LONDON, Nov 25 (Reuters) - Arsenal moved top of the Premier League when a late goal by Kai Havertz earned them a 1-0 victory at Brentford on Saturday.
Manchester City's earlier draw with Liverpool meant Mikel Arteta's side would leapfrog both clubs with a win but that did not look likely for most of the game.

Seeing Color
Lando Norris x soulmate!Reader
Summary: the average person goes their whole life without seeing so much as a drop of color, so safe to say youâre quite surprised when the sky suddenly turns blue while youâre covering Formula 1 for the first time
The skyâs a muted gray, just like every other day of your life, as you stand in the bustling paddock of Silverstone, trying to ignore the knot in your stomach.
This isnât what you signed up for. Footballâs your thing â sweaty players, goals, and post-match interviews in rain-soaked stadiums. But motorsport? Formula 1? Itâs a different beast altogether.
âJust one race,â your supervisor had assured you. âItâll be fine, Y/N. Youâre a pro.â
Easy for them to say. The paddock is a maze of garages, team colors (which are a uniform grayscale for you, of course), and a cacophony of sounds thatâs more overwhelming than a packed Premier League stadium.
Youâve been briefed on the basics â Max Verstappenâs the reigning champ, Lewis Hamiltonâs the legend, and Lando Norris, the homegrown young talent, just secured P2.
P2. The words feel alien, even though you repeat them to yourself over and over, willing them to become familiar. Podium finish, second place. Youâve got this.
But the truth is, you donât. Not really. And itâs showing as you fumble with your notes, trying to prepare for the post-race interviews. Your heartâs racing faster than any of the cars on the track.
âHey, you alright there?â
The voice comes from behind you, startling you out of your thoughts. You turn around and see a young man â not too tall, with curly hair, and a faint smirk playing on his lips. You recognize him immediately, even in black and white.
Lando Norris.
âYeah, just-â You scramble for professionalism, straightening your back and offering what you hope is a confident smile. âJust getting ready for the interviews.â
Landoâs eyes flicker down to the notes in your hand. âFirst time covering F1?â
Your smile falters. âIs it that obvious?â
He chuckles softly, and for a moment, itâs as if the world around you narrows down to just the two of you standing there in the paddock, the sounds and chaos fading into the background.
âA little,â he admits, leaning casually against the wall, as if heâs got all the time in the world. âBut donât worry, Iâll go easy on you.â
You canât help but laugh, the sound surprising even yourself. Thereâs something about his easygoing manner that puts you at ease, just for a moment. âI appreciate that.â
âY/N Y/L/N, right?â He asks, and youâre caught off guard that he knows your name.
âThatâs me,â you reply, slipping into the role of interviewer as best as you can. âCongratulations on P2, by the way. How was the race for you?â
He glances at you, and for a brief second, his expression changes. Itâs subtle â almost imperceptible â but itâs there. Something shifts in his eyes, something that makes your breath catch in your throat.
âThanks,â he says, but the word comes out softer than you expect. Thereâs a pause, a moment of hesitation, before he continues. âThe race was ⊠it was intense. But honestly? Standing here right now ⊠it feels like something else is happening.â
You frown slightly, not understanding. âWhat do you mean?â
Lando looks at you again, more intently this time, and youâre acutely aware of the way your pulse is thumping in your ears. âLook around,â he murmurs, his voice low, as if heâs sharing a secret. âDo you see anything different?â
You blink, confused. You glance around, expecting to see the same monotone world youâve always known, the same dull shades of gray. But instead ⊠you see it. A soft glow in the distance, a faint tinge of color in the sky.
Itâs ⊠blue.
A gasp escapes your lips before you can stop it. âWhat âŠâ
Lando steps closer, his expression as bewildered as yours. âYou see it too, donât you?â
âI-I donât understand,â you stammer, your heart racing even faster now. âThis canât be real. Iâve never seen color before.â
âNeither have I,â he admits, his voice barely above a whisper. âBut ⊠Iâm seeing it now. Because of you.â
The air around you feels electric, charged with something you canât quite name. Your eyes lock onto his, and suddenly, the world isnât gray anymore. Itâs alive with hues and shades that youâve only ever imagined. His eyes, a stunning shade of fluid green, meet yours with the same wonder.
