in disbelief with what you were seeing. You had sworn painting was just a pass-time type of hobbie for Steve, but you were wrong, way wrong. It wasn't a hobbie, it was a talent.
"A little bit, yeah, I guess," he mumbled, bashful and still not use to any type of praise. "I had- I had painted that one night after we had talked about buying a house one day. You said you wanted a little cottage with a white picket fence and a huge garden. I figured, if I couldn't give the real thing to you, I could at least paint you something close to it."
Your heart practically broke and swelled all at once. The sincerity of this man never ceased to baffle you. "Stevie! You call this a little bit?" You exclaimed. "This is beautiful. Can you show me another?"
He smiled, shy but hopeful and nodded. Steve moved down to sit on the floor with you, pulling a few of the papers out to lay across the floor, all different scenes of things you had talked about wanting to do together. A little bakery, a blue cottage, a cabin and lake. Your eyes scanned across every one, seeing every little detail and color, feeling like you were seeing a scene out of a movie, feeling like you could have actually been there.
"Steve, love, these are amazing," you breathed out, voice soft and quiet.
"I painted them for you," he admitted, voice just as hushed. He avoided looking at you, but you couldn't help but look at him after that admittance. "When I found out about getting recruited I starting painting everything we ever wanted to do together so you could hang them up or keep them to remember me, so you wouldn't forget me."
"Forget you?" The little pang of hurt was evident in your voice. "Stevie," you leaned over, cupping his face with your hand and making him look at you. A quiet exchange of sad smiles before you pressed a kiss to his lips, a promise, "I'll never forget you. I love you."
Steve smiled a little more brightly. "I love you too, doll."
"But," you voice had a tease, trying to keep the mood light and happy. It wasn't time for tears, not yet. You wanted as many happy moments with him as possible before he left, "you have to promise not to forget me."
Steve chuckled softly, shaking his head, "I couldn't if I tried."
And little did you know, the painting he set aside was his way of making sure he didn't forget you. That he wouldn't forget the way your hair sat against your skin, or the bridge of your nose, or any freckle and smile line. The warmth that emanated from you or the curve of your lips in a resting smile.
No picture could do any of that, any piece of you justice. So, Steve didn't rely on a picture, instead he just painted his favorite muse. After a moment of hesitation he moved to grab it. It wasn't quite finished, but almost there and done enough to show you.
"I painted those for you, but I'm painting this one for me, to keep with me while I'm away."
Steve sat back down, showing you the all too realistic portrait of you reading a book, in the position you'd taken comfort in over the last week. Your breath had truly caught in your throat this time, times welling as emotions bubble in you. "See, doll, I can't forget something I've painted."

This is easily one of my favorite fics I’ve written!!!
Love in times of war
Pairing: 40s!Steve Rogers x 40s!Reader
word count: 16.1k
Summary: you meet Steve Rogers while working with Dr. Erskine.
warnings: Steve being adorable, preserum Steve, angst, fluff, badly written smut, talks of blood, needles, gunshots, Bucky being a little shit, Peggy is a bitch (if you like Peggy this is not the blog for you)
A/N: this was a wild ride. Was it necessary to write 16k not at all but I had so much fun writing it. I used some scenes from Captain America the first avenger but I don’t own the characters or marvel. Please let me know what you think and as always I appreciate the comments, likes and reblogs.

Excitement was thick in the air, the expo was in full swing and men were lining up at the recruitment center in order to serve their country. You had almost been out the door after a long day of work when you were called back. It was rare that Dr. Erskine would ask you to come in if you were done for the night but the moment you stepped into his office you knew. His eyes were bright and hopeful.
“You found him.” you exclaimed once the door was shut. Leaning back against the door you looked at the older man, excited at the possibility.
“Perhaps I have. I need you now more than ever.”
“Of course, anything you need.”
“Good.” He says as he hands you a file.
“Steven Grant Rogers.” you murmur as your eyes scan the page. “Hmm, he has a long list of health issues Doc.” You look back up at him to find Erskine studying your reaction. “But you didn’t choose him because of that did you?”
“You are correct. This world needs more than good soldiers Y/N.”
“It needs good men. He seems to fit the bill, he’s tried to sign up multiple times to fight for his country. Seems like Mr. Rogers only wants to do what's right.”
“You get it and that is why I need you by my side. Go home and pack your things. We have a lot to prepare for in the coming weeks.”
***************************************************************
The next morning you had been one of the first people into Erskine’s lab. The good doctor had left you with a list of things to do the night before so you began at the top of the list. By the time you had organized the equipment he needed and redid Steve’s chart it was time to start with the regular work day.
You made your way to the exam room that had been set up and knocked on the door. When you heard the faint come in you opened the door to find Steve unbuttoning his shirt. His eyes were the prettiest blue you had ever seen but they were filled with embarrassment at his state of undress. If that wasn’t enough, the hint of pink that dusted his cheeks made him even cuter.
“Hi Mr. Rogers my name is Y/N and I’m going to be assisting Dr. Erskine. He needs me to take your vitals and some blood samples too. Is it ok if I come in now?”
“Yes, it’s alright.”
You open the door wider and close it behind you, offering him a smile before making your way to the small cabinet area in the room. Steve’s chart sits on the counter while you gather the things you’ll need to take his vitals.
“You don’t have to be nervous. Everything will turn out alright.” You say over your shoulder when you notice him fidgeting.
“What if Dr. Erskine chose the wrong person for this?”
You placed everything you needed on the small cart that was nestled in the corner of the room and dragged it closer as you thought about how to answer the question.
“I’ve been working with him for almost a year now and this is the first time he’s selected anyone.”
“So no pressure.”
You smile as you put the cuff on his arm to take his blood pressure.
“I know his story but that is for him to tell you. I can say that for the first time in a long time he feels hopeful and that is something you gave him. Which means that you’re the only choice for this project.”
After taking his pressure you make a note on his chart. As you pull on the stethoscope that was hanging around your neck to listen to his heart and then his lungs you feel his eyes on you. Steve is taking in your beauty and he’s sure you heard how his breath hitches when you move closer. But he’s almost in a trance by the beautiful color of your eyes, a color he’ll have to remember so that he can try and recreate it later. You move away from him before grabbing what you need to take blood samples and labeling them.
“How can you be so sure of that?” He asked in a hush tone.
“You’re humble for starters. With anyone else they would have puffed out their chest, proud that they’re the only one that fit the bill but you still question it. From what I read in your file you find yourself in fights quite a bit?”
“I don’t like bullies.”
“Exactly, you’re willing to fight for what’s right. You stand up against those that abuse their power and you don’t do it for the glory or anything. You know what it means to be powerless and it’s safe to say you’re compassionate. I think that’s more important than just passing all these tests. And like I said I know Erskine’s story, one you will understand with time.” you offer Steve a small smile which he returns. Before he’s able to reply another knock echoes into the small room before the door opens.
“There you are Y/N, thank you for getting the lab ready.”
“You’re welcome doc. I’m done with his vitals and blood samples.”
“Good, take them back to my lab. I have some other things to go over with Steve.” Dr. Erskine pats your shoulder.
“See you later Steve and remember what I said.” You send a wink his way as you walk out of the room. Dr. Erskine watched as you walked out and the blush that appeared on Steve’s cheeks with a smirk.
“If you hurt her I will make you disappear.”
“What- no I would never… She wouldn’t even like someone like me.”
“You don’t know that. Y/N is one of the few people I trust. She is kind, smart and selfless and are you going to deny that she is beautiful? She wants what we do, for this world to be better and the war to be over. I think she’s the only one that can choose who she likes.”

A few weeks have passed since you first met Steve. Now you had traveled to New Jersey to the base that was being used for basic training. They had given you a small room to set up as a makeshift office so that you could take more blood samples from Steve and some other recruits that Colonel Phillips had picked himself.
“Private Hodge.” You called out from the doorway.
“Hello sugar.” Hodge said as he walked in. You saw him look you up and down with a smirk on his lips.
“Please have a seat.”
“You like being bossy, sugar? I could get used to that.” he winks as he takes a seat on the exam table.
“Private Hodge my name isn’t sugar it’s Y/N so I would appreciate it if you would stop calling me that.”
“Oh come on I’m just teasing. I’m sure a pretty little thing like you is used to the attention.”
“I’d really prefer it if you stopped talking now. I need to take your blood pressure.”
You went down the mental list you had created, making sure to gather all of the information Dr. Erskine required. Although physically Hodge was in the running to be the first test subject, the fact that he was making you uncomfortable with not only his comments but he wouldn’t take his eyes off you was bothersome. Dr. Erskine had told you early on that he was looking for someone that was more than physically capable, he needed to find someone that was good and would stand up for what was right. The more time you worked with the doctor the more it made sense as to why Steve was the only choice.
“You’re all done, you can leave.” You informed him as you rushed to the door and opened it.
“Don’t I get a reward for being such a good patient?” Hodge had walked up to you and put a hand on your waist with the purpose of pulling you closer.
“Let me go.”
“Just a little sugar, sugar.”
Hodge pulled you closer forcing you to place your hands on his chest to try to push him away. When that didn’t work you stomped on his boot, the heel of your shoe digging into the top of his foot causing him to take a few steps back.
“You little-”
“Back off.” Steve appeared by the door and quickly stood in front of you to keep Hodge away.
“What are you going to do about it?”
Hodge was much taller and muscular then Steve. He stocked over to the blond, using his height to try and intimidate the shorter man but it didn’t work.
“No fighting allowed. If you do, you're disqualified.”
Hodge backed away from Steve with a huff and some curses under his breath. He looked over at you with a scowl on his face before heading down the hallway. You looked down before looking at Steve and moving into the room to let him in.
“Thank you, for that.” you said in a hushed voice. His hand found yours and he tugged so that you would turn towards him.
“Did he hurt you?”
“No, you got here just in time.”
“If he tries anything else you tell me, I don’t care about being disqualified.”
You smile at him before squeezing his hand lightly.
“And you doubt why you are the perfect person for this.” you motioned toward the exam table. “Let me get some items together and then we can start.”
The room sat in comfortable silence as you moved around the exam table. You could feel Steve’s eyes on you and when you looked over your shoulders your eyes would meet causing his cheeks to redden with the embarrassment of being caught. It was cute to say the least and since the first meeting you hadn’t really been able to stop thinking about him. Still in the moment you pushed your thoughts of what dating Steve would be like and focused on the task at hand. Unfortunately everything was completed quickly and there was no reason for him to stay and talk.
“Were you done for the night then?” Steve cut the silence.
“Yeah, I just need to put these things away.”
“Are you staying on base? I could walk you to your room if you’d like.”
“I would like that, thank you.” You looked up from his chart and smiled. “Let me just finish this up.”
He gave you a quick nod and walked out to wait for you in the hallway. A few minutes later you walked out, locking the door before turning to the blond that was leaning against the wall.
“Ready?” you nod at him and he starts walking with you down the long corridor.
“So what do you do for fun?”
“Oh you know the usual, get in fights in the alley, try to join the army, but mostly I like drawing and painting too.”
“So you’re an artist?”
“Something like that. How about you, what does the world’s best nurse do for fun?”
“Well I love finding good hearted men that fight bullies in alleys and then run tests on him to make sure he qualifies for super secret government experiments. Also I have a knack for befriending older scientists with accents.” You smile at Steve. “I do enjoy a good book too.”
“So what made you want to be a nurse?” Steve asked as you walked toward your room.
“My parents both worked and I had a younger brother that was sick a lot. I used to take care of him most of the time. What I really wanted to do was work in research to find a cure for one or some of his illnesses. We just didn’t have the money for school and my dad didn’t think a woman should be worrying about things like that anyways. Nursing was the next best thing and I would take what I could get. Erskine has given me a once in a lifetime opportunity by letting me work alongside him.”
“I think you’d be great at it. My ma was a nurse, I think if she had the chance she would have been a doctor.”
“What did you do before joining the army?”
“I just found work where I could get it. Not many people were willing to hire someone like me.”
You frowned slightly. The army you could understand, they needed healthy men to fill the ranks but that didn’t mean Steve wasn’t able to work.
“It’s not a big deal. I’m here now and that’s all that matters.”
“And you’ll go on to do great things, don't forget that.” You replied as you stopped in front of the room you had been given for your stay. Leaning forward you kiss Steve on the cheek causing him to once again turn a bright red. “Thank you for walking me over.”
“S’no problem. Goodnight.” He said as you walked in a grin broke out on his face as he touched the cheek you had kissed.
********************************************
The next morning had gone how every morning went while working with Erskine. Going over lab results and him teaching you a few things along the way. You cared for the older man as if he were a father and with a few little words he let you know you were like the daughter he never had. He always gave you a chance to review what he did and let you tell him your findings while correcting any mistakes you made.
As the day went on you met with Colonel Phillips out on the field. He was arguing with Dr. Erskine about who should be chosen as the first test subject. Talking about how Hodge was the best choice while putting Steve down, something you didn’t like one bit.
“Look at that, he’s making me cry.” He states as you three stop by a truck and watch the recruits doing jumping jacks, Steve doing his best to keep up.
“I am looking for qualities beyond the physical.” Erskine stated.
Phillips argued how long it took to get this project set up and how he had to basically beg some senator. You couldn’t be bothered to listen to him whining, your focus was on Steve and silently cheering him on. It’s also when you noticed a brunette who also had her eyes on Steve. She had a uniform on and you remembered that Erskine had told you about some agent from England that was also involved, maybe it was her. But you are brought back to the conversation at hand.
“He’s a bully.”
“You don’t win wars with niceness, doctor.” He moves around to the back of the truck and picks up a grenade. “You win wars with guts.” Phillip says as he pulls the pin and tosses the explosive toward the group of men.
“Grenade!”
“Move, move, move.” Hodges yells out. The men panic and run to hide behind whatever they can find. Steve however dives to cover the grenade with his body, shielding as many people as he can from the explosion.
“Get away! Get back.” he tosses the grenade away from himself. Hodge and the rest of the recruits get up again once they don’t hear it going off. A confused Steve starts looking around to see what’s going on.
“It’s a dummy grenade.” someone says.
“Is this a test?” Steve asks, first looking at the brunette before turning and finding you. A smile on your lips when your eyes meet, you give him a thumbs up.
“He’s still skinny.” you hear Phillips say. But it doesn’t matter as your attention changes from Steve to Erksine who is also smiling.
“Let’s go get everything ready, we have our candidate.” He tells you softly.
****************************
The day everyone had been waiting for finally arrived. The lab was already full, some government officials were taking their seats in the viewing room while Howard Stark was reviewing the capsule Steve would have to get into. You on the other hand were getting the serum ready as well as some other things for Dr. Erskine.
“Ready to make some history?” Howard asked as he rounded the capsule.
“Absolutely, are you?”
“Don’t tell anyone but I am a bit terrified.”
“Don’t worry Mr. Stark.”
“Please call me Howard.”
“Well don’t worry Howard, this isn’t your flying car.” you tease.
He points at you, “I’ll remember that.” he says before smiling back.
Before you could reply the double doors opened revealing Steve in his uniform and the agent from the base, Peggy Carter. Erskine walked up to them and pointed at the viewing room, Peggy left the men and headed up the stairs. Next he turned to find you and waved you over.
“Will you get him ready?” He asked once you joined them. You nod and he leaves.
“How are you feeling?” you asked Steve, who honestly looked a little terrified.
“I’m good. How are you?”
“Excited.” you beamed as you motioned for him to follow you. Once you were on the platform you turned back to him. “You’ll have to take your shirt off.”
“Oh, ok.” He unbuttons his shirt and hands it to you before removing his undershirt.
“This is Howard Stark, he’ll get you settled in.”
“Come over this way.” Howard gets Steve strapped on the table and makes sure Steve is comfortable. After getting the ok from Steve he turns to make some final checks on the capsule.
“How are your levels Mr. Stark?”
“Levels are at 100%. We may dim half the lights in brooklyn, but we are ready… as we’ll ever be.”
Erskine reassures Steve one last time before turning to the crowd watching above and giving some kind of speech. You moved to take the serum from the case they were in and place them in their in the machine Steve was in. Once you were done Steve grabbed your hand, sending a worried look your way.
“Everything will be fine. You’re the right choice Steve.” you squeeze his hand and smile at him before stepping away to grab a syringe. With a cotton swab and alcohol you clean a spot in his arm. “You’ll just feel a pinch.” you say before giving him the shot.
“Oh, that wasn’t so bad.”
“That was penicillin.” Erskine informs him, making you giggle. “Serum infusion beginning in 5.. 4.. 3.. 2.. 1.” The sound of the tubes draining can be heard and Steve grimaces. “Now Mr. Stark.”
