I know Prema has had loads of drivers make F1 but the fact that 45% of todays grid once raced for them is nuts.

This week’s gp is very exciting! (By that i mean fp1 lmao)
Unfortunately I can’t find a livestream so I won’t be able to watch but I can’t wait to see how Ollie, Theo and the others will do:)
So much happened this week since freca ended… i’m still trying to realize the fact that Kimi will really step up into f2 and that Marta will be joining the freca grid for next season! Lorenzo leaving prema and freca wasn’t a surprise because he told us in Hockenheim but I’m still sad to see him leave:(
Anyway, let’s hope for an exciting weekend!

Some at the team knew he was the man for the job, but Charles Leclerc's procurement of a seat relied on a neat bit of manoeuvring in order for their boss to agree to a deal.
We're not talking here about the delay that followed Sergio Marchionne's death before Leclerc gained a 2019 Ferrari Formula 1 drive, rather his maiden season of car racing in the '14 Formula Renault ALPS series.
Fortec Motorsport engineer Martin Young knew all about the talents of the 16-year-old Monegasque driver.
"My background is in karting," he explains. "I used to work for the factory teams in Italy. I knew the drivers to watch from karting would be Max Verstappen, Ben Barnicoat and Charles Leclerc, and Fortec wanted to run teams in Eurocup, NEC and ALPS."
It's worth explaining here that in those days Formula Renault 2.0 operated as a pyramid structure, with the Eurocup at the top, and the Dutch-promoted Northern European Cup and Italian-run ALPS series as the base. Fortec was already established in Eurocup and NEC, but was venturing into ALPS for the first time.
"At the time it looked like Verstappen would be doing Eurocup, and we had Ben signed for NEC," continues Young. "I spoke to Jamie Dye [Fortec managing director] and said that if we wanted to move forward in ALPS we needed to get Leclerc.
"We did a test day at Motorland [Aragon] and we sort of lied about his times - we'd put Charles up against a lot of experienced drivers, so he was 1.2-1.3 seconds off - so that Richard [Dutton, team principal] would stay interested in giving him a bit of a deal. Richard was asking, 'Is he really good?', and we said, 'Yeah, we know he's really good.'"
Tumblr media
Barnicoat, now a factory McLaren GT racer, was already familiar with Leclerc - as a Racing Steps Foundation protege, he was part of the ART Grand Prix line-up in international karting in 2012 and '13, while Leclerc belonged (and still does) to the All Road Management stable of ART shareholder Nicolas Todt.
"I had two years as team-mate to him in karting," says Barnicoat. "The first year I was directly racing with him, and in the second he went into gearbox [KZ] karts. He was one of the best team-mates I ever had, if not the best. A great guy.
"That first year, Charles won the WSK series and I won the European championship - that was up against the likes of Verstappen, so the competition was extremely high. I feel sort of left out!
"He had a bit more track knowledge so in the first half of the year he was beating me, but then we pushed each other really hard and that worked for the team - we got a lot from that.
"Looking at how good he is, it's nice to know I beat him on occasions, to know that I had the talent and ability to do that."
Fortec was one of the teams that tested Verstappen, and was also eyeing a deal with another talented karter: George Russell, whose plan was to combine Renault ALPS with what was then BRDC Formula 4.
Russell, who now is on course to succeed Leclerc as Formula 2 champion, eventually joined Prema Powerteam for ALPS, but that deal fell over on the eve of the season and he secured a last-minute berth at Koiranen GP.
"We wanted George; we tried to sign him," says Dutton of what could have been a mighty line-up had Russell joined Leclerc. "But he signed for Prema and then [Lawrence] Stroll [who had taken a majority shareholding in Prema] stopped him from going there."
"Me and Charles were testing for Fortec," says Russell, "and at the same time Verstappen was there with Josef Kaufmann Racing, I think. We were in talks with Fortec, but we decided to sign with Prema."
Tumblr media
When it's pointed out what a mega line-up that would have been alongside Leclerc, Russell laughs: "In hindsight that could have worked out better for me than Koiranen. That [the late Prema split] put us in the shit a little bit, and three weeks before the first race I didn't have a deal. We took the gamble on Koiranen."
Autosport reminds Dutton of an awards evening over the 2013-14 winter when, asked about Russell, he said: "We've got someone even better - a lad from Monaco..."
"It was really quite a late deal," recalls Dutton. "He missed most of the winter-test programme. But you just knew he was the real deal. In and out of the car he knew what he wanted. In lots of ways he reminded us of Verstappen when we tested him."
