A/N ~ I think Tenjo is such an underrated villain. Her backstory makes me so sad.
~~~🪭~~~🪭~~~🪭~~~
~ When Tenjo has a crush on you, she acts like she doesn’t care. But I’m the inside, everything you do makes her heart explode. Thank goodness her skin is red, otherwise her blush would be so obvious.
~ She’s also very insecure. The aliens back on her planet shunned her because of the way she looks, so she constantly has the feeling that she’s not enough. She’s scared that you think the same way about her, even though you’ve been nothing but kind. Because of this, you’ll have to be the one to confess.
~ Before you confirmed that you don’t care about the length of her nose, Tenjo would always wear her mask around you. Even though the beauty standards on Earth are different from her’s, it still brought her a sense of comfort. It wasn’t until you two got together that she finally got the courage to take it off.
~ She still doesn’t know much about humans, so there will always be things about you that surprise her or that she needs to get used to. For example, your ears. She’s always looking at and touching them. Their roundness is just so strange to her.
~ Teach her about Earth! She doesn’t admit it, but she’s very curious. She’s most interested in how different humans look from one another. On Tenjo’s planet, Guten. Everyone looks very similar. She likes how on Earth, humans come in different shapes, sizes and colors!
~ Tenjo loves trying on new clothes and makeup with you. She wants to learn about the fashion trends on your planet, and of course, introduce you to the ones on hers.
~ Her love language is definitely words of affirmation. Like I said before, Tenjo is very insecure. She needs constant reminders that you love her, and that you think she’s beautiful. If you’re also insecure, she does the same thing. She doesn’t want you to ever feel the same way she did. She’ll compliment the parts of you that you don’t like, hoping to make you feel more confident.
~ While she’s happy to introduce you to her planet’s culture, she refuses to bring you there. Human’s noses are much smaller than what’s considered “beautiful” there. She doesn’t want you to be made fun of like she was.
~ Not super affectionate in public. She’ll hold your hand, and give you pecks on the cheek or lips, but that’s about it. When your alone though, she’ll cuddle you and give you deeper kisses. She secretly loves it when you kiss her nose. She also blows you kisses all the time.
~ Please teach Tenjo human slang and how to use it correctly. When you first met, she constantly used slang from her planet, confusing the heck out of you. Then, she used what she thought was correct human slang. When you, once again, didn’t understand, she pretty much gave up. But if you teach her, she’ll be so happy that she gets to further connect with her favorite Earthling!
This is part of commentary I write as I watch the show. DO NOT tell me whether or not the things I speculate on actually happen
(As of writing this, I am just now finishing Episode 9)
One thing I really hope happens later on is that eventually whatever the Notrayder leader’s name is catches onto the fact that all Airwan ever does is practically hand Pens over to the Precures, risking the fate of the kingdom just for experiments that only yield failure after failure, and kicks her out
Furthermore I’d also just like more infighting among the Notrayder commanders. Kappard and Tenjo clearly hate each other and both hate Airwan, who hates them back, and there’s a lot of unused potential for them more actively beefing with each other
Star Twinkle Precure watch guide
A list of episodes that let you know which episodes are less interesting and skippable.
I have to say this season was overall very engaging compared to most other Precure seasons; as a result there's not going to be a lot of skips here. The main issue with this season is episode 36, which I'll discuss under the read more (will contain spoilers).
Plot is bolded. Recommended filler (character development or background -oriented) is italicized. Skippable episodes grouped in block quote.
1 — Cure Star
2 — Cure Milky
3 — Taurus Pen (+ Hikaru/Lala development)
4 — Cure Soleil
5 — Cure Selene
6 — Leo Pen (Lala focus)
7 — Repairing Spaceship
8 — Libra Pen (Elena & Prunce focus)
9 — Capricorn Pen (Madoka focus)
10 — Villain powerup (Hikaru focus)
11 — New Finisher (Hikaru focus)
12 — The girls make a movie (Lala/Hikaru focus + Comedic)
13 — Lala goes to school (Lala focus, also good context for the next ep)
14 — Scorpio Pen (Elena focus)
15 — Capricorn Pen + Blue Cat Entrance (Madoka focus)
16 — Madoka’s Archery Finals (Madoka focus) This episode isn’t bad but basically rehashes the same lesson in episode 9 that shows Madoka embracing her friends as her support. Don't worry, she gets a really good episode later.