The capsule closes and moves to an upright position, the doctor checks on Steve one more time before Howard begins to turn up the power on it. The anticipation builds slowly and you feel your heart pounding in your chest as you watch. The light from inside gets brighter but Steve starts to scream as Howard announces that power is at 70%.
“Steven!” Erskine shouts as he tries to look into the small window. “Steven!”
From above you can also hear Peggy yell. “Shut it down!’
Erskine moves and starts shouting instructions at Howard. But you’re still stuck in your spot until you hear him say to shut it off.
“No. He can do it.”
“No, don’t. I can do this.”
Both you and Steve yell at the same time. Causing Howard to move back to the dial and keep going. The light gets even brighter as Howard announces 80%, 90% and finally 100%. His circuit board lights up, everything around short circuits. Erskine stands next to you in front of the pod waiting with bated breath as the doors finally open revealing a much taller and muscular Steve. He slumps forward and you and Erskine quickly move forward to catch him.
“How do you feel?” You ask as he stands up, taking a few deep breaths.
“Taller.” you smile up at him while another nurse passes him a t-shirt.
Everyone from the viewing room comes down, all of them talking over each other and exchanging congratulations. Peggy heads toward Steve and begins to talk with him when someone shouts and a gun is fired, taking Erskine down. You rush over and put pressure on the wound but from where it hit you know it’s fatal. Steve is there in an instant as you try to hold back the tears. The older man looks at you and points to your head and then looks at Steve and points to his heart before taking his last breath.
“No no no.” Your bottom lip trembles as you take the older man’s hand in your own.
Steve runs out of the room chasing the man that had killed your friend and mentor. Howard moved towards you to try and move you away from Erskine’s body when an explosion rocked the building filling the room with fire and smoke. Howard pulls you as everyone begins to run out of the lab.
***********************************
There was a huge commotion out in the hallway. Everyone ran around frantically trying to figure out how they were going to deal with the loss of the formula for the serum. No one cared for the life that paid the price, there was no grieving the great man that was Abraham Erskine. Even with his flaws and mistakes of the past weighing him down he still dreamt of a better future. It was a shame that he wouldn’t be there to watch it happen.
You sat in his office, where Howard led you to as he tried to talk with the colonel and the other government officials that were demanding he replicate the formula immediately. The noise grew louder for a moment before it was muffled once again behind the closed door. Your once white nurses uniform was now stained with blood, ash and tears while your hair fell out of the updo you had. The ringing in your ears gradually stopped the longer you sat there. None of it mattered because you had witnessed the worst thing imaginable, the loss of a friend at the hands of someone else. Too lost in thought you missed the footsteps getting closer to you, only when Steve crouched down in front of you did you realize you weren’t alone anymore. He was soaking wet and the white t-shirt he wore clung to his now muscular frame. One of his hands came up to your face gingerly and wiped away the tears that still fell while the other grabbed one of yours that was on your lap.
“I’m so sorry Y/N.” He said, his voice soft and comforting.
“Did you get him?”
“I did but he didn’t make it.”
You nodded but you barely looked at him, instead you stood and began to organize the files on Erskine’s desk. He had so much research and he’d let you go over all of it. He even gave you your own projects to work on so that you could gain the experience necessary for the field. Now being in his office those memories washed over you causing the ache in your chest to expand. It was all consuming and you didn’t know how to handle it. Sure you’ve lost people you cared about but they passed from natural causes. This was different, he had supported you more than your own father and now it was over. You tried to put your focus on the papers that were everywhere and chalkboards filled with his ideas and formulas and you began to get angry.
“Why does he have to be so messy?” You say as you slam a file down. “I was here yesterday and organized all of this, couldn’t he keep things in order for one damn day.” You complained as you sniffled. Steve stood there watching you for a moment before reaching out and stopping your movements.
He turned you around and pulled you into his chest, letting you cry as much as you wanted. In this moment Steve wished more than anything that he could turn back time and stop what happened. Once you calmed down enough the recently turned super soldier pulled back to look down at you. He reaches up to wipe away the tears.
“We’ll find the others that were involved and we’ll make them pay, I promise”.
“I’m sorry for… this.” You gestured at yourself vaguely.
“No need to be sorry sweetheart.” He gave you a chaste kiss on the forehead. Something he’s wanted to do since that night at the base. You look up at him with red rimmed eyes and give him a sad smile. The door opens and in walks Colonel Phillips and at least a dozen men. They begin to pack all of Erskine’s things.
“Hey, you can’t take that.” You argue as you pull some files away from one of them.
“Of course he can, this is government property. I’m sorry Miss but you’ll have to leave you no longer have any business being here, and you.” He points at Steve. “We have a special mission for you.” With that he walks out leaving you both frozen in place as the men work around both of you.
“Give them hell.” You tell him.
“I intend to.”
You gave Steve a final hug and a request to keep in touch before you watched him walk out of the door. He looked at you one final time before he disappeared. It would be months before you would see him again.
***********************************
Colonel Phillips screwed you over big time, he made sure you wouldn’t be able to sign up with the nurse corp. He stated that since you worked with Erskine it made you a target if anyone found out so really he was saving your life. Without much to do in New York you had decided to visit your aunt in Chicago to try and get away for a little bit. It ended up being a wasted trip as your aunt and new husband were headed to California a few days after you arrived but still they offered you to stay and house sit for them.
While walking down the city streets one day you saw a flier with a very familiar looking man on it. It had your blood boiling at the thought that this was Steve’s mission. Phillips really was an idiot in your opinion, you ripped the flier from the wall and headed in the direction of this supposed show. Although you were angry that Erskine’s work was being wasted you couldn’t help but be a little relieved that Steve was safe. It’s not that you had spent so much time together but you adored him. The few times you did spend together he was a gentleman and kind. You still regret not inviting him into your room that night at the base but it was too late for that now. The little hopes you had to see him were dashed by the time you got there it was over. You had tried to ask where the performers were staying but no one would give you an answer so feeling defeated you headed out of the theater. You took off in the direction of your aunt’s home, your eyes still on the flier when you ran into someone.
“I’m sorry.” You both said at the same time.
“Steve?” You say when you look up. Your eyes were wide and your mouth agape.
“Y/N? What are you doing here?” He asked as he wrapped you in a hug which you returned.
“I came to see you but I missed the show.”
“You came to Chicago to see me?” He looked down at you, it was still fascinating to you how much the serum had changed him physically. That was something else you are angry about, Phillips didn’t give you a chance to take notes after the serum had been administered to have information before and after.
“No, I came to Chicago to see an aunt, I saw the flier and thought it was you so I wanted to see it for myself.”
He nodded as he scratched the back of his neck, you saw the embarrassment in his face but you needed to know what happened.
“Steve, why are you doing this?”
He sighed as he looked around and then at you. Steve felt like a failure every time he had to get up on that stage. He thought of Erskine and you and all of the work you had done. Mostly he thought about how much you believed in him and how he had let you down.
“Would you like to get some coffee or something and we can talk?”
“Yeah.”
He offered you his arm before leading you down the block. If the world wasn’t in the middle of a war and you didn’t feel at least slightly lost you would say that this was nice. Being on Steve’s arm felt natural and in all honesty you had missed him.
Once you found a diner a few blocks down from the theater you took a booth toward the back. The waitress came by and took your drink orders and left.
“So…” you said as you looked at him. You couldn’t help yourself and you studied his face, taking mental notes of the changes in his appearance. His hair, although combed up and back so that it was out of his face, seemed healthier and his cheeks held a healthy rosy tint along with his eyes which sparkled brighter.
“So.” He looked at you bracing himself for the disappointment he was sure to see on your face. “After that day I left with Phillips thinking he would send me overseas but he said he needed an army of super soldiers not just one man. He thought it would be more useful if I did the show to sell war bonds. It’s honestly embarrassing, I could be doing so much more if he would just let me go over there. I feel I’m back at square one except I don’t have asthma anymore.”
“He basically blacklisted me from the nurse corp. said that by helping Erskine I put a target on my back and if they found out and I was taken, he wouldn't bother to send anyone to get me.”
The waitress set Steve’s coffee down and your milkshake before leaving your table again.
“It seems he doesn’t really like either of us.”
“I’m going to reach out again, someone will listen. I didn’t volunteer for this to be stuck fake punching Hitler.”
You laughed at the image and then he started laughing too. When you quieted down you sighed and looked out the window.
“What are you thinking about?”
“How upset Erskine would be if he knew. How much I want to make those bastards pay and how much I missed you.”
Steve reached out and gently grabbed your hand, his thumb moving back and forth over your knuckles. “I’ve thought about you every single day.” He gives you a coy smile. “Come on, let’s enjoy the city while we can.”
Steve stood up and dropped a couple of bills before offering you his hand, which you took happily.
You walk around the city, sometimes in silence and taking it all in but mostly getting to know each other. He tells you more about his childhood and his best friend Bucky. You tell him more about your younger brother and your own best friend. But as it gets darker you know you have to part and the thought of not seeing him again saddens you. Before you realize it you’re standing on the front porch of your aunt’s house, the key in your hand while Steve stands behind you waiting for you to open the door and go in. Neither of you really want this night to end but he’s leaving for another city in the morning and you’ll have to start packing to return back home.
The soft click of the lock echoes in the silence between you and you push the door open before turning to look at Steve. He gave you a half smile, his eyes never leaving yours.
“So.” You both said at the same time making you both smile.
“I guess this is it.” He said.
“I guess so.”
Steve walked closer and placed a hand on your waist while the other cupped your cheek. Your own rested against his chest as you looked up at him.
“I’d really like to kiss you.”
“I’d really like it if you did.”
Steve moved until his lips were barely touching, still giving you the chance to back away. Instead you closed the small distance as your lips crashed against his. They were soft as they moved against yours, a sweet dance that turned passionate. You felt Steve’s hand move from your cheek to your neck so that he could deepen the kiss. His tongue explored your mouth as you moaned. But all too quickly he pulled back and cleared his throat. There was a blush creeping up on his cheeks and you smiled at him.
“Would you like a drink?”
“I should head back, we leave early.” His hands in his pocket.
“Of course.” You say. “Take care of yourself Steve.”
“You too. Maybe I can come find you back in New York once this is all over?”
“I’d like that.” You smile at him again. “Bye Steve.” You say before walking into the house and closing the door.
“Goodbye sweetheart.” He said to himself when he saw the light turn on.
You leaned against the door and wished he’d come in. The thought of him leaving again was going to hurt so much more the second time around. Turning back around you opened the door hoping that he wasn’t too far. Instead you find him walking up toward the porch. Steve stops in front of the steps and looks up at you. Your body, perfectly silhouetted against the light in of the living room. Slowly you walked out and down two of the three steps and found yourself eye level with Steve.
“Is that drink still on the table?”
“For you it is.” You grabbed his hand and led him inside.
Once the door was closed Steve pulled you close and turned you around to push you against the door. His lips crashed into yours, it was messy and hurried and perfect. Your arms found their way around his broad shoulders. Steve left a myriad of kisses on your cheek and jaw and onto your neck, he nipped and kissed his way down to the collar of your dress. You grabbed his face and pulled him in for another kiss, this one slow but just as needy. Once you pulled back you patted Steve on the chest twice so that he would move back.
“We should maybe move away from the living room.” You smiled as you grabbed his hand and pulled him toward your room.
Steve stands in the doorway, wanting to get closer to you again but still giving you a chance to stop. But you don’t want to stop, instead your hands reach for the belt that sits at your waist, made of the same fabric as your dress, and you pull on it. Then you start to undo the first button, your hands moving slowly as you keep your eyes on Steve. Arching one eyebrow at him.
“Are you going to stand there all night?”
Your question seemed to have pulled him back into the moment as he closed the gap between the both of you. His hands fall to your waist before pulling you closer.
“Are you sure?”
“You’re the only thing I’m sure about Steve.”
His lips are on yours in a flash and he swallows the small gasp you let out in surprise. Steve’s hands move from your waist to the front of your dress to undo a few more buttons before he pushes it off your shoulders. Once the dress hits the floor you step out of it, Steve’s hands are on your hips.
“You’re so beautiful.” He whispers as he picks you up, walks over to the bed and sets you down. Steve’s eyes drag from top to bottom making your cheeks heat up and you realize how exposed you are to him at the moment.
You push the leather jacket he’s wearing off his shoulders before starting to unbutton his shirt. Once he’s shirtless Steve hovers over you, slightly unsure of what to do next. The feel of your hands on his bare skin makes him shudder. He would never admit at how many times he fantasized of this exact moment, or if you would ever even look at him as more than some science experiment. Steve could question your affection as much as he wanted but he knew you cared way before he ever received the serum. It was always there in the way you looked at him and the way you believed in him unconditionally. No one other than his ma and Bucky looked past the physical limitations but you did. Even now when your lips found their way to his jaw and your hands explored his body you showed him how much you wanted him. So he moved to make sure you felt how much you mean to him.
Steve’s touch was gentle but lit your skin aflame as he moved from your waist to your back to undo your bra. Your lips met his, moving in sync as your tongues fight for dominance. The feel of his hands on your breasts and the way his mouth moved down to explore your exposed chest. Steve kept his lust blown eyes on your face as his tongue swirled around your nipple. A small gasp escapes you as your hips buck against him. Your breath hitches as you feel Steve move down leaving kisses in his wake, for a moment he stops on the band of your panties.
Those piercing blue eyes meet yours, his hands on your hips as he asks, “Can I taste you?” He hoped you didn’t hear the nervousness he felt, this was all new to him. Anything he knew was from when Bucky talked about it he just hoped that he remembered enough to make you feel good.
“Yes.” The thought of him between your legs alone was enough to make you wet but this would be so much better. Steve slowly pulls down your panties and tosses them to the side. He leaves a trail of kisses up your calves then your thighs until he’s settled comfortably between them. He didn’t hesitate to swipe his tongue through your folds, an action that had him groaning and you bucking your hips. Steve took his time, finding what made your breath hitch just from him using his mouth so that he could do it over and over again. His tongue flicks against your clit causing you to mewl. Your hands find their way to his hair, pulling it as you begin to feel your orgasm build.
“Steve,” You say as you feel him carefully slide a finger into your heat. Slowly he builds his pace before adding a second finger. The moan that leaves your lips when he curls his fingers is like music to his ears, and he wants to hear more. The feeling of you clenching around his fingers urges him to keep going. Steve works tongue over your clit before sealing his lips around the bundle of nerves. Your legs tremble and that coil in your belly tightens until it snaps. “I’m gonna-” you cut yourself off with a moan, your head thrown back and your eyes closed as your orgasm washes over you.
You feel Steve move some hair out of your face and you smile as you open your eyes.
“Was that ok?”
You nod before pulling him down for a kiss and tasting yourself on his lips. Your hands travel down his body until you reach his trousers where you feel his hardened length. You’ve never been with a man before but you’re a nurse so that body part isn’t as foreign for you as it is for most women and one thing you know is that he’s big. But you don’t waste your time thinking about if he’ll fit, your fingers working quickly to undo the button but before you get to the zipper he stops you.
“We don’t have to do anything else if you don’t want to.”
You smile up at him, of course he doesn’t want to make you uncomfortable. “Of course I want to be with you Steve, I want everything with you.”
He smiles down at you, his eyes bright and full of adoration and lust and his kiss swollen lips meet yours again as he lets go of your hand. The zipper is pulled down and you push down his pants before Steve kicks them off. The blonde begins to settle between your legs again before he pulls back and turns around asking for you to give him a second. You’re about to ask him if he’s ok before he bends down to grab his pants, pulling something out of his pocket. He holds it between two fingers, a condom. You sit up and move towards him, your chest pressed against his back as you kneel behind him you look over his shoulder. Grabbing it you rip open the condom, Steve turns his head to look at you confused at what you’re doing before he feels your hand on his cock. The tip already has a bead of precum as you move your thumb over it before you move up and down slowly. His breath gets caught in his throat as you move slightly faster. He wraps his hand around your wrist.
“Sweetheart, I don’t think I’ll last if you keep going.” He whispers before letting your wrist go. You kiss his cheek before moving to put the condom on and then moving back to the bed letting him settle back down between your spread legs. “Are you sure?” He asks one more time. His breath fanning across your lips as he hovers over you.
“Yes Steve, I’m sure. Please, I need to feel you.”
You share a tender kiss as Steve lines himself up with your entrance and pushes in slowly. Once he bottoms out he rests his forehead against yours as he gives you time to adjust to his size. You feel so full with him even though there’s a little bit of pain. But you manage as you stare into those cerulean eyes that had burned themselves into your memory.
“Did you mean it?”
“What?” You ask as you hold on to his biceps.
“That you want everything with me. Because I’ll give you everything and anything you ask for.”
“I did, I want you.”