âThis canât be real,â you repeat, more to yourself than to him. Youâre trying to make sense of the impossible, of the vivid blues and greens and reds that are slowly seeping into your vision, like the world is waking up from a long sleep.
Lando reaches out, his hand hovering near yours, not quite touching. Thereâs a vulnerability in his gaze thatâs startling â like heâs just as unsure of whatâs happening as you are. âI think âŠâ he starts, then stops, swallowing hard before trying again. âI think itâs because weâre soulmates.â
âSoulmates?â You echo, the word feeling foreign on your tongue. Youâve heard the stories, the myths â how the world is black and white until you meet the person youâre meant to be with.
But itâs just that, isnât it? A myth? A fairytale? With over 8 billion people on Earth, the chances of actually meeting your fated match are slim-to-none. Most of the population has grown to accept that they will never see anything other than black and white.
âYeah,â he says softly. âThatâs what they say, right? You donât see color until you meet your soulmate. But I never thought itâd actually happen. Not like this.â
Youâre silent for a moment, trying to process it all. The colors, the implications, the fact that this person â this stranger â is suddenly supposed to mean everything to you. Itâs overwhelming.
âI donât even know you,â you whisper, voicing your fears. âHow can we be soulmates if we donât even know each other?â
Landoâs smile is small, almost shy. âI guess weâll have to change that, wonât we?â
The words are simple, but they carry a weight that youâre not sure youâre ready to bear. But when he looks at you like that, with such sincerity, you find yourself nodding.
âYeah,â you agree softly. âI guess we will.â
He takes a step closer, and this time, his hand does brush against yours, sending a jolt of electricity through your body. You feel it in every nerve, every inch of your being. Itâs like the world has shifted on its axis, and youâre standing at the center of something much bigger than yourself.
âCan I ask you something?â Landoâs voice is quiet, almost tentative.
âOf course,â you reply, your voice just as soft.
âWhatâs your favorite color?â
The question catches you off guard. Itâs such a simple thing, and yet, in this moment, it feels like the most important question in the world. You look around, taking in the colors that are now flooding your vision â the vibrant greens of the trees in the distance, the deep blues of the sky, the bright reds and yellows of the cars and team logos.
âI donât know,â you admit, and the honesty of it feels right. âIâve never had a favorite color before.â
Lando smiles, a real smile this time, and itâs like the sun breaking through the clouds. âPretty sure Iâm legally obligated to say mineâs papaya,â he laughs, and you notice it for the first time â the vibrant hue of his teamâs colors, standing out against the grayscale world youâve known until now. âI think youâll like it.â
You smile back at him, feeling the connection between you deepening with every passing second. Itâs terrifying, and exhilarating, and everything in between.
âI think I might,â you say, and the words are full of a promise that youâre not sure you fully understand yet, but that feels right nonetheless.
For a moment, the world falls away, and itâs just the two of you, standing there in a kaleidoscope of color thatâs bursting into life all around you. The roar of the engines, the clamor of the crowd â it all fades into the background as you look at each other, truly seeing each other for the first time.
âSo ⊠what happens now?â You ask, your voice barely above a whisper.
Landoâs hand tightens around yours, and thereâs a steadiness in his gaze that grounds you. âWe take it one step at a time,â he says. âWe get to know each other. And we see where this goes.â
The simplicity of his words is comforting. Thereâs no grand declaration, no rush to figure everything out. Just a promise to take things as they come, to let whatever this is between you grow naturally, in its own time.
âIâd like that,â you say, and you mean it.
He grins, that boyish charm back in full force, and you canât help but smile in return. âGood,â he says. âBecause I think weâre going to be seeing a lot more of each other.â
Thereâs a warmth in his tone that makes your heart skip a beat, and for the first time since this whole whirlwind began, you find yourself excited about the future â about the possibility of whatâs to come.