Young confirms that the sum total of Leclerc's pre-season mileage was four days at Aragon, and two at Barcelona, before going straight into the pre-weekend test for the Imola opener.
"The first three race weekends his experience was a bit low," says Young, "but as soon as he got on the podium he was there every weekend.
Tumblr media
Leclerc went on to finish runner-up to the flying - and experienced - Nyck de Vries in the ALPS points, with two race wins at Monza under his belt, but perhaps the more impressive performances came in his three 'wildcard' outings in the Eurocup. The first was at Spa, one week before the Belgian track's ALPS round.
"He was 30th in qualifying at the Eurocup," says Dutton. "We changed everything - we couldn't understand what the hell was going on. One week later he qualified third for ALPS. That was really, really special."
In his next Eurocup outing, Leclerc took a fifth and a second at the Nurburgring, and in his final one he took a brace of seconds at the Hungaroring.
"I was looking after Matt Parry and Jack Aitken in Eurocup," says long-time Fortec driver coach Matt Howson. "I'd heard [Leclerc] was something maybe a bit special, but you hear that all the time, and wait until you see it yourself.
"Usually you understand the driving style straight away - what's good, what's bad - and the thing with Charles is it didn't matter whether there was understeer or oversteer, he seemed to deliver a lap time."
The cerebral approach of Leclerc and engineer Young frustrated Howson at the Nurburgring.
"He'd never seen the place, and there were only two 45-minute [test] sessions, and furthermore Martin was determined to try things on the car," says Howson.
"I said, 'Don't do it, leave him out'. He was last in the second session, and then he was P3 on the grid for the second race - that's unheard of in Eurocup [for a newcomer]. Renault is a very finicky formula, and it all has to come together to deliver results, but Charles seemed impervious to everything.
"Based on that first year, I knew he was a little bit special. Whenever he was tested in Eurocup, he defied his experience. That's a marker - that you can break all the accepted rules."
Talking about that Nurburgring episode, Young says: "That literally sums up Charles Leclerc. That year we were struggling in Eurocup, and I said I'd come in with Charles and we'd do some testing. Going into qualifying he'd never run new tyres, but he went from last to the front. Nothing ever fazed him."
Tumblr media
In Young's view, he also compared favourably to Lando Norris, who tested FRenault cars with Fortec in 2014 before his first steps into single-seaters: "I worked with Lando towards the end of the year, and Lando eventually got to the same point [as Leclerc] but needed a lot of testing, but Charles could just get in and drive. It was second nature to him."
Russell took a distant fourth in the ALPS standings, although he did claim the 2014 BRDC F4 title.
"With Nyck winning the championship it didn't make any sense to me, but I think at the time there were a few dodgy chassis around," he says. "When I tested Nyck's car it was extremely different in terms of characteristics. I wasted a season there, but it was character-building."
He also suffered from chicken pox that caused him to miss the Monza round, where Leclerc took his two wins.
"I didn't think it affected me at the time, but I struggled a bit for no reason in the following few F4 races," says Russell. "It was quite severe - I've still got some bad scars. I put my family off their dinner a few times!"
But Russell trumped Leclerc by joining Tech 1 Racing for the final Eurocup round at Jerez as a wildcard - and winning: "I got my self-confidence back a bit, jumped in that car and won."
Tumblr media
Both Russell and Leclerc had initially targeted a full season in Eurocup in 2015, but such were their reputations by the end of '14 that each went to the Formula 3 European Championship, Russell with Carlin, and Leclerc with Van Amersfoort Racing.
Fortec tried to hang on to Leclerc for F3. "We tried so hard to get him for F3, but we lost him to VAR," says Dutton. "We did some tests with him in the F3 car and he was straight on the pace. At Silverstone he was quickest of everybody there, and then we went to Valencia with him and we had a nightmare with mechanical issues. I think that didn't do us any good."
All who worked or raced with Leclerc agree about his qualities as a man.
"Of all the drivers in F1 who've come through us, Charles is the one who gets [guest] passes for the British Grand Prix," says Dutton. "He had Martin [Young] and Jamie [Dye] there this year the whole weekend, in Sauber hospitality. He's a proper guy."
"I still speak to Charles every week or so on various topics," adds Young, who attended Leclerc's initial grand prix free practice outings in 2016. "He's still exactly the same person."
Barnicoat, who is one of the drivers for the McLaren hot laps at F1 events, bumps into Leclerc regularly.