His lips capture yours again as he begins to move languidly. The pain quickly morphed into pleasure the more you relaxed . Your back arches into him before you start to move against him. Steve picks up the pace as the pretty little sounds you make spur him on. He hides his face in the crook of your neck while his hands find yours, fingers intertwined above your head.
“So good Steve.” You moan as you throw your head back in pleasure. You’re on the edge again and Steve groans when you clench around him.
Steve never thought he’d get a chance to be this intimate with a woman but now he’s glad it’s you. He’ll memorize the sounds you make, the blissed out look on your face, the way you chant his name like a prayer and the way you hold him close. Remembering how you came undone with his mouth on your clit, one of his hands snakes between both your bodies as he begins to circle where you want him most. The added stimulation has you falling off the edge with his name on your lips and your eyes closed.
“Fuck you feel so good sweetheart.” He mutters as his pace becomes uneven. A few more thrusts has him spilling into the condom.
Giving your hand a squeeze, Steve let’s go before shifting slightly and pulling out slowly.
He peppers your face with kisses before moving to lay down beside you. After a few minutes you sit up and start to move towards the edge of the bed.
“Hey where are you going?” He asks, concerned.
“I’m going to Um- clean up.”
“Don’t, stay here.” He gets up and removes the condom he used. Steve comes back with a hand towel soaked in warm water. He places a kiss on your forehead as the towel disappears under the blanket you were now covering yourself with.
At the sensation of the towel between your legs you hiss and he stops.
“Did I hurt you?”
“No, I’m just a bit sensitive right now.” You move your hand to his and guide him on what to do. He discards the towel in the small laundry basket you have in the corner and gets back into bed holding his arms open for you to snuggle into him.
Neither of you get much sleep, instead you enjoy each other’s company in comfortable silence. Time betrayed you, before you knew it Steve had to leave so that he could head to the next city on the U.S.O tour.
“I wish you didn’t have to go.” You tell him when he gets up and starts getting dressed.
“I wish I didn’t either.” He sits at the edge of the bed with his trousers and shoes on turning to look at you. It was a mistake because Steve finds a little pout and big doe eyes looking at him. “I’ll find you back in New York alright?”
“You promise?” You mentally curse yourself for sounding so insecure but you were in a very vulnerable position at the moment. Steve had been your first and you had been his. Now you wouldn’t be sure how long it would be before you saw him again.
“Of course I promise. I can’t leave my best girl waiting.”
He pulls a small smile from you with that. Steve leans in to steal a quick kiss and then proceeds to put on his shoes and his shirt followed by his jacket.
“Promise me you’ll be careful on your way back home.”
“I will.” You had grabbed your robe and tied it around your waist so that you could walk Steve out.
His hands sit on your hips as he looks at you fondly.
“I’ll see you soon, I swear.”
“I know.” You stand on your toes to reach his lips, kissing him passionately before pulling away from both the kiss and him. Already missing his warmth you unlock the door and open it for him. Steve leaves a chaste kiss on your forehead before stepping out onto the porch.
“I’ll see you soon sweetheart.”
“Take care of yourself.” You wave him off and watch him disappear before closing the door. Little did you know you would see him sooner than you would think.
****************************
Even with the limited times you’ve been on a plane you could definitely say this was the worst flight of your life. The turbulence was awful and you were sure that your grip on the armrests would break them if you had any real strength. But when Howard found you at the hospital you worked at and offered you a job that would take you overseas you jumped at the chance. Now here you sat getting ready to land in the worst plane ever made just so that you could help in the war efforts.
“How was the trip?” You’re greeted by a smiling Howard once you were able to get out of the plane.
“I’m never getting on one of your planes again Howard.” you glared at him before smiling.
“Oh come on it couldn’t have been so bad if you’re standing here.”
He moved around and grabbed your suitcase as some of the other cargo was pulled out of the plane.
“It really was. But I’m here in one piece and that’s all that matters. Now are you going to tell me what I’m meant to be doing? I know Colonel Phillips couldn’t have agreed to have me here.”
“He doesn’t really know, but that doesn’t matter because you are here as my assistant.” He offers you his arm considering the ground was uneven before leading you into the building. Howard dropped off your suitcase in his office before leading you into the main room of the building. The tension in the room was palpable as military personnel worked with urgency setting up maps and rearranging desks. Orders were being barked at the other end of the room by an all too familiar voice. There was a group of men huddled over one particular map which is where Howard was walking before he stopped. You looked at him to find him scanning the room, he stopped a pretty blond and asked for the captain. She directed him toward a corner of the room that had some shelves filled with boxes and documents.
“This way.” Howard said with childlike glee. It was slightly contagious and you found yourself smiling at whatever it was you were being led to. A smile that slipped when you saw Steve walking from behind one of the shelves in his uniform, but that’s not what upset you, it was the red lipstick on his lips and the woman that walked out beside him. You made eye contact with Peggy first, a smirk on her face as her hand found Steve’s. He hadn’t seen you yet, instead he was wiping away the lipstick and when he felt Peggy grab his hand he pulled away.
“What was that for?” He questioned her but he didn’t wait for an answer as he looked up at her and followed her line of sight, to find you standing next to Howard. He cursed under his breath when he saw the way your eyes shone with unshed tears. Howard whispered something in your ear and you turned to walk away. “Y/N?” Steve moved to follow you to explain what happened but he was stopped by the man that brought you here.
“Give her a minute.”
“What is she even doing here Stark?”
“I need an assistant, the Commandos need a nurse and this division needs someone that can figure out what Hydra is doing. She was the person closest to Erskine and his research. If anyone can figure out what they’re doing it’s her.”
“If she gets hurt because of you I’ll end you.”
“If you must.”
Steve shakes his head as he walks past Howard to try and find you.
“My office, Rogers.” Howard says over his shoulder before he turns back to look at the Brunette across from him. A scowl on her face when their eyes meet. “What the hell was that Carter?”
“None of your business.”
“You know how much she means to him and that I was bringing her into this. Did you do that just because he refused your advances?”
Peggy squared her shoulders and she started to walk away. “Who cares that she was there when he was small and weak, he isn’t anymore. He doesn’t realize that he can do so much better.”
Howard shakes his head before moving to his lab and where he told you to meet him at. He knew Steve would look for you so he told him to go to his private office to at least give you a few extra minutes. When he walked through the double doors he found you looking over some of Erskine’s documents, the ones that had been taken the day he was murdered. The saddened expression on your face warns him to give you some time alone, not only because of what you saw involving Steve and Peggy but because of what you were going over currently. It was like holding onto the last piece of the man that had given you a chance, one you thought had died with him that day, but here you are and you’re going to make it count.
You saw Steve out of the corner of your eye cautiously approach the desk you were sitting at. He cleared his throat in order to get your attention but you ignored him. It hurt to have missed him so much only to see him with someone else. Whatever excuse he had ready could wait, you weren’t here for romance, you were here to help end a war. It seemed however that Steve didn’t get the memo as he hovered beside you with his hands behind his back. You kept stealing glances at him and your resolve was slowly crumbling as you saw how handsome he looked in his uniform and how upset he looked at the fact that you were ignoring him.
Steve had enough of being ignored so he crouched down and swiveled your chair around so you had no choice but to look at him. Your eyes met his for a moment before you looked away, trying not to imagine him and Peggy kissing.
“Sweetheart,”
“Don’t call me that.” you huff.
“What else am I supposed to call my best girl?”
“Am I?” you fidget with a piece of thread that had been pulled from your shirt to try and keep your hands busy.
“Of course you are. Peggy just grabbed me and the moment she kissed me I pulled away.” His large hands envelope yours as he tilts his head to get a better look at you. “You gotta believe me Sweetheart. There’s no one I wanna kiss except you.”
“I guess, I could think about forgiving you.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah, but only because I missed you.” His eyes sparkle even against the ill lit room when you look back at him. Leaning forward your lips grace his before you ask, “It didn’t mean anything right?”
“Absolutely not.” His lips capture yours, reminding you of the softness of not only his lips but of the man that’s before you. Steve could be rough if he wanted to but instead he was gentle and sweet and this kiss was proof. He smirked when you pulled back, trying to catch your breath. Now his lips were stained with your own lipstick and his hands remained on yours, neither of you aware of the woman that watched it unfold.
****************************************************
“What about this one?” Steve grabbed a circular shield discarded by Howard as he was showing Steve the design for his Captain America uniform. He looked at you and held it in front of him and asked, “What do you think?”
“Let’s see.” Peggy, who had been walking by stopped, grabbed a gun that was on the table. To your horror she pointed the gun at Steve and fired it three times, all three bullets hitting the shield and then the floor. “Seems like it works.”
“What the hell is wrong with you?” You fumed behind her, she only shrugged in your direction.
“I was only testing the quality of the shield.”
“You don’t do that while someone is holding it.”
“He’ll live.” she scoffs and walks away.
Steve handed the shield to Howard confirming that it was the one he wanted to use. Making his way over to you, Steve grabs your chin so that you can see that he’s ok.
“Hey, I’m fine. Really.”
“That’s not the point. She’s been nothing but a bitch since I got here. And now she’s being reckless.” You scowl.
“It’s only for a couple of more days. We’ll be heading out soon enough. Now do you have a few minutes there’s someone I want you to meet.”
“Yeah, lead the way my Captain.”
Steve led you down the main corridor toward what everyone referred to as the war room. It’s where the higher ups meet to make plans on where to go next. He opened the door to let you in first before walking in behind you. You found a group of men sitting around a map, none of them bothered to look up since someone was always coming and going from the room. There was a mixture of laughter and loud conversation happening amongst them.
“Hey fellas, there’s someone I would like you to meet.” The room fell quiet as all eyes fell on you and Steve, but mostly you. “This is Y/N, she’s going to be with us on the field. She’ll be acting as our nurse but also working with Stark to figure out what hydra is trying to do.”
Steve introduces each of the men. Dugan, Jones, Morita, Falsworth and Dernier all were part of the Howling Commandos.
“And this is Sergeant Barnes.” Steve beams at the brunette who has a smirk on his face. “My second in command and my best friend.”
“You’re Bucky?” Your eyes light up.
“I sure am darling. It’s nice to finally meet you in person, thought for a minute this punk was making you up.”
You giggle when you look back at Steve, finding him as red as a tomato due to his friend’s words.
“Well it’s nice to meet you too. I demand you tell me all of Steve’s embarrassing stories.”
“Oh I’ve got plenty.” he gives Steve a shit eating grin. “I like her already.”
Steve grumbles under his breath something about being ganged up on by his girl and his friend before he starts ushering you out of the room.
“Oh before I forget.” you stop and turn around to look at the men. “I’ll need you to come by Howard’s office first thing tomorrow, I would like to complete a check up on all of you so that I can have a baseline of where you are health wise.”
“Yes ma’am.” they reply before waving you off.
**************************************
You’d spent the day in your corner of the lab going over test results for the commandos. They were healthy enough considering they were in the middle of a war and about to head into dangerous missions. But right now you were looking for one person in particular. After searching the base you finally head outside to find Bucky lying down and hiding behind some bushes.
“What are you doing?” He jumps at the sound of your voice.
“You shouldn’t go scaring someone that’s holding a gun darling.” He said as he rolled on to his side. At the look of concern on your face he sits up. “What’s wrong?”
“I need to take your blood again.”
“Is something wrong? Am I sick? I don’t feel sick.”
“No nothing like that but I’d rather double check with a newer sample before I say anything.”
“Alright well let’s go I guess.”
He stands up, grabbing his gun and starts to follow you.
“So what were you doing?”
“Target practice. Just trying to stay sharp, you know.”
You hum in understanding. Stopping once in a while to let other people walk by the large field.
“Steve’s crazy about you, ya know.” Bucky says after a beat of silence. “I don’t think I’ve seen him this happy before.”
“I’m crazy about him too.” Warmth creeps up to your cheeks at the thought of Steve.
“Good, just please don’t hurt him. He’s a good man and an even better friend. Also he’s talked my ear off because he’s so smitten by you. I really wouldn’t want to deal with a heartbroken Steve.”
You laugh just as you spot Steve in the distance, walking toward both of you. “I don’t plan on hurting him one bit.” You say before the blond stops in front of you.
“Is everything ok?” He asks with his hands on his hips.
“Yeah I’m just going to rerun some tests on Bucky. I’ll meet you at the lab.” You tell Bucky before stealing a kiss from Steve.
He watches you leave with a dusting of pink on his cheek.
“Jesus, could you at least not make it so obvious you’re ogling her.”
“I’m not. Just making sure she gets in the building safely.”
“Yeah sure. Nothing to do with imagining all the dirty things you’d -“ Steve’s hand clamps over Bucky’s mouth to shut him up.
“Don’t talk about my girl like that jerk.”
“Sir, yes sir.” He gives a quick salute before laughing. “You hurt her though and I'll kick your ass punk.”
“I’m not planning on it.”
•••••••••••
After running some tests again you confirmed your suspicions. Quickly you went back to find Buck and Steve. Fortunately you find them with Howard this time. With as much as you trusted Stark this was a sensitive matter so you pulled both men into an office so that the conversation was private.
“Bucky, do you remember what they did to you when you were held?” You ask seriously.
“It’s a bit fuzzy but I remember being on an operating table or something. That’s where Steve found me.”
“Anything other than that. No needles or syringes or medicine?”
“Sweetheart what’s going on?”
“I do remember being strapped to a chair and someone putting a needle in my arm but I couldn’t really see what they were doing.”
It’s what you feared and the panicked look on Bucky’s face wasn’t helping.
“I know what Hydra is doing, or partially anyways. They’re trying to recreate Erskine’s serum.” You look between both of them.
“Wait, so what you’re saying is that Bucky also has the serum?”
You take a deep breath as you try to gather your thoughts.
“Yes and no. He has a version of the serum but not the same one as you. It’s missing components. So while Bucky is now stronger and more agile it’s not at the same level as you are.”
“Is that why I can’t get drunk?” Bucky asked, stunned at the news.
“Most likely. Now I can fix it but it will take a bit of time.”
“You can get rid of the serum?” Steve frowned at the possibility.
“No but I can create an altered version with the missing components so that you have the full effects. What do you say?” You anxiously wait for his answer. It’s a bit of a shot in the dark but why not have two super soldiers instead of one.
“Do it.”
“Ok, I’ll let you know when I have it ready. Also it’s better if we keep this between ourselves for now.”
Both men nod as you leave the office. Steve eyes Bucky worriedly.
“Stop staring, didn’t your Ma teach you it’s rude.” Bucky huffs. “I’m fine, I have been for weeks now. Besides, I'm in your girl’s very capable hands.”
“You’re right. Let's finish prepping for the first mission.”
***********************
The first mission had been a success. The commandos managed to clear out another weapons manufacturing factory for hydra. While most of them helped Stark look over some of the weapons, you had worked your way through the offices trying to find any information that might give you more insight as to how far along they are with the serum. You knew they had something already based on Bucky’s lab results but it wasn’t the full picture.
There were abandoned desks everywhere but you focused on offices. The higher ups in the organization would be the ones to have any important information. Time slipped away from you as you found some interesting leads but nothing on the serum.
“There you are.” Steve’s voice broke the silence. You only hummed in acknowledgment. “What are you up to?” He asked as he rounded the corner and began to look over your shoulder. “This is all in German. Can you read it?”
“Yeah, when I was younger my neighbor used to watch me and my brother and she barely spoke English. We were young enough to learn German without realizing it.”
“Ok, well we’re moving out in 5.” Steve smiles as he places a chaste kiss at the top of your head.
“I’m done here anyways. Nothing for me but I did find some leads for you.” You stood as you handed him a notebook with a map tucked into it.
“I’ll take all the help I can get.”
“Really?” You asked, giving him a mischievous look. With every step you took forward he took one back until he was pressed between your body and the wall. An amused look gracing his face.
“Have I told you how good you look in this uniform?”
He shakes his head, the hint of pink disappearing under the cowl he was wearing.
“Well you do. Very handsome… maybe I can take it off sometime.” Your hands found their place on Steve’s chest as you reached up to kiss him.
“Whenever you two are done in there we’re ready to leave.” Bucky’s voice rang out. Immediately you went to the door and stuck your head out glaring at him.
“Spoilsport.”
“You love me!” He winks at you before heading back outside.
“No I don’t.” You shout after him.
Steve stood at the door watching the interaction with a smile on his face.
“We should go,” he lowers his head so that he can whisper in your ear. “But trust me that I’ll let you take anything you want off of me sweetheart.”
•••••••••••••••
As the night went on the commandos found shelter in an abandoned cabin. Dugan and Morita were first to take watch as the rest settled inside. The fireplace was being used and everyone took a corner so that they could rest. You sat on the floor by a window, writing in your notebook as you worked on a modified version of the serum for Bucky.
“What are you working on?” Steve asked as he sat next to you.