âYeah,â you reply, your smile widening. âI think we are.â
And as you stand there, hand-in-hand with Lando Norris, surrounded by the vibrant colors of a world thatâs finally come to life, you canât help but think that maybe, just maybe, this is where you were always meant to be.

Perfectly Blended
A Jamie Tartt x reader Short Story
Masterlist
Pairing: Jamie Tartt x fem! make-up artist reader
TW: cursing, suggestive scene/language, kissing
A/N: This ff is inspired by the idea/request of @shadowyhologramlady thank you so much! Please give her a follow if you like!
AFC Richmondâs training ground wasnât exactly the kind of place one expects to see an array of makeup brushes and highlighters laid out like surgical tools. But here she was, Y/N Y/L/N, leaning against a counter in the locker room, organizing her kit while waiting for Keeley to finish her meeting with Rebecca.
It all started rather fast. Y/N certainly didn't expect to get a call from Keeley Jones at midnight six months ago, tipsy off rosĂ©, begging her to help out with AFC Richmondâs media team because âfootballers need good skin too, babe. For their interviews and sponsorships.â
Y/N's actual main job was being a freelance makeup artist, working with models, influencers, and even the occasional musician. But suddenly her best friend Keeley hooked her up with this job. Ever since Keeley convinced Rebecca to let her run the clubâs marketing, Y/Nâd been roped into working part-time (recently more like full-time) at Richmond, mostly for media days and promotional shoots.
So, Y/N's new daily job was standing in the clubâs locker room, arranging her makeup kit on the counter, and waiting for the players to get ready for their touch-ups before interviews.
All while Jamie Tarttâactual Premier League star, occasional pain in the ass, and her best friendâs biggest headacheâwatched her like she was performing some magic trick.
âOi, whatâs all this then?â Jamie said while touching a beauty blender that was laid out on the table.
Y/N glanced up at Jamie, who was dripping with post-training sweat, hair pushed back with his signature headband. He smelled like overpriced cologne and whatever soap they used in the showers, and despite how ridiculous it was, the combination made her brain short-circuit for half a second.
âItâs called makeup, Jamie,â she teased, holding up a brush. âSurely youâve heard of it.â
âOh, I know what makeup is. My mum watches Love Island, innit?â He smirked, crossing his arms as he eyed the foundations and powders spread out before them.
"That's... lovely Jamie."
âSo, youâre tellinâ me they actually pay you to do this?â Jamie asked, leaning against the counter, arms crossed over his chest.
Without looking up again, Y/N sighed. âNo, Jamie, I break into the training ground every week just for fun.â
His lips curled into a smirk. âWouldnât be surprised. Bet you love beinâ around me.â
She finally glanced up, raising a brow. âYeah, Jamie. I keep doing footballers' makeup so I can powder your pretty little nose all day.â
âSee? Knew it.â
She rolled her eyes, but the truth was, she had known Jamie for a while now. And they've had this flirty tension ever since they met.
You see, they know each other through Keeley. Y/N and Keeley had been inseparable since their early days in the industryâback when Keeley was a model and Y/N was just starting out as a makeup artist. Their friendship had landed Y/N some of her first big gigs, and eventually, when Keeley transitioned into PR, she had this idea and pulled Y/N along for the ride.
That was how she officially ended up working part-time at AFC Richmond, doing touch-ups for media days, promotional shoots, and the occasional interview. And that was also how she ended up crossing paths with Jamie Tartt.
Jamie, who had been Keeleyâs ex. Jamie, who had a reputation for being both unbearably cocky and stupidly attractive. Jamie, who flirted with her in a way that was definitely not friendly, despite Keeleyâs constant eye-rolls and smirks whenever she caught them talking. "God, just fuck and get it over with." Keeley's words.
There was something about himâsomething infuriatingly charming, something Y/N refused to acknowledge as attraction, even though she knew deep down that was exactly what it was.
Jamie liked to push.
And she liked pushing right back.