"When we raced against each other in Renault there was quite a lot of rivalry from what we'd had in karting," says the Briton, who added three 'wildcard' ALPS outings as direct team-mate to Leclerc to his title-winning NEC campaign.
"But it would have been nice to get more direct comparisons. In 2013, when we were in karting, I went to the grand prix with him in Monaco and stayed on his uncle's boat, and had a really good time. We spent a lot of time together, and although we were rivals we helped each other out. He was a good friend of mine and still is."
Leclerc is also resilient. "Jules Bianchi came to the Hungaroring Eurocup round to mentor him," says Howson, "and I understood then how close they were. After that incident [for Bianchi] and his father [who died in mid-2017], he's probably been tested off track more than anyone else, but it's not bled over into anything on track.
"He's incredibly mature. He's relatively introverted - he doesn't come in and make lots of noise, but he's polite, considerate and always looks you in the eye when he talks to you. It doesn't matter whether he's got loads of cameras on him, he'll always come over for a chat."
Russell, meanwhile, is "100%" sure that Leclerc will flourish at Ferrari.
"Charles is one of a handful of others I put in the best-of-the-best group," he says. "In my opinion he absolutely deserves his chance at Ferrari. He's got the speed and the talent, and I'm excited to see how he fares next year. I've no doubt that he will be competitive."

Article: LANCE STROLL ON F1’S FUTURE & THE NEW ASTON MARTIN VANTAGE
As always – article highlights under the cut with pics included, full one linked in title
Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team's Lance Stroll reflects on how far he's come, the team's current direction, and the new Vantage in an interview with BH.
The Canadian youngster emerged as the Italian F4 Champion with Prema Powerteam in 2014 before becoming Toyota Racing Series champion in 2015. A little later on at the 2015 FIA Formula 3 European Championship
Tumblr media
[FIA Formula 3 European Championship / Thomas Suer]
Lance Stroll would ink his page in history as the youngest Formula 1 rookie to ever record a podium finish (P3) at the 2017 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. And at the 2020 Turkish Grand Prix, he’d earn his maiden F1 pole position. To date, he’s collected 285 career points across 155 race weekends.
Stroll has had the good fortune of partnering with elite-calibre veterans, four-time champ Sebastian Vettel and two-time champ Fernando Alonso, during their respective tenures at Aston Martin F1. So what exactly has he learned studying at the proverbial feet of these world-beating masters?
“From Seb, I learnt a lot about how to go about a weekend,” Stroll explains.
“He was very detail orientated; he wanted to know every little detail behind any decision. He also did a lot for the sport over the years, which I really respect.”
“Fernando teaches us all about passion and motivation. That’s what makes Fernando who he is. Like all great athletes, he’s constantly pushing himself to get better every day.”
Posed with the hypothetical scenario of being able to partner any driver in history — apparently something F1 athletes get asked “a lot” but not something they ever really think about — he replied:
“Growing up, I was a huge fan of Michael Schumacher. I used to get up super early in Canada to watch him race against my current teammate, Fernando. So, I think I’d go Michael.”
Aston Martin F1 is in a crucial transition stage. One that could inform its success as a constructor for coming half decade.
“It’s like you said, we’re in this building stage and there’s such a lot to be excited about right now,” offers Stroll when I prompt him.
“This is a team that is really pushing hard, and it’s an amazing thing to be a part of. We have the Honda partnership from 2026, a state-of-the-art campus with a new wind tunnel, we’re working on our own gearbox… There’s so much to be positive about.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“The goal has always been to build a team that’s capable of fighting for — and winning — World Championships. That’s a goal that I really believe in, and one that I want to help the team achieve.”
Tumblr media
If there’s one statement Lance Stroll wanted to make about both himself as professional driver and Aston Martin as a brand… what would it be?
“We’re doing things with focus, dedication, attention to detail. Aston Martin is a 111-year-old brand and it’s part of British, and international, culture. We want to uphold that tradition and quest for excellence by creating a Formula 1 team that represents the very best.”
“I’m proud to play a part in that, and I’ve been incredibly excited by the progress we’ve made and the developments that have been coming to turn us into a team that can represent one of the greatest brands in the world on the global stage.”

My Mysterious Darling
Ollie Bearman x fem!reader
From this request
Summary: You were working as a PR intern at F2,And you've been secretly dating Ollie for the past few months. After Ollie won the BritishGP and took the podium, you were commissioned to interview him.Ollie couldn't help but talk about his secret girlfriend...