17 — Virgo Pen (Yuni focus)
18 — Hikaru’s mom the mangaka (Hikaru focus)
19 — Gemini Pen & Planet Rainbow (Yuni focus)
20 — Cure Cosmo
21 — Cure Cosmo part 2 & Aries Pen
22 — Tanabata & Hikaru’s dad (Hikaru focus)
23 — Fuwa Panic (Yuni + Elena focus)
24 — Aquarius Pen (Madoka + Yuni focus)
25 — Festivities (Yuni + Lala focus)
26 — Pajama Party in Space
27 — Water Planet (Yuni + Ayewan focus)
28 — Fixing the Rocket (Elena/Madoka focus)
29 — Cancer Pen part 1 (Lala + Madoka focus)
30 — Cancer Pen part 2 (Lala focus)
31 — Pisces Pen (Hikaru focus)
32 — New Finisher
33 — Fuwa wants to be useful
34 — Elena guides a cactus alien (Elena focus)
35 — Student Council Election (Hikaru focus)
36 — “But Stealing Is Always Bad Even When You Were Stolen From First :(” (Yuni focus) This episode is. Oof. I disagree very much with the politics of it. Check the read more for spoilers and discussion.
37 — Costume Party (Kappard + Lala focus)
38 — Cosmo Twinkle Imagination (Yuni + Ayewan focus)
39 — English Speech Contest (Elena + Tenjo focus)
40 — Milky Twinkle Imagination (Lala + Kappard focus)
41 — Selene Twinkle Imagination (Madoka focus)
42 — Soleil Twinkle Imagination leadup (Elena + Tenjo focus)
43 — Soleil Twinkle Imagination (Elena + Tenjo focus)
44 — Christmas (Covers Elena’s decision for her future + cool fight in the sky)
45 — Star Twinkle Imagination (Hikaru focus)
46 ~ 49 — Finale
Below is reasons for my issues with ep 36: ↓
So this episode unfortunately falls into the pitfalls of false equivalency that we often see in media, namely the idea that if you do something against your oppressors you're as bad as they are. The other issue is that Yuni's whole situation tracks very closely as a metaphor for indigenous survival against colonialism and genocide, which makes this episode even worse. To top it off, we also have a cop character who wants to capture her that is basically posed as morally good because "stealing is bad" is their overall message.
"Stealing is bad" is a moral that you would expect to find in a kid's show for sure, but when paired with the history of genocide it translates terribly.
Recall that:
Yuni's original culture is the only one inhabiting her home planet, which they came to after being chased away from other planets. In other words, they are historically a persecuted minority.
Yuni is the only current survivor of genocide against her planet by colonial forces Notraider (who specifically say they want to take over all planets and milk them for their resources).
The Notraiders (through Ayewan) then stole all of her culture's artifacts and then put them on the black market
The black market is run by the Mafia
Auctions are held for the equivalent of billions of dollars (juu oku in yen), and there are billionaires. Which implies space capitalism and the plundering of other planets in general. Billionaires do not exist without the mass accumulation of wealth, and there are slums mentioned which Yuni donates to.
Yuni's culture's items have been stolen from her people and sold against their will. Yet, for some reason, if she's to steal them back, that's just as bad as the original plundering of her planet. This is simply false equivalence. Hikaru insists that she needs to ask for her items nicely back from the mafia, of all things (if they're the mafia they're in the business of killing people for money. Hikaru, hello?). To further this kids' moral, Yuni is reduced to begging for her culture's item back from the mafia boss, even promising to pay for it. Why should she have to pay for something that he shouldn't even own to begin with? It's just disrespectful on all levels.
Meanwhile, Hikaru, who lives in Japan, is part of a colonialist legacy herself who have similarly stolen land from indigenous people as well as their artifacts. All over the world, in the United States, and in Japan, governments in power have plundered indigenous graves for cultural remains and items and have not returned them despite repeated petitioning from said indigenous groups. Basically, asking nicely in the real world takes forever and forces indigenous groups to jump through 239480 hoops, all the while subjecting them to continuous destruction of their heritage. Yet the violence of them being taken in the first place is never questioned; it is accepted, while indigenous groups are demonized for standing up, trying to protect their lands.
Honestly, this episode was really bad. Its only saving grace is that Yuni says she won't stop traveling to get her items back, though it's unclear if she's planning to ask for them "nicely" back every time. Frankly, she should be allowed to steal them back. The billionaires who paid millions of dollars for the artifacts won't miss the money — the dragon guy sure didn't. Yuni is literally Robin Hood, and she doesn't even amass her own wealth; she takes back her cultural items and donates anything else she takes from rich people to the poor. I'm sorry, but this isn't even morally grey. She's doing everything right. The dog cop character is convinced Yuni needs to be locked up... why? Is this really the best use of the interstellar police forces' time rather than fighting than the Notraiders? It's not like any of them showed up to investigate what happened to Yuni's planet afterwards. She has literally gotten nothing from them and is being demonized for crimes against the market.
