It’s completely silent and concentration is total. All focus is on carving the stick, sliver by sliver, on carefully evening out the edges of the piece of wood. Is it going to be a bark boat? A barbecue stick? Or maybe even a magic wand? A stick is not a stick! Working with a vegetable peeler and a stick can give long moments of pleasure. It gives adult and children alike an almost meditative feeling of being in the present. As always when working with a vegetable peeler one needs to have respect for the tool, both adults and children alike. When I carve wood together with children, we need to be aware of what we do with the tool, how we carve and how we behave. Sharing experiences! I shared my painting experience at @pinotstustin @wonderschool with my group of children. They were very eager to try their own "Turtle Painting". I helped with drawing the turtle shape with a pencil. They went to town with tracing with a sharpie and watercolor paint on watercolor rectangles. It was a really great experience as each were different yet the same! Counting linking cubes is a good way for preschoolers to practice  one to one correspondence. (One-to-one correspondence means matching one object to one number or object such as saying “one” as you touch the first block, “two” as you touch the second block.) Today we are exploring how many letters are in our name as we practice one-to-one correspondence.