A/n: not edited writing...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You were very excited to get a job as a public relations intern in Formula 2. The first few months went very well, even shocking yourself, you started dating one of the Formula 2 drivers.Ollie Bearman from Prema Powerteam was the kindest and most loving person you've ever met, but because of your careers, you both decided to hide your relationship for the first few months.
Ollie was on the podium at BritishGP you were proud of him.But because of your job, you watched the podium on TV because you were busy arranging post-race interviews.Your friend came to the interview area with you to ask questions to the drivers.
When it was Ollie's turn, you pressed the file in your hand to your chest and smiled at him from behind the cameraman,he also smiled at you even though he looked a little stressed. He started to answer questions and became more comfortable as he spoke.
"Thank you to Prema, the fans, my family and my girlfriend of course for supporting me. She said she would get me a smoothie from the F1 paddock if I got a podium, so I'm really looking forward to it." you smiled involuntarily at what he said and looked at the ground shyly.
Your friend spoke in bewilderment "Oh what? I didn't know before that you already have someone. She must be so proud of you, lucky her!" you bite your lip and start looking around.
"Yeah but I think I'm more lucky to be with her." You could feel your cheeks starting to heat up,Ollie was looking at you but seemed to be speaking to the camera because you were standing behind the camera.
"I hope you get your smoothie, I wish you both happiness. I'm sure after this interview, fans will start to wonder about this person as much as we do." Ollie smiled and looked at your friend."I know she will keep her word, and thank you for your good wishes" Ollie winked at you as he left and pointed at his phone before anyone could see it.
You looked at your phone and saw his message

You put your phone in your pocket laughing, you were supposed to go get him a smoothie.

It was the final race of the 2017 formula 3 season and they were at the famous Hockenheim track. The drivers, clad in their brightly colored suits, were seated in their cars, helmets on, eyes focused on the race ahead of them. The lights blinked on, one by one, signaling the final countdown. The crowd held its breath as the lights turned from red to green, and the engines roared to life. Tires screeched as the cars leaped off the line, jostling for position. Casey had started in 5th but made up one place at the start when Callum Ilott, second on the grid, lost momentum after what seemed like a decent initial launch, and plummeted to sixth by the time the field reached Turn 2. She then made a pass on Jake Hughes for third place into the hairpin on lap two, the Midlander unable to defend as strongly as he had in Saturday’s second race. In another lap she was passing Zhou for second, and was 2.7s behind the Prema Powerteam of Gunther, who, unlike her, had two new tyres left for this race from his weekend allocation. Gunther inched out a couple of tenths more to his advantage before a full-course yellow was called on lap seven – Ferdinand Habsburg had misjudged his car positioning in a jostling midfield bunch into the Sachskurve, and was launched over the rear wheel of Juri Vips and into the barriers according to her race engineer. She tried like hell to catch him but just wasn’t able, leaving her crossing the finish line in second place. On the podium, Gunther stood proudly in the center, a broad smile on his face as the national anthem played. Casey, though disappointed, congratulated him with a handshake and a smile. Zhou completed the podium and the three of them sprayed their celebratory drink and stood together, their achievements celebrated. Lando had won the championship with 441 points but with a mere 5 points between her and Gunther she had managed second place in the championship. It had been a tough year but Casey was moving up to formula 2 next year. She had never thought that she’d get the chance to prove herself like this and it really was all thanks to Kimi Räikkönen taking a chance on her. After he had asked if she still wanted to race and she said yes he got to work, having her travel with him for the remainder of 2016’s races, helping her train to get into an open wheel vehicle and securing her several sponsorships among his own.
In all, the 2018 season of Formula 2 did not go how she wanted it to go. It started off pretty decently actually, it was monumental that she was the first woman to drive in the series. With a second place in Bahrain’s feature race behind Lando, her team mate at Carlin, and a third place in the sprint race but then she was disqualified the following race in Baku. Then the day before she was set to fly to Barcelona she got news her mom was in the hospital again and this time it was looking to be fatal. Her team understood and allowed her to fly back to the U.S to be with her. She watched the race from there as Lando did well in both races and earned himself P3. Her mom was gone a mere two days after that. Safe to say she also missed the Monaco race. She came back for the France race, with much support from her friends and family, ending the sprint race in 6th but doing much better with a P2 in the feature race. She had to then retire early in the Silverstone races, something was off with the car.  She did ok in Hungary and at Spa she had a not so good sprint race but managed a P2 in the feature race. Following that was Monza and Sochi and she did decently in the sprint getting P3 and P2 but her feature races lacked pace with a P7 and P5 respectively. Her final races of the season in Abu Dhabi were not good, she stalled during the first start of the feature race and ultimately ended up a miserable P16. The sprint race went better but still not the best with a P10. She ended up in 6th place in the championship and was not going to be advancing to Formula 1. She was however picked up by a new team for the next season, BWT Arden, and she was excited for it, being the team's first woman driver in history.
