───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
JOHN’S CHEST RISES and falls with each deep breath. You’re on your phone, back pressed to his chest, other hand resting upon his forearm, gently rubbing circles with your thumb. John loved his work, but he loved you more; he always craved being beside you, having you in his arms. The bedroom is quiet, other than a fan running to keep you both cool in the summer heat. “John, look.” You smile, offering him your phone. Just as he’s about to take it, a line on your wrist catches his attention. Slowly, he takes the phone, trying to peer at what was on your skin, yet you moved your hand away as he took it. It was a simple post of a saint bernard puppy, his favourite breed of dog. It makes him smile. “His name is Cash. Isn’t he adorable?” You giggle, rolling over in your husband’s arms to huddle closer to his chest. “Yeah, very.” He hums, handing you your phone back. You’re smiling as you continue scrolling.
Eventually, curiosity gets the better of John, and he gently grasps your wrist, pulling ever so slightly. You glance at him, watching his eyes trace over the tattoo upon your wrist. It was only small, barely noticeable. “When’d you get this?” He asks softly, smiling a little. “A few weeks ago. Do you like it?” You respond, a ghost of a laugh on your voice. It was a small, fluffy bear with a bucket hat on. John’s eyes are bright with amusement. “I love it.” He chuckles, it rumbles in his chest as he lifts your wrist; pressing a kiss over the mark. “Ive been talking about one for a while, and I figured i’d get something of you. To remind me you’re still here even when you’re away.” You explain, letting him run his thumb over your inked skin. “Maybe I should get something of you.” He muses, looking at you.
“I thought you didn’t want tattoos.” You tease, kissing his lips gently as John lowers your wrist once more. “I’d do anything for you.” He mutters, smile creasing his eyes. “Sap.” You chuckle, gently hitting his chest. “What would you get?” You add on, resting your head upon your lover’s shoulder. “A swan, maybe on her phone.” He half-jokes. “A swan?” You giggle, looking at him. “Mhm. They’re beautiful birds, very elegant, very precious too. You’re definitely my swan.” He smiles, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “Aw, John.” You croon, cupping his cheek to press a sweet kiss to his lips. “Perhaps you should make a design for me.” John suggests, holding you closer. “Yeah? Maybe I could…” You reply, letting your head rest once more. “Mhm. I’ve seen your little doodles. It would feel more… special, intimate.” He adds on, fingers brushing over yours before tangling between them, he brings your hand up to a soft kiss; focusing upon your ring finger where your wedding band sits.
“I’ll see what I can do.” You respond, smiling brightly. “Good, good. I can’t wait to see what you come up with.” John chuckles, already picturing what little creations you could come up with. “Let’s just hope your boys don’t tease you.” You joke, scrolling through your social media’s once more. “They wouldn’t.” John rolls his eyes playfully. “Mmm… they would.” You smile, kissing his collarbone. John let’s out a soft chuckle. “They’ve been asking about you.” He notes. “Yeah?” You chuckle, looking up at him. “Mhm. It’s all ‘how’s our mama bear?’ and ‘when can we see her again?’ It’s mainly Johnny, you know how he is.” He laughs gently, you smile. “They’re probably the closest we’ll have to kids.” You joke, knowing how fond they were of you. “I think kids would be less difficult.” John grins. “Yeah,” you laugh. “Kids don’t have access to C4.” John lets out a joking groan. “Don’t remind me.” You laugh again, gazing at your husband as the room settles once more. “What..?” He muses, smiling gently at you. “Nothing.” You smile wider, kissing him.
“Nah, somethings up. What?” He muses, hand rubbing your back. “Just… would you want kids? A family?” You ask, pressing your head into his neck. “Of course. We’d have adorable kids.” He chuckles, “They’d look like you, i’m sure.” He adds on. “Yeah?” You smile, squeezing his torso a little tighter. “Yeah. I wouldn’t mind having a few kids with you, doll.” John insists, muscular arms moving around you securely. You giggle softly, snuggling closer. “I love you.” You tell him, chest elated with joy. “I love you more, darling. Get some rest, eh? It’s getting late.” John whispers, kissing the top of your head. “Alright. Good night, John.” You respond, curling closer. “Night, lovely.”

The Dragon Queen
Jaehaera Targaryen x Aegon iii Targaryen
***!!!Not Canon Compliant!!!***
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chapter: 18 Jaehaera
The Sovereign of Meeren had been given a chamber in Maegor’s Holdfast. It was a decent sized room befitting her station. Quite small compared to the chambers she had in the Great Pyramid of Meeren. Though the Green Princess wasn’t about to complain.
On the contrary she had quickly become enamored with the space when she realized the view she has to garden, was that of her late mothers wisteria trees. They stood tall and wide with their pretty lavender droopy flowers flowing beautifully in the wind. Jaehaera’s tears had been difficult to stop. The elation in her heart that her mother’s precious trees were still standing made her feel like Helaena’s ghost was close to her.
Her mama, her precious and kind; so utterly good hearted mama who was to weak for this barbarous world. To think just months prior she had cried into her cousin Viserys chest about how much Jaehaera grew to resent her mother.
‘She jumped out the tower without even thinking twice! She jumped not caring what would become of me! She didn’t stop to think that I needed her too!”
Her mothers suicide didn’t leave Jaehaera’s heart feeling like an everlasting void of sorrow and nothingness; the way Jaehaerys murder did. No her mothers death sprung a deep seeded anger taking root in her veins, that if Jaehaera could she’d resurrect her mama back to life just kill her again. Mama had left her open for the vultures. If it wasn’t for Ser Robert Oakheart, the vultures would have raptured her away and torn her apart.
Presently however as the girl stares into the garden. As the wisteria dances delicately in the cool breeze shinning that beautiful color of light lavender. Jaehaera’s heart allows itself to soften because like a brick, the memory of her late mama’s eyes in the sunlight were the same shade as the wisteria petals.
The chamber door behind her opens suddenly it’s her little translator Paroh.
“Princess, you have a guest who wishes to speak with you…” Paroh says in Dothraki.
“Whom is it Paroh?” Jaehaera replies in Dothraki as well.
Her advisors had petitioned to use the language within themselves to keep their plans and wishes private. One never knew when ears lurked behind the the brick walls. When in the Red Keep tis best to move and speak with caution.
“The Princess Rhaena.” Her voice mousy. Understanding her liege’s sudden hesitation flooding her face. Nonetheless she orders Paroh to let her in.
Jaehaera smoothes out her dress. It’s a Meerenese style gown. With a beautiful pink shawl wrapping across her shoulder in elegant pleats.
The older Princess walks in with all the grace of swimming swan. Her silver hair in regal tight locks cascading down her back. Indigo eyes shinning in quiet warmth and a polite smiling emerging on her beautiful face. Her dress made of the finest Westerosi cotton, dyed in expensive rich dark purple dye. Truly looking the part of a princess of the realm.
Never one to forget her courtesy, Jaehaera gives a quick curtesy locking eyes with her older cousin.
“Princess Rhaena”
The older princess gives an amused hum and curtesys as well.
“Cousin” she steps forward wrapping her arms around the younger girl tightly.
“Oh-“
Jaehaera is taken by surprise wrapping her arms around the Princess Rhaena as well though not as tightly.
“By the Gods you are a beauty” she gushes caressing one of Jaehaera’s loose curls.
“Definitely inherited the Hightower curls” it feels like she made that statement mostly to herself.
Jaehaera gives nothing but an awkward ‘um’, making the other Princess laugh.
“Viserys wrote so much about you! Please let us drink some tea, he tells me you’re a fan of cinnamon.” She guides Jaehaera to the small table.
The Green Princess just let herself be herded by the other princess. Not really sure how to act towards her. The difference between the attitudes of the Twin Princess’s felt like night and day. Where Baela had been harsh and cold upon first meeting, Rhaena was proving to be cheery and warm.
They sit across from each other. Rhaena scans her warm eyes on Jaehaera’s lovely face, looking as if she has a million questions yet not sure where to begin.
“You look like her.” Rhaena says quietly. Almost sadly. “You look like Helaena…”
A small smile graces her lips. Helaena hadn’t been the most beautiful maiden in the realm but she had been Jaehaera’s entire world at one point.
“Thank you” she says quietly as Rhaena begins to pour tea for the both of them.
“All the stories you must have cousin” Rhaena begins. “Viserys wrote highly of you, you know.”
“Really? I felt like we argued half the time he was in Meeren.” The Green Princess says with a chuckle.
“That little shit is quite the handful” The beauty says “though he’s the only one Aegon trusted to convince you to return.”
She hands the steaming tea cup to Jaehaera. “A good portion of us at court were convinced he would succeed.” Rhaena stirs the sugar in her tea absentmindedly. “How did Serys convince you to return? Did he talk your ear off?”
“No” the younger girl laughs
“Did he beg?”
“I wish”
“Oh this must be a good story than!” Rhaena says cheerily with a conspiring dimpled smile. She and Aegon have the same dimples Jaehaera notes.
Aegon’s smile and deep voice comes into her mind making her shiver flusteredly.
Jaehaera licks her lips, shifting her weight in her seat. “It’s a long story…”
The Princess Rhaena smiled prettily. “I have all day.”
Hesitant lilac eyes meet warm indigo ones.
“Well it truly began when I had invited Viserys to dine in my personal quarters one evening…”
Note
2, 5, 48 & 53?
2) What movie(s) could you watch over and over and not get tired of?
Mean Girls and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire are the two films I could have on in the background while I'm working every day of my life. Mean Girls especially; it never takes, it only gives, what a rare and precious jewel honestly.
5) Favorite dead actor/actress?
Rita Hayworth, Bette Davis, Anton Walbrook.
48) A disappointing film from your favorite actor?
Mama is so mediocre even though it's a ghost story with goth Jessica Chastain. The Northman was just "eh it's okay" even though it technically has Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicole Kidman doing Ophelia and Gertrude. Why does The Huntsman: Winter's War have Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain doing operatic levels of unhinged femininity if the main character is going to be... Chris Hemsworth (and they airbrushed Kristen Stewart from the franchise history). :(((((
53) A movie that not many have heard of that you’ve seen?
Everyone who likes aesthetic, A24esque horror should watch Swallow (2019); Nocturne (2020) is a really enjoyable "we have Black Swan at home" film; also, everyone should watch She Dies Tomorrow because Amy Seimetz deserves to be more well-known.
Daddy-daughter Day
Tumblr media
Pairings: Captain Killian Jones + Emma Swan
Summary: 2 months after Hope is born, David needs help with a fight at the Rabbit Hole - leaving Killian to look after his daughter.
Tumblr media
Since Hope had arrived into their lives with a cry and flickering lights - they knew she would be a bit of a handful (not that they minded).
They'd taken to every cry, feeding and change like every parent would, making sure that the babe was comfortable and happy.
As much as Killian and Emma dotted over and adored their precious little bundle of joy, David had come to Emma for help with a fight at the Rabbit Hole, Emma really didn't want to go help her father (when Emma had mentioned this to Killian).
Tumblr media
Emma had said goodbye to her father, hanging up the phone - and set it down on the countertop. She leaned against the back of the chair in front of her and started to think.
As she thought, Killian came into the kitchen with baby Hope in his arms, she was now 2 months old, her hair growing and becoming more tangled every time she slept.
"Swan? What's going on?" Killian asked, handing Hope over to her mother (as he'd rather quickly gotten used to Emma - as well as Hope - needed their cuddles in the morning or after Hope wakes up from her nap).
"There's a fight going on at the Rabbit Hole, dad wants me to go over and help," Emma said, bouncing Hope on her hip - and looked over at Killian, wondering what she should do.
Killian stood at Emma's side. He gently ran his fingers through his daughter's hair - he watched as Hope tipped her head back into Killian's palm and gave him a gummy smile that he always likes to think is a true smile.
"You can go help your father, Swan, I'll keep an eye on our cygnet," Killian promises, making Emma look up at him.
"Are you sure?" Emma said, looking at her husband, she really didn't want to leave Hope (even though she knew Killian would protect and look after their baby if she went to go help her dad).
Killian smiled, letting his hook curl itself around a lock of Emma's hair. "You won't be gone long, it's not like anything is going to explode," Killian made a joke, and it made Emma smile.
Tumblr media
Emma slipped on her brown leather jacket, she stood at the front door - peppering her daughter in kisses, her blonde hair tickling over the babe's face, making the childlike giggles flow from her mouth.
"I'll see you in a little while, I promise, sweetie," Emma cooed at Hope, before hanging her baby back to Hope's father, and then reaching up and pressed a kiss to his lips. "I'll be back," Emma promises, and leaves.
As soon as Emma left, Hope's face crumbled and started to whimper.
"Little one, it's ok, mama will be back soon," Killian promises, Hope was bounced once again, only this time by her father.
Hope's lip started quivering, and Killian knew that it was only a matter of time before his baby girl burst into tears (and every time she did, it broke his heart). He sat down on the couch, where a teddy bear sat - it was given to Hope from her big brother Henry, and every time she saw it, she squealed and clapped her hands.
"Hope, look who it is," Killian said in his soft tone to his daughter, showing her the teddy bear, and a sparkle lit in her eyes, reaching out for the bear, and proceeded to put its' ear into her mouth.
Killian allowed her to chew the bears' ear and stroked the top of her head. He pressed a kiss to the top of her head and smiled at her. "I love you, cygnet," he says, his daughter simply looked up at him and babbled in her baby language. "I do, cygnet, I really really do,"
MC is crying at Marley and me, AGAIN. I mean she cries at everything, ad that hasn't shown since she was a kid until now? Cries. Jaffa cakes have one extra jaffa? Cries. Having fun on a day out? Cries. V emotional MC, cries when they're happy and sad but the real question is, how do the LIs react to MC crying over good news they've given? I'd say that this point they know the mc feels...emotions... very strongly!
Alright this one’s gonna be a bit different once we get to the middle, so we’ll start with the normal ones…
Warden: Intimidated, confused, and a little panicked. The first few times he will NOT know what to do, but eventually he’ll settle for “Th—There, there,” and will come to figure out that he can just hug MC if she’s open to it. Once he gets used to it and figures out that MC crying =/= MC on fire (aka not an emergency), he’ll find it kind of endearing.
Mia: Starts carrying tissues in her purse for bae. Honestly Mia considers herself to be an excessively emotional person as is, so seeing the MC cry so easily is like… so sweetly vulnerable and precious. But it also absolutely activates her mama bear instincts, must protecc. She empathizes deeply and doesn't want ANYTHING to make MC feel like she has to "cry less" or "be less sensitive," Mia will get into a literal fist fight over this.
Griffin, Dart and Jade: They start a list of things that make MC cry. It doesn’t matter WHICH one of these goons MC is dating, they will talk amongst each other and ultimately come to the consensus that they’re going to keep track of this and text each other about it. They might even start a bingo card…
This feels a bit like bullying lol?? They’re not trying to be mean – Griffin insists it’s scientific documentation (low-key having an affectionate laugh), Dart is morbidly fascinated and honestly-secretly kind of a gossip, and Jade… talks to Griffin too much. They’d readily admit that they don’t want MC to change and they love her the way she is, it’s just…. kinda meme-able, you know? Can you blame them? They’re waiting with bated breath to see if MC cries when she finds out swans can be gay
After getting permission from @asknarashikari for doing the Den-O nicknames, here's part two of Ise's nicknames for the Den-Liner crew! It's becoming Imagin town over here.
Momotaros: Sanjou. No, seriously. Ise has heard him do the "Ore sanjou" thing so many times that he's started to think that maybe it's his actual name. Momo, being the rough-and-tumble one of the group, tries to put up a facade of being upset about it, but he's still an absolute softie at heart and would honestly die for Ise. (Not that Ryotaro would let him, of course, and besides, Ise's a dragon. He can protect himself.)
Urataros: Kame-san. This one Ise stole from Momo, and it's honestly accurate. In turn, Ura dotes on him, always swooping in to make sure he's okay- Ura has become a fourth dad to Ise and Touma, Rintaro and Kento are fucking jealous.
Kintaros: Kin-kin. The duplication returns, and with it the puns. Technically Kin-chan's name is supposed to resemble that of the legend, but Ise noticed that it happened to contain his color, as well as the word for metal, and Kin-chan had had a pot thrown on his head courtesy of Ryuta the day he and Ise met. Kin-chan, being the loyal, adorable bear that he is, absolutely loves Ise, and Ise loves him back. That's why whenever he gets tired while at the Milk Dipper, he always heads off to cuddle with Kin-chan.
Ryutaros: Ru-ru. Again, Ise can't pronounce "ryu"- ironically enough, given his species- so the duplication ended up dropping the y just like he did for Ryotaro. Aside from that, though, Ryuta and Ise have way too much fun together. Ryuta gave him a bubble gun, and is teaching him how to breakdance (to everyone's horror). Ise actually likes it, though, and when he's not calling him Ru-ru, he's calling him Ru-nii, because they're both dragons.
Deneb: Mido-nii. Ise hasn't the faintest idea what Deneb is supposed to be, but the amount of green on his body makes Ise think of good things- like his Uncle Ren-ren- so he named him for that. And dang if Deneb doesn't love it. Seriously, the whole Den-Liner crew just pampers the little dragon, and he loves it.
Sieg: Get this asshole away from the precious baby dragon- now for real, it's Tori-ji. Ise doesn't quite know what a swan is, nor what ballet is, but he does know that Sieg has a rather large obsession with feathers. Feathers are from birds, so therefore Sieg is a bird. Sieg takes it rather well, honestly, and Ise is kind of one of the only people he respects (aside from Hana, who kicked his ass, and Ryotaro, whom he's sworn to aid.)