Which was why it was so easy to smirk at him now and say, âAre you just here to annoy me, or did you actually need something?â
Jamie shrugged. âBit of both.â
She sighed dramatically, turning back to her kit. âAlright, well, unless you need concealer for those eye bagsââ
âOi! I donât have eye bags.â
She smirked. ââor maybe some setting powder for that sweaty forehead of yoursââ
âNot sweaty, Iâm glistening.â
ââthen Iâm busy.â
Jamie chuckled, stepping closer. âAlright, fine. Maybe I was thinkinâ⊠you ever need a model for that little makeup account of yours, I could do it.â
That actually made her pause. âYou? Model for me? On my Instagram?â
âYeah,â Jamie said, shrugging like it was no big deal. âI reckon Iâd look dead fit with a bit of contour.â
She snorted. âYou already think you look dead fit, Tartt.â
âYeah, but now imagine it with highlight. Drop dead gorgeous.â
She eyed him suspiciously, trying to gauge whether or not he was joking. But noâhe was giving her that smug, lopsided grin, dimples out in full force, because he knew exactly what he was doing.
And the worst part? It was working.
ââŠFine,â she relented, pointing a brush at him. âBut if I do this, you have to sit still and actually listen to me.â
Jamie pressed a hand to his chest. âSwear on me mumâs life.â
She rolled her eyes but gestured for him to sit.
He dropped into the chair, looking way too pleased with himself as she stood in between his legs and pumped a little foundation onto the back of her hand.
âYou better not make me look like a dickhead, love.â
âNo promises,â she muttered, dabbing the sponge onto his face.
The second it touched his cheek, Jamie flinched.
âJesus Christ, thatâs cold!â
She snorted. âOh, suck it up, you get tackled for a living.â
Jamie huffed but let her continue, even as his skin warmed under her touch. His lashes were stupidly long up close, and he kept watching her with that same smug glint in his eye.
âThis your favorite part?â Jamie mused.
She didnât look up. âWhat, applying foundation?â
âNah,â he said, smirking. âTouchinâ my face.â
She paused just long enough for his grin to widen.
âOh my God,â she muttered. âYou are so full of yourself.â
Jamie leaned back slightly, still grinning. âYeah, but you usually love it.â
She ignored him and grabbed a brow gel, brushing up his eyebrows.
âThat shit feels weird.â
âLooks good, though.â
Jamie waggled his brows. âLook at you givin' me compliments now. Told you Iâd be a good model.â
"I mean you are a handsome man, don't see why you wouldn't be a good model." She mumbled fully concentrated.
"I mean, I personally think you're fuckin' fitâ"
"Shhhh." She shushed him by applying some chapstick before he could say something that would make her go fucking feral for him.
Jamie gave her a knowing smirk, making her laugh. âAm I bein' good so far? Behavin'?â
âYeah, yeah,â you muttered, picking up a soft bronzer. âOkay, now letâs give you some definition.â
His smirk deepened. âThought you said I already had too much definition.â
âOkay, first of allââ You pointed at him with the brush. âYou should not be that smug about having cheekbones.â
âCanât help it, babe. Genetics, innit?â
You fought the urge to roll your eyes as you dusted bronzer along his jaw. âSecond of all, if you interrupt me again, Iâm putting glitter on you.â
Jamie gasped, pressing a hand to his chest. âYou wouldnât.â
You held up a shimmery highlighter. âTry me.â
He eyed it warily before sitting up straighter. âRight, sorry Iâll be good.â
Once she was done, she stepped back to admire her work.
âThere. You look ridiculously good, Jamie.â
Nah, you have to realize he looked good before, but now...fuck.
Jamie turned to the mirror, tilting his head like he was properly analyzing himself. âNot bad,â he admitted, rubbing a thumb along his jawâbefore she swatted his hand away.
âDo not mess it up, I still need pictures.â
Jamie sighed dramatically. âRight, right. The things I do for the arts.â
She grabbed her phone, snapping a few shots as he posed like a modelâone hand under his chin, then a serious smolder, then holding a football like he was starring in some Vogue athlete feature. She couldnât stop laughing, especially when he gave her the full Zoolander pose.