Casey started the 2019 season of Formula 2 with great results, winning the feature race in Bahrain and earning a P3 for the sprint race and she attributed much of it to the testing she did for Alfa Romeo’s F1 team and the experience she gained from it. Baku afforded her another sprint race win and Barcelona a win in the feature race. Monaco unfortunately was not as kind to her, hardly getting any points but she still celebrated with her teammate and friend (whom she had grown fairly close to) Anthonie when he won the sprint race. Moving on to France, she did much better than Monaco with a P5 feature race and a P6 during the sprint. Anthonie again won the sprint race, which meant a lot to him as it was his home race. In Austria she DNF’d the feature race after a wreck in the first lap, and was P17 in the sprint. Anthonie did well though with a P4 but only managed a P16 in the sprint. She had several eyes on her from the Formula 1 paddock for Silverstone, such as Christian Horner and some of the Red Bull Racing executives. She had done well in qualifying which then translated to her winning the feature race, which was infinitely much better than the previous year's race, and settling for a decent P5 in the sprint race. Afterwards when she stood with Kimi and her manager talking about the race and upcoming plans they were approached by Horner and Marko. They offered her the opportunity to join their junior program, a track with a likely advancement into formula 1. After much deliberation, having her lawyers and Kimi’s lawyers look over the contract and ensuring she wouldn’t be screwed over she signed it at last. She did a bunch of promotional stuff and sim work following that, joining them in the garage as a guest in Germany for Hockenheim. The next weekend was the Hungarian GP, where she got second in the feature race and P4 in the sprint. Anthonie was ecstatic for her, always the first to congratulate her, despite his string of not so good races.
There was quite a bit of hype following her into the race weekend at Spa. The media had taken to considering it her home race (though she raced under the American flag) due to her dual citizenship. She wasn’t starting in the best position, 10th after an interrupted qualifying and someone else's penalty. She tightened her grip on the steering wheel, the starting lights began to illuminate one by one. She took a deep breath as adrenaline flooded her system. The anticipation was almost unbearable. The lights went out, and a thunderous roar erupted as the cars launched off the grid. Tires screeched, and the machines darted forward with incredible speed, slicing through the track in a symphony of precision and power. She made a quick jump up two places into 8th and by the time she was starting her second lap she was in 7th. The next thing she knew there was a yellow and a then red flag. “Red flag. Red flag. There were several collisions involving multiple cars at the Raidillon corner behind you,” Jay, her race engineer, informed her. “Is everyone ok?” she asked worriedly. “We don’t know yet,” he told her after several long seconds. She sent a quiet prayer up to whoever was listening, hoping everyone would be ok as she brought her car to a stop in the pit lane and the mechanics brought it into the garage before allowing her to climb out. She saw Anthonie’s car wasn’t in the garage beside her and looked worriedly over at the pit wall. “Can someone please tell me what’s going on? What happened?” Jay quickly crossed the lane from the pit wall and took her aside, ushering her back to one of the small private rooms in the garage.
“I’m going to explain this very technically and if you need me to stop I will,” he tells her sternly and Casey nods her understanding. “Giuliano Alesi was running tenth when he spun into the barriers while going through Eau Rouge, damaging the rear of the car and bouncing back onto the circuit at the exit of the corner. Ralph Boschung, Anthoine and Jordan King had been running eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth at the time and took evasive action. Boschung cleared Alesi's Trident by taking to the tarmac run-off on the outside of the corner and King was able to slow in time to avoid contact. Anthonie attempted to go to the right of Boschung, but made contact with the Trident's right-rear wheel, puncturing Boschung's tyre and causing him to lose his front wing. His car continued along the run-off and crashed into a tyre barrier with the front and right side of the car. The car snapped around and was sitting at an angle that was perpendicular to the racing line, but it remained on the tarmac run-off area. Correa, who had been fourteenth at the time, was on the approach to Eau Rouge as Alesi lost control. He hit a piece of debris which lodged under a front wheel, preventing his car from steering effectively and causing it to go straight into the tarmac run-off where Anthonie had been. The force of the collision was enough to tear his car in half-” He was interrupted by her gasping as she shook her head, bringing a hand to her mouth. “No. no. no. stop.” Jay nodded, simply moving to bring the young woman into his arms, holding her tightly as her body began to shake. They had worked quickly, transporting him to the nearest hospital but it was announced an hour and half after the accident that Anthonie had succumbed to his injuries and Correa was critical but stable. The F2 races were canceled out of respect and the motorsport community was in mourning.