Teddy: Ao-chan. When Kotaro told Ise what Teddy translates as- i.e. a bear- Ise kept cracking up whenever Kin-chan and Teddy were in the same room. But again, he had to create a nickname, so he went with Teddy's color, sort of like he did with Kin-chan. Teddy is a literal overprotective mama bear for Kotaro (and sometimes Ryotaro), and now for Ise as well. Ise loves the dude.
Part 1
Tumblr media
The morning the tourist board visit was due Ari woke up early, which was unusual ever since he started sharing the bed with Hannah. Actually, it wasn't that unusual, he was still an early bird but he liked to lay in with her in his arms once both of them were awake until they heard someone else was up and it was time for them to tend to breakfast for the guests. He stretched and turned his head a little, grinning as he felt Hannah’s face by his head, but then he wrinkled his nose as she was licking his ear.
Ok, so that was new.
"Han…" he chuckled "Babe…"
Then there was a little whine followed by a tiny bark. Ari frowned and opened one eye to realise that it was in fact Simon’s tongue that was stuck in his ear.
"Gross pal… gross." he groaned as he shoved the dog away from his face. Ari then rolled onto his back and ran a hand through his hair, smiling as he realised Hannah was due back that day. 7 long days and nights without her, it had been crap. And he had to admit, he hadn’t been in a great mood. In fact, if he was being fully honest, he was totally aware he had been a nightmare to the rest of the team. And he still wasn’t particularly pleased he couldn’t go pick her up but… well, she’d be home in… he reached over for his watch and saw it was just gone 7:30 so she’d be home in round about 5 hours all things considered.
That made him smile again, it really wasn’t long at all now. So he stretched out, before he swung his legs out of bed, got dressed, shoved on his sneakers and then whistled to Simon. He opened his door and stepped out onto the sand, the sea lightly illuminated by the early morning sun, and the two of them headed out for a run before the rest of the resort awoke.
About an hour or so later after a jog and a slower walk down the coast path Ari returned, showered and headed down to the main building. The rest of the team was already at the table for breakfast. After nodding to a few guests he sat down next to Sammy, reaching for the coffee pot.
"Morning." he greeted, his tone chipper, as he poured a cup.
"Oh my God." Max gasped.
"What?"
Max ignored Ari and turned to Jake instead. "Did you see that?"
Jake nodded. "I know man, I can’t believe it."
“Believe what? Ari asked, looking around the table.
"You, smiling." Max explained with a grin across his face.
Ari rolled his eyes. "Oh, fuck off."
Besides him Sammy sniggered so Ari playfully gave him a dig with his elbow and Sammy laughed even harder, rubbing his side.
"I’m glad you’re in a good mood today because Madibo will be here in 2 hours or so and we don’t need a bratty owner. So you need to stay as charming Guy Thomas and not the sulking, whiny bitch you’ve been for the past week." Rachel instructed, looking intently at him.
Ari was about to argue but Rachel narrowed her eyes at him and he sighed, shrugging. Truth be told he had no argument.
"Oh he’ll be charming alright… but not for Madibo." Jake joked and Max let out his characteristic laugh.
"Oh come on, I’ve not been that bad." Ari tried to defend himself.
The entire table started to scoff and took turns in pointing out to him that he had been that bad and Ari snorted, shaking his head.
"You’ve been worse than Sammy is." Rachel deadpanned but her eyes were soft on Sammy who played the offended victim
"Hey!"
"She’s right." Max agreed.
"Ok, I’ll admit…I’ve been a little bit tetchy." Ari said as he lowered his head in defeat.
"I bet when me or Max leave no one is gonna bat an eyelid." Max quipped. At that point Simon barked and Jake acknowledged him
 "Thanks buddy, I’ll miss you too."
There was a roar of laughter and then Sammy turned to Ari. "You know tetchy doesn’t even begin to describe it."
"Fuck you Sammy." Ari jokingly retorted.
Sammy laughed and stood up. "All right, I’m so overwhelmed with the love you are all giving me this morning."
"What are you doing? Sit down and shut up." Ari commanded, shaking his head.
"I can’t. I need to shower and then set off to pick my sister up. You remember her?"
"No, he doesn’t. Absolutely not…" Max said playfully.
"You know what, Navon…" Ari trailed off as Sammy grinned at him as he snatched up another piece of toast and left the table. "Drive safe! Be careful with the cargo" Ari called across the room.
Max and Jake both snorted as Sammy flicked Ari the bird over his shoulder before he left the room. And Rachel sighed before she demanded their attention and started telling them her plan for Madibo.
"So Jake is going to start with the diving area, show him the facilities, how we run the tours, take him out on a boat to show him the diving spots from the surface."
"Yeah if I take him over the wreck he’ll be able to see it." Jake offered.
Rachel nodded before continuing. "Then a tour of the rest of the facility, show him what we’ve done with the place. He can speak to a few guests. I don't know, see the guest book and the reviews. And then lunch."
"Great, sounds good. Where do you want me?" Ari asked.
"With Madibo. At all times. You’re the owner. You did the negotiations with him." she explained and Ari nodded.
"Ok. Stuck to Madibo it is.”
"Am I doing anything?" Max asked.
"Like what? Showing him how you twist and bend in your pyjama pants." Jake replied, throwing him a piece of toast from his plate.
"Says the tanning scarecrow." Max glared at him as he dodge the flying food.
"Don't play with the food.” Ari instructed before he looked at Max “And actually you can keep an eye on Simon."
 "Are you sure you trust me with your itty bitty baby puppy?" Max looked at Ari questioning his suggestion. "Just two days ago you wanted to kill me for, and I quote, pup-napping your precious pooch."
"Better than letting him fuck Madibo’s leg." Jake scoffed.
"Exactly… that or biting him." Ari sided with Jake.
"He wouldn’t hump him. It's been a week since he saw that. Dogs have short term memories." Max offered casually.
"Ok, now shut the fuck up." Ari raised his voice.
"No, they don’t! How do they remember to sit and lay down if they only have a short term memory?" Jake inquired.
"Same as you remember to get dressed in the morning but can’t remember what you ate yesterday." Max explained and shrugged.
"Will you all shut up and help me clear the table?" Rachel said, standing up to remark with her actions she wanted the nonsense to be over.
 "Not sure I remember how." Jake snorted, amused at his own wit, which earned him a slap round the back of the head from Rachel.
**** The line for passport control was taking for ever and Hannah was losing patience. She had always hated this part of travelling plus her feeling of impatience was compounded by knowing that Ari was literally the other side of the door she could see. Finally she was called forward and after smiling at the Immigration officer who stamped her passport she walked through with her bag in her hand and out of the doors into the warm Sudan air. She glanced around for Ari, ready to leap into his arms, but she couldn’t see him. Instead she spotted Sammy waiting by the jeep. He smiled and came towards her and she grinned back, giving him a hug.
“Try not to look too disappointed I’m not Ari.” Her brother chuckled and Hannah snorted.
“Oh shut up, I’m just as happy to see you”
“Yeah right!” Sammy pulled back and picked up her bag as Hannah gave a roll of her eyes and followed him back to the jeep.
“How’s everyone been?” she asked.
“Good.” Sammy nodded “Ari nearly killed Max and Jake on Monday.” He tossed her bag into the back.
“Why?” Hannah asked as she climbed into the car.
“They took Simon out on the boat. Ari thought he’d lost him…kinda went a little bit mad, not as mad as he did when he got told he couldn’t pick you up.”
“Yeah why is that?”
“We got a tourist board visit.” Sammy answered as he set off “He’s with Colonel Madibo now, so when you arrive, you’re Rosa…”
“Noted.” Hannah nodded “So other than that has everyone been ok?”
“Yeah, other than Ari, he’s been a pain in the ass. Clinging to that dog like it’s his fucking kid…”
Hannah grinned and looked out of the window as they eased onto the main freeway out of the city. But, after a few minutes or so her grin slipped.  Sarah’s words had been stuck in her mind all day and night, and the worst bit about their conversation yesterday was that Hannah had wanted to tell Sarah she was wrong. She’d wanted to defend Ari but had been unable to because Sarah was right. He had put them second. And if Sarah’s comments about how Ari had refused to go to her wedding because he had still loved her were true, then that made her feel even worse about the whole situation, that she could somehow be responsible for Ari being the reckless asshole he was with regards to his marriage.
Hannah needed reassurance more than anything, reassurance that wasn’t the case and also an affirmation that once all this was over, he wasn’t just going to swan off into the sunset and leave her behind again. And whilst she could understand that he might not quit this life, and Hannah was ok with that, she knew that it could work because she’d seen her mother and father do so, what worried her was that her dad had manage to strike a balance . She wasn’t sure that Ari would be able to.
The only thing she did know was that if she had to watch Ari walk away again, it would kill her.
**** Ari, Rachel, Madibo and the two men he’d brought with him were just finishing lunch when Ari heard the sound of the jeep approaching. He tried to bite back his smile and caught Rachel’s eye. The look on her face told him his was failing, miserably.
“Do we have company Mr Thomas?” Colonel Madibo frowned and looked at him, clearly having picked up the sound of the engine which was now louder as the jeep had pulled up outside. Ari hesitated and then thought, what the hell. He and Hannah weren’t a secret, plus the team had already stated at length how much it actually added to their cover. He took a deep breath and looked at the man, smiling “It’s My girlfriend, Rosa-“ Ari didn’t miss the smile that flickered across Rachel’s face when he uttered the words “-she’s been home to Spain for a week to see her mother. One of the other guys went to pick her up before.”
“Oh, I didn’t know you were running this place as a partnership?” Madibo looked at him and Ari took a breath
“We weren’t…it’s…” he paused, rubbing his neck “…well, it’s a long story but we go way back and…”
“Say no more Mr Thomas, I get it.” Madibo grinned “The magic of the Red Sea” The man turned his head to look out of the large open lattice doors across the beach before he turned back to Ari “There is something very romantic about being by the ocean.”
“There certainly is.” Ari agreed with a smile. At that point he heard Hannah’s voice drifting down the hallway into the dining room as she jabbered away to her brother, her Spanish accent impeccable thanks to Sammy clearly having warned her about their visitors. Ari turned to look as she walked into the room dressed casually in jeans and a light blue button down sleeveless blouse. Her eyes met his and she beamed at him, a flash of what looked like relief crossed her face and he grinned, standing up. He crossed towards her and gave her a hug.
“Hi.” Hannah said gently into his ear.
“Hi yourself.” He replied, pulling back and giving her a quick kiss “Was your flight ok?”
Hannah nodded “No brat kicking my chair so…”
Ari laughed and then looked at Sammy who raised his eyebrows in the direction of the table. Slipping back in to professional, Guy Thomas mode he nodded and smiled.
“Come on guys, let me introduce you to our guests.” He took Hannah’s hand and led her to the table. “Colonel Madibo this is Rosa Garcia, she’s in charge of guest relations and this is Liam Anderson…” Ari gestured to Sammy “Our entertainment manager who also doubles up as our site doctor.”
“Pleasure to meet you both.” Madibo rose from his chair. He shook Sammy’s and then took Hannah’s clamping his other hand over the top of hers. He looked at her, smiling, before he turned to Ari “You are a lucky man Mr Thomas.”
Ari raised his eyebrows and smiled, looking at Hannah who flushed as Madibo let go of her hand. “I sure am.” He then turned to Hannah and frowned a little at the look on her face. She was smiling, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes, almost like she was nervous. Maybe she was, after all, Madibo and his guard were quite imposing when all was said and done.
“I don’t mean to be rude, but I’ve had a long flight and need to freshen up.” She spoke, a little shyly “Would you please excuse me?”
“Of course, of course Miss Garcia.” Madibo bowed a little “It was a pleasure to meet you.” “You too Colonel.” She smiled, and turned to give Rachel a quick hug before she reached for her bag.
“I’ll do that.” Ari offered “I’ll fetch it in a little while.”
“Ok, thanks” she nodded, before she turned to leave, but paused, spinning back to look at Ari “Where’s Simon.” “With Max and Jake.” Ari said.
She nodded and gave them all another stiff sile before she scurried away.
Now Ari was sure something was bothering her. He looked at Sammy for some kind of clue but he was clearly as puzzled as he was as he shrugged slightly. He then turned to Rachel who met him with a blank look of her own. But, before he could dwell on it too much, Madibo spoke again causing Ari to turn back to him.
“We should be going anyway now, but I’m pleased with what you’ve done with the place.” The Colonel looked around, smiling “My report back to the President will be very favourable.”
“All free of charge, I hope.” Ari quipped and Madibo laughed, pointing at him
“You’re a funny man Mr Thomas!”
Rachel shot Ari a warning look and he simply shrugged, giving her a cheeky grin. They followed Madibo and his 2 guards out to the truck where they shook hands, thanked him for coming and bid him goodbye. No sooner had the truck gone Ari strode back inside, picked up Hannah’s bag and headed off towards her hut. She hadn’t made it back there, however, instead he found her halfway down the beach, crouching on the sand by Max with Simon going bananas as he jumped all over her, his tail wagging furiously, excited little whines coming from him as he licked her face.
“You happy to see momma buddy?” Ari chuckled as he stopped by her side.
“No, that’s his sad face.” Max deadpanned and Ari laughed, dropping a hand to Hannah’s head, gently caressing her hair.
“You ok Firefly?”
“Yeah, just tired.” Hannah stood up and looked at him.
“Wanna go rest?” he asked, his mind straying to the fact he was quite happy to go curl up next to her on the bed, maybe a little bit of something else, and from the snort that came from Max he wasn’t the only one thinking such things. “Piss off.” Ari turned to him, raising an eyebrow.
Max laughed “I’m gone…” Hannah and Ari both watched him leave and Ari wrapped his arms round Hannah’s back, pulling her into him, giving her a deep kiss. He pulled away, his nose bumping hers. “Wanna go lay down for a while?” Hannah shook her head. “No, if I do I won’t sleep later. Think I’m gonna get changed and hit the beach.” She said, glancing around.
“Oh, ok.” Ari tried not to sound too disappointed. He hadn’t seen her in over a week and she was pushing him away.  Now he knew for sure something was wrong, but he also knew if he pushed her too hard she’d clam up even more. Hannah looked at him, and he clearly hadn’t done as good a job of hiding his disappointment as he hoped as she took a deep breath, sliding her arms round his waist as she pressed into him, her cheek against his chest.
“I have something for you from Maya.” She said gently
Ari looked down frowning “You saw Maya?”
“No, I saw Sarah.”
“What?” his frown deepened.
“She left a note with Ethan, asking me to call her.” Hannah shrugged, stepping back.
“Why?”
“She wanted to talk to me.”
“What about?”
“Take a guess Ari” Hannah sighed and went to pick up her bag. Ari bat her hand away and picked it up, taking her hand in his spare as they walked silently towards her hut, Simon trotting in front of them. For the first time in weeks it was a little awkward between them, Ari unsure exactly what to say whereas Hannah was simply exhausted both physically and mentally. The relief she had felt upon seeing Ari had melted away and she was back to dwelling on what Sarah had said. Once they were inside her hut, Ari dropped Hannah’s bag on her bed. Without a word she reached into it and pulled out the envelope addressed to Daddy. Ari took it, glanced at the writing on the front, his breath catching a little before he looked at Hannah. “You know, you didn’t need to meet her.”
“Well I did, it wasn’t a big deal.”
“It clearly is.” Ari bit back, an air of frustration in his voice “I can tell somethings bothering you Hannah, so what did she want?”
“She was just curious I guess.” “Curious about what?” Ari’s temper was starting to fray and Hannah let out a growl of annoyance.
“About, us Ari, what do you think? She basically asked me outright if I loved you, then told me to ask you why you never came to my wedding and…” she paused as Ari groaned as he ran a hand through his hair, shaking his head. “She said it was because you couldn’t bear to see me marry someone else.” Hannah looked at Ari, shaking her head. “Is that true?”
“Hannah, does it really matter?”
“It matters to me, yes!”
Ari sighed, looking down at the floor as he shook his head “Look, I loved Sarah, you know this…”
“For fucks sake, just tell me the truth Ari!”
“Yes, ok!” Ari snapped “The reason I didn’t come is because the thought of you with anyone else, well it made me sick. That what you wanted to hear?”
Hannah looked at him, blinking before she shrugged. “I don’t know to be honest with you.”
“Han…” “She made me feel like shit, Ari!” Hannah looked up at him, tears in her eyes “She basically said you’d been in love with me for the entire time you’d been married to her, that she was second best and…”
“For fucks sake…” Ari shook his head “She had no right to put that on you, no right at all.”
Hannah looked down at her feet, “I can’t blame her, Ari. I’d be the same in her position.”
Ari swallowed as he glanced at his feet, looking again at the letter in his hand before he raised his head to Hannah once more. “Did she say anything else?”
Hannah snorted “She wished me good luck, said I was gonna need it.”
“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” Ari bit back angrily and Hannah let out a scoff.
“She meant when all this is over, the mission and we go back home.” She glanced at Ari and he was surprised now to see the angry fire in her eyes. “She said that she had never managed to stop you leaving before, even when she was pregnant and was basically implying that once we’re home and out of this little bubble then it would all be different and you’d leave me behind…”
“Ok, no, stop…” Ari held his hand up, tossing the letter onto her bed. “Firefly, listen…” he gently took her face in his hands “That’s not gonna happen. I told you before, I’m not letting you go again.”