Eventually, after the last photo, Jamie leaned back in his chair and gave her a lookâone that was softer than before, a little more genuine. She was still standing in between his legs admiring the photos she took of him.
âYouâre actually really good at this, yâknow.â
She blinked, momentarily thrown. âThanks, Jamie.â
He tilted his head. âHow come you donât do, like⊠big celebrities and that, anymore?â
She shrugged. âI do, sometimes. But I like working with people I know. Plus, the football stuff is fun and Keeley keeps me busy and well-paid here.â
Jamie hummed, then suddenly said, âBet youâd be dead fit with a bit of blush.â
She frowned. âI am wearing blush, Jamie.â
He smirked. âYeah, but I mean, like⊠if I put it on you. Let me try.â
Before she could respond, Jamie grabbed the blush brush from her kit, twirling it between his fingers.
âCâmon,â he said, tilting his head. âFairâs fair.â
She crossed her arms. âDo you even know how to use that?â
Jamie shrugged. âHow hard can it be?â
She sighed but let him dust the blush across her cheek. His fingers brushed her skin lightly as he blended it inâcareful, gentle. The teasing was still there, but the air between them shifted.
Jamie wasnât just playing around anymore.
She could feel it in the way he was watching her.
The brush faltered, then slowly dropped.
Y/N shook her head, trying not to heat up too much under his gaze. âWell, thanks for letting me use your face.â
âI'd let you use my face anytime,â he said easily while giving her his signature smirk. Neither of them were moving.
Y/N glanced up. âOh really?â At this point, she was indulging him.
She could still feel the warmth of his fingertips lingering against her skin. His gaze flickered from her eyes to her lipsâquick, instinctive.
Her breath hitched.
Jamie exhaled slowly. âYeah.â
She wasnât sure who leaned in first.
Maybe it was him. Maybe it was her.
Maybe it had been a long time coming.
But before she could overthink it, before she could talk herself out of itâJamieâs lips brushed against hers, sending a spark down her spine.
She didnât pull away.
Instead, her fingers curled into the fabric of his training jersey, tugging him closer as he kissed herâsoft, but firm, like heâd been waiting for this just as much as she had.
His hand came up to her jaw, the same one that had been holding the brush just moments ago, now tilting her face just right as he deepened the kiss. He tasted faintly of mint gum and something sweet, something him, and it was dizzying how easily she melted into it.
Jamie smirked against her lips. âTold you youâd look good with blush.â
She huffed a laugh. âShut up.â
And then she kissed him again.

Yes this is hella self-indulgent... so self-indulgent in fact that this will be very Northern / Geordie based so apologies in advance my loves <3
This was also inspired by the event of last night for those who were involved in the complete insanity (i love you guys)
The way you spoke was a little bit of a culture shock for Noah, especially with the phrases and sayings that came out of your mouth.
You often had to explain what things meant to him.
Like that âteaâ was in fact âdinnerâ as well as being the beverage.
Or that âpuddingâ was âdesertâ and not a type of desert.
Your accent left him puzzled, especially when you called home and your accent became stronger as you spoke to your friends and family.
He did admittedly find your accent attractive however
Being from Newcastle, football was a big part of your life.
You glared at him whenever he called it soccer.
When he visited your family for the first time, your dad was insistent on taking him to the match, so you spent hours teaching him all the chants that he would need to know along with the players names and the general rules of the game.
He really enjoyed it, even though the fans were insane.
You even made your phone wallpaper a photo of you and Noah in the home kit as it had rapidly become your favourite photo of the two of you.
When Bad Omens toured the U.K., you became the unofficial tour guide, showing the guys around and telling them all of the best places to eat before and after shows.
The guys werenât as used to the rapidly changing weather, especially not the ridiculous amount of wind that you got up north.
Folio even bought himself one of those god awful Adidas tracksuits that you couldnât go ten feet in England without seeing.
You paid him good money to not wear it.