“Research.” You looked from him to Bucky who was adding some logs to the fire. A silent understanding passed between you.
After a few more minutes of writing you put your notebook away in the pack you carried with you. You laid your head on Steve’s shoulder and sighed, tired from the day’s events.
“Go to sleep sweetheart. I’m right here.”
“What about you?” A yawn escapes you.
“I’ll be fine, I’ll nap in a little bit.”
“Ok.” You said with your eyes already closed. You felt Steve place a kiss on the top of your head before drifting off to sleep.
***************************
The next few months were the same. Bring down a hydra base, research and move on. It was a uniquely devastating situation to be in. There were many times in which you were close to losing one or several of the commandos during those missions. Fortunately your medical pack was always stocked and if it wasn’t hydra bases had the medical supplies you needed.
On one occasion, which caused yours and Steve’s first fight, you almost lost Falsworth after a group of hydra soldiers cornered him. He had been shot twice and although you were supposed to wait until you got the all clear from Steve to come down, you knew he wouldn’t hold on that long. So you move from your hiding spot, running for cover in between tanks and crates until you get to the fallen commando. You open your bag immediately and begin to look for what you’ll need.
“Ok Falsworth I’m going to move your shirt.” You say as you grab the hem and pull up. He winces between ragged breaths.
“Yo-you shouldn’t.” He groans as you touch the entry points to clean the area. “Be here. Rogers, he-he’ll be mad.”
“And that will be my problem when the time comes, but I’m not gonna let you die out here.”
There’s an explosion somewhere behind you and gunfire picks up.
“Behind you.” Falsworth warns and you turn in time to see hydra soldiers, guns drawn and headed towards you.
“Shit.”
You jump over Falsworth and grab his gun. Turning, you aim and fire, taking down one soldier. Another one falls as you shoot the third. Dropping the gun you turn back to your patient and work quickly, removing the bullets before stitching him up.
“Well look at that, it seems like you’ll live another day.” Dugan said as he approached. It’s when you realized the gunfire had ceased. Dugan helps Falsworth up.
“He’ll need rest for a couple of days but he should be good.” You tell Dugan, “I’ll keep an eye on the healing to make sure you don't get an infection.”
Dugan pulled Falsworth with him and you kneeled to grab your medical bag from the floor. Two sets of footsteps approached as you finished grabbing your tools and putting them back in your bag.
“What were you thinking? You can’t just run down into the field like that.” Steve said sternly when he stopped in front of you.
“I was thinking that I was going to help someone that was hurt. A fellow soldier and a friend.” You looked at him, he was staring at you with a mixture of worry and anger. Bucky, who was standing beside him, was slightly amused although you could tell he had also been worried. “Thank you for the back up Buck.”
“You’re welcome darling.”
“That was dangerous and reckless.”
Bucky took a few steps back until he was able to sneak away from the impending lover’s quarrel. You moved around Steve to head towards the now abandoned building.
“That’s rich coming from you.”
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“It means.” You stopped and turned around to find Steve right behind you. “You’re reckless all the time.”
“It’s my job.”
“And it’s mine too. We’re in the middle of the war. It's dangerous all the time and I wasn’t going to let someone die if I can help them.”
Steve put his hands on his hips and sighed. He knew you were right but just the thought of losing you scared him. You gave him hope for a future he thought he would never have and as long as you were both in the middle of this war there was a chance that he could lose it. Ever since you came into his life, especially after Chicago, he began to dream of settling down and having a family. Steve wanted everything with you but he also knew that you wanted more than to just be a housewife. It was something he admired deeply and he would be there to support you all the way. Still he cared about you so much that his instinct was to protect you more than anything else.
“I’m going inside.” You said before turning back and walking towards the building.
“I’ll keep an eye on her Cap.”
“Thanks Jones.” Steve said as Jones walked by. He turned to the other commandos to find them watching him, talking amongst themselves. Joking as they shook their heads at the blond super soldier. “What?”
“Nothing.”
They liked to tease him, it was very obvious the way he looked at you with heart eyes. They didn’t dare tease you though. You were like a little sister to them but you were fierce and you weren’t scared to put them in their place if needed.
“Hey Cap, she said she needs you and Barnes in there.” Jones had walked out about half an hour later.
“Thanks Jones.”
Bucky and Steve made their way into the building. All that was there was scattered papers and fallen hydra soldiers but they passed by everything and headed towards the lab where Jones said you would be at. They found you hunched over some documents and your notebook as you wrote quickly.
“Is everything ok?” Steve asked as they walked in.
“I finished it.” You looked up with a smile. “I found what I needed to complete the formula and I have everything I need here I can finish the serum. What do you say?”
“Let’s do this.” Bucky nodded, he was terrified but ever since Steve found him he hadn’t felt quite himself. He hoped this would be what was missing.
Both men watched as you moved around the room as if you’d always worked there. You turned when you were ready and you motioned for Bucky to sit on an exam table. He removed his jacket and rolled up his sleeve and watched as you cleaned an area on his forearm. Steve stood just behind you and watched as you injected Bucky with the modified serum, waiting for something to happen.
“That should be it.” You say as you step back and look at Bucky.
“Is something supposed to happen?”
“No-“ you’re interrupted by Bucky’s quick and shallow breathing. His hand comes to his chest and his eyes go wide. “Bucky tell me what’s wrong.” You say as you rush back to him but he falls to his side with eyes closed. He’s not breathing anymore and you try not to panic.
“Buck!” Steve called out but he felt stuck where he stood.
You moved to lay bucky flat on his back to figure out what was wrong when he sits back up causing you to scream.
“I’m just playing darling.” He says before he starts laughing at your startled expression. Steve has his head thrown back and his hand on his chest laughing at what happened.
“That’s not funny!” You cross your arms over your chest and glare at the brunette.
“Oh come on, you should have seen your face.”
Bucky jumps off the table and throws an arm around your shoulder, as he continues to laugh. You fail miserably to hide your smile before elbowing him in the ribs and walking away from his grasp.
“I’m sorry darling. I just couldn’t help it.”
“You’re not sorry at all.”
“You’re right I’m not.” He gives you a shit eating grin.
“Come on, I need to take your blood.”
Bucky sits back up on the table and lets you do what you need to do before you dismiss him. You move towards the microscope with your notebook and the blood sample in hand, aware that Steve is still in the room.
“Everything looks good.” You say after a few minutes.
“That’s good.”
“Yeah.” You say as you look back up at Steve.
“I’m sorry.”
“So am I Steve.”
He walks closer to you with a hand stretched out and you take it. Steve pulls you towards him.
“I just want to keep you safe. So that we can go back home and I can take you on a proper date.”
“What are we doing on this proper date?” You say as your arms wrap around his neck.
“I have it all planned out but it’s a surprise.”
“I like surprises.”
“Me too sweetheart.” Steve leans down to capture your lips in a sweet kiss.
“Come on, let's stop these assholes so we can go home.”
“Language.”
You smile over your shoulder as you pull him out of the lab.
************************************
Howard had managed to take the commandos from their last location in the middle of nowhere back to France. The commanding officers Colonel Philips included wanted an update from Steve so that they could figure out the next steps. The end of the war was near and everyone knew it. And as the holidays happened to be near you were given a small reprieve from being out chasing down hydra. The commandos had been given a few bedrooms at a hotel that was abandoned and then turned into a command center. Everyone enjoyed being able to shower properly and have some privacy.
Before you’re able to walk into the bathroom there’s a knock on your door and you’re not surprised to find Steve on the other side. When you open the door he rushes inside already dressed in his formal uniform looking as handsome as ever. His arms wrap around your waist as he kicks the door closed and pushes you against it. His lips find yours in a heated kiss and when he pulls away you’re gasping for air.
“Hi.”
“Hi.” You giggle.
“I feel like we’ve been here before.” He teases.
“Mm-Hmm. Chicago was very special.”
“It was. But I’m only here for a few minutes. I know you’re going to get ready for tonight. I just wanted to give you something.” He pulls a slim box out of his pocket and presents it to you. “I got this back home, after Chicago. Thought I was going back to New York instead of heading to war.”
You reach out and open it to find a gold necklace with a heart shaped locket. “Steve, it’s beautiful.” When you open the locket you find a picture of Steve tucked inside and you smile.
“Since I have your picture in my compass I thought that you could, I don’t know, have mine here.”
“It’s perfect, I love it. I’ll never take it off.”
You placed the locket in the box before wrapping your arms around him again and kissing him deeply.
“I’ll-uh I’ll let you get ready I’ll see you down there ok.”
“Ok.” You smile up at him before taking the necklace from him.
The pub is full of soldiers, laughter and music. All eyes are on you as you walk in. You had to remember to thank Howard before the night was done for convincing you to bring a dress with you. Your hair was up and out of your face and your make up was minimal and you wore the locket Steve had given you happily. The commandos were sitting towards the back and close to the bar. From the sound of their lively conversation it seemed like most of them were already drunk and the sight of several empty glasses confirmed it.
“There she is!” Dugan pointed as you walked toward their table. The other men whistled and whooped as you got closer. “Well don’t you clean up nice.”
“Well thank you Dum Dum, I could say the same for you. Even Barnes looks presentable.”
“Darling you wound me.” Bucky places a hand over his heart with a pout on his face.
“Yeah well it’s what you deserve.” You feel a hand on your lower back and turn to see Steve standing next to you.
“You look beautiful, sweetheart.”
“You look quite dashing yourself.”
This causes the others to tease as you both stare at each other with heart eyes and matching dopey grins.
“Dance with me?” He says with an outstretched hand.
“Of course.”
“We want a dance too.” You hear Falsworth call out.
“I’m sure Steve will be more than happy to dance with all of you once we’re done.” You wink at them before turning and walking towards the makeshift dance floor.
The small band made up of soldiers started playing a slow song. One of Steve’s hands went to your waist while the other held your hand, leaving you to put your free hand on his shoulder.
“I have to be honest, I'm not really good at dancing.” he confessed, almost as if it were an actual sun.
“You’ve never danced before?”
“Not really, no girls wanted to dance with me before.”
“Idiots.” You scoff.
“Would you?” He asked as he swayed with you.
“Would I what?”
“Have danced with me, you know before the serum.”
“Of course I would have. Pre Serum you has a very special place in my heart.” You smile up at him.
“I love you.” Steve said it so easily it was like he had said it a thousand times before and not for the first time ever.
“I love you too.”
Both his hands are on your waist as he pulls you in and kisses you, passionately and deep. The hoop and hollering from the commandos have you pulling back sooner than you would have liked.
“Well this is a nice first date.”
“Absolutely not. I want a proper first date and I have it all planned out.”
“So what is this plan?”
“Nuh-uh, it’s a surprise.” He smiles before giving you another kiss. “I will tell you that it will be the start of the rest of our lives.”
“I like the sound of that.”
When the music stops Bucky walks up and asks for a dance which you happily accept. The song is slightly more up beat and you can tell that he is definitely the more experienced dancer. You laugh with Bucky as he spins you around and he tells you stories of his and Steve’s adventures. Half way through the dance you see Howard and Peggy walk in. She makes her way to Steve quickly which earns an eye roll from you.
This time when the music stops Howard walks over, without asking he takes your hand and leads you in a dance. But your eyes are on Steve who reluctantly accepts Peggy’s invitation for a dance.
“With the look on your face someone might think I’m a terrible dance partner.” Howard’s voice cuts through your thoughts.
“Sorry, it’s just…” you motion with your head towards them.
“Ah yes, well you shouldn’t worry. Steve only had eyes for you, no matter how much Peggy throws herself at him.”
“Well she looks pathetic, and desperate.”
Howard chuckles at your words.
“How is the research going?”
“It’s going well. Did you get the information I sent you?”
“Yes I did very interesting but something is missing.”
“I agree, but I’m close to the last part of the serum’s breakdown. I think we’ll have a new version out soon. Hydra isn’t even close to it from what I’ve found.”
“Well at least that’s good news.”
You look over to see Steve stepping away and leaving Peggy in the middle of the dance floor. He looks furious and he heads out the door.
“Howard, if you'll excuse me.”
“Of course. It was good seeing you stay safe.”
“You too.” You head out the door and look for Steve, finding him around the corner from the building.
“Hey what’s wrong?”
“Nothing. I just left before I said something I would regret to Peggy.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“She wanted to go back to my room. I told her that I wasn’t interested. I love you but she won’t accept that. And- you know what it doesn’t matter because I’m here with you.”
“So would you be willing to go back to my room with me?” You say with a bit of a smirk.
“I’d go to the ends of the earth with you, sweetheart.”
“Come on then, the end of the earth is this way.”
He chuckles as he lets you grab his hand and pull him down the street toward the hotel you’re staying at. Not even halfway through the walk some soldiers get into a fight and Steve stops.
“Why don’t you go on ahead, I’ll take care of them.”
“Ok.” You kiss his cheek. “I love you.” You whisper before you keep walking down the street.
Right as you’re about to walk into your room you feel hands around your waist and you turn your head to look at Steve and panic sets in. You fight to try and free yourself from the hold whoever it is has on you but it’s not working. The hotel is practically empty and no one hears your pleas for help.
In that moment you knew that the last time you ever saw Steve was down in that street.
*********************************
You take a deep breath as your eyes flutter open. The cold from the chamber you’re in seeps into your bones. You feel disoriented as the chamber door opens and you wait for whoever is going to drag you into the lab but no one comes. On shaky legs you step out, holding on to the edge of the cryogenic chamber and you look around. The room is empty which is unusual. It’s usually full of hydra soldiers and technicians but you finally think it’s your chance to escape. You aren’t even sure how long it’s been since they put you in there but it doesn’t matter. If you can escape and find anyone you can hopefully get back to Steve and that’s all you want. Knowing him, he’s probably blaming himself for what hydra did. You open the metal door slowly, listening for anyone that might be wandering in the corridor. When you’re satisfied that it’s empty you walk out. The silence is good you think, it might mean that Steve and the commandos found you and they’re just working their way down to this level.
After a few more steps you see someone turn a corner and you’re stuck where you stand. Not sure if they’re friend or foe you panic thinking they might be the latter.
“Y/N?”
You recognize that voice. It’s a friendly voice and you’re flooded with relief. They walk closer and the light from the window illuminates Bucky’s face.
“Y/N, is that really you?”
“Bucky!” You choke out before you take a few steps towards him. Bucky bridges the gap as he drops his weapons. His arms wrap around you in a comforting hug.
“Oh darling, I didn’t think I’d see you again.”
You can’t even respond as you cry into his chest.
“We have a friendly I’ll be right up.”
You look up at him confused as to who he might be talking to but he ignored the look you gave him.
“Can you walk?”
“Barely. I’m not sure how long I’ve been in that thing.” Your throat is dry and your voice comes out raspy.
“It's ok, I’ve got you. Just give me a sec.”
He grabs the gun he had dropped and he holsters it before scooping you up bridal style. He moves fast up the hallways and climbs the stairs two or three at a time. Bucky held on tight to you, he was shocked that he’d found you well and he was sure that the news of you being ok. You blinked a few times trying to adjust to the bright rays of the sun, it made you wonder how long had hydra kept you in those labs.
“Can you open your eyes for me darling?”
You blink slowly as you look up at Bucky. He gives you a lopsided smile before moving around you. You were currently strapped down in a seat but Bucky was there so you weren’t scared.
“You’re most likely dehydrated so we’re going to give you an IV ok.”
“Did you replace me as the team nurse?”
You hear him chuckle beside you. It is when you first look around and you’re again confused by your surroundings and then wherever you’re in moves.
“It’s ok, You’re on a jet.” Bucky reassures you. “Clint is flying the jet.” Bucky pointed toward the front of the plane. “And this is my friend Nat, she’s going to help with the IV.”
You look over to find a redhead walking towards you. She nods and gives you a small smile. She’s wearing a black suit that’s very form fitting and you look at her confused. Nat works quickly and sets up the IV, only doing so because Bucky’s hands were shaking so much.
“When did they change the nurses uniform? Have I been out that long?” You ask and you notice the way Nat looks at Bucky, concern written on her face and you turn to look at Bucky. He won’t meet your eyes. “Bucky, what’s going on? And where’s Steve and the others?”
“Darling…” his voice cracks and a tear slips down his cheek.
“Buck please, how long has it been since the night at the pub?”
“It’s been 72 years.” He whispers and you gasp.
“That’s not possible. Where are the others? Howard and Dum Dum, the rest of the commandos?”
He looks at you with tears in his eyes before he looks away. Bucky shakes his head. They’re gone, all of them and it breaks your heart. How is it possible you had seen them a few weeks ago, they were supposed to find you and everything was going to be ok. You cry for all of your friends.
“Steve’s alive.” Nat offers.
“Did he live a good life?”
“Barely, he’s missed you too much. He blames himself.”