“I know you did, and I believe you I do.” She shook her head “And I know that it’s different for us because I’ve lived this life too and I get what being in Mossad means, you know, my mom and dad made it work, but I just…oh, I can’t explain Ari.
“Try, please.” Ari looked at her, his hands gripping her face a little more, his thumbs stroking large arcs over her cheeks.
“I’m not sure you know how to strike a balance Ari. Between this and-“ she blinked and looked down as Ari licked his lips as his hands dropped to her hips.
“Hannah, it’s irrelevant…” “What do you mean it’s irrelevant?” she frowned “I think it’s highly relevant all things considered!”
“Look…” Ari took a deep breath “I never told you this, hell, I never told anyone this because I still wasn’t totally sure until a few weeks ago  but I’ve kinda decided that this mission is gonna be my last one in the field.” Whatever Hannah had been expecting Ari to say, it wasn’t that. As the implications of his words crashed over her she could do nothing but gape at him as he shrugged and continued.
“I’m 37 this year sweetheart, I've been doing this for longer than I care to remember. It’s dangerous and, well I’ve missed so much of Maya growing up I don’t wanna miss anymore or god forbid leave her behind for good should something happen.” He sighed, “Sarah’s right. I was a shit husband and a shit dad, I owe it to Maya to a least be a little less shit going forward.”
“Ari, I…” Hannah took a deep breath and shook her head “I’m not asking you to quit…” “I know.” He assured her, “And with the greatest of respect, I’m not doing it for you, I’m doing it for Munch.”
The relief crashed over Hannah in a wave. She’d been scared, not simply that Sarah had been right, but that if he did quit it would be for her, putting her first, and she didn’t want that. His daughter should be top of his priority list and to hear that it had finally hit home to him, well, it brought her a reprieve from the nagging feeling of guilt and turmoil she’d been feeling since she’d left that coffee shop in Tel Aviv. She looked up at her man, the smile creeping across her face and he dropped his head to rest against hers.
“Is that all that was bothering you?” he asked softly and she nodded in response. “So, are we good?”
“Yeah, we’re good.”
“Thank fuck for that, because I really wanna kiss you Han.”
She grinned and blinked looking up at him. “Nothing stopping you.”
With a flick of his eyebrow, Ari pulled her closer and dropped his face to hers, pressing their lips together. He kissed her softly at first before his tongue slid across her bottom lip and she opened her mouth, letting out a soft sigh. Ari’s tongue lashed against the roof of her mouth as his hand slid upwards, tangling in her hair, the kiss deepening…
And then there was a knock at the door, punctuated by a responding bark from Simon.
“For fucks sake…” Ari groaned, as Hannah shrugged a little, moving to open it.
Rachel peered back at her, a little sheepishly “Sorry to intrude but, well, I wasn’t sure if you’d be joining us for dinner?”
“Dur.” Hannah nodded back as behind her, Ari sat on the edge of her bed, picking up the letter from Maya.
“Ok, I’ll let Aziz know. I’ll leave you to it.” Rachel smiled, and with that she was gone. Hannah turned round to see Ari opening the letter, pulling out the paper from the envelope.
“If you want to read that alone, I won’t be offended.” She began but Ari shook his head. Silently, Hannah sat next to him as he began to ready Maya’s untidy scrawl, his eyes misting over. It was nothing out of the ordinary, telling him about school, her friends, how Sarah had taken her to the zoo the previous weekend and she’d seen a man holding a snake, the typical ramblings he’d expect from a 7-almost 8-year old, but it was the first ever letter he’d had from her when on a mission and it choked him up, especially the bit when he said she hoped that Simon and Hannah were both ok too.
“She err…” Ari swallowed and looked at Hannah who gently reached out and brushed a tear from his cheek, a tear he hadn’t realise he’d shed “She says she hopes you and Simon are both ok.” Hannah smiled “Yeah, Sarah said she’d asked after me.”
“Han…” his voice broke and Hannah sighed, wrapping her arms around him as he buried his face into the crook of her shoulder. This was a side to Ari Levinson that very few people knew existed, a vulnerable, almost childish side. A side that just wanted to be comforted and loved, seeking out strength instead of giving it. Hannah knew that everyone took it for granted that he was the stalwart, forever stoic leader and forgot that underneath the cool agent façade there was a gentle, kind man. A flawed human, but a human all the same.  She gently rubbed at his back as he sniffed a little, pressing his face further into her neck. Hannah dropped a kiss to the top of his head and he pulled away, wiping at his eyes.
“You know…” she said softly, her head pressing to his “I really did miss the beach. Reckon Guy can sneak an afternoon off to spend with Rosa?” “Guy can take as much time to spend with Rosa as Rosa wants.” He smiled, pressing a soft kiss to her lips.
***** After clearing it with Rachel that neither of them were needed, the pair of them spent a nice afternoon together. They took 3 mile walk round the cliff edge, Simon examining the usual nooks and crannies as they walked hand in hand behind him. The sun blazed hot on both their necks and even in the late afternoon it showed no sign of giving up as they made their way back to the resort. Choosing a secluded spot away from any guests, not far from their cave, they flopped down onto the sand. Hannah pulled off her sundress and lay back as Ari shed his T-shirt and sat next to her, watching her for a moment, simply drinking her in before he lay back next to her and they continued to talk and laugh.  An hour or so later, just as the sun was starting to dip to the horizon, both were sticky and sweaty from the heat, and when Hannah suggested they should shower up before dinner Ari quipped he had a better idea.
“What…” Hannah’s voice turned into a shriek as Ari scooped her up and began walking quickly to the sea. “Lobo, don’t you dare!”
“Dare what?” he asked, wading in a little so the water was lapping at his waist.
“You know what!” she clung round his neck, laughing a little.
“No, sorry, can’t hear you…” he shook his head, wading a little further towards the spot he knew the shallow sand underneath him dropped a little, making the water deeper and cooler. Hannah glared at him and struggled in his arms
“I fucking swear to God…” but she was cut off as Ari gently tossed her into the waves where she disappeared under. She broke surface a split second later, spluttering as she wiped her hair back out of her face and saw Ari laughing at her, his entire handsome face creased up as his head tipped back, right hand reaching for his left pec. "El cabron..." she hissed the Spanish word for asshole at him, just one of the many insults in her mama's native tongue that he recognised, and swept her arm in a huge arc over the surface of the ocean, sending a wave of sorts straight over Ari's head. Shaking his hair off his face with the manner of a dog, Ari chuckled and reached out for her, his fingers digging and teasing a little  on her ribs where he knew she was especially sensitive. She wriggled a little, her hands resting on his broad chest as she tried to push away. Ari wasn't letting go though but he took pity, laughing as her head tipped back a little, her hands sliding up towards his face. Her delicate fingers tangled in his beard and she looked at him as his hands settled on her hips, guiding her towards him a little more. Her legs wrapped around his waist as it was too deep for her to stand up, and Ari remained with his feet planted on the soft sandy floor of the ocean, large hands on her back, submerged to his shoulders. And for the first time in a week, Ari felt at peace. "I missed you Firefly." He said softly as her lips gently brushed his before she pulled back to study his face, her arms round his neck. "I missed you too Mi Lobo." She smiled, her blue eyes as deep as the ocean they were currently bobbing in sparkled with love and lust and Ari's mouth was drier than it had ever been in his life. He felt a twitch in his groin, his arousal spiking and he actively fought back the groan that was bubbling in his throat. Fuck, she could reduce him to an absolute wreck, bring him to his knees both physically and metaphorically with a simple look in his direction. He needed her. "I'm thirsty Firefly..." he could taste the salt on her skin as his lips brushed her ear and she gave a shudder at his words, and he knew why. They were the same words he'd spoken to her one night when they had been together the first time round and Ari had been away for a week. He'd likened not seeing her to being deprived of water, to which she'd called him a dramatic asshole and laughed. Which was precisely what she was doing now. “There’s water everywhere.” Her voice was loaded with humour yet carried an undercover of suggestiveness his hands slid down to cup her ass. “But not a drop to drink.” He arched an eyebrow as he flexed his hips up slightly, bumping his semi-erect cock up against her core. Hannah gave a little moan as she clung to Ari, before she arched into him even more, pressing her lips to his. Ari kissed her, furiously, tongues thrashing together as their teeth clashed, Ari's large hands sliding up Hannah's back, pinning her to him. One hand moved down her spine and slid round and over her hips, dipping into her bikini bottoms. Hannah gave a dirty croak in her throat as he started teasing her clit, his movements slow and deliberate and her hips soon began to work against his hand, desperately seeking out a way to satisfy the craving his touch was giving her. She was on fire. She wanted more, she needed more. "Ari..." she whispered, licking her lips as she reached down and wrapped a hand around his wrist. "Wanna feel you..." "Yeah?" His lips brushed hers and she nodded as his fingers plunged into her channel making her cry out. "Feel me like that?" She panted as his fingers continued, coaxing her to the brink. Hannah closed her eyes as she teetered on that edge, so close to falling but Ari stopped his movements abruptly. She gave a little choked moan at being so close but when she felt him shift underneath her, his hands leaving her body, she knew she wasn't going to feel dissatisfied for much longer. She felt the material of his swim shorts brush against her leg as he moved them down and she pressed her lips to his, kissing him again. His hand gently moved her swimwear bottoms to one side as she dropped one hand from his shoulder into the water, taking his cock in her palm causing him to hiss as she lined him up. With a slow, power full thrust upwards he filled her and Hannah rolled her head back in pleasure, her mouth open in a silent moan as she welcomed the familiar stretch. “God, Ari..." she gasped, her bikini clad breasts jostling with the staccato breath as she rose slightly out of the water. Her nails were biting his skin as her hands tightened on his shoulders. Her back was arched, her beautiful body open to him, and when Ari bottomed out he laid his forehead on her chest and breathed in. "My good girl, takes me so well..." he praised as he kissed her skin trailing a path up her sternum and throat until he met her lips, the salt from her skin was tangy on his taste buds. He began to trust slowly, deeply, rolling his hips as Hannah worked herself on him, desperately. “More.” she begged and Ari all but growled at her plea. "I need more, Lobo..." Ari rutted upwards furiously, over and over and Hannah's back arched in pleasure. He leaned forward, nipping at her neck, then soothing the sting of his bites with his tongue as he slid his hand into her hair at the base of her skull and pressed his lips to hers, keeping her head anchored in place. The kiss because sloppy and she panted into his mouth, lips parted. "Ari...I'm gonna..."  her words died off as Ari kissed her again swallowing the involuntary shaky whimper she made as she came, clenching around him. He thrust through her orgasm, picking up the pace as he rushed towards his own end and with a deep thrust he stilled as the pleasure pulsed through him, his cock twitching as he emptied himself inside her. With a few final and shallow thrusts he stilled, his forehead resting against hers as he breathed deeply, eyes closed, waiting for the world to right itself.
“You ok?” Ari asked, his breathing deep and Hannah gave a soft hum of response as his nose brushed against hers, as she opened her eyes to look at him, her entire face lit up with that blissful happiness he’d come to know and love even more this time round.
It was pretty dark now, and aware that they were in the middle of the ocean, Ari pulled back and placed a kiss to Hannah’s head.
“Come on Firefly, it’s been a long day. Let’s get some dinner and then we can go to bed.” He said softly and she gave a little sigh as he shifted, pulling out of her, readjusting his shorts all the while keeping her supported. She kept her legs round his waist as he walked them to the shallower water and then when he attempted to stand up she refused to let go, giving a giggle as he sighed, shaking his head. “Seriously?”
“You said yourself, it’s been a long day.” She grinned “I’m tired.” “You’re actually gonna make me carry you up the beach?”
“Yup.” She nodded.
“Fucking brat.” He snorted and she laughed, pressing a kiss to his lips.
“If you’re a good boy and do as I ask, then maybe after dinner I’ll show you how grateful I am.”
“Well, when you put it like that…” Ari grinned and stood up quickly hooking his arms under her legs as he swooped her up out of the water, bridal style. Her laughs carried across the slight breeze as he walked them down the still warm, sugar white sand towards her hut.
The morning the tourist board visit was due Ari woke up early, which was unusual ever since he started sharing the bed with Hannah. Actually, it wasn't that unusual, he was still an early bird but he liked to lay in with her in his arms once both of them were awake until they heard someone else was up and it was time for them to tend to breakfast for the guests. He stretched and turned his head a little, grinning as he felt Hannah’s face by his head, but then he wrinkled his nose as she was licking his ear.
Ok, so that was new.
"Han…" he chuckled "Babe…"
Then there was a little whine followed by a tiny bark. Ari frowned and opened one eye to realise that it was in fact Simon’s tongue that was stuck in his ear.
"Gross pal… gross." he groaned as he shoved the dog away from his face. Ari then rolled onto his back and ran a hand through his hair, smiling as he realised Hannah was due back that day. 7 long days and nights without her, it had been crap. And he had to admit, he hadn’t been in a great mood. In fact, if he was being fully honest, he was totally aware he had been a nightmare to the rest of the team. And he still wasn’t particularly pleased he couldn’t go pick her up but… well, she’d be home in… he reached over for his watch and saw it was just gone 7:30 so she’d be home in round about 5 hours all things considered.
That made him smile again, it really wasn’t long at all now. So he stretched out, before he swung his legs out of bed, got dressed, shoved on his sneakers and then whistled to Simon. He opened his door and stepped out onto the sand, the sea lightly illuminated by the early morning sun, and the two of them headed out for a run before the rest of the resort awoke.
About an hour or so later after a jog and a slower walk down the coast path Ari returned, showered and headed down to the main building. The rest of the team was already at the table for breakfast. After nodding to a few guests he sat down next to Sammy, reaching for the coffee pot.
"Morning." he greeted, his tone chipper, as he poured a cup.
"Oh my God." Max gasped.
"What?"
Max ignored Ari and turned to Jake instead. "Did you see that?"
Jake nodded. "I know man, I can’t believe it."
“Believe what? Ari asked, looking around the table.
"You, smiling." Max explained with a grin across his face.
Ari rolled his eyes. "Oh, fuck off."
Besides him Sammy sniggered so Ari playfully gave him a dig with his elbow and Sammy laughed even harder, rubbing his side.
"I’m glad you’re in a good mood today because Madibo will be here in 2 hours or so and we don’t need a bratty owner. So you need to stay as charming Guy Thomas and not the sulking, whiny bitch you’ve been for the past week." Rachel instructed, looking intently at him.
Ari was about to argue but Rachel narrowed her eyes at him and he sighed, shrugging. Truth be told he had no argument.
"Oh he’ll be charming alright… but not for Madibo." Jake joked and Max let out his characteristic laugh.
"Oh come on, I’ve not been that bad." Ari tried to defend himself.
The entire table started to scoff and took turns in pointing out to him that he had been that bad and Ari snorted, shaking his head.
"You’ve been worse than Sammy is." Rachel deadpanned but her eyes were soft on Sammy who played the offended victim
"Hey!"
"She’s right." Max agreed.
"Ok, I’ll admit…I’ve been a little bit tetchy." Ari said as he lowered his head in defeat.
"I bet when me or Max leave no one is gonna bat an eyelid." Max quipped. At that point Simon barked and Jake acknowledged him
 "Thanks buddy, I’ll miss you too."
There was a roar of laughter and then Sammy turned to Ari. "You know tetchy doesn’t even begin to describe it."
"Fuck you Sammy." Ari jokingly retorted.
Sammy laughed and stood up. "All right, I’m so overwhelmed with the love you are all giving me this morning."
"What are you doing? Sit down and shut up." Ari commanded, shaking his head.
"I can’t. I need to shower and then set off to pick my sister up. You remember her?"
"No, he doesn’t. Absolutely not…" Max said playfully.
"You know what, Navon…" Ari trailed off as Sammy grinned at him as he snatched up another piece of toast and left the table. "Drive safe! Be careful with the cargo" Ari called across the room.
Max and Jake both snorted as Sammy flicked Ari the bird over his shoulder before he left the room. And Rachel sighed before she demanded their attention and started telling them her plan for Madibo.
"So Jake is going to start with the diving area, show him the facilities, how we run the tours, take him out on a boat to show him the diving spots from the surface."
"Yeah if I take him over the wreck he’ll be able to see it." Jake offered.
Rachel nodded before continuing. "Then a tour of the rest of the facility, show him what we’ve done with the place. He can speak to a few guests. I don't know, see the guest book and the reviews. And then lunch."
"Great, sounds good. Where do you want me?" Ari asked.
"With Madibo. At all times. You’re the owner. You did the negotiations with him." she explained and Ari nodded.
"Ok. Stuck to Madibo it is.”
"Am I doing anything?" Max asked.
"Like what? Showing him how you twist and bend in your pyjama pants." Jake replied, throwing him a piece of toast from his plate.
"Says the tanning scarecrow." Max glared at him as he dodge the flying food.
"Don't play with the food.” Ari instructed before he looked at Max “And actually you can keep an eye on Simon."
 "Are you sure you trust me with your itty bitty baby puppy?" Max looked at Ari questioning his suggestion. "Just two days ago you wanted to kill me for, and I quote, pup-napping your precious pooch."
"Better than letting him fuck Madibo’s leg." Jake scoffed.
"Exactly… that or biting him." Ari sided with Jake.
"He wouldn’t hump him. It's been a week since he saw that. Dogs have short term memories." Max offered casually.
"Ok, now shut the fuck up." Ari raised his voice.
"No, they don’t! How do they remember to sit and lay down if they only have a short term memory?" Jake inquired.
"Same as you remember to get dressed in the morning but can’t remember what you ate yesterday." Max explained and shrugged.