Matt was obviously sad that you didnât get raccoons over in the U.K., but he settled for badgers.
Being British in the US was weird.
You often got asked to say certain phrases, or asked if you had ever met various celebrities, which you thought was weird.
Noah loved watching your comfort shows like Friday Night Dinner and the Inbetweeners. So much so that he had began randomly quoting moments from the shows you showed him.
The one thing that he didnât understand was why there were so many different tea brands, and why there was warfare between people who liked different brands.
You had tried to explain but he wouldnât listen.
You had even caught him making a fantasy Premier League team on his phone when he thought you werenât looking.
That was your proudest moment as his girlfriend.
That was until he accidentally spilled boiling water on his finger and let out an extremely loud âBLOODY HELL!â

Y/N was completely and unequivocally in love, the kind of love that made you feel like you were 14 years old in your room crying to Taylor Swiftâs âYou Belong With Meâ, the kind of love that hurt more than it felt good. When she moved to London, desperate to get out of her sleepy town in the English countryside, and applied for a job to be the personal assistant to somebody who was then a relatively unknown professional footballer; she could have never imagined that this is where sheâd be 5 years later. Y/N had joined Mason Mountâs team just as he had joined Derby County on lone and due to the fact that the man had just moved to a brand-new city away from all of his friends and family, the pair quickly bonded and developed a relationship that became more than one of an employer and his employee; they actually became friends. So, when Mason moved back to Chelsea at the end of his loan and they gave him the chance to upgrade to an assistant with much more experience working with premier league football players, he turned it down; likewise, when Y/N was scouted by another footballer who was offering more money and better hours, she also turned it down. They were happy. They were friends, maybe even best friends. Why then did Y/N consistently feel like something was missing? For months she couldnât put her finger on it, couldnât understand why she wasnât completely happy, it wasnât until one day when they were sat having one of their infamous movie nights that she understood what it was she was feeling. Despite Mason living in a penthouse apartment in the middle of London worth millions of pounds, their movie nights always took place at her flat, a much smaller one-bedroom place in, to put it bluntly, a much rougher area of the city. They would sit together on her sofa and put on a movie, (usually a cheesy late 90âs to early 2000âs romcom). And one day, she found herself watching Mason rather than the movie; she watched him watching the movie intently, giggling at the funny bits, tearing up at the sad bits, and she realized that she loved him. Â
Every so often she thought that she should maybe put some space between herself and the footballer, to try and move on from her feelings for him, but then he would do something that would reel her back in, something that would make her think that maybe she had a chance. He would fall asleep cuddling her on the couch, he would dance a little bit too close to her at a party, he would seek her out after winning a big game and hug her so tightly she couldnât breathe. But then she would overhear him telling Ben and Reece about his latest conquest or she would get a text message from him 15 minutes before he was due to come to hers for a movie night cancelling because he had a date. To put it plainly, she simply just did not know where she stood with her best friend. Despite sometimes feeling like there could be a chance of more between them, she never said a thing to Mason, valuing their friendship too much to risk it; so instead she just went about her life, following her best friend and the man she loved around the country, always hiding how she truly felt, or attempting too at least. There had been a few times when she was spending time with Mason and his friends, that one of them would catch her looking at Mason. There was one time when Ben actually asked her about it, asked if there was anything going on between the two friends, she had told him that there wasnât, of course, but she could tell from his facial expression that he didnât believe her. Truth be told, a lot of their mutual friends were worried about the two of them.Â
So, when Mason and Y/N walked into the club together despite living in completely different areas of the city, Ben and Reece exchanged a look, wondering how their teammate could be so clueless. The rest of the night they watched the way the pair interacted; they watched the way that Y/N would look up at Mason with such love in her eyes whilst Mason looked at her like he would look at any other friend. They were caught between a rock and a hard place, they wanted to tell Mason what they knew so that he could stop leading her on, but they didnât want to betray Y/N by telling her secret. Even though she was Masonâs friend more than anyone else's, they both really liked her and wanted to protect her from the hurt that her situation with Mason would inevitably bring. But when they caught sight of Mason sat with his arm thrown around the shoulders of the girl, periodically leaning in and whispering in her ear, they knew that they needed to saw something; and when Y/N walked up to the bar and got chatting to somebody on the way back, Ben knew that this was his opportunity.Â