Anyway, given that it's a kid's show, at least Yuni's people are restored in the end, and by Ayewan herself as a form of a reparations. Since Ayewan undid everything she did (this would be impossible in real life) and worked to help Yuni's people afterwards, the rest of the Yuni / Ayewan plot gets a pass in my mind (even though that also runs on false equivalence). It's really just this one episode that is a mess because it refuses to deal with the structural oppression that exists and that Yuni is fighting against.
It's a shame, really, since otherwise Star Twinkle is a very solid show whose themes of embracing individuality and difference between people is incredibly powerful. Hikaru herself is great in every other episode other than this one, and wonderfully neurodivergent. So anyway, here's your warning for episode 36. Recommended skip if you don't want to spend your time fuming.
CROSSCANONS: Is your mom voiced by a Precure? (Precure x Love Live)
Upon confirmation of Yukana being another Precure veteran to voice a mom in the Love Live to one of the school idols (Lanzhu, of all people), it reminds me of the other Precure seiyuus who lent their voices to other Love Live mothers.
==Let's start at the beginning with Muse.==
Honoka Kousaka
Honoka's mom is voiced by Masumi Asano (Minami Kaido/Cure Mermaid). Asano still had credit for the LL! movie, when Go! Princess Precure was midway through the season.
Kotori Minami
Believe it or not, Kotori's mother is voiced by a well-known voice actress [Noriko Hidaka] who had a supporting role in the Precure franchise. In Suite Precure, Hidaka played Aphrodite, Cure Muse's mother. Kinda fitting, don't you think?
Maki Nishikino
Maki's mother, voiced by Kikuko Inoue, has a few roles in Precure, but Benigyo (from Maho Tsukai) is the most well-known of the three.
Nico Yazawa
(I have to mention her or else I'd be punished in the name of the moon. No, literally. Nico's mom is voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi.)
Mitsuishi provides the voice of Hummy, the mascot from Suite Precure.
Eli Ayase
While her mother is never seen in the series, her grandmother makes an appearance. She is voiced by Fumi Hirano, who had a minor role in Star Twinkle Precure (that being Lala's mother).
==Moving on, let's get into Aqours.==
Chika Takami
Rie Kugimiya voices Chika's mother, who previously was involved with DokiDoki! Precure as Madoka Aguri/Cure Ace and the Yes! Precure 5 movie as Dark Lemonade.
Riko Sakurauchi
Riko's mother is voiced by singer and voice actress, Nana Mizuki. Prior to Sunshine, she was Tsubomi Hanasaki/Cure Blossom in Heartcatch! Precure.
Yohane Tsushima
Yohane's mother, voiced by Hekiru Shiina, also voices Madoka's mother in Star Twinkle Precure.
Mari Ohara
Mari's mother is voiced by Akiko Yajima. In Futari wa Precure, she is credited as Mipple, Honoka's partner.
==Nijigaku==
Setsuna Yuki
The voice behind Setsuna Yuki's mother, Ryoko Shiraishi, had a minor role in both Smile Precure and Heartcatch! Precure.
Kanata Konoe
Yuko Minaguchi provided the voice for Kanata's mother. She was the seiyuu behind both Dark Mint in the Yes! Precure 5 movie and Flora from Yes! Precure 5 GoGo.
Lanzhu Zhong
As mentioned in the beginning of this post, Lanzhu's mother has been confirmed to be voiced by Yukana. She is best known as Honoka Yukishiro/Cure White in Futari wa Precure.
==Liella==
Kanon Shibuya
Kanon's mother is played by Mamiko Noto, who also voiced Ayumi Sakagami/Cure Echo in the Precure All Stars New Stage movies.
Ren Hazuki
Ren's mother is voiced by Aya Endo. She also voiced Tenjo in Star Twinkle Precure.
Kinako Sakurakoji
Ikue Otani, the voice behind Candy from Smile Precure, is credited as Kinako's mother.
For the meantime, this is every canon LL mother with a literal CV. It is unknown, to my knowledge, if Hasunosora has any yet to be mentioned. Hopefully you enjoy learning something different today!
Til next time, here's to the end of the summer and the start of fall weather, endless pumpkins, and-- OKAY LET ME JUST SAY I'M DESPERATE TO GO PURCHASE A RIKO NESOBERI TO FINISH MY AQOURS NESO COLLECTION.