"Will you all shut up and help me clear the table?" Rachel said, standing up to remark with her actions she wanted the nonsense to be over.
 "Not sure I remember how." Jake snorted, amused at his own wit, which earned him a slap round the back of the head from Rachel.
**** The line for passport control was taking for ever and Hannah was losing patience. She had always hated this part of travelling plus her feeling of impatience was compounded by knowing that Ari was literally the other side of the door she could see. Finally she was called forward and after smiling at the Immigration officer who stamped her passport she walked through with her bag in her hand and out of the doors into the warm Sudan air. She glanced around for Ari, ready to leap into his arms, but she couldn’t see him. Instead she spotted Sammy waiting by the jeep. He smiled and came towards her and she grinned back, giving him a hug.
“Try not to look too disappointed I’m not Ari.” Her brother chuckled and Hannah snorted.
“Oh shut up, I’m just as happy to see you”
“Yeah right!” Sammy pulled back and picked up her bag as Hannah gave a roll of her eyes and followed him back to the jeep.
“How’s everyone been?” she asked.
“Good.” Sammy nodded “Ari nearly killed Max and Jake on Monday.” He tossed her bag into the back.
“Why?” Hannah asked as she climbed into the car.
“They took Simon out on the boat. Ari thought he’d lost him…kinda went a little bit mad, not as mad as he did when he got told he couldn’t pick you up.”
“Yeah why is that?”
“We got a tourist board visit.” Sammy answered as he set off “He’s with Colonel Madibo now, so when you arrive, you’re Rosa…”
“Noted.” Hannah nodded “So other than that has everyone been ok?”
“Yeah, other than Ari, he’s been a pain in the ass. Clinging to that dog like it’s his fucking kid…”
Hannah grinned and looked out of the window as they eased onto the main freeway out of the city. But, after a few minutes or so her grin slipped.  Sarah’s words had been stuck in her mind all day and night, and the worst bit about their conversation yesterday was that Hannah had wanted to tell Sarah she was wrong. She’d wanted to defend Ari but had been unable to because Sarah was right. He had put them second. And if Sarah’s comments about how Ari had refused to go to her wedding because he had still loved her were true, then that made her feel even worse about the whole situation, that she could somehow be responsible for Ari being the reckless asshole he was with regards to his marriage.
Hannah needed reassurance more than anything, reassurance that wasn’t the case and also an affirmation that once all this was over, he wasn’t just going to swan off into the sunset and leave her behind again. And whilst she could understand that he might not quit this life, and Hannah was ok with that, she knew that it could work because she’d seen her mother and father do so, what worried her was that her dad had manage to strike a balance . She wasn’t sure that Ari would be able to.
The only thing she did know was that if she had to watch Ari walk away again, it would kill her.
**** Ari, Rachel, Madibo and the two men he’d brought with him were just finishing lunch when Ari heard the sound of the jeep approaching. He tried to bite back his smile and caught Rachel’s eye. The look on her face told him his was failing, miserably.
“Do we have company Mr Thomas?” Colonel Madibo frowned and looked at him, clearly having picked up the sound of the engine which was now louder as the jeep had pulled up outside. Ari hesitated and then thought, what the hell. He and Hannah weren’t a secret, plus the team had already stated at length how much it actually added to their cover. He took a deep breath and looked at the man, smiling “It’s My girlfriend, Rosa-“ Ari didn’t miss the smile that flickered across Rachel’s face when he uttered the words “-she’s been home to Spain for a week to see her mother. One of the other guys went to pick her up before.”
“Oh, I didn’t know you were running this place as a partnership?” Madibo looked at him and Ari took a breath
“We weren’t…it’s…” he paused, rubbing his neck “…well, it’s a long story but we go way back and…”
“Say no more Mr Thomas, I get it.” Madibo grinned “The magic of the Red Sea” The man turned his head to look out of the large open lattice doors across the beach before he turned back to Ari “There is something very romantic about being by the ocean.”
“There certainly is.” Ari agreed with a smile. At that point he heard Hannah’s voice drifting down the hallway into the dining room as she jabbered away to her brother, her Spanish accent impeccable thanks to Sammy clearly having warned her about their visitors. Ari turned to look as she walked into the room dressed casually in jeans and a light blue button down sleeveless blouse. Her eyes met his and she beamed at him, a flash of what looked like relief crossed her face and he grinned, standing up. He crossed towards her and gave her a hug.
“Hi.” Hannah said gently into his ear.
“Hi yourself.” He replied, pulling back and giving her a quick kiss “Was your flight ok?”
Hannah nodded “No brat kicking my chair so…”
Ari laughed and then looked at Sammy who raised his eyebrows in the direction of the table. Slipping back in to professional, Guy Thomas mode he nodded and smiled.
“Come on guys, let me introduce you to our guests.” He took Hannah’s hand and led her to the table. “Colonel Madibo this is Rosa Garcia, she’s in charge of guest relations and this is Liam Anderson…” Ari gestured to Sammy “Our entertainment manager who also doubles up as our site doctor.”
“Pleasure to meet you both.” Madibo rose from his chair. He shook Sammy’s and then took Hannah’s clamping his other hand over the top of hers. He looked at her, smiling, before he turned to Ari “You are a lucky man Mr Thomas.”
Ari raised his eyebrows and smiled, looking at Hannah who flushed as Madibo let go of her hand. “I sure am.” He then turned to Hannah and frowned a little at the look on her face. She was smiling, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes, almost like she was nervous. Maybe she was, after all, Madibo and his guard were quite imposing when all was said and done.
“I don’t mean to be rude, but I’ve had a long flight and need to freshen up.” She spoke, a little shyly “Would you please excuse me?”
“Of course, of course Miss Garcia.” Madibo bowed a little “It was a pleasure to meet you.” “You too Colonel.” She smiled, and turned to give Rachel a quick hug before she reached for her bag.
“I’ll do that.” Ari offered “I’ll fetch it in a little while.”
“Ok, thanks” she nodded, before she turned to leave, but paused, spinning back to look at Ari “Where’s Simon.” “With Max and Jake.” Ari said.
She nodded and gave them all another stiff sile before she scurried away.
Now Ari was sure something was bothering her. He looked at Sammy for some kind of clue but he was clearly as puzzled as he was as he shrugged slightly. He then turned to Rachel who met him with a blank look of her own. But, before he could dwell on it too much, Madibo spoke again causing Ari to turn back to him.
“We should be going anyway now, but I’m pleased with what you’ve done with the place.” The Colonel looked around, smiling “My report back to the President will be very favourable.”
“All free of charge, I hope.” Ari quipped and Madibo laughed, pointing at him
“You’re a funny man Mr Thomas!”
Rachel shot Ari a warning look and he simply shrugged, giving her a cheeky grin. They followed Madibo and his 2 guards out to the truck where they shook hands, thanked him for coming and bid him goodbye. No sooner had the truck gone Ari strode back inside, picked up Hannah’s bag and headed off towards her hut. She hadn’t made it back there, however, instead he found her halfway down the beach, crouching on the sand by Max with Simon going bananas as he jumped all over her, his tail wagging furiously, excited little whines coming from him as he licked her face.
“You happy to see momma buddy?” Ari chuckled as he stopped by her side.
“No, that’s his sad face.” Max deadpanned and Ari laughed, dropping a hand to Hannah’s head, gently caressing her hair.
“You ok Firefly?”
“Yeah, just tired.” Hannah stood up and looked at him.
“Wanna go rest?” he asked, his mind straying to the fact he was quite happy to go curl up next to her on the bed, maybe a little bit of something else, and from the snort that came from Max he wasn’t the only one thinking such things. “Piss off.” Ari turned to him, raising an eyebrow.
Max laughed “I’m gone…” Hannah and Ari both watched him leave and Ari wrapped his arms round Hannah’s back, pulling her into him, giving her a deep kiss. He pulled away, his nose bumping hers. “Wanna go lay down for a while?” Hannah shook her head. “No, if I do I won’t sleep later. Think I’m gonna get changed and hit the beach.” She said, glancing around.
“Oh, ok.” Ari tried not to sound too disappointed. He hadn’t seen her in over a week and she was pushing him away.  Now he knew for sure something was wrong, but he also knew if he pushed her too hard she’d clam up even more. Hannah looked at him, and he clearly hadn’t done as good a job of hiding his disappointment as he hoped as she took a deep breath, sliding her arms round his waist as she pressed into him, her cheek against his chest.
“I have something for you from Maya.” She said gently
Ari looked down frowning “You saw Maya?”
“No, I saw Sarah.”
“What?” his frown deepened.
“She left a note with Ethan, asking me to call her.” Hannah shrugged, stepping back.
“Why?”
“She wanted to talk to me.”
“What about?”
“Take a guess Ari” Hannah sighed and went to pick up her bag. Ari bat her hand away and picked it up, taking her hand in his spare as they walked silently towards her hut, Simon trotting in front of them. For the first time in weeks it was a little awkward between them, Ari unsure exactly what to say whereas Hannah was simply exhausted both physically and mentally. The relief she had felt upon seeing Ari had melted away and she was back to dwelling on what Sarah had said. Once they were inside her hut, Ari dropped Hannah’s bag on her bed. Without a word she reached into it and pulled out the envelope addressed to Daddy. Ari took it, glanced at the writing on the front, his breath catching a little before he looked at Hannah. “You know, you didn’t need to meet her.”
“Well I did, it wasn’t a big deal.”
“It clearly is.” Ari bit back, an air of frustration in his voice “I can tell somethings bothering you Hannah, so what did she want?”
“She was just curious I guess.” “Curious about what?” Ari’s temper was starting to fray and Hannah let out a growl of annoyance.
“About, us Ari, what do you think? She basically asked me outright if I loved you, then told me to ask you why you never came to my wedding and…” she paused as Ari groaned as he ran a hand through his hair, shaking his head. “She said it was because you couldn’t bear to see me marry someone else.” Hannah looked at Ari, shaking her head. “Is that true?”
“Hannah, does it really matter?”
“It matters to me, yes!”
Ari sighed, looking down at the floor as he shook his head “Look, I loved Sarah, you know this…”
“For fucks sake, just tell me the truth Ari!”
“Yes, ok!” Ari snapped “The reason I didn’t come is because the thought of you with anyone else, well it made me sick. That what you wanted to hear?”
Hannah looked at him, blinking before she shrugged. “I don’t know to be honest with you.”
“Han…” “She made me feel like shit, Ari!” Hannah looked up at him, tears in her eyes “She basically said you’d been in love with me for the entire time you’d been married to her, that she was second best and…”
“For fucks sake…” Ari shook his head “She had no right to put that on you, no right at all.”
Hannah looked down at her feet, “I can’t blame her, Ari. I’d be the same in her position.”
Ari swallowed as he glanced at his feet, looking again at the letter in his hand before he raised his head to Hannah once more. “Did she say anything else?”
Hannah snorted “She wished me good luck, said I was gonna need it.”
“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” Ari bit back angrily and Hannah let out a scoff.
“She meant when all this is over, the mission and we go back home.” She glanced at Ari and he was surprised now to see the angry fire in her eyes. “She said that she had never managed to stop you leaving before, even when she was pregnant and was basically implying that once we’re home and out of this little bubble then it would all be different and you’d leave me behind…”
“Ok, no, stop…” Ari held his hand up, tossing the letter onto her bed. “Firefly, listen…” he gently took her face in his hands “That’s not gonna happen. I told you before, I’m not letting you go again.”
“I know you did, and I believe you I do.” She shook her head “And I know that it’s different for us because I’ve lived this life too and I get what being in Mossad means, you know, my mom and dad made it work, but I just…oh, I can’t explain Ari.
“Try, please.” Ari looked at her, his hands gripping her face a little more, his thumbs stroking large arcs over her cheeks.
“I’m not sure you know how to strike a balance Ari. Between this and-“ she blinked and looked down as Ari licked his lips as his hands dropped to her hips.
“Hannah, it’s irrelevant…” “What do you mean it’s irrelevant?” she frowned “I think it’s highly relevant all things considered!”
“Look…” Ari took a deep breath “I never told you this, hell, I never told anyone this because I still wasn’t totally sure until a few weeks ago  but I’ve kinda decided that this mission is gonna be my last one in the field.” Whatever Hannah had been expecting Ari to say, it wasn’t that. As the implications of his words crashed over her she could do nothing but gape at him as he shrugged and continued.
“I’m 37 this year sweetheart, I've been doing this for longer than I care to remember. It’s dangerous and, well I’ve missed so much of Maya growing up I don’t wanna miss anymore or god forbid leave her behind for good should something happen.” He sighed, “Sarah’s right. I was a shit husband and a shit dad, I owe it to Maya to a least be a little less shit going forward.”
“Ari, I…” Hannah took a deep breath and shook her head “I’m not asking you to quit…” “I know.” He assured her, “And with the greatest of respect, I’m not doing it for you, I’m doing it for Munch.”
The relief crashed over Hannah in a wave. She’d been scared, not simply that Sarah had been right, but that if he did quit it would be for her, putting her first, and she didn’t want that. His daughter should be top of his priority list and to hear that it had finally hit home to him, well, it brought her a reprieve from the nagging feeling of guilt and turmoil she’d been feeling since she’d left that coffee shop in Tel Aviv. She looked up at her man, the smile creeping across her face and he dropped his head to rest against hers.
“Is that all that was bothering you?” he asked softly and she nodded in response. “So, are we good?”
“Yeah, we’re good.”
“Thank fuck for that, because I really wanna kiss you Han.”
She grinned and blinked looking up at him. “Nothing stopping you.”
With a flick of his eyebrow, Ari pulled her closer and dropped his face to hers, pressing their lips together. He kissed her softly at first before his tongue slid across her bottom lip and she opened her mouth, letting out a soft sigh. Ari’s tongue lashed against the roof of her mouth as his hand slid upwards, tangling in her hair, the kiss deepening…
And then there was a knock at the door, punctuated by a responding bark from Simon.
“For fucks sake…” Ari groaned, as Hannah shrugged a little, moving to open it.
Rachel peered back at her, a little sheepishly “Sorry to intrude but, well, I wasn’t sure if you’d be joining us for dinner?”
“Dur.” Hannah nodded back as behind her, Ari sat on the edge of her bed, picking up the letter from Maya.
“Ok, I’ll let Aziz know. I’ll leave you to it.” Rachel smiled, and with that she was gone. Hannah turned round to see Ari opening the letter, pulling out the paper from the envelope.
“If you want to read that alone, I won’t be offended.” She began but Ari shook his head. Silently, Hannah sat next to him as he began to ready Maya’s untidy scrawl, his eyes misting over. It was nothing out of the ordinary, telling him about school, her friends, how Sarah had taken her to the zoo the previous weekend and she’d seen a man holding a snake, the typical ramblings he’d expect from a 7-almost 8-year old, but it was the first ever letter he’d had from her when on a mission and it choked him up, especially the bit when he said she hoped that Simon and Hannah were both ok too.
“She err…” Ari swallowed and looked at Hannah who gently reached out and brushed a tear from his cheek, a tear he hadn’t realise he’d shed “She says she hopes you and Simon are both ok.” Hannah smiled “Yeah, Sarah said she’d asked after me.”
“Han…” his voice broke and Hannah sighed, wrapping her arms around him as he buried his face into the crook of her shoulder. This was a side to Ari Levinson that very few people knew existed, a vulnerable, almost childish side. A side that just wanted to be comforted and loved, seeking out strength instead of giving it. Hannah knew that everyone took it for granted that he was the stalwart, forever stoic leader and forgot that underneath the cool agent façade there was a gentle, kind man. A flawed human, but a human all the same.  She gently rubbed at his back as he sniffed a little, pressing his face further into her neck. Hannah dropped a kiss to the top of his head and he pulled away, wiping at his eyes.
“You know…” she said softly, her head pressing to his “I really did miss the beach. Reckon Guy can sneak an afternoon off to spend with Rosa?” “Guy can take as much time to spend with Rosa as Rosa wants.” He smiled, pressing a soft kiss to her lips.
***** After clearing it with Rachel that neither of them were needed, the pair of them spent a nice afternoon together. They took 3 mile walk round the cliff edge, Simon examining the usual nooks and crannies as they walked hand in hand behind him. The sun blazed hot on both their necks and even in the late afternoon it showed no sign of giving up as they made their way back to the resort. Choosing a secluded spot away from any guests, not far from their cave, they flopped down onto the sand. Hannah pulled off her sundress and lay back as Ari shed his T-shirt and sat next to her, watching her for a moment, simply drinking her in before he lay back next to her and they continued to talk and laugh.  An hour or so later, just as the sun was starting to dip to the horizon, both were sticky and sweaty from the heat, and when Hannah suggested they should shower up before dinner Ari quipped he had a better idea.
“What…” Hannah’s voice turned into a shriek as Ari scooped her up and began walking quickly to the sea. “Lobo, don’t you dare!”
“Dare what?” he asked, wading in a little so the water was lapping at his waist.
“You know what!” she clung round his neck, laughing a little.