“Will you take me to see him?”
“As soon as we land. I promise. Why don’t you get some rest.”
“I still don’t understand how you look so young.”
“I’ll tell you later.”
“Ok.” You say before your eyes close.
*****************************
“Darling, wake up.” Bucky says. “Y/N are you with me?”
“I am.”
“Let’s get you up.” You open your eyes to see him stand and move around to undo the IV. “We’re going to land in about 5 minutes.”
“Ok.”
You look down as you prepare yourself for whatever is going to happen next. If it really had been so long since you were taken that means you have no one left and you weren’t sure how you were going to survive now. Bucky was there and of course he would help you, you know that but your family is gone and you never had a chance to say goodbye. The life you wanted next to Steve is gone too. The thought of seeing him is turning your stomach into knots and you can’t even picture him looking much older. You try to picture him with graying hair but it hurts too much that you didn’t get to grow old together.
“Alright darling let’s go.” Bucky offers you his arm as he leads you down the ramp of the jet.
There’s two men waiting by the landing pad. One of them was shorter with glasses while the other was taller and he was vaguely familiar. Nat and who you assume is Clint walk by you and into the building.
“Y/N this is Dr. Bruce Banner and this is Tony Stark, Howard’s son.” Bucky introduces you and you stare at Tony wide eyed.
“Hi, I-uh I worked with your father.”
“I know, he talked about you all the time.”
“And I’m a fan of your work.” Bruce offered his hand and you gladly accepted it.
“My work?”
“Yes, your notebook that was recovered in your room. It had a lot of great work in it. I’d love to go over it with you and show what scientists were able to do with your information.”
“I would like that very much.” You gave both men a small smile.
“I know that you must be feeling confused about all of this.” Tony waved his hand around. “But just know that we have a place for you here and if you need anything you just let me know.”
“Thank you Tony.”
“Alright we have one more stop before we get you settled.” Bucky says as he guides you towards the entrance. You follow him down a hallway and go up a few floors, having to stop a few times because you’re just tired. Bucky tries to explain the different floors but you can’t keep up. As you turn a corner Bucky explains that you're in the housing section of the compound and that most of the avengers, which he also explained on the way to this floor, lived at. Nat was already standing at a specific floor with another man.
“You must be Y/N, it’s great to finally meet you. I'm Sam.” He walks over to you and offers you his hand which you shake.
“Hi Sam.”
“The door is locked.” Nat informs Bucky, causing him to sigh.
“Friday, unlock the door.”
“Sergeant James Barnes access granted.” You hear someone say and you look around for the source.
“That was the building talking.”
“What?”
“I’ll explain later. Come in.” Bucky opens the door and you look at Sam and Nat as they both take a black square out of their pockets.
“What are those?” You ask them.
“Later.” They say in unison.
You walk in behind Bucky into an apartment. Although everything you’ve seen so far is new and you don’t understand half of it, this place feels like home. It has many of the things you do recognize and you think it belongs to Bucky but then you hear him call out.
“Hey punk, get out here.”
Your heart starts racing at the thought of seeing Steve so soon. There’s no going back now. Before you can escape you hear a door open and you brace yourself to see the love of your life. Then your breath hitches because he’s standing across the living room and he looks upset. Bucky and Sam are blocking you from his view but you can see him clearly. He’s still the Steve you left behind.
“What is it?” He asks as he plays with something in his hand.
“I have a surprise for you.”
“Buck I’m not in the mood fo-“ his words are caught in his throat when Bucky moves to the side. Steve’s mouth was slightly parted and his eyes were open wide as he stared at you.
“Steve.” You say softly, your voice still slightly raspy but it’s music to his ears.
Steve is stuck, frozen in place and he feels as if the wind’s been knocked out of him. You stood in front of him looking exactly how you did the night he lost you. He wanted to touch you, to hold you in his arms so that he knew it wasn’t another dream but he swore his feet were glued down. It didn’t matter because you moved towards him, in fact you ran and his arms opened just in time to catch you. And suddenly it wasn’t a dream anymore because you were there and he felt your tears on his shirt. When you pulled back he looked into those bright eyes he adored so much.
“Sweetheart. Please tell me I’m not dreaming.” He whispered.
“I’m here. This is real.”
You cupped his face with both your hands and he put his forehead against yours. As his tears fell you wiped them away.
“I’ve missed you so much. I’m sorry I didn’t find you. I should have tried harder.”
You pulled him in with a kiss to quiet his apology. He kissed you back with everything he had.
“It’s not your fault. Hydra knew I worked with Erskine, they wanted the formula. I know you did everything you could to find me.”
“It wasn’t enough.”
“I’m here now and so are you. That’s all that matters.”
“They’re so cute. I’m gonna send this to everyone.” You heard behind you and you turned to find Sam, Nat and Bucky watching you, each of them with a smile on their face.
“Ok that’s enough.” Steve tells them.
“Oh come on, she’s my friend and I did find her.”
“But she’s my girl, now get out.”
“I’ll see you later though right Bucky?”
“Of course darling.” He walked towards you and wrapped you in another hug and as he pulled away you noticed his left arm. “It’s a long story and I’m sure I’ll explain everything later.” He kissed your forehead and left, taking Nat and Sam with him.
“Sweetheart, are you ok?”
“No, yes, maybe. I just can’t believe it’s been 72 years.” You turn to look at him. “How do you still look the same age?”
Steve sat you down and explained everything that happened after you disappeared. He told you about everything they did to try and find you and Bucky’s fall from the train. His fight against Red Skull and how he said you were dead. The plane full of bombs that he crashed and how he himself woke up in the future.
“Steve, I can't imagine how that must have been for you.”
“It doesn’t matter anymore.” He cupped your cheek, his thumb swiping back and forth while he looked at you. Steve studied your face and you did the same. “I have something for you.”
“What?”
He pulls out what he was playing with when he first walked out from his pocket.
“My locket!”
“I found it on the floor that night.” You turned so he could put it on.
“I know there’s a lot for you to figure out, so what do you want to do first? Are you tired, do you want to rest?”
You shake your head. “I want what you promised me.”
“What I promised?” He tilts his head slightly confused.
“Yes, a date. A proper one.”
Steve smiled and pulled you into his lap so that you could straddle him. You yelped in surprise as your hands landed on his chest. One hand was on your waist while the other cupped your cheek.
“A proper date it is.” He said before pulling you in to kiss you.

Pairing: pre-serum!Steve Rogers x Lumberjill!Reader
Warnings/Tags: FLUFF, kind of a meet-cute?, mentions of coughing/retching/nausea, pre-serum Steve, descriptions of asthma attack, muscled reader (ofc), nicknames (sweetheart, love, dame,)
Summary: When Steve has an asthma attack on a training drill and gets lost, he meets a friendly axe-wielding dame who takes his breath away. Word count: 1.6k
I hope you enjoy! Likes, comments and reblogs are appreciated 💜 Dividers by: @/saradika-graphics
A/N: I though of lumberjill!reader as soon as I saw the prompt. I know we see a lot of lumberjack!Steve or Steve chopping wood (bc of that scene in AOU) but as someone who did a whole project on the Lumberjills of WW2 in school - I couldn't NOT make a fic about one. We will just ignore that Steve never went to the UK pre-serum though x
I've linked articles here and here on the history of lumberjills that I recommend reading if you have the chance - Love, Grem x

The ship over to England had been awful. The ship's interior was mostly barren and icy cold, which had triggered Steve's asthma. He'd tried hacking quietly in a corner, left to his own devices trying to sketch, but it wasn't long before he was on the deck spewing over the side of the ship - much to the amusement of some of his brother's in arms.
Within the last two hours of the trip, the waves became rockier and more volatile. Despite the size of the ship, it was still knocked about mercilessly in the sea. Now, it wasn't just Steve whose stomach churned. However, the rain outside had everyone stuck to the confines of the ship; soldiers too close, too hot and too sick to complain.
And that was only the beginning.
The rain never seemed to stop, even after leaving the ship. Everything Bucky had said about Britain in his letters was right; it was just grey and muddy. Steve's boots sank far into the mud, slipping and squelching along trying to keep up with the thrum of tired soldiers. Still, despite the sickness, despite the rain, despite everything; he was right where he wanted to be.
The rain never let up.
It was cold and humid, running in the mud through a forest trail somewhere in England. Steve was soaked to the bone and the wet, damp humidity was playing havoc with his lungs. At first, he tried powering through it. Pretending it wasn't happening as his chest tightened and he wheezed for breath.
When he couldn't ignore the tightness around his throat anymore, he'd already fallen behind. He hated this. He hated being sick all the time, the suffering, the pain. The struggling to keep up with everyone else around him. His chest tightened again and it felt like his lungs were being twisted and wrung out like a damn dishcloth.
He was supposed to be training under a British Colonel this afternoon. At least that's what he'd told himself. One who had a reputation for churning out the best soldiers. This drill was one of the first tests all of the privates and officers were put through to see if they could make the cut. Steve had stupidly tried to convince himself he could have done it. Again.
He wasn't sure where he'd turned off to either. He'd stopped to retch and catch his breath and when he'd started to jog again he'd managed to somehow take a wrong turn. Which wasn't helped by the fact he felt another attack brewing in his lungs, and had to slump against a tree to take deep, ragged breaths and cough violently, until it passed. Thankfully, the rain had stopped. "You okay?"
Steve was too busy coughing to respond but his bleary eyes looked up to see someone towering over him with an axe over their shoulder. He sucked in a harsh breath, still desperately trying to breathe. The person leaned closer, voice low and cool:
"You a nazi?" The axe slipped from their shoulder, the blade glinting viciously in the light. Steve's eyes widened and he threw his hands out quickly blinded by panic.
"American!" He wheezed, coughing again. "American!"
His palms fell against the forest floor, damp moss and twigs biting into his skin. The figure leaned back, re-adjusting the axe onto their shoulder. "Oh, sorry sweetheart. Must'a given you quite a fright."
Steve looked up again, blinking away tears from the coughing fit. The voice, now that he was paying attention, was a little too high to belong to a man. In the gentle sunlight that cascaded through the trees, Steve's mouth fell open as the sun caressed your face. You were dressed in overalls and boots caked in mud, some even on your face, with your hair tied behind you. You're smiling down at him, taking in his expression, but seemingly not offended. You looked... beautiful.
"Never seen a Lumber Jill before, have ya love?" You chuckle, offering him your free calloused hand. Steve looks at it dumbly before taking it and you tug him to his feet. You don't expect him to be so light, and he doesn't expect you to be so damn strong; so Steve ends up colliding into you, mumbling flustered apologies.
"S'alright," You chuckle, patting his shoulder as he wheezes again. Steve's face is red from coughing and embarassment. He feels worse now that there's a beautiful dame in front of him and he can barely speak without coughing and sputtering, not to mention the fact that you're helping him. "Come on, let's get you some water."
You jerk your head behind you and lead him to a stump with a backpack leaned against it. There's some neat piles of freshly chopped wood, tied together tightly with black ropes. You place your axe against the stump and rummage in the bag for a moment before handing Steve a flask of water. He mutters his thanks again, his eyes drifting over you as you stand tall again, hands on your hips. You're about his height, maybe a little smaller, but where Steve is lean and thin, you're slender and muscular. Steve can't help but stare at the way your biceps strain at the plaid shirt sleeves you've rolled up.
What a dame.
"Thanks," Steve hands back the flask and you take a swig yourself. "You said you're a - lumber Jill?"
You nod, screwing the top back onto the flask. "One of many in the Women's Timber Corps."
"The -" Steve blinks at you. "Women's Timber Corps? I haven't heard of-"
You wave your hand, cutting him off. "I didn't expect you too. Just another thing we're doing while the boys are away." You give Steve a wry smile, picking up your axe and chopping logs in two with ease and he finds himself feeling a little tongue-tied all over again. "How come you're all the way out here?"
Steve begins to explain the events of the morning and you listen with rapt attention, nodding your head in between soft grunts as you raise your axe. Once he finishes, you look over at him, free hand on your side again and leaning into your axe hilt.
"It's quite a ways back to the barracks by foot." You comment and Steve shrugs.
"I'm a soldier. If I can't even walk back there, I'll be sent home for sure. It was hard enough to get in in the first place." He grumbles, rolling a stone under his foot miserably.
"Who said anything about walking?" You quip, smirking at him. Steve's eyebrows shoot up into his cap when he looks over at you. You nod your head to your right at a dense patch of woods. "I've got the car through there. Let me finish this last pile and I'll drop you back on the way home."
Steve can't quite believe his ears, or his luck, but his momma raised him to be a gentleman. "I couldn't ask you to do that."
You raise an eyebrow at him, smirking slightly. "You're not asking, love. I'm offering. I've got to drop off some piles to the barracks anyway."
Steve grins softly at you and his eyes sparkle. "Let me help get the piles onto the car - at least."
"Sure. Thank you." You continue to chop the last of your logs, watching Steve closely as he dragged two of the four piles of wood past the treeline; huffing and puffing as he went. You had to bite back a grin more than once. Watching him soldier on was incredibly endearing. Although, the look on his face when you joined him at the car towing two of the log piles behind you at once was priceless.
The drive to the barracks was filled with chatter as you and Steve discussed your lives before, and during, the war. When you found out he was an artist, you demanded he bring you sketches when he was next in the town, to which he'd excitedly agreed.
Pulling up outside the heavily trodden gates, you killed the engine and looked over to Steve with a smile. "You better head inside whilst the weather holds."
"Yeah and thanks," Steve gushes, carefully climbing out of the car. He picked up one of the piles in his arms, leaning back to take the weight. You could just about make out the tip of his cap behind the logs and stifled a giggle.
"Don't worry about it, love." You call back to him, seeing his legs wobble a little in the mud and his ears go pink. Your own heart flutters at the sight. "Go and take those straight to Colonel L/N."
"Why? Do you know him?" Steve calls back over the roar of the engine as you restart it. That was the name of the colonel he had been so convinced he could work under. The one who had the reputation oof being one heck of a scary guy but had his soldier's respect. Steve had been unsure how he'd be reprimanded for getting lost, let alone failing to finish the drill. Thoughts of training under the colonel had pretty much dissipated.
"Yeah, he's my father." You chuckle, watching Steve almost do the splits, somehow managing to keep a hold of the wood. "Trust me, you won't be in trouble. If you tell him I sent you."
You drive away once Steve is back inside the barracks, knowing that when your father returned home that night, you would probably get an earful about sending Steve to him. However, you knew that once your father met him and saw that endurance, that drive, that spark you saw; he would help Steve become the best soldier Steve could ever hope to be.

Bucky: So... my eighteenth birthday is tomorrow.
Steve: Yeah, you're so old Buck jeez.
Bucky: You know what that means, though, right?
Steve: What?
Bucky: I'll be an adult. So, we can't, you know...
Steve: Wait...
Steve, eyes lighting up: So it'll be illegal?
Bucky: Well... It was already illegal, so more like... double illegal.
Steve, jumping up and down excitedly: DOUBLE ILLEGAL??????

Chapter Two - – A week later, Greyhound Bus Lines Station, Alexandria VR – 11:27 a.m.
Summary: Addie meets her helper and winds up in the 1930's??
Warnings: none for this chapter! word count: 3,218 words
“Bus 67 leaving for Liberty University Campus at 11:30, boarding now.” The P.A. announced, starting Addie on her short walk from the waiting lot to the long bus that waited to take her on her next stage of life. Her backpack and duffle bag held her items so she could spend the next few weeks comfortably in a hotel until she could find an apartment or even live on campus if she really needed to.
“Have a good trip,” The attendant smiled at her as she passed and she thanked him before climbing the stairs onto the bus. The scent of worn leather seats wafted into her nose as she squeezed through the aisle before picking her seat a little past halfway down the bus. She stuffed her duffle bag under her seat and sat her backpack between her legs so she could access the items inside. Her allergy meds were on top, as usual as she rooted for her earbuds.
“There you are you rascals.”
So she spoke to inanimate objects, big whoop.
She popped them in, immediately turning on her oldies music. She thoroughly enjoyed 40’s and 50’s music, especially the big band songs, plus the bus really gave off the old time vibes.
She smiled and decided she would enjoy the trip.
She yelped softly when her head bumped against the window as the bus hit a bump a little too quickly, so much so that one of her earbuds fell out.
“Now where'd it go..?” She felt around herself and under her seat.
Nothing. She bent forward and checked the metal flooring and thankfully located it near the leg of the seat. She smiled and straightened up, looking out the window to see if they were there yet.
But what she saw outside the widow was quite surprising.
The bus station-- she assumed that’s where they were pulling into--was full of people and the building looked decades old, but not falling apart old, but more like a whole different style old. Almost like something you’d see out of a black-and-white movie.