âMason why did you and Y/N come in together, arenât your places on opposite sides of the city?â Ben asked his best friend already knowing the answer to his question. Despite the fact that Y/N worked for Mason as his assistant, the pair were close, very close; so when they arrived to the party in the same car, Ben didnât have to wonder too hard about the reason why. âOh, she was at mine for a movie night last night and she was too tired to go home so she stayed.â Mason told his friend matter-of-factly, not seeing what the issue was or why his friend in front of him looked so annoyed. Even if you took away the widely inappropriateness of an employer having his employee stay at his house, there was the small issue of the fact that Y/N was madly in love with Mason and had been for years now. As much as she tried her best to keep it hidden, the only person in their circle that didnât seem to know about it was Mason himself. Ben and Reece had a conversation a few days before, discussing whether they should tell Mason as from an outside perspective, even if it was unintentional, he did seem to be leading Y/N on; they both knew their friend extremely well, so they knew that he didnât have the same feelings that she had for him and they knew that if Mason knew the full story there are aspects of his relationship with her that he might change. Â
âLook mate,â Ben started, unsure of exactly what to say but knowing he needed to say something. âI think you should know that Y/N has feelings for youâ Masonâs brows furrowed, completely taken aback by his friends' blunt honesty. âWhat? No are you sure?â he asked him, truly hoping that he was mistaken or playing some kind of prank. âIâm 100% sure, itâs obvious to be honest with you mate. You can see it in her eyes when she looks at you, she really truly loves you. Having her stay at your place and being that close to her, itâs going to make her think that someday you two could be more than friends, so if thatâs not the case then you really need to reconsider doing things like that as it isnât fair on her. Y/Nâs a good girl, you know that she deserves to be happy.â Benâs words make Masonâs head spin. Y/N was more to him than just his employee, she was one of his closest friends, but he really didnât see her as anything but a friend. âOh, fuck Ben what should I do?â Mason asked with his brain completely frazzled at this point, 15 minutes ago he was feeling great, he had just had a great day with one of his best friends and then then he came to a party to blow off some steam after a very stressful week, but now it seemed like everything had come crashing down. âI think you need to speak to her, make it clear that you value her friendship but you donât see her as anything else, let her down gently.â he told Mason who simply nodded before starting to walk towards the girl in question who was at the bar talking to one of the other players girlfriends., the second Ben realized what he was trying to do he put a hand out to stop him from going over there, causing Mason to look back at him with a puzzled expression. âMaybe telling her right this minute isnât the best idea though mate, considering youâre in public. Not to mention the fact weâve all got that trip planned for the Spanish Grand Prix in a few days, maybe you should wait until after that. If things donât go well that could make the whole trip so awkward.â Ben pleaded at his friend, but he could see on Masonâs face that his words were going in one ear and out the other. âFine go, but be nice to her and you better not ruin the race for everyoneâ he relented, taking his arm off of his friend and letting him walk towards the unsuspecting girl. Â
âHey Y/N, can we talk?â Mason asked with no regard for the fact that she was already deep in conversation with somebody else. His bluntness combined with the pained look on his face made her recognize instantly that whatever he wanted to talk about wasnât likely to be lighthearted. She hesitantly followed the man as he gestured for her to come along to a quieter part of the bar. Before she could ask what was going on, Mason had already asked her a question that made her stomach sink - âDo you have feelings for me?â She had absolutely no idea how to answer his question, of course she knew the answer; she had been pining after him for years at this point, but she just wasnât ready for him to know that yet. âWill you please just answer my question?