“No, sorry, can’t hear you…” he shook his head, wading a little further towards the spot he knew the shallow sand underneath him dropped a little, making the water deeper and cooler. Hannah glared at him and struggled in his arms
“I fucking swear to God…” but she was cut off as Ari gently tossed her into the waves where she disappeared under. She broke surface a split second later, spluttering as she wiped her hair back out of her face and saw Ari laughing at her, his entire handsome face creased up as his head tipped back, right hand reaching for his left pec. "El cabron..." she hissed the Spanish word for asshole at him, just one of the many insults in her mama's native tongue that he recognised, and swept her arm in a huge arc over the surface of the ocean, sending a wave of sorts straight over Ari's head. Shaking his hair off his face with the manner of a dog, Ari chuckled and reached out for her, his fingers digging and teasing a little  on her ribs where he knew she was especially sensitive. She wriggled a little, her hands resting on his broad chest as she tried to push away. Ari wasn't letting go though but he took pity, laughing as her head tipped back a little, her hands sliding up towards his face. Her delicate fingers tangled in his beard and she looked at him as his hands settled on her hips, guiding her towards him a little more. Her legs wrapped around his waist as it was too deep for her to stand up, and Ari remained with his feet planted on the soft sandy floor of the ocean, large hands on her back, submerged to his shoulders. And for the first time in a week, Ari felt at peace. "I missed you Firefly." He said softly as her lips gently brushed his before she pulled back to study his face, her arms round his neck. "I missed you too Mi Lobo." She smiled, her blue eyes as deep as the ocean they were currently bobbing in sparkled with love and lust and Ari's mouth was drier than it had ever been in his life. He felt a twitch in his groin, his arousal spiking and he actively fought back the groan that was bubbling in his throat. Fuck, she could reduce him to an absolute wreck, bring him to his knees both physically and metaphorically with a simple look in his direction. He needed her. "I'm thirsty Firefly..." he could taste the salt on her skin as his lips brushed her ear and she gave a shudder at his words, and he knew why. They were the same words he'd spoken to her one night when they had been together the first time round and Ari had been away for a week. He'd likened not seeing her to being deprived of water, to which she'd called him a dramatic asshole and laughed. Which was precisely what she was doing now. “There’s water everywhere.” Her voice was loaded with humour yet carried an undercover of suggestiveness his hands slid down to cup her ass. “But not a drop to drink.” He arched an eyebrow as he flexed his hips up slightly, bumping his semi-erect cock up against her core. Hannah gave a little moan as she clung to Ari, before she arched into him even more, pressing her lips to his. Ari kissed her, furiously, tongues thrashing together as their teeth clashed, Ari's large hands sliding up Hannah's back, pinning her to him. One hand moved down her spine and slid round and over her hips, dipping into her bikini bottoms. Hannah gave a dirty croak in her throat as he started teasing her clit, his movements slow and deliberate and her hips soon began to work against his hand, desperately seeking out a way to satisfy the craving his touch was giving her. She was on fire. She wanted more, she needed more. "Ari..." she whispered, licking her lips as she reached down and wrapped a hand around his wrist. "Wanna feel you..." "Yeah?" His lips brushed hers and she nodded as his fingers plunged into her channel making her cry out. "Feel me like that?" She panted as his fingers continued, coaxing her to the brink. Hannah closed her eyes as she teetered on that edge, so close to falling but Ari stopped his movements abruptly. She gave a little choked moan at being so close but when she felt him shift underneath her, his hands leaving her body, she knew she wasn't going to feel dissatisfied for much longer. She felt the material of his swim shorts brush against her leg as he moved them down and she pressed her lips to his, kissing him again. His hand gently moved her swimwear bottoms to one side as she dropped one hand from his shoulder into the water, taking his cock in her palm causing him to hiss as she lined him up. With a slow, power full thrust upwards he filled her and Hannah rolled her head back in pleasure, her mouth open in a silent moan as she welcomed the familiar stretch. “God, Ari..." she gasped, her bikini clad breasts jostling with the staccato breath as she rose slightly out of the water. Her nails were biting his skin as her hands tightened on his shoulders. Her back was arched, her beautiful body open to him, and when Ari bottomed out he laid his forehead on her chest and breathed in. "My good girl, takes me so well..." he praised as he kissed her skin trailing a path up her sternum and throat until he met her lips, the salt from her skin was tangy on his taste buds. He began to trust slowly, deeply, rolling his hips as Hannah worked herself on him, desperately. “More.” she begged and Ari all but growled at her plea. "I need more, Lobo..." Ari rutted upwards furiously, over and over and Hannah's back arched in pleasure. He leaned forward, nipping at her neck, then soothing the sting of his bites with his tongue as he slid his hand into her hair at the base of her skull and pressed his lips to hers, keeping her head anchored in place. The kiss because sloppy and she panted into his mouth, lips parted. "Ari...I'm gonna..."  her words died off as Ari kissed her again swallowing the involuntary shaky whimper she made as she came, clenching around him. He thrust through her orgasm, picking up the pace as he rushed towards his own end and with a deep thrust he stilled as the pleasure pulsed through him, his cock twitching as he emptied himself inside her. With a few final and shallow thrusts he stilled, his forehead resting against hers as he breathed deeply, eyes closed, waiting for the world to right itself.
“You ok?” Ari asked, his breathing deep and Hannah gave a soft hum of response as his nose brushed against hers, as she opened her eyes to look at him, her entire face lit up with that blissful happiness he’d come to know and love even more this time round.
It was pretty dark now, and aware that they were in the middle of the ocean, Ari pulled back and placed a kiss to Hannah’s head.
“Come on Firefly, it’s been a long day. Let’s get some dinner and then we can go to bed.” He said softly and she gave a little sigh as he shifted, pulling out of her, readjusting his shorts all the while keeping her supported. She kept her legs round his waist as he walked them to the shallower water and then when he attempted to stand up she refused to let go, giving a giggle as he sighed, shaking his head. “Seriously?”
“You said yourself, it’s been a long day.” She grinned “I’m tired.” “You’re actually gonna make me carry you up the beach?”
“Yup.” She nodded.
“Fucking brat.” He snorted and she laughed, pressing a kiss to his lips.
“If you’re a good boy and do as I ask, then maybe after dinner I’ll show you how grateful I am.”
“Well, when you put it like that…” Ari grinned and stood up quickly hooking his arms under her legs as he swooped her up out of the water, bridal style. Her laughs carried across the slight breeze as he walked them down the still warm, sugar white sand towards her hut.
Golden Rings 15: A Home
The Storybrooke sequel to Golden Cuffs
Mrs. Gold puts herself to bed
Read on AO3
Mrs. Gold rested her forehead against the passenger window of the squad car. The cold glass gave her something to focus on. Something real and solid in this swirling haze of booze and impossible facts.
Sheriff Swan was driving her home. Graham had done this, more times than she could remember. Whenever she was out making too much trouble to ignore, Graham would take her back to Mr. Gold.
Emma Swan was taking her away from him.
Graham had always been quiet, but Emma kept trying to talk. Mrs. Gold kept her face to the window and let the words wash over her.
“I know it’s hard to get out of a bad relationship. I can’t imagine what it’s like to get out of a bad marriage. But it’s really important that you learn to put yourself first. Put your own safety first. And if that means walking away--then you just gotta do the brave thing.”
Do the brave thing and bravery will follow.
The words felt weird in her head, foreign and familiar at the same time. Like something she had known once, but forgotten. What was she remembering it from? A movie? Some hokey book she’d read as a kid?
Mrs. Gold had never cared much about being brave. It didn’t take courage to do what Mr. Gold ordered her to. If she was being honest with herself, she did tend to obey him out of fear--fear of disappointing him, fear of his disdain. Fear of losing everything he gave her, especially those scant, precious fragments of himself.
“And I will help you! I just need you to tell me you need help.” Emma Swan was still talking. “Just give me a reason. I’m not afraid to use excessive force.”
She looked up. “On Mr. Gold?”
Emma pulled into the driveway of Mr. Gold’s house and parked the car. “Why not give a wife beater a taste of his own medicine?”
“He’s is not--”
“Yeah, but he’s not a responsible dominant either,” Emma cut her off. “The kinky stuff is based around trust, so you gotta find someone who’s trustworthy. Good for you if you like pain play, but for the love of God, don’t give that kind of power to someone who isn’t going to care about you.”
“I told you in the station, the problem isn’t how Mr. Gold uses me. The problem is that he hasn’t done anything with me in months!” Fighting off tears, Mrs. Gold unbuckled her seat belt and tried to bolt out of the car.
She got two steps toward the house before everything got all spinny again and she had to slow down. Before she knew it, Sheriff Swan was beside her, holding her up by the elbow.
“Okay, lightweight, whatever you say.”
Mrs. Gold jerked her arm away. “I’m alright on my own.”
“I’ll take your word for it.” She was still walking beside her. “Don’t worry, I’m not gonna tuck you into bed. Unless you invite me in or I have reason to believe a crime in progress, my jurisdiction ends at the front door.”
“Whatever,” Mrs. Gold muttered. She had Mr. Gold’s keys in her coat pocket. The weight of them was like ballast on a sailboat. They steadied her.
Emma followed behind her as she went up the porch steps. She waited by the door while Mrs. Gold fumbled with the keys. There were so many of them. Months ago, Mr. Gold had sent her out to have copies of the house and shop keys made for herself. That was one of the first strange things he’d done. Those keys were in her purse in the front hall. She still wasn’t used to letting herself come and go. Mr. Gold’s key was original to the house, a brass skeleton key from the 1890s. It wasn’t any trouble to open the door and walk in.
“You gonna get the lights?” Emma asked.
“No,” Mrs. Gold held her head high. “I like the dark.”
Emma raised her eyebrows. “Guess that’s your choice. But before I go, I gotta say it again: Call me, if you need help. Or if you have questions about how other people do BDSM. Or if you just wanna talk. Okay?”
Safe in the darkness, Mrs. Gold gave a condescending smile and a nod. “Sounds great.”
“Take care of yourself.”
“Sure,” she said. And shut the door.
****
She didn’t turn the lights on as she made her way to the kitchen. Mr. Gold’s house was big enough and clean enough that she never worried about bumping into things or stumbling over a pile of clutter. Nothing like the place where she’d grown up--cramped and filthy, piled high with junk. They never wanted to throw anything away. You never knew when you might need something that you hadn’t used in ten years, but you knew it was wrong to waste money on getting a new one when there was a perfectly good one around here somewhere.
Mr. Gold’s house was a better home than her father’s house had ever been.
She didn’t stop moving until she got the refrigerator. Wincing against the blinding light, she searched for a bottle of sparkling water. She put the cool glass against her swollen eyes and sighed. She kicked away her heels and leaned against the refrigerator door. When she drank, the bubbles popped sharply against the inside of her mouth. It was a needle-sharp pain, soothing in its way.
She’d never drunk sparkling water before she met Mr. Gold. They always used the tap, and if it tasted like dirt or sand, well that was just extra minerals. Not like they could do anything about it. If it tasted like chlorine or carcinogenic runoff from some factory upstream, they couldn’t do anything about that either. People like them just had to keep drinking what life gave them because they couldn’t afford anything better.
She’d have to go back to that--if anything happened between her and Mr. Gold. If he decided he didn’t want to be married to her anymore. Their pre-nuptial contract was very clear: If the marriage ended for any reason, Mr. Gold kept everything. Even her clothes and jewelry. Even her wedding ring.
And her father would have to start paying rent again. She’d never hear the end of that. Of course, she never heard the end of it when Mr. Gold told him he didn’t have to pay rent anymore. Or, more specifically, that whether or not he had to pay rent was entirely up to Mrs. Gold.
The idiot florist had hated hearing that. Mr. Gold had given his daughter financial control of his shop and his house. She could waive the rent or charge him double or kick him on the curb and burn the buildings to the ground as she saw fit. Her father had sputtered and raged and sworn a blue streak when he’d found out. But marrying Mr. Gold meant she didn’t have to listen to his tantrums anymore.
Would he take her back? If Mr. Gold kicked her out, would she even have the option of living with her father again?
He’d told her she could, on the day that she left. Her father had said that she could always come back. But she knew that he meant she could leave Mr. Gold and apologize for the unforgivable crime of liking sex. She could live with her father if she was willing to put herself on his idea of good behavior. If she never told him what she really thought about anything. If she was willing to cook and clean and slave away in the flower shop just so the two of them could have enough money to scrape by. Like she was a fucking teenager again.
Shitty as it would be to be back in that house, it was probably better than being homeless.
She finished the bottle and threw it in the trash. She still hadn’t turned on any of the lights. She could walk around Mr. Gold’s house blindfolded. In fact she had, many times. And on her hands and knees. And on a leash. And with a ten-inch dildo in every hole she had. That was how Mrs. Gold paid rent.
Do you have somebody you can stay with tonight?
Emma Swan’s words had been ringing through her head since she’d first heard them outside of Granny’s. She’d told the Sheriff that she didn’t have anyone. That was probably true. No one who would pick her up at the police station, at least. No one who would want to deal with her while she was drunk and emotional. No one wanted Mrs. Gold when she was at her worst.
Not even Mr. Gold.
****
The door to the bedroom was open. The bedroom, where all this trouble had begun. She’d had a dream that her husband loved her, and when she’d woken up, she’d tried to make it real.
But he had been dreaming about Belle.
Belle.
The name had a weird echo in her mind. The other woman. Her husband’s lover. The only other person she could blame for her unhappiness. Was Mr. Gold thinking about Belle now? Would he tell Belle that he had spent a night in jail?
Would he tell her he had done it so Mrs. Gold wouldn’t have to?
In the bathroom, she ran a washcloth under hot water and pressed it against her face. Most of her makeup had been cried off earlier, so the wash was more for warmth. When Mrs. Gold looked at herself in the mirror, all she saw was her own exhaustion. Red eyes, flushed cheeks, quivering lips. Even cleaned up, she was still a mess.
But Mr. Gold had put himself in jail for her.
She looked closer at her reflection, so close that she pressed her forehead to the glass. So close that she couldn’t see the whole of her face. She was just an abstraction, broken apart into pieces. What about her was worth that kind of sacrifice? What about her was worth anything? In the mirror, she was nothing but pink skin, dark lashes, sky blue eyes.
Mama’s eyes.
Mrs. Gold jerked away from the mirror like it had electrocuted her. Maybe it had. Something had to happen to make her hear a voice in her head.
It was her own voice. Only sadder, more gentle. That was how her thoughts had been in the squad car too. And she’d heard it before then. Off and on, in little flashes just like this. She’d been hearing it for weeks.
If there was anything creepier than hearing a voice in your head, it had to be agreeing with that voice. It was right, she did have Mom’s eyes. Sky-blue, just like Uncle Peter and  Andrew used to have. Just like Janine and Chloe still did.
But she had never thought of her mother as mama. That sounded like something from some historical drama where everyone wore ball gowns and corsets. Maybe she was being possessed by the spirit of a Regency aristocrat. Maybe one of her past lives was trying to communicate with her from beyond the grave.
Or maybe she was very, very drunk.
She turned the light off in the bathroom and peeled off her dress, then looked around her armoire for something she could sleep in. Mr. Gold had never bought her any comfortable pajamas, only negligees and skimpy short sets. In the past--which Mrs. Gold was about two weeks away from thinking of as “the good old days”--she’d rarely worn anything to bed. Once they got home, the only reason she wore clothes was so Mr. Gold could take them off. Especially her lingerie. Mr. Gold liked nothing more than to rip her underwear off her body and leave her in tattered rags before he fucked her
Mara Trudine probably couldn’t have kept Sugar ‘n’ Spice in business if Mrs. Gold hadn’t needed to restock on panties every week. Well, that was one way to help out an old friend.
There was one long sleeved tee-shirt in her wardrobe. It was mostly see-through, with a pattern of red velvet roses dotting the thin red mesh. In the magazine, the model had worn this shirt with a camisole underneath. Mrs. Gold was lucky if Mr. Gold let her wear a bra when she went out in this shirt.
But it was the closest thing to comfortable that she had. A pair of leggings would keep her legs warm. Mrs. Gold didn’t own any sweatpants or yoga pants--or any pants at all for that matter. Mr. Gold had always treasured the ability to grab her whenever he wanted her. Skirts and dresses provided the best access, so that was all he let her buy.
She sighed. Of course, that was in the past. The way Mr. Gold was acting now, he might as well have bought her a space suit to wear around town, helmet and all.
This was the first night she’d ever spent alone in this house. This was the first time she’d ever gotten into this bed and not expected Mr. Gold to join her. As she pulled back the quilt, Mrs. Gold was struck with a memory from last night: Her husband, trembling with rage, throwing this same blanket over her body before he left. She had tried to make love to him. She had tried to pretend to be Belle, just to get him to touch her. And he had seen it as a betrayal, a violation.
He was right.
Mrs. Gold knew that she had done wrong. Her actions were not just immoral, but incorrect. In trying to force her husband to be near her, she had only made him want to be further away. He had run away from her to the guest bedroom. Run and hid, like she was a monster.
Emma Swan kept trying to protect Mrs. Gold, but she didn’t understand. Mrs. Gold hadn’t just done wrong, she was wrong. She was the wrong person. It felt like she always had been. Wrong as a daughter, wrong as a friend, wrong as a student, wrong as a girlfriend.
Wrong as a wife.
For as long as she’d been married, she had told herself that the feeling of wrongness didn’t matter. No one’s opinion of her mattered except for Mr. Gold’s. She didn’t have to be good at anything else, as long as she was the slutwife he wanted. But over the past several months, he had made it clear how little he wanted anything to do with her. Maybe he hated her as much as everyone else in Storybrooke did.
She couldn’t sleep in this bed. This was their marriage bed. If their marriage was broken she’d be better off sleeping on the floor. At the very least, she would follow in Mr. Gold’s footsteps and run away to the guest room. There, she knew, she wouldn’t have the memory of Mr. Gold hating her. If he thought of Belle while he had waited for sleep last night, she didn’t know it for certain. She wouldn’t have to think about it.