Rating the Seasons - Star Twinkle
This is the 4th season of precure I have watched and rated. I have tried my best not to include spoilers but tread with caution. So far this is my favourite precure season. It will definitely be hard to beat this one but I'm excited to see what else precure has in store for me.
Plot: 9/10
So far I like the plot, it is reminiscent of max heart as they have a life to protect and 12 things to collect
I find having things to collect helps the show feel like it is progressing
I love the aliens and cryptids as well
It feels like they finished the main plot too quickly and they’re just adding extra stuff to get the full 49 episodes
However I do like how twinkle imagination helps wrap up their character development
Last episode was chefs kiss
love the cameo at the end
love the peak into the future
Cures: 9/10
Cure Star (Hikaru)
I think she is super adorable
I love how positive she is
She’s creative and imaginative
I think her made up outer-space themed words are fun
Cure Milky (Lala)
I think it is so cool to have an alien as a cure
I enjoy her character development a lot
I like her transformation outfit but wish she had a dress instead of bloomers
I love her relationship with her personal AI
Cure Soliel (Elena)
I think it is so awesome that she’s a person of colour
I like how her transformation outfit has a mexican feel to it
I resonate with her character as an older sibling and having to care for them
Cure Selene (Madoka)
I feel bad for her character a lot being stifled by her father
I think it’s super cool that she’s into archery
I hope she learns to not be such a perfectionist and to create her own path in life instead of doing whatever her father wants
Cure Cosmo (Yuni)
I think it is pretty cool that her character became a precure
I did see it coming however
I get the thought behind her outfit, blue cause she’s a blue girl but also rainbow because of where she is from but I don’t think the outfit is very cohesive.
I think Cosmos character development has been pretty great too
Fairies: 9/10
I like how there aren’t as many fairies this season
It allows them to give fun personalities to the few that are there
Fuwa/Puff
They are adorable
I love when they transform into the different zodiacs
They’re a baby without being whinny like fairies in past seasons
Puff transforms and while I think they were cuter before I do think it’s cool that they’re growing as a character
I also like that puff gets new powers like warping and being part of an attack with the cures
Prunce/Plonk
He’s really funny
I love that he’s very alien looking
He’s got kinda a sarcastic vibe to him which I like
I also like how he can mould his body to be useful in different situations
Villains: 10/10
The first two villains are kinda whatever but I like Aiwarn
Haven’t seen too much of the boss yet
I know they want to collect all the princess pens to have power but I don’t think they’ve said what they want to use the power for other than evil in general
I think the story with Aiwarn and the Rainbow planet is very interesting
Master Darnest is pretty cool looking
I like that these Villains seem to be somewhat powerful as the cures have actually lost a battle to them
I’m enjoying that Kappard and Tenjo are being given backstories now as well.
I think it’s nice giving them things that explain how they became villains
I love the twist about Darknest
Love the redemption arch
Magical items: 9/10
This the first season so far where I actually like their transformation item
The pen is really creative and is like they are drawing on their transformation
I love wands as fighting weapons so that has been good as well
I hope that the cures develop another individual attack or two as they always do the same attacks which I find to be boring
I think their southern cross power is really fun though
Cosmo’s regular perfume that makes her shapeshift is pretty cool, I like how it leaves a smell that’s recognizable
Cosmo’s special perfume weapon however is okay, I’m not a big fan of perfume transformation items or weapons but I do like that it let out a hose of liquid and wasn’t just a spray?
Overall Rating: 9/10
I love the theme of outer-space and astrology
I love the colour palette and animation style to this season as well
Gotta admit, it’s very refreshing to witness an episode where everything, and I mean everything, goes so wrong for the Cures that they are forced to retreat.
The villain generals get a power up and they put that to good use, not only overwhelming the heroines with their usual tactics but taking advantage of their fatigue brought on by unfamiliar territory.
Then stealing not just one but two Princess Pens, further lowering their morale (poor Hikaru).
It’s not that we haven’t seen this kind of situation happen in Precure before because it did happen multiple times in past seasons.
But man, did the StarPre team have it rough all at once. Each blow to them came harder than the last. There was no way for them to win this one. They could only lose in order to regroup and come back to fight again.
Which serves as good build up to them obtaining the Twinkle Sticks next week so they can perform their first group attack but ouch, it’s not getting any easier until then.
Especially when…
They’ve been spotted by Madoka’s dad twice in the same day. When they left in the morning and when they came back (really girls, it’s about time you installed a stealth button for that ship).
Now the government knows for certain there’s a UFO hanging out in the woods somewhere.
And they’ll have to abandon it for the time being until it’s safe to come back to it again.
That is, if their ship hasn’t been taken away by the time they do go back.