But no, she was here and she was awake. Was she? She did bump her head but that was barely enough to bruise her. Was she going crazy?
She looked to her right where a young man was sitting, she had to pinch herself from yelping when she recognized the uniform he was wearing was from flipping WOLRD WAR TWO!?!?
It couldn’t be!
“You alright, miss?” The older lady behind her gingerly touched her arm, getting Addie’s attention. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost!”
“I-I’m not sure…” Addie replied, feeling very lost. “Where are we?”
“New York. I take it you had a long night and needed a catnap, hmm?”
“Yeah, I think.” Addie scrunched her brows, looking around. Everything looked retro, but the colors were real and very much alive, nothing like the aesthetics she would see online with the soft yellow undertones or the black-and-white pictures…
Then it hit her; she was back in the 1900’s.
“You gettin’ off, miss?” The driver asked, his northern accent shocking Addie. “I got some more rounds to make ‘fore quittin’ time.”
“Yeah, sorry-“ She grabbed her items and stepped kinda shakily off the bus, staring at everything.
“Hey, watch your step, ma’am.” The soldier from before caught her arm before she lost her balance on the final step. “Would you like me to take your things?”
“Uh, no thanks.” She shook her head, trying not to stare at him. He was so…different. His speech, the way he carried himself, it was all so old-fashion as her friends would call it. “I can manage.”
“Yes, ma’am.” He tipped his hat and walked away with a smile.
Addie was star-struck, she had never seen anyone act like that before in her entire life. It was almost as if he held her in high respects and he didn’t even know her name!
“Hey, wait a second there!” She called jogging after him. “This bus was supposed to go to Richmond! So why am I in New York??”
“Well, theres a good chance you might have gotten on the wrong bus.” He tried, scratching his eyebrow.
“No, I have my ticket right here.” She adjusted her backpack and fished her ticket out of her pocket, she had made sure to keep it handy. But what she pulled out of her jean pocket was not her ticket, it was a GreyHound line ticket, but it was for New York City, one way!
“What the heck?” She whispered.
“Ma’am, you shouldn’t use such strong language.” The soldier in front of her scolded, but his eyes sparkled at her words.
“What?” She looked up, confused. “I was supposed to go to Richmond, but I’m in New York!”
“Yes, ma’am, you are.” He nodded, a smirk tugging at his mouth. “So you can either go the clerk and buy a ticket for Richmond or you can find a place to stay overnight and make a fresh start in the morning.”
“But…I was going to Richmond,” Addie refused to believe it. There was no possible way she had gone from 2024 all the way back to 1940-something. Was the war even happening-?
“Thanks for your help, man." She smiled at the soldier before making a beeline for the newspaper stand where she knew she could find the date.
“If you want you can stay at my place tonight, I’m sure Ma and the other kids wouldn’t mind.” He followed her, offering a quarter for the paper.
Addie smiled and took the quarter, paying the boy for a paper and looking to the top for the date.
“April 6th, 1939?!” She blurted, already seeing spots in front of her eyes.
“Hey, are you feeling alright?” The soldier touched her arm again, stepping closer in case she fainted.
“I..I dunno..” She tried to find her phone but there was nothing in her pocket, not even her earbuds. It wouldn’t have been any use anyway, there was no signal and no way to charge it. “Its 1939?”
“Yes, ma’am.” The soldier nodded, his own faced etched with confusion and concern. “I think you outa come home with me, my ma can help you.” He took the duffle bag from her hand and slung it over his own shoulder.
“I-I really shouldn’t—“ Addie stuttered, not sure if this was a trap or not. But men in the 40’s, especially soldiers, wouldn’t just bring a girl home for things that should be left unsaid. Maybe this guy was sincere..
“C’mon, miss. I can’t just leave a pretty kid like you on the streets alone, besides, you ain’t got a place stay. We’ve always got an extra room. I’ll sleep on the porch and you can use my bed.”
Addie was struck dumb, here he was offering his own bed for her and he didn’t even know her…
How could you say no?
“Alright, you talked me into it.” She sighed, folding the newspaper and shoving it in her backpack. “I should probably know your name before I go home with you, though.”
“Lieutenant James.” He flashed a charming smile and offered his hand. “And may I know your lovely name?
“I’m Addie.” She smiled back, giving his hand a firm shake. “Army?”
“Marines, miss.” He winked proudly and motioned to the steps for her to go first. “Seventh division.”
“Really?” She fell in place beside him as he escorted her down the street, it wasn’t as busy as modern day New York, but the few cars that were on the road were absolutely massive and all metal too. Addie had only seen a few in D.C. and some in Memphis, Tennessee when she visited there for her senior year.
“Yes, ma’am.” Lieutenant James held his head high as he practically strutted down the sidewalk with Addie by his side. She could only imagine what his family would be like.
“You from Richmond?”
“No, I’m from Washington D.C.”
“No kidding? Holy smokes!”
“Its pretty fun, but…” Should she tell him she was from another century, much less that the United States was about to go to war in two years? He would be pleased to know they would win…
“But what?”
“I was so looking forward to Richmond.”
“Whats in Richmond?”
“Liberty University and a Forensics Science degree with a 5,000 dollar scholarship.” She kicked at the pebble, sending it plinking down the sidewalk.
“You’re going to college???” James turned to you, his eyebrows raised high.
“I mean, yeah.” She deadpanned. “I need an education to get a job.”
“Well, gosh, I mean you?”
Then she understood. Women didn’t go to college in the 30’s, much less took jobs in forensics unless it was a secretary.
“Oh-, well um..”
“No, no, I’m impressed, Addie. I really am. That’s high dollar if you were accepted. More power to you.”
“Thanks, Lieutenant.” She smiled at the ground, but she looked up again to stare at the houses. Some of them were new, some of them were really old and could have used a do-over. But the one at the end of the street was flat out gorgeous. White-washed siding and a beautiful wrap-around porch with black shutters and a lovely off-white door. The window’s had cream colored shades inside and the lawn was a wonderful shade of green.
“Oh, its so cute!” She smiled.
“You like it?” The lieutenant grinned. “I wanted it until the old lady bought it. But it looks like with the war in Europe I might be heading off soon.” He said bittersweetly. “Man, is Katie gonna have a cow.”’
Addie snickered at the term, she hadn’t heard it before but it was quite appropriate for him.
“Does your family live on this street?”
“Right down the next block,” He pointed to the stop sign a few hundred feet away where a gang of kids were playing catch it looked like in the street. Addie could hear their shouts all the way from where she was.
“My little sister is the one in the green,” James pointed to the girl who looked to be around twelve with a backwards baseball cap on over her red hair, her green shirt was covered in dirt along with her jeans.
“Oh my,” Addie snickered. “Whats her name?”
“McKenzie, but we just call her Mickey.”
“That’s cute”
“And there’s Rebecca, she's the one refereeing, but she’s called Rikki. Her brother lives in Brooklyn.”
The name lit off a bulb in Addie’s mind, Rikki was a nickname for a certain character’s little sister, she just couldn’t place it—
“They certainly look like they’re having fun.” Addie smiled as they turned the corner onto another street.
“They always do. As long as they’re outside then Ma don’t mind.” James smirked as he glanced at her.
When they reached the house, it looked rather small but once the lieutenant opened the door and called for his Ma, the room seemed twice as big as it looked from the outside.
Addie glanced around, taking in as many details as she could. It was cluttery, simply well-loved. As if many people made thousands of memories in this house.
“Willy!” An older woman, probably mid 40’s rushed into the room, wrapping her arms around the young man’s neck and giving him a kiss. “Why didn’t you call from the station?? I thought you’d never get here!”
“I’m sorry, Ma. I got a little side-tracked.” Willy smiled and looked to Addie. “Ma, this is Addie, she could use a place to stay tonight. I think she meant to get on the bus for Richmond instead of New York.”
“Oh, you poor dearie!” Ma took Addie’s hand. “Of course you can stay here! Willy, get the young ladies things and take them to Joseph’s room, he can sleep in Henry’s room with him.”
“Yes, ma’am.” Lieutenant Willy took Addie’s backpack and duffle bag and bolted up the stairs.
“Now come in here and tell me about yousself.” Ma pulled Addie into the kitchen and set her down at the table. The smell of something cooking in the oven made Addie smile.
“Well, it’s a crazy story.” She shook her head in disbelief. “So much has happened, I just don’t know if its all real!”
“Willy’s a good boy, he’ll take care of you, honey.”
“Oh, no!” She laughed. “We’re not a thing, he just offered me a place to stay, I’m not even looking right now.”
“Oh bless me!” She put her hand on her bosom. “You mean he hasn’t taken a liking toward you?”
“No, ma’am. I was a little tipsy at the bus stop and he just helped me, that’s all. I didn’t even know his first name was Willy until you said it.”
“Oh-! Well, then, do you need to get to Richmond tonight??”
“I’m…” She paused. “I’m not sure.” Her hand played with the ticket between her fingers. “Now that I think about it, I don’t think what I was going there for even exists…”
“Now, don’t look so sad, young’un.” Ma patted Addie’s hand as she sat down, setting a plate of cookies on the checkered tables cloth. “Eat yourself some of those, you’ll feel better.”
Addie couldn’t do anything but smile and take a bite from the cookies. They were less sweeter than she expected, but that would account for the Depression’s effect on everyone. Sugar was probably a rarity back then- or…right now. She still couldn’t quite wrap her mind around it.
“Well, you can stay here as long as you like, honey. Maybe you’ll warm up to Willy.” Ma smiled mischeviously and patted Addie’s hand again as Willy opened the door and poked his head inside.
“Am I being nosy?” He smirked before his ma waved him inside.
“Get in here! Addie is thinking of staying with us a little longer, Willy.”
“Well- I didn’t really say that, but thank you for the offer. I really don’t know how I got here and where I should go now.”
“Where you from, darling? Are your parents in Richmond?”
“I’m from D.C., but my mom…I-..” She trailed off. How on earth was she supposed to work this out?? For all she knew, this woman could have been her great-great grandmother.
“Have another cookie, sweetheart. You’re always welcome here anytime.” Ma touched her shoulder, her eyes softening.
“I’m not an orphan or anything,” Addie shook her head. “But I lived on my own and I haven’t seen my dad for..oh, five years? He was deployed for combat a long time ago and we got news that he went missing in action.”
“Aw, honey. I’m so sorry.” Ma frowned. “Are you alright?”
“Yeah, yeah,” Addie nodded slowly. She wasn’t exactly close with her dad, but she did miss him. “Yeah, I’m okay.”
“Dinner should be soon, you two. Joseph!” Ma stood up and called out the screen door.
“Yeah, Ma??” A young boy called back.
“Would you go tell Mickey and Danny dinner is almost ready?”
“On it!” Joseph went to do the chore as Willy cleaned off the plate of cookies.
“Holy cow, mom, your cookies got better!”
“William!”
“She hasn’t been able to bake worth her life for the last three years.” Willy grinned at Addie who grinned and shook her head.
“And you’ve been the one to suffer, huh?”
“Oh, you have no idea.” He groaned before his mom smacked his.
He laughed as Addie snickered into her hand. And then it hit her.
“Is there a library around here?” She hit her palms on the table top.
“Well, sure there’s on downtown.” Willy thumbed in the direction indicated.
“Dinner’s almost ready!” Ma objected.
“I’m sorry, but I have to check something and I don’t know how long I have.” Addie stood up and turned to Willy. “Will you please take me there?”
“Sure, but right now?”
“I have to check something.”
“Alright,” Willy shrugged and stood up.
“I’ll keep your dinner warm.”
“Thanks, Ma.” Willy waved before he opened the door for Addie, who quickly strode toward the street.
“So what so important, kid?” Willy jogged to catch up with her. “You look like my sargent on patrol.”
“I want to look someone up, but I’m not sure if it’ll be there.”
“You sure are some girl.” He laughed and shook his head.
New York Public Library, 3:45 p.m.
Addie didn’t really know where to start except to ask the lady at the desk with the glasses that could have fried ants within seconds.
“Excuse me,” She leaned against the high desk, keeping her voice low. “How do I look up ancestry?”
“Last name?”
“Jeannes. Two ‘N’s.”
“Follow me, please.” She smiled softly before appearing from around the desk and taking her around the aisles and aisles of books, it smelled like books in there along with a touch of warm air from outside. Willy followed her closely as the lady took Addie to a line of filing cabinets.
“’J’ through ‘K’ is in this drawer,” She pulled open the cabinet and began to finger through the files. “Here we are.” She smiled as she handed the correct file to Addie. “Is there anything else I can help you with?”
“No, thanks.” Addie shook her head and began to spread the papers on the table in the middle of the room. “But I might have some more questions later on.”
“Alright, I’ll be at the desk then.” The lady smiled and pushed her glasses up her nose before silently stalking off back to her post.
“So who are we looking for?” Willy leaned over the chair, his elbows resting on the back.
“A man name Isiah Jones, he married my grandmother and then his daughter divorced her first husband and then married my dad.”
“Jones, Jones..” Willy looked over the first paper he picked up. “I think I heard of a Jones in my unit, but I doubt he’s the one you’re looking for.”
“What makes you say that?”
“He’s a Korean.” Willy smirked.
Addie rolled her eyes and shook her head, sitting down and studying the papers before her. If she could find her grandfather, she could find a place to stay…that is if she could explain her existence.
“Got him.” Willy slid the paper across the table as Addie grabbed it.
“Isiah Jones, married to Camile Jones, maiden name Rogers—“ Hang on.
“Hey, um, do me a favor and pull the Rogers file for me.”
“Alrighty.” Willy stood up and began to look for the file. “Another relation, I take it?”
“Not this time, but I think I just figured something out…” Addie poured over her grandfather’s family before Willy set the file beside her.
She attacked it, looking for the name she so desperately needed to find.
“Rogers, Rogers… Aha, Sarah and Joseph Rogers! Theres no way!!”
“Silence, please!” An old man hissed from the hallway.
Addie blushed but couldn’t help the grin of excitement that spread across her face.
“There is no freaking way..” She breathed, touching her cheeks. “So lets see….I have to stay three years, that’s all.”
“What?” Willy squinted.
“Okay, do you know Steve Rogers?”
“Uh, I think I’ve met him once and that was through Bucky, Rikki’s brother.”
Addie let out another squeal, absolutely enthralled. Not only was she dropped in the middle of an international crisis, she has been dropped the Marvel Universe!! God bless Stephen Strange.

Fluff Alphabet - Pre Serum Steve Rogers
A - Activities - What do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them?
If the weather is good and you want to spend some time outside, a simple stroll is probably what you will end up doing. You might settle in a park with some snacks too but it wouldn't be anything big. Steve doesn't need much when he's with you.
If you are planning an indoor activity, I feel like a museum would be the most likely. It can be cheap, you learn things, it's calm. Sounds perfect!
Lastly, if you are staying home, card games would be a must.
B - Beauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?
This dumbass thinks you're courageous for dating him.
He genuinely admires your confidence though. You might not be the most courageous, but he will still believe you are more than him.
Aside from that, he loves your smile. Man, is he smitten for you but even more so when you smile. The smallest grin makes his heart flutter.
C - Comfort - How would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?
Once you've gotten a chance to let it all out if you wish, Steve would start telling you fun anecdotes. He'd talk about his mother, about how much she would have loved you. He'd tell you about things he had pulled off with Bucky or about those times Buck had made a fool of himself.
Steve would hold your hand the entire time and smile at you in hopes to see you crack a grin too. If you'd let him, Steve would also give you a hug. He feels like it's never much coming from him, but if it helps you feel better, he'll do it.
D - Dreams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?
Steve does dream of starting a family with you, but he's too damn scared. He doesn't want for his children to inherit all his health issues. He doesn't want for them to potentially grow up in poverty. He'd be terrified at the thought that his children could get bullied. But that is only if you want children as well. In which case you will have to reassure him about all his fears.
If you do not want kids though, Steve would be just fine growing old by your side. A pet or two might be nice. As long as you are there~
E - Equal - Are they the dominant one in the relationship, or rather passive?
I wouldn't go as far as saying he's passive, but he isn't the dominant type either. Steve would prioritize communication above all. Anything that regards your relationship would be discussed with you first. What regards him only would also be talked about, but rather in hopes to have your opinion. You might bring up interesting arguments after all. Steve hopes you to do just the same.
F - Fight - Would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?
Boy is stubborn.
I think that Steve wants to forgive you quickly, but can't. Just give him maximum a few days and he will. That is, unless you did something truly awful.
As to his attitude during a fight... I feel like it truly depends on your own behaviour. If you can stay quite cool, he will too. If you are the shouting type though? I think he'll shout back. Steve will feel bad about it as soon as the fight is over though and he will apologize for his attitude.
G - Gratitude - How grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?