There was a minute of silence observed before the Formula 3 and Formula 1 races at Spa the next day. Casey lost count of how many people told her they were sorry, that Anthonie was a good man. It was a stark reminder to all of the drivers that what they do is dangerous. She had spent that night with Pierre in the hotel, the two of them mourning for their friend but also remembering the fun times they had shared as the three of them had gotten close over the last year or so. A few of the other drivers had stopped by earlier in the night to talk with them, checking in and sharing stories. She spent pretty much all of that Sunday in the Red Bull teams garages, or hospitality with Pierre. Before the start of the race, all the safety vehicles, safety car, medical car, track inspection car, ambulance, car recovery vehicles, etc. made a lap on the track as a tribute to Anthonie and it was nice to see how fast they had created a sticker of the number 19 inside a star and the words "Racing for Anthoine". Charlie won his first grand prix that day and dedicated it to Anthonie.
After his funeral nine days later, which saw many from the greater motorsport community attend, BWT Arden announced that they would only enter one car for the round at Monza. The team went on to prepare a car for Anthonie, which was then left in the garage as a mark of respect. Casey didn’t do well during those races, earning herself a P13 and a P10. Tatiana Calderón was named as his replacement for the final two rounds of the championship in Sochi and Abu Dhabi. Where she was assigned the number 22. It was awesome having another woman driving beside her, and they got along well. Matevos Isaakyan replaced the injured Correa at Charouz for the final races. In Sochi she came back much stronger, with a P2 and P4. She traveled to Japan with Kimi and the Alfa Romeo team, as she wanted to discuss her future with him. She was approached about being brought into Formula 1 at Toro Rosso in 2020, which would actually become AlphaTauri in the new year. Of course he encouraged her to go for it, after of course looking over the contract himself. She joined Red Bull in their garages at the remaining three races before Abu Dhabi, even being released and allowed to participate in a free practices in Pierre’s Toro Rosso car. With her future secured she went into the season's final race and managed a P7 in the feature and a P2 in the sprint race, which meant she placed second overall in the championship. Later at the FIA Formula 2 Championship prize-giving ceremony in Monaco the Anthoine Hubert Award was introduced. The award is given to the highest-placed driver without previous Formula 2 experience and the inaugural recipient of the Anthoine Hubert Award was Zhou. It was overall a bittersweet season for her but she was ready for the challenges that would come next.

Charles Leclerc will contest the 2015 FIA European F3 Championship with Van Amersfoort Racing.
The 17-year-old driver won numerous high-profile trophies throughout his karting career, including the WSK Euro Series KF2, the CIK-FIA Academy Trophy and the CIK-FIA KF3 World Cup.
He entered Formula Renault Alps for his car racing debut in 2014 and finished second behind the experienced Nyck de Vries, collecting two Monza victories in the process. Meanwhile, guest appearances in the Eurocup saw him achieve three runner-up finishes in a row.
Originally tipped for a full-time Eurocup promotion, Leclerc ended up focusing on F3 during the pre-season, testing with Prema Powerteam, Fortec Motorsports, Carlin and Van Amersfoort Racing before ultimately signing with the latter.
“I’m very happy to join Van Amersfoort Racing and the highly rated FIA F3 European Championship for this season,” stated Leclerc. “The team and I have an exciting challenge ahead of us. Following the test I did last December in Valencia, I really look foward to working with such an experienced and successful squad.”
“The FIA F3 European Championship produced great champions in the past, so i think it’s the best place for me to keep growing as a driver.”
The Dutch team had a strong season in the championship last year, playing a big part in Max Verstappen’s headline-grabbing debut season in cars.
“It is our privilege to welcome Charles at our team,” reckoned Frits van Amersfoort. “He impressed us with his performance in karting and in the ALPS championship, by securing the vice-championship in his first year in single-seaters at just 17.”
“Charles has the raw speed and race craft to play a prominent role in the FIA F3 European Championship. It is our challenge to give him the tools to be successful from the very beginning.”
Karting star Alessio Lorandi has been strongly linked to join Leclerc in the squad. Van Amersfoort Racing is expected to field up to four cars in 2015, but the names of the remaining drivers are yet unknown.