I hope not. They spent so much time repairing and rebuilding it together. It’d break my heart if they lost that ship.
Also, no ship means no more space travel so NUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!
I wonder what anime Alex loves. I wonder what characters she loves too. I think she love the characters she sees herself in and relating too, but also I’d they have pink/green aesthetic she totally kins them! But think what a anime crushes she might have is hilarious because I Headcanon that if they are soft pretty boys she’s absolutely weak for them! She just likes them too pretty 🤩
I could see Alex liking opposite ends of the spectrum like super cute lighthearted stuff as well as extreme violence and gore. She’d watch shonen like Inuyasha, Soul Eater, FMA, and shoujo like Precure and Flip Flappers and Sailor Moon. She’d watch anime like Cowboy Bebop and Berserk and Evangelion and Revolutionary Girl Utena, and I KNOW he’d like Akira and Ghost in the Shell.
I think I said this before but I know for a FACT she kins Killua Zoldyck, and probably really likes Alluka as well since she’s a trans girl (or at least heavily coded as one)!! I could see her also getting a crush/gender envy on characters like Kagome Higurashi, Asuka Langley Soryuu, Ling Yao, Utena Tenjo, Maka Albarn, and Casca. Some of these characters deal with breaking gender roles like Utena and Casca and Chrona, so it’s also probably part of her trans revelation lol. I could definitely see her liking the pretty androgynous boy characters alongside the really headstrong girl characters, too. Alex would really like Tanjiro Kamado bc he’s a ray of sunshine and kinda GNC too 😭 and he likes the characters that other people would find annoying like he probably likes Karamatsu unironically sgdvfjcbdjsbsk
WRT Ed Elric I have this joke in my head that I don’t know how to draw but I feel like the second she sees Magnus and he’s thinking she looks like Loki, Alex is thinking he looks almost exactly like Edward Elric and she’s like FUCK he’s cute?? he looks like my favorite anime boy wtf 😭 and she’s so relieved to cut her hair in book 2 bc then he’ll stop looking the exact same lmaoooooo
#I hc that Alex is demi but she’d get fictional crushes and be like why can’t guys be like h ty et are in anime X( and then meets Magnus lol#alex fierro#magnus chase#mcga#riordanverse#me talking#ask
As you said your considering watching "Star Twinkle Pretty Cure" loke with Heartcatch plan too do reviews??
I just finished Episode 16 a few days ago, so I’m about a third of the way into the series. I’ll give my thoughts on it so far.
While I still prefer Tsubomi for her character development, I think Hikaru/Cure Star is a very likable lead with all of the energy she brings to the table. I like how she’s a shameless sci-fi nerd with her love for all things space, mainly constellations and aliens as shown in the first episode. She’s just so full of optimism and eagerness, she fills the role of leader well with how she can easily rally the other Cures. A good example of this was in one episode where Hikaru drew up a redesign for the team’s damaged rocket ship (which I’ll get to later) that the other Cures like so much, they manage to get the repairs done much quicker despite spending some time adding on accessories because of how motivated they are. This is a kind of character trait I really like seeing for leaders, being able to motivate the others to do things outside of the battlefield. Hikaru is just a really fun character so far, and is currently my favorite this season.
Lala/Cure Milky is also a really interesting character so far. Being an alien, most of her episodes deal with her getting to know the human race and its cultures, mainly through her friendship with Hikaru. She starts off more apprehensive to her situation on Earth, but does become more open to learning more. At the same time, this does lead to a flaw where she tends to blindly focus on pure logic and hates failure, much like a certain other alien primarily dressed in blue. There’s an episode where Lala transfers to Hikaru’s middle school and has a pretty bad first day with how little she understands the social protocol, and the next day, she relies on her AI to help her blend in more and understand to the point where she forces herself to stop using her verbal tic “-lun” at the end of her sentences. It shows how much she hates failure, and it says a lot about her character. She still manages to grow past this flaw a little, and I’m looking forward to seeing how else she develops in the series.
Elena/Cure Soleil is basically the big sister of the team kind of like Yuri from Heartcatch, though without the added baggage the latter had for most of her series. She’s referred to as “The Sun of Mihoshi Middle School” by the other characters. Really subtle there, writers. Granted, it’s referring to her friendly attitude towards her fellow students mixed with her athletic skills, which naturally draws a lot of students to admire and look up to her, even Hikaru. Unlike Itsuki, she’s much more relaxed around others and even asks Hikaru to stop referring to her as her sempai, especially since Hikaru has seniority over Elena as a Precure. She’s generally the more level-headed one of the team, and tends to rely on diplomacy more often, like when she diffuses an argument between Hikaru and Lala early on, and later helps to convince some aliens to hand over one of the MacGuffins/toy tie-ins, the Princess Star Color Pens peacefully after helping to defend their planet. From what I’ve heard, Elena and the fourth Cure were added to the show last-minute thanks to executives, but I think Elena fits in with the cast pretty well so far.