With the lights still out, Mrs. Gold went across the hall to the other bedroom. Mr. Gold’s dressing gown hung from a hook behind the door. She buried her face in the silk and breathed in his scent. Before she could think about what she was doing, Mrs. Gold had wrapped the dressing gown around her body. She pulled it tightly over her shoulders, hugging herself, pretending Mr. Gold was holding her. Pretending that Mr. Gold would ever hold her again.
This bed was smaller than the one in their room. It felt less empty with only one person in it. The pillow smelled like Mr. Gold’s hair.
I love you.
The voice in her head again, saying what she wanted to say. She had never told Mr. Gold that she loved him. Until recently, she didn’t know that she had. Now the knowledge was a burden. It was an ache in her heart, a hole that would never be filled.
Everything was over.
****
He leaves her in a swirl of wine-red smoke, at exactly the stroke of midnight. He goes, to walk into a trap the two of them have all but set themselves. He goes, to keep her safe from his enemies. He goes, to lay down the final pieces of the plan that will--someday--lead to their complete happiness.
As he leaves, he keeps his face turned away from her. She understands. When he gets to where he is going, he will have to wear the mask of a devious trickster. Tears would spoil the effect.
Her eyes are moist as she watches him disappear.
Candlelight reflects the golden sparkles in the skin of his hands, the glinting crinkles of his hair. His leather-clad back has a dark gleam to it. He keeps his shoulders straight, his arms poised--ready to put on a show.
She cannot look away from him. She would say that she is memorizing him, but she already knows him by heart.
They will be together again.
She must believe that, even when he is gone from their home. She trusts her husband. She trusts the plan they have made together. She trusts herself. She will ensure that they are together again. She can do the brave thing and know that bravery will follow. Though the power she has is small and meager, there is enough determination in her to move the world if she needs to.
If Rumple needs her to.
She cannot stay staring at the place where he was. There is work to be done. Her husband is doing his part of the plan, now she must do hers.
Since she is already in the dining room of their castle, her first task is to fetch the chipped cup. It sits in a place of honor on top of the magical cupboard that creates their meals.
The sight of this cup never fails to make her smile. She had dropped it, on the first of many times one of her master’s orders had shocked her. For a time, it was a shameful thing for her, a sign of failure. Over time, she had decided that she liked his orders, and that she wanted him to give her more. She had offered him the imperfect cup, and he had understood what she had wanted--and he had given it to her.
When she had left, her lover had destroyed this room. He had smashed all the plates and cups, except for this. Later, he told her that he had wanted to throw it against the wall, but instead he had broken down in tears. He had it clutched to his chest when she found him in the dungeons.
Since the wedding, the meaning of the cup changed again. Now they serve each other, whenever they wish to play. The cup is imperfect, but it is beautiful because of what it means to them. It was the first object they shared together, even before their wedding rings.
She holds it delicately, as she walks to the next room. The night is dark, but torches light at her approach. Even if they didn’t, she knows the way. The castle is her home, and she walks without fear through every hallway.
The small room at the end of the corridor holds everything Rumple has of his son. There are clothes and toys and even a few battered schoolbooks. This is the boy that he lost a lifetime ago. This is the boy that he will destroy the world to get back. She has never met Baelfire, but she loves him. She will do anything she can to reunite her husband with his son.
If she could, she would take everything in this room. The memories are so precious. She would give them to the boy, once they find him. But her husband has given her specific instructions, and she trusts him enough to follow them. Magic can be fickle, especially when there are too many variables. If they ask it for too much, there is a greater chance that something might go wrong, and an even higher price to pay. They will only need one object of Bae’s to be able to find him in the new world. She can only take the shawl.
It is yellow wool, a little ragged and dirty from belonging to a young boy. Her husband knitted it himself. She feels the love that was woven into every fiber of it.
She cushions the chipped cup against the shawl and holds both objects in one hand. With her other hand, she draws out a single glove from the pocket of her gown. It is a magic glove, made of black velvet and her husband’s golden thread. As soon as it is on her hand, she is transported to the next room.
This is a room with no door. It can only be entered by using her husband’s magic. This is where he keeps things safe, including his secrets. This is where he stores the remains of his life before he had magic.
There is a wide bed, stuffed with straw. A rough-hewn farm table with a bench and pair of stools at either end. A spinning wheel wound with simple yarn instead of the gold her husband is famous for spinning. She looks over these furnishings with familiarity and with fondness. She has been in this room many times before.
Often enough to know where to find what she seeks.
A small table serves the function of a desk. It is piled high with papers, mostly drawings. Rumple’s first wife drew pictures of their son when he was a baby. And when the boy had grown older, he had developed the same talent.
Her mental image of Baelfire comes from a sketch he made of himself: Wavy dark hair and steady dark eyes, a boy who has already suffered and struggled more than he ought to have, a boy who smiles rarely, but is rarely afraid. She would rather take that drawing than handle what lies on top of it.
The dagger that controls her husband is an evil thing, but he has made her the mistress of it. When he proposed, he gave her the dagger, and submitted to her all the power of the Dark One. Together, they have studied its magic, tested its limits. While she does enjoy having some authority over her beloved, the thought of anyone else using the dagger on him--or hurting him with it--is enough to make her blood boil.
She cannot allow that to happen. She cannot allow the dagger to fall into any hands but her own or Rumple’s. This is the only weapon that can hurt him. She will never allow him to be hurt. She holds the dagger to her chest, just like the shawl and the cup.
She takes off the magic glove and finds herself in the tower room where her husband does most of his work. He knew that he was leaving, so he has put away most of his potions and equipment.
He may never see these things again.
Tears burn in her eyes. Stumbling to his work table, she lets their things slip from her arms. Her satchel is up here, Rumple must have placed it in this room. He gave her this satchel, the last time they were separated. The last time she had to leave her home. It is brown leather, with a design of a red rose blooming among the thorns.
She sets the cup and the shawl inside the satchel. Then she takes the dagger and slashes the glove to shreds. Golden sparks and wine-red smoke emanate from the glove as magic destroys magic. Now she will never be able to enter the safest room again. But neither will anyone else.
Everything she needs to carry fits inside the satchel. She could probably fit the entire potions cabinet and her husband’s spinning wheel inside and never feel the weight of it on her shoulders.
Her mission is done, but she has no will to rest. Their bedroom is at the bottom of the stairs below this tower, but she cannot bring herself to go there now. She has never slept a full night in this castle without her husband, without at least expecting him to join her. Their marriage bed is large and luxurious. It will feel so empty without him. She cannot sleep there.
 She wanders over to the window. A waning moon and hundreds of stars cast a soft glow over her husband’s spinning wheel. When he needs to think, he will spin straw into gold, working continuously from dawn until darkness. A day’s work fills up a bobbin of thread, and he has more bobbins than she could ever count. They mark centuries of pensive isolation. He starts every spinning day with one empty, and the work isn’t over until it’s full.
 But when she looks at the flyer, a bobbin is already waiting there, half-filled up with gold thread.
For a moment, she is perplexed. It is unlike Rumple to leave a loose end. But then she smiles. She understands. Her husband has left her with a message. An unfilled bobbin means the day is not done. There is still more work to do.
They are not finished yet.
I’ve been thinking all day about this post that I saw and reblogged about Snow’s desire to have another baby and how that hurt Emma. While it is completely understandable for Emma to feel that way as the lost girl that she is, I don’t think Snow is evil or a bad mother to want another baby. I’ve even read fics where people delete the birth of Snowing’s son altogether, seeing them having another child as a betrayal of Emma. I disagree completely. It isn’t them having another child that is problematic, it’s the way it was written in the show. Snow’s words in the echo cave that what she has with Emma isn’t what she wanted is a poor choice of words, but as a mother myself, I get what she was trying to say. Every mother wants to experience all the special moments as their child grows: the squishy baby against their shoulder, the first steps and words, the gap toothed six year old smiles - all of it. It’s what’s so tragic about the curse and what it did to Snowing and Emma. Snow having another baby doesn’t mean she’s “replacing Emma” because, by that logic, every mother who has more than one child is a bad person. Every mother who has a baby after losing a child is a bad person. That’s ridiculous. Any mother will tell you that ten babies can never replace the one you lost (or the ones you have for that matter). And if the Snowings should never have children as some sort of penance for giving Emma away, then by that logic, Captain Swan should never have children either because Emma gave up Henry.
Soooo, the problem isn’t Snowing having another baby. It’s the show’s writers doing Snowing dirty time and again by sweeping Emma’s emotions under the rug and having David and Snow cater more to Regina than their own daughter. We’ve heard the shows creators and writers use the excuse that they didn’t have time. Well, it wouldn’t have taken much. Dozens of little moments could have done the trick, they just didn’t take advantage of the opportunities they had to include them. So here are some quick scenes I wrote that either tweak canon or add to it and fix what the writers botched. These are written like scripts because I just needed to get them out of me. If anyone is inspired to use these as prompts for fics, feel free!
In Neverland:
Snow: If you can’t leave this place, then I’m staying with you. I’m not losing you again.
Charming: No, you can’t do that, Emma needs you.
(tears fill Snow’s eyes)
Snow: You’re right.
Charming pulls her close
Charming: I have hope that you and Emma will find a way to bring me home. We always find each other, remember?
Later, Emma is alarmed that they are leaving her dad behind. Snow takes her face in her hands.
Snow: We’ll find a way to bring him home - together.
Emma and Snow have a conversation in 3B ( did they ever get this chance in canon? I don’t think they did.)
Snow: (rubbing her belly) I get the sense that this is bothering you.
Emma: Why would it bother me?
Snow: (touching Emma’s arm) You can tell me.
Emma: I know it sounds silly, but I feel like . . . like I’m being replaced. (her voice hitches)
Snow: Oh sweetheart, we always knew we wanted you to have siblings. You could never be replaced.
Emma: But in the echo caves, you said I wasn’t what you wanted.
Snow: (eyes widening) Oh baby, no! That’s not what I meant at all. I meant that being separated from you wasn’t what I wanted - as a mother. We deserved so much more than we had - you deserved so much more. I wanted a chance to hold a baby, see his first steps, hear his first words. I’m sure you understand.
Emma: (chokes on a sob) I do, actually. I wanted all that with Henry, but I knew he needed more than I could give. And the worst part is, these false memories of raising him? Now they’re torturing me.
Snow: (pulls Emma close and holds her) I put you through that wardrobe because I had no idea what the curse would do.
Emma: (chokes out laugh) I would still be a baby now, for one.
Snow: (pulls back and cups Emma’s face) And who knows if Regina even would have let us be together. Your father was in a coma in the hospital. I shudder to think where my precious baby Emma would have been. (She presses her forehead to Emma’s.) Nothing could ever replace you, not now, not ever. Do you hear me?
(Emma nods and smiles through her tears.)
While Charming and Emma are putting together the crib, Snow gets quiet and wistful, then tears fill her eyes.
Snow: You were supposed to be so much younger when it was time to get ready for a new brother or sister.
Emma: (pauses in what she is doing to give her mother a watery smile) I know.
At the naming ceremony:
Snow: David and I thought about all of the many people who have loved us and supported us over the years. There are two special people who have not only been our friends, but also sheltered me when I needed a home. (chuckles) And didn’t hold it against me that I was hiding in their barn stealing their eggs. So we would like to introduce: Prince Lucas!
(Ruby and Granny gasp tearfully, then rush over. Ruby hugs Snow tightly and Granny gently takes the baby.)
Granny: Well, now that he has a name, I can finally finish that baby blanket.
(The crowd in the diner laughs.)
(Now Emma doesn’t have to be reminded of her painful past/awful ex every time she says her brother’s name.)
Emma realizes she’s made her baby brother’s bottle start boiling - ignore my alliteration :) - all the other mothers in the mommy & me class gasp or recoil, but Snow reaches out gently to her daughter.
Snow: It’s okay, Emma.
Emma is freaked out that she could have hurt her brother and runs from the room while Snow shouts after her, frantically getting LUCAS (not Neal) into his stroller so she can go after her. This sufficiently establishes the fear Emma has that she will hurt her family or push them away - Snow recoiling wasn’t necessary just as it wasn’t necessary for Hook or Henry to recoil from Emma to convey the plot point.
Instead of teaching Regina to dance:
Snow: (in her chambers, sees her husband rushing to leave) Where are you going?
Charming: I just realized I never got a chance to teach my daughter to dance, (harkening back to the dream he had in 3b - HELLO writers!) and this is her first ball.
Snow grins at the excitement on his face and in his voice and rushes out with him, baby LUCAS in her arms. But when they get to Emma’s chamber, the door is ajar, and they see someone has beat them to it:
Hook: It’s a waltz Emma, remember? You’ve done this before, and splendidly I might add.
Emma: You did it splendidly, you mean. Remember, pick a partner who knows what he’s doing?
(Hook laughs, and in the doorway, Charming deflates, smiling sadly and wistfully.)
Charming: (whispering to his wife) I forgot, this isn’t her first ball after all, and she already has a teacher.
(Snow touches him in a comforting way. Across the room, Hook looks up and sees them. He catches Charming’s eyes, and a look of understanding crosses his face.)
Emma: Besides, there will be other dances besides, waltzes, right? How will I learn those in only a few hours?
Hook: Well, love, I believe reinforcements have arrived. Someone else would like a dance.
(Emma looks up as her father approaches, a smile beaming across her face. Charming is visibly choked up as he takes Emma in his arms to dance. Hook and Snow exchange emotional smiles.)
Snow: And after the dancing lessons your mother is going to help you get dressed and do your hair.
Emma: (pretending to be embarrassed) This isn’t the prom.
Snow: No, but it is our first ball together. (She’s choked up - they all are.)
In addition to these, I believe the writers should never have done the “darkness was taken out of fetus Emma” storyline. I could write an entire post on this, but all I will say here is that it harmed Snowing’s established characters and did further damage to their relationship with Emma. For no reason at all, really. (And does Emma really seem like a pure snowflake with no darkness in her? Does that even fit her character? Please.)
They also never should have added the plot point in season 6 that Snowing could have gone to little girl Emma and chose not to. Why in the world would them going to her prevent the curse from breaking? That makes no sense! They could have raised her from that point, preparing her for her 28th birthday, when they could have all returned to Storybrooke TOGETHER to wake everyone else up from the curse. The only reason that couldn’t happen was - plot. You change the entire show. So why even include this plot thread? It did nothing but make Snowing look like bad parents. I’m a mama, and let me tell you, nothing would be keeping me from my kid, curses be damned. I would have gone through that portal in a heartbeat, telling Rumple, “we’ll figure it out, see ya!” So - yeah - never should have included this. And Emma’s reaction to this revelation? Completely out of character! Ugh!
Um, so there ya go - “How the show could have been better” by Melanie.
And reading back over this, it’s kind of a mess, but I just had THOUGHTS that needed to come out.
Wait I love my mom
A/N: One shot based on this video about a little boy freaking out that he didn’t say “I love you” his dad and this video of a little girl trying not to cry. I watched them recently and thought this would be a great fic. Their old videos but still melts my heart every time I watch them.
Summary: Killian and Emma take turns staying home with their toddler. One day they thought they would record what it’s like when one of them leaves the house.
XxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxX
Emma turned on Killians phones and pulled up the camera. She turned it show her husband. “Okay now all you have to do is press the red button to start and then press it again to stop.”
Killian nodded and took the device as Emma went to put on her jacket and shoes. He pressed the red button once Hope exited the kitchen.
“Alright little bean. Mamas gotta go to work.”
“Otay mama. Bye bye.” Hope waves as she walked over to Killian.
“Bye you be good today.”
“You be a good sparkle machine.”
Killian chuckled at that. When Emma preformed magic her hand would light up and sparkle, he could only assume that’s what Hope was referring to.
“Okay you be a good sparkle machine too.” Emma grabbed her keys and opened the door.
Hope points at Emma and states, “You You go to work and be a good sparkle machine at work.”
“That’s what I do. I’ll be extra good today.”
“Otay I be a good sparkle machine.”
“Okay baby, I love you.”
“Bye,” they called as Emma closed the door. Killian turns so his phone can see his daughters face.
“What are you duckling,” he asked and he watched his daughter expression quickly change. Her happy carefree smile rapidly changed to one of deep concern and heart break.
“I didn’t say I love you to Mama.” Hope start making her way to the front door. “Wait I love my mom.”
“I didn’t say I love you to my mom,” she repeated her voice become panic. She started running, opening the door she yelled for Emma as Killian followed her.
“Mama,” she yelled as she made her way to Emma’s bug.
“What?” Emma turned to see her daughter in tears. “What’s wrong baby?”
As Hope was enveloped in her mother’s arms she repeating, “I love you Mama. I love my mom. I love my mama.”
“O-okay baby but why are you crying?”
Hope sniffed and rubbed her eyes, “I-I didn’t say I love you and I love my mom.”
“Aw baby,” Emma gave her a squeeze and kissed her head, “it’s okay. I love you too.”
Emma looked up to see Killian stand back still recording this little interaction. Emma gave Hope one more squeeze before saying, “alright I gotta go so go back inside with Daddy.”
“Okay Bye mama,” Hope let go of her mother and slunk back to the house, “I love you.”
“I love you too. Bye babe.”
Killian waved “bye love. I love you.”
“Yeah and I love you too mama,” Hope chimed in one last time.
“Love you three,” Emma called back as she finally got in her car and they went back into the house.
Hope sniffled as she turned to her father.
“It’s sad when Mama leaves right, little duckling?”
“Yeah,” Hope nodded frown still on her face.
“Do you want Daddy to go to work instead?”
“Noooo,” Hope latched on to his leg, “Daddy stays.”