â he almost demanded, his harsh tone making her freeze. Looking up at her best friend with tear filled eyes she muttered the last thing he wanted to hear - âYesâ. Her voice was so faint that it didnât come out as anything more than a whisper but to Mason it was the loudest thing he had ever heard. Y/N had imagined having this conversation with Mason so many times, imagined herself finally telling him that she loved him but in all her fantasies, in all her daydreams, he had never flinched like he had done just now. âMason I -â she started but stopped in her tracks when she saw tears forming in her best friendâs eyes. âHow could you do this Y/N, why would you ruin our friendship like this?â he asked her in genuine disbelief. Mason watched the girl stood in front of him stumble over her words, clearly not expecting to be asked that question, before putting her almost full glass down on the table and running out of the bar.Â
In all of the daydreams she had had where Mason found out she loved him, he didnât react like that in any of them, even the ones where he told her he didnât reciprocate her feelings he was never that harsh, never that heartless. Y/N was nothing if not a realist, she truly didnât expect him to come to her and tell her that he had always loved him too but she at least thought he would try to be nice about it, try to protect her feelings as much as possible, tell her that no matter what they would always be friends. Instead, he basically told her that their friendship was over, and she was the one responsible. She didnât even have to wonder how Mason found out about it either, she knew Ben knew and she had also seen Mason and Ben talking moments before he came storming over to her. More than anything she just felt stupid; stupid for believing that somebody like Mason would ever love somebody like her, stupid for putting one of her most beloved friendships on the line over a schoolgirl crush, stupid for running away instead of explaining herself to him. Â
âY/N, are you okayâ she heard a voice come from above her, breaking her train of thought. She was sat on the floor outside the club, staring into space clearly lost in thought, looking certifiably insane. Looking up she saw Reece James stood before her. There was no question that Reece knew what had happened but even still Y/N wasnât sure if she should talk to him about it. Whilst she was closest to Reece out of all of Masonâs friends and teammates and she would consider him to be a friend, he was still Masonâs friend before anything else. There was also a good chance that anything she does tell him would be repeated to Mason. As if he could read her mind, he spoke again âYou know you can speak to me right, Iâm not going to tell anyone. Iâm sorry that Ben told him by the wayâ he sat down on the street next to her. âItâs okay I donât blame him; I understand that he wanted to protect his friendâ her words were met with Reece shaking his head, âNo actually I think he wanted to protect youâ he said causing her brows in confusion. âHe tho- We thought that the way he acted with you was a bit unfair, doing things that were giving you hope that you could be more than friends. Masonâs not a bad guy and he wouldnât do that stuff on purpose, so we wanted to make sure he knew what he was doing.â Y/N looked up at the man's face, his serious expression laced with sincerity; she could tell that he was telling the truth and that he and Ben truly cared about her and wanted to protect her from hurt. âThank you, Reece, make sure to tell Ben that Iâm not annoyed at him for saying anything.â Â
âOf course, I will. I know we only know you though Mason but youâre our friend as well okay, remember that.â He said before he threw his arm around her pulling her into a hug. âSo what do you think is going to happen now?â he asked her. âOh I really donât know, he seemed pretty mad at me. I think Iâll probably leave the Grand Prix this weekend though, give things a chance to cool offâ Â
âWhat no you canât do that, you love F1 and itâs your first opportunity to go to a race, you canât miss that because of him. Worst case scenario, go and stick with me. You canât give up those sweet paddock passes, what if you meet a cute driver eh?â he said jabbing his fingers into her sides playfully teasing her in an attempt to get her to smile. âIâll think about itâ she said, attempting to fight the smile on her face but to no avail. âYou going to come back in or are you going to head home? We probably look crazy sat out here like thisâ he asked her and she paused thinking about it, she thought about going back in and trying to talk to Mason, to try and fix everything. After a moment she shook her head âNo I think I should give him some spaceâ Recce nodded understanding her decision before walking over to a cab and giving them her address along with enough money in cash to cover her journey three times over. âYou get home safe okayâ she nodded before thanking him for being to kind to her tonight. Just before she had the chance to close the door he spoke again âY/N wait, are you going to be okay? I could call someone if you need?â Again, she found herself smiling at the care Reece had shown her. âNo, Iâll be okay, I always amâÂ