Likewise, Madoka/Cure Selene is referred to as “The Moon of Mihoshi Middle School” because she’s... high-class? Fancy? Rich? She’s basically meant to be a foil to Elena in some regards. While Elena is more lax and friendly, Madoka is more stoic and a bit of a perfectionist. While Elena has a happy relationship with her family, Madoka has a much more tense relationship with her father who hates aliens for no reason, and will take any chance he gets to remind the audience how much of an asshole he is. I think he’s running for the Worst Father in Animation Award after hearing Gabriel Agreste won it three years in a row. Madoka generally has the hardest time as a Precure because of how she has to keep it a secret from her xenophobic father, and seems to be struggling with her loyalty. This is mainly because I’m so sick of family drama from Miraculous, but Madoka’s character arc revolving around her relationship with her dad is honestly why she’s my least favorite out of the four.
Fuwa is nothing more than a plot device/cute thing to look at. I mean, at least the fairies in Heartcatch could actually speak in complete sentences, and not say their names like a Pokemon. Prunce is honestly a much more memorable character with his dialogue and plays the role as comic relief well.
I really like the villains so far. They’re all aliens based off Yokai and have their own approaches to the monster of the week formula. Kappard (a Kappa), is a vain warrior who tends to use the imaginations of others to create new weapons to use against the team. Tenjo (a Tengu), views her troops as pawns and uses the the imaginations of others to turn them into giant versions of the show’s grunts, the Nottorei. Aiwarn (a Hitotsume-kozo), is a trickster who uses corrupted Princess Star Color Pens to create the true monsters of the week, the Nottoriga, using the imagination of others. There’s also an Oni-themed alien who’s their boss, but he hasn’t really done much yet. Overall, these villains have some really creative motifs that I really want to see more of. It kind of reminds me of the movie Treasure Planet which did something similar by combining fantasy with sci-fi.
Another thing I really like about this show is how it generally plays with certain sci-fi tropes. The very first time the team goes out into space to search for one of the Princess Star Color Pens, they get into trouble with the locals, who see it as a sacred artifact, and even before that, look down on the Cures for not having fur like they do. It’s a pretty realistic depiction of making first contact with an alien race like that. Another interesting episode is in the aforementioned episode where Lala goes to school for the first time. You’d think that since her kind work are automatically educated by artificial intelligence, she’d be really smart, right? Actually, because of how much she’s relied on an AI to help her do everything, she’s so inept that she can’t even calculate double digits in class like 15+10, and generally struggles on her first day of school.
Generally, I’m really enjoying the show so far, and I’m looking forward to continuing it.
Star Twinkle Precure: Final Thoughts
Just some quick final thoughts of what I thought was a fairly decent series.
First, I apologize for not doing Precuruary this year and other years I’ve skipped it. It seems like whenever February comes, I’m just either not in the mood to do full reviews of Precure stuff or I have been busy with other things or even both and this year was definitely on the both side, but more so on the busy side. I just moved to my new place and it has been one of the hardest moves we’ve ever endured. Just now did we get all of our stuff and we moved in here weeks ago, back in late January. So, I apologize greatly for not being as active in Precure. I do love Precure and I do want to keep up with Precuruary because this is the one subject besides Hazbin Hotel and Winx Club, that I have a lot of passionate theories and thoughts on. Until my passion comes in Febuary, Precuruary is gonna be a little bit late and inconsistent in the dates.
With that being said, I’m gonna be quick or try to be quick about my overall thoughts of Star Twinkle Precure. Overall, I think I enjoyed Star Twinkle more than Hugtto, even though, I do think Hugtto did a better job at morals and story, Star Twinkle has been more of an enjoyment to watch. Perhaps is because the characters are just more likable, not that Hugtto’s wasn’t, but I got more into the side characters than the main characters in Hugtto. The only Cure I really cared about in Hugtto was Cure Etoile, but the other cures did seem more of stereotypes or caricatures we’ve seen a million times. The side characters were also just more interesting than the main characters.