“Okay little duckling Daddy will stay home,” Killian chuckles as he stops the recording.
“Do you want Daddy to read a story?”
Hope nodded still latched onto his leg. They made their way to the couch were they settled down to continue reading Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone.
“”””””””””””””””””””””””””
Later Emma was sitting at the sheriffs station going through some paper work when her phone vibrated. Killian has sent her a video, a not so small part of her was proud of how far her pirate has come with using his talking phone. She opens it up to see they are at the pier but Hope is wearing an unusual frown.
She pressed play to see her daughters quivering lip and misty eyes. Her hand laying against her chest as she took a breath trying to calm herself down.
“What’s wrong little duckling,” She heard Killian ask from behind the camera.
Hope opened her mouth as if to say something but seemed to decided against it as she took a couple more deep breaths.
“Don’t cry, little love. Daddy’s here and we’re at the water, you love the water,” Killian tried to sooth his daughter. Hopes face scrunches up slightly and she lets out a small whine.
“Why are you sad?” Hope doesn’t respond and Killian try’s again, “When your sad Daddy’s sad. Tell me what’s wrong, little duckling.”
Hope held up her hand as if to stop her father from asking anymore questions. A single tear slid down her cheek as she took stuttering breaths.
Emma pouted, hating you see her daughter so upset but she couldn’t help but find the whole interaction adorable. Her phone vibrated again it was another video. Hope was now standing in front of Killian still misty eyed and wearing a sorrowful expression. Her phone vibrated again a text saying “just like her mama.” Emma quickly played the video.
“What do you want little love? What will make you happy again?”
“Uh some hot chocolate?”
“You want hot chocolate?”
“Yeah with cimanom.” Hope sniffled.
“Okay duckling.”
“And maybe a movie?”
“You want to watch a movie?”
Hope nodded, “Yeah.”
“What movie do you want to watch duckling?”
Hope raised her hands, “Maybe mamas movie.”
“You want to watch the swan movie and hot chocolate,” Killian asked making sure he understood his daughter.
“With cimamom. Yeah.”
“And that will make you happy?”
Hope tilted her head to the side, “Maybe yeah.”
“Alright little love we’ll go home and get you some hot chocolate and watch the swan movie.”
“Okay Daddy.” Hope sniffled once more before grabbing Killians hook and the video coming to a hault.
Emma’s heart was melting at her precious daughter simple requests. The same requests she makes after she’s had a rough day.
Half an hour later Emma received a picture of Hope curled up into Killians side, then another one of two mugs of hot chocolate with cinnamon on the coffee table while the Swan Princess played on the tv hanging above the fireplace. The text that followed read she was sad because last time she was at the water with her mama and daddy.
Emma finished work early that day. As she walked in the house she was welcomed by Hope running straight into her arms. As she picked up her daughter to move further into their home her only thought was how she would react to when Killian leaves tomorrow.
Chapter 237: Information Warfare
"Good evening and welcome to the latest edition of Fabled. Your premier podcast for all the dirt and the real truth behind the fairy tale," Goldie began.
"As you know, here on the Fabled podcast, we take you beyond the writings of Henry Nolan Charming and bring you face to face with the real people in the book and how they're not always what they seem," she said.
"And even when they are...we discuss what we all know is there. A dark side," she continued.
"Tonight though, we're doing a little backstory," Grimm said.
"That's right...we're taking you back to the beginning of everything. We've told you it all. We rarely discuss what happened back in the Enchanted Forest or other realms where most of our people come from, but there is a purpose for that," she said.
"She's right...we like to discuss what came after true love's kiss and the curse that brought them all to this world. A dark curse," Grimm said.
"The same dark curse that deposited Prince Charming and his infant daughter on a rural road in Maine in 1983," Goldie replied.
"When found, Charming had clothing typical of this land and even identification on him. David Nolan of Storybrooke, Maine. A town that no one could find on a map and in the crook of his arm, a baby wrapped in a white blanket with the name Emma embroidered on it," Grimm said.
"They were taken to a hospital; a hospital that David Nolan remained in for ten years in a coma, while little Emma went off to a group home," Goldie said.
"Now, you might be wondering why we're discussing this, because most of this is described in the book, but what isn't in the book was Emma's troubled childhood," Goldie added.
"Right...Emma was adopted by a couple by the name of Nathan and Linda Swan and they sent her back when she was only three-years-old," Grimm said.
"The Swans are dead, but we have obtained Emma Swan's file from child services and it's quite interesting," Goldie said.
"Apparently, little Emma was a handful. There are tons of reports in this file that said that Emma would throw tantrums and during them, lights would flicker, sometimes lightbulbs would even explode, and electronics would even turn themselves on around her," Grimm replied.
"Naturally, most of the social workers she had listed had great difficulty in getting her adopted. One even called her a little demon and I guess we all know why that is," Goldie said.
"Right and in her file, her unruly behavior was naturally listed as the reason she was always sent back," Grimm replied.
"Of course, most fawn over the Charmings when they learn these things, but don't you think it was a clear sign that something was seriously off about her. I mean, we've even learned that her own paternal grandfather visited his son in the hospital a few times, but made no effort to take custody of little Emma," Goldie said.
"Maybe he knew what she was...and how much trouble she'd be to this world," Grimm replied.
"And she has. The Charmings have caused as much harm as they have good; that good is only done after they cause the destruction of a city," Goldie said.
"And who is there leading them all?" Grimm asked.
"Emma Swan...AKA Emma Nolan Charming-Jones," Goldie replied.
"Everyone thinks they're heroes...but we know they're capable of going dark. Her parents have...what's stopping Emma from going bad?" Goldie asked.
"I think we all know the answer to that. As long as she keeps her happy ending...she stays good, but the Savior could easily become our destroyer," Grimm replied.
"Exactly...and when we come back from our short break, we'll discuss the one Charming that can shake the entire world apart if he wants to," Goldie said, as they streamed their ads and shared a smirk. If they kept this up, Mama Snow and Daddy Charming would be beating down their door to defend their precious children.
~*~
The fireplace crackled in their living room, as Snow and David cuddled together on the sofa with two almost empty wine glasses on the coffee table. Shortly after the demise of Jekyll, they had decided they missed the coziness of their family home and decided to remodel the living quarters of the castle. Now the entire east wing consisted of their spacious bed chambers, a family room where they could gather with their kids, a private kitchen, Summer and Bobby's bedrooms, several guest bedrooms and bathrooms, and even a large outdoor veranda for family gatherings when it was warm. The staff did the chores and cleaning during the day, but it was mostly off limits to anyone but family in the evenings and mornings. Summer and Bobby especially loved the return to the coziness of their family home, yet the best of both worlds of castle life as well.
They still loved cooking for the kids too when they had time and this eliminated any friction with the staff when they wanted to use the main kitchen like before. It was definitely clear that most of the staff was not used to having royals willing to do for themselves like the Charmings. But on this evening, with Summer out and Bobby spending the night with Gideon, they were alone and left to their own devices.
He kissed her deeply and slid his hands underneath her blouse, as she mewled into his kiss. His hands on her made her gasp in excitement and she bit her bottom lip to keep a moan back, as he kissed his way down her neck. Her hands went for his belt and that was the moment his phone chose to beep. He grunted and chose to ignore the offending device in favor of kissing his way down to her collarbone. But then it beeped again. She whimpered in annoyance, as he reached for it.
"No...you have deputies for this kind of thing," she pouted. He chuckled and pecked her on the lips. He sighed, as he looked at it.
"It's Leroy," he said, as he sat up. She huffed.
"He says I need to come in and see something. Apparently, it's important," David replied.
"It's Leroy...I doubt what he says is important is that important," she argued, as she climbed into his lap and straddled his waist. He chuckled.
"You are Supreme Sheriff of the United Realms," she reminded him, as she started unbuttoning his shirt.
"That means you have deputies to handle most of the day to day operations and you can oversee. I highly doubt this requires your attention now," she reasoned.
"You're probably right," he agreed, as she kissed him deeply and he dropped his phone to the sofa. Unfortunately, it beeped again.
"Ugh...he really has a death wish tonight," Snow complained, as she prepared to toss it away, but he caught her arm and took the phone from her. He read the message and sighed again.
"He's not going to stop unless I go see what is so urgent," he said.
"He will if I tell him I'll shoot him with an arrow," she replied, with a pout. He chuckled again and kissed her pouty lips.
"Maybe...but knowing Leroy, he'll just come here instead," he said. She frowned at that and knew he was right. Leroy had always had boundary issues and was rarely appeased.
"Fine…" she relented, as she climbed off him.
"You want to come?" he asked.
"I want to come...but not in that way," she replied in a salty tone, making him laugh again.
"And I promise to help you with that in earnest when I get back," he said. She smirked.
"Okay...you better hurry back and make good on that, handsome," she replied, as she got up and kissed him passionately.
"Meanwhile, you can think about me being all alone, naked in the hot tub," she said, as she started to saunter toward their bed chambers. He blew out a breath.
"This really better be freaking good, Leroy," he grumbled, as he grabbed his sword and sheathed it on his belt, before heading out.
~*~
"Can you believe her!?" Eva cried, as she and Paul grabbed a bite at Granny's that evening after a long day at the hospital.
"Honey...you can't let her get you so worked up. You know she does it on purpose. She's constantly on your parents. It was only a matter of time before she went after the rest of you," Paul reasoned.
"I don't know...I'm with her. That lady needs turned off, permanently," Frankie agreed, as he held his and Joe's daughter.
"Easy Frankie...Paul has a point. She's just aching to get your parents to go after them and it wasn't working when she was saying stuff about them. So she's naturally going after you kids now," Joe reasoned.
"He's right," Paul agreed.
"Yeah...and Emma is an adult. That will piss them off...but they go after Bobby and your Mom is gonna put an arrow in her," Frankie said.
"I should text Emma and then Mom and Dad in the morning," Eva said.
"Or not...I mean, your parents don't even waste their time listening to Goldie's crap podcast. Neither does Emma or Bobby for that matter," Paul replied.
"I get that...but they're stoking fear about us. It's wrong...at this rate, we'll never be able to safely leave the United Realms again," Eva said.
"Maybe that's for the best," Paul replied, as he took her hand across the table.
"He might be right, honey. We lived in that world a long time. They're not kind to heroes. They build them up so they can tear them down," Frankie said.
"He's right...the propaganda is too shiny for the normies. The truth always comes out...but it takes longer and by then, the damage is done most of the time," Joe agreed. She sighed.
"I know you're right...maybe we are better off not going out there," she said. He nodded.
"Come on...let's head home. We can work on a counter for all of it. More people listen to you anyway," Paul said, as he paid the check and they said goodnight to Joe, Frankie, and their little one, before heading home for the evening.
~*~
David walked into the station in Storybrooke that evening, finding that it was mostly quiet, with what looked like routine bookings and happenings. Which begged the question as to why he was there. He headed toward the front desk, where they usually had a desk sergeant stationed during the day. At night though, it was usually just a clerk that went to the academy, but didn't quite have the makings for a beat cop. Now that they were policing the entire United Realms, they had an actual police force, both day and night shift. The station headquarters was in Storybrooke of course, complete with a much bigger, newer station with modern technology, a larger bullpen, and eight holding cells. Emma headed and managed the station headquarters and the day to day operations, while he oversaw the entire police force and the armies of Knights from all realms from their castle in Misthaven. Knights that served in various armies were considered a step higher than the Storybrooke police force, though the day of chainmail was mostly gone, with the exception of a few Kingdoms that still insisted on the old type guard. But the modern forces were akin to higher law enforcement and intelligence agencies like one might find in the Land Without Magic. He frequented the station in Storybrooke during the day, but it had been a very long time since he had visited it in the evening and probably not since it had been the old station. He knew the day desk sergeant by name, but didn't recognize the night clerk at all. He approached and then spotted Leroy coming out of one of the interrogation rooms. He almost made it past the desk when the clerk happened to look up from whatever non-work items he was doing and his eyes widened.
"Oh my Gods...it's you…" he uttered, as the middle aged man stared. David sighed.
"Yeah…just here to see Leroy," David said, hoping not to attract too much attention. He usually liked to keep a low profile, but it was increasingly harder to do these days, even in Storybrooke.
"I'm...I'm just such a huge fan. I mean...you're a legend!" the man stammered.
"It's about time you got here," Leroy grumbled, as he noticed the desk clerk that was hoping to get David's attention.
"Get back to work, Drake. Those phones and emails don't answer themselves," Leroy snapped.
"The phone isn't ringing at all," Drake said, but Leroy gave him a look and he wisely shut his trap.
"As I was saying...it's about time you got here," he grumbled.
"Really? Because whatever it is seems like it could have waited until morning. This place is dead," David argued.
"Not as dead as you'd think, chisel chin," he replied.
"Get back to work, Drake and stop working on those dumb picture books," Leroy snapped, as he led David back to the interrogation room, only to see a teen in the room about Bobby's age. David looked at him.
"He's a kid…" David said.
"Boy you're quick," Leroy retorted. David sighed.
"I mean, he's a kid and we have social workers for this stuff," he said.
"This one skips out of the system every chance he gets and is a notorious thief," Leroy replied, as he handed him the file.
"Eugene Fitzherbert...okay, yeah that's quite a list of theft for sixteen, but if you're wanting to book him as an adult, I think that's a bit harsh. Most of this stuff is petty. He needs a program, not prison," David argued.
"He needs a smack in the head, but I didn't bring you here because I think we need to try him as an adult," Leroy replied.
"Okay...then why did you?" David asked.
"He thinks he spotted Runeard at Iago's...earlier tonight," Leroy replied. David looked at the teen and then back at Leroy.
"Okay...you've definitely got my attention now. He's sure?" David asked. Leroy nodded.
"I showed him the photo of that portrait we took from Elsa's castle. He says he's sure and that's not all. He was pretty shaken up by what he heard and to get under the skin of a street rat like this one...I knew it had to be bad," Leroy said. David nodded and went into the room.
"Eugene…" David said, as he put his file on the table and took a seat across from him. The boy looked at him in surprise, like he was the last one he expected to see.
"Everything okay?" David asked.
"Uh yeah...just didn't expect him to go all the way to the top when I told him what I saw and heard," the boy replied.
"If you really did see Runeard...then Leroy was always going to call me," David replied. The teen looked uncomfortable at that and David relaxed in his chair a bit.
"Look Eugene…" he started.
"I hate that name...I don't go by that name," he said in irritation. David smirked.
"Like my son. He refuses to ever go by the name Robert and we've always called him Bobby. So what do you go by?" David asked. Eugene looked at him with scrutiny. No one ever cared or bothered to listen when he said he didn't like Eugene, let alone asked him what he liked to be called.
"Flynn...Flynn Rider," he replied.
"Okay...Flynn is it then," David said.
"Leroy says you saw Runeard at Iago's tonight," he said.
"Yeah...it was him, I'm sure of it. Nothing scares Iago anymore...and that guy had him ready to wet himself," Flynn replied.
"Then you heard the conversation?" David asked. He nodded.
"Iago was talking smack like he usually does and then the man grabbed his hand. It was only for a second, but Iago started turning gray. I...I've never seen anything like it," Flynn confessed.
"Yeah...he's really dangerous. I'll level with you...probably more dangerous than Jekyll was in certain ways," David said. Flynn looked at him for a moment again. No adult had ever leveled with him or told him the full truth before. It was a scary truth, but he liked it.
"What happened after that?" David asked.
"Iago told him to get out and didn't charge him for the drink, which is saying something. Iago never gives anything for free," Flynn replied.
"Did he leave?" David asked.
"Yeah...but not right away. Someone at one of the tables stopped him on the way out," Flynn replied.
"Do you know who it was?" David asked. He nodded.
"His name is Rourke...he's kind of a mercenary I think. He's really shady...no one seems to know much about him," Flynn replied.
"Oh, I know the name...and you're right, he's a mercenary, but really elusive. He used to freelance for Clayton back in Longbourne. My father told me a bit about him," David said.
"He also managed to evade capture when we took down Pleasure Island...and I still don't know how he keeps off the grid like he does," he added.
"Yeah...I couldn't hear the conversation and getting closer would have been suicide, but he gave Runeard a business card," Flynn said.
"That's interesting...and really helpful," David replied.
"Are you going to book me?" Flynn asked.
"Why did you come here if you knew we might arrest you for something?" David countered with his own question. Flynn shrugged.
"I don't know...I hate cops and stuff, but this Runeard guy seems really bad. I mean, I hate the system...but I still want a world to live in, you know?" he asked. David nodded.
"We all do...and we're not going to book you tonight," David replied. Flynn's eyes widened.
"Really?" he asked.
"No...but do you have a place to stay tonight and don't say in a car or on the street," David replied.
"I'll...I'll figure it out. I always do," he replied.
"Yeah...that's what I thought. Come on," David said.
"Come where?" Flynn asked.
"You can stay with us until we get you enrolled in school and on your feet," David replied.
"I...I can't stay in a castle," Flynn said.
"It's no big deal. We have plenty of room, as you can imagine, and our youngest is about your age. He has an empty spare room right next to his," David replied, but he could see how uncomfortable the teen was.
"But if you'd rather, just go to Granny's and tell her I sent you. She'll get you settled," David said. He nodded, a little more comfortable with that.
"And make sure you go, because I will check and I will be making sure you're headed to school tomorrow when I send my son to take you there," David said.
"I don't need school…" Flynn argued. David smirked.
"It's school or juvie," he said. Flynn scoffed.