He's hyperaware. And he's so so grateful. Like... this boy will constantly thank you for the smallest gestures. He's also a hopeless romantic, so expect to be thanked for simply being there, for loving him, for letting him love you, for making him happy, for being a part of his life and more.
H - Honesty - Do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? Or do they share everything?
I feel like Steve would be pretty honest altogether except for 2 things.
If he gets in a fight yet again, he will probably try to come up with a lame excuse. That is because he doesn't want to worry you or get scolded.
The second thing he might try hiding are his more negative emotions. There too, he doesn't want to worry you but he's also afraid of bothering you. Steve is scared for his doubts, fears, anger or sadness to ruin any good moments you might share.
I - Inspiration - Did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems?
Steve will learn to dance for you. He dead ass will. He craves for midnight dances with you in your tiny apartment. He's just that kind of hopeless romantic.
Aside from that, Steve will probably also try to be more confident. Again, you can have as little courage as you want, to him you still have more than he does.
J - Jealousy - Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?
I don't think Steve would get jealous so easily. He fully trusts you. Despite that, he might need some reassurance every once in a while. Steve still lacks self confidence despite his best efforts and he needs to be reminded that you truly do love him. It still sounds so unbelievable to him sometimes. You will know when to remind him easily because he always becomes quieter than he usually is when you are alone.
K - Kiss - Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?
The first kiss you share is a bit clumsy. Steve is just so damn nervous. He decides that letting you lead the way is probably the best things he can do.
Once he becomes more familiar with the gesture, Steve can not be stopped. He loves giving you quick little pecks any chance he gets. It is usually done in private. Although, if you are in a semi remote place, like a booth in a diner, he will probably do it as well. It's discreet, cute, a bit shy... perfect for Steve.
L - Love Confession - How would they confess to their s/o?
Steve doesn't need to confess. His feelings are quite obvious after the amount of dates you have gone onto. Despite that, he still wishes to properly proclaim his love for you.
The day he decides to do it, he comes to your house. He'd rather confess his feelings somewhere private, thus the choice. He also brings a bouquet of flowers - if he can't find your favourites he will go with classic red roses.
When you open the door, Steve is shaking like a leaf. You probably think he is cold at first so you offer him a warm drink but he kindly refuses.
The silence of the man you love so dearly starts worrying you after a while and the flowers do not help. As your mind begins going down a spiral, you kindly encourage Steve to speak.
That is when he will tell you. He will go on about how wonderful you are and how he doesn't expect for you to return his feelings. You'll have to cut him off so he can hear your true answer. And let me tell you, boy is over the moon.
M - Marriage - Do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?
Steve would love to get married honestly. But just like with starting a family, he would settle for anything that you are comfortable with.
If you get married, it will probably be a small ceremony. Steve will have proposed to you almost in the same way that he confessed. He was almost equally nervous istg.
Afterwards you'd have dinner at a local restaurant with the few guests you invited. Your first dance might not even happen in public. Steve would have the guts to ask you to keep that for your first night together.
Also, Bucky is definitely Steve's best man.
N - Nicknames - What do they call their s/o?
Hmmmm... I feel like Steve wouldn't go for the classic 1940s "doll". He'd go for something much more tender like darling or dear or dove. Pumpkin is also one I could hear him say.
O - On Cloud Nine - What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?
It is so damn obvious. To you, to Bucky, to literally anyone who hears Steve talk about you or sees him interact with you for like 5 seconds. He bloody knows it too, but he simply is not sure of how to hide it. Not like he necessarily wants to either once he realises you're not weirded out.
Steve personally strikes me as someone whose love languages are quality time and acts of service. He'll walk you home, he'll run an errand if you don't have the time, he'll cook you dinner if you get home late. And when you are together, he makes sure to really be there. He's in the moment with you. That is when he is the happiest.
P - PDA - Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?
Steve isn't the biggest on PDA. The thing I can see him being most comfortable with is you holding onto his arm or fingers intertwined. As said previously though, he isn't against a quick, discreet peck on the lips if the area is less crowded.
He isn't really one to brag either. Surely if someone asks Steve if you are his partner, he will proudly say yes, but he won't bring up the subject. Or maybe he will, but not as a way to brag. If he tells someone about you or your relationship it's because he's so damn smitten haha!
Q - Quirk - Some random ability they have that’s beneficial in a relationship.
Steve is a surprisingly good cook! He can make a great meal out of not much as long as he has the proper spices! You can eat pretty much the same for a whole week without feeling like you are because Steve will prepare it differently every time.
R - Romance - How romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?
Hopeless romantic alert!
Like I said, man will learn to dance just because he constantly (day)dreams about having midnight dance sessions with you!
I do believe he's a bit cliché in his romantic gestures though. Dancing, flowers, picnics, pecking your forehead and moving your hair out of your face whenever he finds you sleeping. He'd write you love letters even after years of relationship. Yup, big softie here.
S - Support - Are they helping their s/o achieve their goals? Do they believe in them?
Steve would definitely be your biggest hypeman. More than most, he knows what it's like to be told he can't achieve something. It'd probably break his heart whenever you'd be rejected or fail, but he'll always find ways to cheer you up and motivate you. Steve knows how important your projects are to you and he wants to be there for you and see you achieve them. He knows you will get there.
T - Thrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?
I feel like Steve finds a certain comfort in routine. It appeases him. So if there are exceptions (and there are), they are rather small or sporadic. Like a night at the theatre or dinner at a restaurant. That's Steve's way of spicing things up haha!
U - Understanding - How good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?
Steve strikes me as a good listener and thus really empathetic. He knows his partner particularly well because he spends so much time just listening to them. Their voice appeases him but that doesn't mean it keeps him from paying attention to what's being said. In fact, he remembers the most important parts and sometimes small details.
Trust him to know what your favourite flower or drink is just because you mentioned it once or he noticed you having it often.
V - Value - How important is the relationship to them? What is it’s worth in comparison to other things in their life?
Your relationship and his friendship with Bucky are pretty much the two most important things in Steve's life. Of course he hates bullies and he cares about justice but you two remain his top priority.
Which one of you most though? Hard to tell. If it even matters at all.
W - Wild Card - A random Fluff Headcanon
Steve isn't really the clingiest while sleeping but he loves falling asleep while holding your hand. It's a really nice way for him to not feel like he's invading your space while also knowing you are close.
X - XOXO - Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle?
I mean, he does attack you with quick little pecks haha!
Aside from that, I'd still say mostly yes. Steve will kiss you any time of the day but cuddles are rather an evening thing. He tends to initiate them the most after dinner or when you are lying in bed. At first he might be a bit nervous, but fairly quickly, he completely relaxes whenever he holds you close.
Y - Yearning - How will they cope when they’re missing their partner?
When you are apart, Steve will spend a lot of time with Bucky. He hopes that this will distract him from your absence but, really, all he does is tell Buck your entire life story. God bless him for listening.
Depending on how long you are apart, Steve will also write you letters. He might send them out if they have a chance of getting to you, other way he will hand them to you directly as a welcome back gift.
Z -Zeal - Are they willing to go to great lengths for the relationship? If so, what kind of?
Hmmmm this is a tough one. A part of me feels like Steve would follow you to the end of the world but another part tells me he would rather stay in Brooklyn.
I think that since Steve loves routine, he would probably be okay with following you anywhere as long as it's a settled place - preferably not too far from Bucky though. He wouldn't be the most hyped about going on tours and things like that if they are too long.
Putting an end to his friendship with Bucky is also something he would never do. If you really don't like him for some reason, he'll try to find a compromise instead but his best friend is too important to him.
Aside from that, I do think he'd go to pretty great lengths for your relationship.
Well, this took quite some time to write so any kudos, reblogs or comments are more than welcome ^^

Masterlist
Exuberant. If Bucky had to describe the look in his best pal's face, he'd have to use the word exuberant.
When Bucky had suggested the double date, Steve had groaned - long and drawn out - but had relented with a deep sigh. His agreement didn't stop the man from dragging his feet the entire way there, though. A habit that Bucky had come to accept if he was to ever get Steve to meet a dame.
And this one, Steve seemed rather enamoured with. Well, that was an colossal understatement. Steve was completely and utterly besotted with her. The dame was beautiful, even Bucky could admit that. She was the kind of beauty that was often overlooked; it's innocence often snuffed out by the more...sexy girls that filled the dance hall.
Steve's hands rested on your hips, slender fingers curled against the soft fabric of your dress as he slowly swayed with you. You probably looked just as out of place and awkward as him, your hands tentatively rested against his shoulders as your eyes darted about the room.
"Y/n?" Steve mumbled, eyes centred on your lips. Your eyes snapped to his, baby blue calming as you bit your lip.
"Yes, Steve?" You murmured, starting to feel slightly flushed as the boy leant closer.
"Can I- can I kiss you?" Steve pondered, eyes searching your face for the usual disgust or pity that came with that question whenever he asked it. But he didn't find any.
Instead, you nodded. Sure and slow. Steve leant in, a small smile playing on his pink lips as he leant closer. The feeling of them fluttering over your cheek, plump and slightly wet nearly made you swoon. It lingered, his long eyelashes feathering against your skin.
Then, he pulled away. You dropped your hands from his shoulders as you felt your cheeks grow hot and your skin burn deliciously where the kiss still tingled. Steve stepped away from you abruptly, a pink flush spreading from the tips of his ears to under the collar of his shirt.
"Thank you, for teaching me how to dance." Steve muttered awkwardly, finally meeting your eyes with his. You smiled warmly at that.
"It was a pleasure. Goodbye, Steve." You mumbled back as you began to walk away, by Steve's thin hand around yours stopped you. You gave him a puzzled look.
"I hope we can, uh, do this again sometime? Maybe grab some food?" Steve asked, scratching the back of his neck as his body caved in with the nerves.
"I'd love that." You beamed brightly, your cheeks growing even hotter as Steve tentatively lifted your hand to his face and brushed his lips across the back.
"Until next time, then." Steve whispered and you bit your lip.
"Until next time." Then you walked away, and Steve sighed. Something caught his attention, a grinning Bucky out the corner of his eye. Steve breathed a little laugh, but the goofy grin on his face would not go away.
The next time Bucky dragged Steve out with him, you came. And the time after that, the time after, and the time after that. It was their thing now, Bucky often had a new dame on his arm whilst both and you and Steve grew more confident and comfortable around one another.
Cheek kisses were now a common occurrence, as well as Steve's skinny arm wrapped around your waist or his small had grasped in yours. He always had to be touching you somehow in public now, a claim that you were his and that everyone else should back off.
Your ma said it was unusual, that he was a) so skinny and b) that he was so possessive. But you found it endearing, it was just his way of telling others you were already his.
It was that night that Steve finally took you back to their apartment, Bucky having shipped off to England merely a week prior.
It was bittersweet, really. You knew Steve planned signing up again, planned on enlisting. You knew this was going to be his goodbye, his final hurrah with you before he most likely never saw you again.
And quite honestly, you'd made peace with that. The man you'd come to love was perusing what he loved, and even though that didn't seem to be you, you were happy for him.
"So where are you gonna be from this time?" You pondered as Steve fiddled with the key, finally jamming the cool metal into the lock. He hummed as he turned the key, the door sliding open as he tilted his head in thought.
"I was thinkin' Jersey, but I'm not quite sure yet." Steve remarked as he strolled into the small flat, you closely on his heels as the keys were thrown onto a brittle-looking table with a jingling clang. "I just wan' to get out there, ya know? Men like Bucky are riskin' their lives and I'm here, unscathed. It doesn't seem right."
You nodded solemnly, but the bright smile still stayed firm on your lips as Steve led you through the small apartment.
"I just hope I can be in the 107th, you know? Fight with Buck and just make my dad proud." Steve sighed, bordering on dreamily as he flopped down on the sofa - which was clearly in need for some heavy TLC.
You stood awkwardly, hands clasped in front of you as Steve twiddled his thumbs in his lap.
"I just hope that we win, is all." He finished and you gave him a bright smile.
"Well, they won't without you, soldier." You hummed and Steve's baby blue eyes peered up at you through thick lashes.
"You think so?" He pondered and you placed a gentle hand on his cheek.
"Truly. Our country needs a little guy - someone who will fight for those over there rather than those he had at home. As much as we're struggling..."
"There's men dying and no one seems to care." Steve finished your sentence and you nodded.
"Exactly." You muttered as you perched yourself of the sofa beside his skinny frame.
"Can I kiss you?" Steve's low voice mumbled, eyes flicking precariously between your lips and your eyes. Your breathing shallowed, and your heat slipped a beat.
"You know you don't have to ask anymore, soldier." You murmured, turning your face slightly to the side to giving him access to your cheek. But thin fingers grasped your chin in a soft hold, tilting your head back towards Steve as an amused glint flashed in his eyes.
"That's not what I'm asking." Steve's voice rumbled.
"Oh." You paused, hope glimmering in your eyes and Steve couldn't help himself.
His lips were soft against yours, if not a little chapped. It was a little messy, clumsy perhaps, but to you it was perfect. When you pulled away, Steve's lips were spread into a gleeful grin, eyes alight with joy.
"That was..."
"Awful." Steve cut you off and you were both set into spinning fits of laughter. You fell back against the sofa, hands clutched over your stomachs as your wriggled.
"I'm sorry. There are probably better first kisses than me." You said once you began to calm down, wiping the little tear that'd escaped from your cheek.
"You're the only girl I want to kiss." Steve whispered, head lolling to the side to look at you again. You swallowed thickly, eyes finding his lips again - slightly swollen from your disaster of a kiss.
You stumbled back together, knees caving as the backs bumped into the mattress. You and Steve fell together, arms still wrapped around one-another as you both giggled, his lips pecking against yours repeatedly.
You pulled Steve into a longer, deeper kiss - hands cupping his cheeks as his supported himself over you on the bed.
"How should we...start?" You mumbled against his lips, pulling away slightly and opening your eyes to find baby blue gazing down on you lovingly.
"Buck said I need to get you wet? But I'm not sure how I'm meant to, uh, do that?" Steve said doubtfully, both of you bursting back into giggles again as Steve's head dropped to rest in the crook of your neck.
"Maybe you're supposed to use your fingers?" You suggested, lifting a hand and wiggling your fingers. Steve blew a raspberry into your neck as he laughed, your own head through back as you wriggled beneath him with laughter.
The goofiness seemed to cease for a moment as Steve took his head from your neck, meeting your eyes with a soft stare.
"Are you sure about this?" He murmured, eyes loving. You nodded, lip trapped between your teeth.
"Yes." Steve sighed, ducking his head for a moment.
"But are you really sure? I mean, you'd be losing your virginity to, well," Steve looked down at himself, scrawny and small, "me."
You giggled, rubbing your fingers through his blonde locks, manoeuvring them away from his face.
"Of course I want it to be you, I wouldn't be here if I didn't, silly." You expressed, placing a quick kiss to his lips before looking up at the man through your lashes.
"I just need to know you're sure about this, doll." Steve mumbled, gaze burning your skin.
"I'm sure. D'ya know why?" You murmured, and Steve shook his head. "Because I love you." You uttered the words for the first time.
Steve's head snapped up. He couldn't believe it. He never thought he'd ever hear those words falling from a dame's lips, not about him.
"Y-you mean it?" He whispered, voice cracking. You nodded.
"Every word." Steve's heart swelled, his lips spreading gorgeously into a sweet smile.
"I love you too, y/n." Steve beamed, and his lips were on yours again. It was clumsy, sort of messy with inexperience but it was all you wanted in that moment.
Steve's slim fingers began to trail down your body, hiking your skirt around your waist so he could finger the band of your underwear.
"And you're sure about this? We can wait if you're not ready..." Steve asked again, browsed raised.
"Are you sure it isn't you that's not sure? It's fine if you're not Steve, we can wait until you're ready." You countered pulling back from him. Your thumb smoothed over his cheek, a touch that he nuzzled into.
"I'm sure, just a little nervous is all." Steve reassured. You smiled and pecked his lips.
"Wanna know a secret?" You whispered against his mouth and Steve nodded, a small movement. "I am too."
With that you were both laughing again, your legs kicking as Steve's fingers tickled over the inside of your thigh.
"Steve! Steve stop! It tickles!" You panted and gasped through your laughter, Steve's lips curled into something of a triumphant smile against your neck as he slowed his fingers.
"Mmmm, only because I love ya." Steve murmured, placing a kiss to the base on your neck before pulling away enough to help you take your blouse and skirt off.
He froze, ogling your body as his eyes flickered over your brassiere, your heaving chest, your panties, your slightly spread thighs.
"You're so gorgeous, sweetheart." Steve murmured and you giggled.
"C'mere." You mumbled, hooking your fingers into the collar of Steve's shirt and pulling him down on top of you again. He squeaked in surprise, but soon a breathy chuckle was slipping through his lips and onto yours.