Star Twinkle, we do get more of variety, though I do agree that Madoka doesn’t seem any different from the soft, but firm feminine anime type. What I mean is Madoka reminds me too much of characters like Hime, Karen, (Aikatsu Stars and Aikatsu Friends) and pass cures like Cure Beauty and Cure Rhythm. She’s an elegant lady who works hard, is rich,is from a strict noble family and her out bringing changes with the help of her friends. I do rant on about using archetypes we’ve seen a million times. Like it is hard to be 100% original, but it doesn’t change the fact that there are a lot of these types and unless they do something new with it, it’s really hard for me to care about said character.
(I do ADORE her design though.)
We also have another happy go lucky lead and yes, ultimately everyone grows with her, I think it would have just been nice if she was more of a nerdy shy type, with a strong passion to help and still have a great imagination. I mean, you can be helpful and be full of imagination without being the clumsy, hyper stereotype that is Hikaru. It would have actually made more sense if we had gotten a nerdy girl over Hikaru.
Hikaru developed I think the least of the cures. She didn’t go through anything that life changing and her back story, as someone from Angryanime wrote, wasn’t that realistic or relateable. If I had a dad that went around looking supernatural creatures, instead of taking care of the family, there would definitely more family strain than just the grandfather hating him.
Hikaru is not a bad character and she does go through some bullying, but so did many characters in the passed, including Haruka/Cure Flora. A bullied character can be fine, but they need to be interesting too and she’s just another happy go lucky character. She doesn’t necessarily have the charm as Hikaru nor the realistic, understandable back story that Nodoka/Cure Grace has. She’s just another Hana and Ichika.
The Princesses were also disappointingly dull in personality. There’s actually no excuse on it either. They could have easily based the personality of the princesses on their respective Zodiac. Like have Scorpio be moody or stern but emotional inside. Have Aries be easily angered and want things done her way. Leo a hot shot like Cure Gelato that she was obviously inspired from. Taurus like gardening and be the gentle one. That was another reason why the Zodiac was made. To understand people’s behavior and how to deal with someone that you may clash with or are more compatible with. I guess because the Cures don’t spend enough time with them, they just made them with a dull personality, but they could have. Like the Zodiac is basically not only a way to tell your fortune, but to learn from in terms of learning about yourself and others.
However, we do get characters like Lala/Cure Milky and Elena/Cure Soleil. I know people kept saying Elena was under developed and her development came way too soon. For me, personally as someone who has Autism that caused my growth to be slow. Like mentally, I’m younger than my physical age, I felt Elena’s development to be fine. Not perfect, but not everyone grows the same way, the same speed and like I said, for a while, I didn’t know what she could possibly learn being she is the most mature and responsible already.
Compared to the development of other characters in the passed (Mirai/Cure Miracle, whom, while I relate to somewhat in that child likeness of hers, I agree I don’t think she developed as much as leaders in the passed did and most of the characters in KiraKira Precure, especially Akira and Yukari!), Elena at least developed and was the most realistic of the cures. I relate to her wanting keep others happy but hiding your own feelings and pain in doing so. I do that even now, though I do try to be more open when something is really bothering me.
Lala, by far definitely grew a lot and is my second favorite of the Star Twinkle Team. Though, I dunno, both Elena and Lala I like pretty equally. I guess I do relate to Elena just a bit more though.. I think in truth, Lala was more of the main character than Hikaru because it seemed like the creators really liked her the most. There was a lot of focus on her and she seemed to develop the most than the other girls .I guess that does give a bit of a negative feel towards her for some people, which I can see, but Lala is pretty likable enough, that I kinda let it slip like most people seem to. She’s just a real nice, likable character!
As for Cure Cosmos, I honestly don’t know how to feel about her. I like her design and character, but I can’t say I like or dislike her. Pretty much on middle ground when it comes to her. She didn’t really leave a huge impact on me, negative or positive. I love the police puppy girl, Mary Anne, that was following her and I love their overall chemistry together! XD
The story did get a bit clunky towards the end and I would even argue a bit confusing. Like, okay, these princesses gave all their power to the pens, the cures, Fuwa and the rest of the world, it kinda made it seem pointless in reviving them anyway. The Notraiders and their story was touching and I like how they did touch upon issues like racism with Kappard and his people and an example of someone being born different from others like Tenjo and her people.
I will agree though, Eyewarn was the most annoying and hard to deal with. Her voice even got on my nerves! I didn’t care if they redeemed her. Her sudden change in attitude didn’t make sense and I think they would have done us all a favor and offed her somehow. I mean shoot, they weren’t afraid to full on kill the fairy mascot, they could have done so with Eyewarn easily. Who actually cared about the cyclops Trollz reject? I sure didn’t and I know a lot of people didn’t either!