"Fine…" he relented. He'd figure out a way to get out of it later. David stood up and opened the door, letting him out, as Leroy waited.
"Make sure he gets to Granny's and get him checked in," David said, as he started to walk back toward the desk.
"You aren't booking him?" Leroy asked.
"No...he's just a kid, Leroy," David replied.
"You're such a softie," Leroy complained, but he wasn't too upset by that, as they got to the desk and he finished scribbling notes on the report.
"Here's the report. Stop working on your comic and get this typed up," Leroy ordered.
"Of course," the desk clerk said, as he looked at David.
"I...I just want to say that you're an inspiration. Your family...and the crime fighting. It's my basis for my own comic book," he said.
"That's...great," David replied, a bit awkwardly.
"Not if your comic is about duck people that are super heroes," Leroy muttered.
"Well, good luck. I need to get home," David said.
"Wait…" Drake called and David winced, as he stopped and turned around.
"I know it's a lot to ask...but your grandson is the author and I'd love it if he would read my stuff and give some feedback," Drake replied.
"Ahh...well, Henry's not really that hard to get a hold of. Shoot him an email," David suggested.
"I sort of sent him a few...dozen," Drake muttered.
"Okay...well, I really need to go," David said, as he started to head for the door.
"Dammit Mallard...I told you to limit working on that crap here at work and then you go weird Charming out with your hero worship?" Leroy scolded.
"Sorry…" he apologized, as he sighed and looked at his comic, before going back to work on it.
"Come on kid, I gotta take you to Granny's. Charming's orders," he said, as he ushered Flynn out to the car.
~*~
"Okay boys...I got the stuff for your s'mores," Belle said, as she exited the house and into the backyard where Gideon and Bobby were having a campfire in the fire pit. Rumple sat with them, as did Neal and Tink, who had come for dinner as well.
"Thanks Mom," Gideon said, as he helped her with the stuff.
"So Bobby...your Mom texted me that you have a date to winter formal on Saturday night," Belle mentioned.
"Uh yeah...I asked Zia," Bobby said shyly.
"Way to go, man," Neal said, as he fist bumped him.
"Yeah…Mom already bought new albums for the pictures," he said, with a flush of embarrassment.
"I think it's sweet...and it would be even sweeter if my Gideon wasn't refusing to go," Belle mentioned.
"Mom...not this again," Gideon complained, making Rumple smirk slightly.
"I just don't want you to miss out, sweetie. You can go without a date," Belle urged.
"Well...you know, he could ask Olivia. She hasn't been asked yet and I know she likes you," Bobby suggested. Gideon's eyes widened.
"Dude…" he hissed.
"Oh that sounds wonderful...Olivia is so sweet. You should ask her," Belle urged.
"Yeah and then we can take pictures together," Bobby snickered.
"I hate you," Gideon grumbled.
"Don't be so shy, baby bro. Ask her out," Neal urged. Gideon rolled his eyes.
"Fine…I'll ask her," he relented.
"Good...now on with the making of s'mores," Neal said, as they got the stuff out and started roasting some marshmallows.
~*~
David got home and upstairs to their living quarters. He removed his jacket and shoes, before padding into their bedroom and into the bathroom, finding his wife in the hot tub, as promised.
"Good...you're back and I'm almost out of wine," she purred, as she undressed him with her eyes. He smirked and grabbed the bottle on the sink and filled her glass and one that was waiting for him, before leaning down and kissing her.
"Get in here," she requested. He smiled and undressed, much to her liking, and slipped into the water with her.
"I missed you," she purred, as he kissed her again.
"I missed you," he replied, in a husky tone. She was going to ask him why he was called in, but she forgot all about anything else when he started kissing her neck.
"Charming…" she mewled, as he proceeded to make love to her. After, they rested together in the bubbling water, exchanging soft kisses, before she rested her head on his shoulder.
"So...what did Leroy need?" she asked, as he entwined their fingers together and kissed the back of her hand.
"Someone said they saw Runeard at Iago's earlier...and actually came in to report it," he answered. She looked up at him.
"Really?" she asked. He nodded.
"A young man, about Bobby's age. I suspect he's either an orphan or had a troubled home life. He has a rap sheet, but it's mostly petty and we've never been able to get him to tell us which land he's from," he replied.
"He wasn't included in the system from the Good Curse?" she asked. He shook his head.
"No...he skipped under the radar somehow. But what he saw scared him enough to report it," he replied.
"What did he see?" Snow asked.
"Iago mouthed off to him...you know, like Iago does and Runeard gave him a tiny taste of what he was capable of. Iago begged him to leave and he did, but not before someone else stopped him on the way out," David replied.
"Who?" Snow asked.
"A man named Rourke...who we also don't know a lot about, other than he's a mercenary. My dad said he freelanced for Clayton a few times though back in the Enchanted Forest. He usually operated out of Longbourne," David explained.
"What did a mercenary want with Runeard?" Snow asked. He shook his head.
"Not sure...the kid didn't get close enough to hear, but Rourke handed him a business card," David replied.
"What about the boy? Don't tell me he's sleeping on the streets or in one of those skeevy motels that Iago owns on the east side," she said.
"No…I offered to let him stay here, but I don't think he was comfortable with that. I think he's still trying to figure me out," he replied. She smiled.
"So I had Leroy take him to Granny's and I made sure he knows that he's going to school tomorrow. He didn't like that, but I told him it's school or juvie," he added. She kissed his cheek.
"You're such a good man...I love you so much," she replied.
"I love you too...and I'm the man I am, because of you," he said.
"You were a good man, even before me," she reminded him.
"Maybe...but you gave me everything I knew I wanted in life and more," he said.
"There was a time that I wasn't willing to take risks and fight for anything, even my own freedom. Then when I did...I guess I never stopped fighting so when I met you, I knew that I'd do anything for you and fight for you to my dying breath. And then our children," he said, making her want to melt.
"I know...you're my hero. You have been since we met," she replied, as she kissed him tenderly.
"But I have to say...I'm very much enjoying these peaceful days when we're not all in mortal danger," she added. He chuckled.
"Me too...come on, let's go dry off and get a snack. I could go for some ice cream," he mentioned.
"Oooh...me too," she agreed, as they got out and dried off, before putting their robes on and then padding out to the kitchen.
Hermes' bubble disappeared, as they touched down in New Asgard, where Sif was waiting for them. She hugged them both with excitement and then the children.
"We missed you Aunty Sif," Ben said.
"Oh, well I missed you too, young ones," Sif replied, as she led them toward the marketplace.
"Well...things are certainly looking good around here," Fandral mentioned.
"Yes...it helps that there are more hands to spread the work to now," Sif replied.
"What do you mean?" Rose asked, as they noticed there was also a lot of construction going on.
"They reversed the snap...most everyone that died five years ago has returned," she said.
"That's wonderful...but how is that possible?" Fandral asked.
"That is a long story, but we have breakfast ready at the royal house and Thor is waiting," Sif replied.
"Then Thor is taking his Throne seriously now?" Rose asked.
"No...he has put Valkyrie in charge and she is hard at work cleaning things up around here," Sif replied.
"Then it's true...Thor is leaving," Fandral said.
"He is...but with access to the bi-frost at his fingertips, I know he plans to pop in to visit all of you soon," she said, as they arrived and found breakfast waiting for them. As they prepared to sit and eat, Thor came barging in.
"Uncle Thor!" the kids called, as the three of them rushed up to hug him. He laughed and lifted the twins effortlessly.
"Every time I see you both...you've grown a mile," he said, as he put them down and Carina hugged him too.
"And you've become a young woman," he said, as he approached them.
"Is he okay?" Fandral muttered.
"He's better now that most of the damage has been fixed...but he still needs a shave and to get back to training," Sif whispered back.
"It is so good to see you, my friend," Thor said, as they shook hands and he smirked.
"Looks like you've been busy too," he mentioned, enjoying razzing him and he shook his head.
"Yes...you remember Rose, of course and these are our second set of twins. Astrid and Gunnar," he said, introducing him to the babies that Sif and Rose were holding.
"Strong Asgardian names," Thor said, as he sat down.
"So…Sif tells us that you fixed the damage done by Thanos. That is amazing news," Rose said.
"Yes...but I should say we fixed it. The Avengers, that is. We gathered the Infinity Stones and snapped them all back. Or rather, Banner did," he explained.
"But I thought you said they were destroyed," Fandral replied.
"Ah...they were, but we used time travel and retrieved them from the past, then Banner snapped everyone back. Unfortunately, Thanos followed us back here from the past, but we killed him properly this time. Then Captain Rogers put the stones back in their places in the past," he said.
"Time travel? I've read so many books about it...it's really possible?" Rose asked excitedly.
"Truly...and though it came with its prices, most that were snapped are back now," he replied.
"That's wonderful news," Fandral replied.
"We heard about Natasha...we didn't know her well, but she did help us a great deal when Seth banished us," Rose said.
"Natasha was one of a kind," Thor agreed.
"Are you really leaving?" Fandral asked.
"Yes...it's time I be myself and not who everyone thinks I'm supposed to be. But New Asgard will be in good hands with Valkyrie and Sif," he replied.
"And you're going to space?" Ben asked in awe.
"That's right, young one...but I plan to pop in to visit you from time to time. I still need to see your Kingdom," he promised.
"We would love to have you," Rose said.
"Yes...but until then I will be off on a new adventure with the Guardians of the Galaxy with Quail and the Rabbit," Thor replied.
"I think his name is Quill," Sif said.
"That's what I said," Thor replied and she rolled her eyes.
"Well...if you're not leaving right away, we'd love to spend the day with you until you go," Fandral said.
"Excellent...with the bi-frost, this world is at our fingertips," he said, as they finished breakfast and then ventured out for the day to see this world.
~*~
The next day went off mostly like any other weekday, with the work and school day commencing and Bobby met Flynn outside Granny's, as he promised his Dad he would. His parents were inside having breakfast with some of his siblings and he was done and ready to head to school.
"Are you Flynn?" Bobby asked, as the taller boy came out of the Inn.
"Yeah…" he replied with a sigh.
"I'm Bobby Charming," he said, as he put his hand out. Flynn looked at his hand and then reluctantly shook it.
"Yeah…I know who you are. Everyone knows who you are," Flynn said. Bobby nodded.
"Yeah…I guess they do," he replied.
"Look...school is not my thing so why don't we just pretend I went with you and call it good?" he asked.
"Sorry...my Dad was pretty clear that it's school or juvie for you and if he's giving you a chance with your rap sheet, then I'd say it's because he sees good in you. So take the deal," Bobby refuted. Flynn snorted and followed him, as they walked to school.
"They make you walk? No car?" Flynn asked.
"I'm fifteen and they would take me, but I don't mind walking. It's not that far," Bobby replied.
"I can get us a car," Flynn mentioned.
"One that's yours?" Bobby asked. Flynn scoffed.
"Details," Flynn muttered.
"Do you even have a driver's license?" Bobby asked.
"I'm not above stealing a car...why would I bother to get the license to drive one?" Flynn answered with his own question.
"Good point...and I bet you have a lot of great skills that you use for crime. I bet you can put them all to good use and actually learn something," Bobby said.
"Doubtful junior...your Dad is wrong about me," Flynn replied.
"We'll see…" Bobby said, as they arrived at school.
"Hey honey...we ordered for you," Snow said, as Eva and Paul arrived for breakfast.
"Yeah...you're lucky. Hope and I were going to make a claim on your pancakes," Emma joked, as she poured her daughter's milk into her sippy cup, before putting it before her.
"You okay? You seem flustered," David said.
"I take it that none of you listened to Goldie's podcast last night," Eva replied.
"Gross...no," Emma said.
"Yeah...you're the only one that listens to her trash," Leo pointed out.
"Honey...you shouldn't listen to her. She's horrible and we don't care what she says about us," Snow admonished.
"I know, Mom...but last night was different. She went after Emma pretty hard and basically said that Bobby could destroy the whole world by himself. She's pushing fear about us now," Eva said.
"Okay…I don't like that," David replied.
"Me either...maybe we should listen," Snow said. Emma rolled her eyes.
"No...you guys, who cares what that lunatic says?" she asked.
"We don't...but if she's inciting people to be fearful of our children, that's wrong," Snow replied.
"I know, Mom...but we expected this. People were already afraid of us when they saw what we did in Seattle and then when they saw the battle with Seth, we knew that fear that was on the corners of the Internet before would become a bit more mainstream," Emma reasoned.
"We did, Princess...but it sounds like she's using certain rhetoric to radicalize people against us," David said.
"He's absolutely right...and it's exactly the type of warfare that General Mendoza and the intelligence agencies use every day," Patricia said, as she joined them.
"Then you think Goldie has been recruited by General Mendoza?" Snow asked.
"I've been listening to all of her podcasts...like Eva has and I sent Agent Harding to New York to do a little digging," she replied.
"Then you were able to pinpoint her and Grimm's location to New York?" David asked.
"Yes, but only generally speaking to the city, which wouldn't have been possible without a top notch hacker, who did a favor for Agent Harding. The VPN they're using is top of the line and I mean nearly un-hackable, so they couldn't get in to pinpoint any kind of location or even radius," she explained.
"But they got a general geographical location on the last broadcast and it's definitely coming from the state of New York," she added.
"Which means it's a pretty good guess that they're in New York City, hiding in a sea of over eight million people," Emma replied. Patricia nodded.
"I can't say with one hundred percent certainty, but yes...it's a good guess," she said.
"Any ideas on how to narrow down the location?" David asked.
"Short of getting Agent Harding killed? No...because if Mendoza is funding her, then it's too dangerous to send her in closer. But the good news is that Goldie's ratings are abysmal, especially compared to Eva's. That won't make him happy," Patricia replied.
"Do you think he'll stop funding her?" Snow asked.
"He'll threaten to...unless she finds a way to get more traffic to her trash broadcast. Whether she will or not remains to be seen. However, I think I know of a way to combat her that will probably get her to act more erratic or even slip up," Patricia replied.
"How?" David asked. She looked at Eva.
"To your credit, because you're a person of such integrity, you have yet to call her out on your broadcast. You completely ignore her, which has been effective. But now that she has gone after your family so viciously, especially your parents, I think it might be time to speak out against her," she replied.
"Now that she's gone after your siblings, especially your brother, who's still a minor, I think you can call her out and still maintain the moral high ground, so to speak," she added.
"Consider it done...I have no problem going after her and I can do it without sounding petty like her," Eva said.
"Good...because I think her purpose of going after you kids is to get a reaction from you two," Patricia replied. David sighed.
"Probably...even if we did know where she was and went barreling there, she'd spin it as aggression on our part," he said.
"Which is why this is better. This is definitely a war...but an information war and Eva is winning it against her. Ten fold," Patricia replied. Snow smiled.
"That's because Goldie is a two bit hack and Grimm's blog is abhorrent with stories that I'm sure only sadists want to read. And our baby, like all our babies, is incredibly talented," she said, as she hugged her daughter.
"She's right," David agreed, as he hugged her too.
"Thanks Mom and Dad, but I better go or we'll be late," she said to Paul. They paid their check and all parted ways for the day for their respective jobs.
~*~
Henry sat in his study, responding to some of his correspondence in New York and browsing what they had sent him. Apparently, they wanted a rebuttal to Grimm's latest blog posts, which were more twisted stories on classic characters and honestly, it was hard for him to read these scenarios when he knew Grimm would love to make his versions reality for many of the people he loved.
"Hey...you look like you could use this," Ella said, as she brought him a cocoa with cinnamon.
"Thanks...you have no idea," he said, as he took a sip.
"Ugh…I can't believe Grimm's grisly blog of horrors has that many hits," she mentioned, as she looked at the page.
"Me either...though in terms of the Internet, that's a pretty low to median amount of people," he reasoned.
"Still too many likes for my taste," she said. He smiled.
"Me too...but I think there's a reason he has no dislike button. I'm positive the dislikes would outweigh the likes," he mentioned.
"Very true...is this some of the same stuff in those manuscripts that we burned?" she asked.
"Probably...it doesn't surprise me that he digitally backed up the hard copies. Still creepy to think that he could have made all this reality if he had gotten blood from my grandparents and used it as ink," he shuddered.
"He can never get that now...and you're a much better writer than him. He's arrogant to think that he has any talent," she said.
"It's his family name...he thinks he's entitled to be the official story and some would consider him to be more official than me. A lot of movies and other stories have been based on the work of a Grimm," he reminded her.
"Mm...maybe, but you were chosen by Merlin and that makes you the official author and the best," she said, as she kissed him tenderly.
"Thanks," he said, with a smile.
"Come on...take a break. Let's go get lunch," she suggested.
"That sounds like a wonderful idea...I'm starved," he agreed, as he closed his laptop for now and they went to lunch. He would finish his rebuttal later. They exited the house and got a text on his phone.
"Who's it from?" she asked.
"Eva...she wants me to come on her next broadcast," he said.
"I guess she's going after Goldie and Grimm," he added.
"Well, it's about time after everything they've said about this family," Ella replied.
"I'm not surprised by the timing. They went after Mom and Bobby hard in their last one. If my grandparents knew where they were...they'd be toast right about now," Henry said.
"Which is probably exactly what they wanted and would have painted them as violent. This is a much better way to fight them," she reasoned.
"Agreed...though I can't say that none of us wouldn't enjoy seeing your Grams put an arrow in that blonde twat waffle," she added, making him laugh out loud.
"Yeah…I think we'd all enjoy that. But we can settle for completely discrediting her on Eva's podcast, which does bonkers numbers compared to Goldie's," he said. She smiled and nodded, as they drove to Granny's for lunch.