You moaned when his fingers tugged down your panties, tracing your lips. He was mesmerised, eyes wide as he watched himself play with your folds.
"Steve!" You moaned when his fingers fluttered over your clit, your thighs snapping shut and your back arching. He pulled away instantly, worry in his beautiful eyes.
"Did I hurt you? Did I do something wrong?" His voice was panicked, filled with the dread of hurting his best girl. You shook your head, taking his hand in one of yours and guiding his fingers back to the same spot.
"No. It felt good. S'good!" You were moaning again, his fingers finding their way over your clit again in little circles.
You pulled away, lips shiny with spit and precum as your tongue smoothed over then. You moaned at the taste of him, Steve's musky sent lingering on your tongue.
"Where did you learn that?" Steve was breathy, voice merely a pant as his chest rose and fell rapidly. His face was red, pleasure still warped over his perfect features as his elbows propped up his thin frame. You smirked, lips curling up as your wiped your mouth with the back of your hand.
"Bucky teaches you about women, Angie teaches me about men." You hummed, placing a chaste kiss to each of Steve's hip bones before crawling over him.
"Well you're very good at it." Steve gasped, eyes sliding shut when he felt your lips on his. You giggled, the laugh flirtatious when you felt his hands on your hips.
He flipped you over, rolling across the bed in the limited space it offered as you both laughed. He placed small pecks all over your face, lips brushing lovingly over your forehead, your cheeks, your chin, the tip of your nose, and finally your lips.
You deepened the kiss, lips locking as your arms secured around his neck. Your hips jumped a little when you felt his tip bump your clit, still slightly sensitive from the orgasm he pulled from you with his fingers. You squirmed, Steve smirking against your lips.
"Steve, please, I need you inside me." Your lips formed a round the words desperately as he pulled away. His face dropped into seriousness, eyes glinting with question.
"Are you sure, doll? We can stop if you need to." You loved how sweet he was, how caring he was. You shook your head, lip tucking between your teeth.
"Please." You repeated, hand cupping his cheek as Steve nuzzled against your touch.
"Okay." He brought a hand down, tickling from your throat to your stomach as he did so. You wriggled beneath him, shrieking with laughter as he chuckled.
You settled once he stopped, nothing but love in your eyes as you watched the way the little crease appeared between his brows, which were furrowed in concentration as he lined himself up with you.
You both moaned when he pushed forwards, hips snug against yours as his length filled you up. His size was impressive for his body, the slim man hiding a good 7 inches.
Steve stilled, breath heavy as you panted against each other's mouths. You could feel the stretch, the slight burn tingling through your walls as you whimpered.
"You okay? Should I- should I stop? I can just pull out gently, it's no big dea-" Steve began to ramble worry in his face as he began to sit back, his length slowly sliding out of you.
"No. No, I'm fine. Just, give me a minute?" You mumbled, eyes pleading with his as Steve let himself slide back in to the hilt.
"Yeah, okay. Okay. As long as I'm not hurting you." Steve whispered, placing a delicate kiss to your hair line. After a moment you wiggled your hips, the feeling of Steve's damp lips resting against your slightly-sweaty forehead and his cock seated within you becoming too much.
"You can move now." You mumbled, and Steve smiled.
"You sure, princess?" He double checked, only starting to slide out of you when you nodded again.
The pace was slow, loving. Heavy breaths and pants were shared between open mouths; hair stuck to skin with sweat; broken moans hung low in the air.
"Oh, Steve!" You cried out when his fingers started fiddling with your clit again, your hips attempting to thrust up against his.
"Is that the right spot, sweetheart?" Steve asked, but he clearly knew it was by the way your eyes had disappeared into your skull. He kept up the little ministrations, rubbing until he felt you on the precipice of another orgasm.
"Please, Steve, more." Your demand made him smirk, the man picking up the pace just a little until you were writhing beneath him, hands clutching his small shoulders.
Somehow, it hit you like a ton of bricks, your walls fluttered and Steve's eyes widened. He quickly pulled out, letting his fingers pull you through your release as little white spots speckled your vision.
Steve's other hand moved to his length, rubbing up and down as fast as he could before he was releasing himself onto your stomach, a plane of white on perfect skin.
"Wow." You breathed and Steve couldn't hold back his laugh, the man collapsing on top of you and letting his head rest on your neck.
His laughter vibrates against your skin, your own joining his in a melody of joy as your hands smoothed through his now-damp hair.

About Last Night (Pre-Serum Omega!Steve and Alpha!Bucky Modern Mpreg Fic
"'So, you hopin' for a repeat?'
'Unless, you'd rather not,' Bucky genuinely gave Steve an out as he assured, 'I'd like to get to know you for more than just what you can do in bed. But only if you want to.'
Steve's heart slammed to a stop and Steve asked, 'Can I think about it?'
'Of course,' Bucky good-humoredly scoffed. Still holding the shot of pure vodka, Bucky pressed his lips together and set it on the table next to his glass of water. Leaning back in his seat, he looked over at Steve with a slow grin stretching on his face. Looking both ridiculous and adorable with the plush Turkey Hat of Shame on his head.
Playfully, Steve shook his head. Even though, deep down, he wanted nothing more than to take Bucky's offer. The offer for a repeat of Halloween, and the offer to let the alpha get to know him. The only thing that stopped him though was that he could see himself really falling for Bucky. And he wasn't sure he was ready to do that. Yet..."

Awwww, are they melting your heart?
Thanks for reblogging, sweets.
Loving you means loving myself - Chapter 2
AN: Welcome back for my second entryfor Hot Bucky Summer, organised by @buckybarnesevents. This is chapter two of the fic I posted last week.
For the Week Two prompt “What should I call you?”, I have chosen Daddy.
Thank you to @linnahiell for beta-ing
Mood board by me and dividers by @firefly-graphics
Masterlist | Hot Bucky Summer Masterlist | Chapter 1
Summary: Steve's home and Bucky is eager for what's going to happen. Steve is in no mood to rush though.
Relationship: Beefy Bucky x Small Steve
Word Count: 1.8k
CW: Indulgent fluff, mild sexual content, flashbacks, domestic Bucky, small amount of dirty talk, light D/S tones, Daddy kink, everything is soft and nothing hurts.
In…
Out…
Bucky tried to regulate his breathing as he waited, trying to stay as calm and relaxed as much as he could, despite the excitement within him trying to break free. Steve appreciated it if Bucky could control himself, at least to start with. He’d be allowed free reign of himself later in the evening. Luckily, he didn’t have to wait long.
The sound of keys jingling in the lock made Bucky’s heart skip a beat, and his feet squirmed against his ass. Somehow he managed to keep his expression under control.
The door opened and he walked through. Steve. The light of Bucky’s life.
“Daddy.”
He said the title reverently, and with that one word, Steve entirely understood. A smile played at the edges of the blonds lips, as he looked at Bucky, not breaking eye contact while he took off and hung up his coat, dumped his keys on the entrance table and loosened his tie.
With measured strides, Steve made his way across the small space separating them and Bucky could feel his heart-rate increasing with each step, his spine getting more and more tense, until Steve finally reached him. A strong hand cupped Bucky’s jaw and with that one touch all that tension fled his body as he relaxed into it.
“Hey, baby. You look absolutely beautiful. And dinner smells wonderful. Is this all for me?”
Steve’s deep voice made him shiver, but somehow Bucky managed to drag his eyelids, which had closed on their own the moment Steve’s flesh had connected with his own, open and looked up into the eyes of his lover.
“‘S for us, Daddy. Like looking pretty. And I like pasta, too.”
Bucky saw Steve’s eyes soften, and felt Steve’s thumb rubbing across his cheekbone. He could tell Steve was happy with his answer, and if he were a puppy, he was sure his tail would be wagging.
“Good boy. You should always do things that make you happy, not just me.”
“Yes, Daddy.”
Steve looked at him for a few moments longer, and Bucky could feel himself getting fidgety under the intense scrutiny, but then Steve let go of his face and took a step back, holding out his hand.
“Up you get, baby. Let me take a good look at you, and then we can eat the dinner you’ve so lovingly made.”
Taking hold of the proffered hand, Bucky rose to his feet.
He was still in awe of the differences between them, and probably always would be. At first glance, people would probably make assumptions about their dynamic, but they’d also probably be wrong.
Bucky was tall, just over 6ft, and by his own admission a bit of a gym bro. He liked to work out, and had broad shoulders, a solid core and thick thighs. However, he was also the first to admit he was the subbiest bottom he knew. He loved to get fucked, but he also loved to please his top, be told what to do and then be praised for it.
Steve, on the other hand, was only 5ft 6in, and so slim he looked like a strong breeze would snap him in half. However, guys only made the assumption that he was a bottom once, or that they could push him around less times than that.
Bucky was constantly amazed by how many people were just unable to see the ‘dom aura’ that just poured out of Steve. He remembered the first time they’d met - introduced by mutual friends in a bar, and Bucky was not ashamed to admit to Steve later that he almost fell straight to his knees right away. Later was in fact that same evening, with Bucky admitting it while he actually was on his knees, in the washroom, desperately trying to get Steve’s cock out of his pants…
They’d fallen into their dynamic fast, Bucky eager to serve and Steve eager to praise, and it hadn’t taken much longer for them to say those magic words to each other. They were like two pieces of a puzzle that fit beautifully together.
“Buck?”
Bucky snapped back to the present with a small jolt, realising that he’d zoned out.
“You alright, baby?” There was a note of concern in Steve’s voice, and Bucky smiled.
“I’m alright, Daddy. Just thinking ‘bout us and how much I love you.”
“Aww, aren’t you the cutest thing?” Steve stood up on his toes and pressed a light kiss to Bucky’s lips. “Now, turn around, so I can see how prettily you’ve wrapped yourself.”
He couldn’t help the smile that spread across his face, and he also didn’t care if he was blushing. Steve was allowed to compliment him, and he was working hard on trying to accept them when they came. He’d only gotten half way through his turn when he felt Steve plaster himself to his back, those slim arms with ridiculously broad hands sliding around his waist, and dipping ever so slightly lower, to brush a palm briefly over Bucky’s crotch.
Bucky bit back a moan, and Steve gave out a low chuckle. “I’m sorry, baby, but you’re just so goddamn tempting. This is definitely your colour. Now, I promise to leave you be for now. I’m gonna go wash up and I’ll be right back.”
Bucky turned in Steve’s embrace and pressed a kiss to the mop of blond hair.
“I’ll hold you to that. I don’t want dinner to spoil.”
“I’d never disrespect you like that, and you know it.”
“And you know I’m just teasing.”
Steve stood up on his toes once again and nipped at Bucky’s lower lip.
“I’ll bear that in mind for later on.”
He walked away then, with strong, assured steps and Bucky definitely wasn’t watching as Steve released the cuff buttons of his shirt and started to roll the sleeves up. However, it was time for the final meal preparations.
Having turned on the toaster oven, Bucky halved some ciabatta rolls and popped them under the heat. While the tops crisped and browned, he carefully took the lasagne out of the oven. The smell was amazing.
He cut out two portions with a knife and then carefully dished them out onto matching plates. Some salad was placed on the side with a drizzle of honey-balsamic dressing on top, and then the timer on the toaster oven went ping. He pulled the hot toasted bread out, blowing on his fingers at the sting, and sprinkled olive oil over all four pieces, and then rubbed them with a fat garlic clove.
When a pair of arms wrapped around his waist, and a deep, sexy voice whispered in his ear, Bucky almost leapt up to the ceiling.
“Mmmm, can’t wait to tuck in.”
Steve moved away as quickly as he’d appeared, carafe of wine in hand, leaving a blushing Bucky in his wake.
With a shake of his head, Bucky picked up the two plates and carried them across the small space to the table, where Steve had poured out two glasses of wine and was taking his seat. Bucky placed the dishes down, deftly removed his apron and sat down for the much anticipated dinner.
“That was delicious, baby. Thank you.” Steve pushed back his chair and stood, empty plate in hand. Moving around to the other side of the table, he gathered up Bucky’s plate and then pressed a sweet kiss to Bucky’s waiting lips. “Now, I’m going to clean up here. I think you should head through to the bedroom, and get my desert ready, don’t you?”
How could so few words have such an effect on him? And did he really just let out a whimper? Well, Steve’s little smirk indicated that he had.
“Going sweet on me already, baby?” Steve’s hand cupped Bucky’s face. “We’ve not even started. Bet you’re gonna go deep tonight, aren’t you?”
Bucky didn’t know what to say, just looked up at Steve with wide eyes.
“Come on, up now. Go and get comfy and I’ll be with you in a few minutes.”
“Yes, Daddy.”
“Good boy.”
Somehow he got to his feet and, with another kiss from Steve, practically floated down the corridor.
As he walked around the bedroom, lighting the candles he’d prepared earlier, Bucky thought back to those first days with Steve. Admittedly, the washroom blowjob wasn’t his finest hour, but he was never going to regret the impulsivity that had brought him to where he was now.
Their first date had been two days after they met. Steve had invited him for dinner and they’d spent the evening talking and flirting, away from the prying eyes, whoops and hollers of their friends. Steve had walked him home, kissed him, but refused to come inside.
“I’d love to come in, Bucky. But even though we got off to a fast start,” his lips had twitched and Bucky had snorted, “I’d like to get to know you better, and have some frank discussions about what we both want. Because I think this could be so wonderful if we do it right.”
“Come in and we can talk right now, Steve.”
“No, because you’ll go all sweet and start sucking my cock before I can even start, just like the other day. Be patient. It’s not all about the destination - the journey is just as important.”
It had been on a stroll through Central Park on their third date, the leaves turning orange and littering the path, when Steve had asked Bucky what he wanted from their relationship. Bucky had blushed as his words had stumbled out, as he’d admitted that he had a thing for being looked after and praised. Steve had smiled and twined their fingers together.
“It’s a good thing that I like looking after good boys, then.”
They’d discussed the things they didn’t like too, Bucky admitting that his size and build had made previous partners assume things about him and Steve had given him a wry smile and said that the same had often happened to him. Awkward chuckles gave way to full laughs as they realised the serendipity that had brought them together.
There were two more dates and a lot more kissing and talking before Steve asked Bucky if he wanted to stay the night. Bucky said yes, called him Daddy that first time, and never looked back.
The memory made him smile as he lit the last of the candles and then crossed to the bathroom for a last minute freshen up. He washed his hands, checked his hair and make-up and returned to the bedroom, a thrum of excitement pulsing through his body. Carefully he removed his lounge outfit, folding the soft silk and folding the two pieces before placing them on the top of the chest of drawers. He then crossed to the bed, climbed up and knelt down, his legs tucked beneath him. He then lay down, chest to the mattress and his arms laying down either side of him. He hoped Steve wouldn’t be long.

Stucky Headcannon
Ok so Stucky in the 40s
Bucky would do absolutely anything for his Stevie and vice versa
Everytime they go to Coney Island they take cute photos in the booth that always ends up with them making out
This causes them to leave early and work out some of the sexual frustration
Stevie always has that cute little blush on his face whenever Bucky calls him doll
Best believe Bucky takes advantage of that and takes any opportunity to whisper sweet/dirty things in Stevie's ear in public
"You look so handsome doll"
"Doll I can't wait to take you home and ravish you. I live for your little whimpers"
Oh and it happens when they get back to their cozy little apartment
As soon as the door closes Stevie is immediately pushed up against the door
Lots of tongue and nipping at the lips
It's rare that they make it to the bed
And they often have to remind themselves to keep quiet so they don't get in trouble
But on the horrible days that Stevie gets sick Bucky is there for him all day
Reading to him
Feeding him
Bathing him even though Stevie insists that he doesn't
"Jesus Christ Buck I'm sick not incompetent leave me alone!"
"Absolutely not! You need me so I'm staying"
"Well you don't need to. I can get by on my own"
"Yeah, well the thing is you don't have to. Cause I'm with you till the end of the line"
"Jerk"
"Punk"
"I love you"
"I love you too"
Lots of cuddling ensue
Only a couple of their close friends know about them
Mama Barnes and Becca even had a bet going on
Mama Barnes won of course (mother knows best)
Bucky makes it his goal to tell Stevie how much he is loved and appreciated
Especially when Stevie gets jealous
He has this little frown on his face and gets so passive aggressive
All Bucky can do is laugh which angers Stevie even more
"Oh calm down doll. You know I don't care for these dames. You're the only one for me."
Stevie, being the petty little thing that he is refuses to smile at that
In fact he huffs, rolls his eyes and turns away with his arms crossed
"Do I gotta show ya. Cause I will get down on my kne-"
"Bucky! We are in public!"
"Ya point sweetface"
To make a long story short 40s Stucky is my favorite Stucky