Overall, I know this is review is all over the place, but I’ll do more of proper review later but I will rate Star Twinkle 7 1/2 stars out of 10. It’s not perfect but it’s been an enjoyable ride in the spaceship. Now we’re headed back down to earth and our usual stick with Healin Good Precure!
Star Twinkle Precure Episode 47
The funniest thing about this entire situation is that the characters that are snakes aren't the one that has a snake motif.
I think no episode of precure has ever got me so thorn and confused as this one. I've rewatched the episode, I've thought about it over and over, and I still don't know how I feel about this episode.
The first part is not the problem, I liked it a lot that was a sealed deal already on my first watch. Seeing the aftermath of last week's battle was interesting, I appreciate that they didn't forget about the seed they planted in that episode on Tenjo's planet, and I liked seeing the interactions with the villains. Aside from the Hikaru, Lala, and Kappard interaction that I didn't care that much, all the other moments were pretty good. Yuni and Eyewon are always a joy to watch, Tenjo and Elena had a very beautiful moment where they shared an emotional "I'm sorry" and "thank you", but by far my favorite interaction was seeing Madoka being sincere with Galogre and saying she doesn't know if she completely forgives them all but she's ready to move on and she doesn't want to hold that grudge, which to me sounds like an amazing lesson.
The raid to the previous Nottraiders' layer was also pretty good, even though we didn't have the best drawings and animation this week. It's always good to see reformed villains fighting evil alongside our heroes and in this case, it wasn't different. It was a short moment but it made me happy.
What came after it though... that's where lies my problem with this episode.
I say problem, but it's not a problem that much, I do have a problem near the end but it's a different issue from this one.
After the first portion of this fight, that was basically just stock footage spam, we get a very long exposition that expands the mythology of this world, it also serves as the backstory for our villain, and ON TOP OF THAT it acts as a twist, and... I don't know, the fact that it was way too much new information being dumped at us made it kinda difficult for me to process everything new I was learning and I also couldn't process my feelings very well which caused me a lot of confusion.
And it's not that those revelations were bad, I think it's very interesting that the princess shared half of their power with the entire universe to give all sentient creatures imagination, it also can be used as an explanation of why they were so weak in the last episode, I mean after sharing half of it with the universe and having probably 90% of the remaining power being on the star pens and inside Fuwa it's not a surprise they couldn't even hold a simple barrier. There was also something very cool in seeing how shady the princesses were by holding all this information. Though... let's be honest, it was a very jerk move to make the vessel of your powers a sentient creature, and how inconsiderate they were by then giving said creature to be under the care of other beings knowing that said vessel would disappear once their ritual was completed and let whoever was in charge of the vessel emotionally destroyed. Now that I think about it Greek and Nordic gods are all ruthless like that so, I guess they're in character.
And you know, I had fun slowly processing each information and developing my thoughts and opinions on them, but when I was watching the episode my mind was going to all different places trying to put this picture together and it was very hard to have a clear image of the situation because every new sentence we had more new things being added to the mix and I was completely lost at that moment. And it's a scene that lasts for quite some time so you can guess that it wasn't as fun to be this lost for such a long time which affected my opinion on this episode. But of course, this is just my experience, maybe my brain is too slow, so I don't hold this grudge against this episode.
HOWEVER, as I mentioned before, I do have a problem here that to me is a fundamental error that makes me think low of our main character (and our supporting cast too to some level) and also puts my hopes down that the ending won't be something that's gonna make me salty. This is a thing I commented in the last episode as well and it is how the priorities of this team are all messed up. Like, I get it, Fuwa is your friend and you care deeply for it, and if the stakes in this situation were a bit lower I feel like I would be more empathetic towards Hikaru's hesitation, but we're talking about THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE being in danger of being wiped out, this isn't a matter of saving/protecting Fuwa. Yes, it's cruel, it's sad, but even Fuwa knew what was the right thing that should've been done there, like what's the point of saving Fuwa if there's no universe after it? Maybe I'm rushing and already disliking this because it's set in my mind that they'll bring Fuwa back from the dead somehow in the next episode and they'll banalize her sacrifice with some dumb Deus Ex Machina, maybe I'm being dumb for disliking that a show aimed at kids is taking a lighter route to reach its ending, but if I came here and said that I like it and that this feels right I would be lying.
I don't know, I thought that making this post and writing down my thoughts would clear things up and I'd feel better about this episode but this somehow this just made me even more confused, I NEED HELP. What did you guys think about it? Please enlighten me with your knowledge, higher beings that read my words, I'm desperate here. I'll try to rewatch the episode a couple of times more and see if I have other thoughts and if I do I'll come back here to say what changed or what didn't so, I'll see you guys sometime soon.